Speaker 1 (00:00):
Taking you into the weekend, and it's gonna be a
good one. USC is in town. We will probably not
break down that fight unless you want to have fun
with real audio, and we play all of Sean Strickland's
press conference unedited. We'd probably lose our FCC license in
the first like ten seconds if we did that. But no,
we won't do that. We will get you ready for
(00:21):
another Rockets game out on the East Coast. They took
care of business last night, and I gotta tell you,
after watching that game, wex a couple things came to mind. One,
I have not been posting enough on my burner accounts.
That's what I thought. Number one and number two, man
if Katie wrote all that kind of stuff and it
(00:44):
was real, can you really blame him? I mean, I'm
not saying that he didn't have any help last night,
but I am saying that that probably wasn't albre and
Shingoun's best effort ever in the history of his career.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
Uh, that's probably true. He was fair right, Probably not
what I would take out of last night. No, no, no,
I'll tell you what I take guy last night. Number one,
first and foremost, Katie is ridiculous. I mean it wasn't fifty,
it wasn't sixty, what even forty. It was what they needed.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
It was what they needed, and it was just so efficient.
I mean I look up, I thought he had thirty one.
He actually had thirty five, and then I look at
the shooting and it's just like, what do he missed
six shots? Maybe five?
Speaker 3 (01:25):
Six?
Speaker 1 (01:26):
He was fourteen of twenty, wouldn't he Yeah, so he
missed six shots. He's just incredible. And it's like, is
it okay to simultaneously marvel at what he's doing, especially
at the age he's doing it, while also saying, hey, man,
he probably shouldn't have to be doing all this right
now just to bail you out against a shorthanded Charlotte
(01:47):
Hornet squad.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
I wouldn't say he bailed them out. He bailed himself out.
And he even has said so after the game, what
do you mean as soon as he came in the
game in the fourth quarter, they immediately went on a
run and cut into what was once an eleven point lee.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
He was well aware of it. Charlotte went on the run.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
Yes, yeah, they come, they built a double digit lead
without him. Yeah, it was very James Harden of him
against the Clippers well in the playoffs, scored the last
well they brought him back in the game. Man, I'm
amazed at how closely people watch this team. It's pretty
obvious that some of them on the Twitter sphere do
and yet see things very, very differently. The Rockets got,
(02:23):
obviously a lot from Kevin Durant Early had ten in
the first quarter, had ten in the final three minutes.
He was the only Rocket to score in the last
four and a half minutes. They did some things right.
They've played very good defense, and they also benefited from
a little bit from who they were playing. I think
he probably caught an off night with Brandon Miller. I
think they forced him into taking tough shots. But he's
(02:43):
probably not gonna have another night like that, maybe in
his entire career in terms of missing shots. You're gonna
see a ton of games like that from LaMelo though.
And that's the best part about playing the Hornets is
because you know that's gonna happen at some point. At
some point, he's going to try to shoot them out
of the game, and he did that last night. He
almost did that here in Houston. But too many of
his other teammates were playing well. It's I think Charles
(03:05):
Lee's done an awesome job with that team. I think
they've drafted well the last couple of years. I think
Brandon Miller is a good player. I think Konk Nipple
is an outstanding player. They obviously were missing two other starters.
They still put a pretty good product on the court.
Their roster has gotten significantly better. And you'd expect, especially
as they started playing good basketball, that kind of winning
(03:26):
basketball that LaMelo knows nothing about, it would rub off
on him.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
But he plays the same way.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
If you think just because you want to it's Friday,
anything goes Friday. If you want to bash Alpa and Shangoon, well,
LaMelo ball is the Alpera and Shangoon of the Hornets.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
Oh look, we're going to have a whole segment dedicated
to that jerk. Just well, I don't care about the
other stuff yet. Yeah, but if he sucks at basketball too,
then he did last night.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
He just needs to someone needs to coach him. That's
all there is to it. And I'm amazed this far
into his career it hasn't happened. Now that they have
a good team, I wondered if it would happen. I
think it will happen. Just silly shots. I mean, you
might think you can make it, and you might make it,
but you got four other teammates plus you can He
could have driven to the basket five hundred times last
night and he wouldn't have been stopped on any of them.
(04:12):
He might have missed, but he could have done whatever
he wanted. And he's just taking low percentage shots over
and over and over and over again. And that's what
coaching should get out of him if he can't figure
it out for himself. But we'll see Charlotte again until
next year's regular season. Probably will never see them in
the postseason. I don't expect the Hornets to be playing
for anything anytime soon. And I just said never, so
(04:32):
that's literal, that's never. I don't think they will ever
see the Hornets in the playoffs unless both Seattle and
Las Vegas pushed the Rockets to the Eastern Conference, which
I don't think is about to happen. I do think
they're going to join the NBA, and I do think
we're going to cease a little bit of shifting with
who's in the West and who's in the East. Just
don't think it's going to involve the Houston Rockets. But
(04:52):
they get a four point win last night. Spring training
as it has been since the eleventh ended today. Spring
training as it will be with games being played nearly
every single day, starts tomorrow. Well, they don't go to
the field and go through workouts on days they have games.
They get on buses and drive to the field, or
they do that in the.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
Regular season kind of they go through workouts before the.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
Game starts, exactly because they don't bust to any of
them and they're almost all at night.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
They do on the road.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Yeah, they bust from the hotel. They're not taking a
bus trip.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
You said bus. I'm just telling you they use a bus.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
They don't take a bus trip to them. I'm being
I should have added the word trip as they don't
take a bus trip to them. But yeah, I'm just
to say that, you know, throwing live BPS, which we
will talk about today, and you know, taking bunting practice
and whatever else it is you do during spring training,
throwing off to the side, talking to your buddy, getting
all of your analytic measurements taken care of. On one
(05:51):
of the side fields or one of the areas of
the West Palm Beach Complex that has fourteen pitching mounds
next to one another and you can take care of business. Oh,
a lot of that will cease to happen on a
regular basis now that tomorrow brings baseball. There is Major
League Baseball exhibition games. Today we saw our first challenge,
(06:11):
and I think we'll see a lot more of them
in these games for practice than we would normally see
in a real game coming up on March twenty six,
when the Astros and everybody else gets together. We've got
most of the games for you, and we do have
tomorrow's game for you obviously right here on Sports Talk
seven to ninety the long awaited return to the Mound
as the opening day spring training pitcher Colton Gordon.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
So looking forward to getting into that.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Yeah, I'm just I'm ready to see some action.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
Although today was kind of.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
Like a like a sneak peek, like a old preview,
and we'll get into this later on this hour. But
you know, we've seen Hunter Brown at work for the Astros.
We've seen other pitchers that are currently in the fold
that have been around for a while at work, but
there's nothing like seeing Emi go against actual competition, as
(07:01):
it were. It's not really it's not real competition, but
just seeing him facing batters, that's just kind of gives
you a sneak peek, kind of gets you a bitten
by the bug all over again. And it's it's one
of the things about this time of year that gets
you juiced for baseball season because you know it's right
around the corner and that guy being in an Astros
uniform and potentially doing some good things too, maybe great things,
(07:25):
I don't know. We'll see is something that does that
as well. We'll get into a lot of other things today.
The ending to yesterday's women's hockey game was fantastic, even
better than I thought it was because after the fact,
going back and seeing first of all, the call we
just got done talking earlier this week about al Michaels,
(07:46):
you know, back when he had his fastball in nineteen
eighty and Kenny Albert did a great job with a
call yesterday did a lot with not having to do
too much. I guess sometimes I think guys in those
situations always wondered if they actually script stuff out, like
if it's the Super Bowl or if it just comes naturally.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
I don't think in these games there's much to script
out because you don't know how it's going to play
out once you've gotten overtime. He just made a call.
Here's what the player did, made move, put it in
the net. Obviously, the pictures in a gold medal game
are going to take care of it. The video is
going to take care of it. You're doing to play
by play and the picture, the picture behind the goal
was fantastic. Yeah, he's good, and I think most announcers
(08:29):
should recognize that the moment is what it is, and
you're there, you should recognize it long before it happens.
It would have been interesting if it was the shoe
the skate was on the other foot, and it certainly
could have been the way the game went, not scoring
until the final two minutes to force overtime, and then
the overtime goal that they had, which also it wasn't
just they scored. It was an absolutely spectacular play and
(08:50):
it just kind of came out of nowhere as they
were able to clear get a pass out front when
Canada was making a change, made a great move against
the loan remaining defenseman and that's all, she wrote.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
Tim Legler stopped by the Matt Thomas Show. We will
hear a portion of that conversation. I love that they have.
I guess the word isn't elevated. He's in a new role,
but the role that he's in is somewhere I think
he should have been for a long long time, which
is on broadcast during games. I know that watching him
be an analyst in a studio setting and all that
(09:27):
kind of stuff has its merits, and he has certainly
made a name doing that. But he's just so good
at anything he touches that's NBA related that I just
I love the role that he's in now. And he's
stopped by the Matt Thomas Show featuring Ross to have
a whole conversation about not only the rockets so far,
but he'll be on the call when they go to
(09:47):
Madison Square Garden. Matt Thomas said something on the broadcast
last night. You've been to MSG before, right just outside?
Speaker 3 (09:54):
Oh that's right. We had this conversation, seen it. I
have not been in it. He thinks it's overrated.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
Well, from a watching a basketball game venue as a broadcaster,
I imagine that it is.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
I don't think so.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
I've been in there multiple times for different things, NBA games, concerts.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
It's like it's a older ballparks in baseball. Like you're
not going in there and saying, oh my gosh, this
is all these things. It's if you're not recognizing why
it's awesome, then you might have that because such a.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
Different energy though for sure, like it's not I'm talking
about a run of the mill February game for the
Knicks against the Rockets, for example, it's gonna have a
different buzz than any other arena in the league.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
True, but currently, like Saturday night, you got two of
the six best teams in the NBA on the court.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
It's a rematch in the nineteen ninety four NBA Finals.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
I'm sure most of the people who talk about the
game between now and Sunday night at seven twenty nine
that play for these two teams or organizations will get
asked a lot of questions about it, as they should,
and by a lot, I mean zero.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
Well, they should have more asked of them.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
All Right, we know what you ask of us. It's
to entertain you. We will do that for the next
four hours a little bit less. Now get you into
the weekend, and we are often running here on a
Friday edition of the program. KD carrying the Rockets again
last night. Bet his back is getting sore. No, seriously,
how did you feel about that effort? Wex already kind
of paraphrased how he thought he would characterize the effort
(11:18):
by KD last night, But I want to get into
that a little bit more, as the Rockets actually gained
some ground last night as well. He got a little
help from a team in front of them, and now
they're in front of that team.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
We'll discuss next.
Speaker 4 (11:30):
At mid court with seven, six, five four double pump shot,
left side got its seventeen feet ran.
Speaker 5 (11:39):
Again with a clutch basket.
Speaker 6 (11:41):
One o three ninety eight twenty one seconds are running.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
That gave the Rockets the likelihood of a victory. Had
a lot of opportunities to really make it a little
bit easier on themselves. Gave up a couple of late
threes to the Hornets, who opened up the fourth quarter
by missing one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight,
now eleven consecutive three point opportunities. They still had four
more to attempt, and they made two of those down
(12:06):
the stretch. Kan Ka Nipple hitting of them, and the
Rockets were still able to get the victory. They definitely
turned up the defense after the opening quarter. The Hornets
were looking like they were going to bury the Rockets,
just like they did here in Houston. Rockets had just
enough offensive answers to state within reach, and then when
their defense turned it up. Hornets shot less than forty
percent on the second half. They shot twenty five percent
(12:28):
on their three point attempts in the second half, and
the Rockets also turned the ball over only one time
in the fourth quarter. Big huge strides in certain areas
would go a long long way for the Rockets to
be a much more formidable foe for everybody in the
Western Conference, pretty much so far in the Eastern Conference,
and they obviously have another Eastern Conference game tomorrow night
(12:49):
against the Knicks. They've been awesome, even with losing those
two games in dreadful fashion at home back to back
Knights in Houston against Charlotte and Boston just before the
All Star break. Now fifteen to four against the Eastern Conference.
Those are two of their losses. They obviously lost to
the Pistons to open up their home schedule, and an
overtime loss is us all. I wish they had even
(13:11):
more games against the East. And after this road trip
that follows their two game homestand next week they only
have one more road game against the East. They actually
only have eight more road games at all after they
get off this next road trip, which will be three
more games, and they'll get everything there. They're supposed to
forty one dates at home, forty one dates on the road.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
So you're saying, if they can just get out of
the Western Conference, they'll be in good shape in the finals.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
Well, they're probably gonna play Detroit or New York, so
can you wait till Monday?
Speaker 3 (13:42):
But areance you know what? That's fair? That's fair?
Speaker 2 (13:45):
Yeah, if they I mean, I would pick the Rockets
to win the NBA Championship if they were in the finals,
probably under every scenario, because if they've shown me that
they can beat all these West teams, whoever the three
they might face, then I'm not going to turn around
and say, yeah, but.
Speaker 3 (13:57):
I'm with you there.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
I don't know that they could beat this team. They'd
have to get an incredible I mean, if injuries dictated
their path, let's say, maybe I would think otherwise. But
it's interesting just last night. Also from an Eastern Conference standpoint,
I don't think there's any question that the Knicks have
played themselves. It can strong consideration to be a threat
in the East, both with what they've done previously, last
(14:19):
year and obviously, more to the point, what they're doing
this year, except they can't beat the Pistons and they
can't hardly compete with them for four quarters. Was a
blowout until the second half of the game, but it
was that a blowout in favor of the Pistons. So
the Knicks will be coming off a loss to open
up their post All Star Game portion of their schedule,
and the Rockets obviously will be coming off of a win.
(14:39):
Thirty five for KD fourteen to twenty from the floor Rockets.
I don't think this is crazy to give this number,
even though it's remarkable. They basically don't lose. As long
as Kevin Durant hits fifty eight percent of his shots.
Speaker 3 (14:53):
That's a pretty high number.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
Obviously, he doesn't shoot fifty eight percent on the season,
but this is Kevin Durant. He can make that happen,
and he has now on a number of different occasions.
The most recent one, obviously was last night, But just
putting that number out there and that number on the
board for the Rockets, that was the fourteenth time they
have done that. They have have seen him do that,
I should say fifteenth time. They don't have any losses
(15:19):
in any of those games except the two that went overtime.
They've not been beaten in regulation. Was any game where
he's made fifty eight percent of his shots or better?
They actually have two losses and both of them are overtime.
So the opening night, no, oh, that wasn't one of them.
They didn't shoot fifty eight percent on over I got
he had because he had a great game that night.
Oh dude, fifty six.
Speaker 3 (15:39):
Wake up. I really had a good game.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
Yeah, oh well, Alprynchingun had the best game that night,
as I recall, I think he had thirty nine.
Speaker 3 (15:46):
He had a very good night.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
And again, fifty eight percent, it's a pretty high number,
but he's had a bunch of high scoring games. I
pointed that number out so I could put it up
against what he did last night. Also, he had his
twentieth thirty point game as a Rocket. Their record is
nowhere near as good when he scores thirty because many
(16:10):
of those nights that they had to. And they kept
doing this and he kept taking shots, and well they don't.
Nobody else is scoring. He shot forty percent in a
thirty point game. He shot forty six percent in a
thirty point game. Not that many of his fifty eight
percent shooting games we're also thirty point games. He just
goes out there, he's efficient, then the team is efficient,
the scoring is balanced a little bit more as much,
(16:31):
and you go out and you get victory. So needing
him to get thirty five points last night, because if
he scores thirty one, you lose. They needed him to
get those points last night, unfortunately, because they couldn't put
him away before he right when he came back in
the fourth quarter, and you really should have. You know,
the Grant Williams shot in the in the mid range
that bounced in that kept them in the game. The
(16:54):
game would have been over if he misses the Rockets
defensive rebound. But then they also allowed them to get
too very good looks at three pointers late and Kinnipple
made two of his three. Obviously, Miller missed his, He
missed almost all of his last night, But the game
would have been over if they had gotten a couple
of offensive rebounds. The Hornets had half of their offensive
rebounds in the game.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
Just in the fourth quarter. They had six of them.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
Je was a killer two things Number one the Rockets,
and I'm not saying they only have one fatal flaw,
but this is definitely one of them. They're horrific at
defending the three point line, like horrific.
Speaker 3 (17:32):
You're gonna get so many wide open shots to.
Speaker 1 (17:34):
Where if you're a team that's even remotely good at
shooting the three, you're gonna be in good shape.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
And it's what happened. In the early portion of the game.
They kept making their threat.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
I think they made five in the first quarter and
then what well, I know, and that's when they had
their best stretch.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
But again, they did this the whole game in Houston.
They're seventh in the league after last night.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
Yeah, I mean, any team that's going to be good,
I know, any team that's even remotely good. If you're
a top fifteen, I'll just take half the league top half.
You're going to have success against the Rockets if your
shots are falling that night, because they're gonna be falling
because you're gonna be wide open taking them.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
Well, so which is it. Do you think they're good
at it or not? What defending the three?
Speaker 7 (18:15):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (18:16):
No, I oh, you're saying the Rockets are good. I
thought you were talking about the Hornets are a good
three point shooting team.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
I mean again, some nights, I'm not gonna say, Wow,
what a great job they did getting in Brandon Miller's face.
He missed eleven of twelve threes. He shot too many
for a guy who wasn't making any And again, just
like LaMelo, you got an opportunity to take better shots,
go ahead and take them. They did defend the three
well statistically clearly as the game went on. They were
hot in the first quarter, they weren't the rest of
(18:41):
the game. Was it the Rockets defense? I don't know
of the Rockets defense for the season. There's only six
teams that allow a lower three point shooting percentage than
they do.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
Yeah, analytics, statistics versus the eye test.
Speaker 3 (18:54):
All I'm saying is we're.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
Fifty some odd games into the season and a lot
of misses have happened against their defense.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
Yeah, or they're just missing wide open shots, because that
is that's the same thing you're playing defense. But if
you're leaving a guy wide open and he misses it,
that's on him. That's not on you.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
When it's Alprin Shangun or a men Thompson, what do
you mean what about when they missed wide open threes?
Is that the defense or the player? Because when Charlotte
kept allowing, well, in a men's case, I don't really
mind him taking those shots in the corner two of
his three to three point attempts, and they again they
nearly went in, they went in and out. You probably
(19:32):
need to take those shots, and he did. Alprin Shingun's
a totally different story. Someone's you gotta stop these these
three point attempts. With seventeen seconds on the shot clock.
You can't be open enough for me to say that's
a good shot for the Rockets on any possession.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
I still think we're on a different page. I'm talking
about the Rockets three point defense. Well, you just said, oh,
you're giving up all these wide open threes. Maybe it's intentional,
because yeah, I want this guy shooting threes.
Speaker 3 (19:57):
He's no good at it.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
Like Grant Williams last night hit two in the first
like not or three minutes of the second half, averages
six point four points per game.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
Hurt and not in their rotation. But he's like awful.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
He's thirty six percent overall, he's a twenty seven percent
three point shooter, and he kept dropping him against the
Rockets because he was getting wide open looks. He's yes,
this year he's been poor. He's a career thirty eight
percent three point shooter. He's also doe. That didn't help.
We really didn't help because he's stronger than Alpera and
Shangoun I know, and he couldn't do it.
Speaker 3 (20:27):
He's like, he doesn't look like he's strong. He's strong.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
From last night's game that that they did not do well.
They did. Actually, the block party they got started in
the first quarter was incredible, but they kind of set
themselves up for that, I think intentionally. If you listened
a little bit closer to what Kdi had to say
after the game, and if you were watching their defense
coming out of the All Star break, that did not
look like the kind of defense they played very often
in the first half, you know, doubling a way out top,
(20:53):
blitzing guys just kind of whoever had the ball, not
any particular player, but it left the lane open until
their help defenders at six' nine and six eleven and
six eleven kept defending the. Rim three block shots in
the first quarter FOR kd eight block shots in the,
game a men And jabbari blocking guys on dunk attempts
(21:13):
at the, rim and Then Kalk brenner got him, back
but they would have BEEN i think the numbers at
the half were forty six percent shooting in the first
half for The, hornets but if you take out the eight,
blocks they shot fifty or six, Percent so, essentially if
The rockets didn't block, it it basically was going. In
the block party was wild last night they getting all
those block, shots and k was a.
Speaker 3 (21:34):
Big part of. It, yeah, yeah it. Was it.
Speaker 1 (21:36):
Was it was an interesting game and in definitely the
type of game that if The rockets had lost in
a close, fashion, especially it just would have been another gut.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
Punch i'm glad they gutted it. Out it wasn't aesthetically
pleasing at, times but nobody.
Speaker 3 (21:51):
Cares if you.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
Didn't really talk about the good portion of the, game
what do you, Mean, well late, third early fourth they owned.
Them they only seventeen to two runs and they scored
fourteen straight. Points they got stop after stop after, stop
and all With katie on the. Bench they ran the
offense as smoothly as we've, seen even for a short
stretch most of the.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
Season, well and they did the same thing in the second.
Quarter it just didn't look like it because they were
only up by, one but that's how bad the first quarter.
Went and The hornets hit a three pointer at the
buzzer to end the, half so that made it a
one point, game but they outscored them twenty nine to,
nineteen AND i think with like two minutes left last,
night The hornets had only scored either thirteen or fifteen. Points,
(22:32):
like the defense you're talking about was definitely. THERE i just,
AGAIN i feel like they're still playing with one arm
behind their back in two different, ways IF i can
say that, Mouthful but.
Speaker 3 (22:45):
It's not going to get. Untied.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
No fred Van vliet's not walking through the, door And
Steven adams is barely walking, anywhere let alone through that.
Speaker 8 (22:52):
Door.
Speaker 2 (22:52):
Right got out rebounded again last, night and unfortunately it's
a sign of things to. Come charlotte's a great rebounding,
team but who knows if they're that because they were
without two of Their bigs last night they went at
ONE o five to one oh.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
ONE a lot more on The.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
Rockets, obviously as the season, continues and we got fourteen
more segments, today there will be plenty more on, that
including one post game visit from one of the losers last,
Night basketball a giant, loser not a driving, loser even
though the comments on some of the posts about his
post game were very driving. Related so we'll get More
LaMelo ball because everyone's got to hear. That but The
best OF x is next a little installment of an
(23:27):
ongoing segment of the show to. Winter we are gonna
have more fun at The Winter olympics expense coming up
in The best OF.
Speaker 7 (23:34):
X every doubt that you're the one to be for
no one. Building you're the BEST. X nothing's gonna ever
top you know you're the best.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
Posting every single.
Speaker 7 (23:50):
Day you know you're the best OF, x breaking the entire.
Speaker 5 (23:55):
Internet all, right let's do This olympic.
Speaker 3 (24:05):
Style it is the best OF. X we all saw
it by.
Speaker 1 (24:09):
Now in, fact you've probably seen ad nauseum all of
the different.
Speaker 3 (24:14):
Replay the drone footage is one of my.
Speaker 1 (24:16):
Favorites by the, way how many different angles have you
watched of the game winning goal By Megan.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
Kelly, uh you mean, Freebird, Yeah Megan.
Speaker 2 (24:24):
Keller oh my, bad it's not political Commentator megan with
a Y, Kelly Megan, keller no offense to. HER i
GUESS i don't think she'd fared too well on the.
ICE a seen her in. Person she's very very, Wafy
that's kind of my. Point not as.
Speaker 1 (24:43):
Wafy As Jennifer, connolly who's back For Top gun.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
Three So, lu like you, SAID i think most people
we were watching it live here yesterday during the show
and got the late, goal sent it to, overtime wonted in.
Overtime and it's the same two team if you've been following,
along that essentially have played for every women's gold medal
every time but, once and now THE us has three of,
(25:09):
them five Time Olympian Hillary knight getting the tying. Goal
Aila edwards with the shot and she was able to
deflect it in from right in front of.
Speaker 3 (25:17):
The, cage and then they won the, game and it was.
Speaker 2 (25:20):
Spectacular i've seen the angle from just behind the glass
right behind the, goal the overhead like you, said the drone,
shot the actual live game footage something from behind the.
Bench so when she skates off to her, right which
is the side of where the benches, are you can
see her immediately throw her gloves, off throw a stick
into the, air and so everybody jumps off the bench
and does the very same. THING i saw a camera
(25:40):
that was just locked in on the coach and the
coaching staff, only and the head coach was far too
stoic for far too. Long but then the two assistants
they got in a nice embrace and then he kind
of lost it and he was in tears. Afterwards it was.
Awesome IT'S i think somebody said. This i'm Sure i've
said it, before And i'll say it many times in the,
future and it's WHY i sit.
Speaker 3 (26:01):
Here it's why sports are. Awesome it is.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
What makes sports. Fun it's why we invest in. It
it's why people are screaming their heads off In milan
at the universities in.
Speaker 3 (26:13):
School you.
Speaker 2 (26:14):
Know The Today show obviously had the whole team on this,
morning and they showed the team footage of a kid's
eleven year, old nine ten, eleven twelve year old girls
hockey team that was on the ice at practice with
a big SCREEN tv off to the, side and they
stopped practice and threw their gloves in the air and
they were celebrating and like. This it wasn't nearly to
(26:37):
the magnitude of some other gold medals that have been
won over the, years but any of them like, this
especially when they're, games basketball, games hockey, matches.
Speaker 3 (26:47):
Like it's a big.
Speaker 1 (26:48):
Deal it was, Fun, well it was fun for most
people the winners. Involved the losers, however you Know, canada,
yeah the runners.
Speaker 3 (26:57):
Up, yeah the country that invented. Sport they invented. It,
hey look we should have some fun with. This what
should we? Do all?
Speaker 1 (27:07):
RIGHT i struggle with this now THAT i have a.
Child BEFORE i Had, carson like a young, child BEFORE
i Had, CARSON i didn't really have conversations or didn't
really THINK i was going to have conversations about this
kind of. Stuff with my, stepdaughter it was just NOT i,
mean she ended up playing some sports in high. School
(27:27):
but by that, time these types of conversations didn't really
need to be had because it was already. Known the
whole moral victory, thing or the whole making yourself feel
better after you got wrecked emotionally and.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
PHYSICALLY i, mean they were you. Lad one nill the whole.
Time i'm going to keep using the nail.
Speaker 8 (27:49):
Thing.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
Yep that's like a baseball. Game one, NOTHING i, mean
it's tenuous at. Best two minutes left is when they
tied this thing.
Speaker 2 (27:59):
Up it was, emotionally as you, said it's a gut,
punch rushing, right absolutely. Crushed now you've opened the door,
early shorty and hung on to that for almost the entire.
Speaker 3 (28:08):
Game and that's how hockey can go.
Speaker 1 (28:10):
Sometimes but it's like when once you allow them to tie,
it especially that late in the, running you open up
the door for an even bigger gut, punch which is
what ended up. Happening so having said all of, that of,
course At Team canada had to make themselves feel better
with a group shot of the entire team and in
(28:32):
a picture and the caption that reads silver shines just
as bright and then a heart.
Speaker 2 (28:39):
Emoji yeah At Team, canada the admin not probably. Would
i'm gonna guess that at least five national team members
that were on the ice or on the bench as
they lost thought this post was. Awful Only i'm wet
(29:01):
with just, five it could be the entire.
Speaker 1 (29:03):
Roster the responses to this by The Ugly, americans meaning
all of us, IS i, mean are just. Spectacular i'm
just gonna give you a, sample and since you're a
huge fan of this, show you're gonna love.
Speaker 3 (29:16):
It you remember The, office, RIGHT i remember Dunder.
Speaker 2 (29:19):
Mifflin you remember when they would sit down for their
little testimonials whatever you call. Them they're a little confessionals
in front of the, camera the individual cast.
Speaker 1 (29:26):
MEMBERS i recall there's one With. Pam she's sitting in
front of the. Blinds she Always.
Speaker 3 (29:31):
She's wearing a very proper. Sweater. Homely some might call
It michael maybe what?
Speaker 1 (29:37):
Rude, yeah and he probably said it while wearing a female,
suit but, anyway that's a women's. Suit corporate needs you
to find the differences between this picture and this. Picture
the first picture.
Speaker 2 (29:49):
Is a bald eagle doing what bald eagles do to
their prey over some, ice of, Course and the second
picture Is Megan keller skating away as The. CANADIAN i
don't know who this. Was it's not the, goalie, no
it's the player that she beat with that unreal. Crossover
(30:10):
she's laying on the, ice can't believe the face down
that it's, over but she can't believe what happened on the,
play like she was in perfectly good position to prevent
what happened from happening.
Speaker 3 (30:20):
If she didn't get.
Speaker 1 (30:20):
Annihilated it's corporate needs you to find the differences between
this picture and this, picture and then of, course underneath her,
face they're the same.
Speaker 2 (30:28):
Picture it was just so. GOOD i like the picture
from a. MASHUP i guess you could call it from
earlier in The. Olympics you see the puck just dribbling
into the cage about to go, across and you see
all three players staring at, it the goalie and the
megan and the defenseman who's laid. Out but they've also
(30:49):
added a picture from an earlier competition with The canadian
curler who likes to touch what he's not supposed to.
Speaker 3 (30:54):
Touch he's touching the puck in this.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
Case what about the gift Of Ricky bobby with the
caption if you're not your, last but it shines just as.
Speaker 2 (31:01):
Bright yeah it. Doesn't by the, way gold looks. Better
somebody said, That, no it doesn't stop glorifying. LOSING i
ever told. You on a personal, Side i've never really
liked to wear gold. Jewelry look at my. Jewelry it's
all silver, looking but it's actually white. Gold, yes this is,
silver it's all. White you don't even, know, well this is.
Plattum surprised they even have it on.
Speaker 3 (31:23):
Today, surprise you're even why you don't normally throw your
ring on.
Speaker 2 (31:27):
These occasions where, well OBVIOUSLY i take it off at
night and some DAYS i forget BEFORE i leave the
house to put it back.
Speaker 3 (31:33):
On are she's?
Speaker 1 (31:35):
Disappointed but, yeah the responses and again the views on
this four point four. Million i'm actually shocked it's not,
higher but it's only been twenty four. Hours basically they're getting.
Dragged my favorite.
Speaker 2 (31:52):
Is the Parental advisory explicit content label over the picture
Of megan skating away with the face Down. Canadian i'm
surprised this one wasn't your. Favorite it's a gift Of
joey from the television Show. Friends uh, huh and, he's you,
know pointing to his head like it's pretty, smart pretty,
(32:12):
Smart and the caption, says you became the fifty first
state you would have won.
Speaker 3 (32:16):
Gold, ooh who do you think is? Better in the
running right.
Speaker 2 (32:22):
Picture of A Bart simpson wearing A canadian cap reading
a book as he falls.
Speaker 3 (32:27):
Asleep the book is Called coping With. Loss.
Speaker 1 (32:30):
YEAH i mean, again all of these are appropriate and frankly.
Necessary if we're talking About, CANADA i don't care if
they're polite or. Not then their leaders have been really
really delta bravo.
Speaker 3 (32:45):
Lately SO i like.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
This The Blue jays said the same, thing did? They
that was the caption on the finishing Second.
Speaker 1 (32:52):
Ah did they release a tweet after they lost to
The dodgers and humiliating extra innings fashion in game?
Speaker 2 (32:59):
Seven i'm sure they, did but it probably didn't say
finishing not first is shining just as.
Speaker 1 (33:06):
BRIGHT i Love, george but you know, what he'd have
another ring if he had stayed. Here he's just saying
he was all. Right there you have. It best OF
x on A friday edition of the. Program coming up
next seven Ninety friday edition of the. Program so we
are getting you into the three o'clock hour and the
simulcast coming. Up how excited were YOU wex when you
(33:28):
saw various members of the Media brian McTaggart other's sharing
video Of emi facing Jose Al tuove the past. OR
i guess the, present but sort of the past in the, future.
Speaker 2 (33:44):
Probably not gonna like this WHEN i tell you that
in twenty twenty, seven one of them will be an
astro and it's Not. Emi, yeah, well when you say
it like, that of Course i'm not gonna like. It you,
know a lot of scenarios could play, out and he
hasn't even pitched a. GAME i actually think there's a
better chance now THAN i thought before that he could
be here for more than just one. Year but he
(34:05):
has the option to do whatever he wants after this. Season,
heck he might opt out and then they sign him
for a longer. DEAL i think he's gonna really really
like it here In. Houston, yeah watching him pitch against
hitters is a you, know it's nice to. See it
does remind you of why they spent the money on
him and what they need from. Him a day where
both he And Hunter brown are doing, that those are
probably your front end of the rotation. Pitchers his non
(34:27):
major league pitching career suggests that that's where he should,
be and some of the players that stood in the
batter's box against him really drive that point. Home but
it's What it's just part of spring, training and he
Is he's unlike most. NEWCOMERS i, Mean Ryan, weiss ironically,
enough is somewhat like, him but most camps.
Speaker 3 (34:47):
Don't they might not have anybody like.
Speaker 2 (34:49):
Him The astros have several people that nobody's seen and
you're not following their careers, either because they're not pitching.
Here they're not a some phenom from the. Miners they're
not some phenom. College they're not a recent draft. Pick
they're not a particularly young player that you have hopes
for long down the. ROAD i, mean this could be
a twenty, nineteen twenty year old pitcher that they drafted
(35:09):
a year or two ago that you, know got the
invite to, camp and way down the road they expect
him to make an impression with the. Team or it
could be a free agent pitcher that they faced five
times last year because he was pitching In West. Sacramento
this is somebody who you've never seen, before you've barely
even seen any footage. OF i remember On FanFest when we,
were you, know having players sit down with us on
(35:30):
our live. Broadcast Carlos korea one for. INSTANCE i knew
they hadn't been to spring training with, him BUT i
Figured carlos of the of all the players who are super,
studiers and big into every possible bit of information that
they can get about being a great. PLAYER i thought
he would know a little. Something he just hadn't seen.
Him He's i'm looking forward to seeing him. Pitch haven't
(35:51):
had a chance to look at much AND i don't
know much about him, yet and that's the, big big.
Difference it's super exciting because the expectations are they're not
hoping he's. Good they have extreme confidence and rightfully, so
that he's going to be very. Good and if he's
throwing pitches that his current Teammate Taylor tremmel is, saying,
Well i've never seen. That in all my years playing
(36:12):
ball eleven years, professionally As brian McTaggart, posted in twenty
four years playing baseball at, All i've never seen anything like.
Speaker 1 (36:18):
That i'm just that's pretty nice to. Hear it's, yeah,
no it's a very good thing to. Hear it's it
gets you again juiced for not only, tomorrow even though
he's not going to be.
Speaker 3 (36:31):
Sorry BUT i am not you.
Speaker 2 (36:32):
Should i'm not telling people not to Watch Space City
Home network tomorrow because they'll have the, game And i'm
not telling people not to listen in tomorrow But i'm
not gonna lie to.
Speaker 1 (36:42):
PEOPLE i, mean it is interesting when you consider how
you Approach texans training, camp it's.
Speaker 2 (36:52):
Different, YEAH i appreciate training, camp and Then i'm not
juiced for the, game the preseason.
Speaker 1 (36:58):
Game, right there's only three of, those and there soon
will only be. Two and there's how many spring training?
Speaker 2 (37:05):
Games?
Speaker 3 (37:05):
Fifty? Yeah a?
Speaker 1 (37:07):
Lot how about? That is that a good? Answer it's
a good, answer it's. Accurate it gives you an idea
of where we're. HEADED i was actually pretty.
Speaker 2 (37:14):
Excited we will Have astro line for you, tonight and
it was taped, yesterday but we didn't have a chance
to give it to.
Speaker 3 (37:22):
You Had Rockets basketball for.
Speaker 2 (37:24):
You Joe aspata indicating who he was sending out there
tomorrow to get things started for The Houston astros in spring.
Training and it's basically a who's who of all of
the Fringe. Astros two of the three guys could be
in the. Outfield these guys could help fill out your utility,
infield Saysar. Salazar is getting the getting the Start cole
And Bryce matthews And Cam smith And joey Low berfiito
(37:45):
And Zach decenzo And Shay.
Speaker 3 (37:46):
Whitcomb they're all in the.
Speaker 1 (37:48):
Lineup, yeah like and, again once you start playing these,
games the it'll be interesting to see as the as
the different lineups turn.
Speaker 3 (37:59):
Over. Over that's normal for this time of.
Speaker 1 (38:03):
Year and YET i feel like that's what is going
to be maybe a a subplot to the entire twenty
twenty six campaign for The, astros given the glut and
the lack OF i guess urgency to trade est Socc
perettis all of a sudden going into this, season such
way street to. Shuffle, NO i, KNOW i, know But
(38:25):
i'm just talking about the lineup. Itself it's going to
be it's gonna be a living breathing you.
Speaker 3 (38:29):
Have to be.
Speaker 2 (38:29):
Well we did go over that yesterday a little. Bit
i'm gonna go over it every. Day while this roster
looks like it does, today they had three or four
weeks ago THAT i do not think they're trading Escoc
prettis and they don't have to put a great product
on the. FIELD i don't think they'll keep doing it
for in another four weeks until the opener On march twenty,
Six the opener of the three o'clock hour will hit
that next revisit a little bit of last night's victory
(38:51):
for The, rockets and one more item on The. Astros,
obviously THE ace was throwing LIVE vp, today talk About Hunter.
Speaker 3 (38:58):
Brown, next.
Speaker 2 (39:00):
It's THE A, Team Sports talk seven ninety And Space
City Home.
Speaker 1 (39:06):
Network just read the logos behind our. Faces it'll tell
you exactly what you're tuned into or what you are
watching The the show continues until six o'clock tonight as
we get you ready for a weekend that will Include
astros spring, training baseball that doesn't, Count rockets basketball that
very much does.
Speaker 3 (39:25):
Count by the, Way nicks last. Night are The?
Speaker 1 (39:31):
Knicks That's that's who The rocket's gonna be playing tomorrow
At Madison Square. Garden are The knicks like the biggest
t's in THE. Nba we're told that they're this like
awesome competitor and contender and all that. Kind and in
the supposed wide Open Eastern, conference especially with the injuries
that have happened to Both boston and Especially, indiana.
Speaker 3 (39:54):
They should be a shoe in to go to the conference. Finals.
Right is losing to the best team of the conference
have to do with? THAT i don't.
Speaker 1 (40:02):
KNOW i just feel like The knicks fans are in
that like Constant.
Speaker 3 (40:07):
Knicks fans hate their.
Speaker 2 (40:09):
Team, yeah they're not like overwhelmed With, yeah like you're
always talking About yankee fans And dodger. Fans they they
don't think The Yank knicks fans aren't like.
Speaker 3 (40:17):
That it's.
Speaker 2 (40:17):
Weird even after last year where they obviously put a
great run. TOGETHER i think they're gonna put another great run.
Together so they got beat by a team they're probably
gonna get beat by in the playoffs if they keep
playing this way against, Them but they're pretty good against everybody.
Else they're they're definitely one of the top. THREE i
Think philadelphia is still a little more iffy because it's
just counting on them to be healthy as is a bit.
Much and then Obviously cleveland has to be considered quite
(40:40):
strongly at this. Point but they're gonna be in the.
Mix they'll they'll they will be again if, healthy they
have a. Chance there's five teams now in The. East
the trade Of James harden to The cavs made it,
five and the way these sixers went healthy have played
one of the. FIVE i think we probably didn't know
all three of the other three would be there BECAUSE
i didn't expect this out Of, boston but knew The
(41:00):
pistons And knicks who met in the postseason last. Year
again that The knicks had just eliminated for them from the.
Playoffs so The pistons are beating them in the regular.
Season it's not the end of the.
Speaker 3 (41:10):
World did you happen to, see, uh The calves last?
Night their?
Speaker 2 (41:14):
EFFORT i don't know that they had much to consider
putting effort on the court for, it because The nets
not trying to. WIN i, mean as much as it
was nice for them to let their second most talented
player walk for nothing so he could go play somewhere,
(41:35):
ELSE i, mean that's embarrassing that this is what it
came to with Cam. Thomas he wasn't helping him, win,
granted but he's a top. Scorer he's not an elite,
player he's not a. Star he doesn't play any, defense
and he probably wasn't doing what they were asking him
to do and there were issues, There but oh my,
goodness they're not going to compete hardly with anybody the
rest of the. Year they cake walked over The nets last.
(41:57):
Night did The calves?
Speaker 1 (41:58):
Well and, again it's it's not Like Donovan mitchell And
James harden scored seventeen and, sixteen. Respectively they didn't need
to score thirty or thirty five.
Speaker 2 (42:10):
Because the unbelievably Awesome calves defense held the incredibly Talented
nets to thirty five percent. Shooting or The calves rolled
the ball out and watch The nets missed all their
miss all their.
Speaker 3 (42:21):
Shots it would picked me four to sixteen after the first.
Speaker 2 (42:24):
Quarter it's the same thing that happened in their last
game before the, break when they Played. Washington you, know
The east has a couple more TEAMS i think that
are both trying to lose or are incapable of trying
to win because they just don't have enough. Talent and
we're GONNA Sae cleveland was the, team If i'm not.
Mistaken on that, list we gave you about two about
a week before The All Star. Game most games remaining
(42:44):
against teams that we perceive to be, tanking and this
was one of. Them you, know my favorite part about
that kind of important to us here, Though no it's.
Speaker 1 (42:53):
True why well wait the tanking, Part brooklyn. Tanking oh, yeah,
no you need to keep losing games by twenty eight.
POINTS i, MEAN i wish you. Did don't they have
their pick they used. To, oh that's the one they
gave up in The durant, deal, Right.
Speaker 2 (43:10):
No it's the one they gave up the offseason before
they Had brooklyn's. Draft oh's, right and they traded For phoenix's.
Speaker 3 (43:17):
Draft.
Speaker 2 (43:17):
Yeah THAT i hated the deal then for this very. Reason, now,
sorry what have we been talking about for about a? Month,
yeah oh my. God why are all these teams tanking
all of a sudden this? Year why is it just
five teams or four? Teams why is it ten? Teams
because this draft is, awesome because this draft is, loaded
and if you have a lottery pick in it and
you have a chance to know obviously draft where you,
sit if you're eighth or, seventh that's, fine but an
(43:40):
opportunity to bump up into the top, four that would be.
Unbelievable and there was no way in the twenty twenty six,
draft this draft coming up that The nets were going
to be.
Speaker 3 (43:52):
Good no.
Speaker 2 (43:52):
Way you took a chance That phoenix would also not
be good in the, future but you had a lock
that they weren't going to be, good and you had
a lot more information about what that draft would look
like just because of, timing you know a little bit
more about the draft class of twenty twenty six than
you know about the draft class of twenty twenty nine
and thirty and thirty. One SO i hope it's not
(44:14):
something that's traumatic to go back and look at later.
On but The brooklyn picked this first round picks pretty.
Speaker 1 (44:22):
Nice the nets are so bad That cleveland scored all
of ten points in the fourth quarter and still won
by twenty eight last, Night.
Speaker 3 (44:33):
Well they're.
Speaker 2 (44:34):
Awful they're one of ten. Teams there's hardly any difference between.
Them there are too many teams that didn't have enough
talent and aren't. TRYING i, Mean brooklyn scored seventeen and
that wasn't even their lowest scoring, quarter.
Speaker 3 (44:47):
Right they had sixteen in the, first they had. Nineteen
it's awesome.
Speaker 2 (44:49):
Because not only do you, win you don't even treat
it like a FULL nba. Night you get to play
your guys for half of a, game you get to
rest your guys they played twenty some odd. Minutes you
balance it, Out you get your younger players out. There
if somebody's not you, know one hundred, percent then you
don't even need them on that, night and it's gonna
happen for The.
Speaker 3 (45:06):
ROCKETS i.
Speaker 2 (45:07):
THINK i hope at least On wednesday of next week
Against sacramento it should.
Speaker 3 (45:12):
Happen also On monday Against, utah say The jazz are in.
Speaker 2 (45:15):
TOWN i also know that and sadly Noted tankers, true
and The rockets unfortunately played them WHEN i guess they
weren't tanking. Well Kiante george decided to go. Off they
lost to both of them this. Year they have lost
to both of them this. Year they have bad But
sabonis is out for the, Year Zach levine's out for the.
Year there's just not, anybody and They're they're bad to
begin they were with their full. Roster that's why that
(45:37):
loss was so hard to. Believe they're bad basketball. Team
they got to the bottom of the league with their.
Guys other Than, sabonis who's missed most of the, year
their players have been healthy much of the year except for.
Him there's just not any good at basketball at THE nba.
Level they're good at filling it up for themselves, personally
like they're just. Bad they don't they don't seem to
care winning and, losing and it's a bad. Organization on
top of, that they didn't really do anything to help
(45:58):
themselves at this deadline. Either now it's up to the
other teams that faced them on a nightly basis to
take advantage of, that which The rockets unfortunately were unable
to do earlier this.
Speaker 1 (46:09):
Year, well The rockets Getting Kevin durant in that deal
you were talking. About you didn't think That phoenix would
be as good as they are this, year like right
behind you in the. Standings but and it's your. Fault
it is absolutely your. Fault and you've beaten them three
times you've played, them so it's, yea you knew they
wouldn't beat, you but nobody else can seem to beat.
Speaker 3 (46:28):
Them it's.
Speaker 2 (46:28):
Crazy but you know they did. Not they didn't didn't
win last, night did they? That they only lost by twenty.
Speaker 3 (46:36):
Seven who'd they play? Again The, Spurs, Yes.
Speaker 2 (46:39):
Spurs No Dylan brooks because he was on league suspension
because he's been teed up too many. Times Jalen green
got a rare starter and played very well his best
game of the, year twenty six points in twenty six.
Speaker 1 (46:49):
Minutes oh, So Jalen green scored twenty six points and
his team lost, yep sounds.
Speaker 3 (46:56):
Familiar doesn't sound familiar to.
Speaker 1 (46:59):
Me Kevin durant's been awesome for The rockets this, Year
But Kevin, DURANT i think has had to be awesome
for The rockets this. Year AND i think that might
be the part of the equation where even if it's
Not Kevin durant saying it and on a burner, account
you might be a little bit uncomfortable with that way
of going about.
Speaker 2 (47:18):
Things now again same as before in my. Mind here's
why it's the same as. Before before he got. HERE
i said it many times AFTER i watched the drafts
that they had and then they obviously Added fred And.
DILLON i, said if they're gonna win a championship or
compete for a, championship be a legitimate, contender it's not
gonna be Because fred's doing. It it's not going to
be Because dylan's Doing it's gonna because the younger guys
(47:39):
who at that TIME i think made up a real
core of young talent and we wanted to see what
they would.
Speaker 3 (47:44):
Be it's going to be because of. Them, NOW i
Know Kevin durant's A hall Of.
Speaker 2 (47:47):
FAMER i know he's gonna Pass Michael jordan on the
all time scoring list later this, year probably sixteen games
from now or. Thereabouts we've all done the, math but
they're probably going to compete for a championship or be
a legitimate contender because of the other. Guys Kevin durant
is doing exactly what he's done everywhere he's been his entire.
Career a couple extra points earlier in his, career a
(48:10):
couple of points less now in his, career but just
as efficient and as effective as almost as he's ever.
Been if they're going to, win they know they're getting
twenty six out OF kd every. Night they're getna get
here's the twenty, four here's a twenty, eight here's the thirty,
five here's a.
Speaker 3 (48:23):
Twenty he's bringing it every.
Speaker 2 (48:26):
Game it's the other guys that have to and recently
the guy that's brought it most consistently Is Jabari Smith,
junior just at a different. Level they don't run any
plays For. Jabari jabari gets the. Scraps he makes it.
Happen last, night he took eight, shots he made six of,
them had another fifteen point, game defended the rim very,
well AND i know he had that stretch of games
(48:47):
where everybody that wanted to crush him, said, SEE i
told you. So, well they're fifty four games into the.
Season you mean the month Of, January, no half of
the month Of. January oh, Okay and most of his
season has been a very very Good he's not a,
star he's never going to be a so.
Speaker 3 (49:06):
Far for The. Rockets what's.
Speaker 1 (49:07):
That it's been his best season so far for The,
rockets and it's not even. Close and it includes that.
Speaker 2 (49:13):
Stretch if you don't include that, stretch And i'm not
telling you to ignore, it, yeah but just to point
out the numbers of what he's, done you'd be, amazed
because you'd be amazed at what he's actually done to
help this team, win especially with the consistency of. It and,
again outside of that, stretch he shot the ball very,
well he's rebounded. Well he's been a much better defender
(49:34):
as in a protector of the rim than he's ever
been in his, career all while the two other core
young stars have been way way more up and down on.
Speaker 1 (49:45):
Offense it's just it's just a, shame because it's not
any sort of slight Against jabari or anybody else that
The rockets picked near the top of the. Draft it's
just that when they picked at their spots near the
top of the draft after, tanking they weren't as good
as the thunder who were ahead of them those, years
Or detroit who was ahead.
Speaker 3 (50:04):
Of them the year That Kay cunningham was the.
Speaker 1 (50:06):
Number it's just it's, legit the luck of the draw
in every sense of the term and the. Words AND
i just don't know if that's going to be, enough
even with the addition Of Kevin, durant until at least
we see them fully healthy going into next season With
fred And Steven adams presumably, back and who, knows maybe
(50:27):
you do something else in the off. Season we will
continue to keep an eye on The. Rockets But i'll
tell you, what it's never too early to start talking
about free agents in THE. Nfl before you know, it
The texans and others will be putting ink to paper
on new talent via the free agency. Situation but what
kind of class is out there we'll discuss. Next IF
(50:52):
i told you to, eighties successful franchises are gonna have
THEIR i guess second, sequel but the third installment in the,
franchise which would you be more you lost. Me, sorry,
well there's part three's coming out of these two. Franchises
(51:13):
that'd probably be the easier way to say.
Speaker 2 (51:15):
IT i don't even know WHAT i don't even know
what a possible answer. Is, Seriously i'm totally like. You
you're more looking forward to what are my? Choices Top gun? Three? Uh?
Speaker 3 (51:24):
Huh gremlins?
Speaker 8 (51:25):
Three?
Speaker 2 (51:26):
Uh Top gun? Three, okay there're two for. Two gremlins
is not two for two very?
Speaker 3 (51:32):
Even you like the first one and the second one.
SUCKED i presume you didn't see. It why WOULD i,
well how can you say? That why would you watch
the Second Top?
Speaker 2 (51:42):
GUN i think we'd waited long. Enough i'm not even lying.
AGAIN i just watched it yesterday. Again it's on all
the time now because it's. AWESOME i keep watching it
every TIME i flip by and there it.
Speaker 3 (51:53):
Is it's so.
Speaker 1 (51:53):
Great i'm worried though about this. One how can you
possibly make a third?
Speaker 3 (51:59):
One that's?
Speaker 2 (51:59):
Amazing they clearly had a storyline to work with once
it didn't take too long to figure it. OUT i,
mean this is guy's flying With we obviously know he
has a. Kid we saw him sitting on the piano
singing with Meg, ryan so let's go ahead and see
if we can swing it around. That, plus they brought
a person who technically wasn't even seen in the first.
Movie they brought her to life as the owner of the,
Bar Penny.
Speaker 3 (52:18):
Benjamin.
Speaker 2 (52:19):
SO i don't know what piece of either of the
first Two Top gun Or Top Gun. Maverick by the,
WAY i said something About Top gun during last Night's
rockets post game With. Calvin would you say you remember
our drive of the game last night Was Amen thompson
going to the basket and then decelerating and watching the
(52:39):
defense foul him and him still finishing. Well when we
were running the third replay of, THAT i, goes it's
just Like Top. Gun he puts on the brakes and
they just fly right, by And calvin, said, weird just
about dives our last. Segment he didn't say. Anything did
you think he even got the? Reference he's heard. It
he was ready to, say, man six o'clock game long post,
games not even, fifteen let's get out of. Here it
(53:01):
was awesome because because the next game for them A
Space city home network at eight thirty On monday, night
a home game tip off of eight thirty non postseason
you're WORKING i am working it on the radio.
Speaker 3 (53:14):
Side that's so.
Speaker 2 (53:15):
Dumb, Okay So Top gun, Three, WELL i mean we'll
put our heads. Together i'm sure we'll figure out a
nice storyline For i'm sure he'll still just be a
captain because all he ever does is screw. Up, Well
Miles teller is signed on Stupid Jennifer. Conway why else
would you save his? Life he's got to come.
Speaker 1 (53:33):
Back, yeah that's, True But i'm just, saying, like in
case you thought it was going to go in a different, direction.
Speaker 2 (53:39):
Like the main, Characters i'm Sure goose would have been
in the second one if that were an, option but
it wasn't because he, died, right so somebody else with you,
Know bradshaw. Bloodlines, Well Jennifer connelly didn't have to be
in the second, one and they still put her in.
Speaker 3 (53:53):
IT i, MEAN i wish this wasn't a.
Speaker 2 (53:54):
Topic i'm not sure how it keeps coming, Up BUT
i also don't know how to end, it So i'll try.
Again is is there something that she's done outside of
being an actress that you don't like about? Her, like
has she spoken out on? Something has she ruined some other?
Movie has she ruined some Other has she done something
in this? One just purely because she's an. Actress she's
(54:15):
just an. Actress you don't like the work that she,
does or you don't like looking at.
Speaker 1 (54:18):
Her, NOW i don't like when you have a nearly
perfect movie and you make just an egregiously Bad.
Speaker 3 (54:27):
Why there's got to be saying With Maggie Jillen hall
in The Dark.
Speaker 2 (54:30):
Night, okay But Maggie Jillen hall so, good, Right but
that's to, me that's very. Different why Because Maggie Jillen,
HALL i think everybody would understand that because of who she.
IS i don't think anybody else, understand including, me understands
the negativity Towards Jennifer. CONNELLY i, Mean i'm being dead.
SERIOUS i don't understand. It you don't think there's better,
(54:50):
Options like in the case of every single movie you
could say that about the better options in the case
Of maggie are every other actress who you could.
Speaker 3 (54:59):
Hire that's why we don't like her in any.
Speaker 2 (55:01):
Movie that's that's why it's so different With, Jennifer, LIKE i,
MEAN i DON'T i don't HAVE i don't know. WHY
i just don't get. It she's just, blah she's an.
Actress like THERE'S i DON'T i really don't well About kelly.
Speaker 1 (55:16):
McGillis years, later but on screen With Tom cruise in the,
original she she stood her. Ground she looked like she
belonged on camera with. HIM i just don't think that's
the same with With Jennifer. Connelly another, day another.
Speaker 2 (55:32):
Show maybe when you guys join us at a remote
somewhere and we hang out after the show and have
a few.
Speaker 3 (55:36):
Pops everybody Knows i'm, right, okay we'll.
Speaker 2 (55:38):
Get everybody else to to try to try to even
understand where you're coming.
Speaker 3 (55:42):
From on that they know Where i'm coming. FROM i.
Don't that's Why i'm asking for their.
Speaker 1 (55:47):
Help they'll they'll help you. Out they'll they'll hold your
hand right along the, Way.
Speaker 2 (55:52):
Like, really there's nothing. Else it's just her looks and
how it's.
Speaker 1 (55:57):
Well aren't those two things the most important when you're
talking about her?
Speaker 2 (56:00):
Movie, yes but you're acting like they pulled her out
of the dirt in the dark.
Speaker 1 (56:05):
Ages how many ways CAN i say? This you think she's,
ugly it's not just about, that that's just.
Speaker 2 (56:12):
That's that's kind of my. Point i'm amazed. That hardly
anybody else thinks, that but you. Do that's why she's
even had a. Career it's not because of her acting.
Chops it's because people think she looks good on.
Speaker 3 (56:27):
Screen, well then why Does Maggie jillenhall keep getting? WRONG
i have no. Idea it must be because of her.
Speaker 2 (56:31):
Chops that's HOW i feel about, this, Right it's it's
okay for us to, disagree and that's what opinions are all.
About that's what viewpoints are all, about and especially when
it comes to superficial stuff like. LOOKS i Just i'm
surprised that it's for this. Person but it's. NOT i
just said it's not just about her. LOOKS i also
think she sucks as an. Actress i'm consistent, here, man
(56:52):
all the way around. SUCKAGE i can't even think of
another MOVIE i would point to all of, them like
all of, them, like name, one like a movie with
The australian guy who hits. People wait a, second which
one's that? Impossible mind? SIMPLE i can't. REMEMBER i never saw.
It he was a, genius but we didn't know. It Russell.
(57:14):
Crowe she what? Else she was in a movie With
Bradley cooper and Uh Scarlett Johansson, BRADLEY i didn't see.
That why listen to the. Title that's not A wex.
Movie that sounds like a? Thinker what is A wex?
Movie dumb?
Speaker 1 (57:32):
Comedies so, You i'm sure you loved her In Career
opportunities in nineteen.
Speaker 2 (57:38):
That one and kind of put her on the map
because She, okay here's what the uh the? HORSE i
believe this one last, picture well everybody knows about. That
that's a good, gift a beautiful, MIND i. Believe, yeah
that's WHAT i was talking. About, yeah what did you call?
IT i couldn't remember the. TITLE i, thought My australian.
Speaker 3 (57:56):
Guy who punches?
Speaker 2 (57:57):
People, Yeah Russell, crowe he knew exactly WHAT i was talking.
ABOUT i don't have to none of those comments even
have to be. RIGHT i just know they're gonna get
you WHERE i want to get. You you knew WHAT
i was talking, about no matter. What she was okay
in that, Movie i'm, sure but he it's his. Movie
it's not her.
Speaker 3 (58:14):
Movie which? One and neither was.
Speaker 2 (58:17):
This she's like the eighth most, fourth, fifth eighth most
important person In Top Gun, Maverick.
Speaker 3 (58:22):
Like i'm looking at her she's the love.
Speaker 1 (58:26):
Interest, therefore in a movie that is a, blockbuster the
size of the first sequel ever to Top gun in thirty,
years maybe go higher Than Jennifer connolly at the tail.
Speaker 2 (58:37):
End, well the love interest in this movie has to
be because the story has already been created. Old she
has to Be maverick's age or. Thereabouts, yeah, NO i get,
That so she's gonna be at the quote unquote.
Speaker 1 (58:54):
End but then this brings me back to WHAT i
always say about. This why Not Kate, beckinsale same, age,
range way, hotter way better of an, actress and if
you want her, to she's got an.
Speaker 2 (59:07):
Accent she didn't have to use, It, Kate. Kate same
thing With. Jennifer what does she? Got what's what's The
what's the movie that stands out to? You her, chops
the ones she could have been nominated for something, for
or just her best movie the one you like the.
Most is it a movie With Mark. Wahlberg she's been in.
One she was In Pearl. Harbor that was very. GOOD
(59:29):
i did think she was.
Speaker 1 (59:30):
Good i'm just trying to go like to The i'm
looking at the posters here at like the biggest blockbuster
BECAUSE i will.
Speaker 2 (59:36):
Is this then anything Goes friday by the, way of. Course,
okay she was an, aviator WHICH i never. Saw, YEAH
i didn't know. That there's A i think she was
the first person In Pearl harbor to really realize how
Dumb Ben affleck. Was now intentionally in the, movie he
was supposed to be really. Dumb that's.
Speaker 3 (59:53):
True but that's real life, Too it's not just the.
Speaker 2 (59:56):
Movies and there he is spending some of his life
With Jennifer. Lopez oh look It's. Jeelie it's the worst movie. Ever,
yeah he was In black Hawk, down great. MOVIE i
have to watch that something a true.
Speaker 1 (01:00:10):
Story, yeah it's just, Like now here's a movie that she's. In,
YOU i guarantee have never. Seen it's not one of
her and The contraband is the one that you were
thinking of With Mark. Weber it's, Great but the one
that she was in with the Other wilson, brother not
the one that has his nose broken in sixty five different,
places the one who's been on the, show friend of the,
(01:00:30):
show of the Show. Luke, okay it's Called. Vacancy have
you ever seen?
Speaker 2 (01:00:35):
THAT I i know THAT i should have because it
looked really, awesome suspenseful and. All yes it's pretty, dark,
YEAH i mean all, right so for you it could
have been a little bit more closer to. Perfect Top
gun three is for real on the.
Speaker 1 (01:00:52):
Way but, dude if we did a poll right now
with like twenty listeners and it's, Like, okay who's who
would you rather watch for an hour half to two
hours in a? Movie regardless of, acting chops or looks
or both of those are huge. Important Kate beckinsale's going
to mop up the floor with that, waspy non attractive bad.
Speaker 2 (01:01:11):
Actress my point was to compare her To, kate because you're,
right it'd probably be twenty for twenty just the level
that you hold her in, regard which is the lowest
regard of all.
Speaker 1 (01:01:25):
This all the movie she's in is so. Good, otherwise
that's the PROBLEM i. Have that's what kills. YOU i
don't think she had the, power nor did she ruin the. Movie,
well she didn't have the power to say, no because
if the power didn't ruin, it she didn't ruin.
Speaker 2 (01:01:38):
It she.
Speaker 3 (01:01:38):
Did didn't you like? It admit?
Speaker 2 (01:01:40):
It?
Speaker 3 (01:01:40):
Yeah despite, HER i like. It that's WHERE i. Go
it's that's worth going over for this.
Speaker 1 (01:01:45):
Topic all, right when we come, back did you Catch
LaMelo balls act last? Night this is a big reason
why public relations are, down so to, speak for THE
nba league wide one of the latest.
Speaker 3 (01:01:58):
Examples we'll get into that. Next the eight On Sports
talk seven, Ninety.
Speaker 1 (01:02:07):
Chad ways in in the last segment via social media
me tuning into THE a team for sports takes and
hearing This Jennifer connolly slander she's a smoke. Show by the,
way what Does chad? Know and Then sean attached the
aforementioned gift of her riding the mechanical horse and target Tar.
Ja some, people if you're nasty, ac you're. Crazy, No i'm.
Speaker 3 (01:02:29):
Not i'm not. Crazy i'm not.
Speaker 2 (01:02:32):
Crazy Let chad out of a second post on the x.
Platform just a gift Of Ronald. Burgundy what did he?
Say agreed to?
Speaker 3 (01:02:41):
Disagree, well that's because they were talking About germany at the.
Speaker 2 (01:02:44):
Time by the, way for those who turn in for flaming,
hot tune in for flaming hot sports. TAKES i, believe
and this is ballsy in the sports sense to do
this play. ONWARDS i believe we're going to See canada
and The United states in the men's hockey. Final canada
miraculously Beat finland earlier today down to nil and ended up.
(01:03:08):
Winning come on The, Finns but in THIS Usa. SLOVAKIA
i knew it was, on but we'd been watching some
Other olympic. EVENTS i had The Padres mariners game on
spring training game On important and THEN i flipped over to,
here probably five minutes, ago and it was two Nothing United,
states and then they scored two more goals AND i
(01:03:29):
really truly believe.
Speaker 3 (01:03:30):
It was within twenty.
Speaker 2 (01:03:31):
Seconds so Then i'll lead for, nothing and it's probably
it's going to, continue probably to slide further in their,
favor and they can try to match what the what
the women's hockey team did and Against. Canada so similarly
The canadian Team canada account can send out another silver
shines as, bright but everybody else On twitter will get
(01:03:52):
to them before they can even do. That does silver
still shine just as? Brightly and then other people will
post the. UH i don't know if everybody's watched closely.
Enough at The, olympics if you win a, medal you
get the, medal they come out there and they present
it to. You you had to figure skating medals handed out
yesterday after the, performances and THERE'S Usa melyssa getting her,
metal and you also get a stuffed.
Speaker 3 (01:04:14):
Animal this.
Speaker 2 (01:04:15):
Year it's been flowers and other things in the. Past
but like for the hockey, game they walk all the
way down the line and give everybody in. Hockey they're
only giving out two sets of medals because it was
two teams battling for the gold and the, silver so
they handed out all the silver medals To Team, canada
and then they go all the way back to the
beginning of the line and hand them all their stuffed,
(01:04:38):
animal and so plenty of people posted that saying the
absolute disgusted On Team canada's face when they took this
stuffed animal from the presenter and the eye rolls and,
man they sure didn't like. This, yeah they just lost
in overtime of a game they led into the fifty seventh.
Speaker 3 (01:04:56):
Minute so it's pretty been pretty.
Speaker 2 (01:04:59):
Funny most of the the other, competitors the, individuals the, skiers,
obviously the figure, skaters it's it's a little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:05:05):
Different it takes one.
Speaker 2 (01:05:06):
Second here's your, medal here's your, medal here's your, medal
here's your stuffed, animal here's your stuffed.
Speaker 3 (01:05:10):
Animal here's.
Speaker 2 (01:05:11):
Yours in two. Minutes the whole process is over on the.
Ice it takes about five minutes per. Team it's, uh.
Speaker 3 (01:05:21):
It is what it.
Speaker 2 (01:05:22):
Is as they, say when you're giving out metal on
medals on, Ice, well it's not because of. That it's
just there's twenty some odd players instead of one. Competitor,
yeah BUT i, MEAN i guess they put some carbet. Out,
NO i has nothing to do with. That i'm saying
there are the sheer amount of. People When Mikayla schiffern
wins her gold, medal it's she and two other. Competitors
(01:05:43):
that's the whole that's the whole. Presentation in a hockey,
match you got both teams on the, edge you got
fifty sixty people out. There football's coming the smaller, team smaller.
Speaker 3 (01:05:53):
Roster all.
Speaker 1 (01:05:54):
Right last Night rockets beat The, hornets, obviously and we
had talked about the fact that even though two of
The hornets players were suspended going in for That pistons
brawl before The All star, break you still Had LaMelo
ball Who, again As i'm watching the game last, NIGHT
i was just getting more and more irritated because this
guy like legit drove into, somebody drove, away then walked
(01:06:17):
out of that, vehicle got into another. Vehicle he just
completely like the pick a scenario that would be the
most irresponsible as a licensed, motorist.
Speaker 3 (01:06:28):
And he did. It AND i, mean come, on you're
gonna Defend LaMelo. BALL i can't wait to hear.
Speaker 2 (01:06:35):
This we just we're into a second incident With. Rashid
BUT i, mean there's no comparison with two. Cars he
was at, fault they both got. OUT i, MEAN i
obviously at some. Point first of, all we barely have
any footage of what happened. After we just know he
got into another super, expensive ostentatious.
Speaker 1 (01:06:55):
VEHICLE i think the big difference here in a, way
it's like it's kind of Crazy becau because this speed
we were talking about With rashid was insane.
Speaker 3 (01:07:05):
And he fled the.
Speaker 2 (01:07:08):
Scene, yeah Well LaMelo didn't do either of those, things
but in.
Speaker 1 (01:07:13):
A weird, way like you would expect that to happen
with those types of speeds given where he, was and
even on a, freeway it was still way too fast.
Speaker 3 (01:07:23):
In the middle of a downtown street where you're.
Speaker 1 (01:07:26):
Going he was going at less than thirty miles an
hour when it just rolls over this. Car and then
when he was asked about it last, night and again
it doesn't help that he went like five or fourteen
score eleven points wasn't. Great he's like talking to the
media and they're asking him questions about. It listen to
this exchange and then we'll go back in case you
(01:07:48):
can't understand everything that he's. Saying this is What LaMelo
ball sounded like when he was asked, about you, know
playing after this whole traffic, incident.
Speaker 3 (01:08:00):
Where the other person asked.
Speaker 5 (01:08:01):
Was also know that side.
Speaker 2 (01:08:06):
Straged out the.
Speaker 3 (01:08:06):
Car can we put it towards the last point of offen?
Speaker 2 (01:08:11):
Sheet how how it's been emotional for you to have
to stay with that and then come here and playing
games nights.
Speaker 6 (01:08:16):
On top of.
Speaker 9 (01:08:16):
That i'm just a lot.
Speaker 2 (01:08:19):
Blessed her was very back.
Speaker 1 (01:08:21):
Sitting that's the sound of him just getting up and
walking out with his shorts like down below his butt
as HE'S i, mean he barely got dressed to go
in there to talk to. Them my favorite part, though
was the reporter that was like talking about what are your?
(01:08:43):
Emotions like he was the one that got run over
by another vehicle randomly in the middle of, nowhere like just.
Because and by the, way he did leave the scene
because he was asked about.
Speaker 2 (01:08:56):
IT i didn't say he didn't. Leave he didn't flee
the scene and try not to get, caught which.
Speaker 3 (01:09:01):
So she lost the. Scene but he didn't flee the.
Speaker 2 (01:09:03):
Scene, yeah someone came up in another car and picked
him up and he got in and he. Left very. Different,
okay if you run into, something probably he might not
have handled it the way that you're supposed. To he
might not have you, know exchanged information or, something whatever
the case may. BE i GUESS i don't even know
that BECAUSE i haven't read anything about. IT i assume
(01:09:23):
if if that's the, case then that would be fair
to say he didn't handle his business.
Speaker 1 (01:09:26):
Property he was asked why he was left the scene
and his response, was, nah you got to check in on.
That what and again like whether or, not like everybody's,
Okay so it's but it's, LIKE i don't, know, man
the optics of, this from the stupid answers to him
getting up and basically his pants falling. Off you can
(01:09:47):
call me whatever you, want like an old fuddy duddy about.
This everything about this was. Awful If i'm DOING pr
for The, hornets and you could see THE pr guy
by the way in the, background, LIKE i hate my,
LIFE i HATE i hate being here right. NOW i
want to be anywhere else on the planet than dealing
with this total jackass.
Speaker 2 (01:10:02):
Set the timing of this accident happened to be when
you know there's no availability that. Day the next availability
is probably post game of their next day's, game which
is what took. Place so everybody wanted to talk to,
him and he clearly did not want to talk about
it after the. Game after the first several questions on.
Speaker 1 (01:10:18):
It like this isn't even the first time that there's
video of him driving like a total.
Speaker 2 (01:10:22):
Idiot do you want to go hit the? Comments you'll
hear a lot about. It And i've seen this CL
i forgot about.
Speaker 1 (01:10:28):
This he's he's in a sports car and just like
peels out of the arena like he's on the.
Speaker 3 (01:10:32):
Expressway and, AGAIN i gotta lead. FOOT i get.
Speaker 1 (01:10:36):
It i'm not like even it's just you have to
act at least like you're gonna be.
Speaker 2 (01:10:41):
Accountable, YEAH i can blow it. Off yeah that he
did not. Do no impression of. That he could be
on the in the side on the, side but it
certainly didn't appear that. Way not a great night for
The Charlotte hornets and Specifically LaMelo. Ball all, Right Kurt,
signetti he is making it rain At, indiana and there's
(01:11:02):
some other coaching drama on the college side of.
Speaker 3 (01:11:04):
Things we'll explain. NEXT i don't Think indiana football is
gonna go, anywhere not To.
Speaker 2 (01:11:13):
Chicago, No chicago's going To. Indiana here's what we can work.
Out you, guys give us The, Bears we'll give you
the give you The. Hoosiers how's that. SOUND i don't
Think chicago would make that, Trade no way they'd make that.
Trade indiana. Might though we've been coming off a.
Speaker 1 (01:11:32):
CHAMPIONSHIP i realized that college football coach contracts are like monopoly.
MONEY i, mean it's real, money but like it's. Not
it just feels like they're only as good as the
season that you're, in, right, like plus the years that
(01:11:54):
are guaranteed in the. Buyout, well that's. True just asking
and them and others about that kind of. Thing it's
it's worth. All but WHAT i mean is, like, oh
you've Signed Kurt signetti to a long term extension and
now he's making over thirteen million on average per. Year,
well that's, great but if he gets eyes for another
(01:12:14):
program that's, bigger they can give him more or. Whatever
there's nothing that's going to stop that from. Happening that's
WHAT i mean by they're worthless to that. Extent they're not.
Worthless you're getting. MONEY i mean yes and. NO i
would say you guys have been listening. Today duh wex
has got a different point of view on. THIS i
can't believe.
Speaker 3 (01:12:32):
It no way.
Speaker 2 (01:12:33):
Shocking the most successful recent Coaches Kirby, smart, Yep Nick,
Saban Ryan day as a, Title Kurt signetti and maybe
we could add a couple more to the. Lists maybe
would shift the Point i'm making a little. Bit and,
Als i'll think about some. Others but don't you think
(01:12:54):
people have tried to Pull kirby. Away i'm sure people
tried to pull you, know they're. NOT i don't think
any of those guys are going. ANYWHERE i don't Expect
Kurvey smart to coach anywhere. Else, well now there is
a big. Difference, Yes Kurtis smart's At, georgia, right that's
why Kurtz signette's At indiana and again basketball score three
COACHES i. Mentioned nick obviously isn't coaching. Anymore but he
didn't leave for some other. University he left for The
(01:13:16):
university of McAfee and it's been.
Speaker 3 (01:13:19):
A lot of. Fun and now he's gonna do. Movies
those three.
Speaker 2 (01:13:21):
Coaches are coaching some of the most, historic most, successful
biggest programs on. Earth Kurt signetti Isn't he's Made. Indiana
this is the best. Era the best season Of indiana
football is better than all of their seasons. Combined it,
really it truly. Is AND i know he had another
season just prior to this last season two years ago
(01:13:42):
for where we are. Now there was also that they've
never seen anything like this At indiana and the fact
that they have come up with this amount of money
to pay. HIM i, mean he didn't get more years
on this latest advancement in. Salary he just got more.
Money they had already signed him to an extension In,
october and they just gave him more money for the
(01:14:03):
same length of time to stay there under. Contract AND i,
think as you, SAID i, think unlike those, others it's
so easy to envision there being some other job for,
him except he. Does he makes a pretty compelling, case
it does seem like he is not. Interested it does
seem like it isn't going to make him. Change he
(01:14:23):
isn't gonna go. Anywhere and at some, point once you've
done this With, indiana this is a pretty big. CHALLENGE
i would say winning in THE sec is a pretty
sizable challenge. Also and that's what all the other COACHES
i didn't, Mention Lane, Kiffin Coach, sark Coach, Elko they're
all trying to. Do it's like he's probably the biggest
challenge in college. Football it be a bigger challenge than
(01:14:44):
winning The Big ten or winning a national title out
of The Big. TEN i would definitely be on board with.
That but winning it again and again and, again or
going to the playoffs again and again and. Again DO
i need to go somewhere? Else SHOULD i be lured
by fourteen million If i'm already making? Thirteen SHOULD i
be lured by a sixty five million guaranteed or one
hundred and five If i'm already getting ninety?
Speaker 3 (01:15:04):
Five and? EVERYTHING i, mean it's ALSO i don't. KNOW i,
mean Maybe i'm naive to.
Speaker 2 (01:15:09):
IT i can see a pathway where in twenty twenty,
three the head coach of The Indiana hoosiers Is Kurt.
Speaker 1 (01:15:16):
Signetti, YEAH i, MEAN i don't see him leaving, necessarily
although if he, did you know what's he's already. Done
the most challenging part winning at a basketball school where
football had winning a championship was a.
Speaker 2 (01:15:32):
Joke one thing we talked, about and maybe to challenge
that challenge is the reverse impact of what The Transfer
portal AND nil. DID i thought it was gonna take
these programs that were already up here and just move
them further up, here and the same ones would just
be even further out, front and even in THE sec
and in The Big ten and some of those schools
they would just get even further. Separation But indiana was
(01:15:55):
in the bottom. Group indiana is an embarrassing football program
at that. University WHILE nil and The Transfer portal became
what it is and somehow they became the best program
in the country and they're basically going up against all
the other, powers but more other teams are Like. Indiana
now it does seem like the door, opened AND i
never thought it would for the lesser. Programs the sixth
(01:16:17):
and seventh best teams in these conferences are the eighth
and ninth best. TEAMS i do think, somehow if you
do it, right or you get, lucky or you have
the right personnel, director and you spend the money that
you have from your collective, properly it actually seems like
you can win more. Places it also helps that we're
in a twelve team playoff now and we're probably headed to.
Speaker 1 (01:16:39):
Sixteen, yeah it spread the, wealth so to. Speak and, maybe,
WELL i don't, know say maybe also thinks the talent.
Speaker 3 (01:16:48):
Win is becoming a different term.
Speaker 2 (01:16:50):
Too Like Arizona state was in the playoffs two years,
Ago Boise state was in the, Playoffs like don't you consider,
well then they must they were, Successful like this is
what you, want this is what you're striving.
Speaker 3 (01:17:02):
For you don't have to win.
Speaker 2 (01:17:03):
Everything and then each of those programs Or Arizona state
was a, Winner but that's WHAT i guess.
Speaker 3 (01:17:09):
That and both of their coaches.
Speaker 2 (01:17:10):
Are, super super, young just the ones we happen to bring,
up and both have gotten fat extensions to stay.
Speaker 3 (01:17:16):
There at.
Speaker 2 (01:17:17):
Least this Is Boise, state this Is Arizona. State you
know who didn't get an extension in college? Football uh?
Huh yeah he got fired? Instead who's?
Speaker 3 (01:17:26):
That James.
Speaker 1 (01:17:27):
Franklin, YEAH i recall did you see that story today
or over the last few couple of days Where Terry
smith basically threw shade at. Him So Terry smith took,
over ended up going three and three and then winning
in The Penn Stripe bowl Over.
Speaker 2 (01:17:45):
Clemson where do they play That yankey stadium that gave.
Speaker 3 (01:17:52):
Them the seven to six record on the.
Speaker 2 (01:17:54):
Year and he interviewed for the head coaching, position but
ultimately they went with With Matt campbell out of eye With.
Speaker 1 (01:18:00):
State but he stayed on in an associate head coach.
Role and this was his description of his new role
Under campbell while throwing some shade At James. Franklin, quote
my associate role is different and bigger than Under. James
Coach campbell has conversations with me about how he wants
to do certain, things And i'll share my insight to
(01:18:22):
do certain. Things ultimately he has to make that final.
Decision james would ask me certain, things but it's different Under.
Matt everyone in the building knows That i'm the associate head.
Coach Under, james that wasn't. CLEAR i, mean these guys. Borderline,
WELL i don't know If James franklin didn't care for.
Him but it sounds Like Terry smith was like not
(01:18:45):
a big fan Of James franklin and not afraid to
tell anybody.
Speaker 8 (01:18:48):
That.
Speaker 2 (01:18:48):
NOW i, mean he's A Penn state, guy played At Penn,
state obviously went To Penn state and had been At
Penn state for the last twelve. Years definitely meant something to,
him and there were things that he did not. Appreciate,
Well james was there with. Him he did do an
awesome job as they're interimed coach this, year all things,
considered And i'm surprised he didn't get the. Job, no
because that's the way it. Is we've got a lot
(01:19:11):
of money to spend and we can pretty much go
out there and hire a, successful experienced head coach and
we'll see If Matt campbell.
Speaker 3 (01:19:19):
Works but it was a very good.
Speaker 1 (01:19:20):
Hire but If Terry smith goes, elsewhere smaller and builds
up his his, RESUME i mean he.
Speaker 2 (01:19:27):
Could he's only in his mid, fifties but he's A
Penn state, guy so he. Stayed, yeah he's kind of
he's not as young as some of these. Guys all,
right fromber is Out emi is. In let's talk about
the pressure.
Speaker 1 (01:19:39):
Cooker that's gonna be, expectations for, example for a guy
Like emi coming to The astros this.
Speaker 2 (01:19:46):
Year we'll do that when we return the eight On
Sports talk seven ninety under.
Speaker 1 (01:19:54):
Way as we are halfway home on A friday edition
of the, program we are taking you into the weekend
that will feature Obviously astro spring training, Competition rockets basketball
in The Big. Apple they make their loan appearance at
The garden this, year pending a rematch of the nineteen
ninety FOUR Nba, finals of, course which WE i said.
Speaker 2 (01:20:15):
EARLIER i don't think they're ever going to Play charlotte
in the playoffs period, ever and it will never, happen
but there's an outside chance they could see The knicks
in the.
Speaker 3 (01:20:23):
Playoffs how cool would.
Speaker 2 (01:20:25):
It be if The rockets finally got back to the
finals and it was The knicks again and then they
killed them all in the first year Of Bob costas
back in THE.
Speaker 3 (01:20:34):
Nba that would be.
Speaker 1 (01:20:34):
Awesome who's going to get murdered and then get in
A bronco seven Ninety last, Night, brett who helps with.
Speaker 2 (01:20:47):
The television side of our Show animal with the television
shot is So brett does a phenomenal job. There he
And frankie make it all happen and assist on the
social side in a very very big.
Speaker 3 (01:20:59):
Way much. Appreciated.
Speaker 1 (01:21:00):
Absolutely he was kind of training on the rockets board
last night With JOSH c and he made the mistake
of letting it. Slip he had seen THE fx The
People VERSUS. O. J simpson mini.
Speaker 2 (01:21:13):
Series so in a ranking of people that work here
At Sports talk seven ninety Or iHeartRadio got up the, Charts,
WELL i MAINLY i just went.
Speaker 3 (01:21:19):
DOWN i slipped even further. Down, well, no because here's the.
Speaker 1 (01:21:23):
Thing he also let it slip that he had not
seen the multi PART espn document. Documentary he got the
trailer in a text message before he'd ever even left
the parking, garage and he has his. ASSIGNMENT i told
him he'd appreciate the show more if you watch. THAT i,
mean let's face, it, so, YEAH i thought that was
funny last night since we brought it up out of.
Nowhere here's what else is. Funny if from Ber valdez
(01:21:47):
is out and he is he's In. Detroit did you
see there are alternate uniforms they came out.
Speaker 2 (01:21:52):
WITH i don't know enough about what their regular you,
know because the colors don't. Change they're white and black and.
Orange looks like he's wearing the same. GEAR i think
they looked really. Cool there were some people that were
not super, entited it's super, excited but they looked pretty
awesome to.
Speaker 3 (01:22:07):
Me part of, me and.
Speaker 1 (01:22:09):
This is just, me has always kind of like been
jealous of teams that have Old.
Speaker 3 (01:22:13):
ENGLISH i like. That there are very, many luckily for
you to. Dislike but let me ask you.
Speaker 2 (01:22:18):
This so these new Orange tigers jerseys that they'll wear on,
occasion do you think they'll be? More do you think
they're better or worse than the jerseys The rockets were
playing against last. Night everything about bad four bad, Jerseys
everything about that was. Awful like there ARE Nba cup
courts that people cry about it's so, rid but like it,
(01:22:40):
was that's what the league. Mandated your cup court looked.
Like there's thirty cup courts that all look awful because
the whole thing's covered in. Paint and their city edition,
court which they chose to make that look what The rockets. Shows,
yeah it says h town at center court and it's, awesome,
Beautiful and they wore those last time and look at
(01:23:01):
all that. Hardwood you can still see it looks like
another night in THE, nba.
Speaker 1 (01:23:05):
Which is AGAIN i love back to the nineteen ninety six.
Season well ninety five ninety. Six, hey we've just won two.
Titles what should we? Do change everything and put like make,
paint throw, up vomit all over the floor to the
point where the league has to, say back it off
a little. Bit you'll never have this floor. Again they
played with it for one season because there was no.
(01:23:26):
Hardwood it was all. Paint, YEAH i was under the.
Paint it looked like a third grader had developed.
Speaker 2 (01:23:31):
It so The tigers have alternate uniforms And frombo will
be pitching them at some point this.
Speaker 3 (01:23:35):
Year should be their number two.
Speaker 2 (01:23:37):
Starter and the expectation is The astros went out and
added a number two starter In tatsuya Em.
Speaker 1 (01:23:44):
I'm going to read aloud from a Quote JOE. A
SPOT i had to say. Today Chandler roome's the one
that tweeted this. Out, uh he did mention talking About.
Emi he did mention that he was a little bit
nervous today about his first LIVE. Bp BUT i like
that that's a human side of things where sometimes we
forget that these players do feel some of that when they're.
(01:24:04):
Competing But i'm excited about. Today and then he HAD
i can't remember it was it McTaggart that had put
a quote out there about covering baseball for as long
as he had and never Seeing.
Speaker 2 (01:24:20):
Oh it wasn't McTaggart he posted, it but it was a.
Ballplayer qu that's, right that's. Right you're gonna have to
help me out on this BECAUSE i don't have it
Right For. Taylor trommeell was was there during this portion
of the day and he commented on EMI's. Splitter Per brian,
McTaggart who will once again grace the airways here On
Sports talk seven to ninety is baseball season has, arrived
(01:24:40):
and we appreciate. That the quote From taylor was be
honest with, YOU i played this game twenty four years,
now eleven of them, professionally And i've never seen a
pitch like that before in my.
Speaker 1 (01:24:50):
Life, now those two things we just, mentioned that's a
LOT i think of pressure on a guy, who's let's face,
it you can sugarcoat it or you can be. Real
After Hunter, brown The astros are kind of expecting him
to replace Fromber.
Speaker 2 (01:25:09):
Valdez they, are BUT i do think they did a
pretty good job, of, HONESTLY i think taking the pressure
off of him by acknowledging it shouldn't all be on
him because we have problems all over this. Place we
hope That Christian javier is. Great we hope That Spencer
araghetty is. Great but we also went out to Get Mike.
Burrows we also went out to Sign Ryan. Wise we
(01:25:30):
also went out to Get Nate, pearson and we spent
pretty good free agent. Money if you rank the free agent,
pitchers that contracts, well EM i got one of the
four best free agent. Contracts roberts was, better, Obviously Dylan cees,
Same and, yeah the money says clearly he should replace.
Him keep this in, mind if he in fact is
on a one year deal with The, astros it is
a three year, contract but he's got options after this
(01:25:53):
first season and after season number. Two if he stays
through season number, one the plans kind of all already in.
Place if the number two starter in twenty twenty, Six
Tatsuya ema is pitching somewhere else in twenty twenty, Seven
SO i do think there's a tremendous amount of pressure on,
him but it's for a number of different, reasons reasons
(01:26:13):
and maybe not one more important than the. Other the
success of The astros may or may not rest on his.
SHOULDERS i kind of don't think it. Does there's so
many other pieces to this, puzzle especially from a starting
pitching standpoint and your, closer that it shouldn't be all on,
him and he shouldn't perceive it that. Way the pressure
on him is also, different kind of like we talked
about in the opening, segments it's all, New like what
(01:26:37):
about the other five days of his. Life he's gonna
pitch On march twenty, seventh probably day two of The
Major League baseball. Season then they're gonna play five games
and he's not gonna pitch in any of. Them and
he's gonna live in a foreign, country and he's gonna
be living with presumably a bunch of people he doesn't,
know and traveling with people he's getting to know. Them
And chandler wrote a really nice article about How Ryan
(01:27:00):
weiss reached out to, him and he And Mike, burrows you,
know took him out to. Dinner because the very honest
quote That chandler had From emai was he's bored sitting
in the, hotel and they're trying to learn a little
bit more about how they can help with the language,
barrier and he's trying to do the. Same, obviously his
translator has been a part of all this and was
there with them at, dinner And Joe spott is trying
(01:27:22):
to do. More they also Added, tang the pitcher from The.
Giants he's been In Major League baseball before and been
in A giants organization, before but also there is a language.
Difference there's there's a lot more going into, this AND
i think with all those other, concerns if they're too
much for, him it could affect his pitching or on
(01:27:43):
the days he, pitches all those things go.
Speaker 3 (01:27:45):
Away, ah this is. Great i'm go out there and
get major league hitters. Out this is. Fun this is.
Speaker 2 (01:27:50):
Fun, Well, wow Whatever sally throws, Down i'm throwing Whatever yaner,
Wants we're getting.
Speaker 3 (01:27:55):
It this is gonna be, awesome you, know him, Admitting,
Oh i'm.
Speaker 1 (01:27:58):
Nervous that's that's, fun especially in a spring training. Setting
BUT i do think And i've heard athletes talk about
this all the, time and it doesn't matter the sport
or the, setting and of course there's been guys that
have they've, gotten you, know in their own. Head But
i've thought about this before because you, know famously INFAMOUSLY
i hate getting up in front of. PEOPLE i really,
(01:28:18):
do which is. Crazy i'm on television right. Now exponentially there.
Speaker 3 (01:28:22):
Is farm live studio.
Speaker 2 (01:28:23):
Audience, yeah but exponentially WHEN i was on television At channel.
Two Anytime i've opened on a mic here on saturd n.
Speaker 1 (01:28:32):
Years that was Just, frank Dom bill And. Jean, yeah
the PEOPLE i could, See but exponentially there's so many
more people that are watching and or listening to.
Speaker 3 (01:28:44):
You and you're doing. Fine, man it's all.
Speaker 1 (01:28:46):
Good if you put me in a room of admittedly
a controlled amount of, people less than it's probably what
listening to, us, right because it's in a again.
Speaker 2 (01:28:55):
Against welcome in our guest, Speaker Adam, Clinton the floor is.
Yours thanks for coming, in Mister, clanton And i'll be
over there like coming out there one. Time one time
we were In vegas at The iHeartRadio Music, festival and
we need you to introduce the next. Artist, no that's
(01:29:16):
what they said to my, wife and she's, like she crushed.
Speaker 3 (01:29:19):
It, well of course she.
Speaker 1 (01:29:20):
Did but it's like twenty five thousand people in a
field in the middle of The Vegas.
Speaker 3 (01:29:24):
STRIP i can't hear.
Speaker 1 (01:29:25):
You and she's, like, hey can you do some can
you take some video of this for SOCIAL i go,
absolutely Because i'm not the one on the microphone and
nobody's looking at me even Though i'm out there on that.
Stage it's, weird AND i, think like IF i, was.
Speaker 2 (01:29:40):
So how do you Think emi is gonna look around
at the stadium or feel?
Speaker 3 (01:29:44):
That not because he's in his national.
Speaker 2 (01:29:47):
Setting but it's not like he's been pitching for some
small college or traveling in the minors like he's pitched
in professional.
Speaker 1 (01:29:54):
Baseball, like for, example if you were to ask me
to go out in front of that crowd and, talk you,
know scripted or, otherwise it doesn't. Matter that's one THING
i would hate that if you, said, hey can you
play drums for this? BAND i wouldn't Be it would
be fine BECAUSE i would be doing would you.
Speaker 2 (01:30:12):
Drop like the it guy from work Like Phil? Collins,
yeah Because i'd have a lot of hit records and
a lot of.
Speaker 3 (01:30:18):
Money.
Speaker 1 (01:30:19):
Uh but you, know like you're doing your craft that
you're used to and so it becomes like muscle memory.
Almost you're not thinking about the fact that you're doing
it in front of a bunch of. People SO i
don't think he's gonna be nervous and that training it means.
Nothing so it's making him more nervous Than dyke And
park on opening day or the next.
Speaker 3 (01:30:35):
Day after his LIVE.
Speaker 2 (01:30:36):
Vp, today McTaggart has more With, emi and he, said
as soon AS i started Facing, JOSE i was.
Speaker 3 (01:30:43):
Like, oh, Shoot i'm actually in the big. Leagues.
Speaker 2 (01:30:46):
Yeah do you say it like that through an? Interpreter oh,
shoot what is that In? JAPANESE i don't. Know oh,
shoot that's. FUNNY i like. That he's gonna be, fine
gonna be.
Speaker 3 (01:30:59):
FINE i. AGREE i think there's pressure on.
Speaker 2 (01:31:01):
HIM i think it's absolutely something that a pitcher with
the history he, has at the levels he's pitched.
Speaker 3 (01:31:06):
OUT i think he'll be absolutely.
Speaker 2 (01:31:08):
Fine but, yeah there is some pressure on him to
keep this team at least where it was a season,
ago if not more. So continue here in the four o'clock. Hour,
hey it's the. Captain It's Derek Jeter, Jada, ah how
do you feel about captains in? Sports we discussed next.
Speaker 3 (01:31:25):
Heading into the.
Speaker 2 (01:31:26):
BREAK i Think Derek jeter's nickname The captain is one
of the best ever in. Sports, definitely not Exactly that's
WHAT i was hoping you would. Say it's something that
you couldn't just give to. Anybody i'll give him that
you kind of have to be, it get. It but
(01:31:47):
but you could you could call him Mister. November, no
what about Captain Clutch NO Dj, nope the captain it?
Speaker 3 (01:31:59):
Is are those the only?
Speaker 8 (01:32:01):
Four?
Speaker 3 (01:32:01):
Those are? It that's so. Stupid so.
Speaker 1 (01:32:06):
Team captains in, sports like when you look at for,
example we just had The Super bowl captains come to
mid midfield for a way over the top coin, TOSS.
Speaker 2 (01:32:17):
I mean the captains of the game that. Day because
most teams have more than three team captains and only
three or fewer players go out there for the coin
toss most.
Speaker 1 (01:32:26):
Weeks but a team captain is it is a weekly
thing in THE, nfl is it?
Speaker 2 (01:32:31):
Not it changes a team captain to go out for
the coin. Toss, Yes but like The, texans we know
them the. Best you guys know them the. Best The
texans elect so far in their history and then certainly
during the three years Of, demiko which are the ones
that matter the. Most they elect team captains at the
beginning of the. Season they announce it to everybody. Here
obviously the players already know who those will. Be all
five of, them or six of them or seven of
(01:32:52):
them do not go out weekly for the coin.
Speaker 1 (01:32:54):
TOSS i Guess i've never really paid attention to whether
or not baseball teams do, this as.
Speaker 2 (01:32:58):
Much like who's The astros team? Captain, well you would
think it'd Be Jose. Altuve, WELL i know who the
leader of the team, is but is he the team?
Captain did he get named team captain By joe or
By carlos or By? Jordan and, say we had a vote,
here everybody passed the hat around and put a name in,
(01:33:19):
there and it looks like we got one For, jose
we got two For, jose we got three For. Jose,
well here's one For. CARLOS i got another For. Carlos
here's one For. Jake here's one For. Chazz isn't here,
anymore here's one FOR i, mean do you think you
need To yankees have some history with. It so they're
(01:33:41):
kind of out on this island all amongst, themselves and
this story comes to our. Airways, basically because The mets
are the opposite of. That the history of The mets
is very opposite of The, yankees but they're also under new.
Management The yankees haven't been under new management in, forever
basically with The steinbrenner. Family But Steve cohen runs The
mets now. Rich he had a very profitable year as
(01:34:03):
a hedge fund, manager as in the best hedge fund
in terms of revenue this past. Year thirty two, BILLION
i think is the NUMBER.
Speaker 3 (01:34:10):
I saw earlier this.
Speaker 2 (01:34:11):
WEEK i, mean it's Not elon levels of, wealth BUT
i have to. SEE i KNOW i have the list.
SOMEWHERE i think he was one of two sports owners
in the hedge fund game that was on the.
Speaker 3 (01:34:20):
List but he, SAID i don't want. TO i, don't we.
DON'T i don't want a team. CAPTAIN i.
Speaker 2 (01:34:24):
Don't this is the owner of the team SAYING i
don't want team captains. Here you, know every year is,
different every team's. Different you, know figure it out over
the course of the. Season AND i didn't have any
issue with it at, all AND i didn't really wonder
if the players. Did but we don't have to wonder
anymore Since Francisco lindor Said i'm. Down that's fine with.
ME i don't have any issue with that. WHATSOEVER i respect.
Speaker 1 (01:34:45):
It this is definitely A steve front office type. Decision
at the end of the, day being named captain or,
Not i'm still going to act the. Same this isn't
something that will make me. Different i'm glad he put
everything to bed so that we can stop talking about
this move on, really so we can talking about it this.
Speaker 2 (01:35:04):
Much that as, crazy LIKE i don't even remember it
being a we, know and obviously this era Of astros
baseball is unlike almost any In Major League. Baseball The
astros have had the same guy and The astros put
out a really nice social tweet the other day Or
instagram posts the other day with Several astros current and
(01:35:24):
basically their baby picture as An. ASTRO i saw someone
repost it somewhere as picture of twenty twelve and then
picture here in twenty twenty, six AND i looked at
not only his face but the face he was making
for the, photo like the, pose AND i responded back
to this, PERSON i, said, oh this absolutely must have
been taken from His Tiger beat photo shoot With Charlie,
(01:35:45):
Sheen Kirk cameron and Probably John.
Speaker 3 (01:35:47):
STAMOS i mean in twenty.
Speaker 2 (01:35:49):
Twelve i'm just trying to bring the eras together because
there was No Tiger beat in twenty, sixteen and people
who knew Of Tiger beat would recognize those names along
With MICHAEL. J. Fox, well that's when they went out of.
PRINT i know that you may find this.
Speaker 1 (01:36:03):
Hard to be some Other Team bop, magazines there's one
that is, one but, yeah it's.
Speaker 2 (01:36:09):
Just do you need us to know That dave voted
some person this name this? Captain or do you walk
in the Door Mike burrows walks in the door here
this spring for the first, time we've talked to players
so many years in a row because of how much
activity The astros have had at the. Deadline verlander's one of,
them you, Know cole's another That Zach greanky's another who
(01:36:30):
didn't fit in. HERE i, mean the list is tiny
because everybody knows who's in charge and how they run
the clubhouse and who's the quote unquote captain and in their,
case he didn't say. Anything josel two is not giving
speech to the. Team carlos Might Alex, bregman might you,
know address the team or feel like this is we
have a need to say. Something And i'm not Saying
jose's never done, it but he certainly doesn't do it very.
(01:36:52):
Often it's not in His nature's nature is to lead
by hey, man we're playing. Baseball guess what it's. Fun
look at me having a blast in my mid thirties
playing baseball at the major league, level just LIKE i
did four years ago and five years before that and
five years before. That this is the best time on.
Earth follow my. Lead let's play a, game and then
when we win all that we, win we're gonna go party.
(01:37:13):
After it'll be. Awesome and they just follow right. Along
very unassuming, leadership, right which isn't what you see in
every clubhouse or every locker. Room like on the football,
side every team at some point announces. It some teams
do only keep it weak to. Weak but here are
the five captains for The texans this. Year here are
the seven captains for The texans this. Year you're gonna
(01:37:34):
have at least somebody representing each part of the team, offense,
defense special. Teams BUT i don't know how important it.
Is don't The texans already? Know without us or without
them voting on. It they know the disease is a.
Leader they know That Will anderson's a.
Speaker 1 (01:37:51):
Leader going back to The, Mets Steve, cohen the, owner
meeting with reporters for the first time this, week said
not having a captain was his, decision and he characterized
the clubhouse as being unique and that he prefers to
let it sort itself out each. Year quote just my
own views on HOW i want a locker room to.
Be my view is every year the team's, different let
(01:38:15):
the team kind of figure it out in the locker
room rather than having a. Designation having a captain in
baseball doesn't happen. Often it's actually. Unusual and, then of,
course this Is wex's favorite part of the, article the next,
paragraph where it says the only captains In met's history
have Been Keith, Hernandez Gary, Carter John, franco And David,
wright who's playing career ended in twenty. Eighteen your favorite
(01:38:37):
of those, guys of, course being like it was a list.
Speaker 2 (01:38:39):
Of, yuck, yuck, Yuck AND i have no Care David wright,
playing AND i don't KNOW i have a negative a
vibe for, him but definitely for the. Others but he's
pretty much. Right and Then that's WHY i think the
players were on board with. It it's not that common
and it's totally, UNNECESSARY i think for, baseball the passion of.
IT i, mean you can bring all the energy to
a baseball game you, want you can be in the
(01:39:01):
right frame of mind all you. Want what happens before
a football, game those of you that walk into the
stadium early and members of the media who are always
in there. Early what happens before the game half an
hour forty five minutes before the, GAME a lot of.
Stretch Will Anderson junior or ziz Al shire Or Jalen
petrie or anybody Besides Derek Stingley junior Or Daniel hunter
(01:39:22):
gets in front of the team on the field before
they go back in the locker, room before introductions and,
kickoff and they give them this huge screaming let's get
hype for this. Game maybe it's somebody who's they're playing
their former. Team maybe it's just the point in the
year where it's time to hear From will whoever it.
IS i, MEAN i know there's one hundred and sixty
two of, them so it's again apples to oranges an.
(01:39:43):
Account but at no point ever does that happen doesn't
happen in basketball season.
Speaker 3 (01:39:47):
Either you don't need. That that's not part of what
you do to prepare for a.
Speaker 2 (01:39:50):
Game and the vibes of a football game and the
mental state you're in from the physical nature of the
game that it, requires it's totally. Different but not having
a captain in baseball is totally, Normal AND i did
Take my favorite part of the article is actually the
very first sentence that you read About Steve. Cohen Steve,
cohen who met with the media for the first time this,
(01:40:11):
week because he meets with the media all the. Time
he's Very Jerry jones in, that very, accessible and he's very,
around he's very, involved and he'd probably like to finally win.
Something i've been a long time, Obviously but they've had
some already under his, watch some colossal.
Speaker 1 (01:40:28):
Failures, yeah he's spending all this, money he's Spending dodger,
money but he's not Getting dodger. Results, well two of
their very goodest players went elsewhere for. Money do you
think he is going to be a fan of the?
Cap just, Kidding we already know. THAT i, mean the thing,
is he has more money than anybody In Major League,
baseball so he. REALLY i, Mean i'm sure he'd like
(01:40:51):
to save some of, IT i, guess but he's not gonna.
Speaker 3 (01:40:53):
CARE i, mean it's a.
Speaker 2 (01:40:54):
Businessman he SPENT i, mean he bought it to spend,
money that's the. Thing he didn't buy it to make
money necessarily. WIN i seem LIKE i. Can't AND i
saw this the other. Day somebody posted a video of
driving right By City. Field did you see?
Speaker 8 (01:41:09):
That?
Speaker 3 (01:41:09):
UHH i mean.
Speaker 2 (01:41:10):
It's just a COLOSSAL i mean it's Basically New york these.
DAYS i mean just almost people. Everywhere you're running into
all sorts of like drug, paraphernalia and it's not good
around that.
Speaker 3 (01:41:24):
Stadium kind of surprised. ME i don't.
Speaker 2 (01:41:26):
KNOW i have been To Yankee stadium and Not City
field Or Shay. Stadium don't make yourself out to A
Flushing queens very. Much, Oh i'm going to see The. Mets,
Okay i'm going to see The. Yankees oh that's. COOL
i mean there's a different, vibe isn't.
Speaker 1 (01:41:40):
There, Yeah, hey there's a different vibe When Tim legler
talks about basketball and he's gonna do just. THAT a
portion of his conversation With matt And ross from earlier today, Here,
well that's what.
Speaker 3 (01:41:53):
We need next.
Speaker 2 (01:41:57):
Halfway home on our number three on A friday. Afternoon
so for a brief, hiatus we step away from stone
Cold locks as our signature. Segment likely we'll slide into
THE a team draft sometime In. March there's still ongoing
negotiations between the three of us about exactly.
Speaker 3 (01:42:15):
What we will.
Speaker 2 (01:42:16):
Do but in the, interim it was great to Hear
Tim legler On Sports talk seven to ninety earlier. Today
he's a part of the broadcast crew For saturday night's
game at The garden on THE tv, side and it's
been a GREAT nba analyst for a number of years
over AT. Espn conversation about The Western, conference the state
of the, game they all the things that are going
on with the, league anti, tanking et. Cetera and then
(01:42:38):
this chunk we wanted to let you here here from
the visit with The Matt Thomas show With ross specifically
About Kevin, Durant Amen thompson and The Houston. Rockets this
portion of the conversation begins with his thoughts On Kevin
durant spoiler.
Speaker 3 (01:42:51):
Alert he thinks he's pretty.
Speaker 8 (01:42:52):
Good he's a machine and look AND i was watching
the game against The, hornets And i'm sitting there going
during his time in the, league right the number of
years he's been in the, league which, is you, know
approaching twenty. Years there has been no more shot to
me that is more automatic as a result Than Kevin
durant going to his right hand for a pull up jump.
(01:43:12):
Shot and you think how hard it is to be
efficient when you shoot a lot of contested jump shots
and you're basically a perimeter based, player which he, is
how hard it is to be efficient and get up
into that fifty percent field goal. Ranks the guy's done
it FOR i, believe thirteen consecutive. YEARS i, mean you
go look at the best mid range jump shooters in
the history's. League you look at guys Like Michael, Jordan
(01:43:35):
you look at guys At Kawhi. Leonard you, know their
longest streaks of their career are like five six years
in a. Row Kevin rantling thirteen years. Straight and to
be doing it at his age and to be that,
automatic particularly going to his right hand pull up fifteen
eighteen feet with his, length the natural lean, back you,
know the perfect shooting, mechanics you still marvel at, it
(01:43:57):
and on those nights when he does it in the fourth,
order like he did Against charlotte last, night you're still
just you, know it's it's awesome to. Watch you really
are kind of just watching this. Guy you're, going this
is one of the all time great generational talents and
he can still do it at that. Level and when
he's able to put together a stretch like that in
the fourth, quarter there's nothing you can do defensively to
(01:44:19):
be able to stop that because that shot is almost
impossible to deter because of the area of the floor
in which you're taking the. Shot you, know you can't
run out and take it out of his hands at
the three point. Line he doesn't have to get all
the way to the rim twelve to eighteen feet pull
up in a one on one. Situation it's as automatic
as it. Comes and he did it again last. Night
so you, know appreciate these, guys you, Know Steph, Curry Lebron,
(01:44:42):
James Kevin, durant you know these. Guys you don't know
how much longer you're going to get to see, him
BUT i think you need to just appreciate what you're
taking in every night because they're one off each of
those guys in what they do And. Kevin For Kevin,
durant that means contested mid Range jeff, shots very few,
Guys ansley, guys and the history of this league has
done it as good as he.
Speaker 4 (01:45:02):
Does russ with you here as, Well tim In, houston
and On Kevin. Durant you, know we love hearing him
here In. Houston i'm a long horn. FAN i Love Kevin.
Durant But i'm just curious your perspective because there are
some reasons to be A Kevin durant, detractor because of
the burner, stuff joining already Made Golden state team and
now this even more recent burner. Stuff how do you
(01:45:24):
weigh all of that with somebody who is an all
time great and right now as we, speak chasing Down
Michael jordan on the all time scoring.
Speaker 8 (01:45:30):
List. Yeah, LOOK i think for me it's. Easy i'm
a basketball, Analyst so some of the stuff that with
the burner accounts and some of the stuff you're going
to see on social, MEDIA i kind of stay away from.
That my job is to break Down Kevin durant the,
player and, look sometimes that does bleed over into locker
room stuff or leadership or decisions that guys make in
their careers when they change, teams like and it's obviously
(01:45:52):
part of my, job you're going to comment on. That
but when push comes to, Shove i'm sitting down And
i'm about to watch these guys. Play i'm going to
focus so what this guy is as a, player and
how unique he is and how talented he. Is and
when it's all said and, done you know there will
be a time and place when all these things get
put into perspective where do they rank? Historically when you
(01:46:14):
start to put together these lists top, ten top twenty
players of all, time all of this stuff will factor into.
It but for me in the, Moment i'm just trying
to Appreciate Kevin duranta, player and all that stuff kind
of keeps to the. Side i'm looking at him and
what he does and the unique challenge that he represents for.
Speaker 4 (01:46:32):
Defenses continuing With Tim legler here on A Sports talk seven,
NINETY i want to get your thoughts on him In thompson,
especially you, know First Team All, defense great defender and
a blur in. Transition but the thing that has been
holding him back has been his jump. Shot And i'm
just curious you as a great jump, shooter your perspective
on how do you find or get somebody to find
(01:46:55):
their ceiling as a jump, shooter especially young in their.
Career it's something we've said About giannis and Maybe Russell
westbrook and other guys we can point to to say
if their jump shot would get, there and sometimes that
just doesn't come to.
Speaker 8 (01:47:09):
Pass, YEAH i think, look one of the things that
Aman thompson is going to be dealing with is the
fact that he's so successful in other areas of the
game and really still a very effective offensive player without
having to do. That sometimes it requires guys being forced
into it because their weaknesses are exposed to such an
extent that now they're not even as effective offensively as
(01:47:32):
they need to be to help their team. Win it's
not really the case with, him AND i was watching
it last, night like he had situations where they clearly
were determined not to rotate to him when they were
trying to run extra traffic At duran Or, shengun and
they're saying they're going to live with Aman thompson catching
the ball with fifteen twenty feet of space at the
three point line and live with the results and a
couple of those he shot, missed you, know they weren't particularly.
(01:47:53):
Close but then there's other plays he catches it and
regardless of all the, space he still drives it down the,
gut and he's so athletic that he can come to
a jump stop in the, paint you, know hang in
the air longer than other guys and still make a
play at the rim or make a pass from that
position to put pressure on the. Defense so he's still
able to be effective and put up actually pretty respectable
(01:48:15):
stat lines, offensively even though that shot right now is
a win for the defense if he takes, it very
few guys have been able to pull that off. Normally
if you're exposed to that, extent it becomes a real
problem and it becomes a dilemma for the coach to
keep you on the. Floor it's not the case with
tom And, thompson because clearly you want his, defense but
there's a lot of great defenders in this league that
(01:48:35):
couldn't shoot. That eventually they're taking off the floor because
the weakness starts to overshadow what they are doing well.
Offensively it's not really the case With Aman. Thompson he's
still able to walk that line as a playmaker and
a finisher around the rim and a, rebounder and like
the push he has up the floor in, transition there's
still so many things he can do well offensively without. That,
(01:48:57):
now if he ever figures that, out and you, know
he he just gets confidence and he continues to work,
on you, know tightening up his mechanics and there are
some things mechanically that he can work on if he
gets to that. Place, man now you have an all
league caliber. Player so we'll. See he's very very. Young
he's still having, success which hasn't forced him into addressing,
(01:49:17):
this probably to the extent that he needs. To by all,
accounts he's a, grindary he's in the, gym he. Works
so if that's the, CASE i think it will get.
There and certainly he's already shown great dramatic improvement from
the foul, line like that's really important for. Him but
now the three point shot would be the next, thing
and maybe over time next couple of seasons you might,
see you, know a pretty dramatic improvement there as.
Speaker 2 (01:49:37):
Well tim's a good one recognizing there at the end
of that conversation we played for you and again you
can catch it in, full including his thoughts on The
Western conference as we get into the second part of
the season Post All star break portion season full interview
available Via Sports talk seven to ninety dot. Com going
from sixty eight percent in back to back seasons to
open up his career as a free throw shooter and
now he's at seventy nine percent of this. Season that
(01:49:59):
is enormous hopefully permanent, improvement if not more so moving
forward the rest of his offensive, GAME i honestly has
taken a step. Back he's shooting much more poorly from
everywhere else on the, floor which is more about where
they've used, HIM i, think and the comfort there than anything.
Speaker 3 (01:50:15):
Else maybe he'll work WITH altbi on his free throw.
Speaker 2 (01:50:17):
Shooting it's OUTB i can't make free throws, sometimes BUT
i was An All. Star appreciate Uh legler joining the station,
today one of the all time great three point shooters
of his. Era you, know, Records records are made to be,
broken so they, say even Though i've heard it a
million times AND i do not believe, them but we'll
tell you about one record that could be falling.
Speaker 9 (01:50:37):
Soon it's the Eighteen Sports talk seven Nineties Space City Home.
Speaker 1 (01:50:51):
Network SO i saw this earlier. Today it's just kind of,
random but it made me. Think you, know there's records
and As Lebron, james for, example gets each passing game
they talk, about they'll make up, something they'll they'll make
(01:51:11):
any sort of mark just to talk about. Him but
there are like the tried and true, records and some of,
these when it comes TO nba, SPECIFICALLY i don't think
they're ever going to be, Touched LIKE i don't Think
John stockton's fifteen and six career assists is going to be,
sniffed just LIKE i don't think When lebron is done
(01:51:36):
that anybody's going to come close to scoring that many.
Speaker 3 (01:51:39):
Points, again you'd have, to you, know play. Forever you'd
have to be.
Speaker 1 (01:51:45):
Good then you'd have to play, forever and then you'd
have TO i mean, again a lot of these are
just both.
Speaker 3 (01:51:51):
Of those longevity. Records same With Nolan ryan.
Speaker 1 (01:51:53):
Strikeouts same he's a couple, thousand or ACTUALLY i think
he's five.
Speaker 3 (01:51:59):
Somethings someone whoever's behind him is.
Speaker 2 (01:52:01):
Four Randy johnson is the only one with who has
a four within a. Thousand, again he's got, five seven
hundred and fourteen and there's only one other person who's
even eclipsed four thousand.
Speaker 1 (01:52:11):
Brands, yeah so he's got he's actually closer to, six
which is just. Insane and, again longevity went.
Speaker 2 (01:52:17):
Into, it and like we're about to see as you
get some more some of the more of these basketball,
records nobody that's pitching now is even gonna get close
to anybody on the top. Whatever nobody does that. ANYMORE
i Mean Justine erlander And max Shirt, well they don't
pitch as many. Innings they're not likely to pitch that
many as many years because money's part of, it and
(01:52:39):
then the game itself is the other.
Speaker 1 (01:52:40):
Part Ac green's most CONSECUTIVE nba games played with one ninety.
Two if you're, like never gonna be, Broken, well if,
YOU i, mean he didn't play a ton of, minutes did?
Speaker 8 (01:52:56):
He he was a?
Speaker 1 (01:52:57):
Starter he WAS i GUESS i just feel like MAYBE
i had something to go along with.
Speaker 3 (01:53:04):
It just the fact that he didn't play as many.
Speaker 1 (01:53:05):
Minutes most minutes average in a single season forty eight
and a half is just insane. Too like a lot
of these most points in a game one, Hundred like
the closest we've seen Is Devin booker And Kobe, bryant
who each modern. Day, yeah, yeah here's the one THAT
I Thoughtovan mitchell he got a, seventy damn got a.
Seven Did devin get?
Speaker 8 (01:53:25):
Eighty?
Speaker 3 (01:53:26):
YEAH i thought he. Did he's.
Speaker 2 (01:53:27):
In another guy was seventy. Nine another guy in the. Seventies,
okay here's the.
Speaker 1 (01:53:33):
Deal the one that stands out to me THAT i
think actually not only could Be, eclipse BUT i think
the way that THE nba game is, played it should be.
Eclipsed provided the you, know the parameters are there the night.
Happens you got to have a team that's gonna make.
Shots Scott skiles still holds the record for most assists
(01:53:56):
in a game with thirty and the REASON i say
that that's probably going to there's a couple REASONS i
think it'll get. Broken what's crazy is that he did
that back in nineteen Ninety december, thirtieth nineteen, NINETY a
couple of weeks, Later stockton had twenty, eight so it
(01:54:16):
got close to being broken after no one even approached.
That but NO nba player has had more than twenty
five in a single game since that. Time Kevin, Johnson Jason,
kidd And Rajon rondo got the.
Speaker 2 (01:54:31):
Closest they all had twenty five assists in a. Game,
yeah so not more than.
Speaker 3 (01:54:35):
More than twenty.
Speaker 2 (01:54:35):
Five, yes don't you feel like with TODAY'S nba scoring
the way it, is this is easily the most achievable
of all these marks we're talking.
Speaker 3 (01:54:45):
About one more?
Speaker 2 (01:54:46):
Question, okay so is it a player that's currently in the,
league because you're talking about how the league is currently.
PLAYED i mean probably then the only PERSON i would
even try to say could do it Is Tyrese halibert
because he has a twenty three assist game and could
(01:55:06):
play a game like, that And Rick carlisle in the
group they have, there maybe there's a lot of shots
to be, made But i'm looking at active players who've
been anywhere close to, it and the only other active
player that's anywhere near that is probably not going to
have any twenty assist games with The Sacramento, kings That's Russell.
Westbrook it just happened the other day and nobody noticed
(01:55:28):
because everybody's so busy with the. Tanking Isaiah collier just
played back to back forty eight minute. Games he's the
backup point, guard but With george out For. Utah he
played both, games played all forty eight, minutes and in
one of those two games he had twenty two. ASSISTS
a couple of years into the, league out of sc
if former McDonald's All, AMERICAN i mean a player.
Speaker 3 (01:55:48):
Who's he's a big. Deal he is a, huge pass,
first creative.
Speaker 2 (01:55:52):
Guard he's offense is way behind his ability to run
a team at this point in his.
Speaker 3 (01:55:55):
Career so something like.
Speaker 2 (01:55:57):
That, Sure AND i think there's a list of ELEVEN
nba records that you were looking. AT i would totally
agree this is the one that's most. Likely but it's
not Gonna, no nobody's gonna get. THAT i don't think
once you get to twenty four or, five maybe your
teammates would really try to, help and maybe the other
team would would be so inept at stopping.
Speaker 3 (01:56:15):
You maybe it could. Happen most of these other records are.
Speaker 2 (01:56:17):
Preposterous you mentioned a bunch of the longevity, ones but
The wilt, records and they only put one on. There
twenty one hundred rebounds in a, Season.
Speaker 3 (01:56:30):
Well he had one hundred points in a game, too.
Speaker 2 (01:56:32):
Right but one hundred points in a game if somebody
eighty average.
Speaker 3 (01:56:37):
Forty eight point five minutes per.
Speaker 2 (01:56:38):
Contest, well he started HIS nba career averaging twenty five
rebounds a game every year or, better and twenty five
rebounds a game if you're out there for eighty, Games,
well it's gonna get you to two. Thousand you know
where people are currently in THE. NBA a season he
got nine hundred and he got a. Thousand oh my.
God Andre drummond had a thirteen hundred. Rebounds, wow this is.
(01:57:01):
Amazing in the last forty years or forty five, YEARS
i think the only fifteen hundred rebound season and it
only happened once Was Dennis Rodd. RODMAN i mean we're
talking about two. Thousand barkley didn't have. One, OH i, mean,
WELL i take it. Back he could have had. One
he just did not lead the. LEAGUE i don't believe
he did that record just for him a seasonal, thing totally,
(01:57:22):
unbreakable and there's like twenty Of wilts that are totally
individual seasons.
Speaker 3 (01:57:26):
Worthy the game is totally.
Speaker 2 (01:57:27):
Different he averaged thirty nine and a half shots a
game in a season in his.
Speaker 3 (01:57:31):
Career that's a lot of green.
Speaker 2 (01:57:32):
Light that's twice as many shots As Kevin durant took last.
Night but you know the one THAT i want to see.
Broken it's not the. Assists BUT i don't know which.
Speaker 1 (01:57:42):
One most technical fouls in a season forty one For, Rashid.
Speaker 3 (01:57:48):
Well the current forty one. Texts the current leader has.
Speaker 2 (01:57:52):
Seventeen, Dylan, yes his seventeenth technical had him earn the
suspension that went along with.
Speaker 1 (01:57:58):
It what Does draymond have right? Now he's kind of
TO i think he's at. Thirteen he's tamped tampered back
a little.
Speaker 8 (01:58:05):
Bit.
Speaker 2 (01:58:05):
Well dylan, ALSO i think has actually been whistled for
twenty this, year but three of them have been.
Speaker 1 (01:58:10):
Rescinded, yeah forty one is like why they invented the
once you get to sixteen you're suspended. RULE i Mean
rashid would get, one like he'd wake up and have
a technical and he earned.
Speaker 3 (01:58:23):
Them oh get me? Wrong uh what is? It what
is the?
Speaker 1 (01:58:26):
Rule by the, way sixteen you get, suspended and then after,
that what's do you have to accumulate several more before
you're suspended?
Speaker 2 (01:58:32):
Again you'd won? More you get kind of a break
of two each additional. Technical each two additional technicals get
you another game.
Speaker 3 (01:58:40):
Suspension eighteen twenty twenty, two et. CETERA i want.
Speaker 2 (01:58:44):
Forty two bad it's not, halfing, like look at how
Hard dylan works to get.
Speaker 3 (01:58:48):
Them he's not.
Speaker 1 (01:58:49):
King then when you're getting, suspended it's actually. Impossible you
won't have you'll run of. Games you gotta start Like Opening, Night,
MAN i need two right?
Speaker 3 (01:58:56):
Away all, right good stuff right? There five o'clock hour is.
Speaker 1 (01:58:59):
Next it will include duh football at? Five what happens
when THE nfl goat pisses off a bunch OF ww?
Speaker 3 (01:59:07):
Wrestlers you'll hear that. Next the ad On Sports talk
seven ninety mention that THE nfl goat and a bunch
OF ww.
Speaker 1 (01:59:17):
Wrestlers what Did Joe montana do Not Barry manilow's look?
Alike what did no not? Him either or him or?
Him what Did bridget moynihan's former boyfriend do? There it
is all, Right So Tom brady is he can basically.
Speaker 2 (01:59:38):
Do whatever he wants at this. Point, right he's ON,
tv part owner in The. Raiders he's got all the,
RINGS tb twelve. Thriving, yeah it's got a clothing. Line
avocado ice cream has never been more. Popular wells are growing,
up girl. Too all of that and he's been roasted
and it was the most successful one starring AN nfl
quarterback star.
Speaker 3 (01:59:59):
Studded.
Speaker 1 (01:59:59):
Yeah so last week he was On Logan paul's podcast
and he And Logan paul were talking about athletic skills
for What logan does compared to those OF nfl.
Speaker 2 (02:00:13):
Players what Does logan? Do he fights? People is he a? Boxer,
sure But Jake paul's a. BOXER i don't. Know i'm
Not i'm just, asking.
Speaker 1 (02:00:23):
WELL i Think Logan paul is like multi, Talented SO
i don't want To.
Speaker 3 (02:00:26):
They're talking about the athletic, skills, gotcha, Right, okay.
Speaker 1 (02:00:29):
So he says to, Him brady, says, no you're not the.
Level that's first of all that. Sentence, now you're not the.
Level listen to. ME i played. Quarterback, yeah but just the.
Phrasing not on the. Level, no you're not the. Level
that's just. Awesome you're a good. Athlete but, honestly When
i'm thinking Of Saquon barkley And i'm thinking Of Odell,
(02:00:51):
Beckham he's basically saying it's not. You then he says the,
following it's. CUTE i LOVE. Wwe it's very, cute but
this is real, football real. Competition let's see if you
can bring.
Speaker 2 (02:01:05):
It. Now that's a very cleverly worded, statement though he's
not talking about. ATHLETICISM i mean you can easily take
that to mean it has nothing to do with, athleticism
because now you're actually trying to win an event with
two athletically get well twenty two athletically gifted, people and
(02:01:27):
we don't KNOW i hope they don't know who's supposed to,
win or who's planning to, win or who they've decided to.
Win there's AN nda. Involved what's THE nda non disclosure?
Agreements so you can't give the script. Away let's just
get to one thing out of the, way right out
of the. Gate if you're talking about athletic, ability the
athlete that you are watching. Perform if you are watching THE,
(02:01:50):
wwe you are watching some exceptionally finely tuned athletes at.
Work it might not be in the sense of team.
Sports and you, know he's throwing a, ball you're trying
to hit. It he's throwing a, pass you're trying to
break it. Up he's trying to block, you you're trying
to run through, them or he's trying to dunk On Ryan.
Kulkbrenner but he's denied at the. Rim what an awkward looking.
(02:02:13):
Individual but you can't deny what they're out there, doing,
Right AND i don't mean climbing, CAGES i mean jumping off,
CAGES i mean flying through the, AIR i mean lifting,
UP i mean everything about.
Speaker 1 (02:02:27):
It just the phrase knowing how to. Fall, yeah people
don't even think about, that.
Speaker 2 (02:02:31):
And it might require totally different things, again hand eye coordination, maybe.
ISN'T i mean there's plenty of people who are athletic
and they look like they in the one hundredth day
on the baseball.
Speaker 1 (02:02:41):
Field they would look like it was their first. Day
well you, know oh that's. EASY i can go through
a table. Too i'm A Bill's mafia. Member, yeah but
can you do it from thirty feet without breaking your?
Speaker 3 (02:02:51):
Neck there's skills to, this there's.
Speaker 2 (02:02:53):
Levels and we are clearly everybody should know by. Now
how many people in THE wa W e or wrestling in.
GENERAL i mean they They why are they? There they
were awesome football, players they were, Wrestlers they were in
a number of different athletically based.
Speaker 3 (02:03:11):
They Were olympic golders.
Speaker 2 (02:03:13):
Games, yes and the case Of Kurt angle and there
was obviously he was a, wrestler did wrestling professional and
then he went into m M a and when came.
Speaker 3 (02:03:22):
Back so that's take it the other.
Speaker 2 (02:03:25):
Way let's say you know which which of these long
TIME i, MEAN i don't know if there is even
a take. It take it the other, way because they're doing,
both like these longtime football. Players, well and then they
don't end up in THE nfl for very, long and
then they wrestle and sometimes they, can sometimes they. Can't
there's also an element that has nothing to do with your.
Athleticism because you're in THE, nfl they could probably figure
(02:03:48):
out a way to script you into. Superstardom but just
because you're in THE nfl doesn't mean you carry the
other part of what makes a wrestler, popular awesome and,
marketable your, story your, personality.
Speaker 3 (02:04:02):
Charisma, yeah LIKE i don't Think Tom brady.
Speaker 2 (02:04:05):
Would be a very GOOD we superstar totally because his
plastic face would not be anything other than. Boring but
which one of his currently living former tight ends would.
Speaker 1 (02:04:16):
Be gronk has already been a part Of WrestleMania Like
ringside got in the, ring.
Speaker 2 (02:04:23):
And even though he's he's awesome personality and off the
cuff nonsense as a football former football, player.
Speaker 3 (02:04:30):
And as an announcer and as a.
Speaker 2 (02:04:32):
Spokesperson but even he has a ways to, go a
long way to go to do what wrestlers do from
a vocabulary and speaking and, standpoint.
Speaker 1 (02:04:43):
Not EVEN i, mean that's why The, rock who was
a former collegiate football player who lost his starting job
To Warren sap famously at The university Of. Miami you,
know he always kind of had the gift of, gab
and he grew up in the business because his dad
and grandfather were BOTH i, mean he's a third generation.
Superstar but, like, so how did the wrestlers feel About.
(02:05:06):
Thomas they weren't happy because there was a W w
TWO k creator fest this week because the game's coming
out and it's gonna be awesome seeing. Punk Paul, hayman
friend of the, show and others shared their. Reaction one
of the things That hayman said, was What's Tom brady?
Done he's throwing a football across the field that was
caught By. Gronkowski gronkowski deserves the, Credit belichick and his
(02:05:31):
girlfriend deserve the, credit But Tom, brady that's, classical all?
Speaker 2 (02:05:36):
Right up a wrestler's charisma. Alley he brought In belichick
and his. Girlfriend that's. Perfect that's What tom could never.
Do he doesn't have.
Speaker 1 (02:05:46):
That let's listen To hayman and others responding To Tom.
Speaker 3 (02:05:50):
Brady, Here Tom, brady he CALLED, wwq what do you
think about? THAT i don't get to know. It it
just comes to a place of. Ignorance What's Tom brady?
Speaker 8 (02:05:58):
Done he's throwing football across the field that was caught By.
Speaker 3 (02:06:02):
Gronkowski that's wrong with. Cute i'm Cute tom And kowski
deserves the.
Speaker 8 (02:06:07):
Credit billichick and his girlfriend deserves the.
Speaker 3 (02:06:11):
Credit But Tom.
Speaker 6 (02:06:12):
BRADY i would love to See Tom brady step in
and see what it actually is and see how cute he.
Speaker 3 (02:06:17):
Thinks it is tough.
Speaker 6 (02:06:19):
Those who think it's cute and it's fluffy and it's
all sweet and.
Speaker 3 (02:06:22):
Stuff so you can come and.
Speaker 7 (02:06:23):
Try you can lift up some boots and then let's
watch you.
Speaker 2 (02:06:25):
Puke this now is starting to sound like WHAT i
thought he was doing when he said he doesn't have
a dog in the fight about The Super bowl that
included The.
Speaker 3 (02:06:34):
Patriots he played me.
Speaker 2 (02:06:37):
Again, yeah he's just saying stuff that he knows will Generate,
hey we're talking About Tom brady. Again, well for whatever
benefit he gets from, it that's What Now i'm starting
to feel what he's.
Speaker 3 (02:06:47):
Doing it's.
Speaker 2 (02:06:49):
Cute that's like SOMETHING i would say during a conversation
on THE a team about oiled up.
Speaker 1 (02:06:54):
Athletes you'd sound Like ross So. Logan, paul by the, way,
said if you put me In Tom brady up athletically
against one another in a majority of, SPORTS i Bet
i'd be more. Athletic he used the word cute when
talking ABOUT W. DOE i think in many ways football
is also.
Speaker 2 (02:07:14):
Cute, now keep in, Mind brady was one of many
players drafted in both THE Nfl draft and The Major
League Baseball.
Speaker 3 (02:07:23):
Draft pretty good. Athlete him And Drew henson had that in.
Speaker 2 (02:07:26):
Common And Drew, Henson Russell, Wilson Michigan winfield L way
And YET i think the two guys we'd probably put
at the top of the list in baseball football athletically
gifted category Are dion and.
Speaker 1 (02:07:40):
BO i mean they're, seriously, like who who's the athlete
that would compare to those two? Guys because you just
said the two, Names, like think about it right.
Speaker 2 (02:07:52):
Now in the you know their most popular people right
now are the headliners on a card they would? Have
who look at? Them these wrestlers wde right, Now who
do you think of the best? Athletes put them in another.
Sport who's the guy you think or the guys you
think would succeed the, most not in, football in some other,
sport in basketball or in, baseball even not knowing their athletic,
(02:08:13):
background just looking at the way they look, athletically does
anyone immediately jump out to you because you think of
the biggest. Guys maybe they're too big to maybe think
about them on the basketball court or think.
Speaker 3 (02:08:24):
About them on the baseball.
Speaker 1 (02:08:26):
Diamond BUT i, see LIKE i think some of these,
guys like, Well Roman reigns was also a football player
At Georgia.
Speaker 2 (02:08:33):
TECH i feel like all of these guys probably could
find a home at some level of.
Speaker 1 (02:08:38):
Football and you Remember William goldberg with The falcons back
in the, Day, YEAH i, do And BROCK i think
left to go try out for The vikings at one.
Speaker 3 (02:08:47):
Point so, YEAH i don't mean.
Speaker 2 (02:08:48):
To say that's the, thing like could they then also
play one of the other two sports.
Speaker 1 (02:08:52):
And a lot of tight end Like GRONK i think
was a basketball. PLAYER a lot of tight ends play,
basketball so there's always, That, UH i guess cross pollination
if you. Will but, Yeah Tom brady being kind of
pudgy and dowey at his combine video picture all that
as a.
Speaker 2 (02:09:06):
Quarterback back, then quarterbacks weren't chiseled machines of, athleticism most of.
Them but he really didn't stand out honestly physically at the.
Combine AND i don't mean stand out in a good.
WAY i mean that's what quarterbacks looked. Like they don't
look like that now. More most of them are in
a little bit different physical. Condition they're all rocked. Up
but back, then if he didn't do what he did
(02:09:28):
in THE, nfl nobody would think twice about what he
looked at like the, combine because you looked like everybody
else at that. Position it was, Cute, Doe, yeah dowey and.
Cute so a couple many people have thought he was.
Cute sounds like A pillsbury, commercial a very rich pills very.
Commercial Nicki glazer had the best roast of, him, Though
by the, way, yeah so is he is he going
(02:09:53):
to be asked to be a Roaster When belichick finally
And jordan talks him into it, like Is jordan going
to be able to talk him into doing?
Speaker 3 (02:10:02):
That would you sit?
Speaker 1 (02:10:03):
DOWN i, MEAN i know you AND i would do
you think as many people would sit down and watch
A belichick roast as people Watch nothing's.
Speaker 2 (02:10:09):
Ever there's a few athletes out there that could match,
that but not, many And bill's not among these sports
figures that.
Speaker 3 (02:10:14):
COULD i Want. Tiger tiger would be an all Times.
Speaker 2 (02:10:17):
Jordan to get roasted because he's going to take it very.
Personally jordan won't do. That now he's on the top
of the sports world. Again, yeah because he's a race
car driving enthusiast. Owner, yeah he's an owner anyone that's
put some on top of the. World he didn't do
that the last time he was an. Owner he had
to settle a lawsuit before this.
Speaker 3 (02:10:36):
One ah.
Speaker 1 (02:10:37):
True all, right we are going to bring some absolutely
awful news TO nfl fans everywhere when we come back.
Quick just to kind of update a story we talked
about earlier this. Week did you see That Mick cronin
apologize To Steven jamerson for injecting.
Speaker 3 (02:10:53):
Him i'll say you one thing about.
Speaker 2 (02:10:55):
THAT i did see, it AND i listened to nearly
all four minutes of, it except for the part where
he was talking about as nil. Deal oh you, know
he has an nil. Deal it's a really nice. Guy
he was very. Heartfelt he meant what he. Said but
remember he's apologizing for how he treated the, player which
is WHAT i told most, people or WHAT i, said
that's what he did, wrong and reporters and who they're talking, to, coaches,
(02:11:19):
athletes that stuff happens all the. Time he's kind of a,
jerk and it'll happen. Again he didn't apologize for, that
nor DID i expect him to in or DO i
need him. TO i think he apologizing to the player
does matter BECAUSE i think what he did to that,
player which he acknowledged today was totally out of. Line
even for what he thought, HAPPENED i thought was totally
out of, line as we suspected he thought that in
a twenty five point, blowout he went out there basically
(02:11:41):
tried to take the guy, Out and he, said you,
Know i'm, SHORT i was on the. SIDELINES i couldn't really,
see but that's what he assumed happened based on how
the opposing player got up and got in his, face
and then he saw how his own player reacted to,
it and again it didn't. Escalate everybody got. Separated there's
no punch or storre and they just got chest to.
Chest but he immediately grabbed him and ashered him down
(02:12:02):
the end of the bench and on into the locker,
room and he apologized for, that.
Speaker 3 (02:12:05):
AS i think he should.
Speaker 2 (02:12:06):
Have from a bigger picture, STANDPOINT i don't think the
player did something to warrant. That he absolutely embarrasses him
by doing. That and even though nil money is what
it is and that's why he's there and that's what
we'll keep him, there it's probably something he. RECOGNIZED i
was wrong AND i reacted, poorly AND i didn't really
have the full.
Speaker 3 (02:12:24):
PICTURE i was. Wrong you were right.
Speaker 2 (02:12:26):
Exactly by the, way we will also have tickets to
give away in the final segment of the, show four
pairs of tickets to each To Rascal flats over At
Rodeo houston first, week and two pairs Of Dave matthews band.
Tickets we'll talk about things here this hour like we always,
do and then a final segment of the show will
ask you about something we talked, about so you'll definitely
know the answer because you've been listening to THE a Team,
(02:12:49):
Friday february.
Speaker 3 (02:12:50):
Twentieth here's a.
Speaker 1 (02:12:52):
Quote there is communication THE wnba and the know, although go.
AHEAD i would think if you WERE espn and you
were going to replace baseball with A wnba On sunday,
nights you might want to make sure the season's going
to start on.
Speaker 2 (02:13:07):
Times all, Right so start that statement again And i'll
interrupt you with another bad.
Speaker 3 (02:13:10):
Guess there is.
Speaker 2 (02:13:11):
Communication, OH mlbpa has a new interim for Guy Bruce,
meyer and they've started communications. Already no wrong, Again, yep go,
ahead you wanna try, AGAIN i will let you go this.
Speaker 1 (02:13:20):
Time there is. Communication that's the main. Thing And i've
said this. Before as long as there's, Communication i'm. Good
that means people want to move. FORWARD i think that's
Where travis. Is that quote is courtesy Of chiefs head
Coach Andy, reid and he was asked About Travis kelsey's
(02:13:45):
status for next season during a news conference ahead of
THE Nfl, combine which is, actually by the, way going
down next. Week his demeanor and positive tone when describing
those talks With kelsey seemed to indicate thirteen year veteran
could be leaning towards re signing with The chiefs for
at least another season of instead of.
Speaker 2 (02:14:07):
Retiring SIX nfl tight ends had seven hundred and seventy
five yards receiving last. Year Dalton schultz was one of.
Them Travis kelsey was. Another so you're saying he's still.
Effective i'm saying he had a much better season last
year THAN i expected him, to which suggests he can
still play effectively and probably wants another go at it
(02:14:29):
because of what not what this season was for him
personally or even with the, team which obviously was. Down
it was more ABOUT i didn't really get to finish
With patrick the WAY i.
Speaker 3 (02:14:39):
WANTED i don't mean winning.
Speaker 2 (02:14:40):
EITHER i mean he probably just wants to play a
full season With Patrick mahomes and then call it a.
Career however that plays out next. YEAR i wonder if
he also will just go about it this. Way, YES
i feel like we can still play, well we can still.
WIN i want to, win AND i want to, finish
AND i want to go out there and play well,
again and this is my last. SEASON i kind of
feel like he will go out there knowing it this
(02:15:01):
time that this is the last season for. Him his
body's telling him that he knows he can still play
at a good enough level to be a good, player
but also knows that this is probably, it AND i
want to give it another shot to have the kind
of season. Together SO i kind of feel like the
two of, them it does mean something to each of
them what they've accomplished, together certainly offensively and obviously as a.
(02:15:21):
Team HE'S i mean leading the team in, targets, receptions, yards,
touchdowns and receiving first, downs, which by the, way he
led with touchdowns with.
Speaker 3 (02:15:34):
Five that says more about their receiving core than anything.
Speaker 2 (02:15:37):
ELSE i think it also tells you if you weren't paying,
attention AND i think everybody. Was who else was there all? Year,
right Either Rashi rice was suspended or, hurt or this
player was, hurt or this player is your fourth best. Receiver,
anyway he was heat and then else got. Hurt kelsey
was out there all year pretty much nobody else was
on their offense from a skill, position he would have
had another reception if it wasn't. Intercepted. Line that is,
(02:16:01):
true and you don't even know what next year holds.
For they're super, talented but much more involved in bad
things than good. Things were She rice he's embroiled in another.
Speaker 1 (02:16:10):
Lawsuit, yeah they're for all the cap space they. Cleared
i'll be interested to see what they do BECAUSE i right,
now why would you pick them to even win the?
Speaker 2 (02:16:20):
Division, yeah. NOBODY i don't think anybody. Will, honestly, well you're,
right why would? YOU i, mean if they have holes
on their, team they now have question marks about what
their offense is capable. Of even with the return Of Eric,
enemy it's still more about who he has to work.
Speaker 1 (02:16:34):
With, clearly the last Time Eric benemy called plays for,
them the two guys were talking about were what five years?
Speaker 3 (02:16:40):
Younger, no there's just. Elite they were there at the
top of their.
Speaker 2 (02:16:43):
GAME i Mean Pat mahomes is the best quarterback in
THE nfl when we start twenty twenty.
Speaker 3 (02:16:47):
Six who's saying?
Speaker 8 (02:16:48):
THAT i.
Speaker 2 (02:16:49):
DON'T i don't think many people, will if. Any AND
i don't mean he's awful or, anything but he's coming
off of. Injury he obviously did not have a strong
year this year, individually even though it's probably not as
bad as people. Think they're looking at the record more
than how he actually. PLAYED i don't think he's lost.
ANYTHING i just think that the team has gotten worse
and his performances and he's not capable of carrying him
(02:17:10):
over the. TOP i kind of think the way that
he was. Before but, yeah it's just simple, now simple.
Math they're just worse than other teams like The broncos
clearly have a better, roster and The chargers have a better.
TEAM i don't know if they'll still have a better
team if they don't fix their own offensive line. ISSUES i,
Mean i'd be more likely to pick him to finish
right where they were last, year third and possibly out
(02:17:31):
of the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (02:17:32):
Again.
Speaker 1 (02:17:32):
Yeah, WELL i, mean if THE afc is as crowded
as it was this, year.
Speaker 3 (02:17:36):
The math isn't gonna. Math that's what happened to.
Speaker 2 (02:17:38):
Him we'll take the seven teams that made it and
now Add Lamar Jackson's, Ravens, Ad Pat, Mahomes Chiefs, Ad
Joe Burrows, bengals and that's just of Course Aaron Rodgers
steelers just. Kidding, well they made. IT i know they're
already in the seven on the final night of the,
season final game of the, season final play of the
season they MADE i mean there will.
Speaker 3 (02:17:59):
Be some could be C.
Speaker 2 (02:18:01):
J stroud's turn to miss could Be Trevor lawrence's team
that misses somebody that's pretty. Good AND i Assume boenix
will be perfectly healthy next.
Speaker 3 (02:18:08):
Year the injury C.
Speaker 1 (02:18:09):
J stroud misses the playoffs this, year like C J
stroud does it like it's his.
Speaker 2 (02:18:14):
FAULT i don't know. That you you definitely don't pay.
Him you don't have to if you haven't done it
this offseason and then you miss the playoffs and he
does not have a good, season then you got a
career of four, years three not so good and one,
good and the one that was good was the furthest to.
Speaker 3 (02:18:30):
Go why would you extend him to that?
Speaker 2 (02:18:33):
Level you might figure out a better way to go
about year, five because he will have a contract for year.
Speaker 3 (02:18:38):
Five they will pick up the extension this.
Speaker 2 (02:18:40):
Offseason but there might be a better way to either
move forward with him or a better way to move
forward without.
Speaker 3 (02:18:46):
Him.
Speaker 2 (02:18:47):
MAN i, MEAN i know it's right into we're twelve
months away from, that but it feels like that's so
far away because we just got to the off seat
and then done anything from a personnel standpoint, yet AND
i still am leaning towards the. SCENARI i just laid
out that's not gonna. HAPPEN i really feel pretty strongly
that's not going to. Happen he's not going to lead
(02:19:08):
this team to missing the. Playoffs he's not gonna be
the driving force behind a spectacularly disappointing. SEASON i just
don't see that in his fourth. Season mah hop, not
because it's.
Speaker 3 (02:19:20):
Gonna be a, long, long whatever time period to get
back To.
Speaker 1 (02:19:28):
Just it kills me because the defense is not only
coming off the season they, did but they're they're not going.
Speaker 2 (02:19:34):
Anywhere, NO i don't think it's likely that you would
have a good. Fortune you would have good fortune after.
That but you do have to look At. Seattle seattle's
quarterback situation was, okay they won ten games With Gino,
smith and they, decided, well we think we can do,
better so we're not gonna pay, him and they guessed
on a little bit On Sam Darnold. Grant it's coming
(02:19:55):
off a fourteen win season the year before In, minnesota
SO i don't know how huge of a guess that.
Was but every once in a while there are, quarterbacks
and we've seen more of it because everyone's complaining, about,
well nobody's developing these quarterbacks and we're giving up on
them too. Early and we're talking about two guys from
the same draft who have played on an elite level
since their first team gave up on, them and their
(02:20:16):
second team and their third.
Speaker 3 (02:20:18):
Team In Baker mayfield And Sam.
Speaker 2 (02:20:20):
Darnold these guys are drafted at the top of the
draft same year and the team they're currently on is
probably where they're going to stay for many years to.
Come and they've both already had pretty good success there
but not. Previously forget what we think and forget what
you know. Publicly do you think The texans have called
About Joe burrow at? All, no think they. WILL i
(02:20:45):
think if there's a reason, too if you really believe
That cincinnati has a reason to entertain, it because you
still have to have a reason to entertain, it and
then you have to have a stupid team running the,
team a stupid personnel, guy and a stupid.
Speaker 1 (02:20:56):
Owner well they have, that they have, that maybe not.
Quite this is half the. Battle that's What Gi joe taught.
Me well we will.
Speaker 2 (02:21:03):
SEE i mean making a call on or making sure
they have a you don't need to make once you
know he's, available you go if you want to make him,
Available sure you call. First who, knows Maybe nick has
maybe somebody there used to work for The patriots and
he has an inside source. There in case you missed,
it we got a few items to get to we
haven't yet.
Speaker 3 (02:21:20):
Discussed we'll do that. Next it's time for.
Speaker 1 (02:21:26):
The final installment of the week for in case you missed,
it which means it's time For Josh.
Speaker 3 (02:21:31):
Jordan, hey what's going, on? Guys got some Interesting texans trade.
Speaker 6 (02:21:38):
News it's not really, news but it's an idea that's out.
Speaker 3 (02:21:41):
There it's From Daniel.
Speaker 6 (02:21:42):
Jeremiah he does the draft breakdown work FOR Nfl, network
and he made the point that this is not a
very strong quarterback, class especially after the first, pick and
The jets don't have the first, pick so he suggests
that they should try and go find a quarterback in trade.
In one of those quarterbacks he suggested Was Davis. Mills
(02:22:02):
he also talked about maybe if they only had to
give up a mid round, pick that might be a
better option than looking in the. Draft would you be
cool with Trading mills for just a mid round?
Speaker 2 (02:22:11):
Pick just a mid round pick is probably not HOW
i would say. It i'd say a mid round. Pick
are you kidding?
Speaker 7 (02:22:17):
Me?
Speaker 2 (02:22:17):
ABSOLUTELY i would do that For Davis mills a permanent backup,
quarterback you want to start, him go right, ahead, absolutely
POSITIVELY i would do. That, heck you Kept Graham mertz
for a, reason, Right i'm not trying to Disrespect Davis,
Mills but holy, cow how badly run does he think
The jets? Are really this is a sixth or seventh
(02:22:42):
round conditional. Pick maybe he's a backup, quarterback he's a
he's a quality of a backup.
Speaker 3 (02:22:49):
Quarterback, think why are you trading for? Him you're going
to lose no matter who you.
Speaker 2 (02:22:55):
Have why don't you just keep your mid round pick
and use it on a player that might play for
you for the next four.
Speaker 3 (02:23:01):
Years you might even find.
Speaker 2 (02:23:02):
Somebody or, again DO i go back, to, well they're
not going to draft anyone good? Anyway, well why are
The texans trading him because he's their?
Speaker 3 (02:23:10):
Backup?
Speaker 2 (02:23:11):
YEAH i, know but we just went on and on and.
On they're not trading. Him they're not throwing him away
for a six or seventh round. Pick that would be.
Stupid you want to give me the one hundred and
fifth pick in the, draft your fourth round, Er you
want to give me the one hundred and thirty seventh
pick in the, DRAFT i can find a player that
can probably help.
Speaker 1 (02:23:25):
Me if they got a fourth round pick For Davis,
mills that would be Like Nick cassario's.
Speaker 2 (02:23:28):
Coup and you know it was clearly this season is.
Lost they're probably not making the playoffs if the three
games THE. Cj stroud missed were started by an incapable backup,
quarterback which you might be left with If Davis mills
isn't here and you lose all three of those, games
all of a, sudden the twelve and four season or
twelve and five season is a nine and eight, Season
(02:23:49):
you're not going to the playoffs this year with that.
Speaker 3 (02:23:51):
Record you're not going to the playoffs with ten wins.
Speaker 2 (02:23:53):
Either so, yes it was extremely important and a good
team should never not have a backup? Quarterback is it
that hard to find? One Is Jacoby brissett not available
at a recent reasonable? Price is a player like that
not available at a reasonable comparable To Davis mills six million?
Speaker 3 (02:24:12):
Dollars would it cost you a couple more?
Speaker 2 (02:24:13):
Million would you pay an extra four million for a
Comparable Davis mills? Replacement if it also got you The
jets' fourth round. Pick, yeah you would WOULD i would
think you. Would, Yeah i'm not trying to send him,
away BUT i would think THAT'S.
Speaker 3 (02:24:28):
I know why.
Speaker 2 (02:24:29):
PEOPLE i, mean HE'S i Like Daniel, jeremiah AND i
think they were watching closely, enough but then they say
stuff like. This Davis mills wasn't. Good he was good
enough to win by not making mistakes because their defense
is great and they got to beat who they. Play
he was good for a. Quarter he was awesome for
one quarter Against. Jacksonville he wasn't very good Against denver
(02:24:51):
when he REPLACED. Cj AND i think we give most
backups a pass for they got no, reps and in this,
case he hadn't had reps in.
Speaker 3 (02:24:57):
Weeks because he's the backup.
Speaker 2 (02:24:58):
Quarterback you throw him in a game against the league's
best defense because he can't play The, texans so the
other best defense the conference is best. Defense it didn't go,
well even though the game was tied at zero zero
zero on the clock as the field goal was still
making its way into the. Net and then he played
three games at a reasonable, level a backup quarterback, level
and they won all three of those. Games come, on,
(02:25:21):
man MY nfl team is trading For Davis. MILLS i hate,
you MY nfl, team that's what you're. Saying if this
is what you're. Doing Daniel jeremiah is a draft, analyst,
awesome and we will have more from him over the
next couple of weeks as the combine rolls through and
the draft gets here in about two.
Speaker 3 (02:25:38):
Months what else do we?
Speaker 6 (02:25:40):
Have, YEAH i think part of that is it's just
showing you that he's not super confident in the guys
that you could. Draft the other thing to keep in,
mind how did The texans feel About Graham?
Speaker 3 (02:25:49):
Mertz that could weigh into.
Speaker 6 (02:25:50):
This And Davis mills is in the last year of his,
deal so he's gonna walk after this upcoming season unless you, extended.
Speaker 2 (02:25:56):
Which you've already done, twice AND i honestly THINK i
think the odds of them doing that again before next
season runs out are very. High he didn't mention he
mentioned another name Like tanner. McKee, right that's more like
it totally, unproven got a couple of games under his
belt because late in the season The eagles didn't need
to Play Jalen. Hurts go, ahead that's more like who
(02:26:20):
you don't know for a. FACT i think On tanner,
McKee he's young, enough in inexperienced. Enough you don't have
a definitive. Answer could he actually be? Okay could he
be better than what we could find? Elsewhere, sure that's
Not Davis. Mills Davis mills is not some twenty three
year old backup who just hadn't been given an. Opportunity
who was the first thing he was given for two,
seasons then he became a backup quarterback. Permanently good, guy good,
(02:26:43):
guy nice family, Man toyer doing nicely with the young.
Speaker 3 (02:26:47):
One all, right what else do we?
Speaker 6 (02:26:48):
Have, Okay Andy, reid there's been some rumors Because Tyreek,
hill we know he got. Released he put up some
footage of him working out In Kansas. City so of
Course Andy reid gets asked To he, says nothing happening.
Speaker 3 (02:27:01):
Here he, says they'll look at.
Speaker 6 (02:27:03):
Everybody but, Basically Tyreek hill's got to get healthy before
we even talk about this.
Speaker 2 (02:27:07):
Stuff if you told me to guess where he's, PLAYING
i wouldn't rule Out Kansas, City BUT i bet you
haven't done a whole lot to kind of go in
that direction.
Speaker 3 (02:27:16):
Either, well who else would take?
Speaker 2 (02:27:18):
Him in and why and who else would know him
better to do those two. THINGS i, MEAN i know
he's had a lot of issues and baggage and all.
THAT i bet you there aren't very many teams that
are really concerned about. It it's all about the gas
lets in the tank with. Him the only recovery from
health and, yes the gas left in the. Tank he'll
be a thirty two year old player when twenty twenty six.
(02:27:40):
Begins he's obviously very reliant on his speed and. Athleticism
BUT i don't think it looked like it was gone
for the brief part of the season he had before.
Speaker 3 (02:27:48):
Injury this.
Speaker 2 (02:27:48):
YEAR i think he'll be if he. Recovers he's got time.
Left by the, Way Brian wade in is something we.
Missed you'll talk About Ac.
Speaker 1 (02:27:57):
Green when we were talking about The yes the, Records
Ac green has another record that is way more. IMPRESSIVE
i don't know what he's talking about to.
Speaker 2 (02:28:04):
YOU i think it'd be pretty difficult to break that
record and have you know verification of said. Record, well
we believe first of, all we're Taking ac at his,
word and then the new record, holder we would be
taking his. WORD nba Player Ac green you can look
up any record book you, want you can look it
up online any statistical. Machine you're not going to Find
(02:28:28):
Ac green's record. Unlisted that's. True, Alright what?
Speaker 3 (02:28:32):
Else all?
Speaker 6 (02:28:33):
Right, quickly it's been a kind of a rumor that
THE Aj brown might be on the move from The.
Eagles now that would be a, huge dead money hit for.
Them it doesn't make a lot of sense to, me
but The patriots seemed to be a landing spot a
lot of people are talking about. NOW Aj brown was
on The dudes On dudes. Podcast not SURE i would
name my podcast.
Speaker 3 (02:28:51):
That, sam That's Julian roberts.
Speaker 6 (02:28:53):
Podcast IT'S goronk And Julian, edelman AND Aj brown told
them that he Hated Mike vrabel when he was a
rookie and it is his. Coach but now as he
looks back at, it he feels Like rabel was just
making the point that nobody's bigger than the. Program he
felt Like vrabel was pretty hard on him as a,
rookie and that he would even fake taking notes and
just WRITE i Hate Mike.
Speaker 3 (02:29:13):
Rabel in his.
Speaker 6 (02:29:13):
Notebook so but it sounds like he's kind of come
around as he's matured and maybe he'd be open to.
Speaker 2 (02:29:18):
It, well if you, please, Please, patriots you have to
sign him, now and he has to bring the notebook
to the press.
Speaker 3 (02:29:27):
Conference he has. To this is like the greatest Thing
i've ever, heard a burn. Book it's. Awesome.
Speaker 2 (02:29:32):
YEAH i Hate Mike. VRABEL i Hate Mike. RABEL i
Hate Mike rabel. INCURSIVE i hate Missus Mike. RABEL i
hate Missus Mike Rabel. BROWN i hate missus Aj Brank Rabel. Brown,
like is he getting married and trying out his?
Speaker 3 (02:29:46):
NAME i like. It it's.
Speaker 2 (02:29:47):
Awesome that is a great, story AND i Appreciate gronk
And edelman getting it out of.
Speaker 3 (02:29:53):
Him that's.
Speaker 2 (02:29:53):
AWESOME i do think we're going to have a new
address FOR Aj brown pretty clearly for next.
Speaker 3 (02:29:57):
SEASON i don't know where it'll, be but that makes some.
Sense feels like it didn't have to. Happen but He's they.
Speaker 2 (02:30:05):
Got a new offensive coordinator and they'll probably do things
a little bit. Differently he was not the, problem but
their offense clearly was a. Maw in, hindsight after what we've,
seen he feels like it feels like he is A
he is a, problem a personality. PROBLEM i mean he
did it publicly instead of on a burner and said
our offense isn't very, good and he was, Right, YEAH
(02:30:28):
i can't argue with. That we'll hit you with those.

Speaker 1 (02:32:04):
Today, well you had to be paying attention for this,
one but if you, were it should be pretty.
Speaker 3 (02:32:09):
Easy all.
Speaker 1 (02:32:10):
Right we were talking earlier about the possibility That Travis
kelcey would come back and play one more, year potentially
like a farewell tour type season for The Kansas City
chiefs this upcoming, year and we mentioned that he, actually
despite being older and not as productive as he used.
(02:32:32):
To led the team in several statistical categories last. Season
one of them was actually touchdown. Catches what was the
number that he caught last year for The Kansas City?
Chiefs how many touchdown catches led The chiefs from a
receiving standpoint in twenty twenty? Five need that number To
(02:32:54):
josh at seven one, three, two one, two, five seven.
Ninety give him the number of touchdown Catches Travis kelcey
had in twenty twenty, five.
Speaker 3 (02:33:02):
One of Three chiefs to leave the team in receptions.
Speaker 1 (02:33:06):
As number usual the, semantics it's a three way tie
for this.
Speaker 2 (02:33:11):
Number you're just asking how many receptions in the end
zone or running into the end zone with the football
after a reception did he have last?
Speaker 3 (02:33:19):
Year which the? Team the? Team, yes just a, number
that's all we're asking.
Speaker 2 (02:33:22):
For you could say, eight you could say, Four you
could say, three you could say, five you could pay.
Speaker 3 (02:33:26):
Seven you could say. Twelve you'd be. Wrong don't say.
Speaker 2 (02:33:29):
Twelve but any one of those NUMBERS i, suggested or another,
One feel free to hit us with that the NUMBER i,
wanted one of the NUMBERS i wanted to. Share here
we heard From Tim legler a little bit, earlier and
you'll hear from him Again saturday night over At Toyota
center or over At Madison Square garden with The rockets
And nick's getting Together NATIONAL tv tilt for. That he
(02:33:50):
mentioned something ABOUT kd doing this his whole, career and
he's still doing it at a very high. Level there's
a number of different ways you can categorize shooters or
catch and. Shoot there's you, know up, shooting there's mid range,
shooting and he's been at the top of those lists.
Forever let's look at this, year among the eighty three
players in THE nba who've been out there for most
(02:34:11):
of the season played at least thirty games that attempt
at least three shots that would be categorized as a.
Speaker 3 (02:34:18):
Pull up jumper pull up shooting.
Speaker 2 (02:34:20):
Numbers there's eighty three players in THE nba this year
that have played in at least thirty games that have
attempted at least three of those shots per. Game and
there are only three players among that eighty three who've
made half of their, shots half of their pull up
shots or, better and, he of course is one of those.
Three he's third in THE nba in pull up shooting
(02:34:43):
this year with how he's being defended on the, rockets
how things have changed with guys not being there and
guys being.
Speaker 3 (02:34:50):
There it just never.
Speaker 2 (02:34:51):
CHANGES, SGA tj, McConnell And Kevin durant are the only
three players in THE nba making half of their pull up,
shots and is a light user of the pull up.
Speaker 3 (02:35:03):
Shot he's less than five per.
Speaker 2 (02:35:04):
Game BOTH sga AND kd attempt more than nine such
shots per, game which is near the top of the.
League they're both in the top. Twelve and how often
it's categorized as a pull up jumper pull up. Shot
ONLY sga assaults you before he does. It he assaults
you less on, those but quite. OFTEN i, mean there
WAS i don't know if you guys on the radio
(02:35:24):
side saw it the same way last. Night one of
the four shots THAT kd hit at the end of
the game final three, minutes one of the right side baseline.
JUMPERS i think he actually hit two of, them the
one where he was laying on the ground afterwards looking
over At Scott foster, like, hey, Dude and it's a
play that happens a lot and never gets called a.
Speaker 3 (02:35:41):
Foul it's a ten foot jumper eight foot.
Speaker 2 (02:35:43):
Jumper it's basically when it's not a three point, shot
they don't enforce the same rules on these jump.
Speaker 3 (02:35:50):
Shots grant william slid right underneath.
Speaker 2 (02:35:52):
Him he just basically rolled off his body LIKE i
don't know that he infiltrated his foot, space but he
infiltrated his shooting. Space Kevin durant could not land because
too much of his body Hit Grant, williams who intentionally
got underneath. Him and you, know in the process of
either boxing him out or just simply not letting him,
(02:36:13):
land which defenders do all the time inside the three
point it's the same.
Speaker 3 (02:36:17):
Thing the rules don't.
Speaker 2 (02:36:18):
Change that is a jump shot that should have absolutely
been called a foul there because it's a dangerous. Play
you could have even looked at it for a, flagrant you, KNOW.
Kd i'll give him something else we probably haven't talked
about in all fifty one games he's. Played he knows
what fouls. Are he's getting mugs and he tells the refs,
yes but he doesn't adjure. Them he doesn't yell at,
(02:36:39):
them the anti lucas like he really he just moves,
