Blessen is hard. Hey, hey, I haven't question your cousin
out there. My cousin's been here, bro, and he is
not doing well. Bless It's hard. My cousin has been here.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
For those that haven't been able to see me yet,
I'm in Las Vegas, Nevada. The homeboy turned. I don't
even know how holy turned. It is his birthday today
and beyond fifty. Let's just say that he is definitely
beyond fifty. So we made we made a quick trip.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
He was learning about his age so much. Nobody knows.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Yeah, you know him well, so uh we out here
celebrate my boy. Happy birthday, Kenny.

Speaker 4 (03:21):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
We're gonna do it up big. A little bit later,
I need to take a nap. But in between that,
I'm gonna be out here talking to you. And I
got to get into this conversation Mark, because Paul Fine Bomb.
Now we all know Paul Fine baumb he's a good dude.
He uh well, he actually is. If you, if you
spend some time with him, you realize that. I think

(03:44):
he's more. He would be great for the w W.
E Okay, he's a sensational list. Yeah, he does things
just to hyperbolic.

Speaker 4 (03:55):
I like that. We'll go with hyperbolic.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
But this statement yesterday how to put the world in
a tizzy.

Speaker 4 (04:01):
Now we all believe in Arch Manning.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
And we'll hear more in the next segment from coach
Sark and we'll talk about uh, this Texas football.

Speaker 4 (04:09):
Team along the way.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
But when you hear certain things on a player that
has not really put any working yet, and I don't
mean it disrespectfully, I know that that that there's some
things that need to happen along the way. But man,
let me just tell you when you hear this conversation.
And Mark, you and I are both fans. We're both

(04:33):
fans of Arch Manning when we expect him to be successful.
But the realization is we always throwing so much on
these players to make them the next great something. He's
the next great, and it's like, just let him be
who he is and let him go out there and
play and then everything else will follow. In the in
the place I want you to hear, I want you

(04:53):
to hear from believe it, let's hear from.

Speaker 6 (04:57):
Fine Baumm, what are your expectations for Arch?

Speaker 7 (05:02):
The absolute roof I think there was a reasonably good
chance that arch Manning will be sitting on the front
row in New York at the Heisman ceremony. That's assuming
that his team does what it's supposed to do and
compete for not only the SEC but for the national championship,
and I really believe they will. I think Steve Sarkisian,
who's one of the most amazing play callers I've ever seen,

(05:23):
made a critical mistake late in the year. He was
way too loyal to quinn Ewers, who was banged up
and was really ineffective. Had arch Manning been instituted in
the second half of that game, like Dick Saban did
a couple of years ago with tongue of I looa,
I think there's a reasonably good chance that Texas would
have beaten Ohio State and won the national championship.

Speaker 4 (05:45):
They're very capable of.

Speaker 7 (05:47):
Doing it again this year. I believe also that arch
Manning is the best college football quarterback we have seen
since Tim Tebow entered the scene in two thousand and six.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
Did you hear that? You notice my head flew back?
And I'm just I know he don't believe it. That's
the thing I can't stand the dude. I never met him,
and I hope that if I ever meet him, he
can change my mind. But I'm gonna have a tight
face looking at him when I see him.

Speaker 4 (06:16):
Oh my fa gonna be tight.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
I'm just telling you, when you throw those types of
things in the one thing that people need to truly understand,
because I don't think people really have grasped the fact
that in that game against Ohio State, Arch got his
bell rung.

Speaker 4 (06:37):
Yes, Arch was all we had to make sure.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
We had to put out an apb or Arch because
I don't know if he knew where he was at.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
And he had that garlic parmesan legs, he had them,
he had them pasta legs.

Speaker 4 (06:52):
Yes he got popped, Yes he got smoked.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
All that play and if you go back and you
listen to some of the inner views that he's had.

Speaker 4 (07:01):
He mentioned that. He mentioned that and said that man,
I got hit in that plat.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
So it wasn't a matter of need to make that
decision to switch him out like Nick Saban did. Wasn't
about that, never was about that. The reality of it is, hey,
man Start did what he needed to do to develop
that young man to get him ready for this moment
right now.

Speaker 4 (07:27):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
And you mentioned that he did everything to get him right,
but he did it with enough time that when he
did take the rings, that he wouldn't be out there
blind and clueless. Quarterbacks he put in that spot and
then they never recover, right, agreed. And I was talking

(07:50):
to a gentleman yesterday on the flight out here, and
he's a big Garrett Gilbert fan, and he had mentioned
Garrett Gilbert after that National Championship game he got thrown
into the fire. It was it was a lack of
preparation in the fact that he didn't get a chance
to prepare throughout the season because they were trying to
get Cold McCoy the Heisman Trophy.

Speaker 4 (08:12):
He was trying.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
They were they were not giving up reps for the
backup quarterback. They were bringing them along and then all
of a sudden he got put in the smoke.

Speaker 4 (08:20):
And hey, it was a lot of smoke.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
There's two positions on the field, hards where PTSD affects
you immediately, and it can linger in that quarterback and kicker.

Speaker 1 (08:33):
You can have trauma that can cause you to see
goos or not be accurate, or your depth perception go off,
or you don't have confidence that I can do this,
throw like those two positions. And that's why I was
saying last week. I don't want Arms to run the ball.

Speaker 2 (08:52):
I want him to get a lot of eight yards
and run out of bounds.

Speaker 4 (08:56):
Tell them to get.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
Downslide because we gonna get to see Owen's play if
he tried to run the ball like t Bow.

Speaker 4 (09:04):
T BO was different. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
T BO was Mike allstart with arm and.

Speaker 1 (09:11):
We're not even gonna say that only Mike Allstock with
those arms because he could not throw like that.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
Hey listen, that does bad and can scratch his own shoulder.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
He was huge. Yeah, but to go to what Archer
is doing, Arch is a big dude. I mean, you
don't see many guys six five, two hundred and thirty
pounds twenty five pounds that can run up to twenty
two miles an hour like that's that's an anomaly.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
Yeah, But just because you can do that, don't mean
he should do that.

Speaker 4 (09:45):
Correct. I want him to throw the ball from a clean.

Speaker 1 (09:48):
Pocket, roll out if they get too closed, throw it away.

Speaker 4 (09:53):
Right.

Speaker 3 (09:54):
Your defense is so good that.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
It does not force you to have to go and
win every game in every situation. Because Texas has got
so much talent, there's gonna be some gimme plays accidentally,
wrong coverage, wrong guide, touchdown right, So don't push it,
don't burn it up like play safe. Yeah, you gotta

(10:17):
play safe. And we'll hear a little bit more about
Arch Manning. We'll also hear from We'll also hear from
Peyton Manning. But coming up next, we're gonna talk to
We're gonna hear from Greg McElroy as he gets ready
to talk to coach Sark.

Speaker 4 (10:33):
We got some of that sound.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
We got Danny Davis of the Austin American Statesman coming
up at seven point thirty four. You don't want to
miss today's show because.

Speaker 4 (10:42):
It is Longhorn cent Chick and I.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
Gotta get some rest right here on the Morning Kickoff
on Sports Radio.

Speaker 4 (10:50):
This out.

Speaker 1 (10:54):
Welcome back to the Morning Kickoff right here on Sports
Radio AF thirteen hundred.

Speaker 4 (10:59):
Hey, this is how you boy was rocking last night.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
Refreshed those sunglasses on.

Speaker 1 (11:06):
When it got some water, splash some water on the face,
and got ready to come back here and bring the
action team. Coming up in the next segment, we got
Danny Davis of the Austin American Statesman as he talks
about the Texas Longhorns, as do we And at the
top of the hour, well the last segment of the hour,
we'll hear the names of the players that Dave Campbell's

(11:29):
Texas Football have put on the All Texas Team. And
let's just say there's quite a few Texas Longhorns on there.
Right now, Let's get into this conversation because coach Sark
had an interview with Greg McElroy. Greg McElroy's doing a really,
really good job of interviewing a lot of these coaches,

(11:51):
and he's done this for quite some time now, and
this is his yearly conversation with Coach Sark and Coach
sar who you know, your reflection of your players, right,
and if everybody is on the same page and you
start to understand what the mission is and the swag

(12:12):
and the confidence in which this team rolls with, you
believe that anything is possible.

Speaker 4 (12:18):
And what we've seen over the last few years, we.

Speaker 1 (12:20):
Heard start on Third and Longhorn Podcasts saying with his
chest about how well the team has been playing and
they were the only team to go back to back
in the playoffs, which is outstanding. Now they've got to
get to the finish line. But coach Sart was asked
about Arch and if Arch is ready.

Speaker 8 (12:39):
So much excitement, so much anticipation surrounding Arch Manning naturally,
but what have you seen from him from a professional
standpoint with how he's approached this role, in the expectations
that are on his shoulders.

Speaker 4 (12:52):
When he got here.

Speaker 6 (12:53):
I give him a lot of credit because all he
did was come to work and be a great teammate.
If you didn't know the name on the back of
his jersey, you'd say, man, what a great teammate this
guy is. I don't think that I could have predicted
a better way for this to go, for him to
where he's grown exponentially, not only on the football field,
but but as a leader as a person. I think
he's ready to play now and play at a high level.

(13:15):
And I think he's earned the respect of his teammates.
You know that they know he's not playing because of
the name on the back of his jersey. He's going
to be our starring quarterback because he's earned it, and
and that that he's ready to play, and you can
feel it. You can feel it in spring, but you
definitely can feel it this summer right now, that this
is his team and that he's that he's he's got
the respect of his teammates.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
Mark, I've been saying since last year, these guys they
sound like they're programmed.

Speaker 3 (13:46):
They almost sound like computers.

Speaker 4 (13:49):
And that's that.

Speaker 2 (13:50):
I'm not saying that it sounds protribed or fake. Well,
I'm saying that they're all on the same page. I mean,
you know how good a job it is to get
five or six kids to see things the same way. Nevertheless,
fifty to one hundred, right, Like, whatever coach Sark is doing,

(14:10):
he's got all these guys believing because he's proving it
to him.

Speaker 4 (14:14):
He's laying it. Look you see it. Did I make
it up? No? Then you're gonna listen to that.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
And I think that's that's kind of the trajectory that
they've gone on. Now they got to the top, and
they have to deliver at the top as well. Well,
it's not gonna be a job that's gonna be taken lightly.
It's not a job that is only on arch manning
coach at the conversation also about his running back room,
you know, CJ. Baxter coming back, you got a chance

(14:43):
to see Trey Weisner develop into a superstar. That Coach
Sark was telling us prior to the season that hey,
he's been standing out in all the workouts and then
all he does is go out there and become one
of the top running backs in the country last year.
Now he's gotten You got Christian Clark coming back as well,

(15:03):
so that running back room is pretty dog.

Speaker 4 (15:06):
Alle Good and Coach Sark talked about it.

Speaker 8 (15:08):
How do you feel about kind of the pecking order
that you have sizing up at running back?

Speaker 6 (15:12):
Yeah, I mean it's hard to argue with what Trey
Wisner did last year. And I really felt like the
second half of the season, man, that guy like put
the team on his shoulders in a couple of games,
and he's had a great offseason. I give Trey Wiser
a ton of credit. I think a couple other young
players that people have almost forgot a little bit about.
Jared Gibson has had a great spring and a great slummer,

(15:33):
and he's a guy that had some big plays for
us in some critical games. You know, Michigan came on
when Blue got hurt and played really good football for US.

Speaker 4 (15:41):
Christian Clark is back.

Speaker 6 (15:43):
He was the other guy that got hurt in training
camp when Cedric Baxter got hurt. He had hurt his achilles.
He's had a great spring, a great summer. So those
three guys I'm super pumped about. Obviously, Cedric Baxter's a
wild card.

Speaker 4 (15:55):
When we get.

Speaker 6 (15:56):
Cedric Baxter back one hundred percent healthy, we're going to
be a better team. But again, it's a little bit
of a luxury because I don't feel like I'm gonna
have to force him back to play maybe when he's
not quite ready to go.

Speaker 4 (16:07):
Wow, that's awesome, he said.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
Luxury, And that is a luxury where you have so
much talent that you don't scream for one of your
better players to be back right away and let him
have ample town to heal.

Speaker 4 (16:22):
Right. And the fact too, you know, what CJ.

Speaker 1 (16:25):
Baxter was able to do in his first season was
the reason why everybody was expecting a lot from him
in his second season. And now you've gotten a chance
to really grow that running back room with being able
to have that depth and provide that depth. But that
wasn't the only place that he's really excited about either.

(16:47):
When you start to think about that wide receiver group,
and we've talked about Parker Livingston and some of the
other young guys, and then you also bring back some
top notch players in that wide receiver room.

Speaker 4 (17:00):
Start talked about that as well.

Speaker 8 (17:02):
How do you anticipate kind of spreading the ball around
with the guys that you now have in your receiver.

Speaker 6 (17:07):
Room frontline, three guys I'm super pumped about. I think
Ryan Wingo is a budding star. You know, he didn't
get the opportunities maybe that a couple of the other
freshmen around the country got last year. But when he
got his ops man he made some big time plays
for US in some big games. And he's big, he's physical,
he's fast. DeAndre Moore was a really good player for

(17:29):
US last year and was a really good player for
US at critical moments in big games. And then the
addition of Emmitt Mosley from Stanford. You know, here's a
guy who caught fifty balls as a true freshman in
nine games at Stanford last year. So those three guys
are all relatively young. I feel great about that room.
I don't feel good about it. I feel great about
that room, probably better than most people do on the outside.

(17:51):
That's the beauty of being in the building every day
with these guys and the rapport they.

Speaker 4 (17:55):
Have with Arts.

Speaker 1 (17:57):
Wow, they got that report because Arch went to Saint Louis,
Baby Arch, Arch went to Saint Louis.

Speaker 4 (18:05):
He was over there killing it.

Speaker 2 (18:07):
So I'm gonna tell you I wanted to know what
he ate though, of course I want to know what
was on the plate?

Speaker 4 (18:14):
Did he go barbecue? Did he go chicken? Did he
go fish?

Speaker 7 (18:18):
Like?

Speaker 3 (18:18):
What does Being a Louisiana boy, I figured.

Speaker 4 (18:22):
There's nothing that he hasn't eaten. Yeah, you know so.

Speaker 1 (18:28):
But but the rapport of this offense is why this
Texas football team is expected to do great things.

Speaker 4 (18:36):
But also getting back to what.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
Arch Manning being the conversation piece, being the leader of
this team, waiting his turn and now his big up.
Peyton Manning talked with your guy Pat McAfee about Arch
and what he was able to do.

Speaker 9 (18:56):
Yeah, look, Eli Iris uncles trying to be there as
a resource for him. But you know, Cooper has done
a great job with Arch and they've handled, you know,
all the different things that have kind of come their
way in the right way. And uh, I'm excited to
watch Archs play he's been very patient. I thought he
threw the ball really well at the camp. He and

(19:16):
Garrett dust Meyer and the kind of our three throwing exhibitions, Uh,
really threw the ball well. All the quarterbacks though it. Well,
it's impressive. I mean they make throws that I wouldn't
even think about making. I mean, Archs made the throw
the other day that I didn't need to cut off
man to.

Speaker 4 (19:33):
The actual receiver.

Speaker 9 (19:35):
And nuss Meyer uh uh, Leonoris for South Carolina. I mean,
it's impressive all the way around. But look, he's been patient.
You know, it's been well documented. Uh, the fact that
he's you know, been there two years. I'm such a
believer in mastering the system that you're in and when
you have new coordinators every single year in the NFL
or College that that's just frustrating to me. I was lucky,

(19:58):
you know, Tom Moore, Pat was there my entire fourteen year,
fourteen year career. Belichick gave Brady some different coordinators, Charlie Wise, McDaniels, O'Brien,
but it was the same system.

Speaker 4 (20:09):
Right.

Speaker 9 (20:09):
Nick Saban makes his quarterbacks that our new coordinators learned
his system, so it does Kirby and so the fact
that Sarkesian calls the plays and Arch has been there
two years already, is going to know the system. That's
going to be a huge advantage for him. And I'm
looking forward to seeing him getting out there on the field.
He's worked real hard. I love seeing him going to
that camp for his teammate. That's being a good teammate.

(20:30):
That's being a good wing man. And I'm excited to
get down there and watch a few games this year
in Austin.

Speaker 2 (20:37):
MM to talk about his systems are the ones that
struck me the most with what Peyton really said.

Speaker 4 (20:44):
He said a lot of stuff.

Speaker 1 (20:46):
He's proud of his He's proud of his nephew, absolutely,
but he gave credit to his father.

Speaker 2 (20:52):
Hey, we're here for support. He's got a dad, yep.
And he also touched on the fact that Arch is
an anomaly.

Speaker 4 (21:03):
He said, he threw the ball that I couldn't dream
of throwing.

Speaker 2 (21:07):
And this is this is a Hall of Fame quarterback,
one of the best quarterbacks of all time. Yeah, seeing man,
I'd have to hit the cutoff man to try to
get a bit like that is the thing that I feel.

Speaker 1 (21:21):
Like because he's old now, back in the day though
Peyton used to slang that thing. Hey, he's giving him
some love. He giving him some love. Yeah, he gave
him a lot of love though, no doubt.

Speaker 4 (21:32):
No doubt.

Speaker 1 (21:32):
Coming up next, we got our guy Danny Davis of
the Austin American States. But we'll get his thoughts on Texas,
Longhorse and what does he see happening in the near
future right here on the morning Kickoff on sports Radio
AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Welcome back to the morning
kickoff right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.

Speaker 4 (21:54):
Mad old man, it's.

Speaker 1 (21:55):
Time to get down the business and let's get to
our guy, Danny Davis of the Awesome an American Statesman.
You can follow him at Underscore Danny Davison. Before we
get into the Texas talking, of course, the arch manning
sleep Steaks. I wanted to ask you. You got a
chance to go to the ballpark. You took your son
to his first ballpark. You said it was your twelve

(22:17):
How cool was that to be able to go to
a baseball game with your son and that was your dad, right,
my father in law.

Speaker 4 (22:25):
Okay, but yeah it was great.

Speaker 10 (22:27):
I mean, you have you young kids are all growing
and shooting up like weeds. But you've had kids at
age before and getting to kind of, you know, share
something that you love with him. It's an Austin experience.
And he was a little hesitant to take a lot
to some cotton candy and stand them, and he was
completely sold. So it's just fun to kind of watch
him interact and kind of understand what's going on him.

(22:50):
And he's like force, I mean, even the understand the
nuance and things that I was explained to him and
whatever his head. But he was clapping along and when
everyone else here each yeared and lasted hating.

Speaker 4 (23:01):
So it was.

Speaker 10 (23:03):
I had seven, so we got the over. So it's
pretty happy with how how it all went.

Speaker 2 (23:07):
That feels so good to be able to go have
those experiences. Uh is there any other sport that he's
gravitated to?

Speaker 10 (23:17):
I mean, he loves soccer, which I'm sure a lot
of four year olds do, and he's uh, he loves
he loves running. He's a very he's a very competitive
little kid. He's kind of jerk about it. But uh
we uh you know, I think maybe I'm gonna be
able to live by curiously through him at some point.

Speaker 4 (23:35):
Maybe he gets his athletics teams with his mother or
not from me.

Speaker 10 (23:38):
So I think we're going to have a long, long
line of athletic events in his future now, which I'm
looking forward to.

Speaker 2 (23:44):
Skills, skills, skills, that's all we about right now.

Speaker 1 (23:49):
So speaking of an athletic family and where these people
get their athleticism, we can go right into the arch
Manning conversation. Obviously he's getting a lot of high We
played Paul a fine bomb.

Speaker 4 (24:00):
We heard start talking to Greg McElroy.

Speaker 1 (24:04):
And you've covered football for a long time, You've you've
been around the game. You understand it is this too
much too soon in this particular moment. I know you
you're more of a wait and see type of guy,
but in this particular moment, and you're starting to hear
this name, Heisman Trophy, h sitting in the front row,
and it's like, can he play some real football here?

Speaker 4 (24:26):
And before we crown him?

Speaker 10 (24:30):
This particular moment is twenty twenty five, and that's just
what the media landscape is. I think we got to
you know, de bell is the quarterback right now. I
don't think it'd be our Tanning level hype, but it'd
still be a lot of discussion about him, a lot
of discussion about his father. You know, there'd be a
lot of high of you know, someone who's get to
you know, take take a snap, take a sap at

(24:52):
the college level, very high school quarterback who can probably
do a lot of good things, a senior, his senioror
But I think it's being the universe. Texas has been
a twenty four seven news cycles, being four thousand websites,
I covered Texas and a much of other entities that's
you know, swoop in every now and then.

Speaker 4 (25:08):
I just think this is kind of what it is.

Speaker 10 (25:10):
I mean, Quinn came in pretty twining transfers from Ohio State.
I mean that wasn't He did not arrive quietly. It
may not have been to.

Speaker 4 (25:17):
This arch level because Arch has been in empisophere a
couple of years.

Speaker 10 (25:20):
Fans have just been waiting for this, But Quinn had
any of before he got addressing That's what happens to me.
You're the quarterback of the University of Texas, and unfortunately
there's a lot of time to kill for between the
one season the beginning of another, and so that just
gives us a lot of time to talk about about
Arch before he actually gets to uh be TB one.

(25:40):
So it's just a landscape and we've just got to
deal with it and we kind of benefit from it.
We're talking about it now, we've written of stories about
it over at the State dot com.

Speaker 4 (25:50):
So it just kind of is what it is. Yeah,
it's kind of funny to me because go ahead, go ahead.

Speaker 2 (25:57):
It's a little crazy, though, Danny to be mentioned in
Tim Tebow and Vince Young, like, it's it's a little early,
and and I respect, I respect the gangster.

Speaker 3 (26:06):
But Tebow two championships, like come on.

Speaker 10 (26:13):
Of course, of course it's early. I mean it's it's
too early to say is better than Quinn let alone,
let alone, vicked or obviously obviously Tim, who's going, you know,
one of the greatest quarterbacks and collegeball history. It's it's
too early to say Arch is a shoeing to go
to New York. I mean, I would love that. I'd
love a free trip on my company's dives to New York.

(26:35):
My wife would really love a trip in New York.
But you know, we're not buying yet. It's it's too early.
You know, there's a lot of things can happen Arch
definitely live up to the high. He could be as advertised.
He could also struggle as a first time starter, and
we could be reminded White Quinn was actually starting over
over our last year.

Speaker 4 (26:52):
I mean, he could you know.

Speaker 10 (26:54):
There's a possibility he's just flames out as not it's
not good.

Speaker 4 (26:58):
I don't think a lot of people expect that. But
there's that possibilities.

Speaker 10 (27:00):
But it's too early to say he's going to be
a bust as the Texas haters like to say and
say he's only you know goodness because of this last time.
It's too early to put him into college Football Hall
of Fame. I mean Arch is going to get his
opportunity to prove himself. That's going to happen in August months.
I'll have campus and going forward. It's just we have
to wait for that to happen. But I guess you know,

(27:22):
this is given utuff to talk about in July because
if Arch was I getting this, uh, I claim maybe
talking more about my child playing soccer.

Speaker 1 (27:29):
So what's up to Danny Davis of the Austin American
States mean you can follow him at Underscore Danny Davis,
and that way you can get a lot of those
articles that he's talking about that has been written over there,
but I wanted to go over to the defensive side
of the ball. Obviously, the names that are getting a
lot of love and that got recognized as preseason All

(27:50):
Americans is Anthony Hill and Colin Colin Simmons. But Michael
Chapp being on that back end and being able to
be a guy that has shown up and shown out
on the University of Texas and seems to.

Speaker 4 (28:03):
Get better and better every year.

Speaker 1 (28:05):
How important is he going to be with the calming
background of Michael Tapp to keep everybody lined up where
they need to be.

Speaker 10 (28:14):
I mean, and he's been to a Texas media availability
kind of knows Michael Tadpole's court of those. So obviously
he's going to remain the voice of this Texas defense.
We expect to see him every Monday, we expect to
see him after post. But now he's also the voice
on the field, and we don't have a job a
bear and there anymore. You know, some of those older
guys who came before Michael session in the back end

(28:34):
there not anymore. So, I mean, this is Michael's you know,
it's gonna be his job to tutor the younger guy
to his job, to be the guy that's you know,
looked upon, and you know, certainly someone who has his
story who went from you know, obviously the walk on
we all know the story to becoming an All American.

Speaker 4 (28:52):
I mean that command respect.

Speaker 10 (28:53):
So I believe he has respect of his teammates, both
for his on play abilities and also for his off
the field leadership stuff.

Speaker 4 (29:00):
And now it's gonna get his job. Just kind of
put that all together.

Speaker 10 (29:03):
Lead the back end of this defense and collaborate with
Anthony Hill Calms. All three levels are working together, and
we'll see what we what he can do, maybe make
sure he doesn't get tossed out of any games for
the argument penalty. So that's sure there as a state
fans would have loved in that in the beat Bolt.
But obviously his place for hit itself and this man

(29:25):
he is and leader is just shown itself the last
few years. So I don't have any problem with the leadership.
I don't have any questions about his play. Now it's
just time for him to get to work. There's gonna
be two number sixteens. We lost sixteeners into crafts. People
love arts, but people also love my tap, So we'll
see a lot of six teams out there.

Speaker 2 (29:43):
Danny, I'm always subscribe to the theory of being optimist,
but can let's let's look at something from a pessimistic
standpoint for a second. What is the thing that you
can poke your finger at and say, I don't know
if that's good enough.

Speaker 10 (30:02):
I returned skill players? Does this team have I mean
he returned to offensive lineman. Does this team have I
mean you figure that obviously, Texas recrus talent. There's a
lot of talent on this roster. And this is college football,
and roster's overturn every off season. But you know, this
is still a pretty improven team. You have an unproven quarterback,
you have unproven wide receivers. You know, you have an

(30:24):
unproven you know the running back rooms all right? You
know gun Travian's coming off a thousand years and then
CJ is going badly expect him to be.

Speaker 4 (30:30):
But he's also come on injury.

Speaker 10 (30:32):
So the offensive line for new starters on that offensive
line has the offensive line look, although they do have
some talent, and you know, this is a program that
develops offensive linemen. They bring him as freshman development until
they're ready to play, and that's worked for Tectas in
the past, but it doesn't work this year. So there's
a lot there's a lot of turno around this team.
There's a lot of newcomers. There's a lot of guys

(30:53):
being asked to step up.

Speaker 4 (30:54):
Doesn't happen.

Speaker 10 (30:55):
You know, this is a team that's gonna be expected
to winning now championship if they're not number one off preseases.

Speaker 4 (31:01):
And polls and the number two. But there's just a
lot of questions on this team.

Speaker 10 (31:04):
I mean, there's there's a path for this season not
to go on just to miss the miss the playoffs,
not just because of inexperience, but he expect this coaching staff,
which has a lot of continuity to it, to continue
to develop these guys and these guys ready to play.
And this is the University of Texas. You're out here
unless you can. So we'll see these.

Speaker 4 (31:22):
Guys can these guys can get it done.

Speaker 1 (31:24):
To share with with their roles, no doubt, no doubt.
There he is Danny Davis of the Austin American Statesman.
You can follow them at Underscore Danny Davis, Danny as
always man, We appreciate you.

Speaker 4 (31:34):
And want to talk to you soon. See y'all later.

Speaker 1 (31:37):
All right, when we come back, we're gonna see what
they talked about at the Dave Campbell's Texas Football and
how the Texas football team was represented right here all
the morning kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred, great stuff,
bark by God Danny Davis of the Austin American Statesman.

(31:58):
You can also follow them underscore. Danny Davis coming up
at the top of the hour. We'll talk NFC East
in the expectations of everything that's going on the over
unders And I am with my cousin out here, so
there might be some wagers in Las Vegas, but I
wanted to get in a conversation about Dave Campbell's Texas Football. Obviously,

(32:22):
Dave Campbell's Texas Football is one of the best football
magazines in the state. No one doesn't like them, covering
the state of Texas from High D one to D
three and Independence and everybody else that is involved with that.
So they do a great job. Get your name into
Dave Campbell's Texas Football. You remember, Mark, when you were younger,
you wanted to make sure your name was up in there.

(32:44):
And I tried to mine was in there players to watch?
You know what I'm saying, You wanted to be the
player to watch. Speaking up players to watch for the
Texas Longhorns. They broke them down in first team and
second team, and on the first team offense, obviously the
man of the hour, Manning of the hour is Arch Manning.

Speaker 4 (33:03):
He is the first team quarterback.

Speaker 1 (33:06):
DJ Campbell is on the first team on the offensive line,
uh CJ. Baxter's on the second team, and Trevor Gooseby
is on the second team as well. But then you
get over to that defensive side of the ball, and
as always you know there are some monsters over there.
On that first team. You have Colin Simmons, Anthony Hill junior,

(33:29):
Malik Muhammad, who I am a huge, huge fan of
Malik Muhammad, and you also have Michael taff on the
defensive side as the leader. You also have Mason Shipley,
the new kicker for the University of Texas to make

(33:50):
that he comes in from from Texas State right up
the road at Liberty Hill as well. So it's an
exciting time for all these Texas Longhorm football all players
as they get their names called and mentioned in Dave
Campbell's Texas Football. If you got somebody else you could
add to that list, who would you put on their mark?

Speaker 3 (34:11):
I mean I would put Goosby higher than that.

Speaker 2 (34:14):
I mean he went against the top defensive player in
the SEC at Georgia and blocked him pretty consistent. Yeah,
I mean like he got he got one. But he's
the best number the guy got drafted in top ten.

Speaker 1 (34:32):
Yep, you only get one play against gooseb.

Speaker 4 (34:36):
That's that's pretty doing good, no no doubt about it.

Speaker 1 (34:40):
And the one thing that I wanted to mention too
and I forgot is DeAndre Moore is on there as
the wide receiver, which you know, it's a little bit
interesting to me that we did not somehow some way
have a player, you know, Ryan Wingo or something like
that to be all that.

Speaker 4 (34:58):
But I guess it is what Moore had a better year.
I guess you would.

Speaker 2 (35:03):
Say, yeah, and he had that injury time, so he
was gone for a minute. So you try to give
the love to the guy that did the most work,
and the guy that got the most work ended up
being the guy that got the most love.

Speaker 4 (35:20):
So yeah, no, no doubt, no doubt.

Speaker 1 (35:23):
And there's probably some other guys that will will find
a way to get themselves recognized throughout the season.

Speaker 4 (35:30):
It is the preseason.

Speaker 1 (35:33):
All all Texas teams, so you start looking at some
of the other stuff and you'll see some guys that
might make it on there by the end of the season.

Speaker 3 (35:42):
This is the list that makes guys mad.

Speaker 2 (35:44):
This is like parget I mean, I didn't make All
District first team, and I was.

Speaker 3 (35:52):
So mad because I knew the other guy.

Speaker 2 (35:55):
I knew the guy that was ranked in front of me,
and he wouldn't me, and I was mad about it.
But I missed three games, so statistics were lord in his.

Speaker 3 (36:09):
But he know who was the guy?

Speaker 4 (36:13):
You calling him out? Right now? Are you calling out?

Speaker 1 (36:20):
I'm still better all accomplishment God gave me in my life.
I feel real pity right now. That has to be
the pettiest. My man is mad. My man is mad.
From thirty five years ago, forty years.

Speaker 3 (36:39):
I didn't know that to that. I feel much better
now now that you got that off your chest.

Speaker 4 (36:45):
Yeah, I know that ain't what I think it is
who I feel.

Speaker 1 (36:49):
That that's what happened when he rolled up. I know
that ain't who I think it is. No, he ain't
trying to roll up on me. Talk about Hey man,
y'all remember when I got first seam audition.

Speaker 4 (37:00):
Hey man, let's call Buddha.

Speaker 5 (37:01):
Man.

Speaker 1 (37:02):
I gotta call my guy in Houston one of these days.
Man like man, you know you shouldn't have been in
You shouldn't have been first team. All of this.

Speaker 4 (37:11):
That's some games. Miss game. Yeah, Maris jack Bet some
other some other names that are on there.

Speaker 1 (37:23):
A couple of guys from Texas A and M Trey
Zuone and uh Armja Reed Adams he's on there. A
guy from Logan Park, former Texas Longhorn is on there.
He's now at SMU, so he gets the nod. There,
some Texas Tech players, but you got Lincoln Parr from

(37:43):
Texas State who is now part of the Pac twelve.
Got to give them some respect on their name. Got
tight End from U T s A. Houston Thomas, he's
done a really good job.

Speaker 4 (37:54):
PJ.

Speaker 1 (37:55):
Williams from s m U he's on there as well.
And a guy from UTEP Cam Thomas. He goes down
as a utility utility player.

Speaker 4 (38:08):
So it'll be it's gonna be an interesting season.

Speaker 1 (38:11):
And obviously with these names and these players that are
on their big name that is on there. Torian York,
Toriyan York is also on that list. He's one hell
of a football player as well. Our number one is
in the books. Our number two is just around the corner,
and we're gonna turn up the volume a little bit.

Speaker 4 (38:33):
Your boys in Vegas. I'm starting to give my second
win Ah a watch out right here.

Speaker 1 (38:38):
On the morning kickoff on sports Radio and thirteen hundred
The Zone.

Speaker 4 (38:43):
Welcome back to our number.

Speaker 1 (38:44):
Two of the morening kickoff right here on sports Radio
AM thirteen hundred the Zone, and our number one it
was arch Mania.

Speaker 4 (38:52):
That's right.

Speaker 1 (38:52):
We talked a lot about Arch manning the expectations. Whether
it was Paul finebaumb sounding like he was on that
drain and hanging out with me last night, or he
was sitting over there just trying to get everybody to
understand that Arch is really that talented. We talked to
Danny Davis of the Austin American Statesman, and we just

(39:13):
gave you Dave Campbell's All Texas football team that had
a ton of Texas Longhorns on it. Before we get
into the Dallas Cowboys and the NFC East, I want
to make sure you get a chance to win a
pair of tickets to go see Laney Wilson. That's right,
Laney Wilson, September the eighteenth at the Moody Center.

Speaker 4 (39:32):
All you have to do is get over to.

Speaker 1 (39:34):
That iHeartRadio app where it's always free, by the way,
tap that red microphone right there at AM thirteen hundred
to zone, and leave the keyword nose dive. Nose dive
is the keyword of the day for a chance to
win a pair of tickets to go see Laney Wilson
September the eighteenth at the Moody Center.

Speaker 4 (39:55):
Mark.

Speaker 1 (39:55):
We obviously talked a lot about the Dallas Cowboys, the expectations,
and and we've had those conversations. But right now I
want to get all the way into the Nfceast. A
lot has changed within the NFC East, a lot of moving,
a lot of shaking, a lot of quarterbacks making moves,
and of course you go and get some playmakers on

(40:17):
the outside as a wide receiver, you also get some
on the defensive side of the ball. So, in no
particular order, I'm gonna start with the Super Bowl champs.
The Super Bowl Champs have obviously upgraded as always, somehow,
some way they seem to get better. And one of
the best players that they stole in the draft because

(40:38):
other people got caught slipping it has been Andrew mccuba.
Mccouba from the University of Texas has been getting a
lot of praise from a lot of people. I saw
an interviewed the other day with Devonte Smith talking about
how mccuba has impressed him the most since the draft
and his work ethic and let's not forget to do

(40:58):
will come downhill and pop you too.

Speaker 4 (41:01):
For a guy that's kind of slight.

Speaker 1 (41:03):
They are sitting at eleven and a half wins right now.

Speaker 4 (41:08):
Eleven and a half. I can't argue.

Speaker 2 (41:11):
I just know they're gonna get one loss from those
Cowboys two two.

Speaker 1 (41:17):
So long as Dak is healthy. As long as Dak
is healthy, we're gonna sweep. No, I'm just kidding. I'm
just kidding. Calm down, bro, calm down. I ain't losing
my mind just yet.

Speaker 2 (41:26):
Man, my chin just hit the ground. Don't get me
gassed up. You know how easy it is.

Speaker 4 (41:33):
I know, I know. So let me ask you this.

Speaker 1 (41:36):
Are you saying they're gonna win more than eleven and
a half games. They're gonna win twelve games, or they're
gonna win eleven games.

Speaker 4 (41:42):
I think they'll win eleven. I mean.

Speaker 2 (41:47):
Eleven or twelve? Is I need to know? Oh brother,
it's eleven and a half. I'm gonna say over then, Okay,
I just know they're gonna lose the first game of
the season.

Speaker 4 (42:00):
Yeah, because they're playing the Cowboys. That's how that works.

Speaker 2 (42:04):
Until you beat Dak, just like we always say, until
you dominate Mahomes, then I can't give you the night
over him. But Dak has man that got a really
really strong record against the Eagles.

Speaker 4 (42:18):
I think he's nine to four against the.

Speaker 2 (42:21):
Yeah, like how you go against the odds like that,
that's a dramatic odds lift.

Speaker 1 (42:27):
I'm gonna pick the under. I'm gonna say they're gonna
be right at eleven. Ano that they're talented.

Speaker 4 (42:32):
I know that.

Speaker 1 (42:33):
I just gave you some names on that defense. Obviously
that defense plays so well. But you are replacing Darius Slay.
We talked a little bit about him yesterday going to
Pittsburgh Steeler and CJ.

Speaker 4 (42:45):
Gardner Johnson.

Speaker 1 (42:46):
I think he's in h town if I'm not mistaken,
So there's some moves that have been made that are
going to have to step up if you're a Philadelphia Eagles.
But I'm gonna take eleven wins for them. The Giants.
The Giants, they they've done a lot on their team
as well. The pass rush has gotten a lot better.

(43:07):
You you start looking with Dexter Lawrence, who's gonna be
He's mad because the Cowboys got rid of him. And
it's amazing how every time a Cowboy leaves, he goes
to a team within the division, so he could play
the Cowboys and that's what Dexter.

Speaker 4 (43:20):
Lawrence was able to do.

Speaker 1 (43:22):
Uh, Brian Burns is one hell of a football player
and Thiboda he's getting himself ready to go as well.
But then you also bring in the fact that you
got Russell Wilson as your starting quarterback. He is somebody
that is a born leader and regardless of what people think.
They can call him corny, they can call them all
these different things, but one thing he does is compete

(43:43):
every single day.

Speaker 2 (43:44):
And they also have somebody that I was real high
on that I feel like, sometimes you just need some
football players and they've got Scataboo.

Speaker 1 (43:53):
And he go with the Scataboo right up, Yeah, yeah, yeah,
what's sick? You want to Hey, you want me put
a little money out here for you to make him
the rookie the other year at the MVP of the
league too.

Speaker 4 (44:06):
Let me do that.

Speaker 1 (44:08):
You want to Russia too, and you're gonna be like
Roger Craig.

Speaker 2 (44:12):
You get out there in Las Vegas, get a little scratch,
you know, stay up till the wee hours of the
sun coming up, and now you want a clown.

Speaker 3 (44:22):
Okay, okay, Hodge.

Speaker 4 (44:26):
I know how much you love Scatterbooy.

Speaker 1 (44:28):
You've been talking about him since we watched him play
last year.

Speaker 2 (44:31):
Well, I'm telling you I didn't. I didn't see an answer.
His contact balances tom Rathman.

Speaker 4 (44:39):
Esque.

Speaker 2 (44:40):
I don't know if y'all remember Tom Rathman or Mike
Austard or Drone Bettters.

Speaker 4 (44:45):
Like those guys when.

Speaker 2 (44:46):
They hit you, they didn't stop moving forward, and they
can spin off you. They can jump, cut off you
like you don't see big guys able to do.

Speaker 4 (44:54):
That very often.

Speaker 1 (44:56):
Right. We used to live Barbers so much when he
played with the Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (45:02):
He's like that guy. It's just hard.

Speaker 1 (45:05):
I'm not Larry Sinners that played so long for Philly,
I mean a Phoenix. Yeah, Like they're a hardcore guy.
They're just gonna get theirs. And even at Boston by
the way, Stephen F. Austin where Larry Senters went to college. Yeah, man,
that guy. I respect Scattaboy's game. So what you got them?
Winning the East? Now, Old Brothers five and a half

(45:28):
the Giants, I.

Speaker 4 (45:30):
Give him six wins, all right, So Mark's taking the over.

Speaker 1 (45:37):
Uh, the Washington Commanders, Washington Commanders, this is a team
that they're nine and a half wins.

Speaker 4 (45:44):
Nine and a half's taking that off the rip.

Speaker 1 (45:48):
Huh.

Speaker 2 (45:48):
Yeah, man, I'm taking that. They won't go under ten
wins for the next three to four years, as long
as they got their quarterback.

Speaker 1 (45:58):
Yeah, I'm gonna have to take the over on that
one as well. They're too good. They and you know,
everybody keeps talking about the sophomore slump and what the
expectations are. So if we are looking at it, this
will be the Eagles will have I said right out,
eleven wins.

Speaker 4 (46:14):
You said the over, so we'll put them at twelve.

Speaker 1 (46:17):
You said that the over will be for the Giants,
so we'll put them at six. Commanders are going to
be at ten. So you look at this, the Cowboys
are seven and a half wins. Seven and a half wins, ridiculous. Yeah,
I'm all over that, and I will go down there
and talk to them people and try to put that

(46:37):
on there.

Speaker 4 (46:38):
Right now, I'm taking that over for sure.

Speaker 3 (46:41):
Hey, I'm gonna I'm gonna venmo you.

Speaker 4 (46:45):
One hundred bucks. Put one hundred bucks.

Speaker 1 (46:48):
Hey, this is this is just for entertainment purposes, trying
to you holding us responsible for your illegitimate stuff.

Speaker 4 (46:58):
I'm not part of that. I do not.

Speaker 1 (47:00):
Hey, call one a hundred gambler. Put it on his account,
called one hundred gambler. If you got an issue, be
calling us at the station like we did it. Yeah,
like exactly. So you got Jayden Blue overshown his back.
George Pickens is gonna be h a clutch. Clutch part

(47:22):
of what's going to happen. They've already forged a bond.
You start to look at a new coach and I
know everybody's making front of the coach man. Everybody's making
fun of Schottenheimer. You're a shoddy guy. Now I'm converted. Yeah, yeah,
So for me, I'm taking it over all day and
twice on Sunday.

Speaker 4 (47:42):
Because it's eight wins.

Speaker 1 (47:44):
You're gonna tell me that the Dallas Cowboys are not
going to get eight Winscott, get out of here, thank you.
I mean, I know everybody wants to hate on DAK.
It goes back to what I was saying earlier about
Russ Rusk is going to win you some ball games,
and so will that. That will definitely win you some
ball game. So I am looking at that as a

(48:06):
whole another another way. So we got over on the Cowboys,
you got over on the Eagles are gonna be The
Eagles are eleven and a half wins, Bro, The Eagles
are gonna be number one. They're gonna win the East.
Washington and Dallas are both gonna have ten wins and

(48:30):
the Jants will get six.

Speaker 4 (48:33):
Man, we're gonna have a We're gonna have a decent
uh again. We're gonna have a decent NFC East again.

Speaker 1 (48:40):
I like that, Mark, I like the way they get
the Eagles are the Eagles, the Commanders and the Cowboys.

Speaker 2 (48:46):
They're gonna suffer from the eating at each other syndrome
when it comes to uh, who gets in the playoffs
and who's gonna be a wild card. They're gonna they're
gonna knock some teams off. Yeah, everybody that comes in
and plays the East in trouble.

Speaker 1 (49:03):
Yeah, I need to It's it's going to be it's
going to be an interesting look, especially because of all
the changes. And this is the one of those deals
where you look at the Giants. Uh, is this Brian
day Ball and Joe Shane is just their last opportunity?

Speaker 4 (49:20):
Are they on the Mike Tomlin watch?

Speaker 1 (49:24):
Not with as much credit as Mike Tomlin obviously, but
the fact that you're you're resting on this quarterback in
Russ Wilson, that you're hopeful we'll be able to lead
this team in the right direction.

Speaker 4 (49:36):
So we shall see, we'll seek Huh.

Speaker 1 (49:40):
I said, what a take. I think that that's valid.
That got That's what I do.

Speaker 4 (49:47):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (49:48):
I didn't want to take a gimmick, but sometimes sometimes
sometimes the gimmick just comes out. That you're doing that
from Las Vegas, because if you were sitting right there
in that chair, I'll be hugging you right now when
we come back. What in the world is happening in Indiana?
And more importantly, is Janna staying in Milwaukee. We'll talk

(50:12):
about it right here on the Morning Kickoff on Sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred is all.

Speaker 4 (50:17):
Welcome back to the Morning Kickoff.

Speaker 1 (50:19):
Right here on the way back Wednesday edition of the
Morning Kickoff right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
is on Mike Harball or World Strongest Man.

Speaker 4 (50:27):
W w E.

Speaker 1 (50:28):
That's right, Mark, Henry, Mark, what's coming up in your
World's Strongest Tech?

Speaker 2 (50:32):
My brother man, I'm a little disappointed in the world
of women's basketball, the WNBA.

Speaker 3 (50:40):
And I'm not being bitter because Austin is not getting
the team.

Speaker 4 (50:44):
That's not it. I'm just.

Speaker 1 (50:48):
People are uninformed and they need to watch what they say.

Speaker 4 (50:52):
All right, that's coming up in the next segment.

Speaker 1 (50:54):
And so he Hey, let me just tell you he
is passionate about this because he he gets a little
fired up when it comes to this situation.

Speaker 2 (51:04):
Yeah, I changed my tape because I had something print
plan and but this just burns me and it's forcing me.

Speaker 4 (51:13):
I'm compelled to do it.

Speaker 3 (51:15):
The smoke was popping off his head during the break.

Speaker 4 (51:18):
Yeah, well we will.

Speaker 1 (51:19):
We will definitely talk about it when we come back
in the next segment, But right now, we're gonna go
to the NBA. There was news that came out of
the NBA yesterday that an integral part of the success
that one team had, the Indiana Pacers, decided.

Speaker 4 (51:36):
To let a player walk in Miles Turner.

Speaker 1 (51:40):
And not only did he let him walk, there was
something that went on in Milwaukee that was the reason
why Miles was able to go.

Speaker 4 (51:50):
And now the NBA world is upside down.

Speaker 11 (51:53):
I'm if I'm I mean he had a pacer right now,
I'm absolutely disgusted.

Speaker 3 (51:59):
I am hip to my stomach.

Speaker 11 (52:01):
If I'm Tyrese Halliburton, I am breaking things right now.
If I'm Rick Carlisle, I'm furious. It's just what's happened
because they were unwilling to spend a little bit of
luxury tax money to hold this team in place for
a year. When Halliburton came back to go to a
team that they hate, they hate the Bucks. So it's

(52:21):
going to take a while to digest this. And if
Giannis tweets later today a big smiling emoji and indicates
that he is happy as a clam, the Bucks can
declare a win.

Speaker 4 (52:33):
But I'm not.

Speaker 11 (52:34):
Sure the balance of power was changed in the Eastern Conference.
Even though This has been a stunning turn of events.

Speaker 1 (52:40):
And what that mean by that is they have now
let Myles turn Or go to the Milwaukee Bucks and
didn't try to resign them, didn't try to hold that
team together. That was in a game, Steven, you were
in game seven.

Speaker 4 (52:57):
You got to the final game.

Speaker 1 (52:59):
Of the season, render take off, and unfortunately there was
an injury that happened, but you were right there. And
now you're just pretty much letting your main guy walk.

Speaker 2 (53:12):
But do you go out and try to find somebody
that you feel like can service you better with what
you have a more of.

Speaker 3 (53:20):
A defensive threat than an offensive threat.

Speaker 1 (53:23):
And down the stretch in the last two games that
Oklahoma City and Indiana played, Miles Turnam made big, crucial mistakes.
And I hate for the all of blame to go
on one person, but they might feel like they're better
service with them shooting more outside rather than Miles Turner
shooting the amount of numbers he shot from the outside

(53:46):
with the lower percentage. And you go to a guy
inside that can do what he does and maybe even
better than he did it inside.

Speaker 4 (53:57):
What do you think about that? I know, I mean,
are you robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Speaker 2 (54:04):
I mean, like you're definitely robbing Peter to pay Paul
in this situation. Yeah, you're you're creating a money because
Nate Smith, like, you're gonna want to keep him mattering.
You're gonna want to keep that like down like two
years down the road. Those guys are gone, they're playing
for somebody else. If you still have Miles Turner on

(54:25):
your count on your team for the amount of money
that he got, which was on par with what his
position for a starter in the NBA, but who do
you want to keep the oldest player in your teams
on your team? Are the two younger players that are

(54:48):
the most effective two of them?

Speaker 1 (54:51):
Well, so you guess that's where That's where it's going
to be interesting to see how it all plays out,
because eventually you're gonna end up looking at this team
and you're gonna be missing Miles Turner because he was
a guy that maybe late in the season, maybe it
was a matchup problem for him that he didn't play
that well. But okay, see uh they know okay, see

(55:15):
knew what they were doing, and it could it could
be something that could play off of it. Right, So
now you're looking at it and you're saying, Okay, I'm
gonna let him go. I'm gonna let him go to
the other team that's in our division that I'm gonna.

Speaker 4 (55:27):
Have to go against to get to the finals.

Speaker 1 (55:30):
Because Giannis, if he's excited to be there, because rumor
is that he was not happy when Dame Lillard was
let go wave at that particular moment. But Dame Lillard
is somebody that is that he's hurt all the time. Well,
we're gonna talk about that any you mean, we're doing
it right now talking about I'm gonna tell you like this,
I think that was the best thing because you know,

(55:53):
you thought that it was gonna work, but his body
just didn't hold up. And now with him being gone
for the next he's getting the Bobby Barnia.

Speaker 2 (56:01):
Treatment for the next five years. He'll get twenty five
million dollars. I don't feel sorry for him, not at all.

Speaker 1 (56:12):
And rather than forty seven million going against the cap,
now you're gonna have like twenty six million go against
your cap, so now you can actually help your team,
Like this is a win for Yannis. This was the

(56:32):
best case scenario because if you keep him, he's basically
Jason Tatum. He's basically Tyrese Halliburton.

Speaker 2 (56:43):
They're not gonna play next season, so you're gonna put
Giannis in a place where all he gives his mouth turner.

Speaker 4 (56:51):
That's not enough. They needed the money.

Speaker 2 (56:54):
They're gonna have to make some changes, and Yannis is
not guaranteed to stay there, y'all.

Speaker 1 (57:00):
I'm gonna tell you right now, he is not happy.
And you know what, what could be brewing. What could
be brewing is Lebron James going to Yeah, they're gonna
have to trade these.

Speaker 4 (57:14):
Guys, Lebron James going to Milwaukee.

Speaker 2 (57:19):
Milwaukee, Cleveland, Chicago, New York are very interested in Lebron James.

Speaker 4 (57:28):
I'm not my report. I'm just reporting the news. Are you?
Are you? Are you? The new wo'se bomb.

Speaker 2 (57:34):
I'm stealing. I'm stealing a copy in the chimn I'm
rhyming and stealing like the Beastie Boys.

Speaker 1 (57:43):
If Lebron James goes to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Speaker 4 (57:48):
The NBA that that town, I would ask them.

Speaker 2 (57:52):
You told I would own some percentage of the team
if I did you that favor, if I gave if
I gave you Yiannis as a parting gift, from the
Lakers and you do a science Joanna's gonna play at
a high level for the next five or six years.

Speaker 4 (58:08):
I have no doubt about what Jannis is going to do.

Speaker 1 (58:11):
But you imagine Yanna's playing with Luca. Oh so now
hold up, hold up. So you're saying Trey, Lebron, James
for Jannis out to Takubo, everybody, they're gonna be playing
together on the same team.

Speaker 3 (58:25):
I don't think Milwaukee's gonna be down for that.

Speaker 2 (58:28):
Milwaukee is in a place where they're gonna get nothing.

Speaker 5 (58:32):
Yeah, but I think they're gonna get him nothing that
is basically nothing.

Speaker 4 (58:36):
Lebron is not gonna be there that long Listen.

Speaker 2 (58:40):
Janni's has not came out and said it, but he
and Lebron have the same power. I want to be traded,
I'll sign off, yeah.

Speaker 3 (58:50):
But not they're not gonna trade him for Lebron.

Speaker 1 (58:54):
Even if you got to get some other team, you
got to get some other stuff involved in that. I'm
as good as Lebron is, he is not going to
be the guy to go and do that at this
stage in his career.

Speaker 4 (59:06):
Number One, you go go from l A to Milwaukee.

Speaker 5 (59:10):
Let's not forget has no trade clause.

Speaker 4 (59:14):
Yeah right, yeah, I don't see I don't see any
of that. But but where would you your point?

Speaker 1 (59:24):
To your point, they have to go get somebody that's
a shooter to offset what everybody else is doing. You
have you have Giannie who's going to be able to
go for whatever he wants. You got Miles Turner who's
gonna be able to help him a little bit on
the inside. You got rid of Brook Lopez because Lopez
is a lot older than Miles Turner, but you're also

(59:45):
getting rid of.

Speaker 4 (59:46):
Of Dame Lillard.

Speaker 1 (59:48):
So now you have to find a complimentary piece that
can go and help with Giannis because that's where the
alternate scoring was.

Speaker 4 (59:58):
So we'll see. But since we're talking, by the way,
say what.

Speaker 2 (01:00:04):
Milwaukee Buck start getting players back that they lost last year.

Speaker 4 (01:00:08):
Yeah, we'll see what ends up happening.

Speaker 1 (01:00:10):
It's an interesting take about that Lebron tain't that playoff.
We'll we'll follow up on that. The Woldes bomb coming
up next. We got that guy World's Strongest Man bringing
you his World's Strongest take. And if you're driving around,
make sure you put your seatbelt on because my.

Speaker 4 (01:00:26):
Man is on one today.

Speaker 1 (01:00:28):
Right here on the morning kickoff on Sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred. You heard that beat drop. You know what
that means. That means you gotta get an IV. Oh
my man, that means WWE Hall of Famer and the
World's Strongest Man, d Mark Henry brings you his world's

(01:00:51):
strongest take.

Speaker 4 (01:00:52):
Take it away, big fella, arg yes, her, you know
what timing is. We're talking about it. It's time for
the world's strongest.

Speaker 2 (01:01:01):
Take by the world's strongest man. I'm the mad rapper today.
Turn me upsidn turn my microphone up? Sign because y'all
need to hear this. Okay, I'm joking.

Speaker 1 (01:01:15):
Turn it down, Marcus Marcus. Back then they didn't want me.
Now I'm hot, they all on me, guys.

Speaker 4 (01:01:25):
I'm mad.

Speaker 2 (01:01:26):
I feel I feel like that there's a lot of people,
not just in women's sports, but in all of sports
that are talking out of turn. There are people that
are making comments about stuff they don't know about that
they based it off their feelings and in one guard

(01:01:49):
Sophie Cunningham from the Indiana Fever, uh Caitlin Clark's teammate
for y'all that you know that don't know who.

Speaker 4 (01:01:58):
She is.

Speaker 3 (01:02:01):
A good player, a tough player.

Speaker 2 (01:02:03):
But she comes out yesterday and makes a comment about
the expansion of the w n b A when she
doesn't really understand one the economic side of it, and
she doesn't understand that there the markets that the that

(01:02:25):
the new teams would be in are heavy, heavily sports
market teams. You Cleveland, Detroit, of course, Philadelphia would be new.
But being a guy that wrestled at the ECW Arena,
they're sports community of Sportstown, and she wanted, she wanted

(01:02:50):
it to be Miami.

Speaker 1 (01:02:53):
Nashville, Austin. And you know what, I believe I like it.

Speaker 2 (01:02:59):
When she said because I'm being a homer, But they
had a team in Miami. They were drawing three hundred
people a game, So know your history. And then too,
each team that comes in is gonna get two hundred
and fifty at two hundred and fifty fifty thousand or

(01:03:27):
million dollars to uh to the collective bargaining That goes
to the women's pay.

Speaker 4 (01:03:35):
So that's three teams.

Speaker 1 (01:03:37):
That's over seven hundred and fifty million dollars that's gonna
go into everybody getting paid, more, more services, more of marketability.
That money can do a lot. And yes, you're gonna
have to create the infrastructures.

Speaker 2 (01:03:56):
For the teams and the licensing. But that's easy. Those
towns already have arenas too. You don't have to build
a place. You come to Austin. What you're gonna take over, uh,
the Palmer Auditorium. You're gonna have to fight to get

(01:04:16):
into the Moody. They're scheduling all year long for the
h GB Center. So like you run in the troubles.
So she don't understand that, so she ran off at
the mouth and bashed it. It's Cunningham. I'm not gonna
give you the U Suck segment, but I am gonna

(01:04:38):
tell you this, be more rid about the situations before
you make comments, because.

Speaker 4 (01:04:47):
I'm not tryna take this anymore.

Speaker 3 (01:04:50):
And I'm not gonna take it any more hard.

Speaker 4 (01:04:52):
What say you?

Speaker 1 (01:04:54):
I don't know what to say, man, I mean you
you you you said it with your chest.

Speaker 4 (01:05:00):
You meant what you said, and you said what you meant.

Speaker 1 (01:05:03):
I understand that that you are passionate about it, right,
and so are they. They want to make sure that
they continue to be the feature, right like you expand
these teams and obviously they're coming up on expansion right now.
But as you start to look into these these moves,

(01:05:28):
there's a lot that goes into it. There's a lot
that ends up happening in those moments. To your point,
they're gonna make a lot of money, but they're also
going to have to do some different things as far
as playing players and how you're gonna pull from one
team to get to the next team. You're also creating
a water down product at some point. They're just now

(01:05:50):
starting to elevate this team. They're just now starting to
elevate the WNBA. They look Chirl Swoops and Cynthia Cooper
and Lisa Leslie, Rebecca Lobo.

Speaker 4 (01:06:03):
People don't even talk.

Speaker 1 (01:06:04):
About them what they mean to this game, right They
put a good foundation down.

Speaker 4 (01:06:09):
They started this thing.

Speaker 1 (01:06:10):
Man, the Houston comments was it if you want to
bring a team back, bring a team back to Houston.
They who were They were the Trandsetters.

Speaker 4 (01:06:20):
That's where everybody wanted to be. So I do understand
both sides. I understand your side.

Speaker 1 (01:06:26):
I also understand her side because I think what they're
trying to do is the rev sharing right now. For
what Caitlin Clark has been able to achieve and bring
to the game. They're all I've seen more Indiana Fever
games than I did the Atlanta Brains when they was
on TBS.

Speaker 4 (01:06:47):
I'm like, you.

Speaker 1 (01:06:48):
Ain't even got to try to find the fever anymore.
They go put the fever on that time exactly. So
there's there's some some pluses and some minuses with it,
And I do appreciate your stance on it because I
do understand. Like when you said there was two how
many people three hundred that went to Miami.

Speaker 3 (01:07:09):
Three hundred people showed up at a Miami game.

Speaker 4 (01:07:11):
Google it.

Speaker 1 (01:07:13):
I look, I'm not gonna google it because I believe
in you.

Speaker 4 (01:07:17):
We got more than that watching us right now exactly.

Speaker 2 (01:07:21):
So why would you go back to a market that
doesn't support that, that doesn't care about women's basketball.

Speaker 4 (01:07:29):
Yeah, I get it. She she just didn't know. She
don't understand.

Speaker 2 (01:07:33):
She's saying it from Oh I want to go hang out, man,
You be able to talk to the rest of your
teammates about how this money work.

Speaker 5 (01:07:41):
It's not about the money. She about it. I want
to go vacation. I want to tell you, I want
to go to the mall. I want to go to
South Beach, are you nuts?

Speaker 1 (01:07:49):
Well you think about fifty million? Sophie has now become
the face of the women's basketball game on so many
different levels because of that, you know what I'm saying.
So there's a lot that needs to go down. So
I'm I'm a fan. I do like what you said,
and I'm appreciative of what you had to say on that.

Speaker 4 (01:08:11):
And there he is, folks WWE Hall of Famer and
the world Strongest.

Speaker 1 (01:08:15):
Man, Deve Mark Henry doing his thing with the World's
Strongest take. When we come back, we'll close out the show.
Send you to Dan Patrick. We talked about Bobby Banilla's money,
but now we're gonna hear from Bobby Bania and him
telling you how it all went down right here on
the Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio and thirteen hundred is on.

Speaker 4 (01:09:16):
Right now, I want to.

Speaker 1 (01:09:17):
Get into this conversation because yesterday we had the conversation.

Speaker 4 (01:09:20):
About Bobby Bonilla.

Speaker 1 (01:09:22):
Bobby Bonia Day is every July the first, and he
gets a deposit that was worked up in his previous
previous contract. Now there's other guys that have deferred money
and they got big Payday's Chris Davis. He still gets
paid from the Baltimore Orioles. The Washington Nationals still pays

(01:09:43):
Max Scherzer. The Cardinals are still paying Matt Holliday. Matt
Holliday is making more money than his kid who's in
the big leagues this year. And it is kind of
crazy that he just got to check yesterday as well
that direct deposit hits no other Well, right now, once
you hear from Bobby Bonia and how the contract was

(01:10:06):
written up.

Speaker 12 (01:10:07):
Tell me about the conversations that went on as this
concept was sort of came up.

Speaker 4 (01:10:12):
I mean, There's been so.

Speaker 12 (01:10:13):
Much talk about deferred contracts with the Dodgers during the
course of this winner. But I always tell people, look,
there's a big difference between what Bobby did and what say,
show Heyo Tani did, because you got interest with yours
versus putting the money away. Tell me how that conversation
came up and what was you know, the between you
and Go Go.

Speaker 4 (01:10:33):
Well, that part I can talk about.

Speaker 1 (01:10:38):
It was just I believe in ninety four was probably
going to be the highest year of my salary, and
I believe we were talking there might be some some
stuff going on where, you know, there might be a
lockout or a strike. If I remember correctly, that was
the highest salary of the contract. So I said, Dennis,
you know, I'd like to put some of this money away,

(01:11:02):
you know, And we offered several ideas to the bets,
and then Dennis just hashed it out and we were
able to come to an agreement.

Speaker 12 (01:11:11):
When did you feel like or when did it really
strike you about what a great deal long term this
was for you.

Speaker 4 (01:11:17):
I didn't really think about it, you know, I didn't.

Speaker 3 (01:11:19):
Right you're in the middle of your playing career.

Speaker 1 (01:11:21):
Yeah, I was having Yeah, I was just you know,
diving in trying to be a good baseball player, really
focused on that.

Speaker 4 (01:11:28):
I didn't really think about it.

Speaker 12 (01:11:31):
Right, And then it wasn't until after you were done that,
you know, as reached your life first rolls around and
you have people in baseball reaching out to you.

Speaker 1 (01:11:39):
Well, you know what's funny was that it was done
so quietly, and I mean nobody knew I was putting
the money away. And then, to be quite honest with you,
I don't know how it gotten it surfaced to where
people found out about it, but they did, and now
it's become what it is and it's a pretty cool day.

Speaker 4 (01:11:59):
It's a pretty cool It's a pretty cool day.

Speaker 1 (01:12:01):
And the fact that Bobby Bania is now recognized he's
a mean people get excited about it. And now he
also talked about the fact of being that me and
he calls him a little bit of a hater when
it comes to knowing about his contract.

Speaker 12 (01:12:17):
It's known in baseball as Bobby Vania Day because every
July first, the deferrals in your contract that you sign
when your agent negotiated deal. Dennis Gilbert with the Mets
back in the day, back in the early nineties. This
is more than thirty years ago. You get a payment
from that deferral on July first.

Speaker 4 (01:12:40):
Tell me you know what that day is.

Speaker 1 (01:12:42):
Like for you and who you hear from, Well, I
hear from a lot of people. It's probably bigger than
my birthday. Everybody knows that day more than my birthday. Listen,
it's We've been doing it for quite a long time now.
I'm kind of used to it. It's a lot of
fun to have it. But you know, it was done

(01:13:02):
so long ago. You know, it's just a.

Speaker 12 (01:13:04):
More than thirty years and you got you got more
than a decade to go.

Speaker 4 (01:13:09):
Well that. Well, don't be mad to me because of that, bust.

Speaker 3 (01:13:11):
Oh no, no, no, no, no, no, no.

Speaker 4 (01:13:13):
It is what it is. It is what it is.
It's just it's just a great day. You know.

Speaker 1 (01:13:19):
We just I just have fun with it now. I mean,
I'm glad I did put the money away. Uh, And
you know, it's just a beautiful thing.

Speaker 4 (01:13:27):
I love it. I love it.

Speaker 1 (01:13:29):
I love the fact that people are still talking about
Bobby Bania. He comes out and lets everyone know about
why it happened, how it happened, and everybody understands that
that is the long game. That is the long game.
As we talked about this, he hadn't played in the
Big League since two thousand and one. In this contract

(01:13:55):
that he has of getting a million dollars has every
year until twenty thirty five.

Speaker 3 (01:14:05):
So will we be saying happy show Hey O Tony
Day in the.

Speaker 4 (01:14:08):
Future, Yeah, we definitely will.

Speaker 1 (01:14:12):
But show Hay's money is going to be a lot
bigger than what Bobby's was. Show Hay deferred big, big
dollars to the end. However, they drew this up to
where he was going to get that million. I hope
that show Hay has been getting them dividends that keep
continuing to build the entire way. So it's an impressive,

(01:14:34):
impressive look, and I'm happy for him. I'll just tell
you that because I know what he gave to the
game and the game with the strike and everything. I
was part of the strike in ninety four, so I
got a chance to see what the process was and
how they were fighting for these contracts. And now these

(01:14:58):
players are benefiting like no with these contracts. So he's
still still making that money and still being able to
enjoy enjoy life that he knows that every July first.

Speaker 4 (01:15:13):
He said, it's bigger than his birthday. Marcus, it's bigger
than his birthday.

Speaker 5 (01:15:17):
Yeah, that's funny like his I guess that's his family
and friends not even mentioned a happy birthday.

Speaker 3 (01:15:22):
But they showed call him on I'm getting paid day.

Speaker 4 (01:15:27):
On that on that Bobby bo Nia day.

Speaker 1 (01:15:30):
Think about that, you know, July the first, No matter
what's going on in your life, no matter how bad
you've been spending money, you know you gonna get another
meal right back in there, right on that thing.

Speaker 5 (01:15:44):
So and speaking of birthdays, whose birthday is it this weekend?

Speaker 4 (01:15:48):
It's my boy Kenny. It's my boy Kenny.

Speaker 1 (01:15:50):
So happy birthday to my boy Kenny.

Speaker 4 (01:15:56):
What's you Kenny? Yeah you got you got me, man,
you got me. But yeah, you throw it down.

Speaker 1 (01:16:08):
Yeah, we had a We had a good time yesterday.
We got a chance to see some friends, some guys
that I didn't know were going to be out here
as well. So it was good time. And yes, I
was playing it up a little bit. I wasn't tore
up this right here had to happen. I had to
be on the show. So I know how to be

(01:16:29):
a professional.

Speaker 5 (01:16:30):
You keep doing it today, you keep you keep it
game time ready exactly.

Speaker 1 (01:16:35):
I show up to show out to make sure that
everybody that listens and tunes in to the show has
a great, great time. So Mark had to go, but
we had to go. So make sure you tell all
your friends, tell your family members. Tune into the morning
kickoff Monday through Friday, seven to nine am. We're going

(01:16:57):

and of.

Speaker 4 (01:17:00):

guy Eric.

Speaker 1 (01:17:05):

to talk more Longhorse.

Speaker 4 (01:17:10):
