Speaker 1 (00:04):
Faith Freedom, Florida. This is the Brian Mud Show, and tonight,
for the.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
First time in just over five years, President Trump will
address a joint session of Congress. Our senior Senator Reck
Scott joining us now to talk about it. Senator Scott,
good morning, And what would you like to hear from
the President tonight?

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Well, I want to. I think he's got a lot
to brag about. First off, he said he was going
to secure the border, and he's done it, so I
think that's a big deal. I think he's trying to
put together a really good cabinet team and he has
and we've got most of them confirmed now, so I
think he can he can talk about that. I think
the things that you know, I want to hear about

(00:48):
it is I want to hear about how we're going
to get peace in Ukraine and around the world, which
he left when he left office in twenty twenty one.
We were at peace around the world, so or I've
been bringing that back. And then how were we gonna
get inflation into control. It's one of the biggest issues
in my in you know, in Florida, and I still
hear it every weekend when I get home. So we've

(01:11):
got to get inflation into control. We've got to get
more full time job. So I want to hear how
are you going to do that?

Speaker 1 (01:15):
You mentioned the Ukraine situation.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
Obviously we're aware of what happened on Friday yesterday, the
President pausing additional military equipment to Ukraine. Zolensky talking about
how this thing is going on for years, doesn't really
seem like he's committed to peace. It sounds like he
wants the US and Europe to fight Russia for him
as much as anything, keep the gravy train going as well.

(01:38):
What do you make of u Zelensky situation at this point?
What do you prefer to see from a policy approach
at this point?

Speaker 3 (01:49):
Well, I want Russian to loose. They're clearly invaded there,
you know they so I want them to lose. I
want Ukraine to keep their democracy. Uh, And I went
the war. Now that's awesolly hard to do. It takes
everybody involved to be able to do it. They'll take
your Ukraine, it'll take uh Russia, it will take anybody
that's been disappointing them. So uh, you know, we all

(02:12):
have to figure out how to come together to to
get peace and to stop. You know, the aggression of
whether it's Iran in its proxies, or whether it's Russia
or whether it's China, We're going to have to figure
out how we deal with these uh, these you know,
basically unbelievable international bullies.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Consenter Scott, do you believe that President Trump has handled
this appropriately to this point?

Speaker 3 (02:36):
I think he's doing everything he can. I thinks Alynski
needs to apologize. I think he needs to acknowledge what
the United States has done.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
The europe needs to stand up and be a partner
if they, I mean, this is in their backyard, so
they should be taking the lead on this. So but
I think the President's done exactly what he you know,
he promised he's gonna do anything he can to end
this war.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
He wants Ukraine to win, he wants to lose. But
you know, it's just going to bring it. You got
to get everybody at the table to get up and done.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
Senator, the President is indicated he wants a one bill
what it calls one big beautiful bill to address his
agenda as part of the budget reconciliation process.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
The Senate was the first to go.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
Senator Lindsey Graham took the lead and put forward a
two bill approach, with the first focused on border and
defense agendas among others, with the.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
Tax piece that would be separate.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
That was passed forward in the Senate a couple of
weeks ago in setting that up for reconciliation. After that,
you had the House that did manage to go ahead
and pass what would be a one bill approach for
the reconciliation process, and they're underway with committees working on
the one bill approach. What do you think is the
appropriate posture should we be pursuing the Senate's two bill

(03:56):
approach or the House's one bill approach.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
I don't think it matters. I think what matters is
that we gets up and done. We've got to the border,
we've got to plus up our military, we've got to
send the Trump tax cuts, we've got to reduce them
some additional taxes, and balance the budget. So whether it's
one bill or ten bills, I think we've got to
figure out how to get this done.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Has the Senate's conversation Has Senator Graham, for example, has
his posture changed at all since the House was successful
in passing the one bill approach?

Speaker 3 (04:29):
No, he's in the same position I'm in that. You know,
I'm on Budget Committee with him, that we all want
to get this done, and we're we're fine with our approach.
We're fine with the House approach. We've just got to
come to an agreement on what we're going to do here.
You know, we're spending two train dollars more than we
take in. We're inflation is caused by massive government spending.

(04:51):
Inflation is caused by our federal reserve building the balance seat.
That doesn't make any sense. So we have you know,
we've we've got to figure out how to get get
this balancet under control. So Lindsey Graham is the same
position I am. He's okay with it, don't care how
many bills, but let's get all this done.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
Sunshine Protection Act.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
We've talked about this many times over the years, Governor
and Senator when you were governor and getting this signed
into law in Florida, since you've been Senator and have
been working every year to try to get this across
the finish line. We have a president now who is
from the state of Florida. There is a Republican majority
in Congress. Is this the year we get the Sunshine

(05:34):
Protection Act across the finish line.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
I'm hopeful we've got a lock to clock the new
thing here is the president's way in. He wants to
lock to clock. So hopefully everybody you know would listen.
You know, now every bill takes sixty votes in the Senate,
so it's hard to get sixty people to support something.
But we have got to figure out how to stop

(05:58):
going back and forth for Florida. It will save the sunshine.
So we just we got to keep working on. So
I'm optimistic.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
Is there anything that we could do on that would
be helpful in this process?

Speaker 3 (06:10):
But every House member and soon a member you know
how important this is. Yeah, I don't care whether they're
in Florida or not. Actually is clearly supportive of it
in the Senate. To talk to every House member you know,
to push it, push it from their standpoint, and hopefully
we'll get there.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
All right, That sounds good. Tell us about your guest
for tonight.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
My guess is my beautiful wife, Ann the So the
I've had I've had a variety of guests, but she
wanted to come to hear President Trump tonight. That last
year I had Rep. Uh listener. Uh, I've had I've
had Hong Kong protesters. I've had a variety of people,

(06:54):
uh to you know, talk about you know, it's like
the importance of Hong Kong theocracy. And that was just
you know, I'm just going to keep bringing people. But
Anne wanted to come. She appreciates the president's agenda. She
wanted to support the president, so she wanted to come tonight.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
That is a great choice for any number of reasons.
And having had the pleasure of spending some time over
the years with with your wife, she is a truly
wonderful Yeah, you're definitely your better half and truly a
wonderful guest, in addition to that making you a smart husband.

Speaker 3 (07:33):
Yeah, So it'll be it'll be fine. It'll be fine
to listen to the president's speech that I hope everybody listens.
And we got we got we've got a lot of
problems in this country, and we've got a lot of
problems around the world, and we all have to come
together to solve them.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
Well said one more thing for you while we got
a minute here.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
So kind of an interesting day in the state of Florida,
right because today is going to be the State of
the State address. We're going to kick off the state
legislative session while we also have this joint address before Congress.
You know what it's like to deliver these State of
the State addresses. What is it as a Floritian that
you would like to see the state legislature prioritize in
this session?

Speaker 3 (08:13):
Well, if you if you talk to people around the
state's property insurance, the biggest issue we got down is
property insurance. I always think, I always when I'm governor,
I wish to try to think about two three things.
Create the best economy in the world, Creating an education
system where when students finish, they get great jobs, and

(08:34):
keep people safe. If you listen right now around Florida
when people are worried about his property insurance. So I know,
I've talked to the Speaker and I've talked to the
Senate President. They know it. They're going to do everything
they can, and they feel like they've done some stuff
already and hopefully that will take effect and get this
property insurance under control in the state.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
Senator Rick Scott, and my best to Anne as well.

Speaker 3 (08:59):
You will Hie takes to say, Brian, but I have
a good day you two
