Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hot in here? Do you need to cool down?

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Yeah, I can go get a bucket of ice water
and we can knock this out and just get it done.
I see what you might stand on the fire escape
so it doesn't get.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
All wet in here.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
What you did there?

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Okay? So tell us what happened.

Speaker 3 (00:17):
Uh? Okay. So I was on vacation last week and
I get a notification from Advanced Oral Surgery of Michigan
and doctor Jesson, who is the guy I've went there before.
It's like a company that works with my my wife's
dental office in Jennison, and it is so I knew
what it was because I just got some work done there.
In fact, I think about it, I just gave them

(00:40):
thousands of dollars. So we'll go back. We'll go back
to that though. But here's I mean, I mean, I
don't know you're hearing it through a fuck dominating.

Speaker 4 (00:47):
I may have Advanced doorl for a trade for do
you have to keep your mind to mental health awareness
ice bucket challenge, And today I'm going to dominate doctor
McMann e mcfans Family Dental on air mic.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
Oh okay, all right, So anyways, you know those ice
bucket challenge videos or whatever that were popular for it
was for something else, So wasn't it wasn't it like
a als als Yes?

Speaker 1 (01:11):
Yes, this was back in like twenty twenty fourteen. I
want to.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
Say, I think you're right.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
I think you're right, so more than a decade ago.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
Yeah, so they are back. But it looks like it's
for mental health awareness.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
I love that cause.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
Yes, But here's the thing do I have? Like? Like
I see kids in stuff doing it and then their
parents do it. I get that, right, I get that.
It's very cool. It's a conversation you can have with
your kids. Right, do I have to do this? Do
I have like once you're tagged in it?

Speaker 1 (01:42):
It was kind of a brilliant challenge for that very reason,
because nobody wants to just like pour a bucket of
freezing cold ice water over their head.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
Well, I there are a lot of questions I have
here outside of yes that, why didn't you aren't you
supposed to ask somebody before you tag them in a
video like that? Like isn't that? Uh? Second question is
what does this do? What are we what if I
don't do this? Am I donating money somewhere? Or will
they get money. Still if I bore the water on
my head, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
I don't know. We're gonna have to do a little
bit of research because.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
I mean, I'm not really super excited to do and
I wasn't nominated for this, but when Mike told me
about this, he was like, if I have to do it,
I'm going to nominate you.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
So then all of a sudden I was invested.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
Yeah, because I was like, do I have I don't.
Is this something you have to do?

Speaker 5 (02:33):
Like?

Speaker 3 (02:34):
Is it breaking a chain like when somebody pays it
forward in a in a coffee line six.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
One six two four two ninety three ninety three? Are
we terrible people?

Speaker 3 (02:42):
I don't think so, because I don't know what this does.
If somebody explains the benefits of doing this, you know what.
Ally Mack was definitely gonna do it.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
I I am an advocate for mental.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
Health, I am too. But what does this do? What
does this do?

Speaker 1 (02:58):
That's a good question.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
This was more than a decade ago that this first
made its debut online. Remember the ice bucket challenge for als?

Speaker 3 (03:06):
Yeah, I just googled it twenty fourteen. Okay, yeah, yeah,
so you're right.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
Just over ten years and it's back now and people
are trying to raise money for mental health this time around.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
But how how does this what does this do?

Speaker 2 (03:20):
Mike got nominated from an oral surgeon in the area
because your your wife works at a dentist office and
they do work together. So all of a sudden, you're
on vacation you get this, like, oh my gosh, someone
nominated me for this ice bucket challenge.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
I didn't know. I thought it was a bill he
tagged me. I'm like, oh, did I not pay my bill? Yeah,
it was the ice bucket.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
Challenge And the first time around.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
I did this the first time around, so cause I
thought that, like, that's just what you had to do,
Like you, you just somebody dumped a bucket of ice
water on you, and you called it a day, and
you nominated someone else and you moved on. I guess
I never really understood and I still don't how this
makes money for the chair that these are connected to
these challenges if everybody is just dumping a bucket of

(04:06):
ice water on themselves and nominating someone else aside from
just like general awareness, like now people know these exist
and maybe donate from the goodness of their heart.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
Yeah, but then I have to go and then there's
a on top of that. The next step too is
I have to tag somebody else in these and I
don't like doing that. So I'm like, maybe I just
maybe I just break the chain here, right, six.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
One six two four two ninety three ninety three? How
does all of this work?

Speaker 3 (04:32):
Good morning, Welcome to the B ninety three Morning Show.
What's your name? Away from from Calamazoo? All right, Jessica,
explain to me, like I'm a five year old, what
this ice bucket challenge is going to do.

Speaker 6 (04:44):
So I'm not sure about this new one, but I
know what the ALS. If you didn't do it, you
had to donate like fifty dollars to the ALS Foundation.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
Okay, I like that. I do like that then, so
I think.

Speaker 6 (04:56):
That was the purpose, like to raise money and awareness both.
So most people are not going to back down from
a challenge, which does us awareness spread, you know, further.
But then if you have, you have people that'll still
donate as well.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
Okay, this one doesn't seem to have any sort of
donat I'm not saying it doesn't. I just didn't see
it in the video. Any place to donate but it
just seems to be almost raising awareness for mental health
awareness maybe right? Okay, all right, so I guess.

Speaker 6 (05:28):
You like if you if you challenge someone else, you
can add like any kind of tag you want for
mental health, mental health awareness, or you know, things like
that as well.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
All right, Jessica, appreciate the info. Have a great day. Bye.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
Michigan's number one for New Country B Natty three commercial
free for your drive into work and school with the
b Natty three Morning Show.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
I'm Ali, Max and Mike. Are we bad people?

Speaker 3 (05:57):
Well? I don't know that this will decide not decided,
but it is probably a probably a good question.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
I don't know if you guys have seen this, but
the ice bucket challenge has returned to social media.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
Yeah. And I thought it was memories popping up when
I kept seeing like friends doing it for their kids
and their kids doing it. But it's a whole new
it's for a whole new cause.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
Yes, this was first made popular in twenty fourteen. This
was the ALS ice bucket Challenge. Now it has returned
not to raise money for ALS, but to raise money
for mental health.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
I love that.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
Yeah, I was tagged by my my dentist. My wife
works at a dentist office in Jennison. It was the
oral surgeon that works with them. I had actually gone
to him recently and he tagged me in this challenge,
which I feel like you're supposed to give somebody your
heads up a whole nother conversation. But I don't know
what to do here because I don't know what, like

(06:49):
does the money go somewhere? Do I have to do it?
If I don't do it? Because I wasn't informed that
I was going to be doing this. Am I a
bad person?

Speaker 2 (06:58):
Mike brought this to me a couple days ago and
he was like, do I have to do it? And
I was like, yeah, I feel like you have.

Speaker 3 (07:06):
To do it. Okay, then I'm tagging you.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
I know, And that's when I was like, hold on,
hold on, hold on, You're to do.

Speaker 5 (07:13):
Some more research in your next That said, the other
part of the of this all is not that I
don't want to do it and I don't believe in
the cause, because once you explain to me what it's
for and why we're doing this, if it actually is
doing something, then I'm.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
Down beautiful cause love it.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
Yeah, But if it's not, and I'm we're just we're
just having fun on social media to pour ice on
somebody's head. I don't want to pass this along to
somebody else. That feels like a burden.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
And I couldn't remember how this worked the first time around.
I did this the first time around, but I couldn't
remember exactly how it worked. So Eva reached out to
me on Facebook and it says participants, Now, this was
for the ALS Challenge back in twenty fourteen. Okay, So
I don't know if this one is kind of the
same deal or if there are different rules for this one,

(07:57):
but here's how the ALS challenge worked. Participants who were
tagged on social media can either dump a bucket of
ice water over their head and donate ten dollars, or
skip the ice cold water and donate one hundred. Okay,
so either way you're donating at least ten dollars. You're

(08:19):
doing ten dollars with the ice water, or one hundred
dollars skipping that.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
See, and that's another thing I don't want. I don't mind.
I don't mind doing it. I'll I'm okay with doing
it if there is a place to donate. I didn't
see a place to donate, but I don't want to
pass that on to somebody else and force them to
have to donate.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
Do you feel like.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
If you're going to tag someone in this, you should
give them a heads up that this is coming.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
Yeah, good morning, welcome to the B ninety three Morning Show.
What's your name? A Where you're from?

Speaker 2 (08:49):
Jeff from Grand Rapids?

Speaker 3 (08:50):
All right, Jeff, what do you think about? Explain to me,
like I'm a five year old the ice bucket challenge
the newer one. Well, so I always thought it was, hey,
jump the water on your head so.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
You don't have to pay the money, Like it.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
Was either pay the money or do the water. And
then everyone was doing the water and like you guys said,
there's no link. Where do you even.

Speaker 6 (09:12):
Send the money? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (09:13):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
I agree, like we should raise awareness for it.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
Absolutely, it seems like it's just a play.

Speaker 4 (09:19):
It's just all for fun, like social media. Yeah, yeah, yay,
look at me.

Speaker 3 (09:23):
But then but then also, if we're if it is
just that, does it help the the spreading awareness of it,
if we're all just because the more people that do it,
the more awareness that has brought. Right, Yes, I think.

Speaker 5 (09:35):
So it's to me.

Speaker 4 (09:37):
It's just like I said, look at me, look at me.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
It's a way that people can get.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
Their lights up and get their views up and a
new thing, because why how can we haven't heard about
it since twenty fourteen when the challenge that's a good point,
that is it is a good point.

Speaker 1 (09:57):
That's a good point, but it had.

Speaker 3 (09:58):
Something has to start somewhere, right, And I'm all about
the bringing awareness if it's really what we're doing here. Yeah,
I also don't like the idea of being the one
to have to pass it on to somebody else, but
I know.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
I yeah, see that's the part that I hesitate.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
About it because I don't mind doing it. Doctor Justin
you know, tagged me. It was my dentist, he tagged me.
I don't know why. I wish you would have, like
maybe messaged me about it first. But it's not a
big deal. But now I have to figure out who
I'm going to tag next. So I went around the
building here and said ask coworkers, hey, do you think
this is Do you think I could not do this?

(10:38):
Do you think I could get out of this? It
would it would? Does it make me rude if I
stop this? Chain and Alie mackew with the first one,
and you said, oh, I think you have to do it.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
I did hesitate.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
I do want credit for that because I understand like
your mindset with this, which is like okay, like it
like looks bad if you don't do it.

Speaker 3 (11:01):
Yes, I believe obviously we all believe in the cause
right right, because.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
It is good.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
But the thing that gives me the most hesitation is
that I'm gonna have to pass this on you sure
are to somebody else, Yes, you are? And like do
I reach out to them and let them know, like, hey,
I gotta nominate somebody.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
You're gonna be it. So just get ready for this.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
Imagine if you just told me no, I don't think
you have to do it, we would we would have never,
we would have. But you're such a good person that
you're like, no, you gotta.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
I think, Yeah, I think, but you know what, you
know what I'm gonna do.

Speaker 3 (11:33):
Huh.

Speaker 1 (11:34):
I'm gonna ask chat GPT.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
Michigan's number one for New Country be Natty three. We've
got more Cane Brown tickets coming up in just about
ten minutes. Okay, I've asked CHATCHPT like I would normally do.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
Which feels like our voice of reason. Starting on this show.

Speaker 2 (11:50):
About this this new ice bucket challenge, I said, the
ice bucket challenge is back for mental health awareness.

Speaker 1 (11:57):
We've been tagged should we do this?

Speaker 2 (12:00):
Jat GPT said yes, if it aligns with your values
and your brand. It's a smart move. It's timely and
relevant because May is mental health Awareness month. Right, Timing
sure positive optics shows your supportive of important causes beyond entertainment.
That's true for us. Engaging content encourages conversations. But here's

(12:24):
what you should keep in mind. Be mindful of your tone.
This is not just a gimmick. Do a quick mention
of why you're doing this to help end the stigma
around mental health because you have a story, it says,
add some heart to this and fun challenges are on brand,
but make sure the mental health message doesn't get lost

(12:45):
in the splash.

Speaker 3 (12:46):
See that. That's it. That's what the uncomfortable feeling is.
Is it becoming gimmicky? I think we all have a
mental health story, right.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
It says, if.

Speaker 2 (12:57):
You're feeling awkward about putting other people on the spot,
especially for something that might involve discomfort or a public challenge.
Here are a few alternative ways to handle it, because
this is the part that I don't like, is like
nominating someone else and like making them do it, because it's.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
Like that thing at a coffee line where you pay
it forward. Yeah, like you shouldn't force somebody the next
person to have to do that.

Speaker 1 (13:17):
Like what if someone doesn't have the means to do this?

Speaker 3 (13:19):
Exactly exactly so it says.

Speaker 2 (13:21):
Make it an opt in instead of a calling out.
If you're seeing this and you want to help spread
awareness for mental health this month, consider yourself invited to
join I like that. Or nominate organizations, not individuals. Nominate
a mental health nonprofit and that way it's still spreading
awareness without personal pressure. Or skip nominations entirely and just

(13:45):
tell people that you're doing this to help break the
stigma around mental health. No tags, just love. If this
inspires you jump on in.

Speaker 3 (13:53):
Okay, well I am because we are now invested in this. Yeah,
you are involved, obviously, I'm tagging you. I'm tagging you.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
This does support Active Minds, which is a leading nonprofit
organization dedicated to mental health awareness and suicide prevention, particularly
among young people. Founded in two thousand and three, this
is the hashtag speak your Mind ice bucket challenge and
so far as of May twenty twenty five. I don't
know when this started because I've only seen it pretty recently.

(14:25):
Same but it says the campaign has raised more than
four hundred thousand dollars, surpassing significantly initial fundraising goals.

Speaker 3 (14:33):
Yeah, and you found the website to donate, right.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
Yes, activeminds dot org.

Speaker 3 (14:38):
Okay, so we'll add that I'll do the challenge. I
am tagging you because you are the reason that I'm
doing this.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
I will do it, I promise, but I think I
also might take the route of consider yourself tagged if
you'd like to.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
Get in on this. I don't know that I'm going
to name anybody specific.

Speaker 3 (14:53):
Okay, I'm going to call people out now, I'm going
to tag you and else obviously you know it's coming.
And then my daughter, I was gonna do it to
me anyways, so I'm gonna do it to her, and
then she can do her grandparents or whatever. And then
people that I know aren't gonna get like, yeah, truly
truly upset or are gonna feel put out,
