Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to one Day, oh no one more day before kickoff.
In fact, kickoff for the Texas Longhorns on the Colorado
State Rams will be in twenty four and a half hours.
It's just right after two thirty tomorrow afternoon. We welcome

(00:20):
you to the program here on sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred of Zono. My name is Craig wi Ido. Thank
you for joining us. And if Friday is indeed Friday
for you, meaning you're not having to worry about working
tomorrow or Sunday or maybe even also the holiday, the
Labor Day holiday on Monday, good for you, Good on you.
Glad to hear that if you are working throughout the course,

(00:40):
let me get and some of us are working during
this weekend. I love my job that I am doing,
performing a duty I am working this week and for
those of you who are working during the weekend.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
I hope it goes well for you as well.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
The producer of this program will be working throughout the
course of the weekend as well.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
He's Cameron D. Parker.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
The deed on the birth certificate's Tens Dallas as in
the name of his favorite pro football team and his
middle name, and it's a team that he will not
It says he will not be watching during the course
of the season unless they reached the NFC Championship. But
the D stands today. Would you not say camp for

(01:22):
D Day? Because high school football began somewhat last night
and then there's games tonight. You have Leander Flugerville and
there's games going on, so it's D Day time for football.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Correct.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
That's right, baby. We finally have made it to game.
They almost have made it the Texas Football game day
course week zero. Last week, Craig, we had some great
college football last night. High school football got back in
action the Taco Shack. I think they're still scoring touchdowns
as we speak. And finally we get to return to
DKR TMS tomorrow. It's been a long eight months. We

(01:57):
saw Texas and the Sugar Bowl, so so glad to
be back. I know you're excited. And this is your
twenty four is the voice of Longhorns.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
Wow, twenty four years. That's awesome, Greg.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
It's yeah, time does fly that tomorrow will begin my
twenty fourth season.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
Behind the mic is the play by play voice. Long
it's actually.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
Twenty three football and then as it flips to basketball,
ball it becomes the twenty fourth because I actually moved
into the play by play role after one football and
Bill Shoning left following the two thousand and one football
season to start his play by play Adventure's voice of
the San Antonio Spurs. In fact, he'll be starting his

(02:36):
twenty four season as the voice of the Spurs when
we get into November. It is, however, my thirty fourth
season in the Booth, going back to nineteen ninety two.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
And also.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
It will be my thirty eighth season on the long
Horn Radio Network from Larfield. So yeah, lots of check
marks off the list there, but it's a lot of
fun looking forward to another football season with the long Horn.
Speaking of Longhorns coming up in a few minutes, we'll
bring you and we did this throughout the course of
last year and we'll continue to do this. An excerpt

(03:11):
from last night's airing of Longhorn Weekly with Coach Sart
from out of Pluckers the West Campus location in Austin,
and we're out there every Wednesday.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
If you want to come.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
Out for the show recording, we're certainly happy to have
you do that and join us out there for that.
That's on Wednesdays is when we record it on Wednesday
evenings from six o'clock until seven o'clock, and then it
airs here on the Zone on Thursdays normally at seven o'clock.

(03:46):
Yesterday it aired right after we left air at five
o'clock because we had Round Rock Express Baseball. So that'll
be the case when there's an Express game early on
in the football season, is the Express head down the
home street of their season in the month of September.
We have only two days remaining in the month of
August today and tomorrow. August really did fly by. Of course,

(04:07):
I say that, you know, ask any of the Longhorn
football players have it flew by? They're the ones who
had to be out there in the heat, practicing and
trying to make themselves into a better football team. And
we'll see how it is as they take the field
tomorrow afternoon.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
It's against Colorado State.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
But as I was saying, what we do during the
course of the season as part of Longhorn Weekly with
CoA Sark And we have a great time with the show.
We talked about a lot of things. In addition to
Longhorn Football, we have special guests. We had Alex okafor
there with us, and it was great to visit with Alex.
He'll be going into the long Corn Hall of Honor

(04:50):
this fall, and so we do that, and then we
always have one segment of the show where we discussed
the opponent, and that is usually pretty late in the show,
and that was the case again and we will do
it again. And we had our segment with discussion about

(05:15):
the Colorado State Rams and we re air that one
segment of it so you can get a little bit
more insight into the opponent. And so we'll do that
coming up in a few minutes. We'll have that we
have Inconceivable on a Friday. And those two things are

(05:37):
inextricably linked, are they not, Cam Parker Inconceivable and Friday,
because the two of them add up to one big thing.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
Craig, you may have traveled up north to Dallas, but
we are going to travel down south to the more
flasted of the lower forty eight states for a Friday Inconceivable.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
That's true. You heard Cameron mentioned me coming up to Dallas.
I am up in the Dallas Fort Worth area. This
being an opening weekend of high school football in Texas.
Of course, you know call the state championship games for
Ballet Sports Southwest and also host high School Scoreboard live
Friday nights at ten thirty with Greg Tepper, the managing

(06:19):
editor of Dave Campbell Texas Football Magazine, and Aaron Hartigan,
the three of us bringing that program during.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
The course of the football season.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
The other thing that Bally's does is as the UIL
State Championship Football game rights holder. Bally's is also allowed
by the UIL to air live over the year on
linear television a Friday night season opener, the first Friday

(06:51):
night of the season. They call it Texas Football Days.
And you know the UIL rule regularly. They adjusted the
rule during the pandemic to allow broadcasts and telecast to
be streamed, and they also allowed live telecasts during the

(07:11):
pandemic because folks, a lot of folks you know, weren't
able to go to games. Then when the pandemic passed,
they allowed the streaming part to remain. So there are
many of you who I know are used to watching
Lake Travis or Westlake or Vandergrift or or you know,
different different schools around the area play a football game

(07:35):
and be able to watch a one or two camera
stream that's what Cameron is doing tonight with the Leander
Flugerville game for Texan Live and Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine.
Cam will be calling that Leander Flugerville game, and it's
a streaming telecast. And the UIL allows streaming telecasts, they
do not allow Friday night over the year linear teleg

(08:00):
That's the vote of the superintendents all across the state
of Texas.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
That's the rule they.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
Want, and it goes back to I think an old
school train of thought of wanting to protect their home markets,
if you will, and hopefully and hoping that they can
get folks, you know, to come out and see their
local high schools rather than just sit at home and
watch a game from another part of the state. The

(08:26):
only exception to that rule in the regular season, the
only exception of the rule is tonight, and the exception
only play applies to Bally Sports Southwest because they're the
rights holder of the state championship game. So there's a
game on Friday night of Opening Night at Bally Sports
Southwest televisors, and I call that game. And they've been

(08:48):
doing this, I think for the past eight years. I
think I started doing this in. This will be the
eighth one. I think twenty seventeen is the first one
we did, which was Lake Travis and Hovers Judson, and
it's been a big hit with a lot of fans.
They like having the one game there during the regular season.

(09:10):
You can televise live on Thursdays. Roger Wallace and Keith
Morland called the Taco Shack Bowl last night on the
CW fifty four last night, a long, wild and crazy
game that Anderson won. Westlake kind of picked itself up
by the bootstraps in the second half and rolled away

(09:31):
from prosper to win thirty five to fourteen.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
That was on KPVO on KPVO.

Speaker 1 (09:36):
So there are games on Thursday night that are allotted
and on Saturdays. It's Fridays during the regular season that
the UIL does not permit live over the air telecast,
but you can watch streaming telecast of that. And again
the one exception is tonight for Ballet's Sports Southwest the
state championship game rights holder. So the game that I'm

(10:00):
calling tonight is love Joy High that's at a Lucas
just east the plane. Now it's a five eight Division
two school against Lubbock Cooper. Both are really good programs.
The added emphasis on this game.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
The brand new.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
Head football coach of the love Joy Leopards is none
other than Todd Dodge, who has come out of retirement
two years retired from being one of the most successful
coaches of all time seven state championships, the only coach
in UIL state championship history to have two three peats
at two different programs, South Lake Carolin then Westlake. Todd

(10:36):
took two years off. Now he's back and this will
be his first game back tonight as a love Joy
will be in action against Lubbock Cooper, a perennial power
coming out from the South Plains. And that's a seven
thirty kickoff. It's on ballet Sports Southwest plus because the
Rangers are on Bally Sports Southwest. So anyway, that's why
I'm up here in the metroplex. But we do have

(10:59):
our regular entries, and like I said, we'll bring you
a segment from Longhorn Weekly with coach Sark. That's up next.
We do have Inconceivable Also, we're going to hear from
Longhorn players. We'll hear from running back Jaydan Blue and
linebacker Anthony Hill today on the program, and we'll hear

(11:22):
some basketball conversation from Rodney Terry, long worn men's coach,
who had a media availability. In the four o'clock hour,
we visit with Gene Watson from the Chicago White Sox
front office to talk about the baseball penn of races.
Now is the calendar turns to September, we get ready
to talk about those wildcard races as well as for

(11:43):
the division race, and we'll visit with Gino about all that.
So we got a lot on tap this afternoon. If
you want to text the program, you text the word
Texas follow by your question or comment to eight one
five three zero. Again the word Texas followed by your
question or comment to eight one three zero. Standard messaging
and data rates may apply. And we have our talkback feature.

(12:05):
If you like to participate in the talkback you can
do that as well. All you have to do is
access us via the iHeartRadio app. It's free to download
if you haven't already downloaded it, but you can do that,
and then you pull up AM thirteen under the zone
a little red button with a white microphone in it.
You push that and you can leave us a message
up to thirty seconds with your thoughts or your questions

(12:26):
as well.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
So we got all that for you.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
Coming up next, we'll hear from coach Sark when we
continue on this Friday on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred,
The Zone, and the iHeartRadio app.
