Chainsaw began his radio career while attending Fresno State when friends talked him into doing an on-air shift at the campus radio station. In 1986, he was recruited by KGB-FM and in 1990 become part of the DSC Show. During his tenure with DSC, Chainsaw was known as "The Dean of American Sportscasters," and for creating a variety of zany characters that interacted and had their own features during the DSC Show.
