B ninety three Morning Show. Today's Awesome Sauce is right
out of Three Rivers, where a restaurant manager faced one
of her biggest fears and became the calm that everyone
else needed in that moment. Aubrey mackenzie was working a

normal Friday at an Applebee's when that tornado back in
March came through. And at first it didn't seem real
Blue Sky's normal day. And then everyone and every phone
in the building started panicking and going off at one time,
and within minutes she could actually see the funnel cloud.
That's like my worst nightmare. Yeah, here's the thing. Aubrey

(00:48):
has been afraid of storms since she was a kid,
but in that moment, she didn't freeze. She flipped into action.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
I knew that what my position was in this building
and what I needed to do, so I tried to
remain calm and get everybody to where they needed to be.
That's it was fast moving.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Isn't her voice just like authoritate? Like that's who you
want in charge when an emergency comes up. Oh absolutely,
I feel so calm, just like even listening to her
describe the situation. She gathered all of the staff and
the guests and moved them into the prep kitchen, which
was the safest place in the building with no windows.
She packed everybody in there, and then she did one
more check outside. She saw a man sitting in a

truck with his dog and a young boy waiting alone,
and she didn't hesitate. She told them get inside and
literally grabbed the boy and brought him to safety. And
seconds later that tornado hit last shattered debris flew, It
sounded like a freight train ripping through the building. But
inside that kitchen, everybody was safe thanks to Aubrey, not

a single injury. Aubrey says people have been calling her
a hero, but she says just what needed to be done.
Courage sometimes does not mean that you are not afraid.
Sometimes it means you're terrified and you lead anyway. So
you know, here's to hope an Aubrey gets a little raise.
