Speaker 1 (00:00):
Today's Q and A of the day, which political party,

(00:02):
but if it's most from voter fraud. This is brought
to you by Melissa and Ash's check Mark Collections. Each
day I feature a listener question sent by one of
these methods. You may email me Brian Mutt at iHeartMedia
dot com, hit me up on social app Brian mud Radio,

(00:24):

may do what this Shelman did.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Brian, I want to ask about voter fraud. How many
are Democrats and how many of the cases that you've
mentioned are Republicans.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
Yeah, so perception is said to be reality, right, It
is often the case in my experience, matters of voter
fraud tend to defy those expectations. Democrats will commonly say
there's not meaningful voter fraud, and if there is, it's
publicans who are responsible. Republicans often say there's considerable a
voter fraud, while asserting it's to the advantage of Democrats.

(01:06):
And I'll start with the disclaimer that we don't know
what we don't know. And to that end, be mindful
that we still have one hundred and thirty six officially
referred but still unpursued voter fraud cases in Florida alone,
and that comes after the state's recent announcement of twenty
arrests by the newly install Election Crimes Division. So you

(01:28):
start looking at that in context, and you know the
view of the possible across the country, plus the stuff
that will under the radar man, there's a lot there.
But that said, there is a significant sample of successfully
prosecuted voter fraud cases that does paint a partisan picture

(01:50):
a voter fraud. But first I want to start with
the high level facts. I think it's all really important
to suss out what is absolutely evident. Since nineteen eighty
there have been one thousand, three hundred and seventy five
proven cases of voter fraud. By that, I mean through
the legal system has been determined, not up to interpretation. Okay,

(02:14):
there have been within those thirteen hundred and seventy five
proven cases, one thousand, one hundred and eighty two criminal
convictions for voter fraud.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
There has been.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
Proven voter fraud in all fifty states. There has been
evidence voter fraud in every election cycle, and there have
been thirty two criminal convictions thus far in twenty twenty
two alone, stemming from voter fraud and prior election cycles.
That came after twenty one criminal convictions last year. And

(02:48):
isn't that noteworthy that already this year, through the first
eight months, we've had far more criminal convictions for what
happened in twenty twenty than we did all last year.
Gives you an idea about the legal system of how
it takes time. I think there are a few highly
instructive points associated with those.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
Types of baseline facts.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
First, it's demonstrably false to assert that voter fraud doesn't
occur or that it's not a meaningful concern anyone, and
I do mean anyone who operates and those talking points
is lying and they retain no credibility when talking about
this stuff. It happens in every cycle, it occurs in
every state, and that leads to the next point. Remaining
vigilant is always important because there's always someone who's looking

(03:29):
to try to steal an election.

Speaker 3 (03:31):
And on that note, it often takes years to.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
Obtain justice for those who are eventually prosecuted and It's
notable that though the first eight months of the year
this year, there are more criminal convictions for voter fraudstemming
from the twenty twenty election than in the whole prior year.
You take a look at Florida's recent actions to pursue
previously unpursued voter fraud cases, that's probably going to prove

(03:57):
true again next year. I mean, think about it, We're
going to have another election cycle and we will likely
be prosecuting the most cases yet for voter fraud in
twenty twenty next year, and have happened in the two
years in between. It's for all these reasons that it's
critical to attempt to thwart voter fraud on the front

(04:20):
end a lah or his election integrity laws, to send
a strong message on the and also to send a
strong message on the back end, be a rigorous prosecutions
for anybody who offends. And with that said, to the
question that was specifically presented to me on the politics
of it all, for the ease of presentation, I'm going
to break down just what has been prosecuted year to date.

(04:46):
If we take a look at the parson bend of
those engaged in voter fraud. With this year's thirty two convictions,
we see that fourteen of those criminal convictions have been
those who are committing fraud on behalf Democrats. We see
that ten of those perps committed fraud on behalf of Republicans,

(05:10):
and we see that eight or committing fraud in either
nonpartisan races or it wasn't able to be determined what
the partisan bend was of the voter fraud. What I
can tell you, based on having studied the topic regularly
over the course of my career, is this type of
breakout is typical. No party has monopoly on voter fraud.

(05:33):
You have operatives on both sides that try it, though
there are slightly more Historically Democrats found to be guilty
of engaging in it. And this is the latest reminder
that all voters should care about integrity and elections and
that political talking points often don't match reality.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
In one other related note.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
Most commonly when Democrats have been convicted, most recently, it's
been for a ballot harvesting activity in states where it's illegal.
When the Republicans have been involved, it's most commonly been
for voting in multiple locations, commonly in two different states.
So there do appear to be some themes in generalities
with the way that parisons tend to attempt to carry

(06:12):
out their voter fraud
