Speaker 1 (00:04):
Faith freedom. This is the Brian mudshoe it is, and
Happy Friday to you. Happy Friday to our White House
correspondent John Decker.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
John, interesting week. You have the recisions package just cleared
the House on the way that the President's test today.
You also have the overhang the Epstein stuff and the
President directing Attorney General Pam Bondi to release the grand
jury testimony that she said she's going to release today.
Kind of fill us in what's going on here.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Well, let's talk first about the recisions package. You remember
that this is all because of the work of DOGE,
the Department of Government Efficiency. These were some of the
recommendations of dog Elon Musk DOGE, And there likely will
be a bill signing ceremony sometime next week at the
White House, and I'm wondering, and I will ask the President,
(00:58):
will you invite Elon Musk to that bill signing ceremony.
Has not had a very good relationship, but maybe this
is a way to patch things up. Invite him over
to the White House and essentially, you know, call it
even with each other, and thank Elon Musk for the
work that the Department of Government Efficiency did in terms
of finding these cuts in the federal budget.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
We're also hearing that might not be and that's a
good one, John, I look forward to that question, and
that might not be the only we're hearing. There could be,
you know, additional precisions, packages and spending maneuvers. The other
thing too, that was big and certainly your expertise is
the only attorney on the White House Press Corps as well.
So you had the Supreme Court clearing the way for
(01:40):
the reps or reduction enforces that have been in place
in many federal government agencies, something I was just talking about.
And if you take a look at the cost savings
associated with that, that could be huge too. Just at
the eleven point nine percent that is in motion right
now with the federal government that comes out of savings
of thirty three billion a year.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
Well, that's exactly right, you know. And are there areas
for savings in terms of the costs of all of
that workforce in the federal government. Of course there are,
and you know that's exactly what is aimed at this
And now that the green light has been given by
the Supreme Court, the plans of the Office of Management
(02:20):
and Budget can go forward. There have been already layoff
notices that have been handed out at the State Department.
I believe two thousand individuals reduction in force there, and
we'll see that happen in every federal department and agency
across the federal government.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
John, the Epstein stuff, you want to walk us through
kind of this situation, any thoughts you have around it
as well?
Speaker 3 (02:47):
Well. It's surprising to me, first and first of all, Brian,
that this story has had the legs that it has,
because typically you've seen this, the news cycle moves so
quickly that we move on to something else. You know,
you think about Signalgate, you know that lasted about a
week or so, then we moved on to something else.
This one stuck around, and that to me is rather surprising.
(03:10):
I think the President surprised by that as well. But
you know, the President also saying it really is up
to his Attorney General, Pam Bondi, to decide what kind
of information to release, what kind of redactions to have
as it relates to the files related to Jeffrey Epstein.
But you know, I think it's been interesting also, Brian,
(03:31):
to see that very prominent voices within the Republican Party
are calling for the full release of all the files
associated with Jeffrey Epstein. Whether you're talking about Josh Hawley,
Republican Senator from Missouri, or even Michael Flynn. General Flynn,
who served as National Security advisor for President Trump in
his first term, who was pardoned by President Trump, he
(03:53):
too is among those MAGA supporters. They are mega supporters,
but they're also calling for the release of this material.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
Any any expectations for what is coming if we get
the grand jury testimony today, I do not.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
Have any idea. I don't think anybody does. Quite frankly,
to me, this is if you watch the White House
press briefings, you know, or you see opportunities for the
president to take questions, you will notice, Brian, I don't
really ask any questions about asking and I I asked
questions about things that you know, have real relevance for
(04:31):
the American public, for the world citizenry at large, and
you know, to me, I realized why it's an important
issue for some people, So I'm not dismissing their concerns,
but at the same time, for me, it's not the
biggest issue out there, and that's why I ask questions
on other relevant issues that also have relevance to the
American public.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Our White House correspondent John Decker, appreciate it. As always, John,
have a great weekend.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
Thanks Brian, have a great weekend. Talk to you soon.
By bye.
