Speaker 1 (00:02):
So I am Andrew Simon fillingate for Craig Way the
last day the Philly in He is in. That's right,
six man from San Antonio, the all spot to match
Craig webs to be joining the program here in about
seventeen minutes, three seventeen Synchronize your watches to the kid's.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
He will be joining the program.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
Give us a update on Texas men's basketball from the
Big Apple as they take on Saint Joseph's tonight eight
thirty tip off right here on sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred zone. He will also give us an idea about
Texas and Kentucky. We've been talking about it all week.
It's the final regular season home game for the Texas Longhorns,
as we hope. It's one of those questions, now, do

(00:45):
you want the rest or, do you want the buye
with the rest or? Do you want to just play
a home playoff game? And we'll get back to that
here in a moment. Other news in news, going on,
other news, enough views. Daniel Jones cut from the New
York Giants. It does not come as a surprise to
many that he will not be the starting quarterback for

(01:07):
the Giants going up the rest of the season. It
is a surprise that they decided to cut him. He
has one of the best jobs available right now. I
don't think that he gets another opportunity to be about
twelve million dollars that they'd have to pay Daniel Jones
if you want him on your roster. I don't think
there's a lot of teams in the NFL who are
jonesing for some Daniel Jones.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
That's a good one. I just think that's a that's
a solid one.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
I was trying to get our board up Ronaldo to
give me anything and nothing, no laugh or anything.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
That's fine.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
So I don't think that anybody's gonna be going after
Daniel Jones in the offseason. I don't imagine that his
career goes very far from here. He asked to be cut,
he asked to be let go released from the Giants
after he got moved to fourth string. And I do
think that the news yesterday that he was playing did

(02:01):
not help the outward view of Daniel Jones. A lot
of people are clowning him for his goodbye speech. He
gave a speech seven games left in the season, but
he gave a speech about how you know, hey, I
gave all my heart and stuff to the Giants organization.
I really wanted to win some games here. I don't
think he goes down as the worst quarterback in the

(02:21):
history of a New York Giants football. However, he probably
goes down as one of the most disappointing contracts in
NFL history, if you can believe that. So let's get
into it, because, like I said, the Texas Longhorns have
a chance this weekend to put the hay in the barn,
to get the job done. To win this weekend means

(02:42):
you own your destiny when you take on Texas A
and M next week. If A and M gets a
job done against Auburn, you have two teams who potentially
the winner of that game will get a bye if
you win the SEC championship. So if your Texas got
to win two more games. But it was very interesting
in conversation happened earlier today on the Pat McAfee show.
They are on location for Indiana Ohio State. Pat McAfee

(03:06):
has legendary head coach Nick saban On and they were
debating a topic that we've been debating here for a while,
and that is would you rather have the buy or
the home field advantage.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
Would you rather have a buy or would you rather
have home field advantage? I mean, now, you would rather
have home field advantage?

Speaker 2 (03:25):
I think right, I would.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
Yes, I'd definitely rather have home field advantage and play
a game at home than having to buy, because you
have time at that point in the season to recover anyway.
So is it an advantage to have more weeks off
and try to get into the game, or play more
in a rhythm and go ahead and play and have
a home field game?

Speaker 1 (03:43):
So I love Nick Saban's idea here where he's saying, like, hey,
you know, I'd rather play another game than have the rest.
I have to imagine that this is coming from a
spot of.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
Nick Saban. He's a judge genius. He's the best college
football coach. Maybe.

Speaker 1 (04:06):
Ever, what do you mean you'd rather play the extra
game in any other sport? I'd understand, basketball, baseball, I'd understand. Okay, Hey,
I want to keep the guys in the rhythm. I
want to keep playing this extra game. But every single
snap there's a collision. It does not matter if it
is a small collision in the offensive defensive line, hitting

(04:28):
heads against each other padding up, or if it's a
big collision, so wide receiver going across the middle of
the field getting lit up by a safety. Every single
snap in the NFL, there is a collision. Every single
snap in college football, there's a collision. Why are you
wanting more of those? Julian Edelman said it best. Former

(04:49):
NFL A Pro Bowl receiver Super Bowl MVP said it best.
Every single Sunday I came off the field that was
in multiple car crashes. That's how my body else. Why
would you want a whole game of that? And it's
very easy I think for Nick Saban, who's a head
football coach, and for Pat McAfee, who is a punter,

(05:11):
to say, oh, yeah, I know, we'd love to play
another game.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
We'd love to have No.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
I think the only people who want that home playoff
game are, of course teams like Boise State. You'd want
to have a home playoff game. I think teams that
have awful weather, the Big Ten schools like Penn State,
Ohio State, Indiana.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
Who you have an idea?

Speaker 1 (05:33):
Did you see the game Thursday night in Cleveland, Ohio
for the Browns game. It's kind of nasty already in
the Midwest. I think those teams, Yeah, a home playoff game,
That's not the end of the world for us, but
the rest of us, Like, if I'm an SEC school,
I want a home playoff game. All I'm asking for
at that point is just to get one of my
guys hurt. And you go through the list of teams

(05:54):
who potentially could have a home playoff game. So currently
the teams with a bye would be Oregon, Texas, Miami,
and Boise State teams that would be hosting playoff games potentially. Again,
this is how the it is right now in the
bracket Ohio State, Penn State out or Notre Dame and Indiana.

(06:16):
That's not to say that things could change. That's not
to say that Georgia or Ohio or Old Miss or
Alabama could end up hosting one of these playoff games.
But why would I want to play that extra game
if I was any of these teams, And especially when
you again, I look at a team like Old Miss
with Jackson Dart who has had to be helped off
the field in that Georgia game. He was able to

(06:38):
come back and play well after that injury, But why
do I want to risk my quarterback, my five star guy,
the guy who if the game goes one where it's
on his shoulders, Why would I ever want to put
him in a position where he could get hurt worse?

Speaker 2 (06:57):
To me, it doesn't make any sense. Now.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
I understand Nick Saban saying, Hey, that's time of the season.
There's gonna be a week, two weeks maybe in between
some of these games. You're gonna have a couple of
weeks after the end of the championship games, before these
first games are even played, to get healthy. I totally
understand that, But are we seriously asking for more? Are
we asking for more football on these kids' bodies? I

(07:21):
had that problem when we expanded the playoffs, that we
were gonna add another game to the schedule.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
I just think about.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
It and the long term, in the long run, I
had a really smart football guy tell me one time,
for running backs in particular, that there is a shelf
life for how many hits of running back can take.
That you don't really know what the the old.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
How many hits you can take.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
You don't know that number per se, but you know
that there is a finite amount of hits that a
running back can take.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
I feel that way about every position. What are we doing?

Speaker 1 (07:54):
It doesn't seem like a very smart take from one
Nick Saban. And the other thing is when you go
through the sear they go through the college football slate
this weekend, there's one game in particular that matters more
than the rest of them. Yes, teams like Texas and
Texas A and M have to do a good job
against games like Kentucky and do job do well against

(08:18):
teams like Aliburn. But I look at the number one
game this week, and it's that stupid noon kickoff on
Fox that they're ruining college football with. It's number five Indiana,
number two Ohio State. It's a ten to zero Indiana team,
a nine to one Ohio State team. The winner of
that game. It's almost like a loser leaves town game

(08:41):
between these two teams. And it stinks that it's kind
of this late in the season for both those guys,
because you're not gonna be able to recover if you
lose this game. But if Ohio State loses this game,
they might fall to eleven or twelve in the college
football playoffs. But at the same time, as a fan,
I love every minute of it all right, So when
we come back. Craigway joins us from Brooklyn. Brooklyn, we

(09:04):
go hard. Texas basketball went hard yesterday a big win
against Syracuse. They're gonna try to put two in a
row tonight as a take on Saint Joseph's. That game
eight thirty pm. Tip right here on sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred Zone. Craig Wait joins us next. Andrews im
