Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome back to the morning kickoff right here on Sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone live from the at
L and I got a special guest with us this morning.
This is a guy that when I first got into
the business of radio, he was one of the first
guys that I got a chance to hang out with
in a professional setting, but more.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Importantly in a personal setting setting.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
And he is my guy, Lance Taylor, And you can
follow him at Lance Taylor and you can also find
them at Lance's Locks.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
And let me just tell you, he's one of the
coolest dudes. He's a huge, huge Dodgers fan. He's a
huge Rams fan.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
He loves the Rams, but most importantly he loves college football.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
So he's joining us today. What's happening to my man?

Speaker 3 (00:47):
Man?

Speaker 4 (00:48):
I think the first time Hearts we hung out socially
wasn't Atlanta.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
It was Yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
I'll never forget that night. That was a lot, a
lot of fun.

Speaker 4 (00:55):
I was dating a different girl at that point she
were I think that made the night really entertaining for us.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
Hey, but I know you're a big baseball guy. You
mentioned the Dodgers.

Speaker 4 (01:05):
What do you think about uh, the three Swings from
three different guys to end it.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
I had National League, by the way last night.

Speaker 4 (01:12):
That's a good place, and then we're up six nothing
and completely falls apart. But I thought that was so,
I don't know, dis intriguing to watch how that thing
played out last night.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
I was all in on it. But here's the funny part.
I didn't realize that they were doing it. I didn't either.
I had no idea. And then I wake up this
morning because like you, I'm looking at the score, I'm
like oh, and then I'm like, wait a minute. They
had to go to a swing off, and of course
scherber that if that guy's that played and for clutchness
three in a row, I don't.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Well, we don't want to dance, bro, That's not what
I meant, Mark.

Speaker 4 (01:51):
But as a former professional baseball player, I mean, look,
I know purists are rolling over in their graves, but
I mean we we we we've you know.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
Re revised how we do it.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Anyway.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
We got a guy starting a second, why not just
have a swing off?

Speaker 1 (02:07):
I agree with that, And the other part of it
is too You're making it more exciting for the fans.
Everybody's trying to figure out the next move. And here's
the biggest thing you talked about the purest Well, they're
trying to get the younger generation to get involved in
home runs or what gets you know, the chicks dig
de long ball, but when you get a chance to
hit a home run, to walk it off, basically that
was the fun part about it.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
So I thought it was really really cool.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
But I want to get into this because you know,
last year, Texas comes into the SEC and a lot
of folks were they're not ready. They're not ready. They
come in, they get a chance to play for a championship,
they get back into the playoffs in the expanded version,
the only team to get back into the playoff, and
there are a couple of plays away from the goal
line to going for a national championship. What was your

(02:54):
your nation over here in the in the Southeast? What
was the conversation about for most of them.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
We're pulling against Texas? Was public in media number one
because you know, there's a you know, fair or unfair.
There is the perception that this is a pretentious program
and they're gonna roll in and you know they've they've
got the deep pockets and you know they're coming into
our league. You know, the untouchable SEC, and you know
halftime in Atlanta against Georgia of Carson Beg goes down

(03:23):
and you're like, damn, they're gonna win the SEC in
year one. Yeah, and uh, I mean it's still such
a successful year one in the SEC. But I do
believe that you're never gonna get SEC fans. If you're
a Georgia fan, you're not gonna get on board for
other teams Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn, LSU. But I think they

(03:44):
together pull against this Texas program, and especially this year,
Like nobody's talking about Georgia, nobody's talking about Alabama, nobody's
talk about LS.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
Everybody' talk about Texas and Arch.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Yeah, and that's an interesting part for me is like,
like you said, everybody continues to look at Texas saw
what they've been able to do, but they continue to
make major moves. You pull two guys out of the
state of Georgia to come to the University of Texas
as far as recruiting, and they make the announcement as
Georgia is talk. Yeah, I love that. You gotta look

(04:15):
at that and go crazy. But Mark, go ahead and
ask your question.

Speaker 5 (04:18):
Bro LANs I did hard just alluded to the fact
that I did nine interviews yesterday with nine different radio channels,
and the consensus was from everybody that, oh, well, Texas
had an easy schedule, Like Texas is not as in
control of who they played, They just played the roster, right.

Speaker 4 (04:43):
Oh absolutely, And you look at the easy schedules. Look
at Missouri schedule this year, right, you know, look at
Old Missus schedule last year. I mean, how does Old
miss have the second best defense statistically in college football?
They had that schedule with a first round draft pick
and a third year started quarterback Jackson Dard and they
can't make a college football playoffs? Right, So yeah, you're right, Mark,

(05:03):
The schedule is the schedule. And if anybody's got a
problem with the schedule, I mean, Texas is going to
Columbus this year, right, then.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
What's in Michigan last year?

Speaker 3 (05:14):
And we know Michigan wasn't the same You didn't.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
Realize that Michigan was coming off a national championship, was
gonna have a transition from Harball to Sharon Moore. But
you know, Texas still scheduling, you know, out of conference
difficult games, and you've got eight games in the SEC and.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
You don't set it up who you play.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
Yeah, not only that, you talk about the SEC, and
everybody's always talking about the SEC. But when Texas does well,
it was like, oh, their schedule wasn't as tough. They
didn't get LSU, they didn't get Tennessee. Yeah, they keep
swinging until left to right. And that's just college sports
and any sport. To be quite honest with you, we're
talking to my guy Lance Taylor. Make sure you follow

(05:50):
him at Lance's locks, because he does have some great
picks out there.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
I will say that.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
But I wanted to ask you that call one eight
hundred games. Let me ask you this, because obviously Alabama's here,
Alburn was here yesterday. What is it about that rivalry
that has Hugh Freeze on one end? And then you
got Kaylin de Boor, who is now in year two,
which I believe is going to be a lot better

(06:16):
for him. But now people are looking at him and saying, well,
you can't follow Nick Saban.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
Well, I mean, it's a difficult thing.

Speaker 4 (06:23):
And it's funny because we just right before I came
over to see you, we sat down with Kaylin and
we had about a fifteen minute interview, and you know,
we were talking about the fact if he ends up being
the third best quarterback in Alabama history, he's had a
hell of a career. You know, when you follow up
Nick Saban and Bear Bryant, I think year two is
going to be really really special for Kaylen de Boor.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
You know, going into that situation. That's one of the.

Speaker 4 (06:47):
More difficult transitions in the history of college football. When
you follow the best to ever do it, you know,
it's got to be kind of uncomfortable when Nick Saban's
got an office still at Bright Denny. Yeah, but I
think that second year, I think that he bils ownership.
I think there's gonna be more consistency at the quarterback position.
The Jalen Milroe experience was the highest of highs and

(07:08):
the lowest of lows. I think it's gonna be an
interesting year for Alabama in year to Normally, elite coaches
make that big jump in year too.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
And a lot of people believe that he is an
elite coach, which is why they went and got him
to be the next coach at your Alabama Crimson time.
As always, Lance Man, I appreciate you. I'm glad that
we got a chance to link up, tell everybody where
to find you.

Speaker 4 (07:30):
Lances like dot com and the next round you can,
you know, download it anywhere you won't but free play
every single day.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
Lances like dot com.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
And they're normally some hitting going on on now as always,
Thanks Lance we Man, Billy Lucci of text As follows
Lynce Taylor. He's coming up next and we're gonna continue
to roll on from SEC Media Days right here in
