Speaker 3 (00:22):
News Talk eleven thirty WSN Nick the Construction Guru. Another
exciting show. I was able to wrestle with the Pondfather
himself yesterday and get his top guy in here to
talk to me, Sean Galloway. Sean, how long you've been
with Aquatica but.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Twenty four to twenty five years?
Speaker 3 (00:41):
Wow? Yeah, you think it's going to work out?
Speaker 2 (00:44):
I think.
Speaker 4 (00:45):
So I got like four more months of probationary time
and then I think I'm good.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Then you get your true day vacation. Yeah. Yeah, So
I wanted you guys on because again I went. I
think a lot of people know that we collaborate with
with different contractors that do different things than we do.
And one of the one of the things that I
always talk about when I see a terrain that is
(01:11):
difficult and I'll explain that in a minute, is I
think to you guys, because I went and visited one
of our customers Matt. A lot of people have heard
me talk about Matt on the show several times because
he's done so much work with us. But he has
a very difficult terrain at his house, a lot of
maple trees which create a canopy that grass doesn't grow,
(01:35):
and it's kind of lost space.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Right.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
One of the things that I had been talking to
him about for probably a couple of years was getting
Aquatica out there to take a look at this. And
I'm realizing now that I just assume that most of
my listeners know who you guys are. Tell us about
Aquatica before I tell the rest of this story.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
Quatica we are located at two two seven James Street
in Wales, wiscon very.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
Cool showroom and very cool. You have a lot of
water features going on there right right. Yeah, if somebody
comes by, they can see a lot of stuff that
you guys do exactly.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
We got pond out front, ponds and water features out back,
Koi goldfish everywhere. We have a big plant selection. We're
actually in the middle of doing a nice greenhouse that
we'll have ready for twenty twenty six.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Hey, does Angie really love doing that or does she
just smile because she's outside. Oh no, she was like, yeah,
she's so into the plants.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
Yeah right, yeah, she does. She loves the plants. I
mean she's been doing it her whole life.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
You know.
Speaker 4 (02:35):
I call her the plant Queen. She knows, she knows
everything about plants inside outside of the outside of the pond,
so she can cover everything. But yeah, we have a
large selection of Koi goldfish, like I said before, aquatic plants.
We can give you ideas what to put around the
water feature if you do it yourself, or you can
come into our shop. We can definitely help you. We
(02:56):
have everything you need where one stop shop. Deans start
the company back in two thousand. I have to board
in two thousand and one and it's great.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
I love it.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
Every day is something new. It's fun. We're not just
sitting behind a desk. You know, we're out there building.
Like you said, we had a challenge with that last job.
You're talking about Matt's place, and you know, we love
a good challenge. We had the meander through the trees
with the waterfalls. The guys did great. You were out
there a couple of times and saw it. I've heard
great things about it. I can't wait to see it,
(03:27):
and yeah, it's it's it's always something new that we
run into, and that's what's fun about it. There's there's
sometimes a good challenge that we have to face, and
that's what makes it fun because it's so rewarding, not
only for the client, it's so rewarding for us at
the end of the day for the guys to step
back and say, wow, you know we did this. We
it was a blank canvas, which we love and we
(03:49):
were able to work it and make it look great.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
You and you do make it look great. I got
to tell you I was I knew it was going
to be great because I you know, I've been working
with you guys for years, but it beyond my expectations
because when I looked at that lot, I was like,
what are they going to do with this? And I
go there the Koon Brothers where they're working, and they
had even when they had it set in place, I
was like, holy cow, this is awesome. There's three different
(04:15):
four different waterfalls, there's a bridge over the over the sidewalk,
the sound. All that lost space which was just nothing
but maple leaves and pretty much dirt, is now a
waterfall and it's awesome. I think that more people need
to see what you guys do, because when we talk
about water features, I think a lot of people think
(04:36):
of these fountains that you get at the big box
stores or you know, whimsical little water umbrellas and guys
peing in a little right, right. I mean that's what
people think. But you guys literally I learned this many
years ago. You guys literally take a trip once a
year and go take a look at different natural features, streams, rivers, waterfalls,
(04:59):
and and if I would challenge you know, you guys
will probably have Matt on your on your Facebook page, yep,
when it gets on there, I would challenge people to
take a look at that. You can't tell that that's
not a real, real waterfall in his.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
Yard, right, Yeah?
Speaker 3 (05:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
I mean our guys we go on those waterfall trips.
Those guys get inspiration and they're they're true artists out there,
you know, And I'll I'll find anybody that says we're not.
But these guys are true artists. You know, our cruise
Garrick west And and Aaron zach Nick and Jake. I mean,
they're out there doing their work and it's what they
(05:41):
do is awesome. It's it's just great to see.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (05:47):
It's like I said, they're up for any type of challenge.
And uh they take great pride in their work, which
is also great. I mean, these guys have been with
us for a long time and they love what they do,
and they they take a lot of pride in their work.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
They really do. They really do, I mean no doubt
about it. I wanted to talk about another thing that
I think is probably not well known, but this pondless
waterfall stuff.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
When you say that, you know, you think about the
water running. It has to end up somewhere, and most
I think in the past, most people have like a
bottom reservoir that they call a pond, right right. But
the pondless it just kind of disappears into the ground.
So you dig a big, big hole, if you will,
and you create an area where the water goes in
(06:40):
there and just gets recycled back up. And what I
love about that is that you don't even in small areas,
a pondless will work.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
Yeah, I mean the posses can go any any area,
you know, the smaller backyards in West Dallas to you know,
we're about to break ground on a I think it's
a ninety five foot long pond liss and in the
guy's backyard. We do a lot of renovating from ponds
to pondlesses. We have some clients that are have had
(07:10):
ponds for twenty years. They're getting older and they want
something with easier maintenance, so they'll we'll do renovations, doing
their large pond and creating a pondless out of it.
And we're even like right now, the guys are working
on a different feature where we built this pond list
probably fifteen years ago, and now we're renovating it, adding
to it. You know, we're adding different waterfalls, we're doing
(07:34):
some of the stream work, and I mean that's the
unique thing about ponds too, is you can always renovate
and add to it. As you know, with half power,
we renovated that one off, renovated that one three or
four times.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
I know with Kurzner. Yeah, you know, I started out
with bubbling pasalt columns right right. We took that out,
We created a stream, we put two waterfalls in there,
put another waterfall out side, and you know, I learned
so much by working with your guys when what happens.
You know, Austin was there, did a great job. This
(08:09):
is backbreaking work though, I mean, you know, I always
I always come to the site. You guys are there
with the equipment. Then I come back later and basically
the ponds in and the water falls in and the
rocks are placed. And I never realized.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
You found out firsthand, Holy cow.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
And you know what, there's an art to it. Yeah,
there's an art to just making the sounds right. You
guys work to get the sound right right.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
It's not just digging a hole and throwing the rocks in.
It's all in how. It's all in how the rocks
are set for that sound. And our guys, you know,
they got that nailed down of how you know, if
you want a sheet rock, if you want a meandering falls,
all in how you want it. But yeah, it's it's
definitely a very unique process of doing it. A lot
(08:53):
of people think it's you know, it's a lot easier
than it is. And our guys probably make it look.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
A lot of easy really, and it does.
Speaker 4 (08:59):
Because they're just pers they know exactly what they're doing
and they know, you know, if you want that sound,
they'll get that for you.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
You know one of the things I've been telling people
now because I've stopped in at the shop several times
this year. Uh, you guys have the dream Book, and
the dream Book is absolutely it's almost like a cop
Remember when they used to say coffee table breaks, right,
The dream Book at Aquatica is like a call. That's
something you could put on your on your coffee table
(09:27):
because it's just the photography is awesome, the features are beautiful.
And like I've always said to Dean, and I've said
it to you several times too, the one of the
challenges you guys have in this business is when people
look at your stuff, they think it's it's okay. They
took a picture of a waterfall up north. You guys
created some of that on flat ground.
Speaker 4 (09:46):
Right right, Yeah, I mean, like I said, that's a
unique part of it. It is nice to have a slope,
you know, for the waterfalls, but more times than not,
we're dealing with a blank canvas, a flat surface. And
you know that's what makes it unique is we have
to incorporate that feature in the backyard so it doesn't
stick out like a sore thumb. We wanted to look
(10:07):
like it's been there the whole time. Nature built it well.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
And one of the things that I learned. I don't
know if this is more often than not, but I
had an area at my house that was kind of
useless between the house and the garage. I talk about
it on the show all the time. You guys put
at that time a bubbling rock in there, and it
created a whole different sense of the area. Up north.
(10:35):
Your meandering waterfall actually hides my septic system, okay. And
then it comes around to an area a hill where
it was just an ugly area. I couldn't keep rock
on it, nothing would grow on it. Now it's a waterfall.
Guy came and delivered some rocks and he said, what
are you guys doing here? And the excavator came back
and he said, here, look at this, and he flipped
(10:56):
the switch and the guy goes, oh my god, that's
the coolest thing I've ever seen. So they are and
and and here's the other thing. I said this yesterday.
I think I said it to Dean in Austin. But
what Matt did. I know what it cost, and it's
not inexpensive, but I was like, that's not a lot
(11:17):
of money for what's going on here. You know, it's
just they're very affordable.
Speaker 4 (11:20):
Yeah yeah, I mean they're not as expensive as you
would think. I mean, this is something that's going to
last you a lifetime. A lot of people are taking
their their swimming pools and taking those out and installing ponds.
You know, their kids aren't home anymore, not enjoying the pool,
so they'll get their pool removed in sall a water
(11:40):
feature something so they can still hear that sound. And
that's a unique thing about pondlesses. If you you know,
if you travel a lot. We have a lot of
clients to travel a lot. If you want something easy maintenance,
not something you have to take care of all the
all the time, like with a fish and coy pond.
You can have a pond less. You can turn it
off and on, but you hear that sound of that water.
(12:01):
And that's what a lot of the people are going for,
is that sound. It's great for songbirds, all different types
of birds. So it's a it's a great thing.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
You know, I'm gonna we're gonna talk about that with
the pond list about you know, basically fish and things
like that. I want to tell you a couple of
things that have happened to me that I think you
probably know, but I don't think we've ever talked about.
But we'll do that right after this break. We got.
We gotta pay for the show, so we're gonna shoot
it out on break and we'll come back and then
I want to talk to you about some of that,
and I also want to talk to you about some
(12:30):
of the maintenance, because you guys really have the only
maintenance program when it comes to this stuff. So yeah,
we'll talk about that after break. All right, We will
return after these messages on News Talk eleven thirty w
I s N Talk eleven thirty w I s N.
(12:51):
Returning from break, Nick the construction Guru. We are having
trouble taking break, So Greg, my producer, has told me
that you're gonna start hearing the bell when it's time
for break time. He likes that. I think it's because
he reminds him of the dinner bell when he was
in school. But anyway, we have a returning guest on,
(13:11):
Sean Galloway from Aquatica. I have had some some recent
experiences with them, and I wanted to get them on
the show and share that before I do that. I
just want to let you know, if you're thinking about
a remodeling project, always get a few few estimates, talk
to a few people, see if you're a good match.
We would love it if you would make us one
(13:32):
of those. You can reach us on the web at
kursonerink dot com or give us a call at two six'
to two five, seven twenty five. Hundred kersoner is the
only company In wisconsin when A Better Business Beer Torch
award For ethics And integrity three times. Again reach us
at two six two five six seven twenty five, hundred
and we'd be happy to come out and take a
(13:52):
look at your. Project, sean thanks for coming on. TODAY
i really appreciate. IT i know you guys have been
just just JUST i GUESS i can't say What i'm.
Thinking busting backs to get things.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
Done, yeah, yeah we're battling mother nature at that time
of the.
Speaker 4 (14:08):
Year, yeah, yep it's always that time of year when
mother nature is going to sneak up on.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
Us so before we.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
Went on, break you brought up koi AND i know
THAT i love the, koi AND i think That aquatica
has probably THE i don't know where there's a bigger
selection In wisconsin Of koi, fishing different, sizes different. COLORS
i was there yesterday AND i was walking around the
tanks and there's some beautiful fish, there AND i understand
why people love to have, them but that does add
(14:34):
a little bit of maintenance to the. Project and you,
said we can do it without the. Fish but one
of the things THAT i noticed with the waterfalls up,
north we have toads. Everywhere now that we have a,
waterfall we have these green. Frogs, yeah and they're coming
around and it's almost like and you, know the the
garments that we, have we have the backyard bufet every
(14:54):
morning so the cats can watch the squirrels and the.
Chipmunks they're going in the water. Too, yeah so it's, like,
hey this is. Cool we can we can wash up
whatever it, is but it's fun to watch, that so.
Speaker 4 (15:04):
Right, YEAH i mean it's it tracks all sorts of
different type of. Wildlife just the other, DAY i was
looking out at our back. Feature there was some blue
jays back, there you, know swimming in the. Stream we've
had deer, fox all different types of critters back. There
it's fun to. See and that's what a lot of our,
clients you, know they want those, pondlesses the bubbling, rocks the.
(15:29):
Ponds they want that for the wildlife to, come especially the.
Birds you, know the birds will.
Speaker 3 (15:35):
Love the dragon.
Speaker 4 (15:38):
Dragon, yeah all different types of. Insects So i've even
had turtles at. Home, yeah, YEAH i mean, turtles. Frogs
like you, said toads will migrate in and out to the. Future,
yeah we've built specific features just for.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
That so another, thing now THAT i have a pond
list AND i have you, know the bubbling rocks and,
things you, know let's talk about maintenance a little. Bit,
Yeah i'm amazed that there's some simple chemicals that you
can get that will keep the water, clear which rarely
gets foggy except the. Fall, Here i'm seeing some of. That.
(16:14):
Right you guys gave me some enzyme. Stuff and here's
what's cool about. That you, know your poor chlorina or
that's that's bad too for the, environment, right.
Speaker 4 (16:23):
That's, bad it's bad for the. Pumps you never want
to do. That we have all natural bacteries en times
you can put in the feature that are safe for,
Everything safe for your pets if your dog drinks the,
water stuff like.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
That so there's there's always a.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
Way there's a learning.
Speaker 4 (16:40):
Curve, yeah with, everything there's a learning, curve and that's
where you can come in and we can talk to
you about, everything give you. Ideas you can give us
a call two six two nine six eight five five four,
zero go to our website quaticapons dot com and you
can send in questions there. Also but we're there to.
HELP i, mean it's our guys have been with us
(17:01):
for a long. Time we have a full fledged maintenance.
Program we've Got Chris Nick sean and these guys have
seen it. All they they know what they're doing and
they can answer any questions for. YOU i can help,
you you. Know LIKE i, said our guys have been
doing this a long long time and they've the thing
(17:24):
they're talking.
Speaker 3 (17:24):
ABOUT i just learned, now which is. Cool you. Know
one of the things up north under the, canopy we
have Leaves And i'm not talking leaves like you have
in one with tolls or In. Milwaukee i'm talking piles
and piles, leaps and of Course i'm blowing out my
water feature every. Day, well NOW i find you guys
did put this On facebook that there's a mesh kit
(17:45):
that can go over that relatively, inexpensive not a lot of.
Money so you know you put this mesh over.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
It, yeah it's a pond.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
Net it's very very.
Speaker 4 (17:54):
Cool, yeah and people use that for their polysis, also
you can use it for your. Pond definitely helps keep
a lot of the leaves, out, sticks other type of,
debris makes it easier for a spring clean, out keeps
the pumps from clogging as, much because that's the thing
when you get ponds with ponds and, poluses you, know
(18:14):
you get leaves a dam up and everything and restricts
the flow to the, pump and that can cause right,
right that's where a lot of your maintenance that comes
in is now in the fall time when the leave.
Speaker 3 (18:24):
Drop but you can mitigate that for spring by using
one of these, nets WHICH i just the REASON i
bring it up is not so much about the. Nets
but there's so many things that you can learn from,
aquatica like if you come to their their seminars or
if you talk to the guys, there there's so many
different things that you can do to mitigate the maintenance
which is already minimal for what you're. GETTING i, Mean
(18:47):
dean always, says what does he, say like maybe an
hour a week or. Something it's not it's not an
hour a. Week the only THING i spend any time
on is blowing the, leaves and now THAT i got the,
NET i won't be dealing with that in, spring right you?
Speaker 4 (18:57):
Know, Right, yeah it's LIKE i said, that the most
maintenance is this time of year with the. Leaves making
sure all that everything's free flowing for the for the
pump makes it. Easier and then if you get any
leaves that damn up or anything that you don't want
to lose any of the. Water so but, yeah it's relatively.
Easy even if with ponds if you have, fish you,
(19:18):
know if you stay on as schedule and put in
the treatments at the right, time that will definitely.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
Help.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
Yeah, well and you can learn all that when you
have a feature. Done, WELL i guess even if you
have a, feature you can still learn it From AQUATIC
i can come in there and.
Speaker 4 (19:31):
Right, yeah we have three seminars throughout the, season, spring,
summer and, fall and we you, know go through.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
Everything.
Speaker 3 (19:38):
Yeah one of the other things that we should talk
about is that you, GUYS i think you're the only
ones left that service other people's ponds. Too.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
Right, yeah, yeah we get that quite.
Speaker 4 (19:50):
Often you, know they've had either a feature they built years,
ago or had a a landscaper build a feature and
they just need help with, cleaning or they have developed
a leak over time because it. Happens you, know it's
uh with settling and freeze and. Thaw you know that'll. Happen,
Chipmunk yeah, Exactly, yeah the darn chipmunks and. Nice but,
(20:15):
yeah that's something we can definitely help you. With just
give us a. Call if we didn't build, it that's.
Fine we can definitely help you. Us do you in
the right direction and help.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
YOU i who.
Speaker 3 (20:26):
Can and the other THING i want to bring up
IS i BECAUSE i Know dean and the crew so.
Well over the, Years i'm always watching the pond. Business,
Right i've Seen i'm counting in my, Head i've seen
four different companies that were doing ponds that are no
longer in. Business you guys have been around for twenty three.
(20:47):
YEARS i think that makes you the oldest In, wisconsin doesn't. It?
Speaker 2 (20:51):
Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (20:52):
DEFINITELY i mean When dean started this in two. Thousand
dean's the type of guy that when he you, know
he doesn't. Fail so he knew what he was. Doing
he didn't just jump into. It he knew what he
was getting into and he developed something. Great i've been
blessed to be a part of it for the for
the long. Haul LIKE i, SAID i love. It my
(21:14):
wife works in the corporate and the corporate offices and
she works from, home and just hearing what she has
to go, Through i'm just, like, oh, man WELL i
got to call. THAT a lady HAD lg, today you,
know it Was it's it's just a great thing What
dean has. Done it's it's it's, awesome it's it's, fun it's.
(21:34):
Enjoyable you get to work out. Doors the, Clients our
clients are, awesome and you know that the people are
so passionate with their ponds and water features and they
take care of. Them and then what's happening in a
lot now is people are, moving you, know either into you,
know they're getting older and moving on or moving out of.
State and then you get a whole new group of
(21:56):
new homeowners that are so excited and they call you
about their water feature and they're, like, hey what DO
i need to? Do can you guys come out and
we come out and give consults and everything on what
we need to, do or if they move into a
pond and they're, LIKE i just don't like the way this.
Looks you, know they give us a, call and you,
know we're accepting calls right now for. Spring we're booking
up for. Springs so now is the time to. Call
(22:17):
if you've moved into a home or are thinking about
a water, feature now is the time.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
To give us a.
Speaker 4 (22:20):
CALL i know it's getting, colder but we can come,
out set up a, meeting and we do free bids and,
estimates so we can definitely help.
Speaker 3 (22:27):
You you, know this isn't like a swimming pool where
you lose fifty percent of your. Audience if you're going
to sell your property like you brought, up this is
something Like i'm looking at because it's fresh in my
Head matt's. PLACE i am very curious to see how
much value that added to the. Property because anybody that
comes there isn't going to say this is a water.
(22:48):
Feature they're going to, Go, wow how unique In brookfield
that the water's coming right out of the. GROUND i
would bet that if you didn't tell people it's a
water feature and it's running when you get, there they wouldn't, know,
right they Wouldn't and, yeah, yeah it's. Definitely uh It's
it's what's fun Is i'll get calls of people in
the Spring they're, like we bought the house in the
(23:09):
winter and it was covered in, snow and now that
everything sought, out we see that there's this awesome water feature.
Speaker 4 (23:15):
There it's like it was like a surprise to. Us
they told us it was a pond, there but we
didn't know it was this. Cool so it's cool to
see those people's excitement and uh, yeah it's it's very
rewarding in that sense because then you get a whole
new group of whole new audience group of people that
are in love with their.
Speaker 3 (23:32):
Ponds one of the things THAT i love is the
way you guys design. Stuff so if we look at
if you if you go out To, wales AND i would,
say on an, afternoon even if you're out, There La
duke's Ice cream is there for the kids pop over.
To there's a nice little coffee shop In whales to,
mamas what a great. Place it's not the Corporate starbucks.
