Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, let's get into a little bit more football discussion

(00:02):
right now.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Tyler Dunn fromgolongtd dot com is joining us right here
on the morning driving Ty for starrtys Man, Good to
hear from you. It's been a while, but you just
spent the past week and a half talking with Texans players,
being inside the clubhouse, getting a good understanding about what
this team's identity is going into the playoffs. When you
look back at your conversation with the ziz Alshai yere

(00:24):
and with Kamaria Laster and Derek Singley Junior, what's the
overall takeaway going into this postseason.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
Great to hear your voice, man, Thanks so much for
having me on. Cole and the gang always appreciate it. Yeah,
I think, uh, you know what pops to mind if
there's one takeaway, so spending you know, just about a
week down there a game week talking to a Za's
and Kamari Lassater and Matt Burke, a bunch of these guys. EJ.
Speed was great too. I feel like if you're if

(00:53):
you're a fan from any era, you can appreciate the
Houston Texans. You know, I grew up in the nineties
and seeing Greg Lloyd stare through people's soul and Bruce Smith,
Reggie White just throwing offensive tackles around. I don't know,
like there's there's a purity to the game then my
dad growing up sixties seventies, you know, watching the old

(01:14):
Raiders and then you know they got the steel curtain
back then. I feel like the game has changed so much.
Every rule, every provision obviously caters toward the offense. The
gambling apps and fantasy football have exploded. And then here's
the Houston Texans who say they're going to punch you
in the face. They go out there, they punch you
in the face, and there's really nothing you can do

(01:35):
about it. Right, there's nothing magical, there's no x'es. And
those that are going to deceive and deceit, like Patrick
Mahomes and Josh Allen knew it was coming and they
couldn't do anything to stop it. This is a relentless,
old school defense that I think everybody can can appreciate.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
You know, Toy we talked about a little bit earlier.
The deep ball last couple of games has been an
issue for the Texans. Now you've also had a banged
up Kamari Lasters. Do you think that there is a
little bit of a deficiency just in terms of the
coverage of that group, or do you think that that's
more of exactly who I mentioned not being on the field.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
Exactly. You know, you can you can tell when Lassier
isn't on the field and he's been battling it. I
mean when we talked to his foots in a boot,
I mean, this is a guy that's been in pain,
dealing with stuff all season and able to kind of
nurse it during the week, get out there on game
day and ball out. You know, he grew up on
the legion of boom and I think makes me feel
old by the way, like a lot of these guys

(02:31):
grew up watching Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas and Camp Chancellor.
It's like all these kids that grew up idolizing that
defense are in the NFL now and they're allowed to
play that way in this defense. So he kind of
sounds like Richard Sherman's long lost nephew when when you
talk to this guy he grew up. He put on
the pads at four years old in his hitting people.
I mean, my son is four. I can't imagine putting

(02:52):
the pads on Sonny and just letting them, you know,
line up for a little Oklahoma drill. But it's uh,
he was Brett different down there in Savannah, Georgia. He's
duplexing guys in high school, just dropping them right on
their head. He called his big hit the Camari Crack.
He gave it a nickname. Kind of relive that in
the story, and then you know, gives the Georgia relayed.
I can't supplex people quite as much anymore, but you

(03:14):
can see why the Texans love this guy. You know,
when he ran those four sixes at his pro day,
it's scared off a lot of scouts. We talked to
some and Golong back then, and I think that, you know,
he objectively fell on some boards. I mean, if you're
a corner and you're pulling four six four six at
your pro day, you know when to stop watch. It
seemed to seem to be clicked a little faster. It's

(03:36):
just like a perfect environment that worried a lot of
people are on the NFL. But by then, Demiko, Ryans,
Matt Burke, Nick Sario, the entire pron office, they were
in love with this guy. I mean they they value
the mentality of a football player, like do you like
it or do you love it? I mean, are you
gonna go out there and play with passion? Or is
it a nine to five job? And when the season's over,
you're looking forward to vacation. I'm telling you, like, it's

(03:58):
not cliche. You guys see it too close. When these
seasons end and you're in that locker room cleanup day,
you can tell who's who's ready to get on with
their lives and you almost can't blame them, and who's
genuinely devastated. The Texans find guys who want to run
through that wall for their coach. I mean, I think
Henry he's at Toto. He said that he would die

(04:18):
on a field for this coach and the coach would
do the same. And I was like, you're kidding, right,
like you're exaggery. He said, no, I would we all
would they find that kind of player? Man? So yeah,
to answer your question, if he's been on the field,
it's gonna show you definitely need him opposite Stingley because
I mean, people are going to avoid Stingley and he's
been ready all season long to make those plays time.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
I mean, you have a story out right now on
Golong TV Outlaws talking about linebacker playing just this defense
in general, and you do a great job of storytelling
and bringing up Aziz al Schaier's background and what it
took him to go from being at Florida Atlantic to
proven the hey belonged on the field with Tamika Ryans.
But when you look in your conversations and you're you know,

(05:00):
your research and being able to build a rapport with
what he was able to kind of accomplish. Just the
impact of what he has meant to this Texans defense
and how well that transition from year two to year
three with Dimigo Ryans now has this Texans team looking
like their offense scenes against twenty I mean, you give
me twenty points. I'm not saying that that's good, but

(05:21):
it's almost enough to feel confident that you're gonna win
the football game.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
It's unbelievable what disease has done for this entire team.
You can tell everybody kind of derives their energy, their
passion off of number zero in the middle of that huddle.
You know, his voice was hoarse in the pregame speech
out of that Colts game that they put out that
videos like the game hasn't big fun and he's already
losing his voice. That's who he is. And I think

(05:48):
that outside I'm an outsider. I live up in western
New York. I'm just kind of consuming the disease clips
like everybody else. And you wonder, is he what everybody's saying, like,
is he dirty? Is this somebody that should be banned
from the sport? And then you learn about where he
came from. Twelve years old, his house is burning down.
You know, his sisters was cooking, let the stove on,

(06:10):
grease fire, tries pouring water on it, makes it worse,
you know, tucks a younger brother under each arm, gets
out of the house, runs back in, gets his one
year old Niee, saves her life. House burns down and
they're homeless, right, a family of eleven with his mom,
his siblings, two little grandkids, and they get into an
extended say motel. It's all in the story. I could
go on and on, but when you really understand, like

(06:32):
why he attacks each snap of a practice the way
he does, each snap of a game the way he does,
you know, making the teammate in San Francisco as a
UDFA off of torn acl tackling guys to the ground,
pissing off College Shanahan Shanahan team meeting's like a zee.
You tackle one more guy, You're gonna get cut. You're
out of here. And then he blows up a Cowboys

(06:53):
running back out of screenplay that exhibition game and makes
the team basically with that one place, you see why
this guy plays through the echo of the whistle and
is able to run and hit and play with relentlessness
everything that Burke and Ryan's and Casara want on this team. Like,
I think it's commendable that when his world is caving in,

(07:15):
and this is kind of the crescendo I suppose of
the series we have at the site in part two
where okay, like the Trevor Lawrence play happens, it's ugly,
you put in slow motion, yeah, flag find all that stuff.
But right then the Texans could have done what most
people do in life, in any industry and go on
the apology tour, right just kind of bow to the

(07:36):
mob and oh yes, yes he's dirty. Oh yeah, we
can't have this. No, No, The TM called John Running's
letter BS and then say bs Biko. Ryans says that
the owners shouldn't be on the defensive player to figure
out when that quarterback is gonna slide like the quarterback.
It's so true. You see it on that play, and
you see it with Mahomes along the sideline they try

(07:57):
to get a couple extra yards. You gotta street them
like a runner. What's disease? What are all these guys
supposed to do in those bang bang plays? So he
stands up for him, Matt Burke stands up for him.
It's a dark time for his ease. I mean, he
was depressed, he was injured. The Casey playoff game was brutal,
but eventually he gets through it because I think he's
in a place that allows himself to be himself. I mean,

(08:18):
he can play one hundred miles an hour just like
everybody else. And doubling down in that moment I think
really helped the Houston Texans lean into everything they are
as the football teams again.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
Ty Don joining us here at Tyler Dunna go along
at TD dot Com. Hopping on with us here for
a few minutes on the morning Drive with Dan and Cole.
With this matchup on Monday night, is there anything from
the Steelers side that you look at and say that's
going to be a massive problem for the Texans.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
I'm, oh, my god, maybe I shouldn't chuckle, like I
didn't see that win over Baltimore coming. I really thought
after Derrick Henry went for three hundred on Green Bay
and it was just this emasculating performance, Like it was
brutal watching that game. All Right, you got Henry, you
got Lamar back. The Ravens are the Ravens. I thought

(09:06):
they I thought they'd blow them out their own building,
and they didn't, and they missed the kick, and Aaron
Rodgers made some plays late to his credit, they were
able to kind of go back and forth and they
won the division. Can't take that away from him. I
don't know, man, I mean, a forty one, forty two
year old whatever he is, Aaron Rodgers, who he still
has a good arm, he still is a great brain.

(09:26):
He can't move like I see the Texans feasting in
this game. I don't know. I mean, maybe they go
to this quick passing attack and they really try to
run the ball and they're they're not going to be
doing seven step drops, but how whatever they do. I
just feel like Will Anderson junior Daniel Hunter. This entire defense,
they're going to be in swarm mode and then some

(09:49):
I don't know. I mean, maybe like DK's return helps,
Maybe Kenneth Gainwell can can buff free on a screenplay,
but I I don't I even like that Raiders game,
even this Colts game when they had the JV team
out for half the game. The big plays to me,
I mean, I'm not just like telling your listeners what
they want to hear. They almost seem kind of floky,

(10:11):
Like I feel like you look at the entire season.
This Texans defense is suffocating and they just they know
man demand one on one in any situation, they're gonna
be better than you, and then they'll be better than
the Steelers in this game.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
Ty, You've been doing coverage over the Texans for the
last three years since Will and CJ and Dimiko all
came down here. And it's why go long TV is
a great website for anybody in Houston. They need to
check it on out because of the amount of coverage
that you get over there on teams that deserve the respect.
You've seen the growth from the last three seasons. I'm
gonna put you on the spot with Tamiko Ryans, CJ. Stroud,

(10:46):
and Will Anderson in the building and what this culture
has culminated over the last three years. Do you feel
like it's a matter of when, not if the Texans
will hoist up their first Lombardi Trophy with this current regime.

Speaker 3 (11:01):
It is true though, like sometimes like you sniff success,
you've got a team that can get to the Super
Bowl and win it. You're close, and you think we're
gonna be back there year and a year out and
it doesn't happen. I mean, look at Aaron Rodgers, the
quarterback they're gonna face. He wins the Super Bowl his
second season as a starter. Everybody assumes, oh man, he'll
be winning two, three, four or five more. He doesn't

(11:23):
even get back to the game like it's forgetting his
winning and he can't even get back to it. And
he's one of the greatest evers. So you never know.
But I'm a believer in this head coach. I think
he just gets it. You know, there is a Matt Burke.
When we sat down the defensive coordinator, he had a
line that I just thought, like, just nailed nailed the bulls.
All coaches just think this way He's like, look on Sunday,

(11:47):
I try to be as unobtrusive as possible, like it
is the player's day. By then they know what they've
got to do. We're not gonna flood their conscious and
their subconscious with xs and o's and do this, do that, No,
do your thing. And whether it's the way you run
a defense, the way you run an offense, how you
conduct your your organization. I just feel like so many

(12:07):
coaches forget that that it's an instinct game, it's a
human game, and you've got to believe in the people
you bring into the building. And the Texans do they
do it right? I feel like that's going to lead
to a super Bowl at some point. To answer question yes,
And this question is with the offense. Look, when you're
building up this defense, you can't really do what Chicago

(12:29):
did in the span of forty eight hours with Joe
Tooney and Jonah Jackson and then they get Drew Dollman.
They load it up. But guess what the Bears defense thinks.
They forced a lot of turnovers, that's why they're in
the playoffs, why they won the division. But they can't
stop anybody. I mean, the Texans have the best defense,
and yeah, an inconsistent offensive line, but you hit a

(12:50):
couple of big plays like they did against the Chargers,
you get up fourteen. The defense is going to do
the rest. And in this AFC that's wide open. Why not?

Speaker 1 (12:58):
The Texans can find his work again at go along
at TD dot com and he's got a piece that's
right up there at the top of the website. Outlaw
is Part two. Why is E's al Shaier and the
East Houston Texans Savages seek and Destroy. He's Tyler Dune
again Go along TD dot com. Tyler, Hey really appreciate
your stuff this morning. Great stuff and definitely you know

(13:20):
we're going to have you back on again because I
love this information.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
Say hi to add for me, Buden.

Speaker 3 (13:27):
I absolutely will say hi to add our dog for recall.
I know that you are as big as a fan.
And hey, thanks so much, Bellows. This is a lot
of fun. And thanks to all the Texans and the
faithful down there for finding golong. I got a lot
