Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, guys, it's Bethany from the Michael J. Morning Show.
You're listening to Michael J and Bethany after hours ninety
three point one w POC.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
I was talking to Bonnie over here, and I got
totally sidetracked here.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
What's going on? Helped me out?
Speaker 3 (00:14):
Okay, So someone said, first, I agree with Cheryl. I
am not a huge Valentine's Day fan, but give me
jewelry any day. I prefer flowers edible arrangements. This year,
I'm getting my husband a beef jerky flower bouquet with
some meathearts. Here's hoping he finds that romantic happy Valentine's Day.
(00:35):
Michael and Bethany. All right, hey, and we got I
think it's Bonnie. Let me see if she's on the phone. Bonnie,
go ahead, excuse me, Bonnie, wait this. I'm like, have
a little primer home say. I'm trying to figure it
out a little problem with bonn.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
You got excited to think about going away with Cheryl?
Speaker 2 (00:52):
No, No, I think I had a problem with the computer.
Here we go, because I've seen him fro up to
eight ninety nine. Yeah, when I went chopping the other day,
they were over eight dollars. That was insane.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Yeah, but hey, Bobby a lot you said.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
It's Bobby right, Yes, Hey, happy Happy Valentine's Day.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
Thank you, same to you. Yeah, So what is.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
It that you find very romantic for Valentine's Day? What
is your your dream idea of a Valentine's Day?
Speaker 4 (01:21):
Well, after fifty nine years.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
Of marriage, it's just nice to be able to be
with the one you love at all. Do things since
you walk together?
Speaker 2 (01:33):
Right?
Speaker 1 (01:34):
Nice? A nice little meal together? All right? Sweets? Now
will you cook or will you guys go out? We
just go out to a neighborhood place. We enjoy the
word together.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
Oh well, congratulations for being together and let me give
you a fifty dollars wise gift card.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
All right, that's wonderful.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Yeah, congratulations of those two lovers after all this time,
it's really go get your some eggs.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
Happy Valentine's Day.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
Yeah, Now we've got the iHeart Country World premiere of
brand new Dirk's Bentley.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Are We Ready? Is Upbeat? Baby? Here we Go? Ninety
three point one, POC Baltimore, The Michael J.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
Morning Show ninety three point one wpoc Hey. It is
a big day.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
For us os fans because the full team is showing
up at spring training. They're now getting things going at mess.
So Bethany is a casual baseball observer.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
I like beer and then sometimes to glance over at
the players.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
So I'm kind of getting her up to speed with
what we're looking forward to. We had some really big
news because Mike Elias, the GM of the team, announced
that we have very few injuries. We had a horrific
injury last year with Jorge Mateo. If you'll remember, there
(03:02):
was a play between Gunner Henderson and Jorge Mateo at
second base and Jorge's arm got bent basically backwards and
really messed up his elbow in his arm, so he
had to have surgery, which ended his career last season,
not his career, just his season. Uh, And he is
(03:23):
recuperating at this point. They say he will not be
ready to go on opening day, but they say that
it's going in the right direction, so hopefully best for Jorge.
The other big thing is this whole Jackson Holiday question. Yeah,
so I was explaining to you he's this really cute kid,
very young.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
They rushed him too quickly, in my opinion.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
They brought him to the major leagues, right, and when
they brought him up, he had to he had to
make the jump from minor league pitching to major league pitching,
and he just didn't. He needed more time. Okay, the
was still bad cook. Yeah, so listen to this. So
in the off season, all right, Jackson Holiday has been
eating a whole lot of ground beef. That's what he
(04:10):
says he's doing. Is that right, Yeah, he's eating a
lot of a lot of meat. And he just posted
a video with his brother. Now, Jackson Holliday's dad, Matt Holliday,
was a major leaguer too.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
Oh so this is a family tradition.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
And his baby brother, why not baby but like a
little bit younger brother also a tremendous baseball talent. So
Jackson Holiday, listen to this. You got to hear this.
He's hitting off the tee. Now do you know what
that is?
Speaker 1 (04:34):
Like? Like T ball?
Speaker 2 (04:35):
Yeah, exactly. Okay, so of course he's gonna have to
hit live pitching, but right now he's just practicing bat
speed on a tee and he's hitting the ball one
hundred and ten miles an hour off the tee, which
people are like, No, Calton Cowser's like no way he's
doing that.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
Yeah he is.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
He's got the video to document it, and you can
if you follow Jackson Holiday on there. He is his
dad can't hit one hundred and ten and his dad
was a major league.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Yeah, So Jackson Holiday appears to be ready to play
this year.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
The ground beef is doing his body good. I guess so.
But it's gonna come down to can he do it
in a live situation? You know what I mean? We'll
see ninety three point one.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
Around my mind. I can't count the times you made
me feel you lack them nothing, play me lack a fool,
lack of fool.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
Say Happy Valentine's Day.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
I hope it's a romantic one here, Stay little Valentine.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
You're ninety three point one WPO saying Ronnie millsap serenading you,
Bethany hitch.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
Day is Valentine.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
Well, I'll tell you this is a Valentine's Day that
Joseph Cook is never gonna forget.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
This story is going to make you say, oh my god.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
Okay, if you're just joining us here on the program,
we like to do this thing around this time where
Michael J and I find good news stories and then
try to compete to see who has a better good
news story.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
All right, So Joe Cook is a metal detectorist.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
Do you know what that is? I would imagine that
someone who uses a metal effect.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
Yes, he goes up and down the beach, babe, Okay,
and he's trying to find something.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
You know, and did your treasure? Didn't You? Always wonder
if those people ever find anything? They do?
Speaker 3 (06:34):
Yeah, I mean I think they do find good something
while dang did Joe find something he find?
Speaker 2 (06:40):
He uncovered a forty thousand dollar lost wedding ring on
the beach. Now, let me ask you a question really quick.
If you found something like that, what would you do?
Would you hocket, go sell it?
Speaker 1 (06:54):
Probably I wear it. I probably wear it. I think
a lot of people. Would you know what he did?
What do you do? He has a big heart.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
He went to Craig's List and he started looking to
see if anybody had lost a ring like the one
that he found.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
Well, he didn't stop there.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
He emailed all the stores, all these jewelry stores, like
he went to like smythe and he said, hey, did
you sell this ring? No, we didn't sell that.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
He went to another store.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
You know, but he finally didn't start at smythe That's
where he would have ended. When you see how big
this ring is. Oh my god, it's a forty thousand dollars.
I don't know many carrots. The thing's huge.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
He said.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
I had a jewelry store check it out and tell
me it was a special type.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
Of diamond and very expensive. Wow.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
So eventually, a month after finding the ring with his
metal detector, he started getting calls. Now you got a wonder.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
Of course everyone's gonna be like, yeah, that's mine.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
He put it out there right. He says he was
shocked he actually found the owners. I know you're gonna ask.
I figured you're gonna ask that. He talked to them
through TikTok and he said he confirmed it through the
store that they bought it, and the store confirmed it.
Metal detectoring is governed by ethical principles, and he says,
(08:15):
I need to be ethical.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
Wow, I need to give the ring back to its
rightful owner. This is a guy.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
People joked that he should have sold it for twenty
thousand dollars and shut up, but he didn't. He found
the owners. They were just beside themselves with excitement. I
can't imagine how happy they'd be.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
There was her wedding ring. She couldn't have been happier.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
She lost it when she was at the beach because
you put sunblock on her, sundown oil and your rings
and you know what I mean, you eat all of my.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
Forty thousand dollars rings, though I tend to keep those
at home when I go to the beach. Yeah, I
mean it is a beautiful, beautiful Wow.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
So she got her ring about her forty thousand dollars ring.
She was probably crushed to have lost her. She's screaming, Yeah,
you can, you can google it. It's quite quite a story.
Joseph Cook returning forty thousand dollars.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
That's really sweet, Michael J.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
I love to hear about rich people who get lucky.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
Here's the all right, let's hear your story if you
can top it, all right.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
A mom in Minnesota has launched a matchmaking service to
help people with intellectual disabilities find love. Her name's Catherine,
and she was inspired by her son, Nicholas, who's twenty
and has Down syndrome.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
He wanted to date.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
He tried to hop on the typical dating apps, but
she was really worried that he would get scammed or
you know, like just be unsafe, right, So she thought, well,
I'm gonna fix this, so she started an app called
find Love Safely. It's a matchmaking app specifically designed for
individuals with intellectual disabilities. And with the app, her son
(09:52):
has already gone on three dates and found a love
called Reya, who he describes as cute and wonderful.
Speaker 1 (09:59):
That's sweet. I feel like I could cry because they're
so cute.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
And today for Valentine's Day, they're having a speed dating
mixer in Minnesota. I think that this could be like nationwide.
I think this is fantastic.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
It is so I would say, you've got a good story.
But a woman got a forty thousand dollars diamondback. And
I just found out further that since twenty twenty, that
guy Joe Cook I was telling you about has returned
over two hundred and fifty thousand dollars of lost items
through his metal detector.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
Okay, that's pretty good.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
He's a pretty good guys. Any talk about an honest bloke.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
I woke up again this moment.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
Ninety three point one DOPOC Michael j and Bethany. You
can always get a hold of us at eight hundred
three two one thirty six ninety three or text seven
seven nine six y two.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
You have to start your message with either the word
high or the word hey. Somebody gets to us here
in the studio. All right, somebody on tech said, Hey,
good morning. I want to take a very special moment
to wish Bethany a happy Valentine's Day. Hope you have
a good day. Baby cakes, Oh, baby cakes? Also hi, Michael,
j oh yeah, I'm not a baby cakes kind of guy.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
Oh my god, thank you. But a happy Valentine Day? Dirks,
you didn't have to text me.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
Now?
Speaker 1 (11:17):
Is it at the station?
Speaker 2 (11:18):
I feel weird? Is it happy Valentine? Or is it
happy Valentines Day? I never knew how to tell.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
That's a good question. I always thought it was like
with the apostrophe, s like, well, either way happy.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
I don't want to say VD day, but Valentine Valentine's Day?
Speaker 1 (11:34):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (11:34):
Also, we just had our battle of good news stories
a few moments ago.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
The guy that found the forty thousand dollars diamond had
to be the good story.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
Nope, turns out it was me. Oh well, Bethany you
are the winner today, You're gonna go, Hey, what are
we going to do with change? I want to ask
one more time. Should coins be eliminated entirely?
Speaker 2 (11:54):
They're talking about getting rid of pennies and I got
a note here, gentlemen.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
And note he said, Michael J.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
Many of the reasons for eliminating the penny applied to
other coins as well, like the nickel, the dime.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
Yeah, I feel like we should just get rid of
all change, he says. My stances they cost more than
their worth.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
Nickels and he says nichols are money losers, just like
pennies are. He says we could easily get rid of pennies, nickels,
and dimes and be no more inconvenience than the average
person one hundred years ago. He says, our pockets would
be lighter, and the time spent at the register would
be less without having to count them out, you know,
(12:37):
so it would save everybody time.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
I mean, unless is there an alternative problem that we're
not thinking of, Like, is this going to affect inflation?
Speaker 1 (12:46):
Well?
Speaker 2 (12:46):
Is this in just I just typed in to Google
and who knows that Google's always right? But I wrote,
will getting rid of change cause inflation. The answer no,
getting rid of change would not cause inflation. This is
what Google says. Okay, but other factors can. Inflation can
be caused by a number of factors, including and that's
(13:08):
where I started glazing over devaluation, cost push inflation. I
have no idea inflation expectator. Who knows ew economists. We're
not idle worring. All I know is I think we
get inflation when they start asking too much for eggs,
And isn't that happening.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
Nine dollars for eggs. It's a lot of pennies, all right,
But should we get rid of them?
Speaker 3 (13:31):
You can?
Speaker 1 (13:31):
You can hit us up. We'd love to hear your opinion,
any colder.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
I don't wait taking only ninety three point one w poc. See,
there's chaos behind the scenes when we're on the radio.
That's why it's just nutty in here.
Speaker 3 (13:56):
Someone said, Happy Valentine's Day to both of you. I
taught my son how to count you using pennies. Besides
teaching kids kind of how to count, I honestly find
no value in them. My son is now seven, and
he no longer will take pennies if he gets them
as change. Well, this morning has a great.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
All right you too, you too.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
Nickname for.
Speaker 1 (14:18):
She's my sexy for what was the second my sexy
for his ocean. She's she's my sexy for my ocean. Oh, oh, Michael,
I think that's kind of a hot name, is it?
Speaker 2 (14:31):
Well?
Speaker 1 (14:32):
Hold on, I gotta fan myself off. I don't know
the next thing.
Speaker 3 (14:37):
I know.
Speaker 1 (14:38):
I'm on the Titanic. I don't know what what is
he talking about? I want you to go home and
calls you earlier oceaney my ocean. See how that goes? Oh,
I got it? Motion in the ocean or something like that.
Pocic woa baby, Oh my god. Okay.
Speaker 3 (14:54):
Road construction taking over as the major issue out there
per usual on the outerly op and innerloop at Security Boulevard,
and then on ninety five northbound by a mountain road.
There's an accident on Belfast Road between Falls and Tanyard
Road causing a little bit of an issue there. And
then in Stevensville we've got some issues at the Bay Bridge.
Speaker 1 (15:15):
But other than that, you should be good to go.
Speaker 3 (15:17):
Well.
Speaker 2 (15:17):
I have issues every day everywhere, so hey, I can
announce this right now. Not only do we have the
iHeart Country World premiere of New Dirk's Bentley. Throughout the
day to day, I understand this weekend you're gonna want
to keep your radio in ninety three point one WPOCA.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
Listen to what we're doing.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
I'll say two words that'll basically sum it all up,
and you'll know Luke Brian.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
