Speaker 1 (00:04):
Okay, good morning everyone. Welcome to the JB and Sandy Show.
Wherever you are, however you are listening, thanks for being there.
Good morning, mag My name Sandy, This is JB. Hello,
Tricia is here too.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Hi everybody.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
We have one week anniversary, right, congratulations, thanks, thank you.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Well you're a part of this.
Speaker 4 (00:29):
You don't congratulate your congratulating you guys too.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Oh well, thank you. Wow, it's been a week here
on ninety eight one cava. That's hard to believe, isn't it.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Yeah, that's amazing.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
By the way, if you want to be a part
of the show, you can call us at eight four
four three ninety zero k v E T. We start
every day with the first thing that made Tricia laugh.
What do you have?
Speaker 4 (00:48):
It's weird that I trust my left hand to drive,
but not to eat cereal, teeth or anything important.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
I have become a somewhat left handed with certain things,
like I don't throw darts very often, but when I do,
I throw left handed because my right shoulder is so
bad and needs to be replaced. It's that bad. Throw
a dark right when I'm in the curic in the
in the office kitchen here, and I take one of
the currig pods out. I play a little game like
it's gonna be a great day. If I make the
basket into the trash can, it's not a great day.
(01:20):
If I miss so far, I haven't missed it again. Lefty,
but lefty with that stuff so that hurts. I can't
get my shoulder up high enough to toss. It's a mess.
It's it's.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
To fix that.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
Yeah, have shoulder replacement surgery. I'm not doing it.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
I've been through shoulder surgeries with you. We were in
a sling for like six months or something.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
And this is worse. This is the replacing the whole thing.
I do not want to do that.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
You get a refund on the old surgery exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
I know. Didn't you say something about brushing your teeth
with your left hand.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Yeah, well, if you're right handed, you're you're your non
dominant hand. They say it's supposed to I'm just sort
of paraphrasing, like generate stimulate the brain and brain growth. Yeah,
so it's very weird. Try it, so, you know, tomorrow
morning or whatever, when you get home tonight, brush your
teeth with your opposite hand. It's harder than you think.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
That'll take forever.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
It's very weird, but it's supposed to help stimulate brain growth.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
I want to do a video of me doing it.
That'll be funny.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
I mean, it's just it's the easy thing to do
to activate your brain.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
Apparently, I definitely need all the help I can get
with that. It's for sure Tomorrow Night Night One with
George Strait at the Moody Center's Austin's All time Country
Favorites ninety eight one Cavet. Hard to believe it, but
we've been on this radio station for one week today.
We started one week ago today, and it's kind of
(02:46):
a weird thing because JB and I spent eighteen years
together doing a morning show on another radio station here
at Austin. Then we spent eleven years apart, and now
we're back here. We're here on ninety eight one Cavet.
So there's a lot of people that maybe listen to
us back in the day, but there's a lot of
people that have moved to Austin in the last eleven.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
You have no clue the population growth since while we
were off is amazing.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Right, So we're glad that you guys found this radio
station and We hope that you like the show. If
you want to call out, you can. It's eight four
four three nine zero kavet. My name is Sandy, and
this is JB. Hello, and Tricia is here too, and
I and I don't want to keep beating the point,
but it's super important to know this that Tricia and
I are married, right and JB's in a weird spot
(03:32):
kind of working with a married couple.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
Is got Well, it's I find you, guys entertaining because
it's the most non traditional married couple on the planet.
It really, I mean, you're I mean even swingers, look
at you got what is?
Speaker 1 (03:51):
But we are not swear he the lifestyle as they
call it. All right, Good morning, it's ninety eight one
came back. It's the JB and Sandy Show. Tricia, remind
everybody the fluffy worded meme that you're going to fix
in today's trispiration.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
Don't be afraid to take some me time when you
need to.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
Tricia spin on that in just a second. Good morning,
It's the JB and Sandy Show. I'm Sandy. JB's over here. Hello.
You know just heard from Tricia. These guys in a
little secret you early morning people, you're our favorites. They're
the doers, the go getters. Yeah, they're the people that
are up getting stuff done. Yeah, not like.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Those people just tuning in for the first time at
eight thirty.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
But the world has passed you by already, your early listeners.
Don't tell them. They're very sensitive about it, all right,
but you early, you know, six to seven o'clock listeners, guys,
guys are definitely definitely our favorites. All right, one more time,
the fluffy worded meme. You're gonna fix.
Speaker 4 (04:47):
Don't be afraid to take some me time when you
need to, all right, fix it. Don't be afraid to
throat punch someone when you need to. The throat punch
is a very underrated defensive move offensive.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Maybe take anybody down, anybody, right, I.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
Mean, we've got the world's strongest man, Mark Henry in
this building. Well placed, throat throat punch going down. Mark's
going to it for sure. Nice one, Tricia. Everyone take
that with you as you go through your day today.
Just in the mind's ninety eight one kvet It's the
JB and Sandy Show. Good morning. I bet everybody listening,
nobody listening thought they would start their day out with
(05:25):
a story about a beaver in Austin, Texas being rescued.
Details in just a moment. Don't forget that. You can
grab the podcast version of this show every day search
JB and Sandy on the iHeart radio app. Tell me
about the beaver rescue in Austin.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
I need to note we were both trying to find
out exactly where it happened, and just some bad reporting
out there.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Yeah, really some shoddy reporting.
Speaker 4 (05:50):
Either that or they're keeping the baby beaver location a secret.
I don't know which one is.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
They don't want you to come get it.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
This is just where they found it.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
Okay, Well, you know, we had those heavy rains in
the last week going into the weekend, and they think it.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
Got washed away from Wisconsin.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
From its mamm It's right.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
There is a sign that that baby can't survive in
the wild on it, and it's a bee.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
A baby beaver, and it is so stinking cute, so cute.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
Some couple found it, took it to the Austin Wildlife
Rescue and they said after it had a few baby
beaver tantrums, they gave it some milk and it calmed down.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
And there are photos and it is adorable.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
They're calling him Bucky.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
Oh of course they are not real.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
I as I find the beaver to be very an
interesting little creature because if the beaver sees flowing water,
the beaver says.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
Not on my watch, right, no way, no.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
Probably the world's greatest engineers, though, with the damns and stuff.
So what are they going? I mean, what are they
gonna do with this beaver? You said shoddy reporting? Did
they even tell you that? Well?
Speaker 3 (06:55):
They I think they were trying to locate its family.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
Trying to reunite it with its mama. Really, and it's
other brothers and sisters.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
That's interesting. I just didn't what would you just what
do you do? I mean you used to be able
to get money for their skins? Right? Hello to Jamie
and Sandy show. It's ninety eight one kved good morning.
That's right. There is the hottest ticket in Austin, Texas
right now. George Strait Tomorrow night and Saturday night at
(07:26):
the Moody Center. Tricia, how many times have you seen
George straight?
Speaker 2 (07:30):
Probably six times? Yeah, I want to see him again.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
I've seen him twice. Puts on a great show. George
dun moove.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
I feel like I need to told me this. I
have not seen George Straight. It seems like the kind
of event you dress up for. You don't go in
looking like a mom to a George Straight show.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
Oh no, dress up? If you talking about like starch jeans.
Speaker 3 (07:48):
Guys, would weege?
Speaker 4 (07:50):
Yeah, you can to disrespect the king exactly by walking
in and cutoffs.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
Right, Yeah, you're right. I think you're right. A lot
of guys go to that show dressed like George Strait.
That's what I was picturing. Yeah, just like this. That's
a big show Tomorrow night and Saturday night at the
Moody Center. The guys of the crew, not the guys
and gals aboard the Artemis, are preparing splashdown in the
Pacific Ocean on Friday. You're gonna tell us what all
(08:15):
is on the list?
Speaker 4 (08:16):
Yeah, they have a whole Each day is planned out.
So they're on their way back to Earth right now.
Yesterday they left the Moon's orbit, the lunar orbit, and
now they're heading back into Earth's gravity. All right, So
then today they're going to start testing all the small
engines to make sure they fire up like they're supposed to. Fine,
tune them so they can direct their path back. And
(08:38):
then tomorrow they're going to do final preparations for re entry.
They're going to lock everything down. They will already tomorrow
go ahead and put on their re entry suits for
splashdown on Friday, and then on Friday it's go time.
They're going to be entering the atmosphere at twenty five
thousand miles like a second, faster than anybody's ever re
entered before.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
That's the scary moment at all that right, is coming
back into the atmosphere, like going through that there's a
little window that they go through.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
I think that's when you have the most opportunity for
something to go wrong.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
And it's like the craft is at like five thousand degrees.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
Yeah on the outside.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
You're sitting in that little thing, and.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
You think Austin, Texas is hot. It's crazy.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
Here's what I think is very funny.
Speaker 4 (09:20):
Again, they're re entering at twenty five thousand miles per hour,
and then you know those three little parachutes to deploy. Yeah,
those guys have to slow them down to twenty miles
an hour before they hit the water.
Speaker 2 (09:30):
And I feel like those parachutes are like it's really fast.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (09:34):
I mean, guys, do.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
You think Elon Musk is sitting there going splash down?
Speaker 1 (09:40):
Yeah? I kind of thought that when I saw why
are we still splashing down? Elon was catching them with
big giant chopsticks. Yeah. Yeah, I mean it's a little
capsule though.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
I know, right, I think it's a go with what
you know kind of thing.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
I certainly would. I mean, that seems to work. And
I hope the dolphins show up.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
Please let them show up.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
The last splashdown they had it was almost like Hollywood
choreographed it, where a pod of dolphins was surrounding the.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
Pass and like jumping out of the water like celebrating.
The astronauts are bad.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
Yeah, So hopefully the dolphins will show up and say, hey, guys,
welcome back to Earth. Yeah. Second, do we have a
time on estimated time on splash Yeah?
Speaker 2 (10:20):
Eight around eight pm Pacific standard time is what they're saying.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
Very very cool. That's been an amazing what a crazy week.
I know, things crazy for this, it really has been.
Thanks for being with us. It's the JB and Sandy Show.
Good Morning. JB says, if he hadn't checked one thing
on his truck, he would be in the news and
somebody would be in the hospital. He's going to tell
us all about it in just a sec. It's the
JB and Sandy Show, ninety eight one Cavet. My name
(10:47):
is Sandy and JB is here too. Good morning and
Tricia's well, good morning, and all you knew Austin Nights.
Just a little backstory, JB and Nighted radio show together
on another station for eighteen years. We've been apart for
eleven years. And when I just started in our second
week here on Cavet and couldn't be more happy with
this whole setup that we got here. We tricked them
somehow let us in.
Speaker 3 (11:09):
It's like when you're first dating someone. You put on
your best behavior for as long as you can.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
But I've been just incredibly impressed with everything here at iHeart.
So it's great. We're happy to be here. We'd love
to hear from you guys, even I just want to
call and say hi. The numbers eight four, four three
nine zero KB E T all right, JB. Let's hear it, man. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
It started yesterday. I was driving my truck across town
and I was hearing a weird rattle noise. It was
like a metal on metal kind of noise, and I thought, ah,
that's strange. And I was looking around in the back
seat to see if I'd left some tools or something.
And then this morning I thought about it. I'm still
(11:53):
old school, even though my truck's at twenty twenty one.
I started, I let it warm up. I've still got
a peek, like a grandpa mindset with that stuff. Anyway,
I start at my truck and I walk around it.
I have like a metal cage that that goes on
the back of the truck bed. There's a soft top
under it in a cage that goes over it. And
(12:15):
I was walking around the cage just seeing if something
had gotten loose over time. I think maybe that's that
metal on metal sound.
Speaker 1 (12:21):
Right.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
Nothing on top of that cage. I have a big
long metal bike rack that flips up on both sides
to hold each wheel. You don't even take the wheels off.
Speaker 5 (12:32):
I reached up, pulled back on it, and just lifted
it off. Holy crap, that was just floating on top
of my truck, resting there while you just drove around,
just resting.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
Yes, Oh my gosh.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
And I heard it kind of like when I was
hitting bumps yesterday. It was probably bouncing up and down
and landing back on it.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
I could have been cruising down the highway, you know,
either Ben White or three sixty coming to work here,
and that thing could have flown off and gone through
someone's windshield.
Speaker 1 (13:01):
I mean, I'm a big believer. It's either your guardian
angel or the people behind just guardian angel was holding
that thing down right so it didn't hurt somebody. Crazy. Wow.
Speaker 4 (13:11):
I experienced that a little bit in Dallas. Somebody a
ladder storytopper. I'm not going to storytop you storytop, I'm
going to see your story. Yeah, were you and make
you feel better in your story?
Speaker 3 (13:26):
JB.
Speaker 4 (13:27):
Somebody had a ladder fall off and we ran over
it and immediately had two flat tires pulled over to
the side of the road, And in fifteen minutes, twenty
five cars hit the same ladder and were all pulled
over on the side.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
Of the road, blew out.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
There tis blue out their tires.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
Cops.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
I had to come.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (13:44):
So yes, something as small as a bike rack can
do total damage. It was like eight thousand dollars worth
of damage to my friend's crackt.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
Jbie, you are a much better person than me, because
if I'd heard that rattling sound, I'd have just turned
up the radio and Sandy all right, coming up. You
want a good recommendation for a good cheese burger in Austin,
stick around. Our old friend, cheese Burger Brock is going
to join us and make a recommendation. If you've never
(14:12):
heard cheeseburger Brock, he is a peach.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
He is well, he's in outside sales, so he's in
his car all the time, right eating on the road.
He knows everything.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
All right, Cheesberg, stay with us, it's coming up. One
of the few remaining free things to do in Austin
is this weekend at Zilker Park. Good morning, it's the
JB and Sandy Show. Thanks for being here. We'd love
to hear from you. Call us anytime at eight four
four three nine zero k v e T again eight
four four three nine zero kV e T. The Kite
(14:44):
Festivals this weekend. It's sponsored by ABC Home Services. And
the bummer about this is there's like a seventy chance
of thunderstorms.
Speaker 3 (14:53):
Yeah, it's you know, the good news about kitefest They've
had to reschedule many times over the years. It's very
weather dependent. Right now, there's been times where there's zero wind.
This is the windy season though, this time of spring,
and so it may have to reschedule. So we'll keep
an eye on the weather. But it is, like you said,
one of the fun, free things you can do with
(15:15):
your kids. Right in Austin. It's gotten really expensive to
entertain your kids right right, But it's always a blast,
Like it's really really cool. They expect forty thousand people
to visit. That's a pretty full part.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
Is every single dad with littles that takes them to
the to the Zilker Kite Festival. Just know you're going
to spend your day untangling kites all day long. That's
all you're going to do.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
Yeah, and you know it's like where would you go
buy a kite before the event? Now, luckily we're in
the era of Amazon. If you want to order something
to get it just a little play kite for your
little kids. You don't want to I mean there's the expensive, expensive,
competitive kite stuff, but you just want to get a
little one for your kids. You can get it on Amazon,
have it here and maybe Target.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
It has him totally reminds me later on the show, Jay,
But you got to talk about your price kite from
when you were young and what happened to it?
Speaker 3 (16:06):
All right, you tell us my and my kite fest
hack that day after.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
That's right, we've got that coming up for you also.
Cheeseburger Brock joins us in just a bit. It's ninety
eight one kvet. Good morning. Some of you may remember,
some of you may not. Those of you that don't
know him, you're gonna love him. He is our old friend,
Cheeseburger Brock. He is a cheeseburger expert his entire childhood.
He grew up in a golf course that his dad
owned in Atchison, Kansas. Ate a cheeseburger every day that
(16:32):
his grandmother made, and he is a cheeseburger expert.
Speaker 3 (16:35):
Little known fact. That's where I was born. And we
have the same middle name.
Speaker 1 (16:39):
Benedict yep, Jeffrey Benedict and Brock Benedict. Cheeseburger Perslow is
on the phone with us, and you got a good
recommendation for everybody. First, real quickly, kind of go through
your criteria of a good cheeseburger in Austin.
Speaker 6 (16:53):
I will but you just remind me so I got
as you've talked about my grandma in the city today,
my grandma would be a seventeen years old.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
It's a birthday one hundred and seventeen. Wow. That's nice. Yeah,
that's great. But we're here to talk about cheese.
Speaker 6 (17:08):
But I'll just say this. You know, I'm a Greek
sea spoon type guy. All the diners and dies.
Speaker 7 (17:17):
You guys know that about me.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (17:19):
Uh, the landscape has changed so much, you guys know, cheeseburgers.
Back when we were we were eating at gas.
Speaker 7 (17:25):
Stations, but not anymore. We're eating at fancy places like you. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (17:33):
But there's a couple that have popped up over the
last couple of years in Austin specific that are really
really good. The first one is guy, do say that?
Speaker 1 (17:44):
Say the name again?
Speaker 6 (17:46):
I do D I A d u E two words.
Speaker 7 (17:51):
It's over on the East. It's on East off the
East Mainland, right by Haymakers. Okay, all right, you wouldn't
take it the food in general, but cheeseburger, and it's
a fancy one, but tremendous. And then this other one
is probably my top choice right now, Bill's Oyster Bar,
down on Third Street. And so let me think about that.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
Great cheeseburger.
Speaker 6 (18:16):
Yeah, yeah, it's an oyster bar with a cheeseburger. But
then I looked into the specific scepter I had it.
It is a brisket pork shoulder.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
Risk burger. You know, Yeah, I noticed. I've noticed something.
I know that you've advanced rapidly in your career over
the last ten years. And it seems the further advance
you've gotten in your career, the fancier you've gotten with
the burger.
Speaker 4 (18:42):
Snoty with your burger choiceurger brock sometimes sometimes not.
Speaker 6 (18:49):
Everybody likes to go to the Crown and answer.
Speaker 3 (18:52):
That burger has slipped. In my opinion, I had it recently.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
It wasn't as good.
Speaker 6 (18:57):
It's a few months it wasn't quite as good. My
son Devin goes quite a bit and he still likes it.
You know, dirties is different.
Speaker 7 (19:06):
But there's some good ones of them.
Speaker 6 (19:07):
There's some good ones, but I would highly recommend those two.
They're really good. And then the only other thing I
had to say, isn't it funny how the smash burger
has changed? Like, look at two there's two staples. Mighty fine.
And Hot Dotty both have smash burgers on the menu.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
Yeah yeah, that's that's the hot trend. Wag you and
smash burgers.
Speaker 1 (19:28):
Yeah. So, just as we wrap up here, Brock, Cheeseburger, Brock,
the two that you are recommending today, just reiterate those
for us, please.
Speaker 6 (19:38):
I do and builds oyster bar that do east manor
builds oyster bars on Third Street.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
Appreciate anybody having a great day. I know you're driving
to Houston. To drive safe.
Speaker 6 (19:47):
All right, guys, great to talk to you.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
That's Cheeseburger Brock. Everybody with li
