Speaker 1 (00:00):
I was thinking about something on my way in.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
We don't have to do an additional show on Monday
before the game, and that's a good thing.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
One less day for the Texans Bills game we do.
Uh yeah, but that's a different matchup. That'll be next
Sunday at two o'clock.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
I heard Matt say this on the air, so I
feel comfortable sharing what he said off the air. He's
so previewed out and that's where I'm at right now.
That's where I'm at. I know you're nice, not at all.
There's so much we haven't even gotten into. Gonna hear
from Will Anderson a little bit today.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
I love him. Was over there again today, the usual
Friday practice inside the stadium, a little bit lighter, try
to get a handle on what we could from an
injury standpoint. I think we already knew what we were
gonna see, and so I'll share that with you. But
there are a lot of things that will matter in
this game that we have not yet discussed. A third
game of the weekend. The opponent for the winner of
this game will be known. The opponent for the winner
(00:54):
of the late game on Sunday will also be known.
We got two games tomorrow. I got two games on Sunday.
We got Monday night's National championship game, the last game
of the college football season. All this Texan stuff has
kind of prevented us from talking at all about college football.
We don't need to talk about the Indiana Miami game
today either. We'll get to that on Monday. But the
(01:14):
transfer portal, everything else going on in college sports. Honestly,
with the ruling on are the portal for college basketball
coming up? Another former Astro became an even bigger millionaire
than he was before, coming to an agreement with the
Los Angeles Dodgers. Oh yeah, they continue to ruin baseball.
It's great. The Astros have their favorite sixty three players
(01:38):
for the upcoming season ready to go for February spring training.
They announced their spring training roster, preliminary spring training roster
coming up on FanFest a week out. I mean, there
is all sorts of excellence to discuss, and for the
second day in a row, we're leading you into Rockets basketball.
A little bit of a gap between our program and
tip off tonight, roughly a three hour gap with it's
(02:00):
the late tip second game of a national doubleheader. Good
to get back on the court as per usual. If
last game's performance isn't all that pleasing, the last quarter
of last games stood out, and let's not act like
they shot the ball well for three quarters and then
fell off. They couldn't make a basket in the fourth quarter.
They couldn't stop the other team for making baskets. So
(02:20):
a two point deficit was a twenty point loss to
the Oklahoma City thunder Minnesota in town tonight. Emay Dooka
was on the Show or on The Matt Thomas Show
with Ross earlier today, so we will share with you
some of his thoughts leading out of last night's game.
Leading into tonight's game, he shed some light on their
own roster, which should have Dorian Finney Smith back. He
(02:41):
is not even on the injury report, and he May
said that he will play tonight. Stephen Adams and Tarry
Eason will get you updated on where things stand with
each of them. I'll tell you right now. Ethan's status
on the injury report is questionable, and e May sounded
positive about his chances of returning tonight. And if it's
not tonight, it probably would on Sunday. So we'll get
(03:01):
into all those things Obviously, there's a lot of football
to talk about. We've barely talked at all about the
three other games, so that will be a part of
our discussion today. Sam Darnold's situation, obviously, is something of
great significance going into one of those two NFC games.
Matchups are the same, with each of the three wild
cards going the same the same three seeds won. They're
(03:21):
at three games for thirty's signature segment is our stone
called locks. So I have some interesting things there for you,
but can't wait to get this started and here we
are to do it.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
Well, you know you mentioned Will Anderson at the very
beginning there, and I don't think I mentioned this when
we were talking the other day about I had had
some technical issues at the house, so I was watching
the game in a different room than I normally do.
I know all of you and especially WEX will be
very happy to know that those have since been remedied
and now I can go back to watching games the
(03:54):
way I like to.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
Yeah, I actually had bigger problems right watching the game
at home and got a couple of phone calls from
people I knew were watching the game and wanted to
talk about the game. So before words could be uttered,
I said, what, you're watching the game? What's it said
on the clock when there's five oh two left in
the quarter. Well, don't tell me about it because I'm
at five forty nine, so please do not tell me.
I send you a text during this little run.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
You've you've had some service issues from your provider, is
what you're talking about.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
Yeah, can always get it via a streaming portion of
the provider, but obviously I'm nowhere near live. Well, it's
just like the iHeart app.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
If you're listening to us on it, which we highly
recommend because it's free to download. By the way, it's
gonna sound like you're here in the studio with us
qualities it's, but it's gonna be a little bit behind.
It's gonna be like, what is it like twelve seconds.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Live sports talk shows versus live athletic events. They're a
little bit different. Isn't it funny? I think it'll be
just fine listening to us thirty seconds after we say
the dumb things that we say, Yeah, exactly all of them.
Isn't it funny?
Speaker 2 (04:53):
That's the one thing you can't DVR and watch, at
least I can't sports you.
Speaker 1 (04:59):
I mean, I know a lot of people, especially in radio,
that would do that based on the time of their
their ship part. Yeah, oh my god, I gotta be
on here at six am. Forget about staying up till
nine to forty five for the end of a seven
o'clock Rockets game. But that's the thing.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Even if I wanted to crazy to like not watch
the Astros West Coast game against the Dodgers, it's a
big matchup, right Ooh, Kyle Tucker in a Dodgers uniform.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
We gotta see this.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
And then I decide I'll just watch it the next
morning before I do the morning drive show.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
Because now I'm let everybody out there raise your hands,
how many of you think I can go to bed
without knowing if the Houston Sports team that played that
day one.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
There's no chance, no chance, There's no chance, because I
feel like I would lay my head down and not
be able to go to sleep until I knew what
was happening, and everything that happened, including the final score, Well,
I might as well just stay up and watch it.
So I choose to just not sleep and be awful
the next day because I can catch up on it later.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
But I'll Tucker at Dyke and Park will take place
in May early May, first week a man.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
Did they actually get three games with them this time
instead of just two like normal? Do you realize that
every time they played the Dodgers either there or here
over the last few.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
Seasons it was only two games two total? Like last year.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
They played them fourth of July weekend in LA and
it was a three game series. That was the first
time in forever I could remember that it was more
than two games. When Joe Kelly did his stupid booboo
face thing that they worship him for now because they're losers.
He did that here during a two game series in
front of the Placards during COVID.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
It was just a three game series last year when
Lance helped him open the door to an eighteen to
one thrashing and they subsequent sweep.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
That's what I'm saying. Last year was the first year
I remember it being more than two. When they went there.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
Was the the Rockies, they we'd go two and two with,
well when that is another one.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
But when we went there and Carlos Carea hit the
home run off of Joe Kelly in a loss that
was also a two game series recalls.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
The scheduling for Major League Baseball has changed since then.
That's true. I didn't think about that last team. You're
round fifty two games inside the division.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
But that's weird because it feels like you would I don't.
If you're trying to fit every team in Major League
Baseball on the calendar, I would think there would be
more two game series. But hey, I'm fine with it.
You don't a two game series like if you split, well,
did it really happen? Well, as I would say, I don't.
(07:25):
It's silly, like did you win that series? Did you
lose that series? Yes, there's one of the one hundred and
sixty two. That's the one series they'll have against them.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
The reporting that's been done the last several years, with
the popularity of deferrals, I do find it comical. I
think you're kind of stuck in between. And I don't
blame the reporter. I actually responded to one of them
last night that was reporting the Tucker deal and said,
I'm guilty of it too. We're all guilty of it.
The deal that he signed. He can sign a new
(07:53):
deal after four years. You can sign with anybody who
wants after four years, and again they're opt out, so
we could actually do it before. Then understand reporting this
is a four year deal, but he's not being paid
by the Dodgers for only four years. He's being paid
by the Dodgers for many more years. I know where
it comes from. Upset. Well, I just want to point
out the it's not hypocritical, it's just not real accurate.
(08:15):
It's accurate for how long. It's like Bregman's a little
bit easier because there aren't any opt outs. He's obligated
to play there. Shoho Tani, same thing. He's obligated to
play there for ten years. But they're not paying him
seven hundred million in ten years. They're paying him basically
nothing in ten years. Then ten years after that. If
show he is still playing baseball in his society, he
(08:36):
wants to play for another major league outfit, he'll be
paid by that team and the Dodgers while he's doing so.
So the it throws everybody, Oh my god, they're paying
him seventy million a year. No they're not. Oh my god,
they're playing Kyle Tucker sixty million a year. No they're not.
Oh my god, they're playing Alex Bregman one hundred and
seventy five million over five years. No, they are not.
It's not calculated that way, doesn't hit the CBT calculations
(08:59):
that way. It's not even close in some of these situations.
So there is a huge, clear, huge benefit for the
teams few teams that are doing it because why they're
not deferring it because oh, well, I don't know if
we can afford to pay you this much now but
probably in a few years has nothing to do with that.
It has everything to do with, well, if we have
all this deferred money out there, we'll look at our
(09:21):
new CBT calculations. They've got like ten guys getting deferred
money in LA. So their amount of money they're actually
paying in twenty twenty six, as the CBT calculates, it
isn't seventy million for him and thirty million for glassnow
and forty million for Bets. It's nowhere near any of that. So, yes,
there is an enormous year to year benefit on it
if you can't afford it and you have the best
(09:43):
TV deal in Major League Baseball, which they do. A
couple other contracts were handed out today around Major League
Baseball on the National League side, so we'll share those
with you. Mentioned a bunch of good stuff from inside
the Texans some of the matchups we probably haven't discussed
as much. Why are coaches considered good coaches? And it's
a very simple process to get to that point. We're
going to probably see one Texans coach get interviewed on
(10:06):
the circuit whenever the opportunity presents, and coaches that are
still coaching are available to that, but it's a little
bit more difficult to make that happen. Rams coaches apparently
did their visits, their interviews. I guess I should say
today just a little bit out from their last potentially
last game of the season or next game of the season,
(10:27):
but that's just the way it goes in the NFL.
So looking forward to talking a little bit more about
the other three games, but most specifically about the next
opponent in the Texans way to do something they've never
done before. We're now right on the edge of their
latest opportunity, the seventh opportunity in franchise history, but as
it relates to this team, the third consecutive opportunity to
(10:48):
advance past the final four in the AFC, to advance
past the divisional round, to play a game in the
championship round, to play for the AFC title, the American
Football Conference Ultimate Prize. They have not yet done that
in franchise history.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
Playing for the ultimate prize, the Lombardi Trophy, that's what
Bill Walton was almost not yet.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
I believe they'd be playing for the Hunt Trophy in
that instance of the Hunt Family. Yes, they of the
Kansas City Ownership p Trophy.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
Moniker, that's the that's the Kansasity Chiefs, right, Yes, Gracie,
great kid.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
I mean, we'd like to welcome the Hunt family representative
on stage to present the trophy. I mean, come on,
has to be her. I think she should wear a
trench coat. It's Clark. He's not as attractive. All right.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
We will yeah, a lot, a lot to get to
our last show before Texans Patriots part whatever.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
This is in the postseason? What is this? One? Heart one?
Speaker 3 (11:44):
No?
Speaker 2 (11:45):
They've how many times are these two franchises? I feel
I thought there was three going into this, but I
guess there isn't. There's just a they've played in the
divisional round twice. I could have sworn there was three.
All right, I'll take it, all right, when we come back,
we will to continue to discuss, well, one of the
more pressing topics. If you want to get all up
in arms about, you know, how a certain entity is
(12:09):
ruining professional sports, I'll explain.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
Don't worry. It's next.
Speaker 2 (12:15):
So I was talking with someone last night about this
brand spanking new contract that Kyle Tucker just got from
the LA Dodgers. You know, the Dodgers, the team that
the Astros beat in twenty seventeen, and they haven't stopped
whining about it since. Not to mention with Bob Nightingale's
(12:37):
article yesterday, just churning it all up again, it was
top of mind. The funny thing about him going there,
wouldn't he be like the least hurtful for this fan base.
He has no connection, he wasn't on the major league roster.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
Then.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
In fact, I think Preston had more to do with
the Major League Astros roster in twenty seventeen than Kyle.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
I think a low blow. I think it was pretty equal. None.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
Yeah, but I like Kyle Tucker going there.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
I mean, you're probably right in that theory. They're probably
not going to sign AJ Reid or Colin Moran or
m Man I guess they could sign Mike Fires if
they want. They had the chance to do the funniest thing.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
I just feel like I'm more upset about the contract itself.
They could have signed anybody to this contract, and I
would be pissed off the way I am right now.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
I could be mistaken, but I think this is accurate.
I think the first twenty seventeen astro to play for
the Dodgers after that was Tyler White.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
Didn't who was the uh who was the outfielder they
signed that played for the Yankees afterward?
Speaker 1 (13:57):
Didn't he play for the Dodgers for a spell?
Speaker 2 (14:00):
Not not the one you're thinking of that just helped
them win the World Series? I'm talking about like Cameron Mabon,
Cameron Mayben, That's exactly who I was thinking of.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
Didn't he play for the Dodgers or Am I crazy?
I don't think he donned Dodger blue. He was definitely
a Yankee afterwards, solebase in the World Series. He did
do that, tell you that much. Jose Siri probably did too.
Cameron maybin On his only stop in LA was right
before Houston as an angel.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
Oh okay, I screwed that up. But anyways, all of
this is to say, and you talked about this little bit.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
Four years, two hundred and forty million is the announcement
made or the reporting made last night. But the necessary
social media aspects of acknowledgment are there, especially from Kyle,
so he'll be a Dodger and looks like it's about
fifty seven million present value deal with thirty million in deferrals.
So four years fifty seven million, four years sixty million.
(14:52):
However you want to present it, it is the most
any any player has gotten. It's not show hey, and
again it's all semantics on how you want to refer
and said, seventy seven hundred million over ten years, like
I explained to the opening second bottom line, Kyle turned
out to be the high ticket item as many expected
this offseason. Did not get the super long term deal
(15:13):
that many believed he had. His agents were looking for
has opt outs along with deferrals in this deal, so
there is an opportunity for him to move forward. But
the point is the team that what did what did
the Dodgers do last year? They won it all? Right?
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
I wasn't watching they did win it all I was watching.
Don't work it was a great series.
Speaker 1 (15:33):
It took him until the seventh game and late in
the seventh game to make it all happen. It was.
It was fantastic, hotly contested. It was extremely close. Hard
to imagine a series being much closer. So why wouldn't
you say, well, it was so close last year, we
needed to we know how to get better. So that's
(15:53):
what it has That's what the Blue Jays have been doing.
Why not the two teams that were standing at the
end have arguably done as much as any team to
try to get better this offseason. But the point of
it all is that this is now, Like I said,
I think it's number ten. It's either nine, ten or
eleven players that the Dodgers are paying enormous salaries to
begin with, all eight figure guys fifteen, eighteen, nineteen million plus,
(16:17):
but they all have deferrals in their contracts.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
And therein lies the rub. As they say, I realized
that the by the letter of the law. And this
goes back to the day after Otani signed his massive deal,
we were saying the same stuff, but I realized that
the Dodgers are not doing anything that is this is
(16:41):
exactly like what happened when Hillary and Donald were debating and.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
She was in the white suit. Yes, okay, that's all.
I remember the one where he was where he ended
the I remember they were very, very nice to each
other during.
Speaker 2 (16:56):
The polite until he just absolutely Lee just buried her
by saying.
Speaker 1 (17:02):
Because you'd be in jail.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
But before that, she was talking about how you know
he gets all these tax cuts and she was acting
like he wouldn't admit to it.
Speaker 1 (17:13):
And he goes, of course I do, and you know
who else does? All of her donors and Jahn We
got to ask our listeners would I ever take I wouldn't.
I mean, even hearing you talk about the what it
made you think of for the comparisons Rish, My mind
is blown.
Speaker 2 (17:27):
But it's the same principle though, in all honesty, yeah,
jokes aside, it's the same thing. They're just taking advantage
of the system that's there for anybody to use.
Speaker 1 (17:36):
Yeah, we talked about it. You mentioned on social media yesterday.
I think a lot of other people that love the
sport of baseball did the same thing. It's not really
the Dodgers that are making this happen, but they're opening
everybody's eyes to what's coming in twenty twenty seven. It
is not even remotely close to a level playing field.
There's only so much you can do to make it
that way because it's not like the NFL, which is
super easy to make it a level playing field, and
(17:58):
having a salary cap even with void years, which are
just like deferrals in the In the Major League Baseball
it's it's a level playing field. The NBA has penalties
associated with their cap and the tax threshold this and
how it's calculated for that, and the kitchen aprons we
always talk about with the NBA, But the Major League
(18:22):
Baseball situation is I keep hearing, well, now this might
persuade more. We don't have the money owners and they're
spending more in luxury tax penalties or in penalties, then
we're spending at all on our payroll. It's still not
going to make them more competitive. It might not Golden
(18:42):
State Warriors, just they're spending whatever amount of money on
their payroll and then multiply that by two, and that's
what they paid multiple seasons for to spend the money
they were allowed to spend under the rules.
Speaker 2 (18:54):
You just get hit with all these penalties they're paying
for their time which is long over. No problem.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
Keep paying the exorbitant several hundred thousand or several hundred
million over what the cap is, because those are the
penalties for it, and that's what even still, I think
we're still going to be fighting an uphill battle against.
But how many teams, there's thirty teams in Major League Baseball,
how many of their fan bases believe they have a
(19:19):
chance to win or for ever it should be pure
than that. I'll give you a third, roughly of the league.
I'll give you ten teams know that they're going into
this season and probably in the next several seasons without
any chance to win it all. It's probably another five
to eight teams that know it's very, very difficult. I'll
give everybody this little nugget every time. Because Milwaukee and Cleveland,
(19:42):
these teams don't spend a lot of money, you know,
Cincinnati many years, somebody has to win these divisions that
New York and La aren't in. They're only in a
couple of the divisions.
Speaker 2 (19:50):
I wish the Astros would move right on over to
the Al Central, not the least of which is because
geographically it makes more sense for them and the Rangers
to not be playing a third of their games on
the West Coast.
Speaker 1 (20:02):
From a from a spending standpoint, that would help a touch.
But they spend more money that they are the Yankees
and Dodgers on a much lower scale of their division.
They spend better than them.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
I mean they had to spend some of the money
because they had to pay some of the guys before
they would leave, Like they paid Alex Bregman.
Speaker 1 (20:21):
People forget No, they didn't, they did. They gave him
the lame internal one hundred million dollar over six years,
kept him here longer than it would have been. Clearly, Yeah,
they've handed They did the same thing with Jordan, They've
done it with Lance, they did it with they did
it without first time. Yeah, I mean, it's just it's
such a small scale in comparison to that. The second contract,
the one that's more recent, the one that al two
(20:43):
Bea is playing under, that's more legitimate. You gave him,
you know, one hundred and twenty five million over five years.
That's the same deal George Springer got just one less
year to leave. Springer, Cole Correa, Bregman, Tucker and I
posted all of their numbers. It's incredible how much money
these guys have made and leaving Houston, money that this
(21:05):
team and this owner never would have likely been inclined
to spend, even though they negotiated with basically all of
them to pretty late stages, except for well, I shouldn't
say all of them, let me take it back. They
negotiated with Bregman, and they negotiated with Korea. There were
no real negotiations with Cole. They knew he was leaving.
They had many years to negotiate with Springer and never
(21:26):
really made any headway with that, and then they moved
on from Kyle Tucker, which at this point in time,
and I think even the day that Dana Brown and
the Astros made it happen, we knew it was a
good idea. The Cubs acquired him from the Astros, giving
them three players in return, and they have nothing to
show for it now because they took a chance, and
it's a chance the Astros were not willing to take,
(21:48):
especially since the Cubs I think, really believe there's a
chance they could sign up. The Astros knew he was
gone after this year no matter what, so they traded
him early. And this is what's been honest for them.
This is more of a maybe this is the final straw.
I don't know if it is or not, but major
League Baseball it's just too imbalanced.
Speaker 2 (22:06):
No, and I again I want to I'm gonna move
this into Best of X not like this topic. The
way we're talking about it, like literally, the way people
were reacting to this thing last night was just such.
It provided such great content because there's really basically two
sides of this Dodger fans and everyone else. I mean,
that's really what it boils down to, because they're the
(22:28):
only team doing it to this extent, they're only team
doing it period.
Speaker 1 (22:32):
I'll be interested to see if they you know, they
didn't win one hundred and fifteen games. They didn't win
one hundred games last year, that's correct. They did not
steam roll their way through the playoffs, and they certainly
didn't do that in the World Series.
Speaker 2 (22:43):
If you're planning on three peating because you've picked up
a former astro, that's just funny to me.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
I mean, he's pretty good a baseball. Well yeah, but
we're gonna takeo. They actually they picked up a former cup.
Speaker 2 (22:53):
Oh that's right by way of the astro. All right, Yeah,
we'll get to the Best of XS next. It's our
signature segment every single day at too and it will
be very The Dodgers are ruining baseball intensive.
Speaker 1 (23:06):
The eight as we dive into our best of X
social media segment here each and every weekd afternoon at
two thirty, I will at least initially sideswipe that topic
to let you know it is official.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
Now.
Speaker 1 (23:19):
The Texans injury report has been released. Nico Collins and
concussion protocol is out for their game against the Patriots.
Same for Justin Watson for the same reason. The only
other player that was listed on this week's injury report
that is not one hundred percent ago is Trent Brown.
He's still listed as questionable. He and Denico Audry were
at practice this morning. When I was out there was
(23:41):
actually able to see both of them again briefly. I
would suspect that there maybe a small chance that Chuck
Trent Brown is not going to play, And if he's
not going to play, I would hope that he is
not active either and they could utilize the spot for
someone who's healthy. But I haven't been given any indication
other than them probably sticking with the rules of reporting.
(24:04):
I think that's the main reason he's listed as questionable.
Dniico Autry. While he was limited today in his only
practice of the week, he has no injury designation. He
should be ready to take his full allotment of reps
along the Texans defensive line. Also means jar Jordan again,
as we expected, has no injury designation. So I would
imagine if they'd like to have three talented running backs
(24:25):
up for this game against the Patriots, or four with
dari who will also be active. That now the opportunities
right in front of.
Speaker 2 (24:32):
I saw some of the responses to one of your
other tweets about the strength of the.
Speaker 1 (24:38):
It wasn't the strength of skill.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
What was the You had a list of all of
the Patriots games this season, and I can't remember what
the gist of it was because I.
Speaker 1 (24:46):
Just put Drake May's passer rating. Just put them all
in order, from the best passer rating game of his
season all the way through the worst, just in order
of his eighteen games. The eleven games that sit at
the top of the list were all games against teams
that had losing records, every single one of them, but
they were all awesome. Then you still have passer rating
games of one hundred plus in that second Gradatriots fans
(25:08):
didn't like that though, well. I was trying to present
it in a matter of fact kind of way, and
some of it's also obvious, which people had issue with
as we slide this into best of X. Yeah, his
passer rating against the four playoff teams you mentioned is
still better than CJ's over his whole season. I know
Drake May was good this year. I'm not trying to
tell you he stinks and can't play against playoff teams.
(25:31):
The numbers are right there for you. I'm just telling
you when they were supposed to destroy teams and he
was supposed to have little trouble against the defenses he
was facing, that's exactly what happened. They crushed them. He
had great days offensively. When they played better teams, it
wasn't quite as good for him. It still was at
a level that was perfectly normal for a good quarterback.
(25:53):
All quarterbacks are going to look like. Neither of those
had great seasons, otherwise their season would be even better.
He'd had a passer rating of one to twenty five
instead of one thirteen.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
Neither of those two scenarios is what I think is
going to happen on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (26:05):
We'll get into that.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
He's gonna get his ass kicked pretty unlikely, but we'll
see two players, by the way, on the Patriots are
listed as questionable.
Speaker 1 (26:12):
Everybody else is good to go. Harold Landry is of
great consequence though that would be a pretty talented player
had had quite the impact there in New England that
maybe he had in Tennessee with coach Rabel the first time.
But his knee injury has him listed questionable. And Terrell
Jennings has been a concussion protocol throughout the week. I
think because of that is also listed questionable, but would
play a very small role in the game. If how
(26:34):
the running backs in front of him did not don't
get hurt, He's probably not gonna have a role. Christian
Gonzalez no injury designation. He will play on Sunday against
the Texans. Yeah, and he is outstanding. Yeah, he's great.
I'm really scared of him. How are you going to
acknowledge excellence without saying you're scared? I don't think he's excellent.
Speaker 2 (26:51):
I how these New England showerhead idiots can watch that
game against the Bills and really the last year's game
again the Bills as well, and see what the Texans
do to a prolific passer who has wheels and not
think that they're going to have to make some adjustments
with their second year boy Wonder is laughable to me.
(27:13):
And the fact that they're so arrogant about it is
why I say things like what I just said about Gonzales.
Why should I be reasonable? They aren't.
Speaker 1 (27:21):
What do you think about how the team the Texans
played in the Divisional round during CJ's rookie season, You
feel like it was the same sentiment, just the reverse.
Oh we're so afraid of this boy wonder CJ. Stroud.
He had the best rookie season of all time and
they just rolled through Cleveland and he was awesome. So
what we're going to destroy him? The Ravens essentially in
(27:44):
the Baltimore Fans, which they did. They won thirty four
to ten, and the Texans did not score in the
second half.
Speaker 2 (27:52):
I mean, to me, that was such a crazy game
because at halftime it was still anybody's game.
Speaker 1 (27:59):
Absolutely.
Speaker 2 (27:59):
It wasn't like from the jump the Texans were just outclassed, No,
not at all. They made some mistakes he made some
mistakes specifically talking about CJ. But I guess just the
fact that they're not even allowing for it's it's almost
like they're trying to say what a lot of us
are saying about him as defense is smoking mirrors. I mean,
(28:22):
I know that's not true and sounds ridiculous, but that's
how they're coming off to me.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
Well, it's Drake May. He can't they can't do anything
against Drake May. He gets guys, this guy walks on water.
It's funny that his worst game of the year. Funny
however you want to use that was against the team
money Haha. It's not even a good defense. It happened
against Buffalo though, the second game of their season, the
one that they lost. He just wasn't very good. And
I don't really think it's because Buffalo had more than
they could handle. They just played poorly against a good team,
(28:48):
good team. Not a great defense. Probably a better defense
than most people think, but not anything like even the
Chargers defense a week ago. Certainly not anything like the
Texans defense this week. But yes, it got a lot
of people saying, but CJ this or his numbers in
the bad games are still great. Bottom line is they
played just a couple of games against really good defenses,
(29:09):
and now they're gonna have back to back games against
pretty good defense. The Chargers are, at worst, you have
to call them a top ten defense. I think they
were probably in the top six, and the Texans are
the top one of one or of thirty two. They
are the best defense that the Patriots will have faced,
and anybody who faces them, it's the best defense they
face because they're the best defense in the NFL. So
the challenge rises, the attempt to be great is harder.
(29:32):
And he wasn't great last week. He was good enough
to win. They still put up thirteen more points than
their opponent. CJ. Stroud was definitely not great last week either,
for a number of different reasons, and they still outscored.
He also made some really good plays. Having said that,
right and May made several good plays also, especially as
touchdown passed to Hunter Henry was outstanding, just like CJ's
(29:55):
deep downfield pass to Kirk. Texans outscored them without their
defense seventeen to six. And one more thing about what
CJ did against Pittsburgh. Yeah, there were a lot of
yak yards to be had there but you can't just say, oh,
that was all the receiver, because he's putting that receiver
in the position to get those yards after the catch. Honestly,
(30:17):
especially with Kirk's down the right sideline, look at those
two catches. I mean Kirk basically ran into the ground
after both of them, didn't he He stumbled over his
own He actually wasn't even tackled until he got up,
but he fell after the catch.
Speaker 2 (30:31):
I'm thinking of the one where he caught it coming
across from left to right and then went up the
right sideline for another earth.
Speaker 1 (30:39):
He just wasn't able to clip the turn because of
where he caught it. He didn't make a mistake, but
there were more yards to be gained had he not been.
He ran out of bounce. There's nowhere else he couldn't
have turned it off. I think there's too much.
Speaker 2 (30:51):
And again I'm not defending or trying to downplay anything
negative about what CJ did the other night as far
as the bad stuff goes. But I think there's far
too many people that are just like you can't read
defenses like that's the.
Speaker 1 (31:04):
Stud Do you know how dumb you sound. I don't.
Speaker 2 (31:07):
I don't think like has he had difficulty uh in
certain stretches or even certain individual plays during a game. Well, yeah,
every quarterback has that happened to them. But the people
to me, and again this is just my read on
some of the things I see and read. I think
too many people are just like almost just disregarding him,
(31:28):
like they're just they're winning in spite of him, And
I just think you're you can do that to your
own peril.
Speaker 1 (31:33):
Heading into Sundays. Get Monday Night's game last week? Simple question,
I think it's a simple answer. Who did you think
the better quarterback was? CJ?
Speaker 2 (31:42):
Stroud at the game? You think the better quarterback is? Oh,
Drake May has had a better season.
Speaker 1 (31:51):
Well, there is to it. It's okay to get the game. No,
it's okay to believe in all this though, It's okay
to get behind the game.
Speaker 2 (31:57):
Doesn't question, Well, look at your think that I was
insulting Aaron Rodgers' legacy. Let's take your answer. You weren't
sure who to say, and the Texans cleaned their clocks.
They beat the heck out of them.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
Aaron Rodgers had a bad day, their performances were they
were both bad. Maybe your answer isn't hard to believe
at all. But I think most people, even this season,
just this season, which is all that really matters. I
think people would would say CJ had a better season.
Probably not by a lot, but you got to pick somebody.
I'll tell you something. When we come back Vera, they
(32:28):
had a significantly better season, granted against the teams he
had to face. But as I pointed out and many
did on social media, to me, just take the games
he played against better teams. He still had a very
good season, and arguably better than CJ's. Yeah, and that's fine.
Speaker 2 (32:45):
And in this vein when we come back, I was
having an exchange with a member of the New England
media and he's just asking me and our mutual acquaintance
and Shaughnessy, No, No, The next time I talked to Dan,
shaughnesty will be right around.
Speaker 1 (33:00):
Never.
Speaker 2 (33:01):
I can't stand that guy is He's gonna still write it.
I guarantee you he's cooking it up right now.
Speaker 1 (33:06):
He's the type of guy basically, I mean, he just
rolls in for for these games, you know, I've especially
games against Houston.
Speaker 2 (33:14):
Yeah, and when we come back, I'll tell you the
question I was asking I'll read you exactly what I
texted back as my response. In fact, i'll tell you
what all three of us said, just because it's kind
of I think we all wound up on the same
page at the end of the day. We just got
there different ways. And I think that's what's going to
happen on Sunday. I'll explain when we return. Team Sports
Talk seven to ninety will start the simulcast over on
(33:36):
Space City Home Network coming up at the top of
the hour. So last night, guy I used to work
with at Channel two reached out to me and this
was actually uh during the Rockets game, so I was
doing a little bit of multitasking.
Speaker 1 (33:51):
But he had a.
Speaker 2 (33:53):
It was a friend of his in the media and
they were looking for a hit. But it wasn't going
to work out because my schedule. But he said, while
I have you guys predictions for Sunday, Texans pull it off.
And again, this guy is a he's a TV guy
from the New England Area's from Boston or that's where
(34:13):
he's based.
Speaker 1 (34:14):
I should say, so, I.
Speaker 2 (34:17):
Said, my friend from Channel two said, I'd like to
think the Texans pull off a close one. I think
the two teams are really evenly matched. Drake has been good,
but mostly against bad teams. Right, CJ is the wild card.
If he cannot be awful, Texans defense can keep them
in it. But that's a big if. I'll go Texans
(34:38):
sixteen Pats thirteen, and I said, if the Texans defense
does what it normally does and CJ plays twenty five
percent better than he did on Monday night, I think
Texans squeak it out. Does that sound fair? And the
guy from Boston ends up saying very fair. If Drake
may can stay clean and not turn it over, I
think he and McDaniels can make the adjustments to squeak
(34:58):
one out. But that's a tall task, gonna be a
fun one, sou and he goes we can all agree
nobody's scoring more than twenty points. That's what it came
down to at the end. So it sounds like the
Boston guy thinks his team is going to squeak it
out and the two Houston guys think their team's gonna
squeak it out. And at the end of the day,
in a game in which the over under is what
forty five and a half for this one lower, is
(35:21):
it really yes, forty three and a half.
Speaker 1 (35:24):
It's not below forty, Dad, It's correct, but you've given
yourself a lot of wiggle room to get there. Hold on,
I'm looking it up right now. Forty and a half.
Speaker 2 (35:32):
Oh, I thought it was at forty two for some reason.
I'm still taking the over. Is that crazy?
Speaker 4 (35:39):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (35:40):
No, not crazy. We'll have our stone cold locks for you.
And the Texans game, obviously is a must. The national
title game pick is a must in any three other
elements of the five games to be played this weekend.
Speaker 2 (35:51):
Again, you can choose from. It doesn't matter how the
points get put on the board. And you know, fourteen
of them got put up by the defense this last week,
so I just just to get to thirty six, No,
thirty thirteen of them thirty two six.
Speaker 1 (36:07):
Oh, you're talking about total. I thought you're talking.
Speaker 2 (36:08):
About just the Texans, that's what you're talking about.
Speaker 1 (36:13):
I just, you know, looking at this game.
Speaker 2 (36:16):
And I said the twenty five percent part, because that's
that was basically a reference to what you and I
were talking about on the show, and it was either
yesterday the day before. I think twenty five percent better
play from CJ. Shroud is almost a given at this point,
I don't think. And the reason I say that, I
don't think the Patriots pass rush upfront is as good
(36:38):
as the Steelers provided. And most of his mistakes were
self inflicted, definitely the fumbles, and it wasn't like they were.
Speaker 1 (36:48):
He's just got to be better. The snaps that were
fumbles is one thing, But the fumbled plays that were
they were knocked out of his hand by the defense. Yeah. Well,
I'm talking about the snaps right when I say that.
But if he allows himself to climb in the pocket
into more traffic, if he tries to make plays with
that many hands around him like he did against Pittsburgh,
he's liable to do the very same thing.
Speaker 2 (37:08):
Hadn't lost the fumble all season doesn't mean he didn't fumble.
Speaker 1 (37:12):
He barely fumble lost all season though, right, It doesn't
mean there were zero I believe there were reeds.
Speaker 2 (37:17):
To me, that's a sample size. That's not a few games.
That's not a playoff game. That's not what you think
is going to happen in this playoff game. That's a
whole season's worth in which you clearly think he is
the dregs of society at the quarterback position. Boston fan,
the way you're talking about him, well, this because they
watched this game. Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 1 (37:36):
But also keep in mind the same thing we say
about Drake may Well, he didn't fumble the ball against
anybody else all year in games that had a lot
less on the line. Let me put it this way
against lesser teams too.
Speaker 2 (37:47):
If Drake may is what New England fans think he
is or are acting like he is, then Vegas does
not make this as close of a game as it has.
Speaker 1 (37:55):
Yeah, that's the bottom line with all of it. These teams,
there's not a lot of separation. I don't expect to
be one sided either way. I don't think New England
is going to be playing like that against Texan. I
don't think the Text is going to be playing like
that against them. I think both teams if that starts
to present, Texans have gone up fourteen to nothing, the
Patriots have gone up fourteen to nothing. The other team
is good enough to not walk off the field losing
(38:17):
a thirty four to seven contest. They're good enough to
make an adjustment to realize there's still thirty five minutes,
forty five minutes of football. Whatever the number is and
that's usually what you get here, and it's honestly, it's
what we got all weekend until the Texans played, and
even the Texans game was seven to six in the
fourth quarter, the very earlyast ages of the fourth quarter,
(38:41):
I mean, the widest margin of victory outside of that
was what the Patriots did. And the Patriots only scored
sixteen points, but they won by thirteen because they wouldn't
let the Chargers do a thing offensively. I think their
front is actually pretty stout. I think Williams being there
is equally as challenging as King. But I just think
that Pitt's brigs better up front. They have better names,
(39:04):
and the individuals have done better, but just as simply
as a defense, and you know, they had more sacks.
They had a lot more sacks. This is a middle
of pack sack team. It's a little bit better than
middle of the pack pressure rate team. But I do
think they're much more challenging to beat than the Steelers.
I tried to beat that point home last week. Great,
you turn the other teams over. You just got three
against Houston. Great, you get pressure on the quarterback. He
(39:25):
sacked CJ three times. But what else did you do?
You didn't keep them from going up and down the
field against you.
Speaker 2 (39:31):
They still scored seventeen points with those three turnovers, all
of which were ridiculous turnovers they should not be having,
especially the one in the red zone.
Speaker 1 (39:39):
That's just that's not a Steelers thing. That's the CJ
thing in my opinion, and maybe it's an excusing away
one of the turnover. Whatever the case may be. I
would expect if there are turnovers this week, they will
be much more Patriots created related from their defense. Same
thing with the Texans. Drake May has another two turnover game.
Keep in mind he also fumbled twice, lost one, and
threw an inner in his first playoff game. Now he's
(40:02):
in playoff game number two. The elements, the player elements,
the individual items that factor into this game that we've
not discussed, and there are quite a few, including what
is the opinion of Drake May from those that matter,
Texans edge rushers were from them.
Speaker 5 (40:17):
Next the a team on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (40:22):
Thirty four Football postseason activity. Last game of the college
football season doesn't come until Monday nights. Will get there.
When we get there, four teams will be eliminated. On
the NFL side, the Texans have been here before, and
they have been eliminated in each of their six previous
instances in a Divisional Round game. Two of those six
games have been played against New England. None of those
(40:44):
six games have been played against New England in the
last two years, when the Texans also lost in the
Divisional round, lost to Baltimore, lost to Kansas City. Relevant
because it's with this group, A large percentage of the
people that will be participating in game planning or playing
on Sunday have been around for the Demiico Ryans c J. Stroud,
(41:06):
Will Anderson Junior era of Houston Texans football, and it's
been very, very consistent. I'm hopeful it's not as consistent
as it can be, because if it is, it means
they'll be the same team they've been for three years.
I don't think anybody will care that they had a
nine game regular season winning streak. I don't think anybody
will care that they won twelve games in the regular season,
which is tied for the most in franchise history. I
(41:28):
think they'll care that they did not get any further
than they did either of the first two seasons and
maybe even think of it as a more of a
lost opportunity for two different reasons. One is it's pretty
clear what is different, whether or not there's advancement further
than the previous two years. One thing's different. This is
the best defense the Texans franchise has ever had, So
(41:48):
it's certainly the best defense they've had during Demico Ryan's
playoff runs, no question about it. It would be a shame
that they weren't playing more football and giving their team
more of chances to win because they can win games practically.
It seems like just with them dominating, and that's part
of what they did against the Steelers. Second thing is CJ.
Stroudp providing me this caveat that no quarterback is going
(42:11):
to get hurt the rest of the postseason that starts.
If that is the case, then either c J. Stroud,
Drake may Bow Knicks, or Josh Allen will be playing
in the first Super Bowl of their respective careers. Those
are the only four starting quarterbacks left in the AFC.
And instead of saying c J. Stroud, Josh Allen and
(42:32):
Lamar Jackson and Pat Mahomes, which is what we've said
the last two years because the same final four teams
were there each of the last two years, Stroud, Allen, Mahomes,
Jackson MVP, MVP MVP, and c J. Stroud. Well, this
year there is one MVP, Josh Allen has won one MVP.
(42:54):
He's also never played in the Super Bowl obviously hasn't
won it. He's never won the AFC. BO Nicks has
played in a playoff game. He did that last year.
He was a rookie. It was his first playoff game.
He and the Broncos had the week off last week,
so this will be playoff game number two. Just like
Drake May who was a rookie last year for a
team that won three games that he started four games overall,
(43:14):
and he played in his first playoff game a week ago.
The experience level, the aura, the gravity of the quarterbacks
remaining in the AFC playoffs is embarrassingly low compared to
what it was the last two years. The first two
years the Texans reached this point in their season.
Speaker 2 (43:35):
You know, That's what I've been thinking about with and
I kind of wanted to get to this a little bit.
Speaker 1 (43:41):
In this segment.
Speaker 2 (43:42):
The amount of injuries and not just to the ones
you just mentioned, So Mahomes isn't here because he got hurt,
but in part.
Speaker 1 (43:51):
Because they were not accurate.
Speaker 2 (43:52):
You know that, well, they weren't playing well before he
got hurt, and people do tend to forget.
Speaker 1 (43:57):
His third place team was not playing very headed to
the playoffs behind the Texans when they played.
Speaker 2 (44:03):
Exactly and then the Texans further reinforced that. And he
was still healthy at the end of that ball game.
So no excuse is there Lamar Jackson. The Texans did
not have to face him this year, but similarly, when
he did play, things weren't going well. If they were,
John Harbaugh would still probably be there instead of coaching
the Giants.
Speaker 1 (44:23):
If either of those two quarterbacks played at an MVP level,
and I know it's not only them, their quarterbacks they've got.
They can only do what those catching the passes are
blocking for them to a certain if they played at
an MVP level that they've both done in the past
many many times, even on years they didn't win MVPs,
their teams would have been in the playoffs, right, That's
all there is to it.
Speaker 2 (44:41):
Whether or not they do anything there, especially against this defense,
is another conversation. But they're not even there, so kind
of like the Jordan and the Bulls. Well, you weren't
there when the Rockets won there too, so it's not
an excuse. Since not, it doesn't cheapen it. If the
Texans ended up winning the Super Bowl this year, I
highly doubt, unlike dumb In, we're gonna have NFL fans
(45:02):
running around saying, oh, well, that was the year that
Patrick Mahomes got hurt.
Speaker 1 (45:06):
Well, you're still playing in in an AFC where Joe
Burrow's there playing great football but not enough great football
to get his team into the playoffs every.
Speaker 2 (45:13):
Year, and Josh Allen is playing a great enough football
to get his team into the playoffs. But they killed
him on national television and they might have to.
Speaker 1 (45:20):
Do it again. Would they have beat him by three?
Speaker 2 (45:23):
Him individually his team, tell him if that eight sack
night felt like his team only lost by three, And
I bet you he'd tell you it felt like they
lost by sixty.
Speaker 1 (45:31):
No doubt. I just think that the picture in front
of them is just so much different than the one
they faced of the last couple of years. They also
were more sizeable underdogs, clearly in both of their visits
last year to Kansas City the year before to Baltimore
than the field goal difference they're face to Vegas standings
in this game.
Speaker 2 (45:50):
And now let's get to the ones who are participating
and could presumably stand in your way. If you go
back and look at this season, what's the one team
that actually put up points against this defense in a
loss the Texans suffered.
Speaker 1 (46:04):
And a loss, well, I guess that would be.
Speaker 2 (46:06):
What I'm saying is, what's the team that put a
put ay They were impressive against this Texans defense in
a game in which they also beat the Texans.
Speaker 1 (46:15):
They didn't just put up points in a loss like
the Cos. There you go.
Speaker 2 (46:20):
I don't want to hear that my starting quarterback has
an oblique injury going into his first playoff game. If
I'm the Seahawks. That's not something I want to hear,
not at all. It's not gonna get better at all.
In fact, it could get worse. In fact, he'll be
lucky if it doesn't get worse, given what the activity
he will be taking part in is a professional playoff
(46:41):
football game. So all these things are lining up, and
I'm just because it's wide open, and that's not just
a cliche. If the Texans don't win the Super Bowl, now,
which you've already guaranteed they're gonna do that.
Speaker 1 (46:56):
Guarantees, guaranteed it. I said, if they beat the Steelers,
they will go to the Super That's as far as
I took it today. What I heard was that they
were gonna win the Super Bowl. That's I'm sorry, that's
pretty sure. I watched the Texans beat the Steelers, then
beat the Patriots, then beat either the Broncos or Bills,
and then say, well, that was awesome, But there's no
way they're beating the Seahawks or the Niners or the
(47:18):
Bears of the Rams. No way. Like, of course, I'll
be picking them to win the Super Bowl if they
get there, because they will already shown any of the
issues that people wanted to here's why they might not win,
and here's what they have to concern themselves with. Okay,
they did, and they won against the Patriots. We know
what all those things are. We don't know the matchup
yet next week, but they've seen both of those teams,
whomever they might play next, they have played both of them,
(47:40):
both of them in Houston, and again there's just no
I mean, there's no scenario that I'm going to not
be picking them at that point. But that's two more
wins away, probably two wins without Nico Collins. He will
not play this weekend. If you did not hear they
did rule him out. He didn't practice this week. He's
not on the field today, nor was Justin Watson, both
of whom left their life last game and entered concussion protocol.
(48:02):
They are both out. The only Texans listed as out
for this game coming up on Sunday at two. Trent
Brown the only other player with any injury designation. He
has listed as questionable, but he was on the practice
field on a limited basis today.
Speaker 2 (48:16):
You remember when CJ got his concussion and I started
being a doctor on the radio and on Twitter, and
it ended up being like precisely accurate what ended up happening,
and people were killing me for it. How do you
know he's going to miss two three games? Like because
of the way it looked, and more importantly, because of
the way he reacted after how it looked. I think
Nico Collins plays after this week if they wire I'm not.
(48:36):
I mean, maybe I shouldn't have even said it.
Speaker 1 (48:38):
I really have no idea and didn't get anything because
anybody I talked to about it.
Speaker 2 (48:42):
Even though on this very show, this mouth right here
just got done saying it was probably a harder ground
his head hit in a very different place. I just
feel like watching it, I can't help it, Like it's
fascinating to me, because this is a terrible thing that's
happening to a human being on live television in front
of it. As much as we love football, the guy's
(49:02):
brain is literally being scrambled on live television in front
of you, and watching how each individual person responds to it,
to me, maybe it's morbid. In fact, it probably is.
It's fascinating to me. When Tua was, you know, when
the fingers were curling up on the ground, it's grotesque,
but it's like that's not something you see every day,
(49:25):
and that is a different extent or a different severity
or a different reaction than you're gonna get from this
guy over here, who looks like he just kind of
sort of bumped his head and he too is out
for an extended period of time. This thing fascinates me.
But I will say, just looking at his body language,
seeing that he was a little bit more coherent at
(49:46):
least from a visual standpoint in the postgame locker room
right period.
Speaker 1 (49:49):
That's what I'm saying. Let's just start from there.
Speaker 2 (49:51):
CJ's eyes are rolling back in his head and he
looks like he didn't know where he is. I didn't
think that Nico looked like that to me. And again,
this is not not a doctor. I'm not trying to
pretend to be one. I just think that from the
body language, which I do think is important in these cases,
it lends itself to all right, if the Texans somehow
find a way to get this done this weekend, Ico
Collins is gonna be suited up against the Buffalo Bills
(50:13):
because I'm making them win the game too. I'm already
calling that if you can guarantee Super Bowl wins for
the Texans, then I can guarantee that the Bills will
come to Houston.
Speaker 1 (50:20):
There's a not much difference from a Vegas standpoint with
this game, and you look over the rest of the
NFL games this weekend before we get to the college games,
very similar story. It's a one and a half point
game home standing, Broncos are favored first game of the
day tomorrow, a touchdown difference and I wonder if it
will continue to creep closer than that because of what
(50:41):
you just mentioned with Sam Darnold. They are at home
for the Niners. Niners are not getting Fred Warner back
this week, field goal favor for the Patriots first game
of the day on Sunday, and the home standing Bears
are four and a half point underdogs with the La
Rams visiting in the last game of the weekend. Switch
should be at this point. I'm actually a little bit
(51:02):
surprised that the Seahawks number is as high as it is.
It's not even outrageous for a team that was the
number one seed playing a six seed, But we'll see.
They obviously met twice during the year. Texans played a
different fourteen and three team during the regular season, and
it was a fifteen to fifteen game when the clock
hit zero and the field goal was still in the
(51:23):
air and then it went through the uprights and hit
the net and the Broncos won. And that also obviously
was played with significant snaps not being sent to CJ.
Stroud because that was the game he obviously was hurt
in specific to Drake May and specific to a couple
of things of interest that one of the Texans edge rushers,
who knows him pretty well had to say earlier this week.
(51:46):
Want to share that with you. Next, the viewpoint on
the quarterback. The Texans defense is trying to turn into
Aaron Rodgers this Sunday. We'll get that to you.
Speaker 4 (51:55):
Next.
Speaker 1 (51:57):
The inside the matchup between the Texans of the Patriots,
even more of the A team continues on our Friday
websa ce Josh Jordan with you a little over an
hour out from our stone Cold locks, So we're relign
on exactly what we're thinking about that game. We'll share
with you our predictions throughout the weekend of NFL games
as the show continues to get more into what took
(52:17):
place in baseball last night, with Kyle Tucker saying, yes,
I'd love two hundred and forty million dollars, even with
thirty million in deferrals, to go put on Dodger Blue
for the next Well, if he gets all that money,
it's going to be for the next four seasons. But
he has some opt outs. There no opt outs. This weekend,
Patriots have to try to face the Texans defense and
do something that the Steelers and most every team in
(52:38):
the NFL could not do this year. Will Anderson talking
earlier this week about the matchup with this quarterback, a
quarterback they saw in his rookie season in his first
game in a Texans twenty point victory. I'll be it
a game where Drake May threw the ball pretty well,
put twenty one points on the board. Texans had more
than enough offense that day, both on the ground and
(52:59):
through the air. Were playing from in front throughout the game,
but that was their first experience playing Drake May. Experience
number two comes Sunday. Will Anderson's thoughts on their quarterback
Drake May.
Speaker 4 (53:10):
I would say he's taking off a little bit more,
but man, a ton of respect for a guy that
I knew like coming out of Case. Man, he's gonna
be a top guy in this league. Man, powerful on,
can run, can make throws, can use his legs, do
a really good job of scanning the field, making really
big throws. But you can see that progression that he's
taking the next step just scanning the whole field looking
for his receivers, but when it's not there. I think
(53:31):
he does a really good job of using his legs.
I always just say, like he's not taking as many
as hits as he was before, but unbelievable player, have
a ton of respect for him, can't wait to go
against him.
Speaker 1 (53:40):
Sixty six yards rushing using his legs last week and
their victory over the San Diego Chargers one of two
games this year better than sixty one of four or
now six total games a better than forty yards rushing
from Drake May. He doesn't have any, did not have
a single game this year with less than three rushes
of whatever variety. Some are sneaks, some are not really
(54:03):
a true rush, some are real scramble, some are actually
called plays. They got fewer and fewer of those throughout
the season, but two of the last four games they played,
the Baltimore game and the New England game, he had
ten carries. It is not something they're yet afraid of
in New England. Good size quarterback, and obviously it's usually
a successful play when he is the one handling it.
(54:23):
But note in each of those two games he also
fumbled the ball twice each and over the course of
the year he put the ball on the ground nine times,
ten times via fumble through nine interceptions, so that is
another thing. Three of those came in last week's game
two fumbles, one lost and then the interception, a little
(54:43):
bit more prone to some of the mistakes that maybe
they'd like. But also just in his second year, first
full year of starting. A follow up question to Will
Anderson was maybe when he thought or when he knew
that Drake may could be this player in the NFL, first, I.
Speaker 4 (54:58):
Would just say who he is as a person. I
remember I got a chance to meet him, I wantly.
It was in Pennsylvania at one of the award shows,
and he was just a down to earth guy. But
obviously watching him in college when he was at Carolina,
I was like, oh, yeah, he's special, man. But like
I said, he's a big quarterback, hard to bring down,
can sling the ball down the field. He has all
the attributes to be a really great quarterback.
Speaker 1 (55:17):
And they've all been on display in year two. A
lot of them were already showing in year one, even
in defeat. Essentially every single week we kind of mentioned
what this team has done from one year to the next.
They're a four and thirteen team. A year ago he
took over when they were one and four, they were
on a four game losing streak. The Texans made it
continue and so did the Jaguars the week after that,
(55:37):
so there were one in six two starts into his career.
They ended up winning three more times with him, the Controls,
the last of which, although probably doesn't matter a whole lot,
he barely played in that game, but he also that
means he had a six game losing streak after they
played the Texans, and then this year everything is kind
(55:58):
of falling into place. They have a good, good ground game.
Henderson has helped augment that a great deal. He does
have weapons to throw to. I don't think their household
names of great wide receivers beyond one very household name
and a familiar one to Houston Texans fans. Stefan Diggs
had one of the most unexpected seasons across the entire
(56:20):
league this year. In my opinion, I was completely unconcerned
about the Texans replacing him. He obviously missed so much time.
I think that's a fair assessment. I also thought the
way the Texans used him was probably how he would
be used moving forward, because the Bills were already doing that,
which is why they essentially phased him out of what
they were going to do in the future. And then
(56:42):
he went to New England, and I don't know many
other words to describe him other than awesome. He was
awesome this year for the Patriots.
Speaker 2 (56:50):
And I think, considering everything that's going on in his world,
that's pretty impressive that he's because a lot of times
you'll see that kind of stuff. Tyree Kills an example
where it's just In and I think, who was Oh gosh,
why am I drawing?
Speaker 1 (57:08):
She Rice?
Speaker 2 (57:08):
In Kansas City this year, two guys with Kansas City ties,
one of which still plays for them, one of which
used to who had a lot of stuff going on
in their personal lives and whether or not it actually
did affect on the field play before injuries in some cases,
I don't know, but it always tends to look like
that at least has some sort of bearing on a
(57:30):
guy's performance. You can't say that about Stefan Diggs this year,
with everything that's going on in his world.
Speaker 1 (57:34):
Yeah, some inner numbers to what he did this year.
Receiving success rate basically it quantifies what the down and
distance was and how many yards you gained on a
reception on that play, like forty percent of the yards
needed on first down, which most of the time is
first and ten sixty percent on second, and so on
down the line. He had the highest receiving success rate
of his entire career. He's eleven years in and in
(57:56):
that regard, it was the best season of his career.
You know, catch percentage, he pretty self explanatory. How many
targets did you have and how many catches did you make?
By a ton, he had the highest catch percentage of
his eleven year career. Last year was pretty good. One
of the better numbers when he was here in Houston
for those eight games was at seventy three point four.
That's a good season. That's better than his career average
(58:17):
when he was among the best receivers in the NFL
and a constant Pro bowler on his way to Houston.
And he was significantly better than that this year at
eighty three percent. He got thrown one hundred and two balls,
he caught eighty five of them. His yards per catch
was up near his career average. His total might not
be all that fantastic for who he once was, but
(58:39):
for who he is and how they wanted to use him.
Like I said, he was great. He just like I said,
I don't know how many other ways to describe it,
and I've got plenty of the sores words if you want.
And I say all that, I still am not concerned
about what he might do. He strikes me as more
of what we were looking at in the Pittsburgh matchup.
You don't want someone to be moving the change and
(58:59):
maybe he in space and there's some yards for him
the game, he's rarely in space with a bunch of
yak out there, and I think it'll be even less
against this team. But moving the chains, that's the concern.
And not only that. If they're moving the change with
Steph Diggs and their run game, that means they're probably
not being sent on the off of the field by
the Texans defense. Sexan's defense is great against the third down.
(59:20):
They don't give up a lot of yards, they don't
give up a lot of yards per play. But this
is something the Patriots can do to most other defenses.
We'll see if they can do it against Theirs. Yeah,
I don't.
Speaker 2 (59:33):
I don't know what to make of it because the
trends and who they've played and all that kind of stuff.
It's this goes into the whole preview exhaustion, if you
will that Matt Thomas mentioned, just because it's all talk
until they line up. But you can't ignore on both sides,
I guess the disparity or the lack of I mean,
(59:57):
I can't keep help but keep going back to every
time we've talked about, oh, the Patriots are, they got
a great record this year, they're doing really well this year,
and then you look at who they've beaten and it
just seems like you're trying to cheapen it. But it's
like you're not playing those teams in the playoffs. You
never are. And if Drake May, albeit slightly, is having
(01:00:18):
a drop off when he finally does play a teams
that are in the postseason and be teams that have
good defenses. I mean, again, he's coming off a sixteen
point performance. Even CJ put up more points than that,
give or take.
Speaker 1 (01:00:33):
Though definitely how he did well, I mean, he scored.
Speaker 4 (01:00:37):
Well.
Speaker 2 (01:00:37):
What he marks, you know, actually is the one that
punched it into the end zone. So I'm doing a
little bit of semantics. But they got down there because
they see.
Speaker 1 (01:00:43):
You both had one touchdown pass and one interception if
you want to equate them to each other. Yeah, one
team's offense generated sixteen points one team's offense generated seventeen.
Speaker 2 (01:00:53):
So then if you're gonna say, well, yeah, but who's
the better quarterback, and then look at their resumes and
that tells you why he's the better quarterback. You can't
factor that in on both sides, but Drake May's side
for sure.
Speaker 1 (01:01:05):
Fourth place schedule of NFL talk to get into, and
we still have more of it, even more from Will Anderson,
a little bit from others inside the Texans locker room
suspects on exactly how that matchup we think will play
out their offense against the Texans defense, and it is
a very good offense no matter who they played. Just
the bottom line, it's a very good offense. The Texans
(01:01:26):
are more than capable of shutting down very good offenses.
We'll say that, but also want to get you in
between Rockets games. Last night, the Rockets took on the
Oklahoma City Thunder and somehow managed to say close to
them without making very many baskets for three quarters, and
then when they made even fewer baskets in the fourth quarter,
they got blown out, outscored by eighteen in the fourth quarter,
lost by twenty. They have the Minnesota Timberwolves in Town
(01:01:48):
tonight much later Tip tonight, second half of a back
to back. This should be a little bit different looking
Rockets group, as heard from Email Udoka earlier on the
Matt Thomas Show, and wanted to share with you some
of that conversation that he had. Can tell you just
flat out on the injury report, two things of note
there is no Dorian Finney Smith on it to and
Tari Eason is listed as questionable e Maay commenting that
(01:02:11):
he's hopeful that Tari is returning and Anthony Edwards is
not playing tonight injury maintenance with his right foot, the
only injury of great significance for them. Terrence Shannon also out.
But that is the matchup tonight. The Wolves, obviously, if
you were not paying attention, come to town with a
better record than the Rockets, one of the few teams
in front of them in the standings. They've played there
(01:02:31):
half of a season now, they're twenty seven and fourteen
and the Rockets are playing game number thirty nine tonight.
They felled the twenty three and fifteen last night. But
some of em Udoka for you here. If you missed
the entire interview, you can catch it in full right
there at Sports Talk seven ninety dot com. Subscribe to
our shows and in this case the Matt Thomas Show
with Ross via the iHeartRadio app. It's even easier for
(01:02:52):
you to find and subscribing to our podcast that is
the easiest way to find it. Begin the conversation here
with a sense from the coach if you thought they
could put together a last good quarter and go ahead
and get the win over OKC last night.
Speaker 3 (01:03:06):
Yeah, they reminded me of Vegas a little bit last
year against them we defended at a high level Guild
of Alexander was kind.
Speaker 1 (01:03:14):
Of held in checked.
Speaker 3 (01:03:14):
Janie Williams only had six points, but we couldn't make
enough shots to really extend that lead and take advantage,
knowing that they'll get going eventually. And to your point,
it was like, Okay, seventy seven to seventy five on
the last quarter, that's put one together and we went
on a major drought and they up their physicality.
Speaker 6 (01:03:31):
Yeah, I know that your your squads do not shoot
well from three obviously, and you're trying to find an
answer for that, but I will give credit. I hate
giving credit because it's just what I don't want to do.
But they intercept passing lanes. They're ferocious there, even though
they've been a little more human in the last couple
of months. Oklahoma City can make life miserable for teams defensively,
can they not.
Speaker 3 (01:03:51):
Yeah, they're one of us in the league and pretty
unique at what they do as far as they can
play and steals, turnovers, deflections and all those things. And
so you have to be disciplined and get off the ball,
make the simple reads. But at the same time you
have to knock down those shots. And we've been in
a little bit of a tough stretch right now where
these games will look a lot different if we make
(01:04:12):
some shots, obviously, but still still garden at a high
enough level. Stests, stay confident, you know, trust the trust,
the work you put in all year, and that worm
will eventually turn, you know.
Speaker 6 (01:04:22):
And I think Kevin Durant shared your exact centiment on that.
But so someone says, coach, Hey, good morning, how arey?
Let me buy you a cup of coffee, and can
you guys make some shotsy? How does does it come
right down to that? I mean, no back, the ball
has to go through the hoop. But is it spacing?
Is it shot selection. Is it timing? Tell me where
a team that is collectively in a shooting self, especially
from three, try to shake itself when four or five
(01:04:44):
guys are kind of struggling at the same.
Speaker 3 (01:04:45):
Time, Hey, you have to do other things to interject
yourself into the game. The shots that are there at
high quality, looks that we've gone all year and been
one of the most efficient shooting teams. You have to
continue to take those and it always happens throughout you
or you'll get a slump or two and it snowballs
into the entire team. But at the same time, still
(01:05:06):
take those same shots, but do other things to get
yourself going. Get get, get in the passing lane, guard
some get some transition offense, offensive rebounds, things like that
the ball go through and not just be relying on
jump shots.
Speaker 6 (01:05:18):
Rocketet coach imy Adoka was here on a sports Talk
seven ninety and what is it like you for you
as a coach when it's a bit of a bit
of a bad run like this as far as the
self evaluation process of you and your coaching staff balancing
saying hey, yeah, this is gonna turn It's okay, or
we have to make some sort of changes or tinker
with some things.
Speaker 3 (01:05:37):
So it's a little bit of both understanding as long
as we've been around and and some players you see
it happen once or twice a year. Like I said,
it sucks when it's the whole team and you just
need one or two guys to kind of step out,
step up and make those shots. But at the same time,
you have to figure out other things and not just
say okay, the jump shots will fall. Eventually, go to
different actions, get other guys involved, and then tweak the
(01:05:59):
lineups if you have to, to inject some energy, and
I think JD did that in the Chicago game, taking
a look at some other guys and how we can help.
Speaker 1 (01:06:07):
Them as well.
Speaker 6 (01:06:08):
Yeah, that's who I was going to bring up next,
talking about tinkering and some changing. What led to the
decision with some more minutes for JD Davison and what
have you seen from him that you like and that
you would like to improve.
Speaker 3 (01:06:19):
The injuries I mean, Dorian being in out a little
bit sorry, going down his opportunity to get some other
guys some looks. You know, he's one of our more
natural point guards and guys that facilitate the offense and
get us into stuff, and so knowing what we have
with him there, it's just a chance to get him
a look with some guys being down right now, and
that was really what led into that. But had a
(01:06:40):
really good game againt Chicago. I think, Okay, see, he
made it tough on everybody last night from a shooting standpoint,
nobody had an average or above average game. But just
kind of look at him over these next few games
and seeing what he brings the table. He's done it
all through preseason, and very comfortable putting him in.
Speaker 6 (01:06:55):
You unfortunately got a tea last night the AJ Mitchell
back or did you get obviously did not get a
satisfactory explanation. Did those referees even by looking at the
screen at all, or they like, I don't want to
look at it.
Speaker 3 (01:07:07):
No, they never look up there. They they don't want
to see if they're right or wrong by looking up there.
But it's just, you know, a culmination of some things.
So that one stood out that nobody's watching the ball.
They all tell me it's not my call, not my look,
and so okay, that's fine, But I think more so
a culmination of a few different things and frustration on
my part.
Speaker 6 (01:07:25):
Well, I understand that for sure. That's the thing. If
I was referee and I goofed it up, I would
let you have about a minute and a half and
then and then we go on from there. But unfortunately
that was not the case. Tell me about Steven Adams,
a huge rebounding night for you. You've not you stayed
away from back to backs on him. We've got one
here tonight. So are you ready to announce whether he
can go to night? He can take tonight on off.
I mean, you got a bunch of games come up
(01:07:47):
even after tonight's game.
Speaker 3 (01:07:49):
Yeah, he'll be out tonight, story and they'll be available,
and I'm hoping to have Harry back Masu on how
he feels after going through a workout today. And so
you know, Minnesota is another team with some big bodies,
and you know Stephen is great against everybody, and so
we'll be conscious with him as we have been to
get him right throughout the season and have other guys
available with Randall and Nasriz and good, have some smaller
(01:08:13):
bodies to put on those stretch fives.
Speaker 1 (01:08:15):
I'm dying for the time. I won't be able to
do this and I'm hopeful tonight is that night. Seven
consecutive games, as he was talking through it that the
Rockets have shot less than thirty percent on their three
point attempts, haven't made more than ten threes in a
game in any of those seven games. Last night was
more of the same. Even with Javari Smith Junior hitting
three of his six, they just simply could not make
(01:08:36):
them than they obviously last night, which was different from
most of their other games. They weren't making any of
the other shots either. The discrepancy from the box score
last night makes very little sense discrepancy and shots. The
Rockets took fifteen more shots than the Oklahoma City Thunder
and last night's game, and they took two more free
throw attempts than the Thunder, and they lost by twenty.
(01:08:59):
They got outscored by twenty points when they took fifteen
more field goal attempts. That's hard to do, but they
only scored ninety one points because they only made thirty
five of their better than one hundred attempts from the
floor dominated on the glass. Wasn't a crazy turnover game
in terms of both teams allowed thirteen points off their
double figure turnovers. Neither team was hurt or helped dramatically
(01:09:21):
by that figure. And then you had that call that
drew the technical. He answered that very very comically. He's
always diplomatic. You can't me fact good shot of the referee.
It happened to be Kevin Cutler who just simply wasn't
looking at the basketball. And I believe in that instance
that is probably his look and he missed it. That's
all there is to it. That's Emay again. You can
(01:09:42):
catch it in full right there at the sports TX
seven ninety dot com or via subscription to the podcast.
Speaker 5 (01:09:50):
The Age on Sports Talk seven Space City home Network,
taking you up until six o'clock and taking you into
the weekend.
Speaker 1 (01:09:59):
The Rockets can't hurt it tonight, wex Oh wait they can,
I don't. I mean, I'll be fine either way. I'm
looking forward to working the game. You know what you're
getting Jypp tonight. You know why not by the Rockets.
Rockets aren't doing anything wrong. Stupid Timberwolves. You're scared to
play Anthony Edwards against this defense. That's what it is.
I'm sure that's it.
Speaker 2 (01:10:20):
But you'll be happy to know that he's fresh off
his one game suspension, So your favorite NBA center will
be in the lineup tonight, Rudy Gobert.
Speaker 1 (01:10:28):
You love Rudy Gobert. Oh, nothing but positivity on this show. Honestly,
he's a different In the regular season he hurts his
team less and the postseason he's borderline unplayable.
Speaker 2 (01:10:38):
So this is a regular season Gamey explain that I
thought he was just bad all the time.
Speaker 1 (01:10:43):
No, I mean in the regular season, and the further
his career has gone on has changed a little bit.
But he's he's impactful, he hangs out in the lane
and he makes it difficult to get high percentage.
Speaker 2 (01:10:51):
Fair he's better. He's been much better in Minnesota than
he ever was in Utah. That's fair to say about
his career.
Speaker 1 (01:10:58):
I think he's been exactly the same. But Donovan Mitchell
at all is worse than Anthony Edwards at all. He's
had better teammates. Yeah, but Donovan Mitchell is a good player.
He's almost as good as Anthony Edwards. And who's Utah's
Nas Reid? Yeah, and who's Utah's Julius Randall. All of
that is a good point, But they're just different players.
(01:11:18):
Donovan Mitchell is dwarfed in size by Anthony Edwards for starters.
Uh yeah, a smaller player, and they don't they play
their game, but they play exactly the same way.
Speaker 2 (01:11:28):
Like like Anthony Edwards is what six', seven and, LIKE
i don't think he's quite that. Tall Maybe i'm giving
him too much. Credit he, oh, he you know, What you're,
right He's, jordan he's six. Six it's funny you say.
That that's his, comparison that's his Comp.
Speaker 1 (01:11:42):
It's a good. One he is the way he plays
right the. Closest he's not the second greatest player to
ever play in THE. Nba, now That's. KOBE i thought
it Was. Lebron, no he's. Third that's probably not HOW
i would rate.
Speaker 2 (01:11:55):
Them if you could Take lebron's mentality and put it
in Or colby's mentality and put it In lebron's, body
then you would have probably the greatest of all.
Speaker 1 (01:12:08):
Time.
Speaker 2 (01:12:09):
PROBABLY i just don't think there's any question. Anymore and
in a weird, way the Longer lebron has, played the
worse it's made his.
Speaker 1 (01:12:18):
Argument, YEAH i unless something strange happens in the. Postseason
what you're seeing from The lakers the last couple of
years is what you're gonna. See last night's just one
more example of. It there's obviously they have better talent
When Austin reeves is, healthy BUT i don't know that
they're even a better team.
Speaker 2 (01:12:34):
Because lebron's agent isn't trying to trade. Him, well it's
a terrible. Fit it's not even an awful. Idea the
three of them don't play great basketball, together even on.
Offense they play miserable defensive basketball when they're, Together so
Losing Austin reeves doesn't even change. Anything they gave up
one hundred and seventy five billion points last night to
The Charlotte.
Speaker 1 (01:12:53):
Hornets that's a. Lot they got, smoked and they were
leading the game by double figures. EARLY i believe it
was a double figure. Lead but they just Don't they
don't stop anybody because they have two players who don't
play on that end of the court every, night And
lebron's one of. Them and that's not, new this has been.
HAPPENED i, mean he's forty. Plus he if he wants
to score twenty five, points grab nine, boards and have seven,
(01:13:14):
assists he probably isn't physically capable of giving the kind
of energy he does on both, ends and that's what's
happened the last few. YEARS i would note, this even
Though kevin is clearly Younger Kevin, durrant he doesn't just.
Try Kevin durant is a plus plus plus. Defender. Yep
he makes. Mistakes he got beat last night on a close.
(01:13:35):
Out that happens to. Everybody he's a good. Defender the
numbers are all there to back it. Up and then
if you just, watch he's obviously playing. Defense he's trying
on one end of the. Court and that's one difference
between those two, players and not to compare, them but
that's just you, know you look at a guy Like
Anthony edwards and that's the type of super talent you
want to ascend to one of the greatest players of this.
(01:13:57):
Era he needs more postseason success starting to see a
little bit of. It he obviously has a, really really
good team around. Him he's got an elite coach who
learned right here In houston And Chris, finch and unfortunately
you won't get to see. THAT i, MEAN i feel
for the fans and they. Should you, know a guy
comes to town a couple times a year and he
is not playing it might give your team a better
chance to. WIN i think that kind of goes without.
(01:14:18):
Saying but it's always fun to see the best players.
Play he will not be playing. Tonight, no AND i
that's in all. Seriousness you're not the only one getting.
JIPPED i JUST i like seeing great players come, in
even if they're the ONES i don't really care. For
even if there's another one coming in On. TUESDAY i
(01:14:38):
saw the Fon. Castle, yeah that that's the. One Aaron. Fox,
yeah their rookie, Sensation Dylan, harper, Yep, okay, yeah they're
all be. Here by the, way is he playing it's
several games. AWAY i don't, know but it's not that far.
Away It's tuesday. Night he's having for the next, week
so he is a. Possibility, well there's still. Time he'll be,
(01:14:59):
OUT i think unless something new. Happens AND i know
he got banged up a little bit in their most recent.
Game believe he banged knees with A. YANNIS i think
the Indications Victor Webbin yama will be available against This
Houston rocket isn't wishful.
Speaker 2 (01:15:11):
Thinking even though it's going to sound like. It this
is happening more and more often even if it's not,
severe he's getting he didn't have so his first year, fine,
right and then the second year he had the uh Or,
no his first year was the blood, Clots but that
was the very tail end of the.
Speaker 1 (01:15:26):
Season, Correct AM i getting this right with my? Timeline
that was last? Season? Okay so his first year he
was healthy the whole. TIME i, mean what kind Of,
yeah he played seventy one. GAMES i think that's.
Speaker 2 (01:15:35):
Fair that's WHAT i was trying to. Remember, yeah then
last year he. Missed, however it was a big chunk
last couple of months of the. SEASON i want to,
say thy five games missed, Overall, right this year it's been, Like,
okay now he's got this over. Here now he's got
that over. There now he's got his over. Here now
he's got this nagging.
Speaker 1 (01:15:50):
Thing it's not that. Big he'll play through. It now
he's heard. It get it.
Speaker 2 (01:15:53):
Like it's happening more and. MORE i know it's not
What i've, predicted yet we're heading. THERE i just guys
like that that this keeps happening With put it this.
Speaker 1 (01:16:06):
Way If i'm A spurs, fan and believe, Me i'm.
Speaker 2 (01:16:08):
Not If i'm A spurs, Fan i'm keeping a big
time eye on this because attendance is the biggest key
to any sort of success he's ever going to. Have
they have already. Proved, look they're better than The rockets right.
Now it hurts my soul to say, that but they just.
Are the record's. Better they beat teams that they, should
two of things that The rockets don't have going for
(01:16:29):
them right, now multiple. Teams by the, way with The,
rockets and, oh by the, way they can beat The
thunder three, times you haven't beaten them. Once SO i
just think that you know right, now if you're A
rockets fan and you're looking at things in The Western,
conference because let's face, it the division doesn't, matter that's
(01:16:50):
Your that's, honestly unless you've beat them head, up which
you can Do, tuesday that's your best chance of making
up any ground right, now which you thought was also going.
Speaker 1 (01:16:58):
To be the case With.
Speaker 2 (01:16:59):
Denver but they're, like screw, it we're just gonna win
all of our games. Anyways Without. Joker it's. Crazy they're
the only The rockets are the only team that fancies
themselves a contender with who they, have and they should
With Kevin, Durant But they're the only team that just
is not making hay when they should this. Season and
THEY i Know shingoon's been out a couple of. GAMES
i Know Tarry easton has not had a healthy, season
(01:17:19):
and yes we know That fred Van vliet is out
the entire. Time but they just have not rolled with
the punches as well as some of these other teams
that are missing big time.
Speaker 1 (01:17:29):
Guys he's missed fourteen. Games they've gone ten and four
in those. Jokers No, Wemby Oh. Wimby ten and. Four
i'm gonna go throw up during the. Break that's why
they are where they are in the. Standings they've been
eighteen and nine with, him ten and four without.
Speaker 2 (01:17:43):
Him right four, o'clock which means we are halfway home
on A friday edition of the, Program and that's the
best news, ever because we're that much closer To sunday's
too ish. Kickoff it's not two, thirty, right it's two.
O'clock that's WHY i like about THE. Nfl, hey here's
the time we're going to kick off the. Game and
(01:18:04):
then when that time gets, here it's the balls in the.
Air there's no waiting around on. IT i mean not
to give The rockets. Fits if it's a seven o'clock
tip and game's not tipping off till about seven, twelve seven, Thirteen.
Speaker 1 (01:18:17):
Well there's no local angle to the. Sport, YEAH i get.
That every single game is. National every game is led
into by either a previous game or a national one,
hour two hour.
Speaker 2 (01:18:29):
Three this lends itself to you better get your butts
in your seats if it's a home game and you
want to, attend and then you know you better be
in front of THAT tv if you want to see
the first play of the. Game SO i can't wait
AND i wanted to get to. Something AND i know
you've seen this floating around on social. Media The, texans
to their, credit by the, way their social media team
(01:18:51):
has been awesome this.
Speaker 1 (01:18:51):
Year they're good every. Year all the teams in.
Speaker 2 (01:18:53):
Town by the, Way i'd take an opportunity to say
That rockets were, biased but their whole video department is just.
Notch the fact that they brought back the dream ond
Video chef's Kiss Jim odessa. Again shout out to. HIM
i saw him last. Night he, GOES i heard you
give me a shout. Out i'm, like, yeah, man we
love that. Stuff everybody. Does astros do a great job,
obviously and The texans do as. WELL i would say
(01:19:16):
The texans just as an individual of the three. Teams The,
texans for their own, standards have taken it a step
up this. Year but part of the reason they've been
able to do that is because the contents. There, yes
but the characters are. There And i'm watching this video
AND i know you've seen it because you see everything they.
Do it's basically and not the other it's it's a
(01:19:38):
different video of the secondary you mentioned the one yesterday
Where Derek stingley's just like stone, cold not saying anything
and the other three guys are goofing off. Whatever it's
the one where basically they called their shot For Kaylen
bullock to get that pick. Six, yeah they were miked.
Up jalen had a mic on if you get, it
are you gonna go? Down are you gonna run it?
(01:19:59):
Back i'm running it back And i'm. PARAPHRASING i can't
DO i can't even remotely approach what they. Did they're
talking about it like they're seventh graders on the. Playground
that's what's terrifying to. Me you don't think they're gonna
do that In New. England oh it's. Snowing, Oh Drake
may has, Superpowers he's the son Of, god all this.
Stuff they're gonna be over there doing the same thing
(01:20:21):
and probably backing it up on the, field and it's
like they're laughing about. It they're gonna tear his heart
out and eat it on the field In New, england
and they're gonna laugh about it, before, during and after
they do. It that is a, scary scary Proposition patriots.
Speaker 1 (01:20:37):
Fans it's both sides of. It this is a much
better opponent The. Texans LIKE i said, yesterday they played
the worst team in the playoffs in THE. Afc carolina's probably,
worse but they played the WORST afc team and it
looked like. It they beat him soundly again in a
game that was only seven to six in another fourth. Quarter, yeah,
Well patriots aren't. That patriots played a good, defense but
(01:20:59):
they didn't play this defense That both things can be.
True this is something that they haven't faced. Before this
is a bigger challenge than they faced in any regular season,
game certainly in their first postseason game With Drake may
last week against The, chargers where they were sizeable. Favorites
they have not faced a challenge like. This they've not
faced a defense like. This nobody has and it does sound,
redundant but facing DEFENSE x means we need to concern
(01:21:24):
ourselves with this elite edge rusher or this great tackle
or this cornerback that's gonna be very difficult to throw.
Against have they already eliminated half the? Field how do
we want to deploy our receivers because of? That is
he staying with? Them it's not what happens when you
face The. Texans you could absolutely completely commit to shutting
Down Daniel, hunter and you might be able to do.
(01:21:45):
It and then what what are you gonna do with
the other defensive? Lineman what are you gonna do With
Will Anderson? Junior how does that impact How Kayln bullock
is chasing everything down in the secondary on the back?
End how does that impact all the TFLs That Jalen
petrie's gonna. Have how does it impact the fact that
your guys can't get open against the two best corners
on any one team in The NFL's, no there's no
(01:22:07):
scheming to beat The texans at some, point it is
just simply can your guys outplay, there. Guys you're not
going to outsmart. Them you're not going to out scheme,
Them you're not going to put. There they're going to
be plays where that, happens whether their trick plays or.
Not but it's not going to happen because you just
tore a better coached team and you quote unquote got
(01:22:28):
them this. Week josh McDaniel's is not going to create
some unbelievable game plan that The texans are in the
locker room after the game, saying we don't know what hit.
Us we don't we did not know how to. Adjust
and you know obviously THAT i just don't see a.
Scenario we've watched it for now eighteen. Games it's just
it's so. Unlikely and the good news is all the
(01:22:49):
best that The texans have to offer is out there
on the. Field, defensively it is a difficult process to
even go through your game. Plan but The patriots are
actually going to attack the game the same way The texanes.
Are tell you about The. Texans, first The texans have
said this so many. Times you probably heard it enough from,
them you don't need to hear it from. Me But
i'll tell you what it. Is they don't care about
any of the stuff we talk. About now we talk
(01:23:10):
about the, weather they do not. Care they definitely do not.
Care after playing in the weather already twice this, year
this team In, pittsburgh they don't. Care they're barely paying
attention to. It because they're also not the only team
on the field whatever weather they're playing, in so is
the other. Team it's a it's an equipment related. Issue
only did we Have are we currently wearing the right?
(01:23:33):
Shoes do we need to get different? Shoes down? Coat?
Yes are the gloves and play? What that's? All it.
Speaker 2 (01:23:40):
Is none of the other stuff. MATTERS i want to
wear one of those because you don't need to. HEAR
i want to get, one and THEN i want to
go somewhere and wear.
Speaker 1 (01:23:48):
It it's it's it's an awesome neat item AND i
display it in the. HOUSE i ain't wearing that. Thing
what those down? Coats you have?
Speaker 2 (01:23:57):
ONE i don't want to wear. THAT i don't want to. Sweat, well,
yeah In. Houston do you remember When i've.
Speaker 1 (01:24:03):
Been in weather that's below freezing and less than zero
and snowing AND i had multiple layers on and that was.
Speaker 2 (01:24:13):
Plenty, well where were you on the sideline last year
DURING u OF eh season that was so.
Speaker 1 (01:24:19):
Cold that Was, utah you almost. DIED i did not almost.
Speaker 2 (01:24:23):
Die, yeah but it sounded like you were going to
with the temperatures they were talking about there and the
way they were talking.
Speaker 1 (01:24:27):
About AND i WAS i definitely was not even dressed
properly for. THAT i should have had more, on but
had a little cap, on had my gloves. On let's
so let's play, football or let's talk about football from
the sidelines and not ever get hit and have nothing
to worry. About that was, me keep your head. On
so they don't care about the. Weather they also don't
care about one of the other. Things we definitely talked
(01:24:48):
about it because it's what we. Do taylor's on the
on The. Patriots now he went to practice all week this.
Week he spent ten months In houston and now he's
there at their practices and their. Practice. YEAH i did
see this. Quote he's you know, what good for? Him
what did he?
Speaker 2 (01:25:02):
Say, Well i'm in paraphrase kind of have in front of,
me but he's BASICALLY i was there like ten seconds
he said ten.
Speaker 1 (01:25:08):
Months, yeah but that's.
Speaker 2 (01:25:10):
The same thing he was saying totally, different he was,
saying though his point was the. Same he was, SAYING
i CAN i can only tell you so much because
they only told me so much now he, did which ten.
Speaker 1 (01:25:21):
Months that sounds like what were you? Doing, no, no,
no it sounds like you're playing in a position group
and you. Know, no, no you know what you, know but
you don't know. EVERYTHING i guarantee you this is a
much bigger deal outside both. Organizations like with the, media
it says of no concern to the. Texts do you
think The texans going to this game concerned? That, well,
(01:25:42):
there they got a leg up on us because of.
This you Heard mike Vrabel i played it for you
earlier this. Week The texans have his brother on, Staff ben,
McDaniels who worked with him for two years In. Denver
on the offensive, side they got three other coaches that
worked Under josh McDaniels In New england as he was
their offense coordinator In popovich And, schuplinsky and obviously The
(01:26:03):
TEXANS oc did The texans, say, LOOK, CJ i know
you want to get together and figure out our game,
plan but most of our offensive staff is busy right.
Now they're talking To tamiko And Matt burke About josh McDaniel's.
Tendencies so we're gonna do it differently this. Week we're
not gonna have an offensive. Meeting we're just gonna kind
of wing it when we get To. Sunday i'm sure
we'll figure things. Out we've played eighteen times. Already don't
(01:26:24):
worry about. It, no they're not changing. ANYTHING i don't
expect them to change. Anything they're gonna do what they've always.
Done you know, why because they believe in what they're.
Doing they believe in their head coach that is like
the best thing about. Him and you, KNOW i know
this is the season where we pick up part coaches
because nine of them no longer have their old. Job
they're nine head coaches that are no longer, there most
(01:26:45):
of which we're told to Leave Mike tomlin on his own.
Accord but what are you supposed to be above all
of the nitpicking that we do About he's not a
good clock, manager doesn't have a very good. Offense he's
a defensive minded head. Coach you're supposed to. Lead if
you can't, lead you can't coach if you can't get
these guys to believe in what you want from, them
(01:27:07):
and get your coaches to then do those things, similarly
to describe, literally technique, wise what you want from. Them
then you're going to.
Speaker 2 (01:27:14):
Fail say if you can't, Lead if you can't, lead
you can't.
Speaker 1 (01:27:18):
Win now say it Like rocky's, wife you can't. Win thank.
You and Then Robert tepper plays and he gets in
his three hundred Z x, yes and he sees flashbacks
Of apollo and he, dude the, glove the towel is
full Of apollo's. Blood throw, it. Dummy he. Doesn't he
just hangs on to. It don't you do? That don't
(01:27:40):
you do that to? Him He's stallion. ANYWAY i can't
believe he did that to. You if you can't, lead
that's job. One You're you're out of business as a
head coach in THE. NFL oh having great players is
the ultimate. Equalizer guess what makes a great head coach
Like Mike mike Frabel is In New? England how did
he get there because another team told him to get? Lost,
well not just the stupid Ass? Titans well why was
(01:28:03):
he moderately unsuccessful?
Speaker 2 (01:28:05):
There because they made it that way for? Him players
traded away his best. Players when he did have, them.
Speaker 1 (01:28:09):
He didn't have good. Players they lost. Games what does
he have A New, england he had good.
Speaker 2 (01:28:12):
Players they traded one To philly and they won a Super. Bowl,
yeah and look at them, Now, wow at least they
made the. Postseason you win when you have good. Players
you can coach yourself to a certain. Degree but the
point is that's what he does first and. Foremost so
for him to go into a week against The, patriots
who have a better, offense maybe the best offense they've,
Faced they've got familiarity with what The texans.
Speaker 1 (01:28:33):
Have they've Added taylor the. Weather if he all of
a sudden went into the weeks less than a week's
worth of preparation because they played On monday night and
they're flying out On, saturday and decided we're going to
do things, differently he'd lose these. Guys he would never do.
That he hadn't done that from day. One it's the
same stuff he wanted them to buy into in twenty
twenty three that he wants them to buy into in
(01:28:53):
twenty twenty, five and they're bought. In it's nice that
so many players are, back and a lot of them
are right there defensively run through a brick. Wall there
are coaches that can lead somehow and don't give you that.
Vibe this coach gives you that vibe and obviously can.
Lead his leadership abilities almost cloud how good he actually
(01:29:13):
is as a football, coach because those are through the. Roof,
arguably there can't be five coaches in THE nfl we
consider better leaders Than.
Speaker 2 (01:29:22):
Demiko it's like you can't coach, height you can't teach
what he. Does and he's been that way since he
got here in two thousand and six in the draft
as a, player speaking of Which i'm glad you brought him,
up because you know, what we're not done giving him his.
Flowers next, segment two different examples of, that one on
the field and one sort of on the, field and
we're gonna hear From Will anderson as.
Speaker 1 (01:29:43):
Well that's. Next THE a.
Speaker 5 (01:29:46):
Team On sports talking about, right speaking of The texans
social media, team And i'm pretty sure this was, them
unless it was THE Nfl powers that.
Speaker 2 (01:29:59):
BE i actually am not sure on. THIS i Just
i'm talking from memory LIKE i always do on the.
Show the two pieces of video slash audio THAT i
have seen From Demiko ryans just to kind of dovetail
off of what we were talking about last, segment that
subject Being he's like the greatest thing since slice bread
in every.
Speaker 1 (01:30:18):
Way we all Love, dimiko, Right he's easy to root.
Speaker 2 (01:30:21):
For it's not just the, handshake pregame and postgame With Mike,
tomlin which they did extensively. Cover THE nfl cameras miked
up all that kind of stuff that.
Speaker 1 (01:30:35):
They Catched demko saying, afterwards hope enjoys his last.
Speaker 2 (01:30:38):
Game he didn't say. That he didn't mutter that into
the microphone that was on his. Lapel he Goes, Mike,
Mike i'm miked. Up, CAREFUL i thinking miked me up.
Today don't say anything that was super, proudy a lot
of respect for one. Another, well he played against a
team coached By Mike, tomlin then he coached against a
team coach By Mike, tomlin and he coached again as
(01:31:00):
a team coach By Mike tomlin for the last. Time
that was cool to see that was covered, extensively not
a lot OF i, mean the dialogue was. Brief it
was more friendly and small. Talk And i've got a
game to prepare, for so to why let's just say
hi and go our separate, ways but proud of, You
glad you're.
Speaker 1 (01:31:19):
Successful so you two all that kind of.
Speaker 2 (01:31:21):
Stuff and then after you, Know Mike tomlin has to go,
retire so he didn't want to keep him up too.
Long but just you, know, congratulations that kind of. Thing
but that was still cool to. See you could tell
they respected each. Other The Chang gang guy since nineteen seventy,
five that was so. Cool i'm SORRY i get hooked
line and sinker with that emotional gushy stuff when it
(01:31:45):
comes to.
Speaker 1 (01:31:46):
Sports it took a moment to actually dive. In it
would have usually been a conversation, that you, know good
luck in your game, today it's great to be out of.
Here congrats on your, success and he says, thanks and
then he puts his headset on and he walks back
down the sideline and does whatever job was, next or
talk whoever he needs, to but he keeps his head
set off and his, name what if how long you
been doing? This what's your? Name and that's how we'd
(01:32:07):
have that information. Now considering especially your good morning, video
it's it's almost as IF i wanted one more thing
from that my video nineteen seventy. Five, huh, yeah you've been.
Here so were you on the field When Mike renfro
caught that? Ball can you imagine if he asked? Him
(01:32:31):
And i'm NOT i wasn't even.
Speaker 2 (01:32:32):
Alive my dad actually he NEVER i, mean my dad's
very supportive of, me even Though i'm a total. Knucklehead
AND i like to tell people all the, time anything
good about me came from my. Parents anything bad about
me is not their. Responsibility Especially. Brent he's just a
he's assault of the, earth amazing human. Being he's a
really nice. Guy he's like the opposite of. Me but,
occasionally And tuesday morning was one of, those he'll reach
(01:32:57):
out and he'll say basic really.
Speaker 1 (01:33:00):
Great because he was here obviously in the.
Speaker 2 (01:33:03):
Seventies, actually technically when that all, happened he had already moved,
away but he kept an eye on things because he grew.
Up he's a Native houstonian and he knew What Love
You blue meant to the. City and he's not even
a sports. Fan he knew that because it superseded. Sports
it was a cultural thing here In. Houston it's like
talking About gillies urban. Cowboy's that's just it's not just
(01:33:23):
a club In. Pasadena it was a whole. THING i,
mean what's his face still talks about it to this,
day being in that, movie AND i think he set
up shop in the middle Of nipha's like every other
night the original On.
Speaker 1 (01:33:36):
Navigation he loves that. Place.
Speaker 2 (01:33:38):
Anyway all of that is to, say you know that
kind of. Stuff to, me it says a lot about
a guy's. Character i'll give you an. Example Whenever i'm
In Toyota center for a, game and this wasn't the
case last night BECAUSE i didn't go, downstairs actually know it.
Speaker 1 (01:33:58):
WAS i did? THIS i? DID i take that, back
did do?
Speaker 2 (01:34:00):
THIS i try to to say hello to as many
people that are attendants or just anybody who's working in
the arena that's on my path THAT i go every
single time i'm, there because they're, there they're working the.
Speaker 1 (01:34:18):
Game just like the chain gang. Guy like.
Speaker 2 (01:34:20):
You how many people overlook that, guy probably for no
good reason and they haven't intentionally doing, it just how
he's just, There like how many guys.
Speaker 1 (01:34:27):
Like many of, them the people you're talking about A Toyota,
center end of our people and the person That tamiko's
talking to on the chain. Game they are missed when
they're not there because they rarely aren't.
Speaker 2 (01:34:40):
There they're always the same, People they're always in the same,
place and they always if you talk to one of
them just to say they're so, friendly they really. Are
they're contrary to popular, belief they're not just the people
that say get out of, here stop trying to take
pictures on the floor after the.
Speaker 1 (01:34:55):
Game that's not what they.
Speaker 2 (01:34:57):
Do and by the, way since we're on the subject of,
this shout out To carrie who does an amazing job
on The Frost East club where we are at the
top of one twenty one doing our, broadcast because he
kind of mans that.
Speaker 1 (01:35:08):
Area he's the guy in the red.
Speaker 2 (01:35:10):
Blazer if you're ever Inside Toyota, center Carry, hardy one
of The salts of The earth PEOPLE i was talking.
Speaker 1 (01:35:15):
About he's just such a good. Dude even away From Toyota.
Center he's got a side business that's.
Speaker 2 (01:35:20):
Amazing and if you guys don't reach out to me about,
THAT i will tell you he can help you.
Speaker 1 (01:35:24):
Out BUT i JUST i love seeing.
Speaker 2 (01:35:27):
That kind of stuff a because it shows De miko
and the way he is as a, person which we
know from covering him as a. PLAYER i don't think
that guy's changed one, bit do You like from when
we're covering him as a, player it's like the same.
Speaker 1 (01:35:40):
Dude so what's the leader of the, team which we
were talking about last. Segment he's not a player, anymore
so he no longer can be the captain of the.
Team but that's exactly what a head coach. Is, yep
to a certain. Extent and the moment he walked in
the door heck At bama as a college, player and
the same thing when he walked through the door as
the second round draft pick the high school when he had.
(01:36:01):
Hair he's his. Cap there's a real like that's that's
a head coach's. Name that's a head coach's. Job he's
the captain of the. Team he runs the. Team this
is What demiko was when he was a rookie with The,
texans when that nickname was so obviously the one that
he should, have and then he carried on through his
career In, houston through his career In. Philadelphia that's what he,
does that's what he. Is how many times have we
(01:36:22):
HEARD jj Or cush or anybody who played alongside him
here In houston who we still hear from quite a.
Bit that's why they knew, Then like whether it was
For houston or, not he was always gonna coach if
he wanted, to he would be great at. It and
lucky For houston, fans he wanted to and wanted to.
Speaker 2 (01:36:41):
Hear and here's the, thing you know HOW i know
among the other fifty billion raison, reasons those guys will
run through a brick wall for him and love. Him
they're mimicking his sack celebration from when he.
Speaker 1 (01:36:53):
Played they got a.
Speaker 2 (01:36:54):
Kickout that is so, Cool like, You, okay first of,
all you have to be able to have that by
how having the coach of your franchise be a guy
who played. Here but even if he played elsewhere and
they were doing, that it's kind of like The Ray Lewis,
dance only you're not mocking. It like who is it
that did that this year is if you're, worthy it
Was Jalen, Knowle Jalen. Nole that's, Right but, yeah like
(01:37:15):
that's that is just one example that was also highlighted
by the social media team this year of how much these.
GUYS i don't think that losing the locker room is
going to be any sort of issue for the NEXT
i don't, know twenty he could be here twenty. Years
he could Be Mike. Tomlin i'm not even.
Speaker 1 (01:37:33):
Kidding the one thing that sticks with me when you,
said and we talked about it, before they mimicked his
sack dance and now the hammer coming. Down, well they're
watching him as a, player mimicking what he. Did and
this last week they the players who were mimicking, him
tried to get after a player he. Sacked he played
Against Aaron.
Speaker 2 (01:37:54):
Rodgers, yeah that was amazing because they did the side By,
see there were so many things about watching the game
in the other room Where teresa is in the, room
like she just doesn't watch any of this. Stuff she's
always Watching bravo or some crap like. That they put
the graph or the double shot up The Real housewives
of whatever neighborhood you live. In she's starring.
Speaker 1 (01:38:12):
That she watches The utah. One i'm, like, really There's,
dimiko so it's like seven housewives and one. Husband, sure, Sure. Utah,
yeah that's mean and.
Speaker 2 (01:38:25):
Accurate they do the side by side age forty, One,
dimiko age forty, Two Aaron, rodgers and then they show
him sacking him and talk About they kind of joked
about the fact that he.
Speaker 1 (01:38:36):
Didn't he didn't mention it to him when they spoke
before the, Game but like.
Speaker 2 (01:38:42):
That's just it is so, like this is WHAT i,
wanted this is WHAT i knew would be the case
when he was. Hired but all that stuff is just
it's not as it's like the jersey. Thing it's not
as important if he's not, winning but he's doing.
Speaker 1 (01:38:54):
THAT i, mean even take the four coaches that are
are still, around and clearly two of them are are
comparable and. Similar they're coaching this weekend against each. Other
the other matchup is the first of, all a stupid dad. Joke.
Nonsense every coach that's that's still going basically other Than
demiko Is sean Or.
Speaker 2 (01:39:14):
Mike oh, yeah that's like sports talk radio In. Houston
everybody's Named adam Or, sean the Two.
Speaker 1 (01:39:20):
Shawn's let's say That broncos pick Off Josh allen and
have a ninety five yard return for. Touchdown Sean payton
will have his glasses at the end of his, nose
looking over his call sheet and maybe give a small fist,
pump and if the reverse, Happens sean McDermott will do
the same thing flaring shoes he. Endorses if it happens
in The Texans patriots, Game Dimiko ryans will go out
(01:39:42):
run the defender who's headed towards the end. Zone Mike
rabel will run over people that are in his way
as he makes his way down the.
Speaker 2 (01:39:49):
Sideline Sheldon rankins going into the end zone was only
eclipsed by his, reaction.
Speaker 1 (01:39:54):
And he did it both times this. Year For rankins
in The pittsburgh game and For rankins in The jacksonville.
Game he's, Sprinting he's playing the game to a certain
extent right there on the.
Speaker 2 (01:40:03):
Sideline he's still a kid to an, extent and they
are playing a kid's, Game so that is.
Speaker 1 (01:40:07):
PERFECTLY i have a chance to dig in on all
of the games this weekend and The national title game On,
monday because a signature segment time that means our stone cold.
Locks It's, friday they're.
Speaker 5 (01:40:18):
Next look at, This i'm getting late. Tonight you can
trust whatever it, said or you could trust these two
guys Named.
Speaker 1 (01:40:31):
Adam it's a.
Speaker 5 (01:40:32):
Crap shoot either, way but these are your.
Speaker 1 (01:40:36):
Stone cold, locks stone cold all, right we've reached our signature,
segment final one of the. Week we hit you On
friday during football season with our stone cold locks into
week twenty. One lots to look, at lots to TO
(01:40:58):
i don't know see how we do On obviously a
little revisit of last. Week don't need to see a
full board of. It BUT i moved a little bit
further ahead BECAUSE i didn't get any games wrong shockingly
this past. Week josh three out of, five you two
out of. Five and here we are with our last
week of picks that includes a college football. Game the
season comes to an end On monday, Night indiana hosting The.
(01:41:21):
Hurricanes indiana is a sizeable, favorite even In miami's home
building right there IN.
Speaker 2 (01:41:29):
Fla Every Big City wings has viewing parties there they.
Speaker 1 (01:41:33):
Do it's a great place to enjoy that, game both
of the games On, sunday and of course both of
the games On, saturday all of the, games all of
the games over At Big City. Wings we want to
get you into this. Week, obviously that game has to
be selected And Texans patriots has to be. Selected patriots
are a three point favorite over under at forty point.
Five indiana is an eight and a half point favorite
(01:41:55):
over under forty seven and a, half and you can
choose any of the other matchups that you, like or
even The texans. Game, additionally we always start with, You,
josh But i'm going to set it up this. Way
other than the college football game where you agree with,
Me we're going to Take indiana to continue crushing, fools
which they have done so. Far two opportunities to crush,
(01:42:15):
somebody they have come through both. Times we think it's
gonna happen a third. Time the other four games THE nfl.
Games each one of the other four, Games, josh you
think the dog is the Play two of them are
The bears are at home and they're a. Dog the
other three teams obviously road teams that are. Dogs why
the dogs this, Week? Josh, well with The, Bears i'm
(01:42:37):
rolling with them. Again i've been on them a lot
this year with the. POINTS i was on them against
The packers that worked. OUT i think The bills should
probably be the favorites in this, game so that's Why
i'm taking The bills with The.
Speaker 6 (01:42:47):
NINERS i JUST i don't know With seattle that seven
points feels like a, lot even THOUGH i Think seattle will,
win So i'll take the, points and taking the points
with The niners last week against The eagles paid, Off
so a lot of these Wex i'm kind of rolling
with What i've been. Doing and then with The, Texans
i'll get to that one. Later And, indiana they've Just
i'm not betting against him. ANYMORE i betted for them last.
(01:43:08):
Week they, covered no. Problem so that's Where i'm.
Speaker 1 (01:43:10):
At the dogs as. Well, OBVIOUSLY i think it's safe
to say you think The bills are going to win the.
Game that's such a tight. Number. Yep are you calling
for victories and the other three as? Well not so.
Speaker 6 (01:43:24):
Much, NO i like the points in those, Games.
Speaker 1 (01:43:27):
So The patriots are going to Be i'm reading between the.
Lines The patriots are going to win this, game but not.
Speaker 6 (01:43:31):
COVER i think The texans, win but the, points that's
WHAT i wanted TO i like how you choked it
out of, him the answer you wanted.
Speaker 1 (01:43:38):
To, Hear, well he know he was trying to hold
The texans for the last, pick which we normally. Do
BUT i already put it out there they was taking
all of the, dogs And i'll put it out there as.
WELL i agree on The. Texans he AND i have
had a hard time separating from one. Another we take
a lot of the same. PLAYS i hate both of.
You a couple of more of those this. Week thirty nine.
Wins that's. ATROCIOUS i mean it's one hundred games This
(01:44:00):
we've played twenty. Weeks five picks a, week so that's
one hundred. Plays, listen thirty nine times you got you
were on the right side of. It that's a that's
that's the best. THING i thirty nine times you're, like,
hey he was stone, cold.
Speaker 2 (01:44:12):
CORRECT i feel like the great stomping. Lady that's the news.
Anchor stop and THEN i fall. Off that's me this.
Speaker 1 (01:44:18):
Season Oh Ali, Awi, ALI i can't. Breathe that's. Me
he's six.
Speaker 2 (01:44:23):
Games he's not real happy with his. Picks OH i,
DON'T i. KNOW i think he isn't think he.
Speaker 1 (01:44:26):
Isn't they're the.
Speaker 2 (01:44:28):
Worst they cared nothing about. HERSELF i think she's really. Hurt,
OH i think she. Is all, right let's go just
howie aUI, Awi i'm sure now you know WHAT i
want to did land face first from a. PLATFORM i
want somebody to catch up with like the most famous
YouTube videos. Ever just go find that people like the
boom goes the dynamite. GUY i want like expos's on
(01:44:50):
all these epic YouTube videos we've seen over the.
Speaker 1 (01:44:52):
Years so there's a couple of news videos as. Well M.
M they're the kid who's being. INTERVIEWED i think it
was a play like. Turtles that guy the one who
the one who immediately starts. Crying oh, yeah that's that's
a good one. Too and then there's what people say
when their teams. Lose i'm not. Crying our good, Friend
Sophia oheita was on the reporting end of one of
(01:45:13):
the other. Ones the kid who just couldn't stop. Talking
OH i didn't know. That oh, wow he has sense a.
Speaker 2 (01:45:18):
Peeriod what about When Isaiah carrey swallows a bug in
that country bleep.
Speaker 1 (01:45:22):
Town we don't need to the news, people we don't
need to find. Them we walk over to the. Station all,
Right stone Cold locks, Continue i'll continue with my. Selections
then we'll hit you with the real good, stuff the
mister thirty nine. Percent they'll come. NEXT i do Like
indiana to crush. AGAIN i Think miami's probably going to
provide the best defense and maybe the best game plan
because they could churn up clock with their ground. Game
(01:45:44):
BUT i just Think indiana is if they're the best
team in the, country and Maybe miami's the tenth or
seventh or sixth best team in the, country WHICH i
think is still a fair thing to. Say, YES i
think they're going to win. Handily, again agree With josh
on The bills and The. Broncos i'll flat out and say,
YES i do think The bills are going to. Win
you guys know what that. Means that means when The
texans take the field On, sunday they know a home
game is dangling in front of. Them hopefully they're paying
(01:46:06):
no attention to, it but they're. Human they will. Know
i'm gonna play a rare under take the under on
The rams And. Bears i'm sure that'll come back to
bite me in the fourth quarter when the game is
sitting at twenty one and both teams score twenty and
it goes.
Speaker 2 (01:46:19):
Over The bears are gonna do what they did against
The packers defense against The. Rams The rams defense has
been playing so, badly you're.
Speaker 1 (01:46:26):
Late they give up thirty one points To Bryce young's.
TEAM i might change my pick And i'm playing The
Texans patriots in a second. Way i've done that once.
Before i'm playing the, over anticipating reasonable weather conditions and
anticipating both teams finding a way to score against two good.
Speaker 2 (01:46:46):
Defense you know, WHAT i want the weather to actually
live up to the. Hype this time they screwed us
over In, chicago don't do it again In New.
Speaker 1 (01:46:53):
England all, right tell.
Speaker 2 (01:46:54):
Us what games you're playing the over on and what
games you're playing the under. On i'm only playing one
under and that is Rams, at much like. You so
even If i'm even IF i get over forty So i'm,
SORRY i feel LIKE i should apologize to my entire.
Speaker 1 (01:47:07):
Family there's only two more weeks of. This by the,
way thank.
Speaker 2 (01:47:11):
God for, That Miami indiana taking the over forty seven
and a half like, That same with The bills at The,
Broncos same with the forty nine ers at The.
Speaker 1 (01:47:22):
Seahawks, YEAH i think the other than The bears, game
the other THREE nfl, GAMES i think scream over with those.
NUMBERS i. Think so we'll see what the two teams
that were off this past week look. Like and even
if they don't look great coming out of the, gate
or if the oblique injury is consequence To, DARNELL i
think there's time at their home fields against the defenses
that they're Playing bills in one case And niners in
(01:47:43):
the other, case there's there's more than an opportunity to
recover against those. Teams niners hardly ever get after the.
Quarterback The bills have had trouble stopping teams much of the, year.
THOUGH i think they're a little bit better than. That
but the facts are what they. Are, YEAH i would
play it that way as. Well It's texans, time, Right,
yeah you know What josh AND i are. Thinking, oh that's.
Right yays already did. YOURS i thought we were all
(01:48:04):
doing them at the. END i.
Speaker 2 (01:48:05):
Forgot i'm also taking the over in that. GAME i
know that The texans defense is, involved but If Drake
may is everything he's cracked up to, be these two
teams find a way to combine for more than forty
and a.
Speaker 1 (01:48:21):
Half right in the, far far less important meeting last,
year it was a sixty two forty four of that Was,
houston a nice forty one twenty forty, one that's, right
forty four Was baltimore this, year that's, Right so we'll
see kind of leads you into what we're all thinking
for that. GAME i think it's pretty, obvious and we
can share our predictions specifically on each of the games
(01:48:42):
over the course of the next hour and. Change, obviously
in the final segment of the, show will lay it
down once and for all what we think is going
to happen between The texans and The, patriots not just,
score not just how it, goes but how you're gonna
feel about. It between two and five fourteen Pm sunday, afternoon.
Speaker 2 (01:49:00):
It is THE a Team Sports talk seven ninety as
we approach the final hour of the program and our
final chance to dissect preview talk about and just get
you a little bit closer To Texans New. England and
you did bring up something that it's, obvious but we
haven't talked about it all this. Week they'll know who
they're going to be playing and where they'll be playing
(01:49:22):
them if they can win that game going into, kickoff
which you're, Like i'm sure.
Speaker 1 (01:49:27):
They won't be paying, attention but we all know they will. Be,
yeah and the same holds For New. England New england
knows they've got a home. Game if the same thing plays,
out both teams go To. Denver If denver, wins both
teams get to stay at home or play at home
If buffalo, Wins so it definitely is of. Note, again
whether it's on, THERE i think it's very easy for
it not to be on their minds Come. Sunday, yeah
(01:49:50):
but obviously they're going to know about it Game. Saturday
they'll fly up there or they'll sit around their house
after whatever it is they have responsibilities for if they're
a patriot and, that, yeah they'll know everything about, it
and then they'll know what's in f front of. Them
and what's more important is what's immediately in front of.
Them that's the team they're waiting. For talking about that
is very simply one of the things that was presented
(01:50:10):
Of Will anderson earlier this week about him being. Ready
are you excited for? It safe to, say, yeah he can't. Wait,
yes a blessing to be back.
Speaker 4 (01:50:18):
HERE i know the. Team today after, PRACTICE i was,
like being in a sack round is not good enough
for this. Organization no more like when we were, down
it's like we. Insect now it's about getting over that.
Home BUT i think this week the preparation has been.
Great everybody's been locked in and everybody know the focus
and the mission that we're trying to. Accomplish so we've
had a great week of, practice, man AND i can't
wait to get The.
Speaker 1 (01:50:36):
Sunday they were disappointed that they didn't beat The Kansas
City chiefs last, year disappointed that they went to play
a game they didn't. Win they will be crushed if
they don't win On. Sunday they will be. Devastated they
will feel like an opportunity has slipped through their fingers
to win The Super. Bowl AND i do not believe
(01:50:56):
that was the thought last. Year they know they can
beat The, chiefs they know they could beatn them that.
Day they know a couple of things went against. Them
they know they weren't the, favorite they know where they
were the year. Before all that thing went into. It
BUT i keep saying, it AND i keep hearing from.
Them that drives home the point even. More it is.
Different this team is. Different they feel, different they played,
Different they believe, different that more is in store for
them right, now the first to do. It they want
(01:51:20):
to be the first to do. It they want to
do this for you know who's been a part of it,
Before demiko being a part of the franchise, Obviously but
what they can do because of who has never seen
it happen. Before that's everybody, else. Everybody that's everybody that
lined up to help send them off last week and
the same. People they are going to do it tomorrow
with The sunday. Game they're flying out. Tomorrow all the
(01:51:43):
barricades were up out by the bull out there On
murworth And kirby where they will leave the building in
front of their adoring. Fans they talked about. It it was,
cool and they want to do it for. Them As
anderson echoed earlier this, week.
Speaker 4 (01:51:56):
Well you know how crazy the city go, go but
it's measures to sment to. Them many come, out they
show us so much, love so much, support and we
just want to do something that's never been done for this.
City man to Get houston on. Fire and they've been
unbelievable for us all season, long and we just want
to do something special for.
Speaker 2 (01:52:10):
Them there was a lot of looking back nostalgia wise
after this victory because of who it was, against because
of what city it came, in and BECAUSE i can't
remember the last time A houston team Played pittsburgh in the,
postseason WHERE i don't even say it meant that. Much
every game means a lot in the. Postseason BUT i
bring all this up to SAY i was Showing teresa the.
(01:52:36):
Rally she's From Kansas city and she just doesn't pay
attention to this.
Speaker 1 (01:52:41):
Stuff. Anyways most of the, TIME i, said look at.
This this is.
Speaker 2 (01:52:44):
About fifty thousand people in The astrodome to welcome them
home after a loss for a second straight year in
THE Afc. Championship AND i started asking myself this. Question
i'll ask you, now would that ever happen today in
twenty twenty six for any, team not just The oilers
(01:53:08):
at a time in the late seventies where there's only
three channels to watch and all that kind of.
Speaker 1 (01:53:11):
Stuff what we've seen a few, times relatively, recently teams
that have had very little success and all of a,
sudden it all comes together and that has some sort
of magical run that maybe ends a little, early whether
it was you, know a wild card game or the
whatever round of the. Playoffs we've seen fans at the,
airport you, know lining the chain link fences as they get,
off or at the stadium awaiting their arrival after something incredibly.
(01:53:35):
Disappointing it's the numbers THAT i Think you're having a
hard time rationalizing the number of fans at an event like,
that welcoming them back at the, airport welcoming them back
at the. Facility this Is.
Speaker 2 (01:53:46):
Houston who can't get to any game on time ever since, Then, right.
Speaker 1 (01:53:50):
So now you're talking about welcoming them back at a
fifty plus thousand seat, stadium and that's just NOT.
Speaker 2 (01:54:00):
I think the most overlooked aspect of that, again seminole
cultural event In houston, history not sports, history city. History
there were cars lining up along the freeway from the
airport to the. DOME i, mean it wasn't just this was,
like this was the equivalent of like a presidential parade
motor k type, thing only you, know, well you, know
(01:54:23):
we do it right.
Speaker 1 (01:54:24):
Here, yeah it was. Funny got, hurt nobody got, hurt
nobody got. HURT i didn't realize those would ever be brought.
TOGETHER i can do, anything but they. Were The texans
playing The steelers was the fifth time they franchises had
played each. Other four of those five times it Was
houston Versus. Pittsburgh tennessee Played pittsburgh in the. Playoffs once
(01:54:47):
The boilers Played pittsburgh in the. Playoffs three different, times
and was the last of which in nineteen seventy. Nine,
no that was the first, time or the seventy nine.
Season was the nineteen eighty, game the twenty seven to
thirteen game we referenced all the time leading into last.
Week played The steelers the year before thirty four to.
Five played The steelers that year we're talking. About they
lost twenty seven to. Thirteen they played them almost ten years.
(01:55:08):
Later The oilers and The steelers meant in the. Playoffs
it WAS i think it. WAS i think it Was
New Year's eve in nineteen following the eighty nine. Season
and then obviously this last Game sunday Between houston And
Pittsburgh titans met.
Speaker 2 (01:55:21):
Him that was a playoff, Game december thirty. First, yeah, okay,
wow imagine. That, well they playing a playoff game before
the countdar in the.
Speaker 1 (01:55:30):
Shorter there were no bye weeks, YET i don't believe.
So still a sixteen week season, though sixteen game. Season
but it also. HAPPENS i, THOUGHT i, think If i'm
not correct, incorrect sixteen straight weeks.
Speaker 2 (01:55:40):
Full it must have been unremarkable since we never talked about,
IT i.
Speaker 1 (01:55:43):
Mean we don't talk much about you, Know, yes this
was a wild card.
Speaker 2 (01:55:47):
Game i'll tell YOU i thought about you, KNOW i
wore those colors On, monday OR i mean On tuesday
after the win. Intentionally BUT i could have worn something.
ELSE i could have Worn ah a number One Warren moon,
jersey but that wouldn't have made sense because he wasn't
a part of. That he didn't come around until. Later
(01:56:08):
but even IF i, HAD i don't own An Earl campbell.
One but even IF i had worn, THAT i just
it feel Like i'm wearing A titans, jersey you. Know
and so that's WHY i went with the Technically rockets
basketball hoodie that said H town.
Speaker 1 (01:56:20):
On it got the COLORS i needed in. There, yeah
to What will's talking about is WHY i, really, honestly
And demiko's probably somewhere in the middle of this thought
for the players on the, team because they're Not houstonians
and they didn't play, here they know the fans forever
many years they've Been texans. Players he knows much more than,
that and he knows franchise. History feels franchise. History i'm
(01:56:44):
sure even the day he spoke To cal And hannah
and everybody else in the organization during interview number, one
this came, UP i want this franchise to do something
they've ever done, before and that's WHAT i intend to do.
Speaker 2 (01:56:56):
Here and they talked about it the, Podcast, yeah which
by the, way will be the same broadcast since it's ON, espn.
Speaker 1 (01:57:01):
That is, correct same, crews Back football at, Five so
obviously more of this. CONVERSATION a specific area of concern
for The texans is what tell you?
Speaker 2 (01:57:11):
Next it's the final hour of the week here on
THE A Teams Horse talk seven Ninety Space City Home,
Network Texans. Patriots the countdown continues in. Earnest we will
get through two Games, saturday and Then sunday afternoon two
o'clock we'll start fighting. Out it's The texans really will
(01:57:36):
host THE Afc championship game coming up on the following.
Weekend but you mentioned going into the, break there was
an aspect of what was? It? Will was It Demiko
ryans The? Uts going into the? BREAK i already. Forgot
what'd you?
Speaker 1 (01:57:50):
Say what do they need to be concerned?
Speaker 3 (01:57:52):
With?
Speaker 4 (01:57:53):
Um?
Speaker 1 (01:57:55):
Nothing they're. Fine then it's nothing because now there's nothing to,
Say Drake, may it's completely. Unconcerned this is a slam,
dunk a non competitive football, game guaranteed, victory totally, overrated completely,
useless bunch Of. PATRIOTS i didn't say, it you. Did
it's over. Man why we spent a whole week analyzing
this one sided? Matchup, yes totally. Unconcerned, now we actually
(01:58:20):
brought this aspect up many, times and it played out
many times that The texans are going to line up
against The patriots And Stefan diggs And, Hunter henry And
stevenson And Travon, henderson they're gonna call their, plays they're
gonna run their, routes and they're gonna get their, handoffs
and it's gonna be tackle for, loss and it's gonna
be a player covered and nowhere to go with the.
(01:58:41):
Football And Will anderson and D Neil hunter are gonna
just they're gonna be in the backfield all. Day they're
gonna be nowhere to. Go and Then Drake may is
gonna run for thirteen yards and they're gonna move the.
Chains there's gonna be third and five and everybody's covered
And Drake may sees the pocket just completely collapse on.
Him he fights off an arm tackle and runs for eight.
Yards they move the chains. Again this is for Real that,
(01:59:05):
is to, me the number one biggest. Concern he's probably
gonna complete a deep ball or. TWO i think that's gonna.
Happen i'm not concerned about. IT i just think that's
something that's gonna be a part of the. GAME i
don't think it's something that will lead them to two
great touchdown throws or oh my, god they just had
a seventy five yard pass because you, know he got
Behind Kamari lasser And Kaylyn bullock was had no eye
(01:59:27):
discipline and was looking the other way and got a
late break on the, ball and there's a seventy five
yard touchdown and The texans are in the. Hole what
is unexpected and what can? BE i think if they
do the right things and stay true with their integrity
and in their rush lanes and not over zealous with
trying to deliver Some i've got the quarterback in my
sights And i'm gonna go all gung ho after, him
(01:59:48):
AND i get clipped and now there's a huge rush
lane and nobody out. There they don't need a, SPY
i don't, think AND i don't think they're gonna go
that route. EITHER i think that's more changing what they do.
That they don't need. To it's Not Lamar, jackson it's
not Some it's just not like. That Drake may's gonna
get his eight carries after he drops, back after he
(02:00:09):
looks things over on a pass play and just doesn't
have anywhere to go with, it and the last thing
that is covered, up, well then he decides to. Run
they do play a lot of man, coverage AND i
do think that is a lot of what ails them
in stopping quarterbacks from running against. Them your back just
might be turned and when the quarterback recognizes that you
get one good, block all of a, sudden a five
six yard run could absolutely be a twenty plus yard.
(02:00:31):
Run two plays in particular standout from the, season and
we brought him up already this. Week you, know it's
fourth and ten against The. Bucks you're winning games Over
if you make the, play they don't, convert you run
the clock, out you get your first win of the.
Year Monday Night football open up the season one and
one and you go from. There instead it's fourth and.
Ten Henry toatoa comes guns blazing into the backfield season,
(02:00:51):
opening believes he's gonna have a kill, shot a clean
shot On Baker mayfield just doesn't and it's kind of
runs right by. Him Baker mayfield your runs up the
field and goes, left then goes, right then gets the first,
down and they complete the drive a few plays later
score a. Touchdown beat you and you're playing The. Broncos
you had the, Lead you've LOST. Cj, Stroud you're trying
(02:01:12):
to keep The broncos off the board late in the,
game and they send a lot of guys deep down
the field and most of The texans defensive players and
coverage have their backs to the play and Bo nick
sees there is so MUCH nrg stadium grass in front of.
Him he takes. OFF i think it called a thirty
two yard run, yesterday it was actually a twenty five yard.
Run and then when that play, happens the game essentially
(02:01:33):
is over unless they miss a short ish. Kick and
it's because you did not have the right kind of
discipline On it's not. Easy it is somewhat of a broken.
Play what is the goal of that? Play put pressure
on the quarterback and cover and they did both of those,
things and then he LIKE i Think drake may will
do LIKE i Think Justin herbert did to them in
(02:01:54):
the game against The Chargers Chargers. TEXANS i Think Pat
mahomes has done it for years against The, texans even this.
Year it's. Difficult it's what makes good quarterbacks who are
also good at throwing the football and churning. Up it's
tough because they're still skilled enough athletic enough to make you.
Pay drake may probably came into the league as one
of the more underrated. Athletes that's a, big, tall white
(02:02:16):
quarterback For North. Carolina he's a pocket. Passer if he
doesn't throw us to beat, us he won't beat. US
i think people learn very quickly in his rookie season
and now more so this. Season he's gonna go over
a thousand yards a couple games into next. Year as a,
rusher it is to me the number one concern because
it just extends drives or it puts them in scoring
(02:02:37):
position when otherwise you've gotten it. DONE i visualize these
plays happening on third and, seven on third and. Eleven
you've succeeded on first, down you've succeeded on second. Down
you've put him in an obvious passing, situation and then
he runs for the first.
Speaker 2 (02:02:51):
Down all, RIGHT i have a concern that Involves Drake
may as.
Speaker 1 (02:02:56):
Well may is a much more nefarious.
Speaker 2 (02:02:59):
Sinister you Mentioned Will anderson talking about how crushing it
was last season after they lost that game In Kansas.
City what was one of the number one things that.
Speaker 1 (02:03:13):
Helped that?
Speaker 2 (02:03:13):
Along AND i do mean that WHEN i say help
that Along Kansas city. Advancing Will anderson got to the
quarterback And Will anderson stopped them on third down and
then a flag was.
Speaker 1 (02:03:24):
DROPPED i, know and everybody saw.
Speaker 2 (02:03:27):
It And i'm still shocked sitting here right now several
days later that they Hit Aaron rodgers in the face
on that play where they just hit him in the,
face they hit him in the, Head they hit.
Speaker 1 (02:03:37):
Him in the back of the. Head they did not
hit him in the. Face they hit the back of his.
Helmet they hit him in the. Head though that was
a flag worthy, play, yep and instead it was a
touchdown for The. Texans you think THE nfl doesn't want
to Give Drake may and The patriots every benefit of
the doubt if you get to him and you breathe on.
HIM i got a bad feeling about. That at tell,
(02:04:00):
me why tell our listeners why this Is Drake may
second year quarterback of A New England patriots. Team why
why would they want? That because it's The New England.
Patriots it's the Not Tom, brady Not Bill, belichick run
of the middle team that plays In. Boston it's a.
Brand is it Is america deal to THE? NFL i think,
So Like Kansas, city, clearly isn't what you're. Saying they're
(02:04:21):
what happened because they Were Pat mahomes. Team they were
they became well everybody loves watching them play based on the,
Ratings So i'd love for them to keep. Playing and
how do you get to that? Point, well that's WHAT i.
Mean New england clearly isn't, That and you're not saying
that they. Are you're saying it's the it's the name
on the, jersey it's the city that they, play and
it's some of their team's. History but they're also playing
(02:04:42):
in THIS Afc Divisional round game for the first time
since following the twenty eighteen.
Speaker 2 (02:04:46):
Season if it's third and even seven and The texans
defense makes the play and then some crappy flag comes
in to extend the, DRIVE i just don't want that.
Speaker 1 (02:04:56):
HAPPENING i want the players to decide is it more
about it could be Anybody you're, SAYING i don't want
to flag against The texans defense playing insert. Team why
is The patriots really Different Kansas? City, clearly, Yes the
answer is they were. Different we all felt they were
officiated in a way that made it hard for you
to beat. Them Is New england gonna get that kind
(02:05:19):
of benefit of the doubt in year one Of Drake
May Mike rabel making the playoffs because of their, city
because of their, past because THE nfl and, MARKETS i
mean they sell The Super bowl viewing off of the.
Event carolina can play in the freaking Super bowl and
they're gonna it's gonna be highly. Viewed it doesn't matter
who's in the, game as long as they're playing The.
Speaker 2 (02:05:40):
Patriots, see you wouldn't let that one. Go that was
the matchup, here by the, WAY i just. DO i,
Yes i'll say.
Speaker 1 (02:05:48):
It it's not even a.
Speaker 2 (02:05:49):
CONSPIRACY i think THE nfl would Prefer New england advance
To houston in this.
Speaker 1 (02:05:54):
MATCHUP i do because of all the recent.
Speaker 2 (02:05:56):
Success the casuals out there aren't gonna know it's Not Tom.
Speaker 1 (02:06:00):
Brady because The patriots recent, success, yeah which meaning they've
had some And houston hasn't and they're a brand, Well
texans have no success.
Speaker 2 (02:06:09):
Did patriots are the closest thing to a dynasty BECAUSE
i know THE i know THE i know The chiefs
have won the most, recently but The chiefs haven't done
this for two plus decades like The patriots. Did so
there's no better way to start the revival of The
patriots brand than to have them advanced this.
Speaker 1 (02:06:28):
WEEKEND i, mean that is straight off of A New
england radio station from a.
Speaker 2 (02:06:32):
Caller what you just. SAID i, know and it's. HAPPENING
i guarantee it's happening right now. NOW i mean it's six o'clock.
Speaker 1 (02:06:37):
THERE i just DON'T i would think that's NOT i,
MEAN i don't want to see it. EITHER i just
as ridiculous AS i know it.
Speaker 2 (02:06:45):
Sounds it's not the craziest thing in TODAY'S nfl and
in everything that goes into this.
Speaker 1 (02:06:52):
GAME i, mean i'd have to. LOOK i don't think
and last week's game is important because it happened and
it was not. Called AND i think the angle of
the hit when you hit a guy on the front
and his face mask hand right into a quarterback or
hand coming across his face like it did With mahomes last.
YEAR i think those are almost you don't have to call,
(02:07:13):
it but you're you're not going to miss seeing it
if you're an official coming from behind the quarterback hitting
him in the back of the. Head we had the
angle that showed his. Face the angle that the referee
was looking at was a black helmet being hit by
Will anderson's arm wrist. Hand it's not the. Same it
is easier to. MISS i don't know if the colors
(02:07:35):
of this helmet's this week or anything has to do with.
IT i hope it. Doesn't but WHAT i was, SAYING
i need to LOOK i don't think of they don't
come to mind. IMMEDIATELY a bunch of for as often
as The texans were around the, quarterback sacks and, otherwise
there were maybe three roughing the passers this.
Speaker 2 (02:07:51):
Year, well The texans and their uber aggressive, defense which
WAS i, MEAN i don't want to say it was
just as aggressive last year because it wasn't as, historical
but they did their job in that game and it
didn't matter because the officials, said, no this drive is
going to continue for The Kansas City, chiefs and it
was far less egregious contact Against Patrick mahomes in those
(02:08:13):
plays that were flagged than what we saw Against Aaron.
Speaker 1 (02:08:15):
Rodgers that's WHY i brought that. Up one roughing the
passer penalty this. Year that was. It it's all the second.
Speaker 2 (02:08:21):
Seriously ye all year, long they've had one roughing the
passer who wasn't on Will, No, Daniel, Daniel, no.
Speaker 1 (02:08:30):
He's not playing this. Week i'm telling.
Speaker 5 (02:08:32):
You the eight On Sports talk seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (02:08:38):
Is The Autobotive.
Speaker 2 (02:08:39):
Show when you can get two things you love and
kind of just make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich
out of, them you gotta do. It and having gone
there last, year you went last, year why didn't we go,
Together why didn't you call?
Speaker 1 (02:08:52):
Me we're not really. Friends we just pretend like we
are on the. Show that's. TRUE i actually hate. You
The Autobotive show is. Back it's. Awesome we got tickets to.
It we've been giving away all. Week we'll do so
again in the final segment of the. Show it is
the twenty eighth Of january Through. February, first of, course
it's over AT Nrg. Center we've got four pack of
tickets to the, Event so listen to the. Show that's
(02:09:14):
how we give tickets. Away you guys have listened to
the show for so. Long we love you for. It
and even, today something that we will be discussing or
maybe have already discussed that will be some information you
need to. Know final segment will ask you about, it
and because you're, listening you'll know the. Answer you'll be
able to win the.
Speaker 2 (02:09:30):
Tickets, yeah it's, fantastic especially if you got the little
little ones that like to crawl all over really cool looking.
Things Because i'll never forget the look on the face
of the elderly lady When carson hit the horn on
one of those expensive.
Speaker 1 (02:09:47):
Yachts, yeah the cars, there they have horns, too she. Yachts,
yeah they boat, horns yacht. Horns a little bit. More
i'm gonna get everybody's. Attention they get your attention on the.
Water he can get your intention Inside Energy center just the.
Speaker 2 (02:10:03):
Same did you know we were talking earlier about why
The titans were so BAD i mean this, year well
just in. General you were talking about When Mike vrabel
was coaching, there And i'm sure he has fond memories
of them not winning games with talent and then them
trading said talent away.
Speaker 1 (02:10:23):
Well he probably also remembers fondly that they. Were weren't
they one win away from The Super?
Speaker 2 (02:10:30):
Bowl? Oh is that when they still Had Derrick Henry
and who is their? Quarterback what's his face? Again what's his?
Speaker 1 (02:10:36):
Face? Tannehill was that his first?
Speaker 2 (02:10:37):
Name? Yeah he was like Their Peyton manning that, year
only not as. Good they were winning in spite of
him throwing. Ducks he was like Their Peyton manning's not as.
Good so he played. Quarterback well year, there that's where they.
Were they were one win. Shy they'd only won nine
games that.
Speaker 1 (02:10:53):
Year he followed that up with eleven wins and twelve
wins and then back to back seasons of non winning,
seasons and they said you're. Gone it was clearly the
players they didn't. Have they didn't have good. Players they
have good players In New. England they're. Winning they had
good players when he got To tennessee and he got,
them helped them get to that. STAGE i, Mean Jamaico
ryans has coached zero games In houston without WHAT i
(02:11:15):
would call good, players even the games THAT cj missed
both in any of the years you're talking.
Speaker 2 (02:11:20):
About, WELL i mentioned that talent either just wasn't in,
place or in the case of Aj, brown it was traded.
Elsewhere so he went To, philadelphia won A Super bowl
his first, year correct his first year, there it was
his second, YEAR i can't, remember don't, know it was
early in his.
Speaker 1 (02:11:38):
Tenure there.
Speaker 2 (02:11:40):
Sixty seven passes for one thousand and seventy eight yards
and seven. Touchdowns that was his numbers from a year.
Ago he got seventy eight passes for one thousand and
three yards and seven touchdowns this. Year and the two
seasons could not be more, different both for the. TEAM i,
mean they made the, postseason but no one was really
(02:12:01):
fearing The eagles going into the. Playoffs like last. Season
eagles were a juggernaut last. Year this year just another
playoff team won and. Done and now they're already having
to deal with trade. Rumors and by, DAY i Mean Howie.
Roseman now we sat here in these chairs and said
he's the best gym in football a year, ago and he,
(02:12:23):
was like everything he touched turned to gold a year.
Ago it turns, out when Signing Saquon barkley and just
giving him the ball a, lot that's really good for your.
Speaker 1 (02:12:31):
Offense BUT i did it this year and it wasn't
nearly as good. EXACTLY i JUST i don't. KNOW i
don't know what's going on.
Speaker 2 (02:12:39):
There but he's going on the record as SAYING i
want to keep him talking ABOUT Aj. Brown but everywhere you,
look and this is up to an Including AJ's kind
of demonstrative reactions on the sideline and all that kind of,
STUFF i can't believe. It but like it feels like
he wants out Of. Philadelphia you, AGREE i.
Speaker 1 (02:13:03):
Mean he's said publicly, otherwise and that was during the.
SEASON i think how What Howie roseman said was WHAT
i would want MY gm to say.
Speaker 2 (02:13:11):
Publicly it's hard to find great players in THE. NFL
aj is a great. Player it's very.
Speaker 1 (02:13:15):
Diplomatic well not only, That, yeah we would like we
need to see what we should. Do maybe it's in.
EVERYBODY i don't think you want to put that out
there like that and kind of make it seem, like,
yeah you're looking to trade, him so you're desperate to move,
him so our offer doesn't need to be necessarily what
it should. Be he's a little bit, older not too,
old been there four. Years here's their. Problem they know
(02:13:39):
they should be a better team because he's on the.
Team they weren't very good this year. Offensively they were
below average offense With, Hertz, Barkley, Smith Goddard, brown banged
up offensive, line but still good players and Just statlin's
a great example of everything we keep talking. About, man
he's the best offensive line coach in THE. Nfl not
(02:14:00):
as good when the players aren't as good or all.
Hurt that has something to do with, It BUT i
don't want to turn it into. That whether they move
him or, not whether he wants to be moved or,
not AND i would think he does Because i'm sure he,
believes like many receivers, DO i just should be a
bigger part of the team's. Offense AND i was just
one of the pieces. Here was great when we were
winning Big but he could. See he was probably the
(02:14:22):
first to really be clear about the riding on the
wall for their. Season this isn't going. Well we're not
flipping the. Switch we're not about to be a threat
in THE. Nfc we were gonna win our division because
the three other teams. Stink that's. It he saw. It
he kind of let everybody else into that, picture and
he was totally. Right all with relatively the same players
(02:14:43):
they've won the division three times at four, years they've
been to the Super bowl three times in four. Years
they don't look like a Super bowl team heading into this,
offseason so they're probably in his mind and his agent's,
mind maybe there's a better opportunity in what might be
the last TIME i have a chance to, say all,
right you want, me let's do it and pay, me
and then that's that last big. CON i don't know
(02:15:05):
what you get for a receiver like this when you're moving.
Him we've seen some older receivers get moved for very
Little Steph diggs as an example of that a couple
of years ago To. Houston that was a. Trade Aj
brown probably is viewed as someone who could be one
hundred and ten, catch fourteen hundred yard wide receiver in
a seventeen game, season but he hasn't, been probably due
(02:15:26):
to the offense that they're running.
Speaker 2 (02:15:27):
There and by the, way since we're talking, about you,
know stars on that side of the football for The,
eagles have you seen more than one whisper out there
talking About Jalen hurts and his. ABILITY i am shocked
at how the bloom has fallen off the, rose if you,
(02:15:47):
will For jalen hurts after what he did last. Season
it's a season to season. Thing did he have a
good Year he did, Not, yeah but it's they're acting
like he is he forgot how to play.
Speaker 1 (02:15:58):
Football. Well they didn't win any playoff. Games they were
in The Super bowl last. Year it's not obviously all on.
Him we mentioned some of the other issues that they.
Have they. Won they had a relatively similar regular season
the last three years they've won with him starting, eleven,
twelve and. Eleven it's. Similar he's not gonna throw for
four thousand. Yards they don't ask him. To they don't
(02:16:19):
run that kind of. Offense they just weren't Very they
were definitely, inconsistent and just the bottom line was as an,
offense which he was out there for all but one
game during the meat of the schedule he ended up
playing or just one game. Period they just weren't very.
Good they had a hard time scoring. Points he had
a five turnover game this year and a game they
(02:16:39):
should have easily won he nearly did his fifth interceptions
the only reason they lost. It it felt.
Speaker 2 (02:16:45):
Turnover it felt like something was up with their, offense
like every single week they fired their oc that's step. One, yeah,
yeah but the SAME oc that they won.
Speaker 1 (02:16:57):
With, NO i don't think. So so when did they fire? Him,
WELL i think this was his year there.
Speaker 2 (02:17:06):
Because the last one got hired away after The Super.
Bowl he was THEIR oc just this. Year he was
on staff prior to this. Year, okay who was THEIR
oc before? Prior Kellen, moore that's, right, okay.
Speaker 1 (02:17:20):
And he went he went. Elsewhere he went to coach The.
SAINTS i totally forgot about. That so he got set
in motion When Bird Gang guy And Shane steikin left
from Their Super bowl. Team, yeah, YEAH i Mean Kellen
moore is AN, oc is a great, hire and he
was on staff for those two, years but he's was
going to be a head coach and that's why he.
Speaker 2 (02:17:39):
Left at least one team has already asked permission to
Interview Matt.
Speaker 1 (02:17:43):
Burke. YEAH i think getting him as a having him
call plays as successfully as he. Did, again they have great,
players AND i think he orchestration really nice looks that
he should get credit, for and he absolutely should be
considered that it's what happens when you, win is what
happens when you're side of the football performs the way they.
Did he's actually been around probably longer than people. Realize
(02:18:04):
he's been on a handful of staffs around the league
before even arriving In. Houston AND i think it's outstanding
for him that he's spent three years With Demiko, ryans
even Though jamiko is you, know has less experience and is.
Younger but his time In New york With Robert, SALA
i think matters because he was More he was like
(02:18:24):
the coaching the direct coaching assistant For sala on game
day and making everything work like that for. Him then
he was In arizona for a couple of. Years he's
with The eagles before. That So i'm hopeful that he
has to figure out a good time to go on
an interview while he's preparing for The Buffalo bills or
The Denver. Bryants it's the halfway point of the final
hour of the. Program so some items we might not
(02:18:46):
have discussed and deserve our, attention or things we need to,
Revisit stieford case you missed. It one thing quite obviously
we need to revisit briefly is the injury situation for
both The texans and The. Patriots their injury report following
their final practice of the, week obviously released much earlier this,
afternoon very little consequence for The New England. Patriots Christian
(02:19:07):
gonzales no injury, designation was able to hit the practice
field all three days this, week despite entering the week
and concussion protocol is not TECHNICALLY i don't think been
announced to be out of, it but there's no injury.
Designation he will be available To Mike rabel this. Week
Harold landry is listed, questionable one of their players on the,
edge so see what his status turns out to be
(02:19:27):
come ninety minutes before kickoff for The, texans as we
suspected it would be based on what we've seen at
practice each of the last three, days including inside the
stadium earlier, today there was No Nico, collins there was
No Justin, watson both in concussion protocol and both have
been officially mabeled as out for the. Game Trent brown
ankle injury has him. Questionable leaves The texans with two.
(02:19:50):
Options If Trent brown, goes then they run out the
same five offensive linemen that performed very well throughout the
year and took every snap and performed very well against
The Pittsburgh. Steelers If Trent brown's questionable turns into, inactive,
well they will Push Titus howard back out to. Tackle
he'll be the starting right, tackle AND i would Assume
Jarrett patterson would take his place on the interior pair
(02:20:12):
with Ed ingram as the guards along With Tay ursery
And Jake. Andrews not ideal in both. Cases, now you'd
have two significant misses on offense With nico being out
and Potentially. Brown BUT i do Believe brown will be
active starting and barring future issue or just pain, intolerance
be available like you did last, week to take every single.
(02:20:33):
Snap Sam darnold injury an interesting. ONE i want you
to say this SO i can react to. It what
do you know About seattle situation going into this, Game, Josh.
Speaker 6 (02:20:44):
Yeah it looks like With donald they're gonna see how
he moves around and kind of let him go and,
practice and if everything works, out they're going to start.
Him but the fact that they're Saying Drew locke is
ready should we need, him so Obviously texans are not
the only team dealing with some injury concerns heading in this.
Speaker 1 (02:21:00):
Weekend Drew lock is ready to. Go Drew, Lock, Now
Drew lock's one of his finest. Moments something That texans
fans will never forget was destroying The texans As broncos
quarterback in the first.
Speaker 2 (02:21:16):
Half why was that so? Important say that? Again Drew,
lock quarterback.
Speaker 1 (02:21:21):
Of The broncos AT Nrg, stadium absolutely destroyed The texans
in the first.
Speaker 2 (02:21:27):
Half why was that so important for the future of The.
Texans was that THE us suck two? Game of course
it was the suck two. Game.
Speaker 1 (02:21:36):
Wow walking off The Long ago into the, Tunnel DeAndre
hopkins helping to Guide bill O'Brien out Of he was
trying to help the. Guy they also had security. There
brent was there with, him But bill had some things to.
Say Drew lock and his team came to town and
they embarrassed The texans that. Day he's played For. Denver
(02:21:57):
obviously they had high hopes for him as a young.
Player didn't work out there a couple stops In seattle
now And New york in. Between just a quick question for, You.
Josh you've been pretty good on our stone cold locks
hovering around five, hundred AND i believe you have the
intel for an answer like. This The seahawks are seven
point Favorites Sam donald starting. Quarterback If Sam donald was
(02:22:21):
labeled out before the postseason, began even with the week,
off and we all Knew Drew lock was, starting Including
vegas and their odds, makers what's the line on this? Game?
Who i'm thinking it's closer to four or.
Speaker 2 (02:22:38):
Three do you think The seahawks at home as the
number one seed with a week off Starting Drew lock
would still be better than a field goal favor over The.
Speaker 6 (02:22:45):
NINERS i think it'd be right AROUND i think three.
Half donald's worth three or four points in my.
Speaker 1 (02:22:50):
Opinion All, RIGHT i was thinking he was worth more
considering the drop off To, drew BUT i think the
way this team was, Built josh is probably.
Speaker 6 (02:22:58):
Right what else do we? Have, yeah a lot of
a baseball news to get To Kyle. Tucker you guys
hit on it, earlier BUT i think it's worth going
back To Kyle tucker to The. Dodgers WHAT i found
interesting is in this world of opt, outs he's able
to opt out after season two and season three of this,
deal so he might be on The bregman play in
a couple of years And lock in a long term.
Speaker 1 (02:23:19):
Contract so he's coming off of a not very successful health.
Year he was pretty he was off his second consecutive. Year,
okay you laid it all, out so is he and his.
Agent they're just basically, saying go play two healthy years IN.
La you're gonna have postseason, baseball so you might be
able to write that part of your, resume which is an,
ideal and you're gonna play a lot of games that
(02:23:39):
everybody's gonna. See you're gonna play in high profile. Games
you got all this protection in the batting. Order go
out and hit eight fifty nine hundred, ops have your
thirty homer, season drive in one hundred runs if there's
enough people still on base after everybody else drove them,
in and then get paid a second year to not
play and still be young enough to actually get the
long term deal because again two years from, NOW i
(02:24:01):
can't opt out after this, year but you can't after the.
Speaker 2 (02:24:03):
Second you, know what's interesting about that scenario you're laying
out is that if indeed there is a locked out
season in twenty twenty, seven and by the, way if
they don't play for twenty twenty, seven they're just assuming
they're going to, well they'll have a deal done by
twenty twenty.
Speaker 1 (02:24:18):
EIGHT i don't know that they, will like people.
Speaker 2 (02:24:22):
ARE i think they're really sleeping on how bad this
is gonna, be because what this has done is just.
Magnify like you, said it's exposed the system that.
Speaker 1 (02:24:34):
Is flawed in a very very bad.
Speaker 2 (02:24:36):
Way and it's going to call for owners demanding a
salary cap and or floor and the players saying, nay
and they're gonna just do that for like a year.
Speaker 1 (02:24:49):
Minimum, yeah this is a big one because of the
magnitude of the, year of the amount per year pushing
sixty million per, year and he has the opportunity to
say to the. League depending on how what you said played,
out like two years from, now he's gonna, SAY i
don't want my fifty seven point one million per year
BECAUSE i can get that's. All he's gonna have one
(02:25:09):
hundred and fourteen million dollars guaranteed the final two years
fifty seven and fifty, seven and he's gonna say no
to that because that long term, deal just Like bregman.
Did and he'll be a little like we, said he'll be.
Younger he didn't get it this. Time this Doesn't this
is a four year, deal. Max it's almost sixty PER
i can't imagine how much more is out there for.
Speaker 2 (02:25:28):
Him climate is not going to be ripe to opt
out and ask for more money fresh off a year
you didn't play as a.
Speaker 1 (02:25:35):
League in my, opinion, yeah that's no. Question it's the.
Case probably should mention two other, deals you, Know Kyle
tucker and is one of the big. Deals Boba schett
now has a sizeable. Deal although interesting how he got,
there IF i have this. Correct The phillies thought he
was ready to sign with, them and then The mets
came in with A bregman deal forty two million per
(02:25:57):
year for three years with the opt, Outs so he
took it three, years one hundred and twenty six million
to go play there. Instead his act.
Speaker 2 (02:26:04):
Would have been much more suitable For philly because he's
a Huge Delta bravo because of his haircut previously get,
UP i.
Speaker 1 (02:26:13):
Couldn't he's a totally fine player with no exactly, Right, no, no,
no he's totally. Fine he's just kind of kicking this.
Guy what did he? Do he's the least likable member
of a very Likable Blue. Gas it was very. Low
he played through, Pain he could barely move. Cares that
does nothing for. Me what did HE i must miss
the boat on On dante's kid being a D. B
(02:26:36):
i Love Vlad junior a lot coming from A. dB
how could he not? Be is that what you're trying to? Say? Yes?
Okay and the other signing Because philly lost out on.
That they just, said all, right we'll bring. J. T
railmuto back at fifteen mil per three, years forty five.
Million one other catcher signed this. Afternoon did you see that?
One not Yinor. Diaz, well he's under contract with The.
(02:26:56):
Astros they just don't know for how. Much his catch,
Mate Victor carrattini has a new home where he is
with The. Twins that's.
Speaker 2 (02:27:05):
Fine they did not Expect rangers wanted, him and that's
ALL i can.
Speaker 1 (02:27:10):
Did not expect to re sign. Him that's a big
loss for the for The, astros big opening for a
sysrselves Ar.
Speaker 2 (02:27:17):
Well he won't have anybody to cross him up and
knock his chest out.
Speaker 1 (02:27:20):
Fromber he's wearing a chest. Protector that's.
Speaker 5 (02:27:24):
It the a On Sports talk seven, Ninety.
Speaker 1 (02:27:32):
Hey as Coach.
Speaker 3 (02:27:33):
Udoka here Every rockets game On Sports talk and on
The iHeartRadio App home Of Your.
Speaker 1 (02:27:43):

all of our predictions on the four games that'll get
played before they revisit with you On. Monday we'll get
Our National title game predictions in when the time comes On,
monday Before indiana And. Miami we've got TWO afc games
early Both saturday And, sunday TO nfc games Late saturday And,
(02:28:07):
sunday and of course The texans and the two o'clock
slot On sunday. Afternoon those TICKETS i mentioned because you've
been listening to the show so diligently, today you'll know
the answer to this question and you can call in
it seven one three two one two five seven ninety
with that answer to win tickets a four back of.
Tickets as a matter of. Fact two this year's twenty
twenty Six Houston Automotive, show both land and sea enthusiasts
(02:28:29):
well love. It we talked about it. Earlier we've been out.
There it is awesome auto and boat. Show january twenty
eighth Through february. First it's AT Nrg. Center you can
buy your tickets and get more information on the event
right there At Houston autoshow dot. Com but if you've
been listening to the, show you know the answer to
this very simple, question and you can call in. It
(02:28:49):
seven one three two one two five seven. Ninety what's the?
Speaker 2 (02:28:51):
Question so earlier we were talking about how awesomely, cool
amazing and all that kind of. Stuff, Uh Damiko ryans
is for a number of reasons on in off the,
field just great all around. Guy AND i mentioned several
social media, posts one of which was video floating around of.
Speaker 1 (02:29:08):
Him.
Speaker 2 (02:29:09):
UH i believe it was before the game started talking
to the chain game, guy older, gentleman and he had
been doing that gig for The Pittsburgh steelers for a
long long, time and he Told dimiko what year he
began doing.
Speaker 1 (02:29:27):
It what was that? Year, yeah he asked him how
long he'd been doing, it and he basically treated that
question like you're asking me how OLD i? Am, yeah well,
again but what he gave him since when he gave
him the year when he started doing, That and that's
what we're looking very. Clear seven one three two one
two five seven. Ninety nice little combo kind of the
(02:29:49):
fact That demiko's in that similar mode even though he
needs to be in coach mode at that. Time you
can see it before the game. Too and actually this particular,
game he conducted an all field interview during the. Game you,
know college coaches do that On, saturday like an hour
and ninety, minutes two hours before a. Game they're out
there walking the field and they'll they'll get miked up
and do. It he did this before The Steelers texans,
(02:30:11):
game a little bit closer to kickoff than. That not
usual for. Coaches, yeah being able to you, KNOW i got.
TIME i, Mean i'm here to shake hands with my
players and get them ready to, go and you, know
give them a little motivation and kind of check out the,
scene check out the, weather make sure everybody's on the
same page from an equipment, standpoint to be prepared for
what we have out. Here and it'll do the same
thing a little bit earlier in the day because they're
(02:30:34):
playing a two o'clock kick rather than a nighttime. Kick
and one aspect of This WE'VE i told you. Earlier
The texans are completely oblivious to. It they're going to be.
Cold how cold will it? Snow it's strictly an equipment.
Thing it's not we need to prepare for. This we
need to be concerned with. That it's maybe some teams.
Do some teams. Don't this team does. Not my guess
(02:30:57):
on the weather is the gloom and doom of a
white covered game is not what we're gonna. SEE i
really SHOULD i wish it. WERE i don't know. WHY
i just think it would be. FUN i think.
Speaker 2 (02:31:11):
For whatever reason and this this is completely stupid and
inaccurate and JUST i think it would be more satisfying
to win in a game like. THAT i mean maybe
from the standpoint of it's like it's it's gonna be in.
Lore remember when The texans finally broke through to get
to THE Afc. Championship, yeah they played in the snow
In New england and everybody was hyping Up Drake may
and then they murdered him right there on the. Field
(02:31:32):
it'd just be, better you, Know that's how people would say. It,
yeah those, people those, people you, know people here In
houston that are a football.
Speaker 1 (02:31:39):
Fans. YEAH i don't know if there will be a
little bit of a wintry, mix a little bit of
rain that based on the temperature is.
Speaker 2 (02:31:47):
Otherwise you, Know Drake may is not great in precipitation.
Speaker 1 (02:31:50):
Games just he's so inexperienced in. It and even going
back to. College there's just so few. Games he's so.
Inexperienced end of. Sentence, WELL cj is not that much more, experienced,
Right he's been a full time starter for three.
Speaker 2 (02:32:01):
Years may he's been a full time starter for one year.
Plus the you know played At ohio stated twenty cold.
Speaker 1 (02:32:06):
Weather it's IT'S i don't think if it's not, outrageous
it's not gonna. MATTER i don't believe we're gonna see outrageous.
Weather we're gonna see a high. Twenties take it a step.
Speaker 2 (02:32:19):
Further if the weather does impact this game that much
in one way or, ANOTHER i think that benefits The texans.
More all, right run through the other games real. Quick
so we got what's the first? One broncos And bills,
yep first game of the Day. Saturday i'm Taking buffalo
in a tight. ONE i think The denver defense shows,
(02:32:41):
up but their offense isn't quite enough to offset What
buffalo is still able to churn. OUT i Like Josh.
Allen i'm not gonna stop liking him. Now plus it
means The texans are.
Speaker 1 (02:32:50):
Hosting, YEAH i think The bills are just gonna find
a way, Right AND i Think Josh allen's gonna be
the driving. FORCE i Think James cook is gonna have
a much more significant role in this.
Speaker 2 (02:32:58):
Victory it's a to, me it's a similar matchup to
The texans in that, way it's just going to go
the opposite way as a, result in my. Opinion by the,
way activated in advance of this. Game At Oliver? Wow
fresh At oliver?
Speaker 1 (02:33:15):
Too, yes presumably as fresh in his. HEALTH i mean
he could. Be he's not really where we'd want it to.
Be if this was week before a week for.
Speaker 2 (02:33:24):
Sure what If Daniel hunter was hadn't played this whole
time and now they've activated him for this, game you
wouldn't be pumped about.
Speaker 1 (02:33:30):
That guy on your defense could be very. Pumped seahawks
And niners have the second game In.
Speaker 2 (02:33:35):
Seattle this is kind of, Like i'm not trying to
like duck out of, it BUT i who's playing? Quarterback
how AM i supposed to predict this?
Speaker 1 (02:33:45):
Game told you, earlier even if it Was Drew, locke
they'd still be almost a four point. Favorite that's his.
Opinion he's pretty.
Speaker 2 (02:33:50):
SMART i just think That San, francisco outside of their
game against The, texans kitt Lists, YEAH i, know but
they are, McCaffery are you?
Speaker 1 (02:34:00):
Full, yeah they.
Speaker 2 (02:34:01):
ARE i think they're, caffeinated they're. MACAFFEINATED i just think
they've been playing their best football this season right, now
and that's what you want to be. Doing and if
there's any sort of question mark, AROUND i, Know i'm
not gonna Get Fred warner and all that kind.
Speaker 1 (02:34:13):
Of, stuff but like they're playing their best.
Speaker 2 (02:34:17):
Football it is In, seattle but that's not like it's
an unfamiliar, place seeing as how it's a division.
Speaker 1 (02:34:21):
RIVAL i kind of feel like how you felt About.
Speaker 2 (02:34:24):
BUFFALO i FIND i feel like the forty nine ers
find a way to win this.
Speaker 1 (02:34:28):
ONE i think the forty nine ers cover and. Lose, okay,
fine ran on my. Parade the second game of the
Day sunday Is Bears. Rams bears are Home. Dogs The
bears have that magic thing going. On when's the last
time The bears were this far into the? Postseason?
Speaker 2 (02:34:48):
Forever that crowd with lovey and like remember Correct Jake
cutler probably all?
Speaker 1 (02:34:56):
Right Probably lease Smoking? Jay what was Maybe? Kyler Or?
Speaker 2 (02:35:02):
YEAH i THINK i think The bears are gonna pull
off the. UPSET i don't know WHY i think.
Speaker 1 (02:35:06):
THAT i Just Darnold, Purdy Stafford. Williams we talked about
the foursome in THE a. Line they're four and a
half point Favorites Matt Stafford's Road.
Speaker 2 (02:35:17):
Rams, YEAH i like The bears to pull off the.
UPSET i don't know. WHY i just got a gut
feeling about.
Speaker 1 (02:35:23):
It i'm gonna discount the Overwhelming oh my, God Matt
stafford in cold weather, Games i'm Gonna i'm gonna bypass
that information and think get The rams into an ALL
Nfc WEST nfc championship. Game all, right and now the
time has. Come, well we never gave you a, score
but obviously we gave you what we were. PLAYING i
think The texans are gonna, win. OBVIOUSLY i think they're gonna.
(02:35:45):
Cover also played the Over So i'm looking at twenty four,
seventeen twenty seven to twenty, one somewhere in that.
Speaker 2 (02:35:51):
Neighborhood twenty four to Twenty texans. Win like to see,
it would love to have. It we got astro line
coming your way. Next brian And brian will be with.
You That's brian Abre you And Brian.
Speaker 1 (02:36:01):
