(02:06):
R I'm shaking my head, yeah, hold on, let me
look right, Hey, let's get into it. There's so much
that was going on in the NBA, Mark and you
and I have been cracking up because of the fact
that there has been move on top of move on
top of move, But the biggest move of it all
(02:27):
has been King James litl Lebron James and the move
of him accepting the picking up the option of fifty
two million dollars. Now, Mark, I'm not gonna talk about
another man's money that we already know what he is.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
He's a billionaire. The money is the money.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
He's at the end of his career, So get as
much as you can possibly get.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
I'm fine with that.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
But you can't talk about how you want to win
championships and be a part of it if you're taking
up all the cast into fifty two and you need
help really fifty three because it's seven hundred thousand.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
Yes, yes, So let's not.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
Gloss over, gloss over the fact that that's seven hundred
thousand is added to that fifty.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
To me, I'm with you, I'm with you.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
So my question to you, and we'll get into it.
We'll hear from when When when Hurst, And we'll hear
from Sean Marks. Did he do the right thing by
accepting that, not financially, not the man at the end
of the line money, but did he do right if
he seriously wants to be a champion. The only reason,
(03:39):
the only thing I can think of, is he's doing
this so he can try to negotiate cutting the salary
into segments, like so give up some of that money
so they can go and sign some other guys.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
But how that's what That's the one thing that is
kind of.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
You can renegotiate your deal, or he can ask for
a trade.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
Now those are the only two. The only power that
he has.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
Now is to be able to have the most money
so he can help his team get better by cutting
his salary up, or they trade me.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
Well, that's the interesting part about this because Brian Winhurst
was talking about this yesterday, about him opting in to
take the money but also the trade value.
Speaker 4 (04:28):
Yeah, there's something going on here, and I can be
honest with you, I don't completely know what it is.
I talked to Rich Paul yesterday. He reiterated essentially what
he's told Schams. What I can tell you is I
do not think Lebron James is going to be traded
either today or tomorrow, or in a month or in
three months. Because number one, he makes fifty three million
dollars and doing a trade like that to a competitive
(04:50):
team that has a high Paybrole, it's going to be
very difficult. And secondly, he has a no trade clause,
which would mean he would control all sides of the trade,
not only where he would want to go, but he want
to get traded four and those parameters just make it
unlikely to do like that would ever happen. So while
it is fascinating to think about, I don't think that's
an avenue here. Also, I will point out that the
(05:10):
Lakers finished as the number three seed in the Western
Conference last year, and I was tightly bunched. The difference
between the three seed and the seventh seed wasn't that big.
But this is not a team that is not competitive
for a championship, and I would expect in the next
two days they add a player or two to their
core that would improve their hand a little bit. So
the way that the Lebron's operation has approached this is
(05:31):
an indication that he is not happy. And I'm not
sure what the Lakers can do to make him happy
in the next couple of days that they hadn't done
the last six months. And I'm not sure what his
next move would be after that. We're all gonna want
to wait and watch how this plays out.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
Yeah, Bob Baring lies his power with opting in right
because he can say, listen, I'm gonna wave my trade clause.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
He can do that, or he can.
Speaker 2 (05:59):
Say, let's renegotiate my deal, make it favorable for the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
Let's stretch it out over three years. Let's go thirty million.
You give back the Lakers that much money. Now you
can make a trade for another big time player. Does
he move his money around to the point that it's
going to.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
Be I would do it if I was a billionaire.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
He makes more money from endorsements, endorsements and outside things
than he does is basketball career.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
And maybe that's why he decided, you know what, I'm
at the end of this rope right here, and I'm
gonna take as much money as I possibly can, and
we'll see what happens. This may be my last year,
this may be one of those situations where I'm walking
away from it. But my question is, now that we've
gotten this deep into his career, like this is going
(06:57):
to be a record twenty third season in the.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
NBA, nobody is at nobody's yet at a very high level.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
But now he's played twenty three years and he's got
four championship rings. Is that it, like, does that outweigh
everything in it because he wants to say that the
rings don't matter, but the rings matter because he has them, right,
The rings matter, the matter if you have them. Yeah, yeah,
(07:28):
as Charles Barkley, if they matter. Yeah, you know what
I'm saying. Ask him if he if it matters alone,
Karl Malone, John Stockton, those guys that were outstanding in
their careers but never got that championship. And now you've
played twenty three years and you only have four and
you're supposed to be the greatest player to ever play.
(07:50):
I'm not bashing Lebron. I'm a Lebron fan. I'm not
not bashing them. But the but the but the moral
of this is are we It does just go back
to his point about well, I don't care about the rings.
All I want is my money. Now I don't. I
don't care about the rings. All I want is to
get paid. Wow, that's a horrible way of think. That's
(08:12):
what I'm saying, Like, you're not doing anything to better
your team if you're taking all that money.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
Right, look at you say about Dak.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
What'd you say about Dak and all the money that
Dak is making that is the highest paid player in
the NFL, Like, huh, you know what I'm saying, Like,
let's get it. Let's get what a Super Bowl ring ring,
because it matters.
Speaker 5 (08:35):
Do you think Lebron has a trust issue with new ownership, Oh.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
Most definitely, because they took his power away.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
Thank you, and they brought in they brought in his
replacement with Luca Dnci's that the new group.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
But they were setting up for that.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
They actually they told Lebron this is this was printed yesterday,
that they were not going to use any more resources,
draft picks and players involved in a trade to get
other people here for him to win. Everything that they
were going to be doing with those with the capital
(09:12):
of the Lakers was going to be front for Luca.
So that's basically telling you, hey, man, like we're restructuring
for the future, not for you know you, and trying.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
To win right now. So basically a new focused player.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
Yeah, So I mean lucas the lead now and when
you get that information, but you make the most money
and you have all Lebron has all the cards, really,
so they're going to wait till next year and then
he's an unrestricted free agent. He can go wherever he wants.
To but the Lakers will get nothing for him leaving.
(09:53):
So why would you let that happen? Well, I wouldn't
if I feel like, forty games into the season next
year and Lebron is still healthy, Okay, we got forty
games out, Like, let's see what we can get for him. Lebron,
do you would you? Is there a destination that you
would like to go to? That's the conversation you got
(10:16):
to have with Lebron. You can't have Lebron maybe the
one that has to ask, Hey, are y'all willing to
deal me? Because I think I have somebody that's willing
to take.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
Well, if Rich Paul is involved, and there's already been
a discussion, he's probably already h went out and trying
to see it.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
But here's the question. Who is going to have the finance?
New York Niggs has it.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
They can trade away anonob and that's horrible contract that.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
Now they're in phase two? What the Apron too? Where
they can't do that? You can't offset contracts now, Well,
I'm talking about next season when the season starts. I'm
not talking about right now. You can't do it right now.
So I'm I'm this is going to be a fact
watch because of the fact that Lebron is in that
that that grey area.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
That's great.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
All these young players that they brought in. Yeah, that
they're bringing in there, that's to be with Lucas. They
don't have nothing to do with Lebron exactly. I'm gonna
tell you what. I got a new team. We'll talk
about it, a new lift.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
I got me a new squad.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
Come on, man, b A. We're just getting started on
the Texas Tuesday. And I will say there are a
team from Texas. We're just getting started on the Texas Tuesday.
When we come back, we'll continue the conversations the NFL.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
Was it letting the NBA have all the glory?
Speaker 1 (11:38):
Some moves were made and I want to get Mark's
thoughts on it. And we have a question for you
out there on AM thirteen hundred The Zone on social media,
go check it out right here on the morning kickoff
on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Coming up,
in the next segment, we will have Joe Cook of
Inside Texas talking all things Texas Longhorns As Texas has
(12:01):
a new NIL initiative or innovation for student athletes that
is powered by lear Field, So we'll get Joe's thoughts
on that. We'll also have some thoughts on his offensive
players to pay attention to as well. Get over to
AM thirteen hundred to zone on x as. We posed
(12:23):
a question and this is getting a lot of traction
because I think it's a good question. There's a new
Superman movie that is coming out real soon, so it
got me to thinking about who is the most popular superhero?
Is it Batman? Is it Superman? Is it Wonder Woman
or even Spider Man. You can put other if you
(12:44):
would like, and tell us why you believe that this
is the most popular superhero that is out there. Already
cast my vote, of course, I put Superman. But I am,
as Marcus talked about during the break, a huge, huge
Batman fan. I am a huge Batman. You don't have
a superpower, Well, I mean he's a bat's wallet. His
(13:06):
wallet is a superpower. Oh yeah, that's dangerous, he liked
lebron My wallet tells you everything you need to know. Well,
I'm rich, that's right, I could do what I want.
Speaking of rich, Jeff Bezos got married to a woman
that let's just say.
Speaker 3 (13:25):
I get around with a bit around, right, you want.
She changed her face so much you wouldn't recognize her.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
So that's what she was, you know, comferent, she's a
totally different person. But I wanted to get into this
because speaking of totally different people, it seems like the
Pittsburgh Steelers have decided to make some moves, and let's
just say this one was a big one.
Speaker 6 (14:03):
In Pittsburgh, toughness isn't a trait, it's a tradition, and
this city's always had a thing for defense with an edge.
Now there's a new name stepping into the black and book.
Shutdown corner. Relentless competitor, a walking chip on his shoulder
with four.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
Wheels and no brakes. He talks loud, he hits hard.
Speaker 6 (14:27):
He didn't come to change what Pittsburgh stands for.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
He came to show he belongs in steels.
Speaker 6 (14:33):
Sharpened steel, and the Steelers just abotten Sharper.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
He made his own video to make his own announcement
one no insiders that was supposed to be about that
the Steelers have traded for Jalen Ramsey John new Smith
in a twenty twenty seven seventh round pick for Minka Fitzpatrick.
Speaker 3 (15:00):
Fifth round pick.
Speaker 1 (15:02):
Ramsey will receive one point five million dollars in raises
to lock him in at twenty two point six million
dollars of the sixty nine million dollars remaining through twenty eight.
John new Smith will sign a one year, twelve million
dollar extension, putting him at a two years, sixteen million
(15:22):
dollars with Pittsburgh. Fitzpatrick is on his way back to
the team that drafted him in the Miami Dolphins.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
Mark when you heard.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
This trade come across, what was your first thought for
Jalen Ramsey, the Pittsburgh Steelers and what the heck is
going on in Pittsburgh. My first thought was, did y'all
see the fight between Ramsey and DJ Metcalf DK?
Speaker 3 (15:47):
Yeah? Ooh wee. Why would you put all in water together?
Speaker 1 (15:51):
Well, they they're gonna have to go through it at practice.
They're gonna work it out. You know you they gonna
work it out too, man.
Speaker 3 (15:59):
They gonna be in city n Yeah. Yeah, dude, we
just become best friends. Whatever. Yeah, they just became best friends.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
You just have said that we're gonna we want to smoke.
We want trouble exactly, We want problems.
Speaker 3 (16:12):
Man.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
That's when you woke up and put on a pair
of an ones. You chose violence today, that's what y'all
did you show up at and ones? It means so
somebody gonna get in the fight because you don't want
stuff the good year? You walking in with an one? Okay,
So here's the deal. How you gonna throw the ball
(16:33):
now against pitch Bird? You got Joey Porter, you got
Ramsey and didn't they signed.
Speaker 3 (16:41):
Like uh Darius swear and Slate? Yeah? How you gonna listen?
Speaker 1 (16:45):
Man?
Speaker 3 (16:45):
They got the best three corners in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
They also have started a senior group for their team
because Aaron Rodgers is forty one, Cam Hayward on the
defensive line is thirty six, Marrius Slay is thirty four,
h Jalen Ramsey is thirty, TJ. Watt is thirty and
(17:08):
John Newsmith is thirty.
Speaker 3 (17:10):
So are they gonna trade TJ?
Speaker 7 (17:11):
Why?
Speaker 8 (17:12):
Now?
Speaker 1 (17:12):
That's what There are rumblings that they might be looking
to trade TJ Wytt.
Speaker 3 (17:19):
But I want to back it up a little bit
before we get on there.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
I'm gonna let you make this point because my question, though,
my question, is this Mike Tomlin selling his soul? Or
is this Mike Tomlin, as you said multiple times, being
kicked out of the group, and now he just got
to deal with the groceries that he's given. Or is
(17:41):
he saying, look, this may be my last year. I
want to go out with the bang, so please give
me the Jared Talh group.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
This seems like a Mike Tomlin move to have a
guy that's a swing play. He's not just a corner.
He can play safety.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
He can play the the buck position, razor or whatever
you want to call a safety slash, extra defensive back.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
Right at the highest level, Ramsey is awesome. So I
don't know how you can keep.
Speaker 3 (18:21):
What with that.
Speaker 2 (18:22):
There's all that salary on defense. You better do it soon.
You better trade. If you're gonna trade him, you need
to trade him now.
Speaker 3 (18:31):
Right.
Speaker 1 (18:33):
But my question, how does this play out for Mike Tomlin.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
This regardless whether they win the Super Bowl orre they
losing the playoffs, Mike Tomlin is out of there.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
This is not gonna be his problem going forward.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
I was talking to somebody the other day and I
did not realize this. Mike Tumblin has been the head
coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers since two thousands.
Speaker 2 (19:00):
Yeah, they've only had the Pittsburgh Steelers franchise has only
had three three coaches. Yeah, Chuck Nole, Bill Cower, and
Mike Commlin.
Speaker 3 (19:09):
That's it.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
That's unbelievable to think that Tomlin, my age our age,
has been the head coach since two thousands.
Speaker 3 (19:18):
Remember how young he was, right, he was a young
man coaching. So well you saying, yeah, Arge, we're we're
halfway in a marathon.
Speaker 1 (19:29):
That's why that question is if the young people were
to pick who they're super hero, Oh, yeah, they're gonna
pick Iron Man, uh, Spider manah, Captain America, you know what,
the universe Universal Soldier.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
Yeah. So my question is, truly is this his last ride?
I think it is. I mean, all evidence.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
Points to it only Aaron Rodgers last ride. He said
that he don't plan on playing past this. You bring
in a DK Metcalf who you was talking to out.
You got John new Smith, but you also have friar Mouth.
What are you going to do with this offense, let
alone what you just brought in? On defense? You said,
who's gonna throw against them? I'm trying everybody.
Speaker 2 (20:13):
Listen, you better run the ball because that that defense
is gonna take the ball away from me and and
the biggest piece of it, Kalais Campbell. You cannot get
pushed on him.
Speaker 1 (20:25):
I was so mad when the Cowboys didn't pick him
up on free agency.
Speaker 3 (20:29):
We'll get used to that, you know, we ain't.
Speaker 1 (20:31):
We ain't even call sa Kuon Barkley or or Derrick Henry.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
Why are we talking about I don't want to talk
about talking about football.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
Hold on, Kalais Campbell's not with them, Collais Campbell's not with.
Speaker 3 (20:46):
The Pittsburg Steelers. No, you're thinking of Cam Hayward. Cam Hale, yeah,
Cam Hayward. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (20:53):
They got Patrick Queen on that squad at linebacker. You also,
as you said, you got high Smith who was unbelievable
last year. Got uh Deshaun Elliott, Juan Thornhill, Joey Porter
and now Jalen Ramsey in that secondary.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
Yes, they're gonna be talented.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
Man, those two uh Deshaun Elliott and Thornhill will come
downhill and pop you so you can.
Speaker 2 (21:20):
I'm not even mad at what, you know, because you know,
he needs his money.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
Man, they need to do the right thing by him.
But I think because he's thirty years old, I think
that is.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
The reason they have to throw that out the window
now that they just brought in Ramsey, He's thirty exactly,
just three other guys on that defense that plus thirty.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
Percent. You know what double standards.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
Too much work on that line of scrimmage. It's a
greyhound bus miles when you play.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
On the defensive line. It wasn't it's note covering up,
covering up.
Speaker 1 (21:58):
Next, we're gonna talk our guy Joe Cook of Inside Texas.
A lot going on on the forty acres and that
nil money they finding a way to keep it coming
in right here on the morning kickoff on Sports Radio
AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
Speaker 3 (22:13):
It's Tuesday, so you know it can only mean one thing.
Speaker 1 (22:16):
Our guy Joe Cook of Inside Texas. You can follow
him at Joseph Cook eighty nine. He joins us right
now on the hotline on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
The Zone, and Joe, I'm gonna get into the Texas
situation and everything that's going on. But did you know
that today is National Bobby Bonio Day and he continues
(22:37):
to get paid big dollars just.
Speaker 3 (22:39):
Like he was playing in the game.
Speaker 1 (22:41):
And now he's been sitting at home since two thousand
and one collecting money from the Mets.
Speaker 9 (22:48):
Man, it's that Mets front office.
Speaker 10 (22:50):
You can always rely on them to be innovative, right sure,
I remember, I think there's somebody else who like has
got a larger payment with from some other team.
Speaker 9 (23:00):
I think maybe from like the Orioles.
Speaker 11 (23:02):
But because it's the Mets, it's always going to be
Bobby Boney to.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
Day, no doubt about it.
Speaker 1 (23:06):
He gets one point one nine three million dollars and
from every July first until twenty thirty five, twenty thirty five,
they're still going to be paying him. I love his agent,
and you're right, you got to be part of those
Ponzi schemes to get that kind of money right there.
But let's get into Texas football because some news came
(23:28):
out yesterday that Texas in lear Field launched the Longhorn
Sports Agency to drive in nil innovation for the student athletes.
Tell me what your initial thoughts was when you heard that.
Speaker 11 (23:42):
Yeah, I did a quick read through that, and you know,
I know lear Field considering it's you know, national involvement
in college sports for a variety of different ways, is
an entity that a lot of these schools are using
and trying to get involved. The way I read it
is that you know, they're just basically lear Field is
(24:05):
using the resources at the disposal of the University of Texas.
Speaker 9 (24:08):
You know, if if you.
Speaker 11 (24:09):
Have a deal with someone and it's like, okay, we
need a video or something like that. To me, it
reads as if the media capabilities that lear Field possesses
on campus will be available, and of course the will
be some facilitating of you know, facilitating those deals. But
you know, instead of just like signing a deal and
saying all right, go figure it out that they're going
(24:31):
to be lear Field is going to have the opportunity
to help. But I'd be on the lookout for, you know,
some news today on the NIL front or regarding Texas.
There's been a lot of questions about how collectives will
look in this in this modern era, and you know,
as a calendar turn, some of those rules changed, but
(24:51):
Texas is on top of those rules. So I'd be
on the lookout in a few minutes about what might
be next for collectives in the University of Texas.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
Sphere gotch that was definitely a question of mine. But
I also want to want to put in there is
this one of those where they they make it easy
for money to be funneled to the program, or is
this one of those that's legitimate, like we want to
make sure that the players actually have and not won't
(25:22):
for anything.
Speaker 1 (25:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (25:25):
I think that's exactly what it is.
Speaker 11 (25:26):
You know, if there's if there's some sort of deal
that requires maybe like I don't know, like a little
video or something like that, or you know, you have
to record a you know, thirty minute or thirty second
kind of stand up video.
Speaker 9 (25:38):
This is where you can go through that.
Speaker 11 (25:40):
But it also I'm sure you know, lear Field they
welcome in advertisers too.
Speaker 9 (25:46):
They know what the system's like.
Speaker 11 (25:48):
They got to blast their radio waves around the country
and so they know that there's interest for you know,
having these big names, big name college athletes get involved
with some of the messaging. So I think it's kind
of a relationship that helps everybody there.
Speaker 9 (26:02):
But it's just giving.
Speaker 11 (26:04):
It's more providing more resources to help student athletes. I
feel like fulfilled andil obligations rather than you know, someone
saying like Hi, I'm so and so presented by Learfield
or anything like that.
Speaker 3 (26:15):
I love it. I love it.
Speaker 1 (26:17):
So let me ask you this, Joe, you wrote an article,
and I thought it was an outstanding article because it's
stuff that a lot of folks don't really dive into,
and I think it's a great read. You wrote this
article about the Texas twenty twenty five offense and how
Texas has players on the offense from all over the country.
And you know, obviously people that watch Texas know that
(26:39):
these kids are from different places, but you really don't
dive into it, and it just goes to show the
recruiting landscape that Sarking his staff truly has.
Speaker 11 (26:50):
Yeah, They're they're pouring over every rock no matter what
state or time zone it is, or they're going all
over the country. You know, the quarterbacks from Louisiana, they
got wider receivers from from all over the US. But
the one thing, the one thing I thought was pretty
interesting was that the offensive line is pretty darn Texan.
And a lot of that is because you know, there
(27:12):
are still members of the twenty twenty two class that
are entering her fourth year on campus that you know,
when you bring seven people in for in one recruiting
class are going to make up a bulk of your line.
And even with Calvin Banks and and Cam Williams getting drafted,
and even with you know, a player like Malik Gogbo
electing to transfer, you still have guys like Cole Hudson
(27:34):
and d J. Campbell and Connor Robertson and Netta umio Zulu,
all guys were played in the state of Texas still
on the roster to where the only guy who may
be from out of state on the old line this
year is Brandon Baker from California. So just kind of
shows that you know they're they're the long corn. Recruiting
efforts are not limited to one state or one region.
(27:58):
If there's a good player out there that they think
is going to fit on their roster, they're going to
recruit them. And it doesn't matter what state they're in,
like you mentioned, if they're from Saint Louis or if
they're from you know, Oklahoma, in Mexico, Arkansas, Alabama, they're
going to go and look for them and try to
bring them to Austin.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
Do you think that there is a deterrent coming from
with the recruiting situation right now? Do you think that
it's a deterrent coming from coming to Austin for some
of these five stars because they know that they may
have to sit or are they going to have limited play.
Speaker 9 (28:29):
It's case the case.
Speaker 11 (28:31):
You know, maybe there are still some opportunities for early
playing time at some positions, you know, some more than others.
But it's it's one of those things where this is
a problem successful programs have to have to have to
encounter every year, and you know, others have figured it out.
Speaker 9 (28:48):
Texas figured is figuring it out.
Speaker 11 (28:51):
One of the differences, I guess is that you know,
maybe when you look at the Alabama's and the Georgia's
of the twenty tens and early twenty twenties, right before
or n Il got going, you know, there was no
such thing as payroll sitting on the bench.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
Uh.
Speaker 9 (29:05):
Now that's a little bit of a different conundrum. Uh.
Speaker 11 (29:07):
You know, you can have guys with six figure deals,
but uh, you know, the money only there's only so
much money, uh, in in every athletic department, and money
tied up on the bench is money tied up on
the bench.
Speaker 9 (29:20):
You know.
Speaker 11 (29:20):
It looks like Kirk Cousins out there in Atlanta, right.
You know, you can't have those types of situations. So
I think there that's an aspect of it that that
schools and football programs are still dealing with just an
added variable.
Speaker 9 (29:35):
But uh, you know, there's still a lot of.
Speaker 11 (29:37):
Players who understand that, hey, maybe I need a year,
a seasoning or something like that, and then I can
really make a jump at opportunity in my second year,
maybe even third.
Speaker 1 (29:47):
Joe, before we let you go, I wanted to ask
you about Trevor Goosby Goby excuse me. He's been getting
a lot of pub he's been you know, he's done
a great job from left tackle to right tackle. He's
been able to solidify that left tackle spot. How important
is he going to be to the success this season?
Speaker 9 (30:06):
Man?
Speaker 11 (30:06):
If it's a good thing. He's on the roster, and
it's a good thing. He got to prove himself a
little bit last year. I think if he hadn't had
those opportunities against Georgia and Texas A and M and
even Clemson for a little bit there, that would be
a position of some concern, and you know, he would
still probably be getting the same positive reviews he has
gotten behind the scenes. But you know, people want to
(30:29):
see it in action. Well they saw it in action
last year and he you know, performed well against some
of the best defensive players on Texas schedule, So lots
of confidence in him, even though he may just be,
you know, entering his what third year on campus. There's
some people who think that he could just spend one
year starting and find his way in a good position
(30:51):
in the draft. So definitely someone who Texas is relying
a lot on this year, especially as they need to
feel a little bit more pushed in the run game
and protect that archlanning guy back there at quarterback.
Speaker 1 (31:02):
Yeah, you speaking of that one year. That's what a
lot of people are thinking with that guy as well
as always. Joe, great catching up with you, man. We
appreciate you and enjoy the rest of the week. Man,
Happy holidays.
Speaker 9 (31:15):
Absolutely, thank you, guys, appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (31:17):
There is Joe Cook of Inside Texas coming up next.
We're gonna continue the conversations Texas State.
Speaker 3 (31:25):
Well, it's PAC twelve country. Wow.
Speaker 1 (31:28):
Get it going cats right here on the morning, don't
you kid? Sports Radio A of thirteen hundred done, great
stuff for our gout. Joe Cook of Inside Texas coming
up in the next hour.
Speaker 3 (31:44):
We have a lot to get into.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
We'll recap our number one, but we'll also talk NFL
the AFC East. I mean, the NFC East is something
that we've always look forward to, but the West is
where it all goes down. So we'll talk about that
as well as the San Antonio Spurs and some moves
that were being made. But right now, I want to
(32:08):
give you an opportunity to win a pair of tickets.
Speaker 3 (32:11):
You know you guessed it to go.
Speaker 1 (32:13):
See Laney Wilson Laney Wilson at the Moody Center September eighteenth.
All you got to do is get over to AM
thirteen hundred to zone on that always free iHeart Radio app.
Type in AM thirteen hundred to zone. If you don't
already have us at your preset, you should already and
leave the keyword of the day by tapping that microphone,
(32:33):
and it is truck. Truck is the keyword of the day.
So make sure that you get a chance to win
a pair of tickets to go see Laney Wilson at
the Moody Center. Mark news came out yesterday.
Speaker 3 (32:47):
It was official.
Speaker 1 (32:49):
Today became the day that the Texas State Bobcats now
are part of the PAC twelve. They're officially start July
the July the first of twenty six. They will start
their schedule. This is their last year in the Sun Belt,
and they are so excited about this opportunity to be
(33:13):
in the PAC twelve man.
Speaker 2 (33:14):
They have been packing already, They pull the amps out,
put the DJ tables in the box, they are shipping it.
Speaker 3 (33:23):
They are out of that.
Speaker 2 (33:26):
I'm excited for them, though, And one the main reason
I'm excited is the money. The money, yeah, ru I
mean my money, son, Yeah, Because now they'll be able
to do some more NIL type stuff.
Speaker 1 (33:39):
And that is not just for football, but all the
other sports. They've always they've been historically good in track
and field Charles Austin Olympic gold medalists in the high jump, yep,
you know, like I mean, they've always had at least
one or two other Even the basketball pro has been
(34:01):
good in the years past. So I'm looking forward to
seeing them use that allocate that money properly, yep, and
disperse it, not evenly, but effectively, doubt, And that's that's
that's what twelve million can do as opposed to two
point five. Well, it got nine members in that conference
(34:21):
as of right now, it'll be Texas State, Boise State,
Colorado State, San Diego State, Fresno State, Oregon State, Utah State,
Washington State, and Gonzaga.
Speaker 3 (34:31):
Can you say Boise it without it sounding funny? Boise.
That's the funniest sound in the city. And if any
city listen.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
I want everybody right now, you say, everybody in your
cars right now, I want you to say it Boise.
Is it Boise or Boise? It's Boise.
Speaker 3 (34:50):
I've heard it. Say Boise.
Speaker 1 (34:52):
You've heard wrong, sir. You didn't even hear that. You
just made that up.
Speaker 3 (34:57):
I mean sometimes you got to make it up and
make it. Do it. No, you said confidence. Nobody will
think any other how weird? Say it again, Boisey.
Speaker 1 (35:06):
Everybody's in the car is laughing right now because it
sounds goofy.
Speaker 3 (35:10):
Boise.
Speaker 1 (35:11):
This sounds like it sounds like a name made up
on the Disney movie.
Speaker 3 (35:15):
It might be from the city of Boise. Oh my god,
what is wrong with this? It does not It does not,
But I want to get into this as well.
Speaker 1 (35:24):
As one team makes their move to a different conference,
the news came out yesterday that one organization will not
be started here In Austin, Texas. The w NBA announced
its new homes coming in the new season's mark and
Texas was not one of them.
Speaker 3 (35:44):
Austin was not one of them.
Speaker 1 (35:46):
Cleveland, Detroit, and Philadelphia were all named by the upcoming season.
So by twenty thirty, there will be three new basketball
teams in the WNBA.
Speaker 2 (35:58):
It saddens me. It truly saddens me. The WNBA will
not be coming to Austin, Texas. I have mourning feelings
because I was so excited that we would have a
team here. But I guess we'll have to wait until
(36:22):
the next expansion coming up in twenty thirty.
Speaker 3 (36:31):
What wrong not coming? You did not do that.
Speaker 8 (36:36):
You know who's coming here. Let's do that hockey. Hockey
is coming here. Now that we have that, it is
not happening for you. You went from mourning the WNBA.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
Our girlfriend, Harris, she was working hard, man, she was
working hard hard to get that basketball team here for
the WNBA.
Speaker 3 (36:59):
What they're saying hockey, Let's do that. Hockey.
Speaker 1 (37:02):
That's what we're coming with. We talked about it yesterday.
They are going to make a major play. I get
rold t they are going to I hope they don't
make something about the bats. Are the heell country something?
I need this team to have an Electric name. That
was all minor league stuff that that was independent. Yeah,
(37:25):
I don't need the real Like, come on, man, give
me something. You know it's gonna have Tito's involved in it.
You know it's gonna have something back the Lonex with
the your boy McConaughey.
Speaker 3 (37:36):
It's gonna be the Moody Center. Watch. It's gonna be
very Moody in the center.
Speaker 1 (37:40):
But yes, I'm disappointed that it's not happening by twenty thirty.
Speaker 3 (37:45):
You're right, there may be some other.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
News that comes out that there might be a way
to get a w NBA team here.
Speaker 3 (37:52):
But I think I never thought.
Speaker 1 (37:54):
I said, I think that the hockey part of it
will be something that draws the mum.
Speaker 3 (38:00):
As they saying hockey, let's do that hockey.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
I believe it, Lee, Man, but I was so looking
forward to a WNBA team.
Speaker 3 (38:09):
It sounded for say, it sounded like he was caught
up in the emotion.
Speaker 1 (38:14):
Man.
Speaker 3 (38:14):
I'm sorry for you, man.
Speaker 9 (38:16):
Sorry.
Speaker 1 (38:18):
Coming up next our number two of the morning kickoff.
We did the AFC West, Now is time to do
the NFC West. I want to get Mark stop on
who is winning that conference? Jerry Jones, Well, he's the
next Gambler. We got so much more coming up in
the next hour of the Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio
(38:38):
AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Welcome back to our number
two of the Morning Kickoff right here on sports Radio
AM thirteen hundred The Zone and our number one. We
talked about the NFL free agency going off. We saw
NBA free agency and of course we talked to Joe
Cook of Inside Text is about all things Texas Longhorns
(39:02):
and Texas State is in the PAC twelve in twenty
twenty six, and the WNBA is not coming to Austin, Texas. Sorry, man,
let's be okay. But right now we want to get
into the conversation. Yesterday we talked AFC West and the
thoughts about it, So right now we're going to go
into the NFC West and more importantly, I want to
(39:26):
know what Mark's thoughts are on these teams. When you
start to look at the Arizona Cardinals. Obviously we know
what Kyler Murray has been able to do throughout his career.
Now that he's decided to be a different person and
really focus on what he should be focusing on, and
that's trying to make his team. Better you go out,
(39:47):
you get Marvin Harrison Junior. He's ready to make that
next step. He looks like we've been talking about Superhero Action.
He looks like he was part of one of those movies.
Kyler Murray, as I said that, he's gotten a lot better.
You got a new court coach, you got the new
offensive coordinator. Now you try to figure out what's next
for this team. Vegas has them sitting at eight and
(40:09):
a half wins over under eight and a half wins.
You're also got Seattle, you got the Niners and we'll
go through all those, and you got the Rams. But
what is your first thought when you think up the
Arizona Cardinals.
Speaker 2 (40:20):
I think a Kylamary and his ability to lead the
team and not just be the starting quarterback. He's got
to lead that team, right, And you can't lead the
team from the back, and he is.
Speaker 3 (40:34):
Can you talk trash from outside the club?
Speaker 1 (40:36):
No?
Speaker 3 (40:37):
Right, you gotta be in it with your chest, Greg, yep.
Like this.
Speaker 1 (40:40):
This dude is historically being such an unbelievable talent that
he's been able to get by on habit talents. Well,
you like James Connor, I know you've talked about him
Jay Jones from right here.
Speaker 2 (40:53):
He has done his job. Best blocking wide receiver in NFL.
Speaker 1 (40:57):
And then you gotta look at that offensive line that
they're gonna be able to stay up. Then you go
on that defensive side. You mentioned his name earlier, Kalaius Campbell.
He is it at Arizona. You also have the defensive
back but Bank, but Uda Baker being able to do his.
Speaker 3 (41:14):
Thing all the back ten.
Speaker 1 (41:16):
You got Josh Sweat who came in from Philadelphia, big
time defensive presence coming off the edge on the outside,
linebacker Baron Browning. You've done some things to make your
defense better. But it's only gonna go as far as
Kyler Murray's gonna take you.
Speaker 3 (41:30):
Yeah, and he's got to get on that on that
pad and.
Speaker 1 (41:34):
Know all the plays so he don't it don't break
down because he don't throw the right route.
Speaker 3 (41:39):
He rolled out to the wrong side last year.
Speaker 1 (41:42):
How do you, as a starting quarterback in the NFL
go the wrong way?
Speaker 9 (41:46):
Wow?
Speaker 5 (41:47):
Well, what would help Kyler Murray is you add some
video game controllers to that pad.
Speaker 1 (41:54):
Well, he's gonna try to figure it out. He's gonna
make some things happen. And I just think that eight
and a half wins for him in that West, I'm
gonna take the under. I'm gonna take right at eight wins.
I'm gonna take eight wins. Yeah, I'm gonna take the under.
I'll go there with.
Speaker 3 (42:14):
Eight wins. Got you, And.
Speaker 1 (42:18):
Then you look at what's going on in Seattle. They've
made some moves. Cooper Cup, he still has the juice.
You got Jackson Smith and jigba At being the wide
receiver that he is trying to get better each year,
now that he's gonna be in his second year. You
went out and you got Sam Darnold as the starting quarterback.
(42:38):
Still don't know how I feel about that. You drafted
Jalen Milroe as possibly your future. You got Kenneth Walker
and Zack Charbonnet as the running back duo. Charbonnet is
really really good. His dad used to be my roommate actually.
And Kenneth Walker if he could stay healthy, he's dangerous.
Speaker 3 (42:59):
He is dangerous. And you look at the defensive side
of the ball.
Speaker 1 (43:02):
You got Leonard Williams, Byron Murphy nasty up front, and
then in that back end Devin Withertspoon, Tariq Woodland from
from utsa who's become a superstar in the league. You
got Kobe Bryant, and you've done some things on that
team that can position you. They are sitting at eight
(43:24):
and a half wins as well. I give him nine
Marco and that.
Speaker 2 (43:30):
That's gonna open up for Walker if he can't stay healthy.
And Charbonnay like, those guys are gonna be able to
run wild because sam Dono could tart. You safeties are
gonna have to play those wide receivers.
Speaker 1 (43:42):
And Cooper Cup he slipped a little, but he didn't
slip that bad. I ain't gonna be back ready to go.
He was injured too. A lot of people forget that.
You know, Cooper was injured and that was the you know,
they gave him the Rams, gave him the Yeah, this
is that time you start getting those old man injuries.
And I don't know, I think that Cooper Cup is
(44:05):
still a couple of years away from that. So let
me ask you this Cooper Cup leaves the Los Angeles Rams,
the Los Angeles Rams go out and they get Davonte Adams. Obviously,
Jordan Whittington is there for the Texas aspect. Pooka Nakula
is the go to guy right now. You got Tyler
Higbee at tight end.
Speaker 3 (44:27):
You brought it. Matthew Stafford renewed his contract.
Speaker 1 (44:30):
Gonna be there, Karen Williamson is somebody that's gonna score
touchdowns for you.
Speaker 3 (44:34):
No matter what.
Speaker 1 (44:36):
You got Pooner Ford on the defensive side of the ball.
You've also got yep, yep, you Quintin Lake. You have
Jared versus Gerrod Verse. Oh my god, that's a monster
on the outside. Now you moved him a little bit
so he can run from sideline to sideline. This is
a team that is sitting at nine and a half wins.
(44:58):
I'm taking the over. I'm saying over too. Yeah, okay,
I'm taking half. Stay at least ten, That's what I'm saying.
I think that this team is going to be back
to where they're going to be contending for a Super
Bowl championship.
Speaker 3 (45:14):
Yeah, and they were good before.
Speaker 1 (45:17):
They were just pass away from winning and beating Philadelphia
last year. Yes, I think that Sam Donald actually takes
them over to hump, No, Matthew Stafford.
Speaker 3 (45:28):
Matthew Stafford takes him over to hump. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (45:31):
I just I think that's a good look for that squad, right, there. Well,
then we go to San Francisco. San Francisco is sitting
at ten and a half wins.
Speaker 3 (45:42):
Put your mind.
Speaker 1 (45:45):
Brandon Aiyuk, he seems to be happy he's coming back.
Ricky Purcell, he is up. I mean, Pierce All is
back healthy. I've seen him out doing some things in
the community. Juwan Jennings did an unbelievable job last year.
He did it, got himself elevated obviously. George kittle Brock
Perdy got his money. And now you look at Christian
(46:08):
McCaffrey and you said, can this guy stay healthy? I
think he is like Jim Now you see the TV
show Mash they are mashing it man there. So the
San Francisco had more injuries than the Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (46:21):
Did last year.
Speaker 2 (46:22):
And that's saying a lot yep, like the whoever's in
charge of the training room, like either get somebody else
in there that know what they're doing or give them
a raise. One of the two, because they had a lot.
Speaker 3 (46:38):
Of work to do well. And you look at this
defense too.
Speaker 1 (46:41):
You got Nick Bosa, you got Jordan Elliott, who once
at one time was a Texas Longhorn, went to Missouri,
got drafted by Cleveland. Now he's with the forty nine ers.
Alfred Collins was a second round pick. He's going to
be on that defensive line. You still have Fred Warner,
you got Leonore in the secondary. This is a good team.
(47:03):
But for some reason, I have them right at ten wins.
I don't have them getting over that. So this division
could be the best division, is what everybody's telling me.
Speaker 3 (47:13):
When you start to look at the wins and.
Speaker 12 (47:17):
And I'm gonna give them nine, so you'll take the under.
I'll take the under. Okay, So that puts us out
your cousin. I need to create that count.
Speaker 1 (47:28):
Yeah, well you'll cut My cousins just happened to be
going to Vegas today, so you might want to go
ahead and talk to him real quick and see if
he can put something down.
Speaker 3 (47:39):
But you start to look at all of.
Speaker 1 (47:42):
These teams in these divisions and you wonder, what is
it going to be like when you look at what
Kyler Murray is as a whole. Kyler Murray is an
electric football player. When he decides he wants to play,
he seems like he is when something breaks down, he
seems like he's more motivated than he ever has been.
(48:03):
He just seems like a totally different person. You haven't
heard much from Kyler Murray. Then you look at what's
going on in Seattle. I'm not a believer in Sam Darnold.
I know he had an unbelievable year, but even with
all the pieces, he was with a great coach. O'Connell
was a great coach for him. I don't know what
(48:24):
this other coach is going to be like for him.
I don't know what Kubiak's going to be like for him.
Then you look at the Niners. All right, we know
who they are at this particular juncture, but when do
we change this?
Speaker 3 (48:40):
The only saving grace.
Speaker 1 (48:41):
That I will give them, they brought back Robert Salah
as their defensive coordinator. I think that's an outstanding move.
But I believe that this division is going to go
to the Rams. I believe for some reason. I'm just
all in on what I'm seeing from the Rams. Sean McVay,
I see a motivated Matthew Stafford. We talked about the
(49:04):
Davante Adams effect, and you got guys on that defense.
Speaker 3 (49:10):
Points something out feel free.
Speaker 2 (49:13):
So Higbee is a is a middle of the field
and an outside catcher. How do you cover a big
tight end like Higgby that could really catch the ball,
and you got Davonte Adams on one side and Pooka
the corp going across.
Speaker 3 (49:29):
The middle on the other side. It's gonna be. It's
gonna be.
Speaker 2 (49:31):
Man, it's gonna be hard to deal with the Rams
this year. And they were a team that almost.
Speaker 1 (49:38):
Made it in the playoffs too, right they I mean,
the Eagles got very lucky. If they would have been
on turf, I would have gave the advantage to the
Rams if it would have been snowing, right, Yeah, yeah,
I'm all about that. Coming up next, Jerry Jones does
it again? Been talking about Oh, we've been waiting for it,
(50:02):
and now we're on the cusp of getting it. We'll
talk about the man, the myth, the legend, the gambler.
Jerry Jones right here on the morning kickoff on sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred design.
Speaker 3 (50:16):
I am here.
Speaker 1 (50:19):
To make a major, major announcement. I'm devoted devoting my
basketball life to the Houston Rockets. We in there the
(50:41):
moves off switch. Welcome to the family.
Speaker 2 (50:44):
Thank you. You have officially changed your team.
Speaker 3 (50:49):
No, I just.
Speaker 1 (50:50):
Never really bought into any teams in.
Speaker 3 (50:52):
The oh, So you didn't even have a Wow.
Speaker 1 (50:56):
I'm making my commitment right here in front of everyone.
So we got in the front of our in front
of our thousand listeners on I mean our thousand people
on our stream and all the millions that are and millions.
Speaker 3 (51:12):
So we got some jerseys. We need to know your side.
No no, no, no no no, no, no, no no.
Speaker 1 (51:21):
I'm a T shirt guy. I'm not a I'm not
a jersey guy. Now what they have been able to
do is taken my heart away from Dallas. I was
all in on the mass for because they were making
some major moves.
Speaker 3 (51:39):
Remember I was.
Speaker 1 (51:39):
I was one of the few people that were excited
that they got rid of Luca. But I've decided that
I am riding with h Town with the get Dawn.
I'm part of their circle. Go Rockets Go. That will
be my new team that I'll be rocking with, so
(52:00):
rocket with Wow. Yeah, So we're gonna have a lot
of fun in here to have those conversations. You mean
to tell me that you're gonna give up and they
just got Flag Flag is gonna give up All Star
for the next ten years. Because of our duties, we
are gonna roll with all of them. I gotta, we're
(52:22):
gonna cover all these teams because this is an exciting
time for basketball in the state of Texas, no doubt
about it. When you look at what the Rockets were
able to do to go get h KD and bring
in all those great pieces that they brought in A
plus A plus a plus.
Speaker 3 (52:38):
Now I'm sitting sideways up in that thing.
Speaker 1 (52:41):
I'm rolling O Folk Folds in Age Town, Javit, DJ,
screw you.
Speaker 2 (52:46):
We gotta we got a new Texas anthem. So we
gotta change this. This is this is our music. Yeah,
this is the old school.
Speaker 3 (52:57):
You know. We gotta get the young people. We gotta,
you know, bring in a young crowd on this show. Well,
I'm gonna tell you right now. Let's let's play that
in the next second. The Rockets are my squad.
Speaker 1 (53:06):
Now you can have your spurs because you've been you've
been on the hiatus for a little bit. They want
you back. We're gonna rock what you're talking about. Hey,
hey man, you called George Gervin.
Speaker 3 (53:18):
I'm good. I'm good in that San Antonio hood. I
know you're good out the sun. But what I'm saying
is you're a Lakers fan.
Speaker 1 (53:26):
Yeah, so San Antonio is part of the under underworld
for you.
Speaker 3 (53:32):
The Lakers are your front running team.
Speaker 1 (53:36):
But now we gotta also look at what the MAVs
are doing. So it's going to be five respect for
the MAVs and for Houston, and it's gonna be on
and popping now in the state of Texas. But you
know as well as I do, when it comes to
the state of Texas, there's only one team that we
can all talk about, and it ain't Edge Town.
Speaker 3 (53:58):
It's got a lot to do. What's going on in
Big d.
Speaker 9 (54:04):
The role to a.
Speaker 1 (54:05):
Championships never paid smooth. It's always paid with peaks in Alley,
there's a soap opera three hundred and sixty five days
a year.
Speaker 3 (54:23):
Texas's football country. The Hole in Texas. Same so God
could watch his favorite teams, the Cowboys. When I bought
to two, I was dark. Later Dallas fans aren't happy.
Speaker 9 (54:35):
Last year there were one fifteen.
Speaker 1 (54:38):
I said, Dad, I don't know anything about running a
football team, and he helped me behind and he said,
neither do I.
Speaker 3 (54:44):
We were gambling my family's whole fortune.
Speaker 1 (54:46):
So I had to take risks and it started with
Jimmy Johnson. That's my lot on that other films.
Speaker 3 (54:56):
He made practice. Hell, the game is heavy. We were
ready no time. All of a sudden there was a
runaway train. Oh very everywhere we went. They were icons.
Speaker 9 (55:15):
We played hard and then we played hard.
Speaker 3 (55:19):
With that success, you also get disruption. Police officers came
to me and they pulled the gun.
Speaker 9 (55:27):
Put it to them right now.
Speaker 3 (55:30):
Jerry is that disruptor, that innovator. Not much for gamers,
A popular twind. No one ever thought Jerry had to
gut the fire. I mean, you don't know half the
stuff that was happening. Playing for the Cowboys. It's different.
Speaker 4 (55:45):
The most valuable sports franchise in the world.
Speaker 1 (55:49):
No matter what they say, they can't prepare.
Speaker 8 (55:56):
You just got to experience it.
Speaker 7 (56:00):
About it way, Baby, I could have done without that, Mark,
I should have done without that.
Speaker 3 (56:16):
The silence has been beautiful.
Speaker 1 (56:19):
Were back. No, we're back. We're loud, we're making noise. Yes, Yes,
talk to me about it. Mark, No, I like the silence.
Speaker 2 (56:29):
August because the silence means your head is down and
you're working.
Speaker 3 (56:32):
Oh, they're just gonna have a world premiere.
Speaker 1 (56:34):
Michael Irvin talk more trash than the sanitation department. Hey,
that's I don't want to hear it. Yo, he ain't
playing no more. He gonna talk.
Speaker 3 (56:44):
He gonna talk about the glory days because that's all
we got, That is all that we have. Okay say,
because I'm nobody's putting respect on our name right now.
But that's good. I don't want nobody to have ammunition
they go down. I want them to just wake up
and what is going on? Why am I getting hit
in the faith?
Speaker 1 (57:02):
That's what's gonna happen. That's because the cowboys look like
they moving bad boys, moving silence and violence. Yeah, and
that's what we're doing. Sh keep it quiet, cowboys, real
gee'z moving silence like like Lasagnia. Yea yeah, slow that
down a little bit. But all I'm saying is this.
I will be front and center August the nineteenth when
(57:26):
Netflix premieres The Gambler and his Cowboys talking about it.
Speaker 3 (57:39):
Crip Keeper. Crip Keeper is back.
Speaker 1 (57:41):
You know who's having a horrible time with this? Go
shoting me.
Speaker 3 (57:47):
No, he's not. He's done a great job of keeping.
Speaker 1 (57:50):
Jerry quiet and calm. Hey, let us let us work
in the in the in the night. When nobody's watching. Yeah,
and here he is running his mouth again doing a
big show on Netflix. Look at us, We're the Cowboys.
We haven't won a playoff game in ten years, Okay
(58:12):
longer than that. Well, I'm just being generous. You being generous.
But all I'm saying is this. We are in a
position now to where the Cowboys are now going to
be part of the conversation.
Speaker 3 (58:26):
They're going to be always.
Speaker 1 (58:28):
It's just like right now, if you look on social
media at this particular moment, every station on ESPN, the
Four Letter Network is talking about arch Man in the
future of it all. So they don't have a choice.
Speaker 3 (58:44):
Coach Shark built that. What do you think, Jerry Bill
That's why they're the most popular franchise out there. People
are talking about how much money.
Speaker 1 (58:54):
The Lakers sold for what you would think the Cowboys
would sell for.
Speaker 3 (58:58):
Wow, that's a good point.
Speaker 1 (59:00):
This has been building for a long time and now
it's in a spot to where it's like we're riding again.
Speaker 2 (59:08):
Man, we are riding again. I have to see it,
I have to feel it. I mean, I want an identity.
The Cowboys can't be an identity team. They I mean,
this offensive line right, that's that's that's where you start.
Speaker 1 (59:25):
If they can, if they can get these guys to
not have the penalties.
Speaker 2 (59:30):
And push people around an offensive line that Emmitt Smith
would be proud of.
Speaker 3 (59:37):
Yep, because you need it, because.
Speaker 1 (59:40):
These backs are not the backs that in this league
you look at and say, Okay, we got dominant traits.
Speaker 3 (59:49):
Sac one.
Speaker 1 (59:50):
Barkley is not back there because they didn't talk to him.
Henry is not back there because he didn't talk to him.
That wasn't a good business decision. It was. But they're
in a new place, they're doing different things. I gotta
see it hard. I have to see it. I don't
want to hear it. I want to see well. All
(01:00:11):
I know is this Cowboys are back. Netflix is about
to make a ton of money because guess what we're
gonna be.
Speaker 3 (01:00:19):
That's who's gonna watch.
Speaker 1 (01:00:21):
You're gonna watch it too, you know why, because it's
gonna be part of the shovel every day, every episode.
I'm gonna watch all of them in one city, and
you're gonna watch them with me. Coming up next, we
got the World's Strongest Man bringing you his world's strongest take.
Speaker 3 (01:00:36):
You do not want to miss that.
Speaker 1 (01:00:38):
Right here on the morning kickoff on sports Radio and
thirteen hundred the Zone.
Speaker 3 (01:00:44):
That's what he do. He comes in as the WWE
Hall of Famer and the world's strongest man.
Speaker 1 (01:00:51):
But you know him at d Mark Henry and he
brings you his world's strongest take.
Speaker 3 (01:00:58):
Take it away, big fellow, art What you know what
time it is? If time for.
Speaker 1 (01:01:04):
The world's strongest take by the world's strongest man.
Speaker 3 (01:01:09):
My I guess back then they didn't know me. Now
I'm hot, they all on me, guys.
Speaker 2 (01:01:18):
Harge had plenty to say in The Hard Knock Life
about how much love he has for the Houston Rockets
and what the Houston Rockets mean to him.
Speaker 3 (01:01:34):
And how now they are his chosen team.
Speaker 2 (01:01:39):
Everybody knows I'm a Laker fan, m but and this
is a big, huge giant But I've always had love
for the ice Man. And then I met him.
Speaker 1 (01:01:59):
In nineteen ninety one at the Olympic Festival in San Antonio,
and the ice Man brought me into the fold.
Speaker 2 (01:02:09):
And I've been a fan ever since. Now here we
are twenty twenty five. Victor Winding, y'am, you bring in Fox.
Speaker 3 (01:02:23):
Your rookie. Last year Castle gets the Rookie of the Year.
The previous one was victim winning Y'ama.
Speaker 2 (01:02:31):
Got the Rookie of the Year, and now back back
to back, and now you bring in Dylan Harper, who
they say, Harge could be the next NBA scoring leader
later on in his career.
Speaker 1 (01:02:49):
That this is the guy has the potential to be
a Shake Guilders Alexander type player. That's heavy praise, But
let's talk talk about the other moves that was making.
Speaker 3 (01:03:02):
Maybe they brought in Luke Cornett.
Speaker 2 (01:03:09):
Seven foot center plus, seven foot defensive guy, a.
Speaker 1 (01:03:16):
Guy that can hit the open shot, adequate passer from
the Boston Celtics, and now you have the Twin Towers
again and Victor winning Yama doesn't have to pick up
all of the top guys.
Speaker 3 (01:03:35):
Carter Bryant. Carter Bryant bringing him in.
Speaker 1 (01:03:38):
He's his game is a lot like Victor Winning Yama's.
He's just a smaller guy, but he's a defensive guy,
a help guy. We always see Lebron James chasing the
ball from the backside and slapping it off the glass.
Speaker 3 (01:03:53):
That's Carter, that's that's that's Bron's game.
Speaker 2 (01:03:57):
The Spurs have done everything that they can have done
and more, and I really feel like that this this
is gonna be one of those breakthrough years for the
San Antonio Spurs.
Speaker 3 (01:04:13):
What say you, I'm in. I'm in.
Speaker 1 (01:04:15):
But it's not taking over from our Houston Rockets. But
I do like what San Antonio has done. As I've
talked about before, when you start looking at these teams
and you look at the state of Texas, Texas now
back to the Triangle.
Speaker 3 (01:04:33):
Now it's the Triangle.
Speaker 1 (01:04:34):
Now you look at what Dallas has, the players that
they're bringing in the depth that they're providing. You look
at what Houston has just done, bringing in depth and
some score and some star power. Same thing with San Antonio.
This is going to be fun again to watch all
three of these Texas basketball teams because they each have
(01:04:58):
star on it.
Speaker 3 (01:05:01):
Marge, I got a brilliant idea.
Speaker 1 (01:05:05):
Wait, wait, wait, let's hear it first before we decide exactly.
Speaker 3 (01:05:10):
There should be an award for the best team in text.
I think they have that.
Speaker 1 (01:05:14):
I think they have a trophy that is presented to
the team with the best record at let's stay but
I think it's all their head to head matchups.
Speaker 3 (01:05:23):
Okay, I'll take that.
Speaker 2 (01:05:24):
Yeah, I want to know who that's going to be,
because this is this may be the most difficult year
in years past with Dallas having all the tools that
they have and all the guys they re signed, and
then you bring Kevin Durant, which hard job to be honest,
I feel like the Houston Rockets have the greatest chance
to win the NBA Championship next year over Oklahoma City
(01:05:50):
because Kevin Durant is that much of a game changer.
And then you add and the big issue with the
teams that play Houston, I mean played Oklahoma City is
Oklahoma City was.
Speaker 3 (01:06:05):
Able to defend everybody. Yep.
Speaker 1 (01:06:08):
Now they've added, Oh, Dorian Smith, Phinney Smith, the best
defensive player that was on the Los Angeles Lakers is
now a Houston rock said again, so when you go
to Oklahoma City next year, shake uders Alexander when he
gets that switch, it's not gonna be like, I forget
(01:06:33):
what Halliburn is the guy that.
Speaker 2 (01:06:36):
Nate Smith. It's not gonna be Nate Smith. It's gonna
be Dorian Finney Smith on that switch. And Kevin Durant
is seven to one.
Speaker 1 (01:06:47):
So all of those guys that got those bunnies seventeen feet.
Speaker 3 (01:06:52):
The mid range. That's gonna be help. And now at
center you have.
Speaker 1 (01:06:58):
Another guy, Legit that that can play against all of
your big guys. There's nobody on Oklahoma City Thunder remotely
close to San Goon. Not only do you have San Goon,
you have Stephen Adams, you have Jabbari Smith, you have
Clint Cappella who you just brought back as well. You
(01:07:20):
have defensive rim protectors, which is why email Doka so
much depth. I told you from the beginning, I'm a
big fan of what he is as a head coach.
Speaker 2 (01:07:30):
Just because I'm crowning them, don't get all giddy and
happy over there. I'm still gonna San Antonio over Houston
every time I see him play.
Speaker 3 (01:07:39):
That's what I'm be going for. That's what I want.
And you still got amen Thompson. Yes, hey, listen, man,
it's not age time. It's age time. You know what
I'm saying. That's what it is.
Speaker 1 (01:07:52):
Hey.
Speaker 2 (01:07:52):
But you're the winners of us. Like the fans in Texas,
I agree. Like, man, that's gonna be some road trips.
I want to go to some of these games in person.
I don't want to just have to watch them on TV.
Like Texas basketball is gonna be destination again.
Speaker 1 (01:08:08):
Agreed, agreed, And and those moments when they hain't to
get that deal with von Lane Quick the Spurs when
they come in to Austin. Now you're looking at a
totally different Spurs team depending on.
Speaker 3 (01:08:21):
Who they have.
Speaker 1 (01:08:22):
I'm sure they're gonna try to find a way to
have it with the Rockets or the Mavericks playing here
because that's already sold out. You you breathed that into
the atmosphere and the tickets are gone, because that's how
many people want to see those types of matchup. How
the tickets are gonna go up so high. Yes, that's
why you gotta be friends with Mark Henry the Strongest.
Speaker 3 (01:08:45):
Man, bringing you the world strongest. Hey.
Speaker 5 (01:08:48):
Yeah, the basketball season, I'm gonna have a few conversations
with my brother.
Speaker 1 (01:08:53):
We're gonna close out the show and send you to
Dan Patrick. But we're gonna close out. It's in the
gang all the way. There's a lot that's in the game.
We'll talk about that and the WNBA All Star Team
whooa might.
Speaker 3 (01:09:08):
Have to go see that too.
Speaker 1 (01:09:09):
Right here on the morning kickoff on sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred, The Zone what a great, great show we've had.
I confess my love and commitment to the Houston Rockets.
We got battles going on. We also got a chance
to hear Jalen Ramsey make his announcement that he will
be joining the Pitchburg Steelers and a great trade from
(01:09:34):
Minka Fitzpatrick. We'll see if it's all good in the hood.
We also had free agency as when Horse talks about
Lebron and what goes on with that. We also heard
about the partnership between Clearfield and the University of.
Speaker 3 (01:09:51):
Texas Texas State.
Speaker 1 (01:09:53):
Bobcatch are now a member of the PAC twelve starting
in twenty twenty six. Jerry Jones is ready for the
next Gambler. And of course the AFC, I mean the
NFC West was our feature. And if you miss any
part of the show, because that rundown right there just
gave you everything that you needed.
Speaker 3 (01:10:12):
If you miss any part.
Speaker 1 (01:10:13):
Of the show, all you have to do is get
over to our podcast page and download the morning kickoff.
As always as we break it all down. Also, I
wanted to make the conversation piece about the w NBA.
The All star teams have been announced and Paige Beckers
Caitlin Clarknfisa Callier, Alisia Gray, Alijah Boston, Sabrina Andescue, niamh Ami,
(01:10:43):
k Satu Sabali, Brionna Smith, and Asia Wilson all are
part of the w NBA All Star Games. Peck Paige
Beckers is a special one for me because I've been
saying at the entire time that is an absolute stud
and she is going to be one of those players
(01:11:04):
that continues to get better and better in the WNBA.
Speaker 3 (01:11:07):
And people are gonna be talking about her a lot more.
Speaker 1 (01:11:10):
But I also wanted to make the announcement that yesterday
EA Sports talk.
Speaker 3 (01:11:15):
About a sports in the game.
Speaker 1 (01:11:17):
Talked about having college basketball back into the video games.
Oh my goodness, they had it for football, they brought
it back, and now they're bringing back basketball.
Speaker 3 (01:11:29):
People are going to be excited about it.
Speaker 1 (01:11:31):
They will have to release me in twenty twenty eight
and there will be up to seven hundred and thirty teams. Uh,
it'll be just like the model of college football, and
there will be men and women's teams that will be
able to be played in EA Sports March madness. Wow,
that's big man, because I grew up with EA Sports
(01:11:53):
before that was such a thing as two K NBA
two K man, that's that's just so many hours of
my time went into playing that game, right, I'm talking
about who at least to a day through college.
Speaker 3 (01:12:12):
Yeah, like that was my game. It is a it
is a totally different time.
Speaker 1 (01:12:16):
As you start to break it down and you say, okay,
what are you gonna do? Well, Ea, sports is in
the game, It's gonna be right there, back into it.
What is that gonna do for two K? You think
that it'll it'll kind of split the audience or people
are just buying both. Oh, people are gonna play them both.
I mean, if you're a two K guy, you're a
two G guy. And then if you just like Madden,
(01:12:38):
if you were Madden, you're gonna play n C A A.
You're gonna get your time on all those games. People
are true to it. Remember back in the days, uh
EA had both games.
Speaker 5 (01:12:49):
They had NBA Live and they had March Madness, and
people both both games.
Speaker 3 (01:12:53):
It was to the point that it was like you
just play both games. Well, I mean, if you can
make it one game, it makes it.
Speaker 2 (01:13:00):
Then you can like kind of move the needle when
it comes to what two K has been doing. I
actually went to two k's upfront event with Ronnie two K,
the guy that hosts the game. They got. They put
a lot of money into that. I mean like tens
of millions of dollars in just the programmers.
Speaker 1 (01:13:22):
Yup and so that that to me tells you everything
you need to know. That the excitement about it. When
the announcement came out, people were losing their mind. I'm
excited for them because, I mean, the video game is
the video game, especially now with these kids. As we
get older, these kids are more in tune to all
these players and the college It draws more attention back
(01:13:44):
to the college game because everybody's always like NFL, NFL, NBA, NBA,
But you get back into these college games. Kids know
these college players a lot better. By the time they
get to the NFL.
Speaker 3 (01:13:55):
Well, they have to find some way to pay all
of these Oh yeah, they're gonna do that. People are
getting contracts.
Speaker 1 (01:14:02):
My nephew Nico is getting paid from EA Sports because
he's in the college football game.
Speaker 3 (01:14:08):
So Jacobs just signed his deal. Yeah, so you get it.
Speaker 1 (01:14:12):
They're gonna get their money, so it's not like they're not.
Speaker 3 (01:14:15):
Also, we gave you the opportunity.
Speaker 1 (01:14:17):
To cast your vote on the most popular Superhero on
AM thirteen hundred the Zone. You still have twenty two
hours left to cast your vote, and right now Superman
is leading at fifty four percent, Batman with thirty three percent,
Wonder Woman and getting no love. Spider Man is twelve
(01:14:38):
twelve and a half percent. But Sion Williams yoh Hoomie
said that the first recorded superhero would be the Phantom.
Phantom is the first one that was an actual superhero.
We talked about hercules, We've talked about what iron Man
and all the other ones. We might have another one
(01:14:59):
where it says popular you know, which one is the
most not popular? But which one? Yeah, which one is
the most popular superhero?
Speaker 3 (01:15:07):
Right now? It seems like Superman is getting and he Marvel.
Speaker 2 (01:15:11):
Made a lot of characters more popular now than they
were initially. And you know, like spider Man, of course,
you know, being one of those. Everybody knew that Superman
is the ultimate, you know, in d C, but he's
not the ultimate in Marvel.
Speaker 3 (01:15:31):
See.
Speaker 1 (01:15:31):
And that's the other part of it. Everybody has their
opinions about Marvel or DC. I like the Wonder Twins,
I like fantastic, who.
Speaker 3 (01:15:40):
Wha whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa? Would you say
the Wonder Twins that's Hanna.
Speaker 5 (01:15:45):
Yeah, but that's technically in the d C.
Speaker 3 (01:15:50):
Because they were in a Hall of Justice.
Speaker 1 (01:15:52):
You know, Wow, you really like your form of a
bucket of water?
Speaker 3 (01:15:57):
Yeah? For yeah, form of an airplane. You know what
I'm saying. I'm like, Yeah, I'm wonder twelve pound activate.
Speaker 1 (01:16:08):
Lord.
Speaker 3 (01:16:09):
And you know what I wanted to talk about.
Speaker 2 (01:16:10):
I wanted to talk about your feelings, your undying love for.
Speaker 1 (01:16:15):
These Houston Rockets. Yeah, it just brought something to me that.
Speaker 3 (01:16:20):
It just made me want to confess my undying love
for my team too.
Speaker 1 (01:16:28):
And sometimes you gotta say it with your feelings, harsh,
you gotta say it with your feelings.
Speaker 3 (01:16:34):
Well, let me hear it.
Speaker 1 (01:16:36):
My love goes out. What do we do to the
Los Angeles Lakers? And it always will.
Speaker 3 (01:16:46):
So much?
Speaker 1 (01:16:47):
Okay, can you tell us that we got a new
anthem for the younger kids. There's a new This ain't
right here, This is not it. Man, bump them kids
that we're talking about.
Speaker 3 (01:17:03):
Them kids tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (01:17:04):
That is not what them kids was there for for
this song and always remember today is Bobby Bonilla da
Oh my god, he got one point one nine three million,
how many years.
Speaker 3 (01:17:18):
Twenty thirty five? He is still wanting to get paid.
Speaker 1 (01:17:22):
But also Matt Holliday, former Saint Louis Cardinal is still
getting paid right now, one point four million dollars on
his contract. He's making more than his kid that's playing
in the big leagues right now.
Speaker 3 (01:17:36):
Oh my god, A ready make it more. He got
a bigger check today than his kid did.
Speaker 1 (01:17:41):
I want to thank Mark Herrey, I want to thank Marcus.
Speaker 3 (01:17:44):
I want to thank.
Speaker 1 (01:17:44):
Our girl Kimmy for making sure that she got us
some LFG catering.
Speaker 3 (01:17:49):
The whole staff got some. And always remember this.
Speaker 1 (01:17:52):
Don't believe everything you see, because even salt looks like
sugar will be better tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (01:17:57):
Folks. Peace,
