Speaker 1 (00:00):
Craig Way alongside the producer Cameron Parker. Glad to have
you alongside. As we mentioned, if you want to text
the program, do so text to word texas followed by
your question or comment to eight one five three zero
standard messaging and data rates band play. Just to finish
up with what I was saying when in response to
Cbe's texts he said they needed to come back to
beat Kansas. Absolutely that fourth and eighteen play CB. I'm
(00:22):
in complete agreement with you on that because I've been
on record for some time as saying, and I will
say it again and again and again, everything that happened
in two thousand and five, the National Championship, the Great Run,
the unbeaten run, the Big twelve Championship, the win over USC,
(00:43):
the Rose Bowl, the National Championship.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
I'm not saying unequivocably. The answer is no. I'm just
saying the odds would be against all of those things
that happened in five happening the way that they did
had they not converted fourth in eighteen at Kansas the
year before. Because here's the sliding door moment. They're down
(01:09):
twenty three to thirteen with about three and a half
minutes to go at Kansas, Vin Sjung leads him back
to get a touchdown at twenty three twenty.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
They got to get a stop. They get a stop.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
There was an offensive pass interference call that Mark Mangino
vehemently criticized the officiating about after the game and said
stuff about we know what this is all about, like
there was a conspiracy for Texas. He got a ten
thousand dollars fine and apologize for the comments afterwards. But
when Texas got the ball back, they still had to
convert their inside a minute to go fourth and eighteen,
(01:42):
and if they had not converted that and Vince did
it what seemed to be three strides. Really he just
kind of glided for eighteen yards, but he did have
to step out of the arms of the Big Twelve
Conference defensive player of the year, Kansas linebacker Nick had
to step.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Out of a tack when he did, but he just
kind of easily cruised.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Then then he hit Tony Jeffrey along the sidelines for
a first down. Then of course he hits the game
when he touchdown passed to Jeffrey and in Texas wins
the game without that win, which doesn't happen. If they
don't convert fourth and eighteen, they don't go to the
Rose Bowl. They go, I think to the Alamo Bil
(02:25):
they we're going to go And by not going to
the Rose Bowl, by going to the Alamo Bowl, they
probably don't start the next season at number two in
the country. The magic of the Rose Bowl and what
Vince did and you know them asking him, you know
(02:46):
this is where the National Championship game will be next year.
Give any of the yes, sir, we'll be back that deal.
I don't know that it happens if they don't convert
fourth and eighteen, because if they don't convert fourth and eighteen,
they lose the game.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
They didn't enough timeouts left to stop the cloff. Kansas
would have run out the.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
Clock and then they don't go to the Rose Bowl
to beat Michigan have the dramatic inning and it set
the stage for next year. So in answer to what
CB was talking about, yes, that was the ups and
downs in that Kansas game alone on that cold day.
And what was also brought up. Will Matthews brought this
(03:26):
up when we were speaking to Luncheon last week. Kansas
basketball had a game a Saturday Day game at Allen Fieldhouse,
and for most of the contest, Like a lot of
Kansas football games back then, and really until just a
couple of years ago, very few people came out to
Kansas games. But because the Kansas was up ten points
(03:49):
in the fourth quarter, word trickled amongst the students over
to Allen Field House that hey, they might upset Texas.
A whole bunch of students that migrated down to Memorial
Stadium there and it got real loud all of a sudden,
they're late in the contest. Will was telling that story,
and he was on the field playing in that game.
And Texas found a way to win that game, and
(04:11):
then they went on from there, and you know, they
had lost the twelve nothing game to Oklahoma that year
that it looked like they were on the verge of.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Being able to get out of that and couldn't do it.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
And then but then got to go to the Rose
Bowl and won that contest, while Oklahoma, which won the
Big twelve, went to the Orange Bowl and got beat
by USC fifty five to nineteen, and USC won the
national championship that year, and of course they were the
favorite again when Texas beat them in that Rose Bowl
(04:45):
the next year. But I don't know that any of
that happens or happens the way that it does had
they not converted.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
Fourth in eighteen. It's just the thought about that, and.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
I would imagine that when we're up in Michigan, we'll
talk about a lot of things that happened in that
four season that culminated in that win over the Michigan Wolverines.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
We'll have Will Matthews.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
I'm talking about that, you know obviously in our coverage,
our coverage here on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone.

Game Day with Cameron Parker and Mike Hardball Hard and
Mark Henry So.
Speaker 2 (05:25):

Speaker 2 (05:59):

Speaker 3 (06:00):
We get to visit with you, Craig and Roger Wallace
live from the booth, which is now. I think my
favorite part of the show is a new segment this season.
We started it last week of Eople Boulevard. I was
worried it wasn't going to work out, but I thought
it went well and get to hear one of my
favorite parts to get to hear you describe the broadcast
booth from the Big House, because it will be your
first time there.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
Yeah, I've seen pictures of it and I'm pretty excited
about because it's supposedly in a pretty good spot in
a position. So we'll see, we'll describe that. So anyway,
that coverage begins at eight a m. Saturday morning. All right,
up next, one of the guys will be in that
booth with me, Roger Wallace, we'll join us.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
Next. We have a little preview of.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
They're a high school football telecast tonight and of the
other things that are happening this weekend. We'll do that
up next here on sports Radio AM thirteen under the
zone of the iHeartRadio app.
