Speaker 1 (00:04):
It's the Craig Way Show with the voice of the
Texas Longhorns and Hall of Vaine broadcaster Craig Way.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Okay, now we shift back to the NFL off of
college football, and we'll talk talk some National Football League action.
Texan's playing the night against the Jets. I get the
feeling you're probably not expecting an awful lot to come

(00:36):
out of this deal. Is that the thing?

Speaker 1 (00:39):
Maybe? You know, we'll see how this Houston Texans offense looks,
you know, no Nico Collins, no Stefon Diggs. I think
a lot of people kind of expect the Jets. I mean,
this is a must win game for Aaron Rodgers, no Brechton,
this entire staff. So the Jets injuries or the Texans
injuries pulling up? Maybe the Jets could. I mean, the

(01:00):
line is New York is favorite, Craig. They are a
two and six football team playing the Houston Texans, who
are six and two, and New York is favored by
two and a half points. So I think I guess
the betting public just thinks that this is, okay, a
must win game for New York. Injuries piling up for Houston,
maybe the Jets get the win, but I'm not sure.

(01:20):
I mean, the Jets are awful, Craig. I think a
lot of people just assume that with Aaron Rodgers and
the Fonte Adams and Brece Hall and Garrick Wilson, they'll
figure it out. But they lost the New England Patriots.
The New England Patriots. They lost to the New England Patriots.
So they're gonna beat the Houston Texans.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
I don't know, We'll see. I think the Texans are
a really good football team. Maybe this is just one
of those weird losses on a short week, but I
just I can't fathom the Jets being favored in this
game against the Houston Texans.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Here's something else I want to get to get your
thoughts on the trade deadlines coming up in the NFL.
So the deadline for deals, you know, in previous years
came on the Tuesday following the eighth game of the
year after Week eight, but following the offseason vote, the
league pushed back the deadline by one week, so it

(02:10):
gave teams an extra game to evaluate their roster and
their playoff chances before deciding whether or not they wanted
to make a move. Now here's a weird deal. The
Bill Barnwell, who covers the NFL for ESPN, wrote a
piece and it's kind of broken down in the categories

(02:32):
one teams that clearly should add before the deadline. And
in that group he has forty nine Ers, Bears, Bills, Chargers, Chiefs, Commanders, Eagles, Lions, Packers, Ravens, Steelers, Texans, Vikings,
anybody left in the NFL, all right, So he lists
all those. Then he has teams that clearly should subtract

(02:54):
before the deadline, Browns, Giants, Jaguars, Panthers, Patriots, Raiders, Titans.
So he has that and then he goes with and
then he breaks down in the teams of big questions.
Here's where I'm going with you on this deal. If
you watch any of the Sports Center or NFL related programming,

(03:19):
if you watch any of those things and they're talking
about this about the player that just about all of
them are saying hey or asking the question, Hey, well
the Cowboys make a deal. Should the Cowboys make a
deal or the Cowboys definitely going to make a deal.
Here's the deal maybe should be Have you seen or
heard anything anything that would lead you to believe that

(03:43):
would suggest that Jerry Jones and his staff are going
to make a trade. No, just what I don't get.
It's kind of like I always get about this that
in the past, if the logoards were struggling in a
given sport didn't matter the sport, football, basketball, baseball, whatever
it was, and there might be newspaper writers or columnists

(04:08):
or fan site writers or whatever who say, well, coach
so and so should be fired. And then you would say, well,
it isn't going to happen, because the athletic director said
there wasn't going to be a fire. And then the
response was, well they should, and they're injecting opinion into deal.
It's a similar thing here with the Cowboys. Well, everything

(04:31):
I'm reading and hearing says that there are those from
the national media and others who suggest who suggest that
the that the Cowboys should make a trade, or that
they're going to make a trade. But if the response is,
like you and I just talking about, they are they

(04:52):
even hinting thinking about making a trade, I think the
answer is no, which would then prompt the response from
the reporters and analyst, well they should. Whether they should
or not, there's a lot of that should stuff when
they when the Cowboys are referenced, isn't there and Jerry
Jones is reference stuff that just goes undone, unattended, unaddressed,

(05:13):
so to speak. And I think this is another one
of those deals here.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
I think it was last week, maybe the week when
he had his when he threatened the fire Shannon Arjay.
But in that same interview on one O five through
the Fan and they talked about you're gonna add anybody,
and he kind of said, to show me, show me
where I can add someone. Show me, like, where can
I get these players? And of course the Chiefs make
a big trade, and the Ravens make a trade, and

(05:37):
then Viking to make a trade. So there, Jerry, you
can trade for other people that that is allowed. But
off of Bill Barrel's article in his verdict is the
Cowboys to subtract the deadline, but will likely add I
don't even know what they should do, correct, I really
don't know. And I think Jerry will, Jerry and Stephen
Jones will hold pat because they're thinking is, by the way,

(05:59):
the Cowboys defense is awful. It's a lot worse than
Dak Prescott. What they're thinking is Okay, they're gonna get
to Ron Blatt back soon, Michaeh Parsons, de Marcus Lawrence.
Maybe that will fix things. I don't think so. If
they aren't gonna make moves, it needs to be on
the defensive side of the ball. Offense, I don't even
know where to start with adding a running back. I mean,

(06:20):
the offensive line needs so much help right tackle has
been awful with Terrence Steele, and then the receivers aren't
great either. But that's a lot of needs for this team,
and I'm not sure if there's anyone out there that
will fix this team from being a three and four
maybe playoff team to a contender. I don't think there's

(06:41):
moves out there, right, and there's moves that you can
make to solely build this team back up, But there's
so much work that needs to be done Craig that
I kind of understand maybe just tearing it down, but
Jerry Jones obviously says he's all in now. I don't
think it matters, and I don't think I would trade
Michael Parsons or DeMarcus Lawrence and do a full rebuild,

(07:02):
because you still have enough talent to win. I think
some coaching and some free agency acquisitions could help fix
this team. But I don't know if I see a
single specific move that would help this team because there's
so many issues at receiver, at running back, at offensive line,
defensive line, linebacker, secondary, I don't I don't know where

(07:23):
you start. So there's a lot of work to be
done for this Cowboys.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
Yeah, I think you make a great point when you're
talking about most of the general conventional wisdom, whatever you
want to call it, is that the Cowboys need to
make deals if they're if they're really going to be
a bona fide contender. Goes back to what we were
talking about yesterday when Jerry was on on that radio

(07:49):
program on Tuesday when he said, we have the people
here to get it done, and I believe that we
can turn this around and have this big story, but
finish and all this sort of stuff, and that sound
bite was played on one of the NFL programs, I
believe on ESPN. It was on one of the networks,
and the analysts were laughing, literally laughing. It's like, no,

(08:14):
they don't, they don't have the pieces. So then it's
going to come down to the difference of opinion. Do
you believe you have the pieces in place to make
a run. Jerry says they do, which makes you think
then that he's not going to make a deal. The
national analysts and pundits say they don't and that's why

(08:36):
Jerry should make a deal. But it doesn't sound like
that's in the offing, if only because Jerry believes they've
got the pieces in place to turn this around, especially
once you get a couple of guys healthy in back.
You mentioned Ron Bland. Once they get guys back and healthy,
he believes they got the pieces together to make a run.
You don't.

Speaker 1 (08:55):
I think he does. I think that's his thinking. Offensively,
there's no injuries. Offense just sucks. That's it. The offense
just sucks. So if there's gonna be any moves, it
might be offensively. But what are you gonna do? Trade
for Mike Williams and he's not gonna solve anything you're
gonna trade for. I don't know what running back is
out there. The offensive line and run blocking has been pathetic, awful.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
They just don't have anybody that can really run the ball.
I think they've got enough receiving talent to try to
make them a contender, but without proper Yeah, run talent.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
What differences with Brooks and Tolbert and for Andy, They're
not gonna add anybody because they believe that they can
develop those receivers, and you know that might just be
the Cowboys be naive.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
Yeah, all right, we'll be back. We've got a few
final comments. We'll get to those. A reminder coming up
at six o'clock tonight will be Long Worn Weekly, a
special basketball preview edition with Long Wornon's head coach Rodney
Terry Ramber. The Long Wort's open the season on Monday
night in Las Vegas against Ohio State and the Hall
of Fame Classic there. So we'll have a few final

(10:00):
notes coming up. That's six o'clock tonight at Pluckers the
West Campus location at twenty two twenty two Rio Grand
and heard right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen under
the Zone.
