Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, the Hollywood Shuffle was awesome and we're going

(00:02):
to wrap it up here momentarily, but I do want
to say this segment is brought to you by her
Toto Barbecue locations in Mansfield, Fort Worth, Arlington, two locations
at Global I Field, and one coming soon to Dallas
to the Farmer's Market. Our buddy Brandon Hurtado. Their own
family recipes. They're spent on Mexicue. It is delicious. So
go get you some Hurtito barbecue for dinner tonight. But

(00:24):
before we move forward, KT, let's finish the Hollywood Shuffle.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Yeah. So we were discussing a prank that happened a
long time ago, but it is SML's fiftieth seasons. Maybe
looking back at some of these things, it's funny, And
it happened on the podcast that Andy Sandberg and Seth
Myers do, and it's about a song called Roy Rules
that they got on the air on Surrey Not Live
in thousand and seven, which is about Andy's actual brother

(00:49):
in law. His sister married this guy, and he's like,
you know, what'd be funny if we did on a
live TV show. If he's watching it live and sees
it happen. But the song, while he's pretty normal, he's
good with the kids, and I would have sex with him,
you know, it kind of takes a big turn. So
the reason it didn't air that first time, and they

(01:12):
actually invited Royd to that show, so they wanted to
get on the air and it got pulled because they
had some language in there that the sensors were like, no,
this is really talking about the The network sensor lady
who's you know, got kind of like, okay, let's work together.
Here's what NBC wants, and I know you guys want
to get HJ on the air. So he's like, we

(01:32):
gotta find a way. And this is they're talking about
their meeting with the censors.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
What was the name of our censor too?

Speaker 1 (01:38):
That we love Betsy Torres.

Speaker 4 (01:40):
Yes, yes, we spent a lot of time with and
she would occasionally like really suggest horrible replacements or things
where you'd be like, my god. That was the great
thing about Betsy is that she would sometimes be offended
by a sort of modern bad word, and then she'd
pitch something from fifty years ago that had aged so badly.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
I was like this, guys, you're like, oh god, a
thousand times.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Imagine that too. In the SNL movie that I need
you guys to go see. There's a big, a big
part of the story, and that's a big part of
the story. But there's a lot of sensors like you
can't do that. You can't do that on the air,
you know. Well then, so Roy, Andy's brother in law,
was at that show. Now again, this did not air

(02:23):
and then until two weeks later because it got pulled
for time and because they had to switch that word
to rub downs. But the uh Roy was there though,
Okay two weeks earlier. Yeah, ended up not airing. And
this is very funny to me.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
We went to the show before it all, right, this.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
Is I'm sorry, this is Roy's voicemail. Okay, so this
is Roy just kind of explaining what happened.

Speaker 5 (02:49):
We went to the show before it aired, and I
think it was supposed to air that week but it
got pulled.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
So people seen the short.

Speaker 5 (02:55):
When we were hanging with Andy backstage, the different cast
members were really interested in meeting me.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
But then you know, it was one after another.

Speaker 5 (03:03):
So I thought this was a prank or kind of
a joke, and he was pulling on me like pretend
you're interested in my brother honner in law. I remember
when I met Seth. He was really excited, seemed to
be excited to meet me, Like you're Roy, the real Roy,
You're and he's brother in law Roy, And I was
like yeah, and I was starting to get annoyed.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
It was like, I'm not falling for this joke.

Speaker 5 (03:25):
But then I also remember Bill Hayter and Brian Tucker
sitting with me and asking me questions about my life
and really interested in my life and laughing at you know,
the wrong moments. They would laugh when I told him
I had three kids and what I did for a living,
and I found that awkward and weird.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
It's so great. Was like, man, why is Bill Hayter
asking me these basic questions and laughing at me? So
I like to run in the park and he just dies.

Speaker 5 (03:49):
Laughing, right, man.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
I think there's the last one.

Speaker 5 (03:53):
When it aired, I remember my friend Chris calling me
from New York.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
Oh, by the way, okay, so Roy lives in California
and the way they do SNL, so if it's ten
thirty here, you know it doesn't air until ten thirty
in California, So you know the whole West Coast to life.
If something bad happens too, they'll clean it up and
it'll air differently on the West coast, so he's not
seeing it live, so his buddy from the East coast
calls him like dude.

Speaker 5 (04:18):
When it aired, I remember my friend Chris calling me
from New York as I live in California and saying
did you see us?

Speaker 1 (04:23):
And now and whatever?

Speaker 5 (04:25):
And I was like what, And then I guess he
realized and just hung up. But then it aired and
I was like, oh, man, these characters because Andy, he's
been playing me and Andy been doing pranks on each
other for a bit, and so I guess this was
the ultimate prank. But I remember it after it aired,
and then people started calling me like crazy, my friends mainly,
and I was worried that I needed to change my

(04:45):
phone number or my email because I didn't want to
be harassed for the rest of my life.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
But that wasn't the case. So it's all good.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
It just perfect. It's like not even a very memorable
of the Lonely Island one. You remember d in a Box,
You remember I'm on a boat, the Natalie Portman rap
you or whatever, but that one is one of just
kind of an obscure one, and then hearing the whole
story behind it, I just loved it.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
Awesome.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
That never happens where they bring in a family member,
you know, and just prank him like that. It's never
happens on that show. It's also not fair. Of course
he's gonna win the prank war.

Speaker 6 (05:20):
He's on SNL, so you know what, I'm gonna get him,
and then I'm also gonna get him to make it
look like it's not even like saying bad things about him,
it's just making it weird and awkward for the entire
family because I just want to do him all the time.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
It's so crazy great, it's classic Samburg. Oh good. So
there's that. All right, let's go around the sports sports listeners.

Speaker 7 (05:43):
Here comes kt fun tweets around sports.

Speaker 6 (05:51):
Now.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
It's cool around the sports. Kt fun queens has all
the sports.

Speaker 8 (05:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (06:00):
Yeah, our guy Dak Prescott did an interview from his
car with Jorry Epstein, which you know, Dak out for
the year with a hammy that was ripped off the bone.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
She's with the Yahoo now or something.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
Who are us here today?

Speaker 8 (06:17):
I'm not sure.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
Well, regardless, I thought that was a power play and
really cool by her to get that exclusive with Dak,
and nice of Dak to do that for her. That
was just good all around.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
She's a sweet person. And uh, in this interview, though,
you're gonna hear and we've talked how much have we
talked about head coaches? Who's the next head coach going
to be? Because McCarthy's contract is up. Jerry made him
a lame duck coach and the Cowboys have been bad,
wasn't it this?

Speaker 9 (06:42):
Yeah, that I believe in them wholeheartedly. I don't want
to necessarily get into the nuts and the screws of
it all.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
Okay, hold on, nuts and bolts. Yeah, nuts, and that's
the screws.

Speaker 9 (06:54):
Is weird, the nuts and the screws of it all, obviously,
But I think he definitely deserves a chance another another contract,
And I had a chance to coach this team amongst
and and kind of I guess you can say more
influence on his terms maybe be a maybe a good
way to say it. But but I whole heartedly believe

(07:15):
in him. The guys won a Super Bowl. I know
Jay's attested to that. There's not many guys of coaches
who have done that and to have one that can
do it from experience, and I know how valuable he's
been for me.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
All Right, This is surprising because we've heard that Dak
is not a fan like you just hear rumors murmurs
whispers that maybe Dak's not a huge fan of McCarthy,
But that itself is complicated because last year, on McCarthy's watch,
he was the MVP runner up. So he had a
great year in McCarthy's system. This year not so much,

(07:47):
even you know, before he was injured.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
Yeah, it was bad.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
But when he says more influence on his terms, it
sounded like he was saying, McCarthy needs to be able
to shop for the groceries, McCarthy needs to have more
of a say as to what goes on with personnel.
And you could look at that and say, okay, okay,
now this is the smoking gun. They lost all these guys,
they lost some free agents, they lost some players, and

(08:11):
they didn't really replace them. They kind of took the
off season off. And so that's what Dak's saying. You
you know, if McCarthy had had more of a say
in the off season, we'd be better off. And that's
what it felt like to me that Dak was saying yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
And I also think, you know, Dak's not gonna dump
on him in an interview, right, so clearly like he's
gonna say the right thing. How much Dak likes Mike,
I really don't know. I do think that those guys
at that point in their career Dex's thirties, now it's weird.
I don't the idea of learning a whole new offense
doesn't sound my only my I guess experience with this

(08:47):
with Aaron Rodgers when McCarthy left. Now, I do think
Rogers helped get McCarthy out of there, but the whole
new offense coming in he didn't like Love Matt Lefflore's offense.
And then once Rodgers is gone and Jordan Love takes
over Matt before his offense is doing crazy things that
were never possible with Aaron Rodgers because he was too stubborn.
Today it's kind of funny, like, I don't know, you

(09:11):
get real comfortable learning a new thing that is that big,
a whole new offense when you're that good, But I
can see where you'd be like, why do I need
to learn a whole new offense so maybe it's part
of that. Now McCarthy gets asked about this today, here's
a John Michouda in an.

Speaker 10 (09:25):
Interview Esra Dad talked about how much he believes in you,
how much he wants you to be the coach beyond
this season, and in there he talked about how he'd
like to see you get more influence and he'd like
to see you coach on your terms. Do you think
that you've been able to have enough influence and coach
on your terms?

Speaker 8 (09:42):
Yes, and clear understanding of the of the responsibilities. This
is the most input I've ever been a part of
as a head coach in personnel, so particularly in the draft.
You know, we spend a tremendous amount of time as
a coaching staff, you know during the you know the draft,
you know, draft selection preparation process, so you know, and
it's different. I'm just trying to give you an answer,

(10:04):
trying to compare it to you know, my past. But yeah,
so I'm not sure exactly you know what he meant by,
but yeah, I think it's just like anything.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
Okay, Okay, So that's really interesting to me. I heard
Kevin Hagelan talking about this. I love Hagey, and he
was talking about how, okay, Dak got you a free pass,
because now here's your alibi for why you guys suck,
and you just said, no, I don't need that alibi.
I am the reason I'm I chose Guidon, I chose Scoonmaker,

(10:35):
I chose Mazi. Those are my guys. I've never had
this much. Say well, then, dude, then you're solely responsible.
But he didn't say free agency, so maybe he just meant, hey,
I would have loved to have had some more free agents,
but Jerry decided to take the off season off. I
don't know. This was a confusing thing for me. Number one,
I didn't think Dak was a huge fan of McCarthy,

(10:55):
which maybe he is, or maybe he's just saying the
right hand might be. And then Dak and you bring
up a great point. Maybe he doesn't want a whole
new offense. But then to have McCarthy the next day
say no, I have more control here than I've ever
had anywhere.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
So he's made a few statements macarthy as before these
last two wins that made me start to thinking, okay,
he's kind of an e fit mode, right, And then
he won a couple of games and now it might
be like, Okay, well maybe there's a chance that he
does come back. And now he's like, well, I'm not
going to undercut Jerry here. That's the way I might be.

(11:29):
That's why I think I'm reading into this.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
So he's gonna get a nude he don't want to
go team either.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
Well, Dack said whatever, but I don't. I'm not undercut
now his point about the past, McCarthy had no saying
green Bay. Green Bay is not let their coaches do
the draft picks. They let their scouts handle it the
way it should be personally, Well, they let the scouts
pick it, and then the coaches. Your job is to coach,

(11:55):
not pick the players. Here, I do think I think
he had saying this and make her pick. I think
dan Quinn had saying the Massie Smith pick. Coaches have
always had a little bit of say here, and it's
been okay because I saw a big graft that was
like the best drafting NFL teams in the last twenty years.
Number five was the Cowboys, Number one was the Packers.
And I think I would disagree with some of that

(12:16):
on the Green band, But like, what's gonna be interesting,
like if you win, if you keep winning, I don't
think macarthy's gonna say anything that puts his job in jeopardy.
I do think every single win makes that probability of
him being here next year or next two to three
years way more possible.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
Okay, well, I don't want that. I'm ready for a change,
and I wonder if Dak is saying this. Another theory
I had was maybe Dak is supporting McCarthy because he
knows which way Jerry is leaning on the replacement, and
maybe he doesn't believe in that, like maybe Jerry's dead
said on Dion or something that Dak is like, ooh no,

(12:54):
McCarthy's at least better than whatever.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
Belichick a hard alicheck that when you have easy to
talk to, or maybe it's witting or you know, it
could be something that Jerry wants to do that Dak's like, yeah,
I don't know about that.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
Maybe he doesn't like those candidates. And I will say
this too. You might think, oh, they should be talking
to their sixty million dollar guy. They should be talking
to their quarterbacks, seeing what he wants and letting him
influence either who the coaches or who the personnel is,
who the draft picks are, who the free agents are.
And I can just tell you in talking to Tony Romo,

(13:27):
you know, pretty closely and off the record during the
time when he was the starting quarterback, and they never
asked him anything. Yeah, they didn't ask him anything. He
was not involved. He couldn't. He didn't go in and say, hey,
I'd like you to draft Zeke. I'd like you know,
they weren't talking to him about that stuff. From my perspective,
I don't think they're that forward thinking. I mean, this
is a team that doesn't like they don't even want

(13:48):
to interview coaches like they let Garrett do that forever
they hire.

Speaker 2 (13:51):
They interviewed two guys.

Speaker 1 (13:53):
You think you think they missed on Guiden.

Speaker 2 (13:56):
I think it's it doesn't look great right now, but
I don't think they miss they needed. I think they
need new coaching staff, Like across the board. Mazzi Mozzi
has been better. I it's year two, so it should
be better. Yeah, goon Maker's not good. Schoonmaker's actually coming around,

(14:16):
So I don't know. I mean, overshowing makes up for
it the same way Deron Bland makes up for whatever
happened in that draft. That's true. You go, oh, Deron
Bland gonna be one on one on Jamar Chase on
Monday night. That game's gonna be fun because Cincinnati's defense sucks,
but Joe Burrows playing like an MVP that Monday has
to be fun. And we're gonna watch the Simpsons alt cast.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
Yeah, that's right, it is a Simpsons game.

Speaker 2 (14:41):
We didn't have time to talk about the MAVs, but
maybe maybe we'll sneak it in the big finish because
I think last night's win was fun.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
Yeah, massive win for the Mavericks. They were trailing by
twelve points with eight thirty four left, finished on a
twenty seven to ten run and won that game. It
was amazing. They shot a ton of free throws, they
missed a lot a lot of free throws, had a
lot of turnovers, and they still won that game nine
to one in their last ten All right, coming up next,
it's the Today game. The only segment that won't be podcasted.
