At AM thirteen hundred, the Zone, at the Mark Henry,
and of course at Hardball hard We're gonna get into
the WNBA a little bit later because it was crazy
(02:20):
last night and I'm gonna be honest with i'mnna be
honest with you, Mark, I actually actually enjoyed it.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
I did too, I've really really enjoyed it.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
But like everything else, we need to continue these conversations
a little bit later. Right now, I want to get
into this conversation about the top running back, well number
two running back in the state of Texas, and kJ
Edwards is his name. He's out of Carthage. He was
(02:50):
one of Texas's top targets. And you know as well
as I do, and I've talked about this at nauseum,
I do not get too excited about commitments until.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
They signed the doutrin. That's right, you know, it is easy.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
I've seen it throughout history where a kid has been
committed to one school for a long time and then
the National signing Day they do the hat trick, they
do the box, they do family with all kinds of
balloons and everything, and it ain't the school that they
thought they was going to or you thought they were
(03:30):
going to. Also believe in we cannot trust the mindsets
of seventeen and eighteen year old kids that sometimes it
just blows in the wind. Sometimes you gotta look at
the family members as well. And I'm not throwing shade
(03:52):
at anybody, because to be recruited by all these schools
is an honor that there's no privileges, it's an honor.
But I don't get caught up in the hype of
well this, we got this commitment today.
Speaker 4 (04:07):
I don't oh, look at our ranking.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
Oh no, man, National Signing Day is the day that
you really need to understand what's going on.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
Yeah, that's Christmas, that's it.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
If it's not Christmas, it's not football Christmas. I don't
want to hear about it.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
And it's like a lot of folks are excited about it.
Oh yeah, ye, But I.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
Do like whenever there's like a signing out of the
port because that's that's official, that's final, and it's final. Fine,
like you, you have to be able to find your
joy somewhere. And as bad as everybody thought, oh the
(04:47):
portal is worse, it's never gonna work, and it's gonna
change college it's not changing college football. Every sund Every Saturday,
when you tune into a college football game, it's identically
the same, except people get paid and now then you know,
like higher mercenary, they can be on your team one
(05:10):
year and be gone so whatever, it's the same as
the NFL now.
Speaker 4 (05:14):
Yeah, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
And so the conversation has now become this deal of
kJ Edwards has been recruited and committed to the Texas
A and M fighting agis. The Aggies have what some would
say one of the top recruiting classes for the class
of twenty six that they've ever had.
Speaker 4 (05:37):
This is big time for the Aggies.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
And people were asking Coach Sark about it, and Coach
Sark had a slick answer, and he's on the same wavelink.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
Very very rare, very rare.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
We're on the same wavelink when he says, I'm not
going to panic about summer commitments. We'll see where they
are and where they finish up in December when the
recruiting cycle is pretty much over and you got to
sign the letter of intent.
Speaker 4 (06:06):
So to me looking at it.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
I mean, he is definitely somebody that a lot of
schools are after. I mean every school was on his
list of searching. But you know as well as I do, man,
and I continue to say this, everything changes along the way.
There may be different circumstances that happen throughout the season
(06:29):
to where he's like, well, look, I like my chances
over at the University of Texas Georgia, Florida, wherever else
he may be recruiting, just like Texas A and M.
Congratulations you won the summer recruitment because he was supposed
to be here this coming weekend and he canceled his
official visit.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
Hey man, that is one less hotel room.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
What But I encourage fans and all these all these
people that look the recruiting ranking so much. We don't
get a trophy for her for being the top recruiters.
You got to go out and be able to perform
on the field.
Speaker 4 (07:09):
You're making a lot more money when they do when
they can bring it in.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
It's just like scouting for baseball. If we sign you
as the number one or number two, whenever you get signed,
waiting on that mailbox, Yeah you started. Hey, I get
a bonus for that, beau I ended up getting them.
But yeah, so to me, I don't look at it
as a loss as of yet and as a Texas
A and M. Okay, congratulations you win for now. But
(07:35):
like anything else, you wait until National Signing Day. I've
never ever been one of those guys that is like,
oh my god, did you see the recruiting rankings because
a lot of them don't hold true.
Speaker 4 (07:51):
A lot of them don't hold true at the end.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
And as a true freshman at running back, you have
to be Adrian Peterson to come to Texas and just
take over or Bjon or Bjon.
Speaker 4 (08:03):
You gotta be that direct. I mean, you know, you
know what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
Thought, but he definitely, I mean, if he's the number
two running back in the state of Texas, he's got
to be pretty salty for him to be looked at
as that type of player. So there's a lot that
is going on with this Texas football team and as
far as recruitment, and you see it on the weekends.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
They have their parties and everybody's in town and I
got my offer. I got my offer, and that's great.
I love it. I love it.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
And for all those that get that opportunity to be
recognized as such, that's how standing work. But the finish line,
the finish line is in December, in February, and if
we could get to them and those paperwork is already
in because don't forget think about what Texas normally does,
so they get those kids to sign in December, A
(08:59):
lot of them here in January. A lot of them
they've already been admitted.
Speaker 4 (09:04):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
They here, so they come in and it starts just
like this past year. What do you say, twenty two
of the twenty seven we're already on campus after National
signing Day for them to be already in the workouts
and getting a part of that adjusting to the college life.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
So there's a lot that is out there.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
And I just wanted to everybody because I saw social media.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
Yesterday they were losing the people.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
People were standing on the roof looking over the edge.
Do we all stop it?
Speaker 3 (09:37):
We are doing good in rankings right now, we're not
even at the top.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
Texas A and M is at number two.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
Let's put it like this, USC is the number one
team in twenty twenty six football recruiting. When's the last
time that happened, Reggie Bush.
Speaker 4 (09:56):
It's been a minute.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
So, as sark says, and as I continue to look
through these, don't get too high, too low, and all
of these recruiting cycles, Texas is sitting at number eighteen.
They finished in the top five almost every single year
since Sarka's big.
Speaker 4 (10:15):
The Tortoise in the hair.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
Yeah, it's like, what do you say, It's not a sprint,
it's a marathon ath.
Speaker 4 (10:21):
You got to build these.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
Relationships, You got to continue to cultivate the thoughts in
the minds of these young players. If Texas get a
commitment from your guy Felix Ojoe, yeah, then both they
jump all the way up. I mean, you gotta just
play the game a little.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
I think.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
Also, Texas depth chart is so strong and almost airy
position right now that people are looking going, man, how
am I going to get worked into this?
Speaker 4 (10:47):
Yeah, and that's a good problem to have. Absolutely, So
if we have a.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
Class where you you know, we come in tenth and recruiting,
it's not because Texas is not a destination, right, It's
because that it's so competitive that you might want to go.
Speaker 4 (11:08):
Somewhere where you could play.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
Absolutely, and with the portal system, you can always enter
the portal and go whenever you want to.
Speaker 4 (11:16):
So the whole, this whole landscape is changing. It's not forever.
Just remember that when you said it's scared of people.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
We're just getting started on this way back Wednesday up
day edition of the Morning Kickoff.
Speaker 4 (11:33):
When we come back.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
Arch Manning, he's good in any hood, and I'll tell
you what we're talking about right here on the Morning
Kickoff on Sports Radio and thirteen hundred The Zone. Man
old man, what a way to start off the show.
If you missed any parts of the show throughout the show,
we got Danny Davis coming up in the next segment.
(11:54):
You can always always get over to that always free
iHeartRadio app and wherever you get your podcasts to find
other episodes of the Morning Kickoff. Mike Harball Harg World
Strongest Man, the Mark Henry that's right, And of course
we got our guy Marcus behind the boards.
Speaker 4 (12:13):
And right now I want to talk about arch Manning.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
You know, I've been really hesitant from crowning him rightfully,
so he's got some things he's got to work through
and hopefully get a chance to show his worst coming
up here against Ohio State to start the season eleven
o'clock on the Shoe. At the Shoe, excuse me, but
you can listen to the game right here with the
(12:39):
voice of the Texas Longhorns, Craig Way, right here on
AM thirteen hundred The Zone and always free on the
iHeartRadio app. But one thing is for sure, since the
day that he has stepped on campus, he has made
sure that he's fitting. He's not above anybody, and from
(13:00):
all accounts, he's been one hell of a teammate, and
just recently he's been viral. He's always been viral because
he is a Manning, but he's been viral because he
spent some time in East Saint Louis with Ryan Wingo
to go help his camp out.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
Good morning, welcome to the camp. What is your name?
Good morning? You guys have to get fresh shirt? Good
morning to check you in? Where's your last name? Last night? Many?
(13:50):
He is good in any hood.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
But the stories about Arch and who he is, let's
not forget people. Arch Manning grew up in New Orleans.
Arch Manning likes to have fun. And if a teammate
asks Arch, hey man, you mind coming back to the
crib with me to come and hang out and help
(14:14):
my community out, of course he's gonna show up. But
I remember when McAfee just the other day was talking
about who Arch Manning is, and it makes you forget
sometimes that he was he's a college student.
Speaker 5 (14:32):
Arch Manning is awesome.
Speaker 6 (14:34):
Arch Manning is everything you want you're starting quarterback to
be a couple of years ago, Arch Manning student I
D was found after a night out. A lot of
people goes this guy out control. I said, it is
he what his teammates. That's all I care about. If
he's out and about all his teammates and doing college.
I love everything about it. The whever he gets in
the game starts flexing, the boys go crazy. Arch Manning
beloved by the locker room. How the loved by the
(14:56):
locker room. Well, you don't really know until you start
seeing more inviting a cook out, wait, go out of camp, and.
Speaker 4 (15:01):
Arch Manning obviously went.
Speaker 6 (15:03):
And his particular video here is making his rounds on
the internet because arch Manning, I believe, is welcome anywhere.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
That's what they say. He's welcome anywhere. Annie, hey Man,
you get.
Speaker 4 (15:15):
Invited to the cookout, he lies, Yeah, he's catering.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
You know, ain't got that good gumbo season. You know
he't got that room. He got that rule. But the
thing about it is, and Mark, you know this, if
you are a good locker room dude, if you hang
out with your teammates, they will do anything for you,
(15:42):
no matter how big of a star your light is.
Speaker 4 (15:48):
You remember when Chris Simms was here, and.
Speaker 1 (15:50):
A lot of people talk a lot of trash about
Chris Simms. I actually like Chris Simms when he was here.
I think he's another one of those underappreciated quarterbacks that
played at the Universe of Texas that came in with
the hype. Sorry, but you know, he came in during
the time where there was a lot of good players
playing college football at that time, so the rivalries and
(16:11):
the games that were happening, they were tough. I did
a show for a long time with Rod Bapers, who
is one of Chris Sim's best friends him Kyle Shanahan
and Bow the Wood.
Speaker 4 (16:23):
That's right, both scaife.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
Rod Tells used to tell the story all the time
about how Chris was always down for the cause. May
not have got all the hype, might have been the
hype guy, but he never ever treated his teammates like
they were less than him. And that is what you
start to hear about archmen. And he knew his role.
(16:48):
He wanted to be a college student. He wasn't expecting
to come into the University of Texas and start at
the very beginning. He knew who he was playing behind
another five star at the University of Texas line of
mun up.
Speaker 4 (17:00):
They all coming in, they all five stars. But you
still it's gonna be a monster.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
Yeah, but you look at kJ Lacey Man, what you're
talking about?
Speaker 4 (17:10):
You better wait for Lacey Trail and you like.
Speaker 1 (17:13):
Him, so you start to look at how this all happens.
But it's the it's the locker room stuff that makes
people want to fight for you.
Speaker 4 (17:22):
That's the stuff that I always check into.
Speaker 1 (17:25):
It's like, well, they if something were to go down,
where is his teammates gonna be?
Speaker 2 (17:30):
And they gonna be right there with him? And we
all had that. I mean, we talk about the legends
of the locker room. We talk about our stories. And
I can't tell you one story about my collegiate life
that didn't involve my teammates exactly, Like it just they
just go together. And you know, I hear the stories
(17:53):
with my wife was a gymnast at West Virginia, and
she talks about not the meat, not she talks about
the coach and her teammates. That's usually where the stories go.
So that's that's what it is with ours two. Like
it just happens that he's a manning and uh, not
realizing that New Orleans, regardless of where you are in
(18:16):
New Orleans, New Orleans is I'm so good. Yeah, regardless,
turn one corner and there you are.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
You're in the wrong spot easily every time. You have
to go back to sometimes, but quick.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
That's the That's one of the better things about New
Orleans over all the rest of louis In and I'm
not going to talk about that, but New Orleans one
of the livest cities in America.
Speaker 1 (18:41):
Well, and the fact too that he again he can
go and kick it and not fill out of place.
Speaker 4 (18:47):
Knows. Hey, man, I'm with him. I'm good.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
Not here to cause no problems, just here to kick
it and have a good time. But I want you
to hear from his big uncle, not Eli, but uh
Peyton and the conversation that was on busting the boys.
And we'll hear some more stuff from Busting the Boys
a little bit later. But the conversation that he has
(19:12):
with Art when all he wants to know is hey,
you got a second to talk about defense and two
minute drills?
Speaker 7 (19:20):
You if you obviously calls you a lot, and I
know you and Eli have a big rivalry.
Speaker 8 (19:24):
Who do you think he calls more it's funny. You know,
look he's I mean these nineteen twenty year olds. I
mean the text response rate, it's not super high, right,
it's not a great completion percentage. So I don't I
kind of let him reach out to me if he
has a question. He came to Denver a couple of
years ago. We worked out. That was fun, and he
(19:44):
will every now and then text me with a question about, Hey,
a two minute drill. This is what happened in practice today,
And I'm sure as soon as he texts me the
question he regrets it. Because you can't answer a question
about a two minute drill with a text back just
what the phone?
Speaker 4 (20:00):
Who he is?
Speaker 8 (20:01):
You have to go to the voice memo. You have to,
and it can't be just one. So you bang them
back with a seven minute voice memo response about about
the two minute about you know what the defense is
doing and the plays that you like. You got to
go to your staples, Yeah, the plays that you like,
and you finish it and you're like, I didn't even
mention the fact that a defense after a time out
(20:24):
will probably come with an exotic blitz, so you better
call a max protection coming out of the time out
and then you finish that when that's about a six
minute or and you're like, well but totally even you know,
forgot about the red zone.
Speaker 4 (20:38):
Yes, and so three voice memos later.
Speaker 7 (20:40):
Send me a video.
Speaker 4 (20:43):
Who do you think the favorite uncle is?
Speaker 5 (20:44):
So?
Speaker 4 (20:46):
Yeah, yeah, I like that. I like that.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
He's like, I'm just not just doing that. I'm not
just doing that. I got to do all of these
extra things. It's like a parent. You're a parent. It's like, hey,
can you bring me all right? Well, what do you
need that for? And tell me what the purpose of
it is? And where do I come on?
Speaker 4 (21:05):
Man, stop it out of my head.
Speaker 9 (21:08):
I just wanted to know who the hot read was.
That's all I want to know. Try to make it simple. Hey,
I need two word answer, that's all I need. I
don't what you're gonna get. That's exactly right.
Speaker 2 (21:19):
Jacob will call me and he'll go, he'll preface the
whole conversation that I got like thirty five forty five seconds. Yeah,
because I have to go. And I'm like, well, why
you called me? I just wanted to ask you something.
And then he asked a question. All right, I'll hit
you all later.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
Yeah, because he knows, he knows hard that I'm finna
give him five minutes exactly, five minute come back. Yeah,
I'm just pulling teeth with my son right now, I
mean a teenager. So I'm like, hey man, I'm trying
to ask you some things I need you to elaborate.
But it is what it is, and the fact that
that is who you can lean on for a conversation
(22:02):
and be able to truly understand, because I guarantee you
he's going back to it and looking at it and
understanding why he just didn't want to do it at
that particular moment because he had to be good in
any hoods, you know what I'm talking about. When we
come back, we're gonna talk to our guy, Danny Davis
of the Austin American Statesman as he breaks down the
(22:24):
Texas basketball schedule and so much more pertaining to the
Longhorns right here on a hump day edition of The
Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
Welcome back to the Morning Kickoff right here on Sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Now is the time
(22:45):
that we talk to our guy, Danny Davis of the
Austin American Statesman. You can follow him at underscore Danny Davis.
Oh wait, phone ain't ringing, so we're efforting. Yeah, we're
efforting Danny Davis. So it looks like I'm about to
call Danny on my phone and get him onto the
(23:06):
show right now. All right, we are joined now by
Danny Davis of the Austin American states I mean, you
can follow him at Danny or excuse me, at underscore
Danny Davis and Danny. I don't know how your thought
process works, but in my process, I don't buy too
much stock into a kid, whether or there are committed
(23:31):
to the University of Texas, Texas A and M, Nebraska.
You name the school, I don't buy much stock in it.
But yesterday kJ Edwards, the running back from Carthage, committed
to Texas A and M, and a lot of folks
kind of looked at it as like, Sark, oh, my goodness,
Sark isn't doing his job or they're recruiting. Is different
(23:53):
because Tashar choices and here, what do you buy into
the stock of kids at these particular moments committing because
you've seen the changes all the time.
Speaker 10 (24:06):
I care when they get on campus. It this you know,
I don't I don't know kJ. I don't know what
his thought processes. But as far as we know, you
could commit and decommit sixteen times before signing day, I mean,
and then two more times after that, and then jump
in the transfer portal after his first year. I mean,
he could be a lifetime agga. I don't want to,
you know, talk talk down on him. You know, he's
(24:27):
saying thing about about him. But you know, with what
recruiting is in the transfer portal and all that stuff,
it doesn't matter. I mean, you know, recruiting is an
interesting game. I'm very blessed I don't have to cover
much of it.
Speaker 5 (24:40):
Stays. We have other reporters to handle it.
Speaker 10 (24:43):
But commitments mean absolutely nothing, and with the way the
transfer portal is these days, signing means even less. So
you know, you know kJ gets you know, gets the
college station. I'm sure he'll be he'll be fun to watch.
Speaker 5 (24:56):
You know, maybe not from long horn span.
Speaker 10 (24:58):
You'll kind of regret that hold your breath whenever whenever
they play around Thanksgiving. But in Texas, Texas will be
fine regardless of what running back ends up on their campus.
Speaker 5 (25:09):
So they'll be fine and thinks team has a good.
Speaker 10 (25:11):
Enough track record of producing a thousand yards rushers that
if they miss out on one, they'll be fine.
Speaker 4 (25:17):
Yeah. I have no doubt about it either.
Speaker 1 (25:19):
But I do want to talk SEC women's basketball and
the Texas long Horns. The SEC announces the opponents for
the Texas long Horns for next season, well the twenty
twenty five to twenty sixth season. Texas will host home
games against Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky, Ole, miss Mississippi State, Texas,
(25:41):
A and M, Oklahoma.
Speaker 4 (25:43):
And LSU.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
They will have a home and away matchup with LSU.
Talk about what you think about that home schedule because
it looks pretty enticing.
Speaker 5 (25:56):
Yeah, I mean this is not unexpected.
Speaker 10 (25:58):
I think even though the SEC now so yesterday, I
think we knew what their schedule is going to be because
we're just going to flip the away games from last
year and the teams they hosted Texas was going to
go travel to.
Speaker 5 (26:09):
So you know, Texas missed out on a M and
Oklahoma and home last year, but those teams will be
coming to Austin Austin this year.
Speaker 10 (26:16):
And then you know the Kentucky team that's on the
rise and you know, Auburn and Georgia aren't aren't great,
so those are maybe some you know givings. But Ole
Miss is a really good team, Mississippi State, it's a
really good team. That Texas gets the host and obviously
they'll go travel to some of those teams.
Speaker 5 (26:30):
But Lsu I think.
Speaker 10 (26:31):
I think said last February that that was gonna be
the home and home series this year, so.
Speaker 5 (26:35):
You had some Kim Mulki drama both which would be
which should be fun.
Speaker 10 (26:39):
And obviously was a very talented team and it's going
to be you know, continuing financial championship next year, so
that'll be some good tests.
Speaker 5 (26:46):
I think the only question was whether Texas.
Speaker 10 (26:47):
Was going to go to South Carolina or South Carolina's
going to come to Austin. Since I was the home
and home last year, and we found out that Texas
to go to Columbia, which is no small treat, but
that keeps Texas's home and road games even so that
should be too big a surprise.
Speaker 5 (27:01):
I'm church in Texas.
Speaker 10 (27:02):
Fans were crossing their fingers that somehow South Carolina would
end up on the home schedule.
Speaker 2 (27:07):
Danny, I'm looking at the Texas roster and it's starting
to look like the way that San Antonio Spurs used
to look with coach Popovich always going overseas. Uh Texas
having Grace Printer uh from Dublin, Ireland and UH Levosa
as of brink Hols from Stockholm, Sweden who was at
(27:29):
Florida Atlantic. Can you can you enlighten us about you know,
this international flare of Texas right now?
Speaker 5 (27:38):
Mark surprised you got past number three on the rosters,
and so.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
I'm trying to diversify this Danny.
Speaker 5 (27:50):
Obviously Texas didn't, you know, do some international recruit.
Speaker 10 (27:53):
You know, THEO Lavisa did play Florida Atlantic last year,
so that wasn't quite uh, I don't think, because many
trips to to.
Speaker 5 (28:01):
Sweden for that one. But it's gonna be interesting to
see how as two fit in. I think Louviy's is
a project.
Speaker 10 (28:06):
I think she only averaged like three points three rebounds last.
Speaker 5 (28:10):
Year at FAU, so obviously come into the SEC is
gonna be a big jump for her.
Speaker 10 (28:14):
But Texas has depth in the pain so they can
be patient with her kind of as they were kind.
Speaker 5 (28:18):
Of being patient with Abby on the last two years,
which is just works.
Speaker 10 (28:21):
I think you know Livy's I wouldn't expect too much
out of her this upcoming season. She may even read shirt,
you know, she if she doesn't prove worthy of playing time.
I think Grace is a bigger question mark, just because
we don't exactly know what Texas is.
Speaker 5 (28:37):
Getting out of her.
Speaker 10 (28:38):
But I think with the issues that they had with
some of their guard depth, you know, there's an opportunity
for her to come in. She you know, if you've
seen her film, you've seen you know, Vic talk about her.
She's known as a shooter, so which is something Texas
needs and maybe that's a role that she can fit in.
But you'll watch see, we'll see if the Ireland scene
matches up with the SEC and if she's a little undersized.
Speaker 5 (29:01):
So I don't know, if you know, five to eight
five seven is gonna.
Speaker 10 (29:04):
Necessarily you know, make her standton on the court. But
we'll see if that three point.
Speaker 5 (29:08):
Shooting is something that Texas can use next year.
Speaker 1 (29:10):
Well, we're speaking of Danny Davis of the Austin American Statesman.
You can follow them at Underscore. Danny Davis, let's get
over to the Diamond Danny and talk a little bit
about the Texas baseball team. They have been able to
make some noise in the transfer portal. What are some
of the things that you'd like about the moves that
Texas has been able to make in the transfer portal.
Speaker 5 (29:34):
I mean they've gotten some you know, a couple in
quality guys. Know, the guy that they just.
Speaker 10 (29:39):
Got out of the portal from Mississippi State, so you know,
has some SEC experience. But you know, at the end
of the day, the Texas team is going to still
need more pitching. I think Texas ended up running into
some problems with its pitching deck by the end of
the season.
Speaker 5 (29:53):
You know that the counting numbers were all fine.
Speaker 10 (29:55):
You know, that's the top ten e er A team,
and they definitely made some strides from in the season, but.
Speaker 5 (30:01):
You know, they did not have a.
Speaker 10 (30:05):
Lot of depth when it came to what we considered
SEC pitching, which is you know, we talked to Jared
at one point in the tournament tournament about why they're
hit hitting so many batters, because you know, that.
Speaker 5 (30:16):
Is by far the most better as they've hit on
some sex.
Speaker 10 (30:18):
They started tracking those numbers and Jim was essentially saying
because they throw a lot offspeeds, stuff, but they don't
have a lot of guys who up there, you know
throwing you know, mid nineties and stuff like that, especially
after Jared Spencer got hurt and Jared's not going back.
So I think we expect Dylan to you know, Atlantis
to get earn a supart on the rotation. Then you
have some of the guys like you know withnch Ruger
or Luke Harrison coming back for another season or some
(30:41):
of those next scrubs. If you have he you know,
factors into it, Thomas Barns to see what he does.
But I think Texas is going to need more of
those weekend guys who can you know, you know throw
in the mid nineties and what we considered to be
SEC arms before I get too excited about the work
that they're doing the portal, but yeah, there's t time.
We'll see what we'll see it.
Speaker 5 (31:01):
Obviously. I think it's three article out there.
Speaker 10 (31:04):
In the next for two of the bigger bats that
are still love in the portals. So we'll see Texas
gets those and see if they can maybe develop some
more of what we consider the SEC pitching.
Speaker 1 (31:13):
Cannot wait to see how it all plays out, as
always make sure you follow Danny at Underscore.
Speaker 4 (31:20):
Danny Davis and.
Speaker 1 (31:21):
Danny we'll talk again next week and hopefully our phones
will be working by then.
Speaker 4 (31:25):
Bro, I have more questions about Rudy Harmon too. You'll
have a happy YouTube YouTube my brother, thank you. There.
Speaker 1 (31:33):
He is Danny Davis of the Austin American Statesman doing
Danny Davis things. And when we come back, we will
make sure that we keep this thing going. Who runs
Tennessee h somebody just told us they do right here
on the morning kick off on sports radio and thirteen hundred.
That's all great stuff by Danny Davis of the Austin
(31:55):
American Statesman. But you know when you hear that type
of music right there, that only mean one thing. Now
is your chance to get a pair of tickets to
win a pair of tickets to go see Laney Wilson
September the eighteenth at the Moody Center. All you got
to do is get over to that new and improved
guy heard radio app search for a thirteen hundred the zone,
(32:17):
or just stay where you are and tap that red
microphone and tap the word I mean leave.
Speaker 4 (32:23):
The word world, World.
Speaker 1 (32:26):
Whirl World, and for a chance to win a pair
of tickets to go see Laney Wilson. Make sure you
are tuned in this afternoon as Craig Way and Cam
Parker give you a chance to win another pair of
tickets to go see someone else right here on Sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Uh. I want to
(32:46):
get right into this because the news and the noise
that is coming out of Tennessee is quarterback Diego Pavia.
He has been running his mouth and he said, well,
I'll let you hear from him on his thoughts about
who runs Tennessee.
Speaker 11 (33:07):
Vanderwal is gonna run Tennessee after this year, Like this
is gonna be the new staple of like college foot
what's gonna happen here at Vanderbilt.
Speaker 12 (33:15):
Do any of you and the boys ever like talk
about that, Like we gotta be the school. Well, we're
in Nashville, Tennessee, like we're in the music city, Like
we need to be the brand of Tennessee.
Speaker 11 (33:25):
Everyone wants to come to Tennessee because of Nashville, So
they want to come to Nashville. So Vanderbilt and then
when we have like the most money in nil like
why not come here? So like we literally just have
to win this year and throughout the rest of the year,
take care of itself.
Speaker 12 (33:42):
You think Vandy will have the most money in the
game or.
Speaker 4 (33:44):
I think we'll be up there.
Speaker 12 (33:46):
Yeah, but like Snashville, Yeah, there's a lot of big
hitters around here.
Speaker 4 (33:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (33:50):
They just need a team to believe in. Yeah, that's
all they need to need. Diego Pavia.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
Come on, man, Vandy, Dandy running Tennessee. Josh Hipel, you
just go stand there and let this man come. Nobody's
responding and saying, I run, we run Tennessee. Can't just
do that. Can't just run Tennessee. You can't just say
you're gonna run exactly.
Speaker 4 (34:17):
I know.
Speaker 1 (34:18):
He's really the hype about himself and how good he
believes his team is. Matter of fact, he said that
they were teams trying to take him from Vanderbilt.
Speaker 12 (34:30):
How much after the year was the portal blowing up
for you on potential teams wanting you to come be
the quarterback for them at a different school?
Speaker 4 (34:36):
A lot?
Speaker 11 (34:38):
It was like, Yeah, it was less reaching out to me.
It was they more reaching out to like my brothers
and my family and stuff.
Speaker 4 (34:44):
Was there a dollar amount that you heard.
Speaker 11 (34:46):
That was like holy Yeah, I don't know if I'm
sped to share with like anywhere from like four to
four point five.
Speaker 7 (34:52):
To leave and go somewhere and leave what conference, sec
in conference trying to get you want to play with
the best. You don't want to play with the big ten.
This dude, some catch man. Just dude, this guy. Yeah, yeah, listen,
(35:15):
I'm starting to like him, though.
Speaker 4 (35:20):
I knew you would. I like her.
Speaker 1 (35:22):
I like, put some extra peppers on mine. He put
the extra peppers on at the end.
Speaker 4 (35:29):
Hard.
Speaker 5 (35:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (35:30):
Yeah, Yo.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
He just said it with his chance too, and very comfortable,
like I'm not bragging.
Speaker 4 (35:38):
No, He's letting you know that's what I'm that guy.
Speaker 2 (35:41):
We're good and you should be thinking about me for
four point four point two.
Speaker 1 (35:46):
Yeah, I mean for four to four point five, you
know that would be that would be what it is.
Whoa yeah, he man, he thinks he's that guy. And
his plate was good. I mean, let's not get it
that he was a competitor. He competes hard. I think
he is a talented footag player, but he had to
(36:09):
get it out of the mud. So I respect his
hustle because he had his process and his journey is
not like the ones that we talked about earlier, when
we talked about Art.
Speaker 4 (36:21):
Yeah, he wasn't that.
Speaker 1 (36:22):
He had to go and work and work his behind
off to be able to sit on that bus and
tell everybody that we are two things.
Speaker 4 (36:32):
People want me.
Speaker 1 (36:33):
They were gonna give up a lot of bread to
get me in Number two, Come on, man, we run Tennessee.
Speaker 4 (36:42):
This is going to be The SEC is already live.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
We talk about it every single day now, and the
expectations of all of these teams are high. We got
Phil Steell's magazine. Now we're about to dive into who's good,
who's now, who's got rankings, who? All the different things
that go in to getting ready for a football season.
(37:07):
But men, did he just throw fuel on the fire
for the SEC and talking about how they are about
to run Tennessee.
Speaker 4 (37:15):
So that means you have to come out and you
got to.
Speaker 1 (37:18):
Perform at a high level for the next man that
comes in after you. You're putting pressure on your coaching
staff and you're holding your players accountable because you're trying
to say this isn't gonna be the same old Vanderbilt
as it was back in the day.
Speaker 4 (37:35):
So I'm interested to see what these.
Speaker 1 (37:38):
Guys are going to bring to the table because if
you go talk it, you got to back it up.
And if you don't back it up, people are gonna come.
Speaker 2 (37:46):
After you with all of the full force than Garage
November nineteen, I mean November twenty ninth, Tennessee and Vandy, Alaska.
I don't care who Texas playing, if they playing at
the same time, I want to see this because this
(38:08):
is one.
Speaker 4 (38:08):
Of those you we gotta walk in like you talk
it game. I agree with that, and but I'm not
channel to watch them.
Speaker 1 (38:15):
Yeah, we got maybe maybe have to get two championship,
get two TVs.
Speaker 4 (38:19):
Just for a quick second turn. It's a quick second,
but I'm playing earlier. I'm very interested now.
Speaker 2 (38:26):
And that's what Pavia brings, not just with his play,
but as we can see that this is a guy
that has a personality and sometimes you need guys that
spark your guys.
Speaker 1 (38:38):
Yeah, they're returning thirteen starters on their squad, so that's
probably why he feels the way that he does. And
one of them is uh Sedic Cedric Alexander from LBJ.
He is on that time on that team, and they
got eight guys returning on defense and Eli Stoyles.
Speaker 4 (38:57):
The number one tight end in the SEC.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
Yeah, so it We're gonna be interesting. It's gonna be
very interesting. The spice is out for sure. Our number
one is in the books. Our number two is just
around the corner. And I'm tired of the word underachiever,
and I'll tell you why right here on the Morning
Kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Welcome
(39:23):
back to our number two of a hump day edition
of the Morning Kickoff right here on Sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred The Zone and our number one we talk
about recruiting as running back kJ Edwards has decided to
commit to Texas A and M. But it's still early
and we'll see what happens next. We also know that
(39:45):
Arch is one of those guys that is good in
any hood. We talked women's schedule with Danny Davis of
the Austin American Statesman, and we found out that thender
built is running Tennessee. We shall see right now. I
want to get into this conversation of underachieving. It is
(40:10):
now become a buzzword if you work for the four
Letter Network. We talked about screaming a Smith saying that
Jannis Antetacupo is an underachieving.
Speaker 4 (40:27):
And he got checked, and he got checked by Jay
Will and.
Speaker 1 (40:31):
Rightfully so, because he's done more before five am than
the most people do all day.
Speaker 4 (40:39):
He's done things in his career Anto to Coupo. That
is in these two people that are.
Speaker 1 (40:46):
Now married Aaron Rodgers, and I use that term loosely
on the married part. Aaron Rodgers and Mike Tomlin are
now married in the eyes of the NFL more like
a situational ship.
Speaker 4 (41:03):
Yeah. And Ryan Clark.
Speaker 1 (41:06):
Decided that he was not gonna let Steven A. Smith
use the word underachiever by himself. So here's Ryan.
Speaker 13 (41:14):
After this season, we're gonna have sort of a referendum
on what Aaron Rodgers' career is and what Mike Tomlin's
career is. And I'm gonna say something that's probably going
to be a little bit controversial. At the end of
the season. We're going to look back at these two
first ballot Hall of famers who we hold in such
high esteem, and I think we're going to finally realize
(41:35):
that both Aaron Rodgers and Mike Tomlin has underachieved in
their career. Both of them have such a high floor
of talent, of ability, of potential to be the greatest
that's ever done it, in my opinion, at their individual
positions and places on their team, and they both underachieved.
Speaker 4 (41:59):
You would have told me at the.
Speaker 13 (42:00):
Aaron Rodgers beat us in twenty eleven that both him
and Mike Tomlin would not go back to a Super
Bowl and we'd be in twenty twenty five.
Speaker 4 (42:11):
I would have bet my entire savings on it, and
I would have been broke. Now, in some of those instances,
he's correct.
Speaker 1 (42:23):
We all thought that Aaron Rodgers would have probably won
more Super Bowls because we crowned him after he won,
and what he was able to do, and the way
he throws the football and the team that he's had
around him, you would have thought that. As far as
Mike Tomlin never having a losing season, being able to
be the most consistent coach, I would think in the
(42:45):
history of football, of being above five hundred in his career.
I would agree with you, because he's had a lot
of talent, He's had all these different things, but underachieving
is not something that I would put around those names.
Then Coach of the Year, Aaron Rodgers has been multiple MVP.
(43:06):
He's won that, he's achieved it, he's got a trophy.
Think about this, and I shout out to my guy
Steve Foster. He sent us this when we were having
a conversation about Giannis and how difficult it is to
win a championship, even when you're one of the most
talented people to.
Speaker 4 (43:24):
Play whatever sport it is. Dan Marino did never never
won a Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (43:31):
No, and that was after getting there right the first
the first first year.
Speaker 1 (43:36):
Jim Kelly never won a Super Bowl. Yes, think about that.
It is not easy to win championships. There's a lot
that goes into it. And it ain't just Mark individually.
I get it. Individually. Individual sports, you can achieve it.
(44:02):
Team sports are difficult. To achieve certain things.
Speaker 2 (44:07):
Lightning has to strike sometimes exactly exactly.
Speaker 4 (44:10):
You get a.
Speaker 1 (44:11):
Guy that was underrated that you know he probably hos
and ding dongs and Cheetos and stuff, and you started
giving him stakes and and and vegetables, and he.
Speaker 4 (44:21):
Becomes a great He becomes a great asset.
Speaker 2 (44:25):
But you get lucky sometimes and get that guy or
a guy just I want to play for my hometown team,
but that hometown team already has great players on it.
Now you got a guy that took a home court,
hometown discount, and now he's adds to that team.
Speaker 4 (44:41):
Now you have a super team.
Speaker 2 (44:43):
You know, Ala Lebron going to Miami, Like there's there's
certain things that can happen, and there's certain things that
have to happen and that have to happen well.
Speaker 1 (44:55):
So it's just interesting to me that that word underachieving
is now starting to be a buzzword. And to me,
I don't think it's I don't think it's fair to
label certain players in certain things, in certain situations in
their career. And I by no means, by no means
(45:17):
as your boy defending Aaron Rodgers, I think everybody understands
where I am with Aaron Rodgers. I think also you
look at what Mike Tomlin has been able to do
in his career. I'm not defending Mike Tomlin, but their
track record as far as success, I would say as
(45:38):
far from underachieving. Far from it. I mean, he's never
had a losing.
Speaker 4 (45:44):
Season, right, and after a while people get tired of that.
Speaker 1 (45:47):
I mean, you gotta advance, you got to do things
in the postseason, but that'll lead into my next in
the next segment. Absolutely, they can't take that from me exactly.
Speaker 4 (46:00):
So I just.
Speaker 1 (46:03):
The more and more you you you start to look
at some of the things that are being said, how
they're being said, how they're being presented. You question a
lot of what's happening with the media. You question it because,
like we talked about before, how do we frame these
things differently to the point of you're not just trying
(46:24):
to get clickbait. Everybody's always talking about, well you got
to have a hot take. How about having an honest tape?
How about having a one that is well just researched.
Speaker 2 (46:38):
Do you do you think we need a dial it back?
I mean, not us per se, but the media. Should
they be have more punishments, have more like when you
when you do stuff that's like Stephen A. Smith that
was so olandaic that he should miss a day, that's
how bad it was.
Speaker 4 (46:59):
Well the only take about him.
Speaker 1 (47:00):
Because of how much they have paid this young man
and what they've been able to do for him, it's
a little difficult, a little difficult for you to suspend
Steven A.
Speaker 4 (47:11):
Smith.
Speaker 2 (47:11):
I know he makes a lot of money and he's
one of the guys you want to expire to be
more like. But the clickbait stuff, he's turned into two
of the people that he used to complain about the
most he can.
Speaker 4 (47:26):
Man, he complained.
Speaker 2 (47:27):
About Skip Bayless all the time, and he's become Skip Bayless. Yeah,
these these these ridiculous takes.
Speaker 1 (47:36):
Make all media look bad when you do stuff like that. Well,
and that's the that's that's the point that I'm trying
to get to. It's like, I don't look, everybody's gonna
have their opinions. That can roll with them or not.
But I just think that what's the word that the
kids use their gas lighting?
Speaker 4 (47:51):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (47:52):
Gas I mean it is getting to the point now
where it's like, can we can we at least put
some common sense to the statement in which you're saying it.
I can hate I can't hate on Aaron Rodgers just
because I don't like him, and I'll say that. But
I'm not gonna go out there and just say that
(48:12):
this exactly.
Speaker 4 (48:14):
But but but but you gotta go viral. Yeah yeah, I.
Speaker 1 (48:19):
Mean at some point, oh, yeah, that's great. I want
to do if I'm gonna go viral. I wanted to
be funny.
Speaker 4 (48:25):
I wanted to be fun in wrestling terms. What is that?
Speaker 5 (48:29):
Man?
Speaker 1 (48:29):
I need you to take a week off and then
quit the business. I just then quit. Look, and I
normally am with Ryan Clark. I'm normally about listening to
what they got to say, because he is very thoughtful.
(48:50):
But again, the underachieving word of him is something that
that did he not meet your expectation? Okay, say that?
Why don't he just say hall of fame or both
of them? There's no denying either one of those guys
going into the Hall of Fame. They're not the Hall
(49:12):
of very Good. They're in the Hall of Fame, right,
So stop with the underachievement. Did he not win as
much as we thought he was after he won because
of his talent? Probably?
Speaker 4 (49:26):
Probably? But it is a team sport. Jordan Speith, he's.
Speaker 2 (49:32):
Just not saying what he really means. And I've heard
him on a couple other podcasts. He loves Mike Tomlin
and he feels, just like I do, that they're out
to get him and they're setting him up for failure
and he should just say that, Yeah, Mike Tomlin has
been a masculated He has no power.
Speaker 4 (49:52):
I don't believe in a million years.
Speaker 2 (49:55):
That they would have waited around, and Mike Tomlin would
have waited around for Aaron Rodgers. I don't believe that
he would have traded away Najee Harris. I don't believe
that him standing at the reins would have allowed.
Speaker 4 (50:11):
His wide receiver to be traded to Dallas.
Speaker 2 (50:14):
Like there's been too many holes poked in this team
that says, come on, man, you're not making these decisions.
Speaker 4 (50:21):
You can't be.
Speaker 2 (50:23):
You never done it before in his entire career. That
has never been this much movement in Mike Tomlin regime.
Speaker 4 (50:31):
Right, that has been a lot.
Speaker 2 (50:33):
Ryan Clark is just one of those guys that won't
say it.
Speaker 1 (50:36):
Nobody is saying I'll say it, But my problem is
why won't you say it.
Speaker 4 (50:41):
I don't know why.
Speaker 1 (50:42):
I think that that's why you're on there of the
ownership as being we're gonna we're gonna cut him, we
want him gone.
Speaker 4 (50:50):
But here's the deal you can have that. You can
have that conversation.
Speaker 5 (50:54):
Just do it.
Speaker 1 (50:55):
You're the media, you're not in their office, you're not
in the front office.
Speaker 14 (50:58):
Say it.
Speaker 4 (50:59):
You gotta say somebody told you, say what you feel.
Speaker 1 (51:02):
Say it with your chairs coming up next We're gonna
continue the conversations. Put some respect on my man's name.
Speaker 4 (51:10):
Y'all know what I'm talking about.
Speaker 1 (51:11):
We'll talk about it right here on the morning kickoff
on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone coming up
in the next segment. You do not want to miss
the world's strongest take. I don't know what's going on
over but coming up next, you don't want to miss
Mark's world's strongest take.
Speaker 4 (51:31):
But right now, we've been.
Speaker 1 (51:32):
Talking about putting respect on people's name and not going
crazy with the conversations. Now, I understand that this man
needs to win playoff games in a championship, but it
cannot be denied how talented this quarterback has been since
(51:52):
taking over the reins as the starter. Every time he plays,
the team is putting up big numbers, especially on the
offensive side. They put themselves in positions to win, and
there needs to be respect on his.
Speaker 4 (52:11):
Name when dak kresh Gott plays football.
Speaker 11 (52:17):
When was the last time they weren't a top ten offense?
Speaker 3 (52:20):
The answer is never.
Speaker 4 (52:21):
NFL ranking in.
Speaker 7 (52:22):
Yards for the Cowboys the last four healthy Dax seasons.
Speaker 3 (52:25):
One REEF top five in points, six.
Speaker 4 (52:29):
First, fourth, first, What are.
Speaker 7 (52:31):
We doing pretend that the Cowboys aren't going to have.
Speaker 4 (52:33):
A good offense.
Speaker 1 (52:34):
What are we doing pretending that the Cowboys are not
going to have a good offense? Now, I understand Jalen
Hurts super Bowl ring, then the two Super Bowls got
a ring, all that stuff. Jaydon Daniels did great, got
to the NFC Championship Game.
Speaker 4 (52:52):
Daniel Jones, ah, okay, whatever.
Speaker 1 (52:55):
But through Dak's career, against the Commanders when he starts,
he is eleven and two, against the Eagles he is
nine and four, and against the Giants he is thirteen
in two. That's why the Cowboys always have a chance.
(53:18):
That's why they are always in the mix. And for
everybody that always wants to pooh poop on Dak Prescott,
you can't argue about his regular season success.
Speaker 4 (53:31):
Now, if we want to have a debate.
Speaker 1 (53:32):
About playoffs and all that other stuff, we can have
that debate. But why is it that Dak Prescott is
the one that always always has to catch all the
smoke for failures of the Dallas Cowboy Hey, hey, hey, hey,
(53:57):
failures of the organization.
Speaker 4 (54:00):
And we talked about let's let's get away.
Speaker 2 (54:03):
From talking about the problems and started talking about the solution.
We complained last year Dallas defense was atrocious. They lacked
having other targets at wide receiver, the offensive line needed
(54:23):
more consistency, and lastly, the defensive line needed to be refortified.
They accomplished all four of those things this offseason. They
brought in two extremely good defensive linemen. They drafted well
at defensive end with a guy that.
Speaker 4 (54:46):
Everybody's saying he should he should play right now.
Speaker 2 (54:51):
Over the guys that they brought in, including one of
the most highly regarded guys that used to be with
the Cowboys before our got from manor right down the street.
Speaker 4 (55:05):
So like they fixed that.
Speaker 1 (55:08):
They brought in a wide receiver, not just any wide receiver,
but one of the top fifteen wide receivers in the NFL.
They drafted an offensive guard that pretty much could play
any position on the line of scrimmage other than center.
And that's just because I've never seen him do it. So, like,
(55:32):
let's get away from I want to see what Dak
is going to be able to do with all the fixes.
Shody coach Shoty is also somebody that's won me over.
I was, man, I'm telling you, I was one foot
in one foot out and the silence that he's put
(55:55):
through this organization when all the years of Jerry Jones
don't even noise, even if it's white noise.
Speaker 2 (56:03):
He wanted noise. The Cowboys don't have that. The only
time we talked about him is something positive. And that's
what brought me back because I'm telling you right now,
I was looking at other teams.
Speaker 4 (56:19):
Man.
Speaker 2 (56:19):
I was like, I was shopping for cars. I'm going
to every car dealer. Hey, what you got? Except for.
Speaker 4 (56:27):
It was gonna be co it was gonna be one
of the COVID brands. Wait wait, wait, wait, that's breaking news.
He said he's back. Well, he was dipping his toe
at nine wee last week, so he said, what you
mean weed?
Speaker 1 (56:42):
So I just want to put it in perspective last
year's team to to back up Mark's thought process. Last year,
the Cowboys were playing with Cooper Rush because Dak was hurt, Hamstring,
Ricodowdell ce d Lamb, Brandon and Cooks, Jalen Tovert and
(57:03):
Jake Ferguson.
Speaker 4 (57:06):
Now they have upgraded. They've got Dak back, They've got.
Speaker 1 (57:11):
Javonte Williams, who I'm still kind of ceedee Lamb George
Pickens as wide receiver two or one A as they
like to say. Jayalen Tovert is still gonna be the guy.
And you got Jake Ferguson at your tight end still.
So they have made some changes to your point. They
(57:32):
did upgrade and make some moves on the offensive line,
and Shoddy has already believed that they are going to
run the football. That will change a lot of this
thought process for the Dallas County.
Speaker 2 (57:48):
Do you remember with his father, and I mean, guys,
I'm not saying that he's gonna do the offense that
his father ran at the Chiefs and the play action
with Steve de Bergh and those guys like but the
apple doom fall far from the tree. Marty Scheintenheimer loved
(58:12):
to run the ball, and that is what his son
is gonna do. He said that he was going to
run the ball, yep, And I mean a clouder does
and tough defense, and with Dak Prescott being what you
always say, hard one of the better play action quarterbacks
(58:34):
in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (58:36):
YEP, he's going to get the opportunity to be that
guy and run the system that his father ran.
Speaker 2 (58:43):
I really do feel like that They're gonna have a
lot better season than all of these pronosticators are giving
them credit for.
Speaker 1 (58:53):
Yeah, I every time I continue to look forward to
the season, not to but all things are going. Every
game is going to be a tough game, no doubt
about it. But those records, when you look at what
he's been able to do. When it comes to the
NFC East, Cowboys are gonna be right there in the
(59:14):
mix because they played eage team twice. It's those games
that they have to play in between there all those
other teams. How is he going to perform? How is
everybody going to Detroit? And he's got to be healthy.
He's got to be healthy. But I will say this,
all signs and the people that I've talked to in
(59:34):
Dallas believe that Joe Milton changes the backup quarterback position greatly,
not just because of his arm, but because of his athleticism.
They don't have to change much because Cooper Rush, he
was limited.
Speaker 4 (59:52):
He was limited in the things that he could.
Speaker 1 (59:53):
Do, and he was limited if he had to have
to play for.
Speaker 4 (59:56):
An extended period of time.
Speaker 1 (59:59):
Now you've got to guy in Joe Milton, who is athletic,
who can move, who's got some about him, and the
upside is through the roof. So I don't see the
Cowboys changing that much. And I know everybody's online saying
they won when when Cooper was in there they won. Yeah,
(01:00:21):
look who they were playing in those particular moments and
how he won those games.
Speaker 4 (01:00:26):
They weren't making him try to.
Speaker 1 (01:00:28):
Try to try to win all the games like Mike
Mike McCarthy was trying to do it.
Speaker 4 (01:00:33):
So just manage it.
Speaker 2 (01:00:35):
You weren't expecting to get a Steve the Bird shot.
Speaker 1 (01:00:39):
No, nobody expects to see Why don't you just say,
Craig Morton, I mean, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (01:00:45):
I'm a Cowboy fan. You can't mention Steve the Bird
when I mentioned those banks te Kings right there very word.
Speaker 2 (01:00:57):
Hey, that's two sixty pounds of six to three madness.
Speaker 4 (01:01:03):
Oh, I just want to say, where you going with this?
But both of them? Yeah? Oh I remember christ Nerkoye
was over two hundred and fifty until he met until
he met uh.
Speaker 2 (01:01:11):
See, at Water changed his life.
Speaker 4 (01:01:14):
Yeah. He made you start seeing people who cuckoo for
cocoa puss. Come it up next. We're gonna talk to.
Speaker 1 (01:01:19):
The world's strongest Man as he brings you his world's
strongest take.
Speaker 4 (01:01:25):
You do not want to miss this one.
Speaker 1 (01:01:28):
Right here on the morning kickoff on Sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred des all the beat is here. You know
what that means. W WE Hall of Famer World's Strongest Man,
Deem Mark Hender brings you his world strongest take.
Speaker 4 (01:01:45):
Take it away, big fellow arch, what's up man? You
know what time it is?
Speaker 5 (01:01:50):
What time is it?
Speaker 1 (01:01:52):
It's time for the world's strongest take by the world's
strongest man. My god, back then they didn't know me.
Now I'm hot, They're all on me. Oh yeah, guys,
we got another ye oh.
Speaker 4 (01:02:10):
Yeah, oh yeah. We gotta, we gotta, we gotta. We
got a great take today.
Speaker 2 (01:02:16):
Because the Indiana Fever has turned into the w w E.
It seems like every week, every game now, not even
every week, every game that's played, there are fisticuffs, elbows,
(01:02:37):
flagrant files that come on, guys, I need y'all to
stop it. This is basketball, not pro wrestling. Secondly, the
officiating has got a change, because that's that's where it
all boils down to. You know, it's basketball, and I
(01:02:57):
know they love the sensationalism of having these women be
overly aggressive when that's not what we're wanting. We want
to see basketball, right, I mean, I'm just asking, we're
trying to see a basketball game.
Speaker 4 (01:03:13):
Oh, we tied to see Roland hockey. Lot of y'all
don't even remember roller hockeym But I digress. I kind
of want to watch roller hockey. Yeah, I mean, like,
what are you saying? Okay, I'm not talking to either
one of y'all.
Speaker 1 (01:03:26):
But last night Caitlyn Clark was up to her usual
Caitlyn Clark things, and she played a really, really good game.
Speaker 4 (01:03:39):
And scored from wherever she wanted to score.
Speaker 2 (01:03:42):
Had twenty points, had six assists, two steals. She played
a great game for what it was, and she didn't
even play max minutes. She played only twenty nine minutes
in the game. But early in the game, there was
a point where Kaitlyn Clark got fouled and it was
(01:04:05):
it was accident. I mean, you look at it. It
did not look like the girl was really intended on
hitting her in the face.
Speaker 1 (01:04:13):
She swiped at the ball and she hit her on
the chin. She didn't hit her in the eyes, she
didn't hit her in the neck. It was a grazing
blow just across the chin. Kaitlyn Clark folded up like
a wind to shade, made a big scene about it
and pushed her.
Speaker 4 (01:04:32):
She initiated it.
Speaker 1 (01:04:36):
So when the girl went after, one of her teammates
stepped up and Monica Maybray, I mean, she cam she
hockey checked her.
Speaker 4 (01:04:54):
I mean it was. It was like the Florida Panthers.
Speaker 2 (01:04:57):
And then Tina Charles she got a teck just because
she was standing there watching.
Speaker 4 (01:05:01):
I don't know why she got a tech.
Speaker 1 (01:05:04):
She didn't hit her, but it was I mean, the officiating,
the coaches, even both coaches after they on the press conference,
came out and said, we have to do better. Not
the players, not the coaches, but the officiating. I know
I'm gonna get fined. And then of course the other
(01:05:24):
coach said, well, if she gonna get a fine, I'm
gonna get a fine too, right, And I'm glad that
they had solidarity. But my take is all of this
will be eliminated if the officials were better about their jobs.
They said, every facet of women's basketball has improved. The
(01:05:47):
gate has improved, the teams, the locker rooms, the money,
the players are better. You can go through the history
of women's basketball, and there's not going to be many
that's better than Asia Wills.
Speaker 4 (01:06:04):
It's just not.
Speaker 1 (01:06:07):
But the officiating has not improved. What's they you, Well,
let's get to where this all started. You mentioned it.
They got a foul at the half the free throw
line that kind of initiated the whole thing.
Speaker 4 (01:06:22):
I mean, is that displacement? I think it is. Oh,
Marina Babery is going to get ejected. If the officials
saw that, Marina Babery is.
Speaker 9 (01:06:31):
Going to get objected, They're going to go and look
at it.
Speaker 4 (01:06:36):
Look at baby.
Speaker 7 (01:06:38):
She's she's got a scar on one side, scratch on
one side of her face, scratch on the other side.
Speaker 4 (01:06:43):
It's not for the game today. And I asked her
about it. She's always in the mix. There's a lot
of contact here. Yeah, that's that was Marina.
Speaker 1 (01:06:53):
Yeah, it was on that one and that was the
I'm talking about it in the first part.
Speaker 4 (01:06:57):
Of the game. Well, here's the second part of all
that as well, by Algy and Sheldon comes up with
the steel Fella goes to couch man. Here's who got another.
Speaker 14 (01:07:11):
Breaks here, and Jessy Shelley goes right after your sofa
coming games.
Speaker 4 (01:07:15):
There's a hard found no question, you're playing with this
song on the officials time. There you are.
Speaker 2 (01:07:27):
The officials not doing their jobs, and Caitlyn is not
helping the situation because she is pushing people. And then
she'll walk off and turn her back and then get
hit and play the victim. No, if you if you
push me or you hit me, you better stand face
to face because you're gonna catch one. So she's got
(01:07:49):
a woman up and quit walking away like she didn't
do anything.
Speaker 1 (01:07:54):
It's just interesting to me when you when you look
at the game and the interest that is there. There's
a ton of interest in women's basketball. We've gone through
the numbers. Anytime Caitlin Clark is on the floor, people
want to watch her. Paige Beckers just got a win,
(01:08:15):
a first home win. As the Dallas Wings get their
w she's gonna bring up the fan base. She's gonna
bring up the fan base as well because of the talent.
When they play each other, it's gonna be even better.
But what I've seen from the Indiana Fever WNBA and
all those that are involved, it's the fact that they
(01:08:37):
have all found a way to create this spotlight for
their organization.
Speaker 4 (01:08:43):
College. I mean college basketball is.
Speaker 1 (01:08:45):
Growing too, but if WNBA with her being out there, yeah,
they want to see some scrapping.
Speaker 4 (01:08:51):
They want to show that they can they tough.
Speaker 1 (01:08:54):
But the one thing about it is, I'm just glad
it wasn't Angel Reese this time.
Speaker 4 (01:09:00):
You know what I'm saying, because they.
Speaker 5 (01:09:01):
Would have been.
Speaker 4 (01:09:01):
They would have been tearing her apart right now.
Speaker 2 (01:09:03):
They need to turn those microphones down because what I heard,
all of their mothers are gonna beat.
Speaker 1 (01:09:13):
I just know that this is this has been fun
to watch. I've been enjoying the journey. This is not
only you talking about it. I talked about it earlier.
We've talked more w n B A than we ever have.
And I'm sitting up watching these games because now Angel
(01:09:33):
not angelies, but Kaitlyn Clark is the villain of the
NBA and she ain't even trying to be. It's all
of these players that are so mad and so jealous
that they're all taking us. Get over your jealousy. Yes,
send her a Christmas card. They do, but it's got
a bunch of cold in it too. They're not giving
(01:09:55):
her no love. Another great car, strongest man. When we
I'm back. We'll close out the show. Send you to
Dan Patrick. We have an Nahil Lord. Stanley Cup has
back to Florida, and oh yeah, college baseball continues and
we'll talk about it right here on the Morning Kickoff
on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Welcome back
(01:10:19):

If you did, we got you covered. Get over to
that new and improved Heart Radio app.
Speaker 4 (01:10:32):
It's always free. All you got to do.
Speaker 1 (01:10:35):
Is look for the podcast page type in the Morning
Kickoff and you can catch up on all of the shows.
I want to thank Danny Davis of the Austin American
Statesman for joining us as he breaks down Texas women's basketball.
They're scheduling, and of course we talk recruiting and baseball
transfer portal. We will be off tomorrow Andrew Zimo will
(01:10:59):
be running the show.
Speaker 4 (01:11:00):
He'll be having our show for us.
Speaker 1 (01:11:03):
We are taking the day off, but we will be
back on Friday for more Morning Kickoff as we break
it all down. So do not tune in tomorrow, Well,
do tune in tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (01:11:17):
That's gonna say, tune in to that in.
Speaker 1 (01:11:18):
Our guys, Zimo will be holding it down as always.
Speaker 4 (01:11:21):
It was like, hey, why am I catching my head?
Zim got our back.
Speaker 1 (01:11:26):
We were taking the day off, but we do want
to make sure that you understand that the Lord Stanley's
Cup has found this its way back to the Florida Panthers.
Speaker 9 (01:11:38):
As they saying, hockey, let's do that hockey the Panthers
to get your.
Speaker 15 (01:11:45):
Show the Panthers sh.
Speaker 4 (01:12:23):
And I wanted to point this out.
Speaker 1 (01:12:25):
A US based team has won the Stanley Cup for
thirty one straight seasons. Think about that, thirty one straight
seasons in a sport that was invented across the pond. Wow.
Speaker 4 (01:12:44):
Man, I'm gonna tell you something.
Speaker 2 (01:12:45):
I was expecting us to pull it out, whether it
was Nashville or Florida, yep. But man, Winnipeg and Montreal
always have I mean, Canada's.
Speaker 4 (01:13:01):
Always got great, great hockey, no doubt.
Speaker 2 (01:13:03):
And you know, I mean, if there was a Russian
team in the league, I'm sure that you know every
team has at least two Russian players on it, right,
they would have great teams. But the way that professional
ranks are Florida that this team is young man. Listen,
think like one of the oldest guys on the team
(01:13:23):
is like thirty three.
Speaker 4 (01:13:25):
Well, I'm gonna tell you right now.
Speaker 1 (01:13:26):
I can't pronounce this guy's name, but let me just
tell you this.
Speaker 4 (01:13:30):
How many continents he played through some pain?
Speaker 14 (01:13:36):
Do you think the average fan has any idea what
you went through?
Speaker 4 (01:13:39):
And what did you go through?
Speaker 14 (01:13:41):
I tore my ad oufter off the bone, and that
had some hernia thing and all on the same side,
and I want to throw in the towel a.
Speaker 4 (01:13:52):
Bunch of times.
Speaker 14 (01:13:54):
I'm sure I gotta thank a lot of people, I
mean for getting me healthy enough. And sure I wasn't
the easiest to deal with. I mean, by fiance did
a great trump of the house on days right. Probably
wasn't the UH in the best mood coming to the
rank of trainers. Maybe when I wasn't in the best mood,
when I was in pain, I just owed him so
much the doctors and uh, I really didn't think I'd
(01:14:16):
be playing and UH or at least playing my capabilities.
So the longer the playoffs went, the better I felt.
And UH, I owe that to the guys for giving
me some weight over him to feel good.
Speaker 4 (01:14:28):
Matthew, he is tripping, Matthew hard.
Speaker 2 (01:14:32):
I streamed my adductor before he ripped off the bone.
Cried yeah, real tears and this dude his came off
the bone.
Speaker 4 (01:14:42):
The bone finished it. And then he says, I got
something to Hernie.
Speaker 1 (01:14:46):
Yeah, I got he got something else on the same side,
on the same sign.
Speaker 4 (01:14:51):
Hey.
Speaker 2 (01:14:51):
I don't know what they was giving him, but I
want some because I'm in pain right now.
Speaker 4 (01:14:57):
Yeah it was Uh, I woke up hurt. That is crazy.
Speaker 2 (01:15:01):
What an unbelievable specimen man to be able to go
through that.
Speaker 1 (01:15:04):
In other news, we have the College World Series continues
to roll on. Last night, Louisville defeated Oregon State and
walk off fashion after Oregon State rallied in the ninth.
Speaker 4 (01:15:20):
Louisi Louisiana.
Speaker 1 (01:15:22):
Louisville gets to win and walk off sacrifice fly to advance.
Now they will play Coastal Carolina today at one and
LSU and Arkansas are at.
Speaker 4 (01:15:32):
It again tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:15:34):
Big time performances by all of these teams.
Speaker 4 (01:15:37):
So now we get to move on.
Speaker 1 (01:15:39):
But I want to ask you this Mark June seventeenth,
twenty thirteen, that was a special day for you. I
was hopeful that you would walk in with your salmon
jacket and be ready.
Speaker 4 (01:15:55):
I just want to come here with the pink jacket on,
and I'll be looking at Marcus like the lions jacket.
Today is going to be a tough day.
Speaker 2 (01:16:08):
Oh my god, tell everybody about that day, Mark, Well,
that was That was the day. Yesterday was the day,
the anniversary of my retirement speech, and it's become the
most iconic thing that I did in my career wrestling.
(01:16:28):
I posted a picture of me in the jacket saying
that's what I do and all the things that came
along with it. I got a lot left in the tank.
We just had last week. T Paine put his face
on my retirement speech pink jacket picture and uh and
(01:16:51):
posted something. I promptly hit him back and was like, hey, man,
you gotta say all of them.
Speaker 4 (01:16:56):
You're gonna say any of you gotta say all of it.
Speaker 2 (01:16:58):
He was so elated that I called and was like, man,
thank you for the for the for the for the.
Speaker 4 (01:17:06):
Just the support. Yeah. Like, uh, it was a great
moment in my career. Man. It gave me new life.
Speaker 2 (01:17:12):
And uh, unfortunately my body was so beat up at
that time that I was not able to uh capitalize
on that fame for a couple of years, like most
people would love to.
Speaker 1 (01:17:25):
Lucky boy Goldberg. Now yeah, Goldberg, he's back yep. So
now we got to get him back on the air.
So we had Goldberg go on. We got to get
him back.
Speaker 4 (01:17:34):
Ye good stuff, man.
Speaker 1 (01:17:36):
I saw that, and I thought that I was hopeful
you walking here with that jacket off.
Speaker 4 (01:17:43):
And say that's what you do.
Speaker 5 (01:17:46):
Hey.
Speaker 1 (01:17:46):
I want to thank everybody for tuning in, remember listening
to Andrew Zimmo tomorrow morning, Mark, Marcus and I will
be back on Friday.
Speaker 4 (01:17:54):
Can't wait to chop it all up.
Speaker 1 (01:17:56):
But as always, thank you to Mark Henry, thank you
to Marcus, and thank you you the people for always
being loyal and tuning in. And as always, don't believe
everything you see, because even salt looks like sugar.
