Speaker 1 (00:01):
A very warm sixty two degrees in Boston at six o'clock.
Good morning, I'm Charlie Burgerhn. Here's what's happening. A US
F fifteen fighter jet shot down by Iranian forces. One
crew member was rescued, but at least one is still missing.
Tobs as Charlie Dagger. That says another American aircraft crashed

(00:23):
during the rescue mission. Iran says it shot that aircraft down,
but the US has not confirmed that this is.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
A first since the conflict began. Very latest we're getting
out of US officials is that search and rescue is
ongoing for that second crew member of the F fifteen,
somewhere deep behind enemy lines in the remote region of Iran.
And the downing of that second rescue aircraft due to
enemy fire, even though the pilot was safely out of

(00:49):
Iranian airspace before ejecting, just speaks to how dangerous this
rescue mission is.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
The pilot of that second aircraft was rescued, as for
the crew member that's still missing. Officials in the Iran
are urging citizens to find them alive and are offering
rewards for their capture. A scandal at Lawrence City Hall
has some calling for the mayor to resign. Here's wbz's Sherry.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Small circulating online surveillance video footage allegedly captured in the
hall outside Lawrence Mayor Brian Depinia's office. The problem is
the audio is also recorded.

Speaker 4 (01:26):
It's a felony to record anybody without the knowledge.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
That's Chris Ryan, president of the New England Police Benevolent Association,
the union representing Lawrence police and superior officers. They've been
in contract negotiations with the city for more than a year.

Speaker 4 (01:41):
We've held numerous bocketing sessions inside Lawrence City Hall.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
To think that they may have been listening in on
our conversations is extremely disturbing. The union is calling for
Mayor Depinia's resignation and demanding investigations at the local, state,
and federal levels. Meanwhile, Laurence City Council President Giovanni Rodriguez
tells me that the council also wants investigations, transparency, and
for those responsible to be held accountable. From Laurence. Sherry Small,

Speaker 1 (02:08):
Baseball at Fenway yesterday, Red Sox beat the Padres five
two in their home opener. CBS News Boston's Paul Burton
was there. There's nothing like opening day at the White Park.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
Season doesn't startin so you can get it at Fare.

Speaker 5 (02:22):
I've just been waiting and waiting all winter long for today,
and here it is, and I couldn't be any happier.

Speaker 4 (02:30):
Gorunzo, gosh, it's like a magical I guess, like you
walk through fend My Park and like then you feel.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
Like you're holding.

Speaker 6 (02:36):
For some fans, this is a new experience.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
So excited, first one.

Speaker 5 (02:40):
Ever, very excited, this is my first opening day.

Speaker 6 (02:43):
For others, like Jacob Chappelle, opening day is marked on
his calendar, just as bright and bold as the bee
on kids' faces.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
This is like your tradition that we have.

Speaker 4 (02:53):
I just love seeing that flag roll out in left field. Like,
how long you've been a Red Sox fan since Osborn?

Speaker 6 (03:01):
How shit are you for opening Day?

Speaker 4 (03:02):
I'm really excited.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
I've been waiting all year before the game started. The
Red Sox honored the nineteen eighty six team forty years
after their American League championship, Game two of the series
with the Padres today at Fort ten. Let's check the
four day WDBZ achy weather forecast. Rob and LaTroy Thornton
tells us today will be cloudy, breezy. Well, we're at

(03:25):
sixty two right now. That's going to be our high
temperature for the day. We're going to see temperatures throughout
the day fall through the fifties, even into the forties.
Some drizzle Tonight thirty eight for low, Tomorrow for Easter,
Sunday cloudy, breezy, rain of times, high near sixty, Monday, clouds, sun,
a cooler breeze, only fifty two, and then Tuesday clouds

(03:46):
and sun with a shower and only forty five for
a high on Tuesday, and it will stay cold right
into midweek. So at least for now it's nice. Sixty
two degrees got that win, though gusting to twenty miles
per hour feels like it's in the fifties at six
h five. It's all about progressive jazz in Medford this weekend.
Here's wbz's and a Friedman.

Speaker 7 (04:08):
Nko Melanowski and David Wright are big fans of an
experimental style of jazz music, so much so that they
started their own music festival for it.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
We're nerds, there's no other way to put it. We
both grew up on different but OsO similar music that
wouldn't have made us very popular in high school. But
we're now doing a festival for it, so I think
it's a think's going pretty well.

Speaker 7 (04:29):
They're behind the Boston Progressive Jazz Festival, where eight acts
take the stage and fill the room with music. At
Deep Cuts in Medford.

Speaker 6 (04:35):
We have some local acts, you know, people who live
the next town over, and we also have some people
that are touring bands.

Speaker 7 (04:40):
Our goal to listen to some great music from both
local and touring artists and to try and build up
Boston's music scene.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
We really want to build the community here and expand
it so that there's more opportunities for musicians here and
for people to come here for.

Speaker 7 (04:53):
Music in Medford. I'm a Freedman w b Z, Boston's

Speaker 1 (04:57):
So a group of students from Merrimack College which went
on a spring trip to Italy and as part of
a class assignment, their plan was to retrace the steps
of Saint Augustine. The Globe reports the Reverend Joseph Farrell,
a former campus minister at Merrimack Account's Pope Leo the fourteenth,
among his friends. Reverend Farrell reached out to the Pope

(05:18):
about the student's plans. Pope Leo unannounced met with the
students in the chapel at the Order of Saint Augustine's
General Curia near the Vatican pretty neat. Back in two
thousand and five, the Reverend Robert Prevost was awarded an
honorary degree from Merrimack. Reverend prevosts is now Popelio the fourteenth,
and he never forgot that honor and made a trip

(05:40):
to Italy for some Merrimack students, one they will not
soon forget. Students at Brockton High School are learning how
to help their peers cope with mental health issues. Here's
wbz's Suzanne Soasville.

Speaker 5 (05:51):
There are nearly four thousand students at Brockton High and
if they're like most people, many of them struggle with
some kind of mental health.

Speaker 6 (05:59):
Issue, anxiety, stress of what to do for the future.

Speaker 5 (06:02):
Tristan to Saint is a senior and one of nearly
forty students who were certified in mental health first aid
through Pinnacle Partnerships.

Speaker 6 (06:11):
I really enjoyed the classes. They BAC talk like information.
What to do If I have a classman will appear
going through something, who to put them to talk to
or how to talk to them, or how to spot signs.

Speaker 5 (06:22):
Health teacher and advisor for the Pure Mediation program, Jennifer
Rooneiac says it lessens the stigma attached to mental health.

Speaker 8 (06:30):
It's okay to ask for help, you know, it's not
a weakness that there's so many people that are struggling
just like them. It shouldn't be taboo to talk about
or seek help when necessary.

Speaker 5 (06:40):
In Brockton, Suzanne Sasville WBZ Boston's.
