Speaker 1 (00:04):
The Shane.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
It keeps reminding me, and I've forgotten three segments or
two segments in a row, but I won't forget a
third time. We actually have not only guests today, but
we have tickets to give away as well. Of course,
Saturday two thirty kickoff in the Alamo Dome, the Alamo
Dome that Coach Trayler once referred to as a place
(00:28):
with a super spiritual power, similar to the Novvey in
their home tree. I'm hoping he calls in so I
can ask him if he's excited about the new Avatar movie.
But Senior Day at the Dome, Salute to Armed Forces
Day at the Dome, and we have tickets to give away, Shane,
tell the good people when we're gonna do that.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
We're gonna give away two four packs a day. One
at five point thirty after we talked to Mark vandermir
One more after at around six fifteen, after we talked
to Coach Traylor. Remember two to one oh six nine
seven sixty. We will remind you when we get closer
to that. Two four packs today again two one oh
seven three six nine seven sixty for this weekend's finale
(01:10):
in the Dome. I guess army. Okay, so remember that number.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
We'll remind you again as we get closer to the
giveaway times, so five thirty and six point fifteen we
will be giving those away today. I mentioned obviously yesterday
on a.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Cowboys victory Monday.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
We had a lot to recap from the actual game
action from Sunday, but we didn't get into I had
a segment written on my run sheet, but like most
things there, something usually gets cut to the gets dropped
to the cutting room floor, and yesterday I got you. Yeah,
it was we just had too much to talk about
(01:48):
from the game that didn't get a chance to jump
into some of the lingering off season questions that you
know are going to This is the thing about being
a Cowboys fan. You can already kind of see how
Jerry is going to manipulate the situation to keep the
Cowboys in the headlines all off season. He wants he
(02:11):
wants people at the draft in April to be talking Cowboys.
He wants people at OTA's in June, in July to
be talking Cowboys. He wants every national media show, every
talking head show, to be leading with the Cowboys all
through training camp. Again, what he wants, and well, how
can he accomplish that by dragging out George Pickens' contract
(02:33):
situation and making it a national story year round until
we get to the regular season kicking off next year,
and so we can you know, talking about George Pickens's
value and as it compares to the rest of the
highest paid receivers in the league, even comparing him to
(02:54):
the current number wide receiver number one, if you still
think he's wide receiver number one on CD Lamb on
the roster.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
Pickens is two years younger than CD.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
He's having the biggest, biggest season, biggest numbers of his
entire career. Obviously this year right now, George Pickens has
more receiving yards than every Pittsburgh Steeler wide receiver combined.
It's an insane year so far for George Pickens. And
(03:25):
I kind of think watching Pickens, you know, ball out
every Sunday, every Monday, every Thursday, that he kind of
knows his money is coming, whether it's Dallas, whether it's Tennessee, Buffalo,
whoever is going to throw money his way. And that's
where I would hope that the Cowboys don't just have
(03:48):
it in their back pocket that they know we're going
to franchise tagg him. We're going to drag out the
contract negotiations.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
This is a.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
Deal that should have been done when you made the trade,
which also might go down as one of Jerry Jones'
best trades ever, giving up a third round pick for
a potential top five wide receiver. Compare that to he
gave up a fourth round pick for John Fermingo.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
I think Trey Lance was the worst. Was a worst trade,
to be honest?
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Oh yeah, Lance was probably, I mean it's probably not
the worst. This is also a man who gave up
two first round picks for Joey Galloway.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
I think, I say Roy Williams, well.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
That one too. They all there's a lot of them
to refer back to.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
But he's made a lot of trades this year. I personally,
a lot of people were like sour on the Quinn
Williams trade.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
I actually liked that trade.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
Oh no, I don't see how I don't see Mazie
in that as well. Anyone could be sour on that
trade now after what we've seen for two games. But
the Pickens question aside, because assuming that they do their
business correctly and they get a deal, a long term
deal with Pickens done sometime around the draft, sometime around
(04:54):
April when the new league office or the new league
season starts before free agencies, so you know what you
have going into that. The name that comes up doesn't
come up enough. Is Javonte Williams, who we've seen all
season have his own career revival with Dallas after having
the injury plugged years in Denver.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
To start his career.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
You know, when they signed him to what one year,
three three and a half million, something like.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
That, exactly, it's an incentive contract essentially, exactly.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
And when they did that deal, I don't think anyone
thought they would get the level of performance from Javonte
Williams that they've gotten this season. This is well beyond
the expectations, which is where now the question becomes.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
I teased it earlier.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
You know, how much money is it going to cost
to keeping How important is he specifically to winning games
over the next two to three years as Dax's window
is still obviously as wide open as it's ever been
skill wise, and how serious is Jerry about keeping him?
Because what we've seen from the when it comes to
(06:01):
the running back position is exactly what we exactly what
they did with Javonte Williams.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
The scrap heap.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
You know, ever since letting Tony Pollard walk, it's been
nothing but one year guys trying to get something. It
was like Ronald Jones last year, who they end up
cutting in preseason. They let Rico walk for less money
than they paid Javonte Williams. Clearly they have devalued the
position when it comes to their financial standing. And I
(06:31):
ask you if you don't use the franchise tag on Pickens,
is Williams worth a franchise tag if that's what it
takes to keep him in Dallas?
Speaker 1 (06:40):
Yes, that was quick.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
It's yes, because I feel like I've told you this before.
The new way to pay running backs but still give
them appropriate money is if you're going to draft them earlier.
Let's say a first round pick on a running back.
You have four years rookie contract, you have your fifth
year option, franchise tag year six, maybe franchise tag year seven.
At that point your running back is twenty eight twenty nine.
(07:03):
That's when the decline really starts to take over. With
this case, Javon Toe Williams. Yes, it's having a career year,
but We've also seen before running backs perform well in
contract years, so I'm very hesitant to give him a
massive extension because again, I don't think he's gonna command
Saquon Barkley, Christian McCaffery, Derek Henry top money. I think
right now, his realistic market is somewhere between Kyen Williams
(07:24):
at eleven million dollar year and Josh Jacobs, which is
about twelve five.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
Yeah, and see when I think of Josh Jacobs and
Javonte Williams, I don't think of them in the same.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
Class exactly because they've done it more than once.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
Right, And if we're thinking about it in terms of
mileage on Javonte Williams, this technically would be his fifth
year option right year, and then if you franchise him,
you're getting his sixth year next year.
Speaker 3 (07:48):
Which would be about ten maybe eleven million dollars fully guarantee.
But it's still a light contract. If you're going to
franchise tag a player, you would prefer to do it
for a cheap contract, and the running backs are.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
One of the cheaper ones you can get.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
Yeah, that's where I hope they don't play the franchise
tag game with Pickens because I don't know. First of all,
I don't know how he's going to react to that.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
It's gonna be about twenty eight million dollars this year.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
See, and I think he's going to get more than that.
There's no question it can maneuvers well if Pickens. If
Pickens were on the open market, he's a thirty million
plus receiver.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
I agree.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
If the Cowboys can get him anywhere close to thirty
million locked in for four years, you know what's CD
on thirty four million early average?
Speaker 3 (08:31):
Yes he has, let's see ceedee lamb has.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
And I don't think there's any hostility.
Speaker 3 (08:36):
Six million dollars guaranteed this.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
Year, Okay, So I don't think there's any hostility between
those two guys. Where if all of a sudden, George
Pickens was making more than CD, it's going to ruffle
feathers in that locker room. I just I would think
looking at the best way to navigate this roster financially,
Pickens needs a long term deal and it should have
been done yesterday, and that allows you to have a
(09:00):
pathway of retaining Javante on a franchise tag. You could
talk me into a short a two year deal, so
then you're just basically getting both the franchise tag years
to keep him in Dallas.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
But that is that is the name.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
I think more people need to be thinking about, talking about,
and trying to figure out how to keep in Dallas.
Pickens is a no brainer. I think we've seen enough
from Javante now to say he's a big part of this,
at least for the next two years. Going forward, Football
Happy Hour with a little Week twelve Looxie coming up
here next on The Andy Everett Show.
