“He Saw It Before It Happened”

What if you knew how the Kentucky Derby would unfold… down to the final charge? 🤯 That’s exactly what listeners witnessed in this unforgettable episode of The JB and Sandy Show, where Sandy’s jaw‑dropping Derby prediction turns into one of the most talked‑about moments in recent show history.

🎶 Festival Fever & Star Power
The crew recaps an electric weekend at the iHeart Country Festival, sharing behind‑the‑scenes moments, surprise artist interactions, and crowd energy that proves why Austin remains a music destination. From Sandy being told to “take your sunglasses off so I can look you in the eyes” 😎 to shout‑outs from the stage, the stories are laugh‑out‑loud real.

🏙️ Are You Actually from Austin?
JB and Sandy break down the subtle (and hilarious) ways you can spot a newcomer — starting with how you pronounce local street and town names. Friendly teasing, local pride, and classic Austin banter collide as they say it best: “Try to get in where you fit in… and don’t change things too much.”

🤣 Relatable Relationship Truths
The show dives into the things guys think deserve medals — and why women consider them “basic effort.” From opening car doors to planning dates, Sandy drops the truth bomb: “You think this is princess treatment… women are like, dude, this is just basic stuff.” 💐

🐎 The Prediction That Stunned Everyone
The highlight? Sandy’s eerie, play‑by‑play Kentucky Derby prediction that unfolds exactly as described. From the horse’s strategy to the final push, it’s the kind of moment that leaves the room silent… then erupting. Even Sandy admits, “It’s like I saw the race before it happened.”

👀 Memorable Moments You’ll Be Quoting All Week:
  • “If you like someone, set them free. If they come back, it means nobody else liked them.” 😂

  • “It’s like he saw the race ahead of time.”

  • “Women think it’s basic — guys think it’s over the top.”

Speaker 1 (00:04):
Okay, good morning, Meg. Welcome to the JB and Sandy Show.
Wherever you guys are, and however you're listening, whether it's
on a smart speaker, which by the way, you can
activate by saying play ninety eight one KVET on iHeartRadio,
or if you're listening on the iHeartRadio app. Thanks for
being with us. My name is Sandy, This is JB. Big,

(00:26):
Good morning, and Tricia is here. Two good morning, eight
for four three nine, oh cavett. If you want to
be a part of the show, we like to start out.
But you guys, feel like you're catching up a little
bit from Saturday from the Iart Country Festival.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Yeah, that's that took a lot out of me, but
it was worth it.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
That's the longest I've ever attended a music festival. It
was a lot of news.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
Well, it's not like the kind of festival where you're
marching across the field from.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
Stage to stage. You get to know, you get to
set up shop and chill.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
Right, and then it's just one act after another after another.
We'll get into more of that a little bit later on,
but we like to start out to share. So that's
the first thing that made her laugh today.

Speaker 4 (01:03):
If you like someone, set them free. If they come back,
it means nobody else liked them, set them free again.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
I like that. I might set you free.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
You wouldn't.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
It's the JB and Sandy Show at ninety eight one
caveat ninety eight one cavet your all time country favorites.
It's the JB and Sandy Show, And along with Tricia
and you know I I'm cool with the new people
that have moved to Austin. I just like giving them
a hard time, you know what I mean. I just
like grass and I'm a little bit just.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
But I also think try to get in where you
fit in right away.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
And don't try to change things too much. Yes, right, you.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
Came here for a reason. Let's not screw it up.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
And learn the local language.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
Yes, it's easy to spot people who are not from
here by the way they pronounce certain things. I'll give
you some examples. You can do the road or the
town burn it, Yeah it's not Burnett's not burnout. It's
burn it, burn it, burnie, barn it manor same thing
manor right Maynor.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Butda Butda gets people a lot.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
Yeah, people say Buddha. Yeah, it's Beda.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
And this one's pretty funny because Guadaloup is what we
say here.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
I know it should be pronounced Guadaloupe.

Speaker 4 (02:17):
Yeah, it is not not here.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
Even by Hispanics in Austin. They say Guadaloup when they're
referring to the street.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
But if they're talking about our lady of Guadalupe, it's
a whole different thing.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
Right now, This one's really tricky because there are two
ways to say it.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
But manchaq.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
Oh yeah, So if people say manchaka, if they're talking
about the street.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
They're wrong. It's manchaq, right, because they're talking about the town,
they're correct.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
It's very confused.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
So you know, they recently changed the signs to spell
m E N. I refuse, I protest. I will always
say manshaq.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
Manchaq for the street, chaka manchaka when you're talking about town.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Right. So those are just a few of the ways
that you can tell someone's new to town. Be nice
to him, just correct them. It's not Burnett, it's Burnett Marnott.
It's a Jami and Sandy Show. At ninety eight one
k bat ninety eight one k bat, Good morning, It's
the JV and Sandy Show. Coming off the fun At
Saturday at the iHeart Country Festival presented by Capital One,

(03:23):
another great show. We got to introduce Chase Matthew. He
actually kind of came up and said hi to us.
I was not expecting that.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
Yeah, he was very cordial.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
Right.

Speaker 3 (03:31):
Yeah, he went out he you know, went out of
his way to say hi to the radio guys and
him in particular, both in and out you know, the
free show and then on stage, Yeah, ripping guitar stuff, right,
I mean that is like, it's like, this sounds like
alternative rock.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
Yeah. And Tricia was like, he's kind of a little
peep polish with his glasses and everything.

Speaker 4 (03:52):
With his glasses, but it worked. I think I had
a little crush on him and didn't Sandy. He say,
you had your sunglasses on when you met him. Yeah,
And He's like, I'm gonna see my song to you,
but I need you to take your sunglasses off so
I can look into.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
Your eyes because you keep I go, dude, your song's
been stuck in my in my head for three weeks
and it goes almost sing it to you. Take your
sunglasses off. Here's one of the highlights. Here is that
little clip from Luke Bryan Saturday at the Moody Center, Austin, Texas.

(04:25):
You hear that guitar riff in the background, do you
recognize it? So Stevie Ray Von guitar riff that guy
was doing. That's kind of kind of a cool little
tribute to Stevie Ray. Here's some chabboozi.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
Austin Taggs's Heart Country Festival.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
This is my first IHA country festival, and I just
I can't wait to keep coming back. I'm in one
of the greatest cities in the world.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Austin, Texas on country. I'll fill a little.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
CHABBOOZI didn't know what was going to be a.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
Party surprise the what a production?

Speaker 1 (05:11):
Oh, I know right, it's big, big time.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
Yeah. That many artists rotating in and out.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
For our old listeners from the other station. It sure
makes that beach party look stupid. Leased to get together
at Carlos and Charlie soon. Yeah, have a bunch of
no names.

Speaker 4 (05:26):
That beach party was fun though, don't yeah, don'tkno get
it was a great, great time.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
But it was a huge production in the right show
and it was Luke Bryan was great. The whole always
Gretchen Wilson was great.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
What surprised me was when we were at the daytime
fest outside and usked who was from Austin, people cheer
who was from out of town. Shockingly more people were
from at least during the day.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
Yeah, it's a destination for people, so a good time
and I would be willing to bet that we do
it again next year.

Speaker 4 (05:57):
I bet you we do.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
I think so. Ninety eight one kvetch. Shout out to Bethany,
who I met Saturday at the iHeart Country Festival. Lives
in Leander, listens on the iHeartRadio app every single day,
and I reminded her to set us as a preset there.
You'll see the preset button. Just tap us, tap it
and make us your number one preset. I heard Country
Festival a lot of fun in Parker McCollum with a

(06:18):
local shout out. This was pretty cool. Is where he
started back in the day with the guys.

Speaker 5 (06:23):
How many y'all are actually from Austin and live in Austin.
Well there, you're gonna go to Saxon plub on Southhamore.
That's for me and these boys started about twenty fourteen.
This is a little bit bigger than the Saxon plub
right here, so we're glad to be here.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
I was looking for Parker after the show to tell
him that it had been clean since two thousand.

Speaker 3 (06:46):
It boy, you think they're overnight success. It takes a grind.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
It does, really does. Great show. It's the JB and
Sandy Show, along with Tricia ninety eight one kvet your
all time country favorites. Somebody in Leander's to find out
how many friends they got.

Speaker 4 (07:02):
You can get a lot of new ones too.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
It's the JB and Sandy Show. At ninety eight one
cavet thanks for hanging with us. I'm Sandy. This is JB.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
Hey, good morning.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
Trisia is here as well. You win the lotto, you
find a lot of friends you didn't have.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
A ticket was sold in Leander on this Saturday drawing
matched all five numbers plus the power ball to win
part of the twenty million dollar jackpot. One other winner
hit all the numbers in Georgia.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
So they split it the twenty million.

Speaker 4 (07:28):
They're gonna split it.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Yeah, so they won ten million.

Speaker 4 (07:31):
They won ten million dollars in Landry Leandry guys just
right down the street, like I as somebody who has
a secondary lotto business. This is very encouraging for me
for business. I mean it's getting closer to AIA. It's
all around out. Yeah, I mean it's gonna happen anytime.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
Well, if you could predict the lotto like I did
the Kentucky Derby.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
Oh my gosh, I was shaking my head. So Derby
went off and it's like, dang it, Sandy does it again.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
Yeah, I predicted the we'll hear it later on this show. Wow,
from Friday Show. We're going to replay my prediction from Friday,
and when you hear it, you're gonna go it's like
I saw the race before it happened.

Speaker 4 (08:16):
Right, It's something some kind of sorcery happened.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
It's pretty wild. You got to if you hear one
thing today, you got to stick around here. It's what
he said on Friday.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
Right, it's from Friday Show, my prediction, and when you
listen back to it, you're like, it's like I said,
it's like I saw the race ahead of time. And
we're going to replay it from Friday at about seven
point fifty this morning. It's a JB and Sandy Show,
ninety eight one Cavett. It's pretty safe to say the
guys want more credit than they get, but they really
don't deserve It's the JB and Sandy Show at ninety

(08:46):
eight one. Cavet. Hope you guys had a great weekend.
My name is Sandy, this is JB. Hell and Tricia's
here as well.

Speaker 4 (08:51):
Good morning.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
So guys, listen up because this may hurt a little bit.
But some of the things that you do for the
woman in your life that you think really owing over
the top, given her the princess treatment, women are mostly
like these are expected, right, pretty basic, basically the things
you should do without even being requested. Yeah, right, And

(09:13):
so they're not impressive you think they are. Like opening
the car door, Yeah, that's a standard. Yeah. Now, I
don't do it every time.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
I do it most of the time.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
I do it.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
Most of the time.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
I do it when other people can see me doing
That's exactly right.

Speaker 4 (09:27):
That's when you do it.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
In front of the restaurant. Yeah, yeah, and I do.
I make sure I do it more for my for
my sixteen year old daughter, so she learns how boys
are supposed to be her, Uh.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
Planning dates. I'm bad about that. My wife tends to
be the social calendar person.

Speaker 1 (09:46):
She tells you where to be in what time.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
I'd be fine with just being at home constantly, so
that I struggle with that one.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
Getting gas that's.

Speaker 4 (09:54):
Your wheelhouse, JB, that's your thing.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
I took my wife, I take her cars on Sunday,
her car and setting it washed and guess it up
for the week.

Speaker 1 (10:01):
And again, guys think this is the princess treatment. Women
are like, dude, this is just basic, basic stuff. Letting
her wear your coat if it's cold. It's not cold
here very often. Then Tricia didn't leave the house if
it is, so I.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
Deal with that very often, right, Yeah. Taking care of
her when she's sick, no, I know, don't funny. I
saw that and I was like, I don't remember the
last time my wife was sick.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
Really, that's good.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
It just doesn't get sick.

Speaker 3 (10:33):
We've been Oh, by the way, we have our twenty
eighth anniversary next month.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (10:37):
Funny. Yeah, yeah, Tricia has constantly got something wrong with that.

Speaker 4 (10:42):
It is not something's wrong. I just keep saying the
updated about every little thing that I feel. I'll be like,
I have a little bit of a headache today, and
he's like okay, and.

Speaker 1 (10:50):
Then and then the journey to figure out why.

Speaker 4 (10:52):
Yeah, I need to know why.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
That's like exhausted, share this burden with me.

Speaker 4 (10:58):
I'm just keeping him updated case something happens and he
needs to know.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
This. Next one's very very old school of base of
things that guys do that they think are over the top,
but it's really just basic. This is old school walking
on the outside of the sidewalk.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
Oh yeah, towards traffic between them and traffic.

Speaker 1 (11:15):
Right that way. The car hits you before it hits them,
slows them down just a little bit.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
I think I do that.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (11:22):
And again these are expected, not as special as we
guys think they are.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
I did this next one yesterday, give her flowers.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
Just for no reason. Yeah, oh wow. Tricia would go,
what are you doing this?

Speaker 4 (11:33):
I'd be like, what do you want? What are you
trying to do?

Speaker 2 (11:36):
Although I lost all my flower points.

Speaker 3 (11:39):
I went and I picked up some groceries, and I
picked up a little bundle of flowers and I set
them on the counter and laid down, took a nap.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
Ah, So I lost all my flower credit. She's like,
would You're not going to put the groceries away?

Speaker 1 (11:52):
Really? Tired. Those are just a few of the things
said that guys do that think are over the top,
but women think are just really, really basic. It's the JB.
Sandy Show in ninety eight one Cavet ninety eight one
Cavet your all time country favorites with Jamie and Sandy
along with Tricia. If you want to be a part
of the show eight four four to three, and I
know Cavett great seeing people a lot of people at
the iHeart Country Festival over the weekend.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
Yeah, that was fine, But if you missed a piece
of the show on Friday, it was Sandy's prediction for
the Kentucky Derby. M hm unbelievable. I mean unbelievable.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
And we're going to replay that prediction here in just
a little bit.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
Your jaw's going to hit the floor. He nailed it.

Speaker 1 (12:30):
Right, Well, replay it straight from Friday. If you listened,
you made money, all right, it's coming up in just
a second. It was kind of funny at the country
at the Daytime Village with the iHeart Country Festival. We're there,
we're hanging out. Our daughter. One of her friends shows up,
they're sixteen, and they come up. They say hi, and
then they do what teenagers do. They just go and
wander around, right, And so they are wandering around, and

(12:52):
then we go over and kind of get into the
shade and I look over. We just happened to land
in the same spot, same area of the the plaza
that the girls were in. And immediately Tricia walks over
to the girls and I lean over to JB and
I'm like, she just won't leave those girls alone. She
just won't let them be teenagers and hang out.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
She's the mom who thinks she's still a teenager.

Speaker 4 (13:17):
You stop it.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
You know what I'm talking about, right?

Speaker 4 (13:19):
Those girls love me. They like to hang out with me.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
Oh, but they there was a reason they walked away
after they said hi.

Speaker 4 (13:27):
Well, I know, but they walked away. They did their thing.
We're standing in the same area and went over to
do a little conversating with them. They call me big tea.
Did you see he's taking pictures together.

Speaker 1 (13:37):
By the way, Tricia finally got some decent photographs of herself.

Speaker 4 (13:40):
I was photogenic on Saturday, JB. You know that doesn't
happen very often. No, I am the most unphotogenic person
on the planet. And every time we take a picture
and look at it. Sandy would go another good one.
I was like, what is happening?

Speaker 2 (13:56):
All right, let me ask you this. Does she do
this often with the girls? Oh yeah, this is not
just a one off.

Speaker 1 (14:02):
No, it's like they're having a sleepover. She's in there
with the pajama's home. So what we're talking about up
next if you missed it Friday, we're going to replay
my prediction of Saturday's Kentucky Derby and you're going to
be amazed at its accuracy. It's next on caveat. I'm
not a I told you so guy, but I am. Today.
It's the JB and Sandy Show at ninety eight one Cavet.

(14:25):
Thanks for being with us.

Speaker 3 (14:26):
Yeah, I lost my mind on Saturday when the Derby
went off, and I was like I went back and
looked at my notes.

Speaker 2 (14:35):
And I was like, Sandy picked that horse. Unbelievable. That's
the one he was talking about.

Speaker 1 (14:41):
Yeah it was, Yeah, it was the one. If you
weren't with us on Friday, I made, as I do
every single year, prediction for the for the Derby, and
this one I had the strongest feeling I've had in
a long time. No, kidding.

Speaker 2 (14:52):
I mean, and you've gotten it right in the past,
but not every year.

Speaker 1 (14:55):
Right, right, Not every year. I No one gets them
right everywhere, right. But this year, not only pick the horse,
but I also told you how the race was gonna
go wild. So here it is. This is from Friday morning.
If you missed it, this was my prediction about the
Kentucky Derby. And if you watched it, I think you'll
see what we're talking about. I'm gonna give you my pick,

(15:16):
and I'm gonna tell you why, and I'm gonna tell
you what I think is gonna happen tomorrow. Okay, my
pick is Golden Tempo. Have you guys even heard anything
about Golden Tempo? I don't.

Speaker 4 (15:28):
I don't think so, all right, Golden.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
Tempo is like twenty three to one shot to win
this race. But there's a lot of stuff that I
like about this horse, and most importantly is his pedigree.
His dad is a two time Horse of the Year,
a Preakness Stakes winner. His dad's name is Curlin. And
this this horse, Curling, is just a monster at classic

(15:52):
distances like in the Kentucky Derby. I mean, he's he
comes from behind and his whole lineage comes from behind.
And that's what this horse, Golden Tempo, is gonna do.
Starting way on the outside of the nineteen, he's not
gonna run out to the front. In fact, he's probably
gonna be in last place, and then some he's gonna
stay back there and stay back there, and then somewhere

(16:15):
in that last turn as they head for home, that
horse is gonna be in last place and have a
bunch of track in front of him and is gonna
shoot like a bullet to the front of the.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
Pack, because that's what it does.

Speaker 1 (16:28):
That's what this horse does and always.

Speaker 2 (16:31):
And what do you like about the jockey?

Speaker 1 (16:33):
I know you patience. This jockey is incredibly patient, and
he's got ice water in his veins. He's not afraid
of anything, and he's not and he doesn't panic. He won't.
I bet you this horse will. In the horse world,
they say, will get up so much that this jockey
doesn't even have to put the whip on him. He

(16:53):
just goes and he's gonna run, I think, on the outside,
and he's gonna catch the run the front of the pack,
and he's gonna win by about a half a length
or so, and probably a time of about two o
two in a quarter is my guest. There you go.
That was from Friday morning and then Saturday. That's what happened.

Speaker 4 (17:13):
Amazing, that's exactly what happened.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
And Tricia is happy because I had five hundred.

Speaker 2 (17:20):
On Saturday. Remember we talked about it on Friday. I
was like, what if I put one hundred bucks in,
I would have won twenty three hundred and I didn't
do it.

Speaker 1 (17:29):
Dude, dude. It's an easy, easy payday.

Speaker 2 (17:33):
So did you see the camera on the trainer?

Speaker 1 (17:35):
Did she was great?

Speaker 2 (17:36):
Free after she won? It was like that was exciting.

Speaker 1 (17:39):
First female trainer ever.

Speaker 4 (17:41):
When you were watching it, were you like, oh my god,
it's happening, Oh my god, it's happening.

Speaker 1 (17:45):
I was watching it going yeah, yep. And then I
was like, you gotta go now, gotta go now, you
gotta go now. And right after the third one that's
when it went. That's when he went and went for
it and went for the win.

Speaker 4 (17:56):
But did you freak out?

Speaker 1 (17:57):
Yeah, absolutely, litely freaked out. So it's a good running
of the Kentucky Derby in a nice payday for old
Uncle Sandy Ball band wins again. It's ninety eight one
