Speaker 1 (00:00):
And we're glad to have a brand new week of

(00:01):
the program with you here on sports Radio AM thirteen
under the Zone. My name is Craig Way. I do
thank you very much for joining us. Glad to have
you with us for hour number one of our three
hour meeting every day Monday through Friday from two pm
to five pm. I say we because we includes the
producer of this program. He's Cameron D.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Parker.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
The D on the birth certificate stands for Dallas as
in his prey favorite pro football team that he has
pledged not to watch this season. So we didn't watch
them yesterday because they didn't play yesterday.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
That made it very easy.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
We were able to just settle back in and watch some
NFL and not worry about having to change the channel
if the Cowboys were on.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
I actually got to be out of F one last,
didn't you. But my dad did have the red zone
pulled up at F one, so I got to enjoy that. Actually,
he said to me on Sunday, goes, so, who are
the Cowboys losing to today? And I was like, don't worry, Dad,
They're off this week bye week. Now did they win
the bye week?

Speaker 2 (00:59):
We don't know. Who knows remains to be seen.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
I guess we'll find out when they go to the
go to play the forty nine Ers next.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
Yeah, must win game for both teams, it feels like,
especially after I went out in the San Francisco against
Kansas City yesterday.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Yeah. Absolutely so.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
Your dad sounds equally disgusted with the team that he
named you after.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
I know, is is any Cowboys fan not disgusted to
what's happening to this franchise right now? Hey, Dak Prescott
got married during the bye week. Good good for him,
find some happiness hopefully.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
Yeah, speaking of happiness or lack thereof, obviously there's a
relative absence of that coming out of the game Saturday
night at dk R Texas Memorial Stadium with the Long
Horns falling to the Georgia Bulldogs thirty to fifteen. We
have a lot to get into about that, obviously. This

(01:50):
is a Long Horns Monday edition of the program, and
what Longhorns.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Monday includes is, but is not limited to, is.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
The broadcast the live broadcast of Sea of Steve Sarkisian's
weekly news conference at eleven thirty on Monday mornings. We
brought it to you live this morning here on the
Zone at eleven thirty this morning, we begin our coverage
at eleven am. My cardbaal Harge joins me and we
begin our coverage at eleven and of course Sark goes

(02:23):
to the mic at eleven thirty, and then we bring
you the news conference from eleven thirty to noon. Now,
we realize not everybody can hear it then as it
airs live. That's why what we do with this program
is to bring it back to you in sound bite form.
You'll hear every answer to every question that Sarks.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
So you just won't hear it in its long form
where let's.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
Go over here, Cedric blah blah blah and the question.
We'll set it up for you and tell you what
the question is, and then you'll hear everyone of Sarks
answers to these questions. So we'll have that, and I'll
look back at the loss to Georgia, and I'll look
ahead to getting ready for the Vanderbilt Commodores, so that's
coming up. We'll have responses from Sark in all three
hours of the program this afternoon. Also this hour of Inconceivable,

(03:07):
we take a look at some of the bizarre and
weird nature of stories. It's a strange headlines today, some
headlines that by themselves would stand the test of time.
Like for example, there used to be a service called
the lower Case I think it was, and it was

(03:28):
and it was actual newspaper headlines that the headline writer
probably wishes that he or she had not written later
after it appeared in print. For example, there used to
be a really good marathon runner for years. His name
was Craig Virgin. That was that was his name, and
the headline when he had committed to run in a
certain race was Virgin to provide weekend excitement. So there

(03:54):
was there was some of that, but we do have it.
It was a couple of bizarre headl so we'll have
we'll have that.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
I thought you were going with the bizarre headlines from
the Athletic talking about start creating controvert quarterback controversy.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Would this it now?

Speaker 1 (04:10):
No?

Speaker 3 (04:10):
Did the Athletic really really have got an email first
thing this morning? And there was a few other people
also on social media saying the same thingsh I think
just trying to get likes her people.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
Yeah, right, there were people that were that were talking
about that on during the game on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
I can't believe he's doing that. What's he doing? It's
hoped it up.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
The man has control of his quarterback room and his
football team, his locker room as well. So we're going
to hear Sark talk about that coming up in the
press conference.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
But we do have inconceivable.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
We also will take a look at the weekend around
the National Football League. Anything just other than the way
that the Chiefs dispatched the forty nine ers, was there
anything that really just struck you?

Speaker 3 (04:57):
It might be just recency buy, but what Pittsburgh did
to the Jets last night, Yeah, I thought DeVante Adam
was going to save the offense. Craig by the way,
I think they're on the same exact pace in terms
of points scored through a week eight as they were
last season with Sack Wilson as their quarterback. And I
think they've only cracked twenty points once this season. That's

(05:22):
what Aaron Rodgers and Breese Hall and Garrett Wilson and
now DeVante Adams. So we'll see a team that I
thought was going to be a playoff team now two
and five.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
I had somebody text me and said there was a
I haven't seen the highlight and for a very good
reason that which Hawk's plained in a minute, that Garrett
Wilson had a ball bounce off of his what was
his figh?

Speaker 3 (05:48):
Oh, I didn't see that and got picked off. Didn't
see that as one of that a ricochet that got
picked off. So it was that would sum up the
Jets season. Yeah, that's what That's what somebody said. It
looked like that, and that was. In fact, I'll say
exactly what it was.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
It was.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
I just want to want to make sure I've got
this right because it was a good description of it.
Garrett Wilson just had the worst play I've ever seen
from him. The ball hit his chest and got picked
even worse. Yeah, So firing Robert Solid did not change anything, it.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
Appears apparently not, at least not yet anyway. So there's that.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
We now have a World Series matchup. Major League Baseball
is down to two teams and it's two of the
most tory franchises in history. It's the most off and
played World Series in history. For the twelfth time in
baseball history, the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles

(06:53):
Dodgers are going to meet in the World Series. They
have met eleven prior times the Yankees and one on
eight of the eleven. However, I should point out this
sounds almost like an Ou fan when you mentioned the
Texas overall record, and they go well in the last
ten years, in the last twenty when they do that.
The Yankees have the overall edge eight series wins to

(07:15):
three against the Dodgers, but they've split the last four
going back to nineteen siightes and and a good demarcation
is since the team moved from Brooklyn to Los Angeles
in nineteen fifty eight, they've split the last four, the
Dodgers winning in sixty three, the Yankees in seventy seven
to seventy eight, the Dodgers winning the last time they
met nineteen eighty one. That's the last time they've met,

(07:37):
so anyway, Gene Watson, our resident baseball insider, who did
call this matchup after we allowed him to reset, because
remember originally he said it was going to be the
Padres and Guardians, and then after the Padres got knocked
out by the Dodgers, allowed him waffle space and told
him he could re sit. So he said, okay, I'm

(07:58):
going with the Dodgers and I said, to your sticking
with the Guardians, and he said, no, I'm not.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
I'm I'm switching to the Yankees.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
So he ended up calling that correctly, that the Yankees
would beat the Guardians and that the Dodgers would beat
the Mets.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
And so it's Los Angeles and New York.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
But we'll get his thoughts on this upcoming match of
the World Series. Does not begin until Friday, and it
will at Dodgers Stadium. I think I speak for all
of Americas, sing Correig. We were all rooting for the
Dodgers in this World Series. Really, Yeah, I don't think
anyone likes the Yankees. I know a lot of people
who hate the Dodgers, but but might hate the Yankees
more even more.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
Yeah, So to some people, you know, that's the old
thing about saying where they they when they wish to say,
who do you?

Speaker 2 (08:37):
Who? Do you want to win? What I want to
happen is a meteor to strike either stadium.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
That's that's that's what That's what some people say. I
I got a lot of Facebook react last night because
I was in Los Angeles last night. Lynda and I
flew out yesterday morning. We landed The first thing we did,
we went to Randy's Donuts to get a donut. You know,

(09:02):
the giant horns of great donuts. So we went to
Randy's Donut to get a donort, and then we were
doing some driving around looking. When it came lunchtime, we
went to Mel's Drive In. This trip was not all
about eating and food, but we did go to Mel's
Drive in. If you if you, if Mel's Drive In
sounds familiar, It's an iconic drive in restaurant. It opened

(09:23):
in nineteen forty seven, best known for being the drive
in in American Graffiti, the movie American Graffiti. And there's
big wall mural photos of George Lucas in there because
he directed it, and a young George Lucas before his
hair turned gray, and there's there's big pictures.

Speaker 2 (09:41):
Anyway, I put it.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
I put it on the Facebook poach that I had there,
so we ate there, had lunch there. But then, in
a move that really surprised a lot of folks, folks
thought that I had gone to La to see Game
six of Dodgers Mets, or at the very least would
have been out there to see my favorite pro football team,
the Rams play the Raiders now, and I've explained this

(10:03):
before on the air when folks have asked me why
do you like those two teams, it's for completely unrelated reasons,
has nothing to do with Los Angeles. In fact, normally
I'm not a big fan of LA but Dodgers. When
I was a kid, little kid, my dad was a
Yankees fan. He went to the nineteen fifty two and
fifty three World Series when he was stationed the Army
in New York, and used to tell me stories about

(10:25):
the Yankees and Dodgers meeting in the World Series. My
favorite color at the time was like blue, like a
Royal blue or Dodger blue. First package of baseball cards
I opened up, Bill Russell, the Dodger shortstop, was there,
and when I wrote off to the Major League teams,
the Dodgers were the ones to answer. I got this
big packet full of stuff in an autograph photo from
Willie Davis.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
So I was stuck on that similar thing with the Rams.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
Around the same time, when I was eight nine years old,
we would write letters off to the NFL teams. I'd
try to get autograph photos, and I wrote to three
or four teams.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
The only one who responded to the Rams.

Speaker 1 (10:57):
I got this big eight by ten black and white
glossy of Roman Gabriel, the quarterback and has had a
champ never quits Roman Gabel. It's probably somebody from the
you know, promotion staff that signed it. But that's okay.
So I was hooked on the Rams ever since. So
it had really had nothing to do with the city
of Los Angeles. But I was out in LA and
I didn't see either the Rams against the Raiders, although

(11:20):
we listened to most of it driving around in the car.
You talk about burnt toast versus stale bread. I mean,
you talk about two teams that are just floundering. The
Dodger the Rams found a way to win the game.
They did twenty to fifteen, but it was it was
it was kind of an ugly game. They're two and
four and the Raiders two and five, I think, and

(11:41):
the Dodgers. The reason I didn't go, yeah, I would
have had to find a way to get tickets and
all that kind of stuff. But more importantly, I had
planned a trip a few months ago as a surprise
for my wife, Linda, And this was before the SEC
teach schedule.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
Came out, Before we knew it was going to go
go down.

Speaker 1 (12:04):
One of her all time musical heroes in her life
has been Joni Mitchell, the great Canadian songstress Joni Mitchell,
and Joni Mitchell's eighty one now does very few shows.
She'd had some real serious health issues back a few
months ago, but she had these two shows at the

(12:24):
Hollywood Bowl one Saturday, one Sunday, and I thought, that's
going to work.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
We're gonna do it.

Speaker 1 (12:31):
So I ended up getting tickets, and of course we
see the SEC schedule and it was going to be
after the Georgia game, but we flew out early yesterday morning.
We had a fabulous time at the show. I'll tell
you more about the show a little bit later on.
I've had some people ask me for a concert review.
I'll tell you a little bit more about it later on.
And then we raced back to Lax. We were listening
to the Dodger postgame show after they won the National

(12:53):
League Championship Series, and I did have it during intermission.
It was in the ninth inning, so we watched the
ninth inning home and then we flew home on a
red eye, landed about eight twenty this morning, got the
car straight over to campus and there we are jumping
in with the Monday news conference. So anyway, I'll tell
you more about the concert a little bit later on,
but up next we're going to hear from Longhorn's head coach,

(13:15):
Steve Sarkisian, And we continue here on sports Radio AM
thirteen under the Zone and the iHeartRadio app.
