Speaker 1 (00:00):
Local Austin business is expanding. Tricia's got the details. In
just a second, We've got a chance for you to
win tickets to the iHeart Country Festival at nine o'clock
this morning. Be listening, You'll get a keyword. Text that
word into two hundred two hundred and you can win.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
So one of the Austin's most favorite coffee shops, there
are two of them in Austin that are favorites impact
all the time, have decided to step outside of Texas,
which always makes me kind of sad because I kind
of like to keep it to myself. JB. I think
especially you're going to be sad about this. Joe's Coffee
has opened a news store in Nashville. Oh Joe's Coffee
(00:38):
for people listening is the coffee shop that has the
iconic I Love you so Much mural on it in
downtown Austin.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
Now there actually are a few more locations. I didn't
realize there were so many. But you know, I'd rather
spe exporting than importing.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
Yeah, no, that's true. But I feel like, are they massvillions?
Is that what they are? I feel like massvillions won't
go to an Austin homed coffee shop. There's a rivalry
between Nashville and Austin, and if I was from Nashville,
I was like, I'm not going to some Austin coffee shop.
I'm going to a Nashville you know what I'm saying.
And it kind of trut to your point about exporting
(01:16):
our businesses. We felt that way when Whataburger went to Florida. Yes, BUCkies, Bucky's,
when Bucky's expanded, got the world will end if HGB
lee Oh.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
I don't think HB would do that to us. I
think they love us too much. But that's exactly the
way I felt when I read this. They're leaving, You're
supposed to be here.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
Yeah, you're right. It's strange. I can't think of any
other big Austin businesses, you know, retail businesses.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
That have I believe I think Tacoba's Waschi's.
Speaker 4 (01:44):
Tacos did it.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
She's did it? Didn't Torchy start mal Passo though I
don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:50):
I think Torchies is an Austin board business, right JB.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
I thought so. I thought it started in the trailer
on South First.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
I think the owner from El Paso maybe.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
If I'm not who is who is selling his house
by Mountain below Mount Banal for what twenty some million?
Speaker 1 (02:09):
Yeah, get up over twenty million? What's the difference?
Speaker 2 (02:14):
Again? One more time, one more that's thinking about expanding
also to Nashville Terry Black's Barbeque.
Speaker 4 (02:20):
Really, what is going on you guys?
Speaker 1 (02:23):
Wow? Those are great for those businesses. Just don't grow
too fast. Yeah, grow too fast. That is the story
we love. It's the JB and Sandy Show on ninety
eight one k vet. All right, I'll just say it, friends,
I'll just say it. Tricia's got an animal obsession. An
animal obsession, we're going to tell you, and was a
little fantasy. It may come true for her. We'll get
(02:43):
to it in just a second. It's the JB and
Sandy Show. Hello, my name is Sandy. This is JB.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
Hey, good morning, and.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
Tricia is here too.
Speaker 4 (02:50):
Good morning.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
You can call us anytime. Our number is eight four
four three nine. Okay, Vet, And shout out to you
guys listening on the iHeartRadio app, and thanks to those
of you that have left talkbacks to us on the
iHeartRadio app. That's the little microphone. You can tap it
and just like old school leaving a message, you know,
on an answering machine or modern day voicemail, same thing,
but you don't have to call anybody. You just tap
(03:11):
that button. Leave us a message. We would love to
hear from you. Jabi tell our listeners about Tricia's animal
obsession slash fantasy.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
I don't think she's alone on this, but not Yeah,
she and I didn't know this until recently, very very
obsessed and wants to adopt a baby raccoon? What is it?
Is it their little spotted eyes? Is it the way
they use their little tiny hands?
Speaker 2 (03:41):
They're a little freakishly tiny raccoon hands. I desperately want
to find one that it's mama has rejected it, or
it's been washed out of its nest or something, and
then I raise it and bottle feed it and domesticate it.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
Is it? Does them being obsessive compulsive about cleaning have
anything to do with your attraction to them, because it's
very much like you.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
A little bit. But here's the thing, here's what's word
about it.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
I want a baby raccoon, but in a pinch, I'm
going to take a baby squirrel.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
And you know what I mean, right, But so the
fantasy part of it, that might come true, is that
Tricia may actually get to hang out with some raccoon.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
I've been texting with raccoon Jenny. I've named her raccoon Jenny.
She's one of my friends that I now know through
JB who's friends with her. Her name is Jenny and
she has on Instagram a page called yard Toopia Adventures
where on her back porch she has grown raccoons visit
her every evening and she sits and she hand feeds
(04:43):
them and hangs out with them.
Speaker 4 (04:46):
I'm looking at whatever her videos right now.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
Bruno and Marta are there and they're eating some Nolla wafers.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
There's like more than a dozen of them.
Speaker 4 (04:52):
Oh reight, Yeah, there's a ton of them.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
She never knows who's going to show up each night,
but there's she records them coming and eating and she's
sitting amongst the raccoons and they love her, and she
has bowls of food out but then also.
Speaker 4 (05:06):
Bowls of water so they can wash their food.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
She has a Manilla wafer and they scrub up their
little wafer before they eat it.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
She's sitting there, yeah, just you know, just chilling, just
sitting there with them all around her. I can't help
a thing. You never know if they're going to turn.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
That's exactly why I was what I agreed about, like,
they're going to protect her.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
Yes, they're gonna they're gonna turn on me.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
Yeah, then you got a raccoon problem.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Then I got a raccoon problem. Yeah, maybe Ginny knows
how to tell them. Hey, she's cool, she loves raccoons.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
So what's the next move here?
Speaker 2 (05:39):
So she and I have been texting. We're going to
have her on this show, hopefully on Wednesday. She gonna
call in. We're going to talk to her. We're gonna
see what we can do.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
Day tuned, Friends, Tricia's raccoon fantasy could come true this week.
It's the Jab and Sandy Show on Austin's All Time
Country Favorites ninety eight one k bat. Huge water main
break in downtown Austin happened this week morning at about
three o'clock at sixth in red River. That's causing a
few problems, isn't it.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
Oh yeah, it's completely flooded the intersection and it's going
to be closed down till probably noon.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
They say that needs like some major repairs.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
Intersection needed a good wash down anyway.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
Shady That Red River district is just yeah, it could
use a good housing.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
Right, So hey, if that's in your if that's in
your commute, red River, just keep that in mind.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
Stay away, they're saying, stay away.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
Coming up next. Remember Chico, the dog that got stolen,
Yeah got He's stolen from the was it the Humane Society? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (06:40):
Man, a woman just slipped him into her purse.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
Got an update on Chico. Stick around, It's coming up next.
On ninety eight one kvet got an update on Chico.
Chico's the little dog that was stolen from the Humane Society.
Little bitty guy looks like one of your guys, JB.
Looks like dogs.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
That the dog is is like the mix of my
two that if we saw that dog in a shelter,
we would adopt it. And I told you you guys
were like, who would steal a dog from a shelter?
And I was like, my wife would it looks like, yeah,
it's so ugly, it's cute. She she would not be
able to control herself. She would just take it.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
Well, woman, just like Aaron was at the Humane Society
last week and I guess something just overcame her. She
put a little Chico in her bag and took him home.
Then big APB put out on Cheico.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
I think there was some was on video, like criminal video.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
I think there was some sort of alert, an amber alert,
you know, a Chico alert had gone out and everybody
was on the lookout. But apparently guilt is a is
a powerful thing, right, and guilt just washed over this
woman and she knew what she did was not right.
So she took Chico back to the Humane Society with
(07:56):
a note that said I'm sorry.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
I know she had an apology note.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
Oh, let that lady get to give the thirty some
We'll just pay the thirty five dollars and take Chico home, right. Dog.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
I suspected the dog was already claimed. That's why she
stole it like it had a good points, because usually
it's like you don't take it home for two or
three days because they don't want people impulse taking dogs
and they're not really mentally prepared. So that could have been.
That's in my head, that's what happened. The dog was
(08:28):
spoken for and she just couldn't control herself.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
Boy, I saw a lot of dogs at the at
the Kite Festival exults.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
Oh, my gosh, I brought my dog. I brought one
of my dogs, Clyde, same thing I was. There were
as many dogs as humans.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
Yeah, every dogs kite shows and.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
Apparently we're the only people that have a dog that
wouldn't behave or had a dog that would not behave
like those normal dogs the kite fest. Those dogs at
the kite festival act like they go to a kite
festival every day.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
It gets an yes, trying to shut it down. She
would have been barking and letting everybody know. No frivolity
is what Shiny was stood for, no fun, order, no chaos.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
She was a miniature Australian shepherd. She's in charge of
things that's in their blood. Kite festival was fun. As
JB told you last week, go ahead and get your ladder,
throw in the back of your truck. Head to Zilker.
Get you some free kites.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
There was one. I saw one that was expensive already
in the tree and I was there fairly early on Saturday.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
In it, I saw somebody flying I think the most
impossible kite, the box kite. Someone was flying a box kite.
Remember trying to do that as a.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
Kid, isn't that the kite of choice when Coach Brown
called in ye that was his specialty.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
Was the box kite. Did you see the giant astronaut kite?
Speaker 1 (09:51):
No?
Speaker 3 (09:52):
I did not, probably twenty feet tall.
Speaker 4 (09:55):
Damn my gosh.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
That looked like a big moon man, like you know
the MTV moonman.
Speaker 1 (09:59):
That great. It's JB and Sandy ninety eight one k back,
good morning. A crime you haven't heard about, and one
hundred anyone's heard about, probably their lifetime is trendy again
in Williamson County. Will tell you about that in just
a second. Another quick reminder. Three o'clock this morning, there
was a huge water main break at the sixth in
red River. So if that's part of your daily commute, one,
(10:20):
I feel sorry for you, and two you're not going
that way today. You got to find a different way
to do that. So again sixth in red River. A
lot of water all over the place. Williamson County.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
Huh, yep, yep, it's the wild wild West out there.
The Sheriff's offices announced that it's arrested five people in
connection with cattle wrestling.
Speaker 4 (10:41):
Oh deal in cattle wow.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
Cutting fences back in trailers, up snatching the cattle, cattle wrestling.
Speaker 3 (10:50):
Man, they couldn't find a train to rub I mean
old school, and I bet there's some old Texas law
that it's probably very strict pace like hanging. Especially Williams
and Williamson County. They don't mess around, right.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
So that used to be the punishment if you got
caught stealing somebody's cattle.
Speaker 4 (11:11):
Kick was hanging. Now it's a.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
Little bit more modern. If you get caught, you get
charged anywhere between thirty to one hundred and fifty thousand
dollars and it's a third degree felony.
Speaker 4 (11:22):
You're going to the jail house.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
Yeah, you're going in Williamson County. You're going under the jail.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
Oh yeah, they'll never let you out in Williamson County.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
They won't. Travis County, they would even press charges.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
No, they'd be like, you, guys, don't do that. That's
not your cow.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
Right, stealing cows.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
Wow, that's brave. That's brave because that's something that you
would think people would take the law into their own
hands if caught exactly.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
Yeah, I would think a lot of ranchers would be like,
before I called the law, I'm gonna take care of
this myself.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
I'm picturing Yellowstone, you know, like that scene where the
Harley guys were on their property. Like, oh, that's right,
one of the most intense scenes in that whole series.
Like just in a jury, especially in Williamson County, is
not going to blame you for doing whatever you gotta
do to cattle wrestlers.
Speaker 1 (12:10):
No, I mean, do you have any sympath There's no sympathy. No,
there's you know what I mean, you're stealing cows, JB.
You're right, go look for a train to rob anything,
anything but that man. All right, all you cattle wrestlers,
you've been worn.
Speaker 4 (12:27):
You've been warned.
Speaker 1 (12:28):
It's ninety eight one kvet. Good morning. We got an
email from a listener and it's really cool talking about
his dad and we want to share it with you.
May have heard Bob Pickett talking about it on Friday
during his pit hit at four forty every afternoon on Cavett.
It's really cool. And by the way, Bob Pickett just
killing it on Instagram and on Facebook at the George
(12:50):
Straight Show. All kinds of great videos, great stories, his
history with George Straight. I mean, it's really cool. If
you haven't seen it, check us out at KVET FM
on Instagram and ninety eight point one KVET on Facebook.
I mean he's got like one of his videos I
think had over four hundred thousand views, so pretty cool.
Bob's been crushing it there.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
It's follow going back to the eighties, his relationship with
George Strait.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
Yeah, goes way back. Here's the note that we received again.
You may have heard Bob talking about it, but it's
a I think it's worth sharing again. We got it.
This is from his son, and his son did not
sign his name. True Sescenaro's true Okay, says my dad's
eighty three years old. Was admitted to a nursing home
about a month ago. Spent nearly all his years that
(13:35):
I can remember listening to Kyvett. Recently had to go
purchase a radio for him to listen to y'all all day.
Although it comes in a little statically, he still has
it on every day in his room or outside in
his wheelchair. The classic country tunes remind him of the
good old days. Even though he can't have a cold
(13:55):
beer with Don Williams or Charlie Rich if they were
to come in, he reminisces to me about his younger
days of shooting pool and even working in the shop
listening to KVET. Just want to share how y'all's music
selections affect people. Matter of fact. That's what I do
now is listen while I work around the house every day.
Just want to share how much we appreciate what you do.
(14:20):
His name is Andrew cis Naros, and he said loves Tom,
he loves some Don Williams. Thank you very much, and
that is that is from his son, which I thought
was pretty cool. That's very cool, right, So thank you
very much for writing to us. We appreciate it. It's
the JB and Sandy Show and this is ninety eight
one Cavett. Time for us to make our way out
(14:40):
of here. Angie's coming in at ten o'clock. She's got
tickets to my Heart Country Festival to give away. Be
listening at two o'clock and you can win. But before
we go, we like to wrap up the show with
some of the things we learned today. Tricia keeps track
of them.
Speaker 3 (14:54):
What do you have all right?
Speaker 2 (14:55):
We learned that this morning about three o'clock there was
a huge water main break intersection of Sixth and Red
River that intersection is shut down and looks like it's
going to be for a while. They have to do
a lot of repairs, so don't go that way. Get
to work.
Speaker 1 (15:09):
I said it earlier that that intersection needed a good
wash down anyway.
Speaker 4 (15:14):
Right, it's kind of kind of dirty.
Speaker 1 (15:17):
That's the gateway to dirty sixth.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
Yeah, the gateway. It's like the very bourbon street ish section.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
Yeah, oh yeah, that's a good way to describe it.
Speaker 4 (15:26):
Little smelly.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
Another thing we learned was one of Austin's most iconic
coffee shops, Joe's, the one that down on South Congress
has that I Love You so much mural on it.
They're stepping out on us. They opened a shop in
Nashville over the weekend.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
Congratulations. I hope they're selling the world's best granola in
the world is at Joe's. It's their vanilla crunch. Granola
is so good, but you pay. They got the beef
jerky prices for granola really crazy.
Speaker 4 (15:59):
Yeah. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (15:59):
I've never had it, but I know that everybody in
Austin's gotten their picture taken in front of that mural.
Speaker 4 (16:03):
I wonder if they'll do the same.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
I never have, really, I wonder if they'll paint one
on the side of the building in Nashville.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
I don't have anybody to give that photo to.
Speaker 4 (16:10):
Oh stop.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
To his wife, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
I love you so much. I never say that to you.
Speaker 4 (16:20):
You're a peach this morning, Sandy, That's for sure.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
Another thing we learned was that Chico, the dog that
got stolen from the Humane Society last week. A woman
just slipped him right in her person left. He was
returned safely with a note that said, I'm sorry I
took this dog.
Speaker 1 (16:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:35):
Man, that dog is cute. I can see why she
stole it.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (16:38):
Yeah, he's super cute.
Speaker 1 (16:39):
It's probably the most popular dog in Austin today. He'll
get adopted some rich people in west Lake boy.
Speaker 3 (16:45):
And as Sandy and we were there at different times,
but we couldn't get over how many dogs were at
the kitefest.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
Yeah, it was great. They were everywhere.
Speaker 3 (16:53):
Everyone brought a dog so Austin.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
I feel like there's a lot of poop picking up
that happened out there.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
Hopefully people brought bags.
Speaker 2 (16:59):
Yeah, And finally we talked about my raccoon fantasy might
be coming true. I have a thing for wanting to
adopt a raccoon. And we have a friend named Jenny
who on Instagram has a page cardyard called yard Topia Adventures,
and she just sits in her backyard and she feeds
all the raccoons that come up under her back porch.
Speaker 3 (17:19):
She the whispers totally yeah, and you're gonna go hang
with her? I think? Is that the goal?
Speaker 2 (17:25):
That's what I'm easing up to you. I didn't want
to be the weird. Can I come hang out with you?
The first time I texted her, girl, you know what
I mean?
Speaker 1 (17:32):
Yeah, because it.
Speaker 3 (17:33):
Is late at night is when they come out.
Speaker 2 (17:35):
Yeah, I'm just worried that they're gonna what if they
don't accept me?
Speaker 4 (17:38):
What if the raccoons are like, who's this girl?
Speaker 1 (17:40):
Right?
Speaker 4 (17:41):
Jenny will protect me?
Speaker 1 (17:42):
Those are the things we learn. Is there anything else?
Speaker 4 (17:45):
Yep, that's it. That's a good that's that's a lot
of the good things we learned.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
All Right, have a great day. Make sure you join
us tomorrow as well. Angie is in next We'll see
it tomorrow. I have a great day, but
