Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is WBZY, Boston's news radio. We defining local.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
News fifty one degrees in Boston at four o'clock. Good afternoon,
I'm Ben Parker. Here's what's happening. It's a big week
for those who want to get away for Thanksgiving, including
from the airport. That's only been a little more than

(00:27):
a week since the FAA lifted their flight restrictions as
a result of the government shut down. Now millions of
Americans are getting their air travel on for Thanksgiving. By
some estimates, it could be the busiest Thanksgiving at airports
in fifteen years.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
This is as much a tradition as Turkey and punkin
pie packed airports in the days before Thanksgiving. This year,
the TSA expects to screen some eighteen million people from
today till next Tuesday, and officials promise they are ready
for the crowds.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
For us, this week is our super Bowl.

Speaker 4 (00:58):
And I'm here to tell you we've got a plan
where past the labs controllers are back at work. They're
excited to be back on the job. They're excited to
be compensated to be back on the job.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
The travel chaos during the government shutdown is now in
the rear view mirror.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
That's CBS is Bradley Blackburn.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
Tripa A, by the way, projects about six million flyers
for the holidays. About seventy million Americans will travel fifty
miles or more during the period. Logan Airport's been packed
as more travelers are on the move for their Thanksgiving
holiday destination.

Speaker 5 (01:27):
Everyone's got their survival tips for the holiday travel season.
Nancy says she always books her flights Tuesday to Saturday
because they're the cheapest, but this year it also works
out even better.

Speaker 6 (01:36):
We knew and Columbus would be a quiet airport because
the Columbus is Ohio State's play in Michigan, so everybody's
going to be home watching the game anyway, so we
figured we could zoom in with no problem.

Speaker 5 (01:46):
We're expecting another travel record to follow this year, and
while security lines are packed, travelers I spoke to were
glad they don't have to deal with the government shut
down as well.

Speaker 6 (01:54):
I was really right with the governments to shut down.

Speaker 7 (01:56):
Like now that it's over, I feel a lot better
about traveling.

Speaker 6 (01:59):
Before that, I was very anxious.

Speaker 5 (02:01):
You breathe a little easier, yes, exactly. Ellie is one
of many college students heading home for the holiday. I
asked her what advice she has for her fellow students
making the track home for the first time. Try to
get a later flight than you think you need, because
it's going to take longer to get to the airport
than you think. From logan Kyle BRAWBZ Boston's News Radio.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
Winter Winter. No turkey dinner, Well not for these turkeys.

Speaker 7 (02:24):
That's Gobble, quite the verbal turkey.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
He's a pardon day for a very important beast.

Speaker 7 (02:30):
President Trump bestowing the pardon upon Gobble in a White
House tradition that goes back seventy eight years.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Well that's a well trained turkey.

Speaker 7 (02:40):
Gobble's buddy, Wattle, was somewhere after delighting the White House
Press Corps in the briefing room. Wattle and Gobble, free
from the dinner table, will become Turkey ambassadors for the
National Turkey Federation. Linday Canyon, CBS News. The White House Deal,
Thank you, sorry about that.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
A piece deal end the war in Ukraine appears to
be at its final stages. President Trump says his plan
to end the war is being fine tuned. While US
Envoy Steve Whitkin is meeting with Russian and Ukrainian officials.
The president also said he may be meeting soon with
Russian President Vladimir Putin once more progress is made negotiations. Meantime,
Russia's launched attacks on Ukraine, while Ukraine has responded with

(03:22):
drone strike. We are going to get some rain above
us as we go through the evening. It's not quite
here yet, well as you could tell by sticking your
head out the window, but it's close. We've got some
rain down in New York City, more out in New
York State, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and all of that is
heading to the north and east, so all of that
is heading in our direction. Later on tonight, we'll start

(03:42):
to see the rain drops keep falling on our head.
Fifties will be eventually the low overnight, although we'll start
in the upper forties as temperatures fall, and then temperatures
rise tomorrow. They will rise until they get to about
sixty and then they'll stop and we'll have some showers
around with the clouds in place. A couple more showers
tomorrow night, temperatures in the low forties, and then for Thursday, Thanksgiving,

(04:04):
the sun comes out forty eight for the high. It'll
be a little breezy, so it'll feel a little cooler,
and it certainly will be cooler, and it'll have that
wind chill feel going on on Friday, Partly sunny, only
in the low to mid forties, very blustery, so it
may feel at times like we're in the thirties. Right now,
it's fifty one degrees in Boston. Back on the water,
the Hingham ferries running again. Wbz's Jawillette with details.

Speaker 8 (04:27):
That's right. Rides to and from the Hingham MBTA Ferry
terminal are running. The reason they weren't was for permanent
repairs to the dock and crews had to observe how
those fared underchanging tides. So waiting that full tide cycle,
typically folks that hop on board are gunning to skip
the bumper to bumper expressway slog heading north to the
city or the airport. The ferry drops off at Long

(04:47):
Wharf in Boston and Logan Airport. But yes, we're full
steam ahead on the Hingham Hall Ferry back to normal
after some dock repairs.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
Jay Willette, WBZ Boston's news radio once again a Thanksgiving
Island style. Former President Joe Biden will be spending Thanksgiving
on Nantucket, continuing a long standing tradition. The citing police
on the island and a former president's spokesperson, The Globe
reports Biden and his family got to the island on Saturday.
Almost every year since the mid seventies, the Biden family

(05:15):
has spent Thanksgiving and often the holiday weekend on Nantucket.
Still nothing on the jewel front, but there's been more
arrests over last month's theft at the Louver.

Speaker 7 (05:24):
I'm Vicky Barker at the Foreign Desk in London. Prosecutors
in Paris say two men and two women have been
arrested in connection with the one hundred million dollar jewel
heist at the Louver Museum, bringing to eight the number
of suspects in custody. It's not yet clear what part
these new suspects are believed to have played in the theft.
There's still no sign of the stolen jewels, including a
diamond and emerald necklace given by Napoleon to Empress Marie Louise.

(05:47):
Vicky Barker, CBS News London.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
Film creatures live longer than others, and now the oldest
resident of the San Diego Zoo has died after a
very long life.

Speaker 6 (05:56):
For more than a century, she munched on her favorite
foods of cactus fruit and domain lettuce. She gave children
rides on her back, and sometimes those kids came back
as adults, bringing their own children to say hello. No
one knew exactly how old Grandma the Galapagos tortoise was
when she died this month at the San Diego Zoo,
but some estimated she was about one hundred and forty
one years old. Grandma lived through both World wars and

(06:18):
twenty US presidents, but she couldn't outlive the bone pain
caused by old age that had rapidly progressed, causing zookeepers
to euthanize her last week. Sherry preston ABC News.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
You are now in the loop.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
