Speaker 1 (00:12):
You know, I'm seeing all these celebrities Jimmy Ballen.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Wait then like TAXI, Well no, it's.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
Just like I see them in their knicks fans. I'm like,
you know what I mean, Like, I get it.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
They're actors.
Speaker 4 (00:27):
You know. I was wondering where all the fans. There
are a few, There's not a lot. There's a few
famous Spurs fans. I wondered that, where the hell y'all
a Samuel Jackson Slanning go where you all at?
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Yeah, they they haven't come out for a while. It's fine,
it's fine. We don't need them, but I like them.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
You know what.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
This is one of my favorite parts of the fanatics
that I just get listening to be entertained. It's time
now for Shane's Sounds of Saturday.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
The only thing you gotta do.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
I know, that's it. That's it, now, take it away.
Speaker 4 (00:59):
Shit, I wouldn't sounded, but I just enjoy you doing
that every Saturday here, well Sunday. Yeah, okay, So first
sound we are going to start with earlier in the
week here here in San Antonio and with one of
Dylan's favorite people.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
So the inside of the NBA people were previewing.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
Game one and the rest of them, the rest of
the guys, Ernie, Chuck, Kenny, Sorry, Ernie Shack and Kenny
surprised Chuck with a surprise guest.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
And it's sort of a blast from the past.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
You know, Ortis Jones. It's the mayor of San Antonio.
That's right, and.
Speaker 5 (01:28):
Sorry to spring that on you, but we just felt
well before you were mayor for background, you needed his history.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
What you're dealing with here with Chuck in a long
time ago.
Speaker 5 (01:38):
You can't teach courage, you can't teach class.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
And mister Barkley reminds us of that.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
That's right, Mayor.
Speaker 6 (01:49):
I I'm so glad to be back in your beautiful city.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
Hey, everybody, I took about walk today. Everybody was fantastic.
They know I'm just joking around.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
So here's the thing with this, Dylan, is that definitely
feels like both Gina and Chuck are trying to earn
brownie points. Gina is trying to earn brownie points. I
showed up to the Spurs Spurs games, you know, dressing
the gear.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
Yeah, thanks, Mayor, But that's not all her.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
A lot of it's been And then the other fact
of it is that, you know, Chuck, ever since he
medt those comments about San Antonio women those two years ago, right.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Oh, it was longer than that.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
It was it was like, is at least fives enough memory? Right?
So he said that long ago we talked about you know,
there's some big womens in San Antonio, and uh, San
Antonio didn't really take a liking to that, which which
I appreciate that someone confronted with the bray least, you know,
I know, I know you don't. I know You're not
the biggest you know, Tis Jones fans. I've been critical
some of our policies. I can just appreciate that when
(02:41):
someone calls someone out, they do.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
It to their face. I can appreciate that.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
Now.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
I got more on her later, all right, tru Coming.
Speaker 4 (02:47):
Up next though, we're gonna take our our our series
to the city of Chicago.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
Chicago.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
So have you ever heard of Laurence Holmes or Matt
speak Matt Spiegel.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
I've heard Spiegel.
Speaker 4 (02:59):
Okay, Yeah, So these guys hosts a show up in
Chicago on one of four to three the score and
for one of the segments, and this is unfortunately for
a lot of places, and you know this doing working
in radio. There's dead time if there's not a lot
of stuff going on, so you have to fill some
of these segments. And these guys were doing a list
of the most obnoxious sports fan bases, and Laurens Holmes
(03:19):
believes one of the most obnoxious fan bases is in
this series right now.
Speaker 6 (03:23):
It's like a listen, I think that Knicks fans are
the most obnoxious fans in American sports.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
Wow, I don't believe that's true. Your nomination, sir.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
The Saint Louis Cardinals.
Speaker 6 (03:36):
Oh, the Saint Louis Cardinals actually have some jewelry of
recent vintage. Yeah, that backs some of their piety. But
Knicks fans, y'all ain't won nothing since the Ford adminstration.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
Well that's true, by the way.
Speaker 5 (03:56):
Heading into twenty twenty one, the Knicks had more losses
than any team in this century century.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
Good and then the over for four more.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
It's not gonna happen.
Speaker 6 (04:08):
And James Dolan, I don't know if you should be
out here saying it's not going to happen.
Speaker 5 (04:14):
I could very well happen. Game four could be them
trying to complete the sweep. That's what it could be.
Speaker 6 (04:21):
I cannot wait for this to be played on w
FA and then they lose in six Okay.
Speaker 4 (04:26):
So one, I feel like obnoxious fan bases is definitely
like an easy fill, uh for a radio show, especially
there's nothing else talk about.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
Number two.
Speaker 4 (04:36):
I've been saying for months that Knicks fans are some
of the worst fans just because it's not even just
like the New York aspect. It's the fact that like
they actually rob and steal and beat the crap out of.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
You, and the police don't do anything about it.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
Yeah, and they banned their watch parties outside Madison's that
was because of like political affiliations. But no, no, no,
before now they're terrible fan base.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (04:57):
A lot of the worst fan bases, let's be honest,
are up in the Northeast. Of course, Philly fans and
like New York and Boston and like pretty much everyone
else around the country is like, oh, I don't like
these fans because our rivals, but they can also agree,
Like it's what is it about the Northeast?
Speaker 2 (05:09):
It makes people just so like that.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
You know, as I was listening to that right there,
which was a great little sound bite that you got,
it makes me think you know, everybody's like, Oh, the
Knicks are gonna sweep, the Knicks are gonna do this.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
What if this is the New York Knicks that drop
the next four straight?
Speaker 3 (05:27):
Yeah, what if that's the storyline next week the Spurs
get hot and just get rid of them in six.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
They would never that would be amazing. They could never
live that down there.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
No, but you know what with that franchise, why not
them be the same little disappointment that they can be,
you know, because the Knicks have always been a disappointing team.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
Yeah, so you never know.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
I'm just saying there, we're gonna go to another city,
another radio station. We're gonna go to Cleveland, our friend
ties old stopping grounds, I e. Two point three, the
fan Dale Lance riiselind there was actually Anali Railhos. He's
also a Brown's insider, So he's one of those guys.
If he tweets something or says something, you can probably
just take my face value or something going on, right,
They were talking about that Durham Brown's.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
OTA's new head coach, Todd Monkin.
Speaker 4 (06:14):
Has not really selled into the quarterback competition, and it's
becoming uncomfortably frustrating.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
So take a listen to what they had to say.
Speaker 7 (06:21):
The fact that he's bouncing back and forth is that
Shador is it to Shawn, back to Chador. Now, it's DeShawn.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
Now we're back to Shador again.
Speaker 7 (06:29):
That I think that's a byproduct of the inconsistency. And
that's what's got the red flags for me, is neither
one of these guys is consistent enough to take the
reins of this that we're still we're gonna be going
and I don't know if he can make a decision
like he wants to after that mini camp, you might go,
I think there's a good chance we're gonna go in
training camp with a quarterback competition. I don't think we're
(06:51):
going in the camp with number one guy.
Speaker 8 (06:53):
Well, today, when I look at just a little differently,
and here's why, I when I see the offensively, the
inconsistency in the ups and are absolutely right there. But
what I see is I see an off I think
you're gonna be able to measure.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
This a little better, right because they have addressed the
offensive line.
Speaker 8 (07:07):
Now I'm not saying the offensive line is better, they
haven't fixed the offensive.
Speaker 4 (07:11):
Dere Ruder cuts them off right, there, and they kind
of go off in a little bit of a tangent.
So I cut it off there for a reason to
say that if you're at this point with a quarterback
you can't whose contract you can't get rid of, and
a quarterback who's on a fifth year, who's a fifth
year rookie like one of the second year, and you
can't find a number one guy and your other quarterback
like they couldn't. He couldn't even convince Jared Versus to
(07:31):
buy his number eight. They just gave him number eight, Dylan.
The Browns are back to being what we've known them
to be.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
The Browns brown, which is unfortunate.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
Because I don't have any beef with the Browns, no
at all. It's just like the thing is, like they
had their guy in Baker Mayfield. They they messed that
up royally big time, terribly.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
I mean even Bakers know having some issues up in Tampa,
but the contract dispute, Oh yeah, the Browns know how
to screw things up.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
Let's be real. I mean that that's just you.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
You can rely on them to do that and you,
I don't know what, maybe it's the water in Cleveland
that just makes them terrible, but the water's.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
A little eerie.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
Yeah, the dad jumped there, but no, I mean, the
Browns are gonna brown. And you know, granted, you know,
Tie is still a Browns fan at the end of
the day, which I'm like, Man, it's got to be rough.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
It's rough to be a Cleveland fan.
Speaker 4 (08:25):
Well, the only fan base around that has it more
rough is like the baseball equivalent of the Knicks, baseball
equivalent of.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
The Browns, and that's the New York Mets, the New York.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
Mets, the Metropolitans.
Speaker 4 (08:35):
And so one of the most beloved players is one
Keith Hernandez.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
I despise him, well so does his other fan. Apparently.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
So, Keith Hernandez was on his way to San Diego
for the Mets Padre series and he was having to
sit he had a head a fly commercial. He was
sitting next to a fan who apparently it was decked
out in Mets gear, did not recognized keithan Nanniz.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
And this is Keith's account of story.
Speaker 9 (09:03):
So I flew, I flew in Delta from JFK to
San Diego. I made the mistake. I was having a
window seat and I was in aisle one, and I
had a guy sitting in B next to me, my
right in the aisle seat, and he has a full
met regalia, and he didn't recognize who I was. I
was into my iPad and the whole thing, the whole flight,
(09:24):
the whole flight did not know who I was. We
go into we're descending, and the stewards, a flight attendant
discovers that I have my laptop. I had it hit
in my newspapers, and he goes.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
You got to put that up on her.
Speaker 9 (09:37):
I had to get up and sidle over his legs
and then I put my When I sidled back into
my seat, I bent my leg and I went down
almost in his lap, and I just grabbed.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
His television in front of him, and.
Speaker 9 (09:52):
It basically it saved me from falling into lapping. And
he still didn't know who I was. He didn't recognize that. No,
I make a long story short that there was a
couple behind that were met fans and knew who I was.
So I turned to the wife when we landed and
I said, would you mind asking your husband to get
my bag for me up on top? And they said absolutely,
(10:15):
And so the guy in my seat went and got
it and then he looked at me and he went, Okay.
Speaker 4 (10:23):
I have had a similar story to where, like I
told you before, like I had a chance to meet
Emma Smith. I was going to like an autograph signing
my all time favorite cowboy. I didn't realize that I
was getting in line because I had his rookie card,
the Top's rookie card, yeah, and had a little plastic
case on it. I didn't realize you had to like
buy memorabilia when you got there and have him sign
that stuff. So I got out a line and I'm
(10:44):
walking away, and as I'm walking away, all of a sudden,
like I get sworn up in this crowd of people,
kind of like you do at the mall, because this
was in the gallery in Houston. Yeah, And as I'm walking,
all of a sudden, it gets closer and close, like
what the hell is going on? Off is like mall
traffic or whatever. And to my right is Emma Smith
and I and I didn't say anything. I was the
only thing I remember thinking is like, oh my god,
(11:04):
you're a lot shorter in person than I ever saw
you on the field. No, you see me, He's like
right here to me. He's like a good like four
inches shorter than me. I mean, it was it was
still cool. It's a shrill moment, but like, how do
you like if you're like that much of a fan,
you're willing to fly and where the gear pretty much
let people know you're going for the series, and you
don't recognize one of the franchise's all time greatest players.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
You don't know? I mean maybe he did and he
just didn't want to say anything.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
I mean, would you not recognize Adrian Peterson if you
were on a flight with.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
Rwood and I've I've recognized folks before, and you know,
it's like you just kind of do a head nod
or you kind of you know, it's kind of like
when I ran into Trevor Knight at the Spurs Western
Conference Finals game.
Speaker 1 (11:43):
You know it was that's a little different talk about
like one of the franchises.
Speaker 3 (11:46):
All right, but you also like when you run into
people and if you're an old and it just depends
because maybe he did know who he was, he just
didn't want to say anything, and maybe he's telling his friends, Hey,
guess who I was sitting next to the whole flight?
Speaker 2 (12:00):
Okay, I guess you know what?
Speaker 4 (12:01):
I mean, I guess so anyway, that was my This
was this week's edition of Sounds of Saturday.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
