You guys are playing some of your best baseball right now.

so no, it's exciting times for sure. But yeah, you know,
my wife's back back at home in San Diego, so
I'm kind of solo right now. But it's, you know,
definitely exciting times in the Allen household.

Well, you were there in San Diego for high school
before you made it through your major league career through
a couple of different stops here to Houston. You definitely
have what would be categorized as a baseball family if
you could indulge our fans a little bit. As you noted,
your wife is soon to be giving birth to a
child and is from a ball family herself.

Just a little bit of background on that.

Yeah, I'm married in Uh, i'd say to the Boone family,
my wife's you know, original name Savannah Boone now San Allen,
but uh, the father is Brett Boone played for a
couple of teams Reds Mariners in his career, so uh yeah,
definitely I knew that my baseball pedigree can how would

I say, impress my now wife? So I definitely just
had a winner over.

With some charm.

I mean, you're kind of sounds like you're selling yourself
a little bit short here, Nick, I don't.

I mean they were essentially, I mean, Aaron's a middle enfielder,
Brett's a middle infielder. You're a middle infielder who plays
all the positions splendidly. That that seemed that sounds like
enough to me and probably to hurt.

Yes, it's pretty an interesting story for a lot of
your teammates here last year with Christian Walker, just as
the season began this year with a Spencer Raghetti and twins.
How have things been handled with we know how big
a part of making it all happen the wives are
in all these situations. I believe both Christian and Spencer

have called their wives rock stars through this process.

I imagine you would do the same.

Oh, one thousand percent.

No, Savannah has been just tremendous in this process. It's
definitely not been easy. So it's just like I'm just
trying to be there for her any time I can.

The with the the genes we're talking about here, the
cross pollination so to speak. You know, I have a
serious athlete on your hands.

obviously hoping for you know, a healthy.

But yeah, I mean, I guess you know, we have

and your teammates season so far four game winning streaks,

your five for eight over the last two games. I
would love to, but I'm I'm sorry, I'm gonna have
to start with the no hitter. Tell us about your
experience being a part of all that last night.

Oh it was amazing.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
I think I looked up around it's the fifth inning.
It could have been the fourth, but I was like, man,
you know, we're throwing a really good game here.
Speaker 5 (03:47):
See, oh, no hits. That's that's good.

Keep keep an eye on that one. And then ings
just kept kind of rolling on, and uh no, I
got fearous for sure. They were in the eighth inning.
And then the night thing. I was just wondering if
I've ever been a part of one, So now I
can say that I have. So that that was awesome.
Pictures have been just throwing the ball really really well lately,
So it's up to us on the offensive side just
to you know, take care of business and so we

can win some ball games there.

While you were in Chicago, did two of the three
pitchers that threw that no hitter last night get you coffee?

When they when they went down to Starbucks.

I'm not a big coffee guys, so I didn't make
an order, So no, no they didn't. But that's it's
such a great tradition there for that to happen. I'm glad.
You know, that's something that's just a known thing that
you know, rookies to do in Chicago. So let's just
we're just trying to keep that going.

Was it cool to celebrate with the rookie who finished
the game and the rookie who started the game?
Speaker 5 (04:48):
Yes, yes, they were pumped.

Just you know, I think for Santa for sure, like
just making his big league debut and doing that and
coming out and throwing two really really great and then
Freemi to to you know, do his thing and throw
really really well. It's it's fun to see.

I know you mentioned you know, you don't always it's
rare that some guys are even a part of these things.
But I'm sure you've been in games where at least
got close, it got into the later stages. When's the
latest you've ever realized like you were a part of
a potential no hitter, Like did you do you lose
track of that kind of thing on the on the
scoreboard in whatever stadium you happen to be in.

I think you can.
Speaker 5 (05:28):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
I can't tell you when's maybe the latest I recognize that,
Oh wow, throwing no hitter. Maybe it had to been
maybe a seventh inning, that's probably the latest, because then
around that time, you're just wondering like, oh wait, you know,
we're throwing a really good game, we're putting up zero,
so let's you kind of check the scoreboard and at
that time you'll probably see, you know, no hits on
board or something like that.

Well, yeah, and for a guy like you, especially the
position you play at any given moment, when when you're
on the infield, you know, pitchers have nerves and all
that kind of thing. But I got to think that,
especially the guys immediately behind them defensively, are always kind
of very on edge, if you will, when you don't
want to be the guy that messes it up.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
No, no, yeah, you're you're you're on edge, and you're
trying to make every single play possible out there for
the picture. So the juices are flowing, you know, you
kind of feel like you can run ten times faster,
which is kind of cool.

on Sports Talk seven ninety. I've been in the lineup
the last couple of days, and as I mentioned earlier,
five hits, three runs for RBI is some very key
at bats, and as everybody who's listening to the game
or watching the game knows, I'm curious if you knew
how long it had been since you pop one over
the fence like you did over those last couple of games.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
I've known, you know, sometimes they're just sneaking out of
there and you know it'll I'll hit a couple or whatnot,
you know, in a season. But for it hasn't been
since to say, last spring training for me to for
me to do that, so it's definitely been a while.
So it was nice to kind of get that monkey
off the back a little bit and now just trying
to put up get up bats and do what I can.

To help the team win.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
The team, unfortunately, has had all sorts of issues that well,
injuries at both all three third base, shortstop, and second base,
all positions that you can play and have played. You're
out there regularly now with Jeremy Payna. Defense is part
of a no hitter defense is a part of a
lot of what Joe Spotta likes to do when he
has players that can assist laden games.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
There are a lot of defensive switches.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
As the role that you've taken on here this year,
the one that you thought you would have when you
were acquired by the Astros in the offseason.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Yeah, I mean if you look around infield, just you know,
especially when we when we first got here, it's just
guys that.
Speaker 5 (07:45):
Have done a lot in this game and have.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
Had a lot of success. So you're just coming in
like a work Can I help work? Can I fit in?
And I definitely try to make that. I'd say, you know,
Ben troll Is, you know, do the best I can
in that position. You know. Unfortunately some of these injuries
now it's like, you know, step into the role you're
going to be playing a little bit more so now
it's not something that I'm not used to, you know,

coming up and.

Play every day.

You know, in my time with Oakland and Atlanta, you know,
playing a lot, and so I'm used to it. I'm
ready for it. But yeah, I think with how many
talented guys we have here, it's like just be prepared
with whatever role you got and try to do the
most with it.

As we've heard from guys all throughout the season, whether
the team was in a stretch of poor baseball with
losses or differently as they are now, the same response
is what we get from everybody about how the vibe
inside the clubhouse has remained very constant and rather upbeat
despite being a team well under five hundred.

Is that still out? Is it how it's been?
Speaker 3 (08:44):
And has it stayed that way over a sweep of
the Cubs, And as you get to the ballpark there
in Arlington.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
Today, you know it's been. It's been amazing. The guys
in the clubhouse are awesome. We all like each other
a lot, so it's no problems there, you know, and
there's you know, now we're playing really good baseball right now,
in which you know, we weren't stretching because we know
we can do this. So now let's just keep stretching,

keep going, keep keep putting good baseball out on the field,
and you know, let the chips fallower than they I.

Know, it might be a little bit different because of
where team where both of these teams are right now
and the standings and whatnot, But did anybody ever take
you aside and tell you how much we hate the
Rangers here in Houston as you became part of things.

I haven't heard that at all, but you can tell.
I think with coming here and seeing how many fans
are in attendance that you know, there's just a little

How was that as we let you go here?

How was the feeling from inside the stadium by the
time it was you know, it gotten a nine to
nothing midway through the game, the no hitter was still alive.
There's been a lot of road or no hitters thrown
on the road, but in this case, this was an
no hitter thrown on the road in front of a
lot of Astros fans.

Yeah, No, it was amazing.

So it was really cool getting to see all the
fans getting to celebrate with us too, because I know,
you know, the big stay of Texas and there's a
lot of you know, Ash fans out there, so you know,
it's cool to see them come in and support us
and hopefully can get some more out for the next
couple of games here.
