Speaker 3 (02:14):
But right now I want to get right into it. Mark.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Yesterday, there was something amazing that happened at the College
World Series and When I say amazing, I mean something
that has only happened three times in college baseball history
during the World Series, and that was a man going
out there and being the most dominant person he could
(02:37):
possibly be.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
And everybody is standing at Charles Schwapfield.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
One strike from.
Speaker 4 (02:45):
History, one ball, two strikes would deals, Yes, Calfric perhaps wod.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
His teammates again.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
Everybody's starting out of a bullpen.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
The third no hitter when.
Speaker 4 (03:12):
College World Series history is pitched by Arkansas's gage Wood.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
What now moment in Omaha. It doesn't get any better
than that.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Gage Wood goes out and throws almost almost a perfect
game in the College World Series. The beautiful part about
this all is they were about to be eliminated. This
was an elimination game for Arkansas, who I believe was
(03:56):
going to win the College World Series just because of
the fact that their coach Van Horn has never won it.
He's one of the greatest coaches to ever coach the
game of baseball, and he has never won the College
World Series. And so here they are on the verge
of elimination, and you start to understand what it looks
(04:19):
like in those moments, and for a pitcher like Gagewood,
who Texas lost to earlier in the year when they
got swept by Arkansas in Arkansas. Yeah, he went out
and secured the fact. On a three to nothing.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
Almost almost perfect game.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
He threw a curveball that hit the batter in the foot,
and then he threw another one later in the game
that hit a batter at home plate, but they ruled
him out because they said he leaned into the pitch
and it will strike two.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
But not only that, did he throw a no hitter.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
He had nineteen strikeouts, nineteen and I watched every single
one of those pitches.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
I've been a part of two no hitters in my life.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
One I was playing defense behind a no hitter and
the other one I was batting against a no hitter
being thrown against us. So we know what happened exactly,
and we had opportunities. We hit the ball hard, but
they had great plays behind them.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
I was never part of a nineteen strikeout game.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
That could have been twenty if he didn't hit that
guy with the curveball. And there's twenty seven outs in
the ball game. Think about that, twenty seven outs. He
struck out thirteen of the first eighteen batters that he
faced in an elimination game. It is the first no
hitter in sixty five years of the College World Series.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
So he's a lock for being a top five pick.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
Now he's not a top five pick, but he is
a top pick. He's supposed to be in the first round.
He's a first rounder. I want one of those guys.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
He's the first round when they step up in the
big moment, because you know that nothing's gonna rattle them though.
They're just gonna get better. Yep, yep, that's just the
way my outlook on the whole thing. But hard I'm
gonna tell you right now, a no hitter haven't been
done since nineteen sixty That's good enough.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
Yeah, that's good enough. It's gotta be.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
I mean, that young man has come out there and
put that team on his back. And the beautiful thing
about it is and for those that were watching, they
truly understand. And those that have been around the game
as long as I have, and some a lot longer.
Jim Gideon, I believe he was the one who threw
it at for the University of Texas at the World Series.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
I could be wrong. I could be wrong, but anyway.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
You look at how this was about to happen.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
This young man was throwing ninety.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Seven miles per hour on his one hundred and fourteenth
pitch of the game.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
You remember you're talking me off the tower about when
Texas played Arkansas. I was like, man, man, how they
do is like that? And you said, hey, hey, that
pitch is good.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
I was like, that's one of the best teams in baseball.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
He said all around, he said, just back down like
they good? Yep, like really good?
Speaker 3 (07:33):
I mean yes, And they could win the whole thing.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
And for the thought process of going into a game
where you know there is no tomorrow and them coming
out of the losers bracket, it's something that you needed
a guy like Gage to be able.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
Well, he pitched like there was no tomorrow. That's what
you want. That's what you want. You want a guy
like that.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
You want a guy that is going to save your
bullpen because you got to continue to play, right, You
got to continue to go. You got games today, that skill,
same thing, elimination. You got to continue to push through.
So when when you get a guy like that to
go out there and save your bullpen for the journey
(08:24):
that's ahead of you, that says a lot.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
That says a lot. Yeah, I hope that Texas can
get some guys that.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
Or develop some guys, which they feel like they have
some of those guys already.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
But listening to.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
Coach Lapsenegle talk about the future, he sounded very optimistic.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
Well, it's interesting that you say that, Mark Nice segue
nice segue into that right there. Texas just did get
a new picture committed to this.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
I'm in a transfer in a transfer portal.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
He's Luke Dotson, left handed pitcher from Mississippi State. He
is a hard throwing pitcher that is needed from this
transfer portal. He's done a lot for Mississippi State and
for Texas to be able to grab him in the
transfer portal is something that Texas has been talking about.
(09:24):
You pair him up with what Dylan Valantis has been
able to do on that pitching staff. You've got some
young guys that are coming in that are going to
have an opportunity to develop as well.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
So this was a big time move for Texas.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
To go out and get a left handed pitcher like
Luke Dotson to be able to come and help Texas
on the mound.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
Let's go man, coach Slasnigga said he needed a left
in and he got one, and.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
He's been in the portal doing some amazing things already.
There's a bunch of guys that are out there that
have now and committed to the University of Texas throughout
the transfer portal.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
We'll talk a little bit more about that later, but
they have.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
Done some amazing things and continue to find a way
to now make that move.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
We talked about the scholarships.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
We'll talk to Joe Cook of Inside Texas coming up
at seven point thirty four to talk all things Texas
football recruiting, but I'll also get some insight to him
on the baseball aspect. Joe is a great baseball mind,
loves the game and used to cover it all the time.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
So it is.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
Something that as a Texas baseball fan, this is where
we go. This is not like they say, and we go.
This is the time for Texas to go. Because when
Swasnego got here last year, it was right after the
College World Series and they had just played in the game,
and you didn't even know who he was gonna have
(10:55):
on his staff. He didn't know what coaching staff, he
didn't know what pitchers. He was gonna have, you know
what players were going to be staying at the University
of Texas.
Speaker 3 (11:04):
Now he has that whole season, that offseason to.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
Go out and get what he's been looking for, and
now we're starting to see that happen. But shout out
to Gage Wood of being able to throw a no
hitter in the College World Series with his teams back
up against the wall.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
We're just getting started.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
On the Turn Up Tuesday edition of The Morning Kickoff.
Coming up next, we're gonna talk OKC as they are
one went away from being a champion. We'll talk about
it right here on the Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio
and thirteen hundred Lizagne. Coming up at seven thirty four,
we'll talk to our guy, Joe Cook up inside Texas
(11:48):
as he breaks down the Texas Longhorn Big recruiting weekend
and everything that goes along with that. We'll also ask
him about Texas baseball as well. But right now, let's
get into the OKC thunders victory. Come on for the
Indiana Pacers one twenty to one nineteen and the story
(12:10):
of the game.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
It's Tyrese Halliburton.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
Tyrese I am gone missing in action Halliburton Tyrese.
Speaker 3 (12:21):
I missed the overrated Halliburton.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
Now the big numbers, okay, see, is one of the
best teams in the NBA. They've been that way all
season long. They are thirty five and six at home.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
Listen, it's been a while since I've seen a gown
of milk Carton that I saw on television.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
Exactly, and he is definitely Tyrese.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
Halliburton is going to be the topic a little bit
later because, as you saw, he was dealing with an injury.
But the story of the game is Jalen Williams and
what he was able to do in an unbelievable player.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
Williams drives, that's beautiful.
Speaker 4 (13:03):
Luck hands scroop shot off the glass.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
He's got twenty six five seconds. Williams on the drive,
puts up the shot.
Speaker 4 (13:12):
Packs ahead and rob us top shot from Taylor Williams
and Wallace grabs it.
Speaker 5 (13:19):
That's ga the drive knock out the door right side.
Speaker 3 (13:22):
Jalen Williams a three.
Speaker 4 (13:24):
As Taylor Williams knocks a down his team only down six.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
Then the Pacers have another miraculous comeback.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
Williams gets inside like I'm sure such talents after the contact.
Speaker 3 (13:40):
On the drive, kicks it out Williams. Williams to the rock,
high off the glasses, got out. He's got it again.
Speaker 6 (13:46):
H he game one of the TOPLIS Finals at Madison
Square Gardens.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
He can get high. Williams is the middle of the night
pulling away.
Speaker 4 (13:55):
Got it forty coins from Jaylor Williams.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
Jalen Williams was the answer to the question.
Speaker 5 (14:04):
He was the truth.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
He gave you what he said he was going to do,
and that was come out and play well. Fourteen of
twenty five, nine of twelve from the free throw line.
But it was more than that. It was more than
just Jalen Williams. It was the way he was attacking
the entire time. He wasn't missing open jumpers. I saw PJ.
(14:26):
Tucker shooting the other day and they said NBA players
don't miss. And this was during warm ups, this was
during the training session, and you start to understand it's
a fact they just don't miss. And the way that
they played yesterday, even though they were fighting back, the
Pacers were fighting back.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
TJ. McConnell, we'll talk about him in a little bit.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
But.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
OKSE is just different.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
Not only are they different, but They're just loaded hard.
They have so much talent. This might be the most
talented team we've seen in probably ten fifteen years, depth wise,
not individually. I mean, you had the Big Three, and
you had the Spurs with the Javid Robinson and Tim Duncan,
(15:13):
and you had a.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
Team like.
Speaker 2 (15:17):
Dallas who Dirk and Lewinsky and all the compliments of
the team that they had, and the Lakers teams.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
But a team with eight guys that could start, where
do you find that? Nowhere?
Speaker 2 (15:34):
And the guys that are the core four I called
them because they could do with or without having Dort
and the shooting guard. Small four position for Oklahoma City
is whatever because they can put anybody in those roles.
Everybody plays the same role. It's almost the true definition
(15:58):
of positionless basketball because the two guard, the small forward,
power forward, they all play the same thing. Jalen plays
it all three positions. Dort plays all three positions, and
so does Caruso play all three positions. Caruso was playing
(16:22):
Joker defending him, and so does Dort.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
And Jalen.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
There's not been a team with this much depth like that. Yes,
I'm just I'm I'm thinking hard that they can even
be better as a team. As a team, they don't
need nothing else. They can bring back identically the same
team next year and win again.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
Yeah, because they play resentable. You know, they play relentless defense.
For sure, they get after you the entire time. I
guess Caruso heard me hyping him up. So you Yueshterday
he only scored two points and just wasn't the same.
But he did have four steals. He had a bunch
of hustle plays. He continues to wreck havoc. But Jalen
Williams and what he was able to do along with
(17:14):
Shay Gilchris Alexander with the thirty one points, but they
combined for seventy one of their one hundred and twenty points.
Two guys, two guys showed up. And then you look
at what happened with India. Indiana. Pascal Siakam was unbelievable,
(17:34):
twenty eight points. He was playing hard, he was helpful,
he was blocking, he was running the floor. But then
you have what we saw from TJ. McConnell. He had
to step up, he had to step up. He's one
of those guys undersized, but like you said, the heart
of a lion. But The story is Tyrese Halliburton. We
(17:56):
know he's not healthy. He looked like he wasn't healthy.
But for him to only take six shots in the
ballgame when we know that he is their playmaker, that
cannot happen. And people were talking about that after the
ball game, about Tyrese Haliburton being hurt.
Speaker 3 (18:21):
He had four turnovers in the first Here.
Speaker 7 (18:24):
I don't want to be rude because the Pacers are
that team that are if Tyrese Haliburton is here, this
series is going seven. You're missing your best, your closer,
your floor leader. Even when he was out there pobbling
on one leg, he was making that ball pop in
that third beginning.
Speaker 3 (18:39):
Of that fourth quarter.
Speaker 5 (18:40):
Right.
Speaker 7 (18:40):
So for me, even him at fifty percent is good.
But here's a problem. If he's at fifty percent, they
gonna find you. They like to irs. Look, they gonna
find him.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
In this day.
Speaker 3 (18:51):
They didn't go at him.
Speaker 1 (18:52):
I thought of the second half.
Speaker 7 (18:53):
I think they're gonna watch film and go why did
we leave him off the hook? And then they're gonna
put him in different actions. See if he switches, if
they're putting two on them, that's barbecue chicken. So he's
got to figure it out and try to get as
healthy as possible to get the Pacers a chance.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
Yeah, apparently barbecue chicken is got another meaning. Now, Yeah, man,
like definitely gonna be barbecue chicken. They're going to scheme
to put in a position to defend the entire game,
and that leg is not gonna be able to stand
up to it.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
They don't play until Thursday, so he has a few
days to try to get better and be healthy. But
for him to still not be aggressive, Yeah, he has
to be aggressive.
Speaker 3 (19:33):
That is his ball.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
I don't think he could get off on his first
step dribbling. And he had four turnovers in the first half. Yeah,
that's I mean four turnovers in a game.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
You know there's.
Speaker 2 (19:46):
Guys that don't have four turnovers in a series.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
Well, he had four. He had four in the in
the game, and he was he was so ineffective that
he sat on the bench most of the time. But
again that's why TJ. M connell was able to do
what he was able to do. But for Tyrese Halliburton,
he telling, he's telling everybody he's got to play through it.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
I mean gonna be a finals.
Speaker 8 (20:09):
It's the finals, man, I worked my whole life to
be here, and I want to be out there to compete,
you know, help my teammates anyway I can. You know,
I was not great tonight by any means, but uh,
you know, it's not really a thought of mine to
not play here. You know, if I fucking, uh you know,
walk them, then I want to play. So you know
(20:32):
they understand that, and uh, you know is what it is.
And uh, you know, got to be ready to go
for game six.
Speaker 3 (20:38):
You got to be ready to go for game six
because there is no tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (20:42):
Yeah, and and Mattherne and Nate Smith they got to
step up. Yeah, they've got to do better. And you
know the guy, you know, your teammate is hurt, and
you you you want to have productive minutes when you're
out there. And I don't think either one of those
guys played, uh they like they did.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
Early in this series.
Speaker 1 (21:02):
Well, you had twenty eight from Siakam, Natesmith gave you fourteen,
Miles Turner was thirteen, and Obi Topping had twelve.
Speaker 3 (21:13):
But all of those guys were in.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
The minuses except for TJ McConnell, he was plus four.
Everybody else the starting lineup was awful. Was awful when
it came down to it. Points are one thing, but
the efficiency of what they needed was something else.
Speaker 3 (21:31):
And now they have to go back to India and
half the team the.
Speaker 1 (21:35):
Ball and you got to get a chance to get
out there.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
And make something happen.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
They had twenty two turnovers in the loss to only
eleven by OKC. Coming up next, we talked to Joe
Cook of Inside Texas talking all things Longhorns and recruiting
is heating up right here on the morning kickoff on
sports Radio and thirteen hundred. I was thrown off for
(22:02):
a second. I was like, wait a minute, what are
they doing? But you know what that means. That means
I'm giving you a chance to win a pair of
tickets to go see Laney Wilson September to eighteenth at
the Moody Center.
Speaker 3 (22:14):
All you got to do is get.
Speaker 1 (22:15):
Over to that iHeartRadio app, tap that red microphone on
a thirteen hundred the zone, and leave the keyword break.
Break is the keyword to win a pair of tickets
to go see Laney Wilson September the eighteenth at the
Moody Center. Be listening all week for a chance to
win all right, since we were talking basketball and what's
(22:38):
been going on in the NBA, it's only right that
we have our Screaming a Smith segment and Screaming a
Smith had to nerve to say this about a special
player in the NBA.
Speaker 4 (22:54):
What's one word you would use to describe Giannis's career
if he doesn't win another title?
Speaker 5 (22:59):
And did you an the achiever?
Speaker 3 (23:03):
Now? He called him an under what achiever?
Speaker 1 (23:08):
So what ends up happening when you have a former
top draft pick superstar at dude? Jay Will comes onto
the set and he goes at Steven A.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
Smith. That was one of your worst takes I've heard
in a long time.
Speaker 5 (23:25):
Man, that was horrible.
Speaker 3 (23:28):
I am.
Speaker 9 (23:32):
I had to, you know, like I'm the little brother
that has filled with the venoms sometimes when you and
I go out each other and it's all low because
I always it's always love. But I think we really
need to do a better job of reframing some of
these conversations. Right, And if you were to say that
the franchise, the Milwaukee Bucks have underachieved or the biggest
(23:56):
underachievers with the talent of Giannis fair but a guy
who has a fifty point closeout game, a guy who's
never chased any of these dream team scenarios, a guy
who's a Finals MVP, a guy who's a multi time
All Star, All NBA, all everything, global face of the game.
(24:19):
The fact that he brought an NBA championship to Milwaukee
to Milwaukee in the midst of the fire that he did.
To call him an underachiever, I just think it's an
as a nine comment, because then if we go through history,
we're calling a lot of these other great players who
have won one NBA championship, which, by the way, you
(24:39):
know how hard it is to win a championship, It's
one of the hard It's like, Okay, my college career,
I'm an underachiever because my freshman and my junior year
we lost to Florida.
Speaker 5 (24:50):
And Sweet sixteen, and we lost to.
Speaker 9 (24:52):
Indiana and Sweet sixteen, and both of them went on
to lose in a national championship game.
Speaker 3 (24:56):
But I got one my sophomre year. So I'm an
underachiever because I should have more.
Speaker 9 (25:01):
So you're calling Alan Iverson an underachiever, You're calling Dirk
an underachiever, You're calling kg an underchiever. You just called
Oscar Robinson an underchiever, because they've all got one championship.
Speaker 10 (25:16):
What you just said is one of the most insanely
idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in
your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything
that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this
room is now dumber for having listened to it. I
(25:37):
award you no points, and may God have mercy on
your soul. Unbelievable that he would even say that.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
You know, he's out of control his ego and the
fact that he thinks that he's a star athlete, he
is a star in the media. But you got to
know your role, to quote the great want Ryan Simmons,
because that's where the Rock got it from. You gotta
(26:06):
know your role. You gotta know your position. You gotta
stay in your lane, as the great LeVar Ball would say,
whatever cliche that it takes for you to know where
you shouldn't step out of. And that's what Jay was saying.
Speaker 11 (26:24):
And is the key to it all is stephen A's
facial expression as Jay is just dressing him down.
Speaker 3 (26:31):
He's given that I can't believe you're getting back at me.
Speaker 1 (26:35):
Look, well, the thing about it is and again it
is all so different at times, it is amazing how
all this stuff kind of goes down. But the one
thing that drives me nuts is the fact that how
people always want to quantify what they consider being an
(26:56):
underachiever or an overachiever or so he's just wrong, That's
what I'm saying. But like he said, we gotta start
framing things. As we control these microphones, we have to
start framing things a little bit better. We can't just
throw crazy stuff out there because now they will check you.
Speaker 3 (27:15):
Now you will be called out on falsehoods.
Speaker 1 (27:19):
And for him to say that Giannis is an MVP
of the championship, He's won, He's been the MVP of
the league multiple times.
Speaker 3 (27:29):
He's never chased anything.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
No, And if you were to say we're gonna do
a draft of the entire NBA, all the players starting
all over from scratch, every team, We're gonna do a lottery,
and you're gonna pick the teams like that, John's would
be one of the top five players picked. Every time
every human on earth that's watched the basketball be dribbled,
(27:54):
we'll pick Giannis in the top five picks.
Speaker 11 (27:57):
Yeah, But that's also that's another thing reason why these
players started joining each other because takes like that you're
underachiever because you haven't won the chip.
Speaker 3 (28:07):
Come on, man, yeah, I.
Speaker 2 (28:08):
Mean Charles Barkley has been getting it for years. But
Shack does it jokingly. He knows who Charles Barkley was.
Charles Barkley has had at least twenty to thirty players
kind of be what he became.
Speaker 3 (28:30):
But they will never be a six' five guy doing.
Speaker 2 (28:34):
It Jaylen williams is the closest Thing i've seen through.
Speaker 1 (28:37):
Him If jalen's about to win a championship And barkley
doesn't have. One so that's why people say. That but
his abilities are you can't say he ain't.
Speaker 3 (28:49):
Good you, know he's one of the. Time get it
out of.
Speaker 1 (28:54):
Here that is the thing that sometimes you just put
itself on punishment that he needs.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
To go in and, say, hey do your own.
Speaker 1 (29:01):
JOB i WAS i miss, SMOKED i, Misspoke that's WHAT i.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
Did coming up, next we're gonna Talk Texas state to
THE pac. Twelve what don't go?
Speaker 1 (29:12):
Anywhere we roll on here in just a moment with
my Man keV sardello as he Talks pack twelve right

wood throwing a no hitter in The College World, series
first one in sixty five. Years we talked To okay
see defeating The Indiana pacers won twenty ONE o. Nine
we also had a lot Of Texas longhorns, talk and
of course we got Steven a getting.
Speaker 3 (29:55):
Checked but right now we're gonna go down To Slam.
Speaker 1 (29:59):
Marcus beautif Full San marcus and my Man kef crdello
as he gets ready to TALK pac.
Speaker 3 (30:06):
Twelve he is the host of The Win now Or
Get bent.
Speaker 1 (30:10):
Podcasts you can follow him on social media AT Kef
Underscore Cee. Kef thank you for joining us this, morning,
man because there is a lot happening when it comes
to The bobcats and their possible.
Speaker 6 (30:24):
Move, hey there's a lot going on in sports in
general this time. Year the fact that The bobcats make
the docket is. Wonderful there must be something big happening
right now in, there and they're sures with all THIS
pac twelve.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
Rumors so tell us about THE pac twelve. Rumors it
looks like they are the. Team Texas state has been
getting a lot of love from all of the people
in THE pac twelve with the expansion of it, all
and we could hear some news pretty.
Speaker 5 (30:51):
Soon, yes you know.
Speaker 6 (30:54):
What this has been something going back all the way
to last, summer these rumors started to trickle in about
hey could Tech To state potentially moved to THE pac
twelve with with all these other, teams When Boise, State Fresno,
State San Diego, state when all Those West coast teams
were joining up in the NEW pac, twelve all of a,
Sudden texas name dropped in And i'm sitting here In San, marcus,
(31:14):
like that's how is that? Possible that's that's A West coast.
Conference this has to be just a. Rumor and then
as the, season as it's got closer to the, season
started to become more of a reality where these rumors
actually had. Legs when you start asking people about it
and they don't they don't want to talk about, It it's, like,
oh you guys are actually negotiating with. Conferences so it's
(31:35):
it's been a slow draw since. Then it's been, like
is it gonna. Happen maybe maybe since Around october or
when the when the rumors still really started to ramp.
Up but now with WITH unlv is a team that
THE pac twelve was looking, at they needed to register
to exit their conference By june first or else the
(31:55):
exit fees were going to be a whole lot and
once that date, passed then that When Texas state became
the official first team that they're looking at FOR pac twelve.
Realignment it's crazy that it's that college football has come
to this where we're probably looking at THE pac twelve
In San, marcus but it's looking more and more like
a reality every.
Speaker 1 (32:15):
Day so let me ask you, this because of the
fact of this being the conversation and a lot of
news coming out of college football is being about THE
pac twelve and trying to get it back. Together is
this something That Texas state was looking for or was
there another conference that they truly wanted to get.
Speaker 6 (32:38):
Into you, KNOW i think the goal here was was
just to expand the media, rights steal how much money they're.
Making you cheer because right Now Texas state's in The
Sunbelt conference making just under two million dollars a. Year,
now if you know about these other media rights steals
obviously have Like texas and THE sec where they're making
(32:58):
somewhere fifty sixty.
Speaker 5 (32:59):
Million who knows exactly how much it.
Speaker 6 (33:01):
Is it's way way more than two, million and some
of these OTHER g five.
Speaker 5 (33:05):
Schools and with revenue.
Speaker 6 (33:07):
Sharing when you can share twenty point five million dollars
per year with you with your athletes coming, up that
that media right steal money is going to be more
and more, important and The bobcats they want to at
least get close to that as much as they. Can
so moving up from two million a year was important
because they did actually have an offer during the football
(33:27):
season to join The Mountain West, conference And i'm not
exactly sure how much that. IS i think it's around
four million a, year which would be an increase from
where The bobcats, were but when you put into account
travel and, everything it wouldn't have been worth. It so
they've been holding out for THE pac twelve because they
knew THE pac twelve that would have been an, option
and they don't know exactly where that's going to land at,
(33:49):
them how much money the annual payout with the NEW pac,
twelve what that's gonna look like is could be somewhere
between eight and fifteen. Million most people are thinking it's
going to land around ten eleven million per, year which
is a significant amount more For Texas.
Speaker 5 (34:02):
State and if you want.
Speaker 6 (34:04):
To position yourself in this new college football landscape where
it's looking like these power conferences are going to break
off and they're going to do their own, thing if
you want to have your have your shot at potentially joining,
that this is the way to do.
Speaker 5 (34:17):
It is it the SAME pac twelve that it was
just a few years.
Speaker 6 (34:20):
Ago, no not even, close but it's at least and
at least gets them closer than The Sun belt. Would
AND i think that's the, motivation especially with the school president,
here Doctor Kelly, Danfis he's been very motivated by by
making athletics the front porch of the university and putting
them at the at the foremost areas that they need
to to expand the brand Of Texas state and get
(34:41):
them to AN r one university on the education. Side so, it's,
uh it's it's been a over the last couple of,
years a very calculated effort to to make sports on
the front of everybody's. MIND i, mean even when we
went in the Vic Buba's cup three out of the
last four, years which is the which is given to
the Top sunbelt athletics department each year, annually and The
(35:05):
bobkads have one to three of the last four, years
including the last two.
Speaker 5 (35:08):
Years so even.
Speaker 6 (35:09):
Though it's not totally winning conference championships in, football it's
doing in other. Areas it's dominating across the. Board so
it's time to move up and. On as far as
the administration here feels.
Speaker 2 (35:22):
That that was the brass tax of WHAT i was
thinking about a?
Speaker 3 (35:28):
Number what was the?
Speaker 2 (35:29):
Number so ten million kind is kind of a number
that could get everything.
Speaker 5 (35:33):
Moving that's what it. Seems and you, know it's all
rumored right.
Speaker 6 (35:37):
NOW i know there was an announcement last week that
THE pac twelve had figured out exactly how much the
media rights deal, is and now we don't know exactly
what that, is but most people have speculated around ten
million eleven. Million there was some cryptic tweets from Doctor Kelly,
damfis school president At Texas state a couple months ago
where it seemed like he was meeting WITH pac twelve officials.
(36:01):
Presidents i'm not exactly sure, who But he put out
a tweet, saying like talking about how when he when
he's eating, soup he doesn't want a half, bull he
wants a full. Ball seemingly he was alluding to that
they offered him a half. Share whether if That Media
rightes deal was ten, million they'd say you can get
five million for the next few years and then get
a full, Share and it didn't seem like that was
(36:21):
something That Texas state.
Speaker 5 (36:23):
Wanted so it seems.
Speaker 6 (36:25):
If they are going to go, forward it's likely going
to be for a full deal or some sort of
similar restructured.
Speaker 2 (36:30):
Deal they're gonna need that to you, know put that
subsidized in what the players are going to. Require and
you don't see twenty two million just floating Around Texas State, University.
Speaker 3 (36:47):
No not at.
Speaker 6 (36:47):
All that's why it would be a huge windfall around.
Speaker 5 (36:51):
Here it would change the way things.
Speaker 6 (36:53):
ARE i, mean LIKE i was, saying it's just under
two million a year from the Sun. Belt The, bobcats
they've been making a lot of, hey despite, that they've
been doing things.
Speaker 5 (37:03):
On their, own making, money raising money any way that they.
Speaker 6 (37:06):
Can and if they can get just this this media
right still where it's just a big check every single.
Speaker 5 (37:11):
Year it really just opens up everything you can.
Speaker 3 (37:14):
Do.
Speaker 5 (37:14):
Now, granted if they go to The pac, twelve that's
a lot of.
Speaker 6 (37:17):
TRAVEL i mean there's not there's Not there's not a
team within two states right. NOW i MEAN i think
the closest one would be Like Colorado. State it would
be pretty. CRAZY i don't know HOW i would. TRAVEL i,
Mean i'm Not i'm not getting any of that media
right we're talking.
Speaker 1 (37:34):
Sponsors we're talking To keV tardello of the host of
The Win now Or Get bent. Podcast you can follow
them on social media at keV underscore C and you,
know a lot of this is happening with the changes
that are happening At Texas. State you're building On they're
building on to the football, stadium getting those, suites getting
(37:57):
everything kind of built. UP Dj kenny has done an
unbelievable job going back to Back bowl. Games the energy
Around Texas state is for them to act, now isn't?
Speaker 6 (38:10):
It Absolutely, yeah it is it. Is it's, been, uh
it feels ever SINCE. Gj kenny got. Here it's been
everyone's been on a on a on the fast track
of like we gotta get things, rolling we got to
get this ball going because really with the way and
it couldn't have it couldn't have hit at a better.
Time it really was needed after ten plus years of
(38:32):
staying stagnant and not doing, much or specifically in, football
staying very mediocre in. Football it was very much. Needed
and with how much everything is changing around college, football
LIKE i was talking about The Power conference potentially breaking
off and doing their own, thing this is needed more
now than.
Speaker 5 (38:49):
Ever you gotta you have.
Speaker 6 (38:50):
To do this if you want to put yourself in
position to be at the table to not be left
out if something does happen where these teams break, off
then you have to you have to put yourself in
the best position you. CAN i mean obviously being a location,
wise The, bobcats they'd love for The packed or The
big twelve to come to look for them or some
of these other. Teams BUT i, mean this is this
(39:12):
is their. Option this is the one that they could.
Take it is on The West. Coast it is kind
of a funky, league but it's something that The bobcats
think is gonna elevate them higher than The Sun belt.
Speaker 3 (39:23):
Can right, now when do you.
Speaker 1 (39:24):
Think the answer will come about on the move or possible.
Speaker 6 (39:28):
Move you, know it really seems Like july first is
a huge night For Texas. STATE i don't know if
this necessarily matters for THE pac, twelve But Texas state
their exit fees for The Sun belt double On july,
first from five million to ten, million so They i'm
pretty sure they.
Speaker 3 (39:43):
Are they're very.
Speaker 6 (39:44):
Motivated to get it done within the next couple of.
Weeks BUT i also it also seems like THE pac
twelve is motivated to get it done as. Well now
they have tell Next july For july, first twenty twenty,
six to get that eighth team in their conference to
fully flesh it out and, boom they have a full,
conference so they have while but they obviously they want
to get that done sooner rather than. Later SO i
(40:04):
think both both sides are are. Motivated you could see
get done this. Week who's the.
Speaker 3 (40:10):
Time who's another team that can feel that spot that?
Speaker 6 (40:14):
Void you, know it WAS, unlv but after That june
first date that passed, up they were looking At tulane In.
Memphis but it seems like the price is too high
For tulane In memphis right. Now in THE, aac kind
of the same situation FOR. Utsa that's a school. There
it seems like they're somewhat flirting with as.
Speaker 5 (40:31):
WELL.
Speaker 6 (40:31):
Utsa so a lot of These American Athletic conferences, teams
that's that's who they're they're looking some.
Speaker 5 (40:37):
Of the bigger.
Speaker 1 (40:38):
Ones, YEAH i cannot wait Till july the. First we
should know. More And i'm sure you're gonna keep us
updated as. Well excuse, me Kef chardello make sure you
follow him at kef UNDERSCORE c for all the latest
with Your texas bobcats as, always, man thank you for
(40:59):
taking the.
Speaker 5 (40:59):
Time, hey appreciate.
Speaker 3 (41:02):
Y'all see you next.
Speaker 1 (41:02):
Time that's, right it'll be sooner than. LATER i promise you, that, brother.
Speaker 5 (41:06):
Get there all.
Speaker 3 (41:07):
Right when we.
Speaker 1 (41:08):
Come, back we're gonna Talk texas.
Speaker 3 (41:10):
Football oh.
Speaker 1 (41:12):
Man the percentages are out And texas only has one
competitor with their chance to being in the. Playoffs we'll
talk about it right here on the morning kickoff on.
Speaker 3 (41:22):
Sports RADIO am thirteen Hundred The.
Speaker 1 (41:24):
Zone great stuff From Kevin shardello as he broke down
The texas state. Move we'll also Have Mike craven Of
Dave Campbell's Texas football On thursday to talk About sark
being on the cover and of course talking About Texas
state as, well because by then we'll probably have more
(41:45):
Intail but right NOW i want to Talk texas. Football
texas football is the only team that was able to
make the college football playoffs in back to back. Seasons
even with the adjusted playoff, FORMAT a lot of teams
(42:05):
have the journeys to get into the. Playoffs we talked
about it yesterday about the win loss.
Speaker 3 (42:12):
Records and How.
Speaker 1 (42:14):
Texas they said That texas might be the over valued
team that is out, there but bet online doesn't think
that at. All The Texas longhorns playoff chances have been
greater than any other team out there except for, one
(42:36):
but it is by a slim. Margin Bet online believes
that The Texas longhorns have the second best odds to
be a playoff, team right behind the national champion and
their first, Opponent Ohio. State they Have Ohio state at
(42:57):
seventy six point five chance of making the college football.
Playoffs they Have texas at seventy five percent chance of
making the. Playoffs, Oregon, Georgia, BAMA i, Mean Penn state
are all in. Seventies alabama's at, Sixty Notre dames at Sixty,
(43:18):
clemson WHICH i looked At clemson's schedule yesterday and if
they don't make the, PLAYOFFS i don't know what they were.
Speaker 3 (43:25):
Doing and the rails have fallen off over.
Speaker 1 (43:29):
There because that Has Martin, state they have one of
the easier schedules that are out. There they also HAVE, Lsu,
Ole Miss Boise, State, miami And michigan from forty one
percent FOR lsu all the way down To michigan at
(43:49):
thirty one. Percent they Have, TEXAS a AND m at
twenty nine percent chance of making the, Playoffs Texas tech seventeen,
Percent oklahoma sixteen, percent IN usc rounding it.
Speaker 3 (44:04):
Out at fifteen point four. Percent figure that iron sharpens.
Speaker 2 (44:10):
Iron texas has a schedule that is not for the
fame of heart yep and six games In texas is
gonna be a well polished.
Speaker 3 (44:21):
Team like after, that you're you're in a lot of.
Speaker 2 (44:25):
Trouble get your, a get your bills, paid get your
insurance up because kill shots are being made.
Speaker 3 (44:35):
Well.
Speaker 1 (44:35):
Texas texas has the fourth rated tough schedule and the
reason why Texas is schedule is considered one of one
of the top four toughest is because of the road
games That texas is going to Have they open the
season out At Ohio state ELEVEN am game In. Columbus
(44:56):
then they GO i, mean they play at home three,
games but then they're on the road At, florida they
play in The Red River. Shootout AND i know it's
called The, rivalry BUT i don't want to sound Like Elmer.
Speaker 3 (45:08):
Fudd that'll be In.
Speaker 1 (45:09):
Dallas they go To, kentucky they go To Mississippi, state
home Against vanderbilt At, georgia and then finished the last
two games of the regular season Against arkansas And TEXAS
a AND. M so their, schedule to your, point is
pretty much the same as last, year except for last
(45:30):
year it was a lot of home. Games now you're
going to be on the road for the majority of these.
Games and let me just say, this when you sit
back and you think about This texas football team and
going back to the fact that they went back to
back seasons into the, playoffs they have to be ready to.
Speaker 3 (45:50):
Go and that's why this summer is going to be
so important for.
Speaker 2 (45:53):
Them and it's going to be the revenge tour for
THE sec all those teams That texas put it on
them last. Year they're gonna have to contend with them. Again,
yeah and every year for that. Matter but this will
be they'll they'll do it at, home and you know
when you're at, home you're gonna be.
Speaker 1 (46:12):
Ready We texas Beat Mississippi state at home thirty five,
thirteen or they beat the snot out Of. Oklahoma georgia
Beat texas here AT, dkr so that'll be another. Game
texas barely won At. Nashville uh so they'll get them
back at. Home but they Beat florida forty nine to,
seventeen so they go. There They arkansas comes Here kentucky
(46:35):
they beat thirty one to fourteen In TEXAS a AND.
M they beat seventeen to seven At TEXAS a AND.
M so it'll be it'll be interesting to see how
this team formulates this. Season But, mark you thought yesterday
when we were talking That texas has a chance to
(46:55):
go undefeated and the.
Speaker 3 (46:57):
GOOEE i think they. CAN i think that.
Speaker 2 (47:01):
It's going to come down to staying healthy and being
able to run the ball the way that they intended
on running the ball last.
Speaker 5 (47:09):
Year.
Speaker 2 (47:10):
Yep but they had so many injuries in the running
back room that they had to go to play AND,
b which playing b ended up being pretty good. Guys,
Yeah Trey, wise that came out of.
Speaker 3 (47:20):
That we learned a.
Speaker 2 (47:21):
Lot we learned a lot about this team under. Adversity
what is this team going to be like without? It,
well this team is going to the ceiling is. HIGHER
i mean think about.
Speaker 1 (47:31):
It, though you've you've made a lot of changes and
we talked about. It you went thirteen to three last,
year very experienced. Team you had a three year starter
at the quarterback. Position you Have you Had JOHN.
Speaker 3 (47:47):
A barn in the secondary leading this.
Speaker 1 (47:49):
Squad you Had Alfred collins And Vernon broughton on the defensive.
Line you had a lot of leadership that is now
being passed.
Speaker 3 (47:59):
On but that is what Coach shark was working.
Speaker 1 (48:03):
On that was the development that they have been talking about.
About how do you get these guys to buy into
the program number, one but number two buy in and
thrive in the program taking that step.
Speaker 2 (48:19):
Up, Well i'm gonna hit you with. This so did everybody.
Else everybody else lost. Stuff they lost position players that
had played multiple. Years Texas as their quarterback has been
in the system for two years.
Speaker 3 (48:33):
Now he just didn't.
Speaker 2 (48:35):
Start so it's not like you're rebuilding that, quarterback your offensive,
line you had plug and play. Guys you had a
guy that went high in the, draft in the top
ten in the, draft and the guy that came off
the bench was just as good as. Him SO i
feel that that's going to be more of the same
as far as you, know the people that Coach sark
(48:58):
put into, place it's just the formulation of the ball
that they're gonna.
Speaker 3 (49:03):
Play they brought in.
Speaker 2 (49:06):
A portal wide receiver that they say is one of
the best blockers in College, yeah they bring it tight
end in what is He he's a big, body possession,
receiver not a, burner and one of the best blockers
in college. Football that means you're going to try to
run the. Ball, Yeah So i'm not saying that you
(49:31):
bring in a guy that's a speedster with intent on
just you, know running the ball and having that guy.
Blocked but they have guys now that actually are tailor
made for that. Role AND i hate that Not Not
black had to go because.
Speaker 3 (49:48):
He did a good, job but they.
Speaker 1 (49:50):
Upgraded, yeah, well we're gonna see what ends up. Happening
because of the fact that when you go back and
forth and you start to understand what The this looks
Like texas is priming themselves for different situations to where
you start to understand how good they can be because
(50:11):
you talked about, it and you continue to talk about the, relow, reload.
Reload when you start to reload and you continue to
have those types of players that you're providing depth, to
it changes the whole perspective of the football. Team and
the one thing THAT i want to see for sure
is the leadership mode of Where arch, is how he's
(50:33):
going to The OBVIOUSLY i know that the players are
going to buy into what he's. Doing he's been, here
like you, said but being able to have that mindset of,
hey let's, go, yeah let's, GOD i could have did
my take today on what the renting back room is
going to bring because you have backs to. Back he's
(50:53):
an unbelievable, talent going to be AN nfl. Quarterback, clark
he's back Baby.
Speaker 2 (50:59):
Ryano But Trey wisener showed that he is the dominant
force in the. Bankfield it's just hard for me to
look at that room and not feel Like texas is
gonna dominate over the long.
Speaker 3 (51:12):
Haul and he's gotten bigger.
Speaker 1 (51:13):
Too by the Way Trey wisner's put on more way
because he understands what the job that is at, hand
and of course you're getting more depth as. Well coming
up that you heard, Him World's Strongest take brought to
you by The World's Strongest man right here on the
morning kickoff On Sports RADIO am thirteen.
Speaker 3 (51:33):
Hundred that's all that beat is hitting like even.
Speaker 1 (51:37):
Better, TODAY Wwe hall Of famer and the World's Strongest,
Man Deve Mark henry brings you his World's strongest.
Speaker 3 (51:45):
Take take it, away big, fellow, hright what's? Up you
know what time it? Is what time?
Speaker 2 (51:52):
Is it is time for The World's Strongest take by
The World's Strongest, Man. Marcus back, then they didn't know.
Me Now i'm, hot they're all on. Me. Guys last
night we got something THAT i was not. Expecting i'm
(52:13):
gonna be. HONEST i was thinking that that was the
game that The Indiana pacers were gonna step. Up they
were gonna press the pedal to the, medal and they
were gonna get that. Game AND i was incredibly. Wrong
(52:34):
and there was a reason THAT i was, wrong and
that reason Is Jalen williams forty points twenty four years.
Old jalen is six y five two hundred and ten
(52:56):
two hundred and fifteen, pounds plays power, forward plays small,
forward and plays two.
Speaker 3 (53:04):
Guard he is a matchup.
Speaker 2 (53:08):
NIGHTMARE i, mean the guy is only one inch taller
than me and is just destroying the people that try
to defend. Him and he was in his bag last.
Night he hit at least four bank shots like layups
(53:31):
off the high off the glass With english shown. IT i,
mean he was A english major last. Night and this
Is jalen's first year making An All star, team and
they also was third in The ALL.
Speaker 3 (53:50):
Nba balloting at his.
Speaker 2 (53:53):
Position he And Shae Gildris alexander are going to be
together for a minimum of three years before their contracts come.
UP i can see these two guys being the lynch
(54:13):
pins if you, will for What Oklahoma city. Is you
know that their number three, Guy Cheed, hunkrim is not going.
Anywhere they're gonna always try to keep. Him he's a
young guy. Too this is a young group of young
nucleus of. Players and we talked about his offensive, prowess
(54:38):
but he also had for Assist he distributed his scoring as,
well and three steals in a block shot that is
the kind of balance in a player that makes you
a great, team not just a good. Team Arge my
take is This Oklahoma City thunder closes this out this next,
(55:08):
game and then we start thinking about next. YEAR i
think that they will run it back. Again the team is,
deep they're, developing they're getting, better and they're not losing.
Speaker 3 (55:22):
Anybody what's say.
Speaker 5 (55:25):
You.
Speaker 1 (55:26):
They're talented basketball. Team they're a young basketball. Team but
the one thing that we have to put into perspective
is that when you're young and you've had success a
lot of times during the, offseason you'd like to enjoy.
It so although they're going to be, GOOD i don't
(55:49):
think they can repeat as. CHAMPION i do believe that
they're going to be in the running for. IT i
do believe that they could come back and They're the
year that they've had is undeniably one of the best.
Ever and WHAT i mean by the Defensive, defensively they're
(56:10):
probably one of the best teams IN nba history when
it comes to Defensive we talked about it before the.
Show the depth that they bring to the matchup every
single time is top.
Speaker 3 (56:24):
Notch there's nothing else like.
Speaker 1 (56:26):
It but you also have to understand too that there
will be some guys that end up, leaving there will
be some guys that will probably be poached from. Them
and the drive is This Jalen. Williams he's becoming a,
superstar household. Name we're getting a chance to see. Him
(56:46):
that's why when people start to look at these championships
and they're, like, oh it's gonna be.
Speaker 3 (56:53):
Boring, no it's.
Speaker 1 (56:54):
Not it has not been, boring not one. Time every
game has had their. Runs now we can talk ABOUT
tj McConnell and what he looks like as a guy
that has truly underachieved and overachieved if that's, possible because
he was a guy that had to go to THE
G league and come. In the coach that they have
(57:17):
right now was A G league coach and he Coached
Alex caruso When caruso was in THE G. League so
we're seeing the development of these. Guys but the one
thing THAT i continue to try to understand is how
sustainable is this going to?
Speaker 2 (57:34):
Be, well, technically when you talk about, sustainability they have
everybody locked up to twenty, eight, Right so they're going
to have this team again the entire season the next,
year and then you'll start the conversations about coaching and
those players on the bench going to other, places, right
because prest is not going to allow those guys to
(57:58):
leave without him getting something in, return. Right and what
he does with those draft picks from people, leaving he's
gonna turn those into other guys.
Speaker 3 (58:11):
That are just like the ones that are.
Speaker 1 (58:13):
Leaving the last TEAM i believe to win back to
back championships was.
Speaker 5 (58:21):
The.
Speaker 3 (58:22):
Warriors The warriors.
Speaker 1 (58:24):
When they won twenty seventeen and twenty, EIGHTEEN i believe
they were the last team to go back to. Back
we thought that The nuggets were gonna be able to do.
It they didn't do. It, Obviously boston with a great
record this past, year they didn't do. It that's WHY
i think it's gonna be hard.
Speaker 3 (58:41):
To go back to.
Speaker 1 (58:41):
Back BUT i do believe that they will be in
the mix for the. Championship but you, know as well
AS i, Do partying too hard during the offseason just
kind of keeps you at that.
Speaker 2 (58:54):
Point Shake givesick's axender don't strike me as that.
Speaker 3 (58:58):
GUY i think with, him people don't.
Speaker 1 (59:00):
Strike you as that until you win a championship and
everybody's partying with. Us we See brady almost dropped the
Trophy Emma Boston.
Speaker 3 (59:10):
Harbor and he works, hard you know What i'm.
Speaker 1 (59:13):
Saying you, know, Yes so you start to look at
these moments and you're, Like, okay it can, happen but
you do want to understand that they have a lot
of opportunities there to win those. Championships and again we
got a chance to see how Good Shay Gilchris, Is
(59:35):
jay will is getting the burn that he, Loves Chad Hongren,
dort all the guys that you, like they've been playing
well enough that they're going to get some. Burn another
great tech by the world's strongest. Man when we come,
back we'll close out the show and send you To Damn.
Patrick we'll also Talk texas news in the. Portal baseball
(59:55):
is making, news and we have some elimination games in
the college world right here on The Morning kickoff On
Sports RADIO am.
Speaker 3 (01:00:03):
Thirteen Hundred The. Zone if you.
Speaker 1 (01:00:05):
Miss any part of the, show get over to our
podcast page wherever you get your, podcasts type in The Morning,
kickoff or as we've talked about, before make sure that
you have us as your.
Speaker 3 (01:00:17):
Presets as, always.
Speaker 1 (01:00:21):
We got into a lot of conversations Today we talked
About texas.
Speaker 3 (01:00:26):
Baseball we Talked College World.
Speaker 1 (01:00:28):
Series we also got into the point of The Texas
longhorn team football team and their, recruitments and they've been
going after some, guys So texas continues to make. Moves
one of the THINGS i didn't get a chance to
talk about IS i wanted to make sure that we
mentioned Show Hey O. Tani Show Hey O tany made
(01:00:49):
his return on the mound. Yesterday he threw thirteen pitches
ninety eight miles per. Hour he topped out at one
hundred miles an. Hour he's the first player to start
a game as a pitcher in bat leadoff since nineteen fifty, three.
Speaker 3 (01:01:07):
And he was the third player to do it.
Speaker 1 (01:01:09):
Overall to that, PITCHER i mean to start on the
mound in bat. Leadoff it was the first time he
pitched in twenty two, months and he only gave up
one run two. Hits but Show Hail tany continues to
marvel a lot of people at the things that he's
able to. Do we also wanted to talk a little
(01:01:31):
bit about the transfer portal For texas. Baseball texas got
a new pitcher in the transfer portal as they got
one From TEXAS i Mean Texas State Mississippi, state and the.
Speaker 3 (01:01:46):
Moves are being made all.
Speaker 1 (01:01:47):
Around Coach schlopsnegel is doing everything he can possibly do
to make sure that this team continues to get. Better
Luke dotson is his, name left handed, pitcher hard throwing
pitcher that is a. Sophomore he'll be transferrent on the forty.
Acres they've also made some moves for some position players as,
(01:02:09):
well so they're not. Stopping let's just say that they're
not stopping when it comes to making moves on the baseball.
Diamond no basketball, tonight But mark did his take on
the up and coming Ok See, thunder WHICH i believe
will win the.
Speaker 3 (01:02:28):
Championship Tyrese halliburton.
Speaker 1 (01:02:31):
Is still on that Missing Milk, carton but we saw
him in playing sight and he still wasn't able to do.
Anything the rumors ABOUT kd are still out. THERE a
lot of people are saying THAT kd The suns may
not trade him to his desired. PLACES i think a
lot of that has to do with what's going to be.
(01:02:53):
Available the draft is next, week so we will know
more as we get closer and closer to the, draft
and we are not too far away FROM sec media
days From, atlanta and that means that we're getting closer
and closer to football season as. Well So, mark as
you look at everything that's going on in, sports just
(01:03:14):
like my man kef said About Texas state possibly joining
THE pac, twelve there's a lot going on in. Sports
and this is normally a quiet time when.
Speaker 2 (01:03:26):
You sit back and you think about, it it's normally
a quiet, time but hard everybody is dying to prepare
for next season in all, sports not just, baseball not just,
football not even our. Basketball everybody's, recruiting trying to get
the lineups that they. Want and what does it? Take,
(01:03:47):
yep money and hard ass. Work and these coaches have
been putting the hard work. In now it's about can
we acquire enough financial.
Speaker 3 (01:04:01):
To get our teams the way that we want? Them?
Speaker 2 (01:04:05):
RIGHT i, mean not many teams have the ability to
throw one, hundred like one point five million dollars at
a softball.
Speaker 3 (01:04:13):
Player they don't have.
Speaker 2 (01:04:15):
THAT i, mean let's be, honest there's not many, teams
not even the top fifty teams are always willing to do.
That so that being, said what do you Expect Texas
state to?
Speaker 1 (01:04:31):
DO i expect them to make some moves and try
to do everything they possibly can to be able to.
COMPETE i, mean they're not in a position as of
yet to be able to do. That but if they
can find the financial means to get into THE.
Speaker 3 (01:04:48):
Pac, twelve it changes the whole.
Speaker 1 (01:04:50):
Narrative they've got to make sure that they get THEIR
tv rights and everything else that goes on with. That
but they're positioning themselves to beat they're not gonna Be
i'm not gonna put them as a major player in
any of it. Yet there's a process to all of,
this but they're they're making all the upgrades that they
(01:05:10):
need to make at the football, stadium which is long.
Speaker 3 (01:05:13):
Overdue they're doing things on the.
Speaker 1 (01:05:16):
Campus enrollment has gone through the roof because Of, again
if your football team is, successful people are gonna want
to go to the school and they're not gonna be
recognized as just the party.
Speaker 3 (01:05:27):
School they're doing things to move in the right.
Speaker 1 (01:05:32):
Direction but being in THE pac, twelve that's a lot
of travel and the cost is not gonna be the
same because you gotta pay for all those, flights you
gotta pay for, lodging you GOTTA i, mean baseball Is
think about what we talked about. This think about What
stanford is having to do from front flying From Palo
(01:05:54):
alto to The east. Coast that's. Ridiculous and we're just talking,
football which is once a. Week think about all the
intermediate sports that everybody's having to. Play think About oregon
going to The pac. Ten, Now oregon is a bad
example because they got all the money that could ever
want From Phield. Night but that's a lot of wear
(01:06:15):
and tear on your student, athletes the ones that they keep, Saying,
oh they're here for.
Speaker 3 (01:06:20):
SCHOOL i think we're past that. Now oh we will.
PASSED i think we're past that.
Speaker 1 (01:06:25):
Now there's so much that is going on within athletics
that there has to be something put in place that
even with the, realignment we thought it was, cool you,
know obviously Because texas going to THE, sec but they're
not traveling that. Far THE sec is where it's always.
Been now you're creating all these other major. Conferences that
(01:06:49):
is having to drive with one team to. Another The
southland is not The. Southland the Sun belt is not
the Sun belt. Anymore there's a lot of changes that are,
happening and there's a lot of moving pieces. Now i'm
glad that the kids get a chance to make some.
Money i'm glad that all these things are, happening but
there is a time where we have to put some
(01:07:11):
guardrails on this thing because it is definitely out of.
Speaker 2 (01:07:14):
Control i've been saying that since the, beginning, like instead of,
standards just say this is what the limit, is and
we're gonna leave it.
Speaker 3 (01:07:21):
At, that and then it'll fix. Everything free.
Speaker 1 (01:07:23):
MARKET i guess, right that's what it, is free. Market
so see what's happening out there in the free. Market
another great. SHOW i want to Thank Kevin chardello for
joining us talking all Things Texas. STEAK i want to
thank Our God Joe cook Of Inside.
Speaker 3 (01:07:38):
Texas tomorrow we'll Have.
Speaker 1 (01:07:40):
Danny davis of The Austin American, statesman and so much
more For, marcus For Mark.
Speaker 3 (01:07:47):
Henry i'm hardball hard.
Speaker 1 (01:07:48):
And just remember, this don't believe everything you, see because
even salt looks like.
Speaker 3 (01:07:53):
Sugar, peace
