Speaker 1 (00:03):
I did look at the stats.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Oklahoma City made twelve threes a game during the playoffs.
Sure fire them all radio, but there's no Shay Gildas
Alexander on the Spurs roster either.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
Well, but Shay Gildas Alexander knows his role, he knows
what is.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
His role is dribble until the shot clock gets to six,
to take two steps inside the lane, draw a foul,
and fade away and go to the line the foul merchant.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
Just because you have the capability and availability to shoot three,
you know your limits, you know what you're going.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
They have one of the best mid range game players
that's ever played the game in an era that is
not conducive to the mid range.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
He's bringing it back. But I don't think that this.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
I think the Spurs have a lot of really good
players that are now on this roster, but I don't
think they have the dynamic score in Shae. I don't
think anybody on this roster is going to leave the
league in scoring, and so I just don't think the offense.
I think you'll still see the committee. I mean, I
think there's a player, there's several players on this team
(01:03):
that could lead the league in scoring. I don't think.
I just don't think they will. They'll be sharing the basketball,
and they'll all be in the seventeen to twenty four
points a game number. And but I don't see unless
it's Wimby, you can give him and he could score
thirty four. But I don't see a player like I
don't see a ball centric offense like this thunder duo
a round shay and and he is going to have
(01:24):
the ball in his hands almost every play.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
I can see Victor at one point getting close at
least maybe like top five. Yeah, that means you're Series five.
In only forty six games this year, he was at
twenty four point three percent or twenty four point three
points a game. You get dearon Fox, Now, maybe that
means somebody else's numbers. Devin Vassell to Keldon Johnson, dearon
(01:48):
Fox's numbers, maybe drop up two or three points. But
you can't tell me that we don't have a maybe
a better version and a two point zero version of
Stockton in Malone with picking, I mean the pick and
roll situation with Deer and Fox and Victor women Yama.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
It SHOT's what it was with Christmas baul So they're
gonna get to play it again.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
It's lob City three point zero now.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
Yeah, But I also think that when I look at
what the Oklahoma City doesn't have to shoot a lot
of threes because Shay's going to have the ball in
his hand so long, Whereas I don't think unless the
Spurs are going to change the way they play offense,
there's still going to be a lot of motion. There's
still gonna be a lot of ball movement, and there's
going to be backscreens and easy looks at baskets and yeah,
at some point though, the teams that usually get there
(02:35):
are making fifteen to seventeen eighteen threes a game.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
I think it's also the reason that they didn't have
to rely on that or force that was because the
other positive or the other thing about the Oklahoma City
Thunder is they played damn good defense. So there wasn't
I mean, we saw this past year there wasn't a
lot of games where they were getting blown out.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Well, they led the league by end blowouts. They had
more double digit wins than anybody.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
Yeah, so it's not as if they were down fifteen
or twenty points with three or four minutes. Hey, guys,
we got to go on a three point barage and
score ten minutes and thirty seconds. We got to pull
of Frank Harris here. They didn't have to worry about
doing that, all right.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
The New York Knicks may hire a former Spurs assistant
coach and NBA coach and James Birego or another coach
that used to coach for the Spurs, and that would
be Mike Brown. They also have Norri as their other
coach that are amongst their finalists. Yeah, I was. I
had to look him up and I've already forgotten his
(03:34):
first name, but his last name is Norri. You talk
about a franchise that has so much opportunity and it's
completely screwing it up. We kid and joke. Sometimes when
people have the ready fireing method, they don't plan out
what they're doing and they just kind of go in
a oh, I don't like what's happening, so let's get
rid of what we got and we'll figure out later
(03:54):
what we're gonna do. That never works, And now look
at what's happened in the East. Halliburton's hurt, so Indiana's down,
Boston's got Tatum out, Milwaukee's in disarray with their roster,
Cleveland will probably be decent again next year. Kenny Atkinson's
a really good coach. But there's no reason why a
Tom Thibodau led Knicks team couldn't be the best team
in the East next year. And now they may not be.
(04:17):
Not that these three guys can't coach, but now they've
got to come up with a completely different philosophy as
they go forward, and you know, they're not going to
play seven guys like Tibbs did. They'll try to play
a little bit deeper situation. But I was thinking about
this the other day. In two years, three years from now,
we're probably going to have NBA expansion, and typically what
(04:40):
has been discussed is that Las Vegas and Seattle will
be the two cities that get NBA expansion, which would
basically for the time being, mean that you would have
two teams entering the league from the West and somebody
would have to go east. And it's it's going to
(05:01):
be interesting because Minnesota, Memphis, and New Orleans are the
three teams in the Western Conference that geographically are the
furthest East. All three to some extent or basically you know,
on the Mississippi River one side of it or another.
So which one of those three gets to go to
the East, because I think that's a ticket to go
(05:24):
from trying your tail off to be a playing team
or to be a top four team. And not that
this is ever going to happen, but you can dream
a little bit. When the Spurs were first in the
NBA in the first three or four years that they
were in the league, I think it was seventy six, seven,
seventy seven, seventy eight, and seventy eight, seventy nine, maybe
(05:44):
seventy nine, eighty. I have to go back and see
the historians around here would know. But for the least
the first three years, the Spurs were an Eastern Conference team.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
Still weird when you say that, Still weirdy, But how.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
Much fun would it be to have to to get
to beat up on the East and not have to
go through the West all the time?
Speaker 1 (06:00):
Yeah? I mean we'd basically be Lebron James during his
teamer there in the East, where.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
You you may get to the championship ten times and
only win three or four, but at least you get
in there.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
But I think there's gonna be a fight between New Orleans,
Memphis and Minnesota to determine which of those teams ends
up in the East, because everybody is gonna want to
be in the East.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
Well, and you know with some of the moves that
the Knicks made as well, uh signing uh San Antonio's
own Jordan Clarkson intends to sign. I was a little
surprised by that one. I didn't realize he was actually
going to be a free agent. Uh. The other French guy,
Yabaselling signed over there as well, So.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
They got depth.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
Now they got depth. But are are they in a
situation to where now they have maybe too many guards?
Speaker 2 (06:50):
Well, they're just gonna play guards. I mean in the East,
it doesn't matter. You can play a little bit, you know,
the way that everybody else does. You can play a
little unorthodox.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
If you're Brian Wright, do you give the Knicks a
call and say what would it take for McHale bridges.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Well, what does mcale bridges do that the wing players
that the Spurs have don't do.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
Shoots threes and makes threes and can lead to what's
his salary? I think it's twenty eight this year. He's
on the last year of his content.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
You have only one player that you could trade for.
You want to go Viseel for McHale Bridges straight.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
Four sorry, twenty four point nine twenty four point nine
million dollars, twenty eight years old. Man, it's tempting. It
is tempting. By the way, I didn't get to finish.
So sandro is uh is going to sign or intend
to sign with the Toronto Raptors two years. I think
it's about five and a half million dollars. So, and
(07:50):
I just don't think there's this.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
I don't think there's a rotational spot for him here anymore.
With the way that this roster shapes out, You're going
to see a lot of guards. You're going to see
a lot of mismatches. I think from a you can
play as much small ball as you want, even though
you have a big guy in Wimby.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
You do make a good point that the Spurs still
probably need one more big, yes, that you will only
have Wimby. And I don't know that you can classify
Wimby as a center type player. He's gonna face a bit. Really,
the only big on the team right now is Cornette.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
Now I'm not I'm just talking. Maybe I'm talking Wise
is your only quote unquote bigs height Wise is and
Charles is not guaranteed to be on this roster because
it's a non guaranteed contract. He's the he's the he's
the last on the totem pole. Wimby undervalued it at
seven three. He's probably like seven to five. Luke Cornett
is seven to one and Charles Bassie is six'. Ten
(08:43):
after that drops.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
To your wing players And GUSS i can't HAVE i
can't Have Jeremy sohan And Carter, bryant and you know
if they decide to Bring BISMACK beyonmbo being my starting
four or five at six.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
Eight All, Right yesterday.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
We talked a little bit about the future of conference
realignment and the fact That Texas state has accepted the invitation.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
To go to THE pac.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
