days will roll on. Yesterday, you had some special moments
with Kentucky, you had Tennessee great venables over at Oklahoma,
and of course Eli Drinkwitz with Missouri. The big news

for Eli Drinkwitz and Missouri running back Ahmad Hardy, who
got shot during the offseason, is fully ready to go.
He will be able to play. They don't know if
he's going to be able to play the beginning of
the season, but he's working through his rehab. He's one
of the top running backs in the SEC, and he
was somebody that the NFL was looking at. John the
(02:41):
Teer met with the media and kind of just gave
everybody the thought that he is in a better place
right now. Venables believes that his team is hungry. We'll
hear from him another time, but it is a lot
going on and SEC media days continues to roam. Today
you'll get a chance to hear from Shane Beamer. Shane Beemer,

the head coach of South Carolina. I think he has
as best as draws on because as soon as they
light a match, it's gonna burn up because his seat
is that hot. Good Vanderbilts, Clark Lee talking about what's
gonna happen post Pavia, what's next for them. Auburn with
their new coach Alex Golish, he's in. And now Kirby Smart,

the dean of the SEC, the one who's been the
longest tenured, especially now that.

What was the guy.

Oh Stoops Stoops from Kentucky is now gone. Kirby Smart
is the longest tenured head coach in the SEC. But
yesterday will Stein, former Lake Travis offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach,
is now the head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats. And

obviously replacing Stoops was huge Mark. I mean, Stoops has
been there forever. He's he is the Stoops I believe,
if I'm not mistaken. He's working on the staff here
at the University of Texas as an analyst. But you
start to understand that there needed to be a change,
and will Stein was asked during this press conference yesterday, Hey,
(04:19):
what's gonna be the biggest difference for Kentucky and to
turn this thing around?
Speaker 3 (04:24):
What do you think the biggest difference is?
Speaker 4 (04:26):
I think because of me, To be honest, I think
it's a mean I think I know what it takes.
I've seen at the highest levels. I know what it
takes to recruit at this level. And you just got
to believe, man, you just got to put the ball
down a play. There's not really else to be said.
Is it going to happen overnight?
Speaker 3 (04:45):
I don't know.

Yep, you don't know. And part of this is part
of this special assistant to the head coach.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
Well that guy right.

There, loves him from him, and you don't make a
comment like me if you don't have something in mind.
He's got a plan and you know, confidence plays a
role in it. But also knowing that you actually have
some weapons offensively or defensively or schematically gives you that

Yeah.

Well, I mean he's had success every place that he's been.
He's been the offensive coordinator, he's had great teams around him.

He went out and got.

A good quarterback from the transfer portal that was part
of Notre Dame last year, and now he believes that
coming into this, he said he doesn't believe it's gonna
happen overnight.

But he doesn't.

You say he didn't know. Yeah, true, but I believe
it's not gonna happen overnight. But he's gonna have to
work at it because the SEC is something that's built different.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
For sure.

This is one of those conferences that you have to
show up every single night. It is huge for them
to make sure that they make the right jump. But
you also get a chance. They went out in the
transfer portal and they got our guy.
Speaker 3 (06:06):

Baxter is one of the running backs for that university.
So let's see what he's going to be able to do.
They did some things to kind of uplift what they
expect to be a special season.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
So we'll see what ends up happening.

But to me being able to come into that first
time being in the face of the sec media and
given that response, I think a lot of people were like, Okay, well,
all right, why not. You got the job for a reason.
Let's see what happens next.

Well, i'll tell you what, I don't doubt that he's
going to have success.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
What level of success is the question.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
With the transferred portal system, you can go from the
out house to the penthouse pretty quick, and it's gonna
down to are you healthy. It's going to come down
to did you find a diamond in the rough too,
because you can't just assume that just because you brought

somebody in out of the portal and they were good
somewhere else, that they're not going to have some kind
of mental block, or they're going to be injured, or
they just don't.

Get the system.

So you got to always have backup contingency plans.

For your contingency plan.

Well, we'll see what ends up happening, but it's an
exciting time for the Kentucky Wildcats.

You also had Oklahoma where they believe that they got
a chance to continue the success after what they had
last year. And just Geometer, if he can go out
there and play better, he's gonna give this team a great,
great opportunity. Speaking of a great opportunity, there's a story
that happened over the weekend by coach Steve Sarkisi and

he was talking to the Texas High School Coaches Convention
and he had brought up the name Jermaine Bishop Junior.
This is a guy that we've talked about that a
lot of people have had great stuff to say about.
And of course Dez Bryant blessed him enough too and
said that this is a guy that is going to
(08:21):
be hard to keep him off the football field. Well,
it's gonna be hard, but they might find some different
ways to get him on the field.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
And I'll let coach start explain.
Speaker 5 (08:31):
Yeah, I'm we're really excited about Jermaine. This guy loves
football like everything he does is he works at his
craft and he's excited about it. He brings great energy,
he loves the game, He loves competing, he loves practice,
he loves working at it. He's got natural leadership ability.
(08:52):
Kind of in that freshman class already you can feel
his leadership.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
But he's very talented.
Speaker 5 (08:57):
And in spring we played him exclusive lead at wide
receiver and he had a very good you know spring force.
And you know, one thing that we talked about in
recruiting with him was his ability to play dB as well.
So for this summer, he's been working at dB. He's
been learning our scheme, he's been learning the fundamentals that techniques,
and then when we go back to fall camp, he'll
(09:18):
go back to wide receiver again with the notion of knowing, hey,
if emergency strikes, here's a guy who already knows our
scheme and he can go over there and play on defense.
If he can continue to develop, he could be an
emergency guy on the defensive side.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
Of the ball.
Speaker 5 (09:34):
But we'll focus with him on offense when we get back.
But people don't know this. When we were at Alabama,
DeVante Smith was our emergency corner and he would take
the first you know, scout period. He would go with
the defense and coach Saban and play corner and then
he'd come over and play wide receiver in the second
scout period. So you know, think about that the year
(09:54):
that guy wins the Heisman Trophy, he was practicing on
defense part of practice, you know, just just in case, because.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
He was an emergency player.
Speaker 5 (10:01):
So it's not totally out of abnormal. I've been fortunate
to have guys who have done it before with me.
John Ross at Washington was a wide out for me
his freshman year, but also you know, learned nickel and
played some dB four US on third down. Dori Jackson
when I was at USC, you know, he was a
starter at dB and returner and I would play him about,
(10:23):
you know, five to ten snaps a game on offense.
And so this isn't totally out of the norm for us.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
I've seen it.
Speaker 5 (10:29):
But managing their time and managing their legs and really
monitoring their body I think is as important as anything
as we work our way through the season.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
Great analogy are great analyzing.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
What coach said was making sure that you monitor what those.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
Reps look like because you can burn somebody up and
you don't want to do that. I mean, we see
it with Travis Hunter and Dion and guys like that like,
this would be great if you can have one of those.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
Yeah, he's definitely somebody that everybody is excited about. They
they keep talking about him during the spring and what
he was able to do, and we'll see what if
he's going to get that opportunity in the fall. When

Greg Sankey spoke at the SEC Media Days told about
the possibilities of the SEC breaking away from the NCAA
and also gave numbers on the fans support per game
for SEC.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
So much to get into and also don't forget.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
At eight o'clock, we'll talk to dallascowboys dot COM's Tommy
Yarish and get his thoughts as Cowboys get ready for
training camp. In one hour from now, we'll talk to
the voice of the Houston Texans, Mark Vandermir, because we're

to Mark Vandermir as the Texans go to camp starting

tomorrow or actually today, excuse me. The rookies report today
and the Vets report next week. Mark, as we mentioned,
he started looking at the SEC and the thought process
of who is going to win it, how they're going
to get there, But we also talk about individual players
(13:14):
and Cole Thompson, who works out of Houston and one
of our part of iHeart and one of the guys
that is close to the programs and the SEC. He
had a conversation about one Colin Simmons and how he
will be a difference maker.
Speaker 6 (13:33):
There's one player who I would take if you were
telling me I get to draft them and they get
to be a difference maker for the next decade at.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
The NFL level.
Speaker 6 (13:39):
To me, it's Colin Simmons coming out of Texas. I
think Colin Simmons is just that difference maker coming off
the edge. He was phenomenal as a freshman last season,
became an elite run defender and a very good upside
and pass runsher. So now it's year three working in
Will Much Chance defense, but he is told to do
two things at a high level. Get to the quarterback,
(14:01):
take away the run game. If Texas is going to
be as good as I think they can, they're gonna
have to be able to trust their front Steven to
make a lot of plays because the back end is
going to be going through a transitional period with a
new play caller.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
And that's why they brought in Will Much Chance to
begin with.
Speaker 6 (14:16):
So Simmons his ability to win one on one battles.
His first step is so explosive. He wins off the
line of scrimmage. He's able to bully offensive lineman into oblivion.
And even though I do think that you can talk
about a guy like Dylan Stewart, the production's already there
for a not like Colin Simmons, And if you're telling
me that I get another year of him, a little
(14:37):
bit bigger, a little bit faster, a little bit more agile.
We can talk about what arch Manning is supposed to be,
but this is gonna be one of those times where
as dmit you brought up quarterbacks, gonna get the love.
But the reality is that it's probably somebody else that's
actually gonna be the major attributor of why your team
is successful.
Speaker 1 (14:54):
Let me ask you this, because if you look at
Colin Simmons and what he's been able to do, everybody
was talking about his year last year.
Speaker 3 (15:02):
Oh, he didn't do as well. He didn't.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
He didn't get off to a great start. Colin Simmons
led the sec in sacks last year. He ended up
slowing himself down and being under control and it benefited him.
He had forty three total tackles, twenty three of those
were solo tackles last year, and he forced three fumbles.
(15:24):
So for everybody that was looking at him and saying, wow,
he didn't have a great year, he didn't start off great.
I mean the in the purpose of playing is getting
better every single game and every single week, and If.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
That is the case, that's exactly what happened. That's exactly
what he did.
Speaker 2 (15:45):
He got better, it ramped up and kept ramping and
got to the end of the season.
Speaker 7 (15:49):
He was.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
Doing their unblockable at times, and we saw it in
the OU game, like they could not block him and
he was a difference maker. He's gonna be better at
that this year for the simple reason hard of the
schematics of the of it all. You cannot double team
(16:12):
him every play. Now they're gonna send bals up the middle.
The running back is gonna have to chip him, be waiting,
be waiting, get in his face. You're gonna have to
You gont have to put the mouth piece in a
lot of these running backs don't wear a mouthpiece.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
Well that's the overweight.
Speaker 2 (16:31):
Now you're gonna have a linebacker two hundred and forty
pounds screaming down your neck right down the middle of
the defense.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
And who's gonna who's gonna help.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
You're gonna move the tight end over there to help
Colin block Colin? What about the other side? Lance is
gonna get off? So it's like this defense is multiple now.
So uh, and we haven't even talked about what the
defensive tackles are gonna be able to bring to this defense,
Like it could be a it could be a roof
(17:02):
leaking water, like you just don't know where it's coming from.
And I feel like that's going to be the advantage
that Colin Simmons is going to have.
Speaker 1 (17:13):
Colin Simmons, in his two seasons on the forty acres,
already has twenty one sacks. He tied for a freshman
record or tied for third as a freshman with nine sacks,
followed up with twelve sacks to lead the SEC in
that category. But he does more than that. Your game
(17:33):
plan is to stop him. When you're looking at defenses
and you're walking to the line of scrimmage, everybody tries
to find the micropacker, but they also are going to
be trying to find out where Colin Simmons is. And
the art of the disguise is going to help the
University of Texas.
Speaker 2 (17:53):
So, oh, you remember being a kid playing hide and
seek and everybody'll be like, there you go, right there,
he's behind the tree.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
That's what you're gonna get every play.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
Everybody's gonna be doing the Sophie Cunnyhill I'm trying to
point at people.
Speaker 3 (18:09):
There're gonna be pointing at him.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
There's the guy sight in move over on his side
running back before you leak out, you need to chip him.
Like your whole defensive offensive strategy is gonna be to
contain the guy that's the most dangerous. We're is gonna
leave us openings for other people to do their job.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
The one thing that I look at when I when
I watch calling Colin Simmons is his ability to play
with controlled rage, him coming off of that edge and
being that guy that can be so disruptive without without
overrunning play, yeah, without being too anxious. And that's what
(18:52):
he was in the very beginning of the season last
year when he came in, was talking about breaking the
record for the most sacks and all these different things. Well,
then the game slowed down to him again and he
got back to being the Colin Simmons that a lot
of people thought they were gonna see at the very
beginning of the year. But as I said before, and
I'll continue to say it, sign of a well coached
(19:14):
team is a week to week improvement.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
The sign of a.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
Good player is ready to be able to make the
adjustments and continue to get better as well. So whenever
you get to that point, that's what you want to see.
And the other person that will be taking the trip
to SEC media days is QB one.
Speaker 3 (19:38):
That will be arch Manning.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
Arch Manning's getting a lot of love and there's finally
somebody that understood the assignment when arch finished out the season.
Speaker 8 (19:49):
I think another way to tell the non ball OBErs
this summer is to rank arch Manning number one or
number two in quarterback lists and watch him come out
of the woodwork and say you're just doing it because
of his name.
Speaker 3 (20:00):
He sucked, he was terrible, he was awful. I can't
believe this. Didn't you learn your lesson last year?
Speaker 8 (20:04):
Listen if you say that, you either didn't watch, didn't
pay attention, or you're just stupid, because nobody, nobody told
the truth about archs man any more than me. I
was excited about him coming into the year. Then he
was straight for about six weeks. He was bad for
six weeks.
Speaker 3 (20:20):
He was terrible.
Speaker 8 (20:21):
But if you weren't watching and you didn't notice by
October that guy was putting things together. That game where
he basically beat Oklahoma, I mean like he was dominated
against Oklahoma. He put together a couple of other good games,
and then by November he was just damn good. He's
got the wheels, he's got the mind, he's got the arm,
He's got every tool that you want. He's got a
Texas team that will bounce back. He had Wingo a
(20:42):
great receiver. I think he's a very good receiver. Now
he's got cam Coleman coming in from Auburn. He's got
two running backs coming in Hollywood, Smothers and Relie Brown
that are going to take the load off of him.
He's got the best skill position players in the country.
Perhaps he is going to be very, very good now.
The arch Manning question mark is was the first month
of the season. I tell that he's always going to

struggle earlier that he's got some struggle in him. Or
is it going to be arch Manning exclamation point what
he was at the end of the year, goes forward,
he develops, and he becomes the best player in the country,
because that is absolutely on the table. And if he
does that, Texas could win the national title. If he doesn't,
then he will miss the playoff.

I beg to differ with him because I believe on
this station on the morning kickoff.

We said all of that.

We talked about how good this young man got and
showed that the work was being done.

Mark Yesterday, Greg Sankin talk about the attendance records for
the SEC, and I want to get your thoughts.
Speaker 9 (22:50):
Southeastern Conference football remains the second most watched sports property
in the United States, trailing only the National Football League,
and we account for just over forty percent of the
life viewership hours consumed among the four major conferences. Our
football programs drawn average of eighty thousand fans per game.
(23:13):
That's our average number, and this was the stat of
my summer. That's the highest average attendance for any sport
league in the world.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
You buy or sell that, I'm buying.
Speaker 2 (23:27):
I'm buying when you come with the statistics and you
have that outlined.
Speaker 3 (23:33):
He was prepared to give you that, and we see it.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
I mean, just well, we had six games here and
there's two hundred thousand people walking around when we're here,
and you can only get one hundred thousand in the stadium.
Speaker 1 (23:53):
They pushed the limits. There's fire codes that are probably
being pushed, right.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
Okay, maybe maybe it's one hundred and five, yeah, but
nonetheless that number is six games, So you know, yeah,
I'm buying.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
Yep, I'm definitely buying too. And then you can see
the product continues to get better. There's a lot of
bidding wars for the SEC conference and what.
Speaker 3 (24:17):
Is going on with it.
Speaker 1 (24:18):
So I'm by by buying on that all right, another
by or sell the possibility of the SEC breaking away
from the NCAA, And here's their dentitch talking about it.
Speaker 10 (24:32):
Oh, it's very real. And this is something that has
been going on for months, because SEC presidents and chancellors
have been talking about this since about February when they
met in Nashville to talk about options of self governance
if they cannot get federal legislation. I mean, that's where
the conversations are. And you can look at the Big
(24:54):
twelve and the Texas Tech incident with Brendan Sooresby and
as an example of what this means means because when
you're talking about breaking away from the NC double A,
you're talking about making and enforcing your own rules. In
that case, the NC double A wasn't able to enforce
its own rules on gambling. So the SEC and Greg
thank you, will tell you we already do make some
(25:16):
of our rules and enforce them. But if they can't
get help from the federal government, get some antitrust protection
so that every time they try to make a rule
the nc double A, they don't get turned around and
somebody sues them for it. That's what these conversations are about.

Ding ding ding.

Do you buy or sell that common I'm buying that too, yep.
Speaker 2 (25:37):
I mean I'm doubling it down on that one, because
there this SOLI would be situation intensified.
Speaker 3 (25:45):
Whether or not.

They're tired of the fact that the NCAA will not help.
They're they're they're just they're they're a waste of time.
Why not enforce your own rules and have your your
own plan. Then to be a part of something where
everything is up in the air, we don't know. We
gotta wait on state legislature, we gotta wait on a
(26:11):
federal exemption, so we can make a decision. Get out
of here, make your decision, set your rules, and if
they do it and you become more like a notre dame,
an independent, then that's what it is.
Speaker 1 (26:25):
Well, think about it is everybody's gonna follow the SEC.
And what I mean by that the SEC and the
Big ten or the two biggest conferences that are out there.
They're trying to cap it and that's what Joe was
talking about, capping it with the most that you can
have in a conference as nineteen teams. If they separate themselves,
they're going to give themselves a platform to almost emulate
(26:49):
the NFL, where you're gonna have divisions and you're gonna

Back to SEC Media Days and one of the stories
that is being talked about and should be talked about,
let's be honest about it, is the Oklahoma football team.
Oklahoma is coming off a ten win season and a
College Football Playoff appearance, but where is their ceiling and

what is it all about?

When you look at Oklahoma.

Mattiir obviously was playing with a broken hand and thumb
last season, finished with fourteen touchdowns and eleven interceptions. Texas
made them feel very, very uncomfortable. But you start to
look at Oklahoma and has the experience at the quarterback
been better for them or do they have to get

better at execution. So we will see about that. But
Vinable's got a chance to talk and he talked about
the hunger that his team has for this season.

The hunger of this football team is there, I think,
the motivation to put themselves in the conversation down the road,
the willingness to do the work that it takes to
put ourselves in that position down the road too. So
we're trying to focus and be rooted in work, rooted
in our preparation, rooted in our brotherhood, loyalty, the toughness
that it takes to win and do the things that

winning requires.

And that's one thing too when you look at where
Oklahoma was just a few years ago, they were a
team that everybody was like, I don't know Ivnibles is
the right guy.

Oh Texas had that great year in the SEC, Oklahoma
did not have that great year, and then boom the
very next season, here we are.

A ten win season, and of course a college football appearance.
Is this Oklahoma team one that folks will be talking
about later on this year.

They will be I like coach vinibles with my son
would not be there if I didn't think that he
was a good quality coach and a great human being.
That being said, that's where it ends like I'm a
long horned fan. I want the Horns to do well,
and he had no choice this season then to tell

his quarterback, Listen.

You need to get bigger and stronger because.
Speaker 2 (30:56):
You know we're gonna work on this offensive line because
the offensive line was a problem for them last year
and Texas has upgraded their defense. You have got to
be ready. And don't think for one second that it
don't start right there. Because I watched three Oklahoma games
in the last two days because they're showing Oklahoma against Alabama.

And repeat on ESPN, and.
Speaker 2 (31:29):
This offensive line was getting pushed around. Oklahoma's offensive line
was getting pushed around. So now they have to they
had to upgrade their offensive line.

Materier is gonna be big. They're gonna do a lot more.

Aggressive running the quarterback as well as trying to.
Speaker 3 (31:48):
Improve their running game. So yeah, I feel.

Like he's on the right page of getting that offense fix.

But still nonetheless Harde.

Texas defense is going to be different this year than
it has been in years past, right, so we have
something to really look forward to see.

Is that time of the year where on paper you
start to look at teams and they match up and
how they're going to play. Obviously, once the game start,
everything kind of shifts and you can see a little
bit clearly on who teams truly are and what they're
going to be like moving forward. Another team that is

on the schedule is Tennessee. Tennessee's got a quarterback question.
Josh Heipel has to choose between George McIntyre and a
five star quarterback freshman Faison Brandon. The one thing about
McIntyre is I heard a former coach, one of his
former coaches, talk about how he never wanted to practice,
(32:55):
but miraculously he would be ready to go during the
full ball season. He wouldn't practice all week and then
all of a sudden, oh man, I'm ready to go
on Friday, and he would go out and play. So
that'll be interesting to see how guys really act during practice.
I'm not saying he has to be the best out there,
(33:15):
because a lot of guys aren't very good at practice
all the time. But when the lights are on and
they're the brightest, some guys perform very well in those
types of moments. So we'll see who they are by
that first SEC matchup on September the twenty sixth against
Tennessee in Knoxville is going to be a crazy, crazy time.
(33:38):
Don't forget Josh Hipel, former quarterback at Oklahoma, is you
know the reputation for playing the University of Texas, so
Hypel will be locked in for that.
Speaker 3 (33:49):
Well, he's a quarterback whisperer.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
But I'm just saying hard like, anytime you have a
rookie or freshman quarterback, you bait him throw things at
them that you know they haven't seen before.
Speaker 3 (34:03):
Tennessee.

I don't think is in the conversation as one of
the teams that's gonna be able to have a serious
run against Texas.

Now, LSU, they brought in a great.

Quarterback, and I don't know about great, but he's really good.
But they also he's got a lot of experience. YEP,
and those are the quarterbacks that you're gonna have to
worry about.

It's gonna be interesting to see how it all plays Georgia,
especially with guys that are on the schedule. Somebody that's
not on the schedule is the Georgia Tech Yellowjackets. And
one thing about Georgia Tech, their coach is a no
nonsense type of guy. And this is from ACC media

but we just had so much stuff to get into.

Let's be real, the adults in the room sometimes end
up being the bigger problem. And I'm very transparent with
my team about that. We talk very real in terms
of that. Look, we're co workers. There's no dictatorship at
Georgia Tech. I'm the head coach, I'm the leader, yes,
but we have to work together and they understand that

it's about the players at Georgia Tech. Always has been
and always will be as long as I'm the head
football coaching.

They have re established themselves as a national powerhouse and
under Steve Sakesian, they possess arguably the deepest roster in
college football. Harge, My take is this, when Texas plays

about the standard being the standard and everybody having that discussion. Yeah, well,

now head coach of the Techxas State Bobcats G. J. Kenney,
and he talked at the Texas High School Coaches Convention
about the opportunity to play Texas in their very first
game of the year.

Super fired up to be honest with you know, growing
up in the state of Texas, signing with Texas out
of high school, and then getting the opportunity to to
now you know, walk in there and and and look
up and and you know, be a head coach of
the team playing University of Texas. It's gonna be really
special for me personally. I know that, you know, I
know our kids are excited and and you know there's
all kinds of motivational tactics that you use, you know,

leading up to those games. But I think for us
is is, you know, we get to play the number
one team in the country, uh, with you know, arguably
the two top players in college football, you know, probably
the number number one pick the number two pick. How
ready it works out? Uh, And so for us it'll
be a great opportunity to play the best coaches too.
We get to compete against the best obviously, got a
ton of respect for coach Sark and that whole staff,

and then you know, the players and then kind of
see where we're at the you know, hopefully we're gonna
judge it too hard on that one, but you know,
it'll be a very good, you know game for us
coming out of fall camp, getting to play the beast
to kind of see where we're at, because obviously we
got U two, say North Texas and uh, you know you.

So he's saying all the right things hard he said,
but except for one. But we still want to kick
him in the teeth because I'm trying to send a
message of my team that I'm not afraid to put

ready to play. Uh Gkenny and his squad knows exactly
who the University of Texas is. They're playing in the
PAC twelve now, and just like Texas in the SEC,
Texas just wants to win the SEC and let the
chips fall where they may, Texas State wants to come
out here. They're gonna get a good check and they're

gonna get a chance to go out there and play
to the best of their abilities. They know they're thirty
and a half point dog and it's not like it's
an touchdown, So he knows exactly what it is and
what they're up against, and they're gonna have to be
ready to go. But for me, I think that is
gonna show us a lot about the Texas football team

as well as what we're gonna see from Texas State.
Because Texas, knowing that they're a big favorite, knowing that
they have Texas State on the schedule, knowing that the
second game is against Ohio State, where's this team's focus
going to be? Are you going to be locked in
as we say, one week at a time? That is

the key and Texas will have to show that and
when they come out and play against Texas State can't
wait for it.

days will roll on. Yesterday, you had some special moments
with Kentucky, you had Tennessee great venables over at Oklahoma,
and of course Eli Drinkwitz with Missouri. The big news

for Eli Drinkwitz and Missouri running back Ahmad Hardy, who
got shot during the offseason, is fully ready to go.
He will be able to play. They don't know if
he's going to be able to play the beginning of
the season, but he's working through his rehab. He's one
of the top running backs in the SEC, and he
was somebody that the NFL was looking at. John the
(02:41):
Teer met with the media and kind of just gave
everybody the thought that he is in a better place
right now. Venables believes that his team is hungry. We'll
hear from him another time, but it is a lot
going on and SEC media days continues to roam. Today
you'll get a chance to hear from Shane Beamer. Shane Beemer,
(03:03):
the head coach of South Carolina. I think he has
as best as draws on because as soon as they
light a match, it's gonna burn up because his seat
is that hot. Good Vanderbilts, Clark Lee talking about what's
gonna happen post Pavia, what's next for them. Auburn with
their new coach Alex Golish, he's in. And now Kirby Smart,
(03:27):
the dean of the SEC, the one who's been the
longest tenured, especially now that.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
What was the guy.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Oh Stoops Stoops from Kentucky is now gone. Kirby Smart
is the longest tenured head coach in the SEC. But
yesterday will Stein, former Lake Travis offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach,
is now the head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats. And
(03:56):
obviously replacing Stoops was huge Mark. I mean, Stoops has
been there forever. He's he is the Stoops I believe,
if I'm not mistaken. He's working on the staff here
at the University of Texas as an analyst. But you
start to understand that there needed to be a change,
and will Stein was asked during this press conference yesterday, Hey,
(04:19):
what's gonna be the biggest difference for Kentucky and to
turn this thing around?
Speaker 3 (04:24):
What do you think the biggest difference is?
Speaker 4 (04:26):
I think because of me, To be honest, I think
it's a mean I think I know what it takes.
I've seen at the highest levels. I know what it
takes to recruit at this level. And you just got
to believe, man, you just got to put the ball
down a play. There's not really else to be said.
Is it going to happen overnight?
Speaker 3 (04:45):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
Yep, you don't know. And part of this is part
of this special assistant to the head coach.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
Well that guy right.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
There, loves him from him, and you don't make a
comment like me if you don't have something in mind.
He's got a plan and you know, confidence plays a
role in it. But also knowing that you actually have
some weapons offensively or defensively or schematically gives you that

type of confidence.

Yeah.

Well, I mean he's had success every place that he's been.
He's been the offensive coordinator, he's had great teams around him.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
He went out and got.

A good quarterback from the transfer portal that was part
of Notre Dame last year, and now he believes that
coming into this, he said he doesn't believe it's gonna
happen overnight.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
But he doesn't.

You say he didn't know. Yeah, true, but I believe
it's not gonna happen overnight. But he's gonna have to
work at it because the SEC is something that's built different.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
For sure.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
This is one of those conferences that you have to
show up every single night. It is huge for them
to make sure that they make the right jump. But
you also get a chance. They went out in the
transfer portal and they got our guy.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
CJ.

Baxter is one of the running backs for that university.
So let's see what he's going to be able to do.
They did some things to kind of uplift what they
expect to be a special season.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
So we'll see what ends up happening.

But to me being able to come into that first
time being in the face of the sec media and
given that response, I think a lot of people were like, Okay, well,
all right, why not. You got the job for a reason.
Let's see what happens next.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
Well, i'll tell you what, I don't doubt that he's
going to have success.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
What level of success is the question.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
With the transferred portal system, you can go from the
out house to the penthouse pretty quick, and it's gonna
down to are you healthy. It's going to come down
to did you find a diamond in the rough too,
because you can't just assume that just because you brought
(07:11):
somebody in out of the portal and they were good
somewhere else, that they're not going to have some kind
of mental block, or they're going to be injured, or
they just don't.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
Get the system.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
So you got to always have backup contingency plans.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
For your contingency plan.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
Well, we'll see what ends up happening, but it's an
exciting time for the Kentucky Wildcats.

You also had Oklahoma where they believe that they got
a chance to continue the success after what they had
last year. And just Geometer, if he can go out
there and play better, he's gonna give this team a great,
great opportunity. Speaking of a great opportunity, there's a story
that happened over the weekend by coach Steve Sarkisi and
(08:01):
he was talking to the Texas High School Coaches Convention
and he had brought up the name Jermaine Bishop Junior.
This is a guy that we've talked about that a
lot of people have had great stuff to say about.
And of course Dez Bryant blessed him enough too and
said that this is a guy that is going to
(08:21):
be hard to keep him off the football field. Well,
it's gonna be hard, but they might find some different
ways to get him on the field.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
And I'll let coach start explain.
Speaker 5 (08:31):
Yeah, I'm we're really excited about Jermaine. This guy loves
football like everything he does is he works at his
craft and he's excited about it. He brings great energy,
he loves the game, He loves competing, he loves practice,
he loves working at it. He's got natural leadership ability.
(08:52):
Kind of in that freshman class already you can feel
his leadership.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
But he's very talented.
Speaker 5 (08:57):
And in spring we played him exclusive lead at wide
receiver and he had a very good you know spring force.
And you know, one thing that we talked about in
recruiting with him was his ability to play dB as well.
So for this summer, he's been working at dB. He's
been learning our scheme, he's been learning the fundamentals that techniques,
and then when we go back to fall camp, he'll
(09:18):
go back to wide receiver again with the notion of knowing, hey,
if emergency strikes, here's a guy who already knows our
scheme and he can go over there and play on defense.
If he can continue to develop, he could be an
emergency guy on the defensive side.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
Of the ball.
Speaker 5 (09:34):
But we'll focus with him on offense when we get back.
But people don't know this. When we were at Alabama,
DeVante Smith was our emergency corner and he would take
the first you know, scout period. He would go with
the defense and coach Saban and play corner and then
he'd come over and play wide receiver in the second
scout period. So you know, think about that the year
(09:54):
that guy wins the Heisman Trophy, he was practicing on
defense part of practice, you know, just just in case, because.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
He was an emergency player.
Speaker 5 (10:01):
So it's not totally out of abnormal. I've been fortunate
to have guys who have done it before with me.
John Ross at Washington was a wide out for me
his freshman year, but also you know, learned nickel and
played some dB four US on third down. Dori Jackson
when I was at USC, you know, he was a
starter at dB and returner and I would play him about,
(10:23):
you know, five to ten snaps a game on offense.
And so this isn't totally out of the norm for us.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
I've seen it.
Speaker 5 (10:29):
But managing their time and managing their legs and really
monitoring their body I think is as important as anything
as we work our way through the season.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
Great analogy are great analyzing.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
What coach said was making sure that you monitor what those.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
Reps look like because you can burn somebody up and
you don't want to do that. I mean, we see
it with Travis Hunter and Dion and guys like that like,
this would be great if you can have one of those.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
Yeah, he's definitely somebody that everybody is excited about. They
they keep talking about him during the spring and what
he was able to do, and we'll see what if
he's going to get that opportunity in the fall. When

Greg Sankey spoke at the SEC Media Days told about
the possibilities of the SEC breaking away from the NCAA
and also gave numbers on the fans support per game
for SEC.

So much to get into and also don't forget.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
At eight o'clock, we'll talk to dallascowboys dot COM's Tommy
Yarish and get his thoughts as Cowboys get ready for
training camp. In one hour from now, we'll talk to
the voice of the Houston Texans, Mark Vandermir, because we're
your home of the Houston Texas Texans. We will talk
to Mark Vandermir as the Texans go to camp starting

tomorrow or actually today, excuse me. The rookies report today
and the Vets report next week. Mark, as we mentioned,
he started looking at the SEC and the thought process
of who is going to win it, how they're going
to get there, But we also talk about individual players
(13:14):
and Cole Thompson, who works out of Houston and one
of our part of iHeart and one of the guys
that is close to the programs and the SEC. He
had a conversation about one Colin Simmons and how he
will be a difference maker.
Speaker 6 (13:33):
There's one player who I would take if you were
telling me I get to draft them and they get
to be a difference maker for the next decade at.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
The NFL level.
Speaker 6 (13:39):
To me, it's Colin Simmons coming out of Texas. I
think Colin Simmons is just that difference maker coming off
the edge. He was phenomenal as a freshman last season,
became an elite run defender and a very good upside
and pass runsher. So now it's year three working in
Will Much Chance defense, but he is told to do
two things at a high level. Get to the quarterback,
(14:01):
take away the run game. If Texas is going to
be as good as I think they can, they're gonna
have to be able to trust their front Steven to
make a lot of plays because the back end is
going to be going through a transitional period with a
new play caller.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
And that's why they brought in Will Much Chance to
begin with.
Speaker 6 (14:16):
So Simmons his ability to win one on one battles.
His first step is so explosive. He wins off the
line of scrimmage. He's able to bully offensive lineman into oblivion.
And even though I do think that you can talk
about a guy like Dylan Stewart, the production's already there
for a not like Colin Simmons, And if you're telling
me that I get another year of him, a little
(14:37):
bit bigger, a little bit faster, a little bit more agile.
We can talk about what arch Manning is supposed to be,
but this is gonna be one of those times where
as dmit you brought up quarterbacks, gonna get the love.
But the reality is that it's probably somebody else that's
actually gonna be the major attributor of why your team
is successful.
Speaker 1 (14:54):
Let me ask you this, because if you look at
Colin Simmons and what he's been able to do, everybody
was talking about his year last year.
Speaker 3 (15:02):
Oh, he didn't do as well. He didn't.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
He didn't get off to a great start. Colin Simmons
led the sec in sacks last year. He ended up
slowing himself down and being under control and it benefited him.
He had forty three total tackles, twenty three of those
were solo tackles last year, and he forced three fumbles.
(15:24):
So for everybody that was looking at him and saying, wow,
he didn't have a great year, he didn't start off great.
I mean the in the purpose of playing is getting
better every single game and every single week, and If.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
That is the case, that's exactly what happened. That's exactly
what he did.
Speaker 2 (15:45):
He got better, it ramped up and kept ramping and
got to the end of the season.
Speaker 7 (15:49):
He was.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
Doing their unblockable at times, and we saw it in
the OU game, like they could not block him and
he was a difference maker. He's gonna be better at
that this year for the simple reason hard of the
schematics of the of it all. You cannot double team
(16:12):
him every play. Now they're gonna send bals up the middle.
The running back is gonna have to chip him, be waiting,
be waiting, get in his face. You're gonna have to
You gont have to put the mouth piece in a
lot of these running backs don't wear a mouthpiece.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
Well that's the overweight.
Speaker 2 (16:31):
Now you're gonna have a linebacker two hundred and forty
pounds screaming down your neck right down the middle of
the defense.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
And who's gonna who's gonna help.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
You're gonna move the tight end over there to help
Colin block Colin? What about the other side? Lance is
gonna get off? So it's like this defense is multiple now.
So uh, and we haven't even talked about what the
defensive tackles are gonna be able to bring to this defense,
Like it could be a it could be a roof
(17:02):
leaking water, like you just don't know where it's coming from.
And I feel like that's going to be the advantage
that Colin Simmons is going to have.
Speaker 1 (17:13):
Colin Simmons, in his two seasons on the forty acres,
already has twenty one sacks. He tied for a freshman
record or tied for third as a freshman with nine sacks,
followed up with twelve sacks to lead the SEC in
that category. But he does more than that. Your game
(17:33):
plan is to stop him. When you're looking at defenses
and you're walking to the line of scrimmage, everybody tries
to find the micropacker, but they also are going to
be trying to find out where Colin Simmons is. And
the art of the disguise is going to help the
University of Texas.
Speaker 2 (17:53):
So, oh, you remember being a kid playing hide and
seek and everybody'll be like, there you go, right there,
he's behind the tree.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
That's what you're gonna get every play.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
Everybody's gonna be doing the Sophie Cunnyhill I'm trying to
point at people.
Speaker 3 (18:09):
There're gonna be pointing at him.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
There's the guy sight in move over on his side
running back before you leak out, you need to chip him.
Like your whole defensive offensive strategy is gonna be to
contain the guy that's the most dangerous. We're is gonna
leave us openings for other people to do their job.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
The one thing that I look at when I when
I watch calling Colin Simmons is his ability to play
with controlled rage, him coming off of that edge and
being that guy that can be so disruptive without without
overrunning play, yeah, without being too anxious. And that's what
(18:52):
he was in the very beginning of the season last
year when he came in, was talking about breaking the
record for the most sacks and all these different things. Well,
then the game slowed down to him again and he
got back to being the Colin Simmons that a lot
of people thought they were gonna see at the very
beginning of the year. But as I said before, and
I'll continue to say it, sign of a well coached
(19:14):
team is a week to week improvement.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
The sign of a.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
Good player is ready to be able to make the
adjustments and continue to get better as well. So whenever
you get to that point, that's what you want to see.
And the other person that will be taking the trip
to SEC media days is QB one.
Speaker 3 (19:38):
That will be arch Manning.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
Arch Manning's getting a lot of love and there's finally
somebody that understood the assignment when arch finished out the season.
Speaker 8 (19:49):
I think another way to tell the non ball OBErs
this summer is to rank arch Manning number one or
number two in quarterback lists and watch him come out
of the woodwork and say you're just doing it because
of his name.
Speaker 3 (20:00):
He sucked, he was terrible, he was awful. I can't
believe this. Didn't you learn your lesson last year?
Speaker 8 (20:04):
Listen if you say that, you either didn't watch, didn't
pay attention, or you're just stupid, because nobody, nobody told
the truth about archs man any more than me. I
was excited about him coming into the year. Then he
was straight for about six weeks. He was bad for
six weeks.
Speaker 3 (20:20):
He was terrible.
Speaker 8 (20:21):
But if you weren't watching and you didn't notice by
October that guy was putting things together. That game where
he basically beat Oklahoma, I mean like he was dominated
against Oklahoma. He put together a couple of other good games,
and then by November he was just damn good. He's
got the wheels, he's got the mind, he's got the arm,
He's got every tool that you want. He's got a
Texas team that will bounce back. He had Wingo a
(20:42):
great receiver. I think he's a very good receiver. Now
he's got cam Coleman coming in from Auburn. He's got
two running backs coming in Hollywood, Smothers and Relie Brown
that are going to take the load off of him.
He's got the best skill position players in the country.
Perhaps he is going to be very, very good now.
The arch Manning question mark is was the first month
of the season. I tell that he's always going to
(21:03):
struggle earlier that he's got some struggle in him. Or
is it going to be arch Manning exclamation point what
he was at the end of the year, goes forward,
he develops, and he becomes the best player in the country,
because that is absolutely on the table. And if he
does that, Texas could win the national title. If he doesn't,
then he will miss the playoff.
Speaker 1 (21:21):
I beg to differ with him because I believe on
this station on the morning kickoff.

We said all of that.

We talked about how good this young man got and
showed that the work was being done.

the SEC, and I want to get your thoughts.

Southeastern Conference football remains the second most watched sports property
in the United States, trailing only the National Football League,
and we account for just over forty percent of the
life viewership hours consumed among the four major conferences. Our
football programs drawn average of eighty thousand fans per game.
(23:13):
That's our average number, and this was the stat of
my summer. That's the highest average attendance for any sport
league in the world.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
You buy or sell that, I'm buying.
Speaker 2 (23:27):
I'm buying when you come with the statistics and you
have that outlined.
Speaker 3 (23:33):
He was prepared to give you that, and we see it.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
I mean, just well, we had six games here and
there's two hundred thousand people walking around when we're here,
and you can only get one hundred thousand in the stadium.
Speaker 1 (23:53):
They pushed the limits. There's fire codes that are probably
being pushed, right.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
Okay, maybe maybe it's one hundred and five, yeah, but
nonetheless that number is six games, So you know, yeah,
I'm buying.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
Yep, I'm definitely buying too. And then you can see
the product continues to get better. There's a lot of
bidding wars for the SEC conference and what.
Speaker 3 (24:17):
Is going on with it.
Speaker 1 (24:18):
So I'm by by buying on that all right, another
by or sell the possibility of the SEC breaking away
from the NCAA, And here's their dentitch talking about it.
Speaker 10 (24:32):
Oh, it's very real. And this is something that has
been going on for months, because SEC presidents and chancellors
have been talking about this since about February when they
met in Nashville to talk about options of self governance
if they cannot get federal legislation. I mean, that's where
the conversations are. And you can look at the Big
(24:54):
twelve and the Texas Tech incident with Brendan Sooresby and
as an example of what this means means because when
you're talking about breaking away from the NC double A,
you're talking about making and enforcing your own rules. In
that case, the NC double A wasn't able to enforce
its own rules on gambling. So the SEC and Greg
thank you, will tell you we already do make some
(25:16):
of our rules and enforce them. But if they can't
get help from the federal government, get some antitrust protection
so that every time they try to make a rule
the nc double A, they don't get turned around and
somebody sues them for it. That's what these conversations are about.
Speaker 3 (25:31):

Do you buy or sell that common I'm buying that too, yep.
Speaker 2 (25:37):
I mean I'm doubling it down on that one, because
there this SOLI would be situation intensified.
Speaker 3 (25:45):
Whether or not.

They're tired of the fact that the NCAA will not help.
They're they're they're just they're they're a waste of time.
Why not enforce your own rules and have your your
own plan. Then to be a part of something where
everything is up in the air, we don't know. We
gotta wait on state legislature, we gotta wait on a
(26:11):
federal exemption, so we can make a decision. Get out
of here, make your decision, set your rules, and if
they do it and you become more like a notre dame,
an independent, then that's what it is.
Speaker 1 (26:25):
Well, think about it is everybody's gonna follow the SEC.
And what I mean by that the SEC and the
Big ten or the two biggest conferences that are out there.
They're trying to cap it and that's what Joe was
talking about, capping it with the most that you can
have in a conference as nineteen teams. If they separate themselves,
they're going to give themselves a platform to almost emulate
(26:49):
the NFL, where you're gonna have divisions and you're gonna
have the AFC versus the NFC, and then at the
end of the season, you're gonna have to go back
and forth.
Speaker 3 (26:59):
So this is.
Speaker 1 (26:59):
Going to be something to pay attention to. We're in
a different day and time in college athletics where you know,
the boosters they help, but they're not in charge anymore.
It's gotta be more of the governing bodies that can
kind of put some parameters in place, kind of like
our discussion yesterday. If there's going to be changed, there

has to be rules in place for that change to
be effective. So you can change anything, but how effective
is it going to be?

that is being talked about and should be talked about,
let's be honest about it, is the Oklahoma football team.
Oklahoma is coming off a ten win season and a
College Football Playoff appearance, but where is their ceiling and

what is it all about?
Speaker 3 (28:59):
When you look at Oklahoma.
Speaker 1 (29:01):
Mattiir obviously was playing with a broken hand and thumb
last season, finished with fourteen touchdowns and eleven interceptions. Texas
made them feel very, very uncomfortable. But you start to
look at Oklahoma and has the experience at the quarterback
been better for them or do they have to get
(29:22):
better at execution. So we will see about that. But
Vinable's got a chance to talk and he talked about
the hunger that his team has for this season.
Speaker 11 (29:34):
The hunger of this football team is there, I think,
the motivation to put themselves in the conversation down the road,
the willingness to do the work that it takes to
put ourselves in that position down the road too. So
we're trying to focus and be rooted in work, rooted

Is this Oklahoma team one that folks will be talking
about later on this year.

They will be I like coach vinibles with my son
would not be there if I didn't think that he
was a good quality coach and a great human being.
That being said, that's where it ends like I'm a
long horned fan. I want the Horns to do well,
and he had no choice this season then to tell

You need to get bigger and stronger because.

You know we're gonna work on this offensive line because
the offensive line was a problem for them last year
and Texas has upgraded their defense. You have got to
be ready. And don't think for one second that it
don't start right there. Because I watched three Oklahoma games
in the last two days because they're showing Oklahoma against Alabama.

And repeat on ESPN, and.
Speaker 2 (31:29):
This offensive line was getting pushed around. Oklahoma's offensive line
was getting pushed around. So now they have to they
had to upgrade their offensive line.

Materier is gonna be big. They're gonna do a lot more.

Aggressive running the quarterback as well as trying to.
Speaker 3 (31:48):
Improve their running game. So yeah, I feel.

Like he's on the right page of getting that offense fix.

Texas defense is going to be different this year than
it has been in years past, right, so we have
something to really look forward to see.

Is that time of the year where on paper you
start to look at teams and they match up and
how they're going to play. Obviously, once the game start,
everything kind of shifts and you can see a little
bit clearly on who teams truly are and what they're
going to be like moving forward. Another team that is

on the schedule is Tennessee. Tennessee's got a quarterback question.
Josh Heipel has to choose between George McIntyre and a
five star quarterback freshman Faison Brandon. The one thing about
McIntyre is I heard a former coach, one of his
former coaches, talk about how he never wanted to practice,
(32:55):
but miraculously he would be ready to go during the
full ball season. He wouldn't practice all week and then
all of a sudden, oh man, I'm ready to go
on Friday, and he would go out and play. So
that'll be interesting to see how guys really act during practice.
I'm not saying he has to be the best out there,
(33:15):
because a lot of guys aren't very good at practice
all the time. But when the lights are on and
they're the brightest, some guys perform very well in those
types of moments. So we'll see who they are by
that first SEC matchup on September the twenty sixth against
Tennessee in Knoxville is going to be a crazy, crazy time.
(33:38):
Don't forget Josh Hipel, former quarterback at Oklahoma, is you
know the reputation for playing the University of Texas, so
Hypel will be locked in for that.
Speaker 3 (33:49):
Well, he's a quarterback whisperer.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
But I'm just saying hard like, anytime you have a
rookie or freshman quarterback, you bait him throw things at
them that you know they haven't seen before.
Speaker 3 (34:03):

I don't think is in the conversation as one of
the teams that's gonna be able to have a serious
run against Texas.

Now, LSU, they brought in a great.

Quarterback, and I don't know about great, but he's really good.
But they also he's got a lot of experience. YEP,
and those are the quarterbacks that you're gonna have to
worry about.

It's gonna be interesting to see how it all plays Georgia,
especially with guys that are on the schedule. Somebody that's
not on the schedule is the Georgia Tech Yellowjackets. And
one thing about Georgia Tech, their coach is a no
nonsense type of guy. And this is from ACC media

Let's be real, the adults in the room sometimes end
up being the bigger problem. And I'm very transparent with
my team about that. We talk very real in terms
of that. Look, we're co workers. There's no dictatorship at
Georgia Tech. I'm the head coach, I'm the leader, yes,
but we have to work together and they understand that

it's about the players at Georgia Tech. Always has been
and always will be as long as I'm the head
football coaching.

the best recruiting classes. The Georgia Bulldog, the Fighting Kirby Smarts,
Notre Dame, the Fighting I they always are contender and
they live off the prestige and the top tier talent.

And then lastly, but not least, they say the Texas Longhorns.
They have re established themselves as a national powerhouse and
under Steve Sakesian, they possess arguably the deepest roster in
college football. Harge, My take is this, when Texas plays

Ohio State is going to be a great indicator of where.

But because there is a playoff and anything can happen,
I'm not gonna agree that it's only going to be
a five team race because the tournament says that the

to say it's a team sport. There's so much that
has to happen for all of these teams to win

about the standard being the standard and everybody having that discussion. Yeah, well,

you need to find out. The dude's winner. Yeah, I
believe that he finds the way to get it done.
So I'm not gonna just h it's just Indiana. Uh,
they won the Big Ten. In the previous year, the

you may be correct. You've got a great job last season.
He's done a great job everywhere that he's been. Yeah,

now head coach of the Techxas State Bobcats G. J. Kenney,
and he talked at the Texas High School Coaches Convention
about the opportunity to play Texas in their very first
game of the year.

Super fired up to be honest with you know, growing
up in the state of Texas, signing with Texas out
of high school, and then getting the opportunity to to
now you know, walk in there and and and look
up and and you know, be a head coach of
the team playing University of Texas. It's gonna be really
special for me personally. I know that, you know, I
know our kids are excited and and you know there's
all kinds of motivational tactics that you use, you know,
(50:33):
leading up to those games. But I think for us
is is, you know, we get to play the number
one team in the country, uh, with you know, arguably
the two top players in college football, you know, probably
the number number one pick the number two pick. How
ready it works out? Uh, And so for us it'll
be a great opportunity to play the best coaches too.
We get to compete against the best obviously, got a
ton of respect for coach Sark and that whole staff,

and then you know, the players and then kind of
see where we're at the you know, hopefully we're gonna
judge it too hard on that one, but you know,
it'll be a very good, you know game for us
coming out of fall camp, getting to play the beast
to kind of see where we're at, because obviously we
got U two, say North Texas and uh, you know you.

So he's saying all the right things hard he said,
but except for one. But we still want to kick
him in the teeth because I'm trying to send a
message of my team that I'm not afraid to put
it out there.

the sake of having a lap dog to play. I
want I want Textans to have somebody to test themselves against. Well,
I'm I know this, that team is going to be

ready to play. Uh Gkenny and his squad knows exactly
who the University of Texas is. They're playing in the
PAC twelve now, and just like Texas in the SEC,
Texas just wants to win the SEC and let the
chips fall where they may, Texas State wants to come
out here. They're gonna get a good check and they're
(53:18):
gonna get a chance to go out there and play
to the best of their abilities. They know they're thirty
and a half point dog and it's not like it's
an touchdown, So he knows exactly what it is and
what they're up against, and they're gonna have to be
ready to go. But for me, I think that is
gonna show us a lot about the Texas football team
(53:39):
as well as what we're gonna see from Texas State.
Because Texas, knowing that they're a big favorite, knowing that
they have Texas State on the schedule, knowing that the
second game is against Ohio State, where's this team's focus
going to be? Are you going to be locked in
as we say, one week at a time? That is

the key and Texas will have to show that and
when they come out and play against Texas State can't
wait for it.
