right here on Sports Radio Game AM thirteen hundred The Zone.

talkback feature. And if it's good enough, you might even
hear it on air. If it's good enough, let's get
right into it. Because Texas Longhorns went into Lexington, Kentucky,
a place where a lot of teams have had tough
(02:03):
go at it in Lexington, and they come out with
a sixteen to thirteen victory. It wasn't the prettiest victory,
but all victories don't need to be pretty.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
You just have to go out there and survive.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
And if you start to think about this Texas football team,
was there some opportunities that were missed?
Speaker 3 (02:21):
Absolutely?
Speaker 1 (02:22):
Was there some things that it came down to late
in the ballgame where you needed to play and you
ended up getting it.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
Absolutely. That is why this.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
Team has to manufacture wins. And it's never going to
be pretty regardless of the opponent. It's the sec So
you have to be able to lock in and load
and go out there and man up.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
And that's what this team was able to do. I
think that's kind of what this team is right now. Hard.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
I mean, you are where your feet are. And outside
of Sam Houston, every win that they've had been ugly.
There's been no blowouts like we thought, oh man, there's
gonna be some forty points sleepers.
Speaker 3 (03:08):
No, they are who they are and they're.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Gonna win ugly. And as long as it's a win,
it's not a problem. It's when you had that ill
next to your name when it becomes a problem.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
And for Texas to be able to go out and
do the things that they were able to do, as
we talked about, it was tough.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
It was tough. It was tough to watch it.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Wasn't esthetically pleasing, But at the end of the day,
it's that left column that you want to look at,
and that's where the WS are as opposed to that
right column.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
And now you live to fight another day.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
You're going to start Vegas this weekend. They're coming off
of a tough loss to Florida. They lose to Florida,
and Florida fires their coach. I'm still confused about that.
I'm as opposed as you are. But you know they've
been looking for an excuse. Yeah, they wanted a loss
and they didn't get it.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
And you know, I.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
Don't know, man, Billy Napier. I feel like he deserved
another year, but I guess he's in the same place
as a lot of the other coaches.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
That have lost their jobs recently. Yep.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
So we'll see what ends up happening as they go.
Texas will travel to Stark, Vegas. But finishing off that
game in Lexington, Kentucky was huge for the Texas Longhorns.
As they get the victory, they get a victory and
they fall in the in the polls. They go from
number twenty one to twenty two. No big deal. This
matters where you're at at the end of the year.
(04:35):
But here is coach Sark what his opening statement after
the victory.
Speaker 4 (04:39):
We gotta we got to quit the self inflicted wounds.
Speaker 5 (04:42):
And I know, you know, you guys see it like
when there's penalties and granted, you know, we we do
some things that are obviously very frustrating. You get to
hold the first play of overtime, you get a false
start in the fourth quarter when we're trying to put
the game away. You know, we catch a pass with
(05:03):
a minute to go and we go out of bounds
without getting the first down, or stay in bounds and
make them use the other time out. Like there's there's
little things that we're not doing offensively. We're we have
we misopen throws. Clearly, I'm not calling enough stuff for
our guys to feel good about what we're doing. But
at the end of the day, it's like we can
(05:26):
have high scoring games and I could.
Speaker 4 (05:28):
Air it out and lose.
Speaker 5 (05:30):
So if our style of game and our style of
play is we're gonna play hard nose football and we're
gonna play great on defense and great on special teams,
we need to be more efficient on offense with the
opportunities that we get and that's what we need to
do offensively, is we've got to minimize the self inflicted
wounds and become more efficient. And we just we weren't
efficient enough to know.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
If I told you that a team had the ball
for almost forty minutes in the ball game and they
threw they had total offense of two hundred and fifty well,
total offense of three hundred and ninety five yards, what
would be the first thing that came to mouth.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
How much did they win by? Exactly? They lost? They lost.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
They had the ball for almost forty minutes of the
ball game, they had three hundred and ninety five yards
of total offense, and they did not win the game.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
That's a testament to good defense inside the red zone.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
Because they moved the ball.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Yeah, it just when it came time to as my
grandpa would say, the cohone is cutting.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
Texas stood up. They did, and you start to look
at it. They were one of three in the red
zone or excuse me, yeah, one of three in the
red zone and they just couldn't finish it off. So
for Texas, he got out of there with the win.
Thank goodness, because now people, you know, people.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
Are always didn't it feel like a loss though one
hundred percent of what man like. There were two times
that wide receivers had the ball where they should have
caught the ball. And I'm not saying that there's no
fault of theirs the losing to almost losing that game,
but there were two balls that hit hands that would
(07:26):
have been first downs.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
That they really needed.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
There were four times that Arch had a wide open.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
Why I mean.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Mostly had a guy was wide open fifteen yards before
anybody touched him. Same thing with injuries. There was a
point where he was wide open fifteen yards in the
circumference around him, Arch missed him. They have got to
tighten up. They've got to tighten up. There's no other
way around it. Like we talk about this together, this kinship,
(08:04):
that understanding each other, this brotherhood. Be there for your brother,
make the completion for your brother, like they're gonna have
to do better job. And the offensive line with the penalties,
you know what, nobody was at fault. Nobody was without
fault in this game. Offensively, the offensive line play was bad,
(08:27):
quarterback play was bad, two drops on wide receivers that
were bad. Wingo gave up on an RPO play where
he act like, well, the ball not coming to me,
like everybody was at fault. So they got work to do.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
They definitely got work to do, and I know that
this team is gonna be back on the ground and getting.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
Right back after it. It's a tough, tough week.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
I mean, obviously we talked about it in the SEC
and you talked about it about the players. Well, the
players they took some ownership and a lot of this too,
but they also let you know, it's a team win
and it's a team loss.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
So we won as a team.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
And even with those numbers that we just talked about
and where those numbers actually come from, it's a little
bit different when you sit back and watch this team play.
Speaker 3 (09:17):
Now they get another chance. It's a new week.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
Coach Sarka have his media availability today press conference, which
you can hear right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred The Zone and always free on the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
We'll hear more about it. We're gonna hear from some
of the players.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
We'll also hear from Tommy Yarsh of Dallascowboys dot com.
The Cowboys with a huge victory over the Washington Commanders.
We've got so much going on, and oh yeah, the
two magical words in sports. Game seven happens tonight as
the Blue Jays force a Game seven against the Maritors.
Right here on the Morning Kickoff Victory Monday edition on
(09:57):
Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Welcome back to
the morning Kickoff right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred The Zone Victory Monday Edition. By the way, Texas
did win the ball game. And I know there's a
lot of doom in gloom when it comes to this
Texas football team, but the alternative is you could be.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
Looking at a loss right now.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
And I understand that the anger and the expectations coming
into this season and the fact that Texas could not
run the football, could not run the football at all.
But one thing that has been special it has been
the special teams play. Here in the last couple of weeks,
Ryan Niblett has done an unbelievable job in the return game,
(10:41):
and of course you get those big field goals by
Mason Shipley, you got the great punting.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
This has been.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
Something that has helped Texas along the way. And Coach
starts Start talked about the special teams play, well.
Speaker 5 (10:56):
It's been huge you know, there's a reason we went
and got Mason and Jack. I think Jack had six
punts inside the twenty, I mean, and what a massive punt.
They're late to pin them deep for us to get
some decent field position coming back out on Ryan's punt return.
So all the all phases of special teams, and you know,
Mason's field goals were all big. You know, the first
(11:18):
one I think is fifty two or something like that,
and then the other two that won at the end
of the game and then won in overtime. So hey,
we're trying to be the most complete team that we
can be, and and you always want all three phases
to be a well oiled machine right now, and we're
just not quite there yet on offense, but it's surely
good to know, Like, you know, when you can you
(11:38):
can play defense and play good on special teams, you're
always gonna have a chance. Now we need to we
need to get going offensively, and that's that's our task
and that's our job to get that done.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
Yeah, this week is gonna be a big week for
the Texas Longhorse because one thing's for sure, Mississippi State
does find a way to put up some point. Blake Shaping,
former Baylor quarterback, is now the quarterback for well, not now,
but he's been there. The quarterback for Mississippi State didn't
get a chance to play against Texas last year because
of an injury. They had a young quarterback that was playing.
(12:09):
Now they got Brendan Thompson on the wide receiver who
used to be a Texas longhorn as well. But the
main concern right now, and I want to do I
do want to touch on what coach Sharks said about
the punting game. Boommeister was outstanding. Eight punts for three
hundred and thirty six yards. He averaged forty two yards
per punt, and he was inside the twenty six times
(12:35):
six of those eight punts. I mean that is an
absolute weapon. And he had three punts of over fifty yards,
so he is he has been an asset and obviously
Mason Shipley what he was able to achieve is outstanding.
But everybody's talking about Arch again and how his play
and what the expectations are, and he was asked, what's
(12:57):
the level of concern when it comes to Archer's play.
Speaker 5 (13:00):
I think one we a need to play better up
front to protect him.
Speaker 4 (13:04):
You know, it's not fun.
Speaker 5 (13:05):
When you're at quarterback and you're getting hit, and it
was way too leaky for him, and in turn that
can create some uneasiness, you know, and when you have
opportunities to make throws, you don't make some, you know.
I do think there was a couple of critical passes
that he did make. The third down to conversion to
DeAndre Moore was a huge play for us. Again, that
(13:26):
played a DeAndre that we hit him out the back door.
But we've got to find ways to get him more completions.
And again that's our job as a staff to find
that comfort level for him. Because there was some really
good plays in there. I mean that the ball that
emmeted across the middle for an explosive. There's good things there.
But there's some layups that we got to hit for
him too, that he needs to hit. But we need
(13:48):
to find more of those opportunities for him.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
There's a lot, there's got to be some opportunities and
he's gonna be better.
Speaker 3 (13:54):
I have no problem.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
Well, I do have problem with the miss throws when
guys are wide open. But to Sark's part point, he
was under a lot of pressure and getting popped. I
mean they were in the backfield quite a bit. He
was sacked five times in this ball game, and some
of that could be I'm holding on to the ball
a little bit too longer too long. But you got
(14:19):
to make sure that you hit those wide open guys
on the crossing routes where they could be running an
extending drive. You did get some big plays when you
need on them at the end, but you know, the
game could be a lot different in certain situations if
they can execute. But again, if you can't run the ball,
that's a bigger problem.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
Yeah, my world's strongest take is going to be about
what we're talking about right now with this offense and
how is how is?
Speaker 3 (14:48):
I don't want to.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
Get too much into it, but it definitely can be changed.
That's it definitely can be changed, and it's not wholesale
changing in his delivery of that offense is simplifying. And
I know sometimes people say simplified it makes you think
(15:09):
dumby down somehow. No, I'm not saying that you dummy down.
I'm saying that you hang your hat on the things
that are the most explosive for you and use them.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
And that's what we'll go through in the world Stronger's
Tad Well.
Speaker 1 (15:26):
One of the things that Sark was asked about was
is he relying on his defense to get these wins?
Speaker 5 (15:32):
Well, I think at the end of the day, like
you play to the strengths of your team, and the
strength of our team or strengths of our team right
now is our defense and our special teams. You know, everybody,
every team around the country is different, okay, And you know,
if we won today forty three to thirty five, you
guys be asking me about our defense. Right Well, we're
(15:54):
fortunate enough that we're playing really good defense right now,
and that's a good place to start that you that
you can play good defense, we're playing good on special
teams and you can ride that.
Speaker 4 (16:04):
But you got it to do that. You got to.
Speaker 5 (16:06):
Play efficient offensive football. And we're not playing efficient enough.
And so we're gonna keep riding those guys because they
deserve it and they're doing it, and we're going to
continue to try to shrink the game and slow the
game down. But these guys running upwards in ninety plays,
sooner or later we're gonna, you know, the damn will break.
And so we've got to be more efficient offensively to
(16:27):
keep our defense off the field.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
Well, it's funny that you bring that up, because Colin
Simmons was one of the guys who played his behind off.
He had three sacks yesterday on Saturday, Anthony Hill Junior
had twelve total tackles, and Michael Taff had a career high,
tying a career high of ten total tackles. But Colin
Simmons let everybody know, we are a team. No matter
(16:51):
what Coach Starks said.
Speaker 6 (16:52):
I think he meant to say defense, special teams in
the offense. With a team, we a whole team. So
I mean it ain't just defense and special teams. His defense,
special teams in offense. We got the offensive back, we
got offense back, offense got our back, special teams got
both of our bets.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
So he let him know right off the rip, this
is a team effort. You can you can say, hey,
our defense is doing everything, but the offense has to
play well, special teams has to play well, and as
a defensive player, we got to hold what we're supposed
to do as well. So I love the energy, I
love the leadership. And he wasn't the only one that
(17:27):
was tired of the nonsense. Michael taff Is like, hey, guys,
we won the game, and these questions.
Speaker 3 (17:34):
Seem a little bit negative.
Speaker 7 (17:35):
I'm not gonna lie, guys to the offense. And I'll
say this, it's freaking hard to win in the SEC.
Go ask Georgia when they won the national championship, what
they did against Kentucky last year. When you know they
won thats championship, what they do against Kentucky last year.
It's hard to win thats CC. So we freaking won.
Let's put the smiles on our face. We won, and
(17:57):
the show goes on and we're dancing, and at the
end of the day, we control our destinies. So we're
gonna keep on pushing and we're gonna do it with
a smile on our face. And there's gonna be corrections.
And I trust my guys. I trusted my coaches, and
I'm freaking excited. So I want you all to put
some smiles on those face.
Speaker 1 (18:16):
Take that with you, Take that you yeah, yeah, Hey,
what do you say? Take that for data? You know
that win. That's a win right there.
Speaker 2 (18:23):
That's that's a true leader, right absolutely, that's the guy
that's not gonna let you create the narrative for you
for who they are.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
Yeah, he knows who they are. He knows that they struggle.
They know that they struggled.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
And to follow up what he was saying, last year,
Georgia went to Kentucky and playing that night game.
Speaker 3 (18:42):
The final score was thirteen to twelve.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
Yeah, So, as I was saying in the pregame show,
it don't matter what their record is. It's a night
game in Lexington, Kentucky, where Stoops is coaching for his life.
And they went out and played well. They made Texas struggle.
As I said, they held the ball for thirty nine
(19:06):
minutes in twenty three seconds the first quarter, they had
it for ten minutes, third and fourth quarter ten minutes,
and Texas found a way to get it done, pushed
it to overtime.
Speaker 3 (19:22):
And here's the victory.
Speaker 2 (19:23):
I didn't know mcgiver was on Texas football staff.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
Sometimes you gotta have fire, bubble gum to get it done.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
They had some bubble gum rappers and Bandais. Absolutely absolutely.
Speaker 1 (19:34):
And so for this team to find a way continually
find a way to win, let's give them some credit
for that, but we will they will be tested again
coming up this week when they go to Mississippi State,
because here's a team that lost a two point game
to Florida, which beat Texas. So now you gotta start playing. Okay,
(19:58):
go on the road again for one more week before
they get a chance to come back home. It's been
a rough one. It's been a rough one, but the
final one on the road before they play at home
on November the fourth.
Speaker 3 (20:11):
First, excuse me.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
When we come back, I can give my thoughts and
we're gonna also hear from Coach Sark on a couple
of other things that have been going on with this
football team. Right here on a big thory Monday, Folks
edition of the Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred The Zone. Coming up in the next segment, we're
(20:34):
gonna talk Major League Baseball because what we've seen over
the weekend is nothing short of amazing. We'll also have
Tommy Yarsh of Dallascowboys dot Com joining.
Speaker 3 (20:46):
Us at eight o'clock.
Speaker 1 (20:49):
Will also be ready for the presser today as coach
Sark has this media availability and you can hear it
all right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred Zone
and always free on the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (21:03):
Starting at eleven a m But right now I want to.
Speaker 1 (21:07):
Get into the conversation about the Texas Longhorn football team
and my thoughts from what I saw from the Horns.
One of the things that stood out to me was
the fight for this Texas defense, the way that this
defense was able to get out and make plays. You
look at the interception by Anthony Hill Junior getting out
into the flats and making that play. You got a
(21:29):
chance to see Jelani McDonald come up and make hit
after hit, Jalen Gilbo being able to make plays, and
of course Malik Muhammad being able to play outside. But
Michael Taff, the leader on the back end of this
football team, has done a really, really good job and
I expect this defense to continue to get better offensively.
(21:53):
Coach Shark was asked about what they were doing defensively, Kentucky,
that is what they were doing defensively to stop this
Texas offense.
Speaker 5 (22:04):
Well, you know, I think, hey, they got they got
really good coaches. And I have a ton of respect
for coach Stops. He's been doing it a long time.
Speaker 6 (22:11):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (22:12):
They they played good at the line of scrimmage. I
thought they played well in the secondary. I thought that
they hit some timely blitzes that that caused some issues
in the backfield and the run game and the past
game and got pressure on the quarterback.
Speaker 8 (22:25):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (22:25):
And they minimize the explosive plays, which is the way
they play. You know, they can start shrinking the shrinking
the field on you. So and we never were able
to get them out of that. We had opportunities to
do it. We didn't take advantage of it. And so,
but but a credit to Kentucky. They came to play
defensively tonight.
Speaker 4 (22:42):
They did a nice job.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
Hey, you know, there's a lot that is is unraveling,
as you would say, as some would say, with what's
going on with this team. But one thing is for
sure that these guys are going to go out and
they're gonna fight. They're to find a way to get
things done. It may not be pretty and it may
(23:03):
not look the way that we wanted to look, and
I get it, but there's so much that has happened
in this on this football team. You got an inexperienced
and shuffling offensive line.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
Cole Hudson was missed.
Speaker 1 (23:20):
Not taking anything away from Connor Robertson, but Cole Hudson
is missed. This is a guy that played a lot
of football as well. You start to look at the
wide receiving corps. We're just getting Mosley back DeAndre Moore
was out with injuries, and we haven't been consistent with
the passing game with the tight end position. Yes we've
run some screens and some back throws, but we're not
(23:44):
consistent at the tight end position.
Speaker 3 (23:48):
Getting them involved.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
The most importantly, Texas could not run the ball like
they did against Oklahoma, which changes how arch can drop back.
If there's no effectiveness in the run game, it's going
to be hard for an inexperience Still, quarterback who's getting
game reps is still having a tough enough time to
(24:12):
make those reads.
Speaker 3 (24:14):
No excuses.
Speaker 1 (24:15):
Texas didn't play well, Texas didn't do the things that
they needed to do. But the reality of it all
is they won the ball game, right.
Speaker 3 (24:24):
But that's that's exactly it.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
It is an excuse that there's such a thing as
having any excuse. Why is a quarterback play not up
the par Why is the offensive line play not solid?
Speaker 3 (24:39):
Why are the wide receivers don't.
Speaker 2 (24:41):
Have a level of continuity with the quarterback because they're
not getting enough reps Like there are reasons to say why.
Speaker 3 (24:48):
There's nothing wrong with.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
With with with with problems.
Speaker 3 (24:53):
It's the complaining about a problem is that's the problem.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
You don't find Texas complaining, right, it's the media that's
doing all the complaining and doing all of.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
What was me. You hear what Taff said.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
He said, we won, right, we're dancing right. It's hard
to win in the SEC.
Speaker 3 (25:14):
So I don't want us to gloss over the.
Speaker 2 (25:17):
Fact that Texas is a young team, the young a quarterback,
the young and wide receivers. They got a misfit bag
of toys as an offensive line. They don't really use
the tight ends the way they should be. Yeah, I
said it, you have injuries. You got a six seven,
(25:38):
two hundred and fifty five found tight end that's.
Speaker 3 (25:41):
Sitting on the bench. Washington came out, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
He dropped one, but that don't mean you don't go
back to him the rest of the game.
Speaker 4 (25:52):
He caught one right.
Speaker 2 (25:53):
Before that for twelve yards. Yep, put the man. I'm
hard prefacing the fact that my world's strongest take is
going to be the cure.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
And we'll hold on to it, hold on.
Speaker 4 (26:10):
And stay out the way.
Speaker 3 (26:11):
Yes, sit back, sit back, I brought you in, homie,
Marcus Man brought.
Speaker 4 (26:16):
You in for a little bit. I ain't know you
gonna take over.
Speaker 3 (26:19):
I ain't know you're gonna take over.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
But one of the things that continues to be talked
about is arch in the fact that he struggled, and
Coach Sark was asked about his mentality after struggling tonight.
Speaker 3 (26:31):
Where is he gonna be after this?
Speaker 5 (26:33):
Well, you know, I think he's he's a competitor, like
like all those guys in that locker room, and he
wants to do well. And he's a great team Guy's
a great teammate, and he sees how well the defense
is playing and he wants to play well for those
guys too. So the competitor in him, you know, he's
he's grinding it out. You know, he's bleeding everything's going on.
(26:55):
In my opinion, I kind of thought he got a
targeting shot there at the end. But he's running the ball,
he's fighting, and he'll he'll play better. But but as
I said, we need to be better around him. We
need to be better as coaches, and he needs to
be better too. Right, we all have to be better offensively,
and so you got to try to get that done,
and that's got to get.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
Done quickly well.
Speaker 1 (27:13):
Coach Sark mentioned that he was going to do everything
he possibly could to call better plays, to scheme things
up a little bit better. We'll see what that what
that looks like coming in the coming weeks. But one
of the things that continues to plague this team is
the hit or the miss in the running game.
Speaker 3 (27:33):
And how do you get this back consistently?
Speaker 5 (27:36):
Yeah, I mean, I think that's that's not uncommon in
the run game.
Speaker 4 (27:40):
You know, you're you're gonna have some of that.
Speaker 5 (27:41):
I I'd love to get five yards every time we
ran the ball, right, you know, we were our inability
to create any explosive runs tonight, I think showed up
and I thought we had some opportunities to do it.
I got to look at the tape, so that that
was one, you know, But but two, it's like, we
have to be able to get ourselves out of third
(28:03):
and long. And when you play in third and long,
then you lose the rhythm of the game and the
flow of the game. And so to help the run game,
we gotta we got to get the completions in the
past game too, or they're going to continue to hunker
down on the run game, which I thought, again, Kentucky
did a good job of that tonight. I thought we
missed some opportunities in the run game to maybe be
(28:23):
a little bit better. And again, we we as a staff,
have got to make sure that we're putting our players
in position to have success. And again I have to
evaluate the tape to make sure that those opportunities were there.
But again, consistency in the run game. Efficiency in the
run game is critical, and you know we weren't efficient
(28:44):
enough tonight in that aspect of the offense either.
Speaker 3 (28:47):
There you go.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
They got to get better all the way around on
the offensive side of the ball. Does that start this week?
Does that start this week? It better because I'm telling
you right now, Mississippi State is gonna put up points
at some point because the defense for Texas has been
playing at an elite level. So we'll see what ends
up happening. But it's important that this offense does their part.
(29:10):
Coming up next show, Hey O tany Oh, my goodness,
don't say it ain't so what you did to him?
Right here on in the morning kickoff on Sports Radio
AM thirteen hundred The Zone, Coming up at the top
of the hour, we'll talk Dallas Cowboys as the Dallas
Cowboys handled their business yesterday at home.
Speaker 3 (29:31):
Dak Prescott's record.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
In the NFC East at home is one that we
will talk talk about with Tommy Yarish of Dallascowboys dot Com.
But right now, I want to talk major League baseball.
Major League baseball is a game that takes it to
a whole other level. And we've seen special players in
(29:55):
our time. Barry Bonds, Mark McGuire, Sammy so so, Ken,
Griffy Junior, Ricky Henderson, Hank Aaron, the list goes on
and on, Willie Mays. But what we are watching right
now is something that will be talked about forever. And
(30:17):
this person just seems to be one of one, and
that is Showy Otani to this series.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
As Terario strikes out at LCS in Game four of
the LCSA that goes, O.
Speaker 9 (30:31):
Toddy, show hey, lighting up the highlights already and.
Speaker 3 (30:38):
A swing at a miss oh TONI dials for the
browers and a swing out of miss oh my goodness, Showy,
O Toddy? WHOA Now is it a swing?
Speaker 9 (30:53):
It is Tony chance to come right back on the
Valley counts through five inns now one and two on Toray,
had a swing out a mess.
Speaker 3 (31:04):
Oh Tony, Tony.
Speaker 1 (31:07):
Tony again show hal Tany in the final game of
a sweep over the Milwaukee Brewers, strikes out ten, ten
pitcher to ten batters and hits three home runs to
become the MVP of the nl CS.
Speaker 2 (31:29):
Dude is a cheat code. He is like a created
player on the video game Yep. They maxed him out
in height at seven feet.
Speaker 3 (31:36):
They gave him all the strength, they gave him all
the Dion speed.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
He's got ninety nine speed, ninety nine strength size, Like.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
Where is the weakness? Well, remember he was struggling. He
was struggling. He came out on the field, took baton practice.
I told y'all, he doesn't normally take baton practice on
the field. He came out to the field and did
to get some work in, and it just so happened
on the day that he's pitching, which is longest outing
of the year. He goes out there, strikes out ten
(32:09):
and had three home runs in a in a deciding game.
Mookie Betts said, we are the Bulls and he's Michael
Jordan and Mookie Betts is a Jordan guy. He wears
Jordan's when he plays. He said, we are like the bulls,
and he is Michael Jordans. He is that type of player.
(32:31):
And Mookie's no slouch. No, Mookie is a gold gloves shortstop.
He was an outfielder this game.
Speaker 4 (32:39):
He was, he was.
Speaker 3 (32:40):
He was beyond impressive.
Speaker 10 (32:41):
He was.
Speaker 3 (32:42):
He was Jordan Like in this game he was. But
the game before he hit one that still hadn't landed. Yeah,
he got.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
How many people you see hit the ball out of
the stadium. When was the last time you saw a
ball go out of a park?
Speaker 3 (32:58):
It was?
Speaker 1 (32:58):
It was there, it was in La and it was
Albert Pooles, Albert Poohos had won out of there, good lord,
way up out of there.
Speaker 2 (33:08):
I just can't understand the kind of power that he's
generating off that bat. They need to they need to
really do it, like one of those sports science things
to determine.
Speaker 1 (33:19):
Somebody said that they would be checking his bat right now.
They will be checking it. They think he's he's court.
Speaker 3 (33:25):
No I'm not.
Speaker 1 (33:26):
And I want to give you another part of this,
and I'm sure Craig White, the Voice of the Texas
long Horns, which you can hear all Texas long Horns
games right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred to
zone as we are your home for all Texas sports.
Speaker 3 (33:40):
I want you to hear this.
Speaker 1 (33:43):
The La Dodgers invested heavily in show hal Tany. This
came from clutch points seven hundred million dollars in ten years.
Speaker 3 (33:53):
That investment has already paid off.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
According to a former ESPN reporter, June Lee, the Dodgers
already made the seven hundred million dollars back from show
Hayes's first year with the team, ticket sales, merchandisings, marketing
deals overseas, you name it. The Dodgers have got it.
When you have the top player playing in the top market,
(34:16):
everyone gets paid top dollar players happy, ownership is happy,
and the league is happy. They're paying him seventy million
over ten years. I mean seven hundred million over ten years.
They made seven hundred million in year number one. Think
about that and what he's been able to do the
(34:37):
next nine years. Sarah Lang, who Slass Crazy Slangs on
Sports her recap of sho hail Tani's night. He's the
first leadoff homer, first lead off home run, by a
pitcher in major league history. It was the first postseason
multi homer game by a pitcher, first game in major
(34:59):
league history with three homers and ten strikeouts by the
same guy, first player with two one hundred and sixteen
plus mile hour home runs under the stat Cast era,
and the first player with two career games of two
home runs or more with ten strikeouts or more.
Speaker 3 (35:21):
That's what I was saying about the big dumper, but
he just multiplied it.
Speaker 1 (35:25):
Yeah, he's crazy, ridiculous what we've seen from show hal
Tani and the pitches too.
Speaker 3 (35:32):
Yeah, and be able to do first at both Yeah,
never been done before in Major League Baseball. Only one
person that's been able to do it, and his name
is Shoe hal Tani. Good Lord, Almighty, I'd be ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (35:46):
I'd be remorseful if I didn't bring up the fact
that Vladimir Guerrero Junior is now forcing a game seven
after his team's performance, the Blue Jays performance. Yes, Vladimir
Guerrero Junr. Is another guy that's putting up ridiculous numbers
in the postseason, and he continues to be talked about
(36:09):
as putting up one of the greatest postseasons in Major
League history. He's crushing the ball. He is absolutely crushing
the ball, and every time he comes up, everybody gets
a little nervous. They gotta start walking him if they
want to win. Tonight you had a warm walk and Vlattie,
you have to because he's in fuego, as they like
(36:32):
to say. Coming up next, we've got our guy, Tommy
Yarsh of Dallascowboys dot Com talking about a huge, huge
win from the Dallas Cowboys yesterday and now CD's back,
so this team looks a lot different. Right here on
the Morning Kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
Burning kickoff right here on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
(36:55):
The Zone.
Speaker 3 (36:56):
It's a big three Monday.
Speaker 1 (36:57):
Edition of the Morning Kickoff right here on Sports Radio
thirteen hundred to Zone. As the Texas Longhorns defeated the
Kentucky Wildcats in overtime sixteen to thirteen, we got a
chance to listen to some of the players and coach
Shark as they have moved on and now are have
their sights set on Mississippi State three point fifteen kickoff
(37:18):
on the SEC Network on Saturday, and of course it's
a victory money Monday when it comes to the Dallas Cowboys.
As the Dallas Cowboys handled their business at home forty
four to twenty two over a banged up Washington Commander's team,
and the Dallas Cowboys got all of their key personnel back.
(37:39):
And let's talk to our guy, Tommy Yarish of Dallascowboys
dot com. You can follow them at Tommy Underscore, Yars
and Tommy. The Cowboys go out and perform at an
elite level. Dak Prescott still playing at a high level.
But most importantly, you got a chance to have CD Lamb,
George Pickens and Dak Press got all together on the
(38:03):
field again.
Speaker 8 (38:05):
Yeah, absolutely, guys. And you know, I think we knew
what this Cowboys offense was going to be when Ceedee
Lamb and Cavante Turpin, Tyler.
Speaker 3 (38:13):
Booker came back.
Speaker 8 (38:14):
It was you know, it was already good. It was
going to be taken to another level. I really think
what stood out to me about this game, and I've
been saying it for weeks, is the Cowboys don't necessarily
need a top ten defense to be able to win games.
They just need to be average and get a couple
of stops, and you see what happens when they are
able to get the ball a couple more times in
(38:35):
the offense's hands and forcing three and outs and force
some punts. So you know, going forward, this is a
group that if I think they changed a lot yesterday
with some coverage stuff, I think they blitzed a little
bit more than they have and in games past and
overall it was one of their better showings of the year. Sure,
(38:55):
Washington is shorthanded, very shorthanded. Jaden Daniels got hurt. You
take wins where you can get him.
Speaker 2 (39:01):
In this league, everybody is always on this making qualifiers
and excuses. When the Cowboys was injured, nobody said, oh,
well they missing cd lamb oh.
Speaker 3 (39:13):
But like let another team, let another team that.
Speaker 2 (39:17):
Luke missed a couple of stars on their team, and
there's always these qualifiers. Do you think that that's something
that the Cowboys are going to continue to face or
are we going to.
Speaker 3 (39:27):
Get over this at some point?
Speaker 10 (39:30):
Well?
Speaker 8 (39:30):
I think in the NFL, nobody feels sorry for you
when you're banged up, right, it's a week to week week.
There's so much parody in it, and you're never going
to be fully healthy. Some teams just have worse injury
luck than others, and so regardless of how banged up
you are, you've got to put your best foot forward
on Sunday and try to win the game. And that's
what Pallas did in the absence of Ceedee Lamb and
(39:53):
Tyler Booker and Cavante Turpin. Well, not last week against Carolina,
but they've been able to win game shorthanded. It's just
been a question of, Okay, can the defense get a
stop because opposing offenses are just marching down the field
against him and putting up thirty forty points. You know,
can this defense get a couple of stops and allow
(40:14):
Dak Prescott, who is playing better, you know, probably his
best football in his career, get him the ball back.
And that's what the Cowboys were able to do on Sunday,
and that's why they were able to win big.
Speaker 1 (40:24):
You talked about what Dak Prescott has been able to do.
Sixteen touchdowns on the year, three interceptions total in the
game against the Washington Commanders complete, completed seventy percent of
his passes, and had a QBR of his rating was
one thirty point four. But I want to go back
to the defensive side of the ball, and you start
(40:45):
to think about what is the situation with the quote
unquote concussion of Trayvon Diggs, and nobody is even really
talking about that aspect of what really happened.
Speaker 8 (41:00):
Yeah, Terry Jones said yesterday that Trayvon Diggs told him
what had happened and didn't share with reporters what it
was that he said a couple of cryptic quotes there too,
I don't remember off the top of my head, but
go back and look at what he said. I think
there might be a level of disappointment here there. But regardless,
they're expecting Trayvon Diggs to be back on the field
(41:21):
pretty soon here, more than likely next Sunday, so they
could could use him in Denver, especially if they're going
to do what they did yesterday and play a little
bit more man coverage. So it has not been a
great year for Trayvon Diggs. It's been up and down,
and he hasn't gotten an interception yet and I don't
think he's even broken up the pass yet and then
this concussion comes out of the blue too, So it's
(41:44):
been tough sledding. But the coupleys are certainly hoping he
can come back and help the defense out some more.
Speaker 3 (41:49):
He's definitely got a touchdown throwing on him.
Speaker 2 (41:53):
What is the Cowboys playing the course of action with
what's going on with why receiver position?
Speaker 3 (42:01):
Are they going to re sign Pickens.
Speaker 2 (42:03):
Now while he can possibly be a little bit inexpensive?
Speaker 3 (42:08):
Are they going to go into next season like they did.
Speaker 2 (42:11):
In previous seasons and try to trade him at the
trade deadline to upgrade draft picks for next season.
Speaker 8 (42:21):
I don't think they're going to trade him Mark, But
at the same time, you got to remember this is
a two way street, right, So the Cowboys, even if
they wanted to sign George Pickens, George Dickens has to
be willing to sign with the Cowboys. And when he's
playing the way he's playing, he can really make himself
a lot of money here. And if he's able to
stretch this out until the end of the year, continue
playing well, then he's going to be in the market
(42:43):
for a huge, huge, huge pay raise. So if I'm
George Pickens, I'm saying, hey, I want to wait till
the end of the year and go from there, which
is what he said when they traded him, and what
the Cowboys said when they traded for him. So I
think this is going to be one that unless something
changes or Pickens is happy with the ice that the
Cowboys show him. I think this will be done after
the year.
Speaker 1 (43:03):
And he has David Mugiletta as his agent, and you
already know Jerry and them don't talk to agents.
Speaker 3 (43:09):
Just kidding.
Speaker 1 (43:11):
We're talking to Tommy Yars Dallas Cowboys dot com. You
can follow them at Underscore Tommy at Tommy Underscore Yards.
Speaker 3 (43:19):
I wanted to ask you to about this defense.
Speaker 1 (43:22):
Obviously, there were some big time plays that were made
in this ballgame. Dron Bland gets an pick six, Shamir
James continues to play at a very very high level.
Demarvin Overshown is getting closer to what do you think
the expectations are going to be when he returns.
Speaker 8 (43:41):
Well, they're certainly hoping that he can bring some juice
to this defense. They're expecting to open his window either
this week or next. It's the twenty one day return
to practice window, where at the end of twenty one
days he either has to be activated or placed on
season ending. I are so they'll probably activate his window
here soon. Let it stretch to the full twenty one
days signing to the active roster and then have him
(44:02):
back and you know, three or so weeks after the
window is open, and yeah, of course, I mean, you know,
these linebackers for the Cowboys have not played very well,
and even Sherman James, you know, he's probably the hardest hitter,
but he's still kind of misses some things here and
there and has a little off kilter at times, but
he's still played really well and they're trusting him. He
(44:23):
started over Jack Stanboline yesterday he was available for Dallas,
and yeah, I think that says a lot about how
they see him. And you know, you give credit to
Matt Iberfluss. The one thing he's always done is be
able to develop linebackers, and so this is a guy
that he's kind of putting his mind's touch on and
is playing really well. And then, of course, you know,
the hope with tomorrow round overshown as he comes in
(44:44):
and does what he was doing last year before he
got hurt and be a dynamic player.
Speaker 3 (44:48):
And go back on to the offensive side of the ball.
Speaker 1 (44:50):
I thought for sure that we were finally going to
get a chance to see the goodness in Jake Ferguson.
He continues to be Dak's go to guy with those
wide receivers being as open as they are and making
those plays. I know that Jake Ferguson is really enjoying
the fact that the Dallas Cowboys have all those weapons
(45:12):
and he gets to reward himself with that.
Speaker 8 (45:16):
Oh yeah, absolutely. And you know, last year was really
tough here for Jake Ferguson. He doesn't have Dak Prescott
for a majority of the year. He's dealing with the
concussion and the other score a touchdown. It just wasn't
It was tough sletting and there was frustration there. And
you know this offseason they show their trust in him,
sign to an extension and now you're seeing him root
the benefits of having, like you said, Mike two number
(45:37):
one wide receivers and George Pickens and Ceedee Lamb and
he and Dak Prescott have always had a good connection
and it's only going to continue to grow in this
offense because if Jake Ferguson is a third read more
often than not, he's probably going to be open. And
they love the play action boot stuff where they can
just get him quick, easy yards to keep the offense
(45:58):
on schedule. He does it really well, just chipping at
the line of scrimmage and then flying out through the
flat and getting open. Does it sometimes go for one
or two yards, Yeah, sure, but there are somewhere he
goes for four or five or six. And when you're
doing that on first down, second down, it's helping you
march down the field a'llbeit slowly, so that it can
open things up for your play makers Lake City Land
(46:19):
and George Pickens. So Brian shott Humer has done a
really good job of utilizing all the weapons that he's
got to their strengths, and he's having a heck of
a time as a play caller.
Speaker 2 (46:29):
In the absence of Digs not playing, Cowboys came out
with a young player out at corner on the other side,
played pretty good, pretty decent.
Speaker 4 (46:43):
Traquez Bridges.
Speaker 3 (46:44):
Bridges, Yeah, yeah, no.
Speaker 8 (46:46):
This is a guy that they picked off off the
labor wire. He was a seventh round pick this past
year out of Florida and was just kind of always
hanging around, hanging around, hanging around. And now Terry Ron
Diggs gets you know, and all of a sudden, all right,
you know, this is this is your time. To shine
Bud and he's a longer corner, taller Matt Eberflus loves
(47:09):
those big, tall, long arm corners, and the Cowboys have
him in recent history too. And sure he didn't play perfect,
but neither did the Commander's offense, and so that certainly helped.
But overall a solid first outing for two.
Speaker 3 (47:22):
Queen's wanted to before.
Speaker 1 (47:23):
We let you go, Tommy, I wanted to talk a
little bit more about Dak Prescott what he's been able
to do over the last four games. He's got a
bunch of touchdowns thirteen to be exact, and no interceptions,
very very consistent in his last four games.
Speaker 8 (47:41):
Yeah, there's like I said earlier, there is nobody playing
at a higher level in a quarterback position than Dak
Prescott right now. In my opinion, he has dialed in
as dialed in gets you know, thirteen touchdowns, zero picks
and four games. He was talking about yesterday somebody asked him,
are you proud of the thirteen touchdowns and the no interceptions?
He kind of tried to give a political answer and
(48:02):
then he was like, actually, no interceptions, that'll probably be
the one. And so Dallas has done a good job
the last four games, they've won the turnover battle in
all four games, and that's been a point of emphasis.
But you can win the turnover battle, but if your
defense continues to give up these long drives and points,
then it's going to be hard to win. Even with that,
(48:24):
every football coach, regardless of the level, tells you that
the turnover battle is one of the most important things
inside the margins that helps you win games. And so
I think Dak Prescott staying turnover free has been a
big reason why this offense has been so successful. And
then obviously in the thirteen touchdowns, he's hard to stop
right now, and it's really fun to watch as a
(48:44):
fan of football. High quarterback play, high level quarterback play,
and you're seeing why they paid him the money they
paid him.
Speaker 3 (48:51):
Love it, love it, love it as always.
Speaker 1 (48:53):
Man, We appreciate you taking the time this morning to
get up with us, especially on a victory Monday.
Speaker 3 (48:59):
We had a lot to come right there.
Speaker 1 (49:01):
Tommy Yarsh of Dallascowboys dot com make sure you follow
them at Tommy underscore Yars on social media.
Speaker 8 (49:08):
Thanks Bud, all right, I appreciate you guys.
Speaker 3 (49:11):
Have a good one.
Speaker 1 (49:11):
No problem you have a good one too. When we
come back, we're gonna hear more from the NFL. What
a day in the NFL, come from behind victories, blowouts
and guess what it's Mondays with Mike McDaniel right here
on the morning kickoff on sports.
Speaker 3 (49:29):
Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
Speaker 1 (49:33):
Great stuff by Tommy Yarsh of Dallascowboys dot com. Make
sure you give him a follow at Tommy Underscore Yars.
Don't forget Today starting at eleven o'clock, myself, Craig Way,
and Camp Parker will be at the stadium for our
weekly conversation with Coach Sark. Media availability and that will
(49:54):
start at eleven o'clock and Coach Sark will take the
microphone at eleven thirty. All things can be heard right
here on your home for Texas Football with the voice
Craig Way, the Voice of Texas Football.
Speaker 3 (50:08):
And also you can listen to the Craig.
Speaker 1 (50:09):
Way Show this afternoon and you'll hear a lot more
of Coach Sharks media availability on the Craig Wait Show
starting at two o'clock. But the NFL continues to give
to us, and what I mean by that is a
lot of turmoil and a lot of happiness. Last night
or yesterday afternoon, the New York Giants blew a lead
(50:33):
against the Denver Broncos. Denver Broncos come back and score
thirty three points in the fourth quarter to get the victory.
You start to look around and you're like, what and
the heck is happening? I see that Indianapolis is real.
They go out and they beat the LA Chargers thirty
eight to twenty four. Can we start talking about Jonathan
(50:56):
Taylor again? Can we please start talking about him again?
He keeps scoring touchdown adown.
Speaker 2 (51:01):
I thought he was washed. I want to apologize. You
would have traded him right, Well, I wouldn't have got
him in the first place. And I actually actually picked
I actually picked the running back for the Seattle Seahawks
over picking him.
Speaker 3 (51:18):
Yep, because I thought he was washed. He's not washed,
I think so. I think that's safe. The second What
a horrible decision. Yeah?
Speaker 2 (51:28):
Yeah, I got a guy that gave me four point
eight points bet to hope to give you something tonight.
I need him, Yeah, I need him to step up
and give me a minimum of fifteen.
Speaker 3 (51:38):
Yep. I'm with you. I have him.
Speaker 1 (51:39):
I have him on one of my teams otherwise I
got to hear it. Yea, you got Philadelphia, they look better.
They threw the ball jail A hurt through for three
hundred and twenty six yards and they win over Minnesota
twenty eight to twenty two. You also all look across
and as I said, Jackson Dark look good for for
(52:00):
the Giants, but they end up losing that game.
Speaker 3 (52:04):
But the story of the day is the Miami Dolphin.
Speaker 1 (52:10):
Losing to the Cleveland Browns thirty one to six. Dylan
Gabriel through for one hundred and sixteen yards in that
ball game. You heard me correctly, one hundred and sixteen
yards passing in an NFL game, and he was the
(52:32):
highest passer in that game because to attack of Ala
twelve of twenty three with three interceptions, and now fans
are really really worried about him after what I still
don't understand what he said.
Speaker 10 (52:50):
Yeah, definitely not happy, not proud of where I'm at
with my play, with how I've gone about things this year.
I know I got to be a lot better, and
I've been better for for the Miami Dolphins years past,
but this isn't years past. This is this year, right,
And uh just trying to maneuver everything and trying to
(53:15):
trying to, you know, build a collection of guys to
to kind of bring along with me. And I got
to be able to kind of be able to multitask,
if that makes sense, be able to do that, and
while doing that kind of continue to continue to get
the whatever it was last year and the years prior
(53:35):
for myself.
Speaker 3 (53:36):
To No, it don't make sense. It don't make sense.
Speaker 2 (53:39):
You know what, I thought it was the vaate pan
over there in Miami. I thought it was Josh McDaniels.
Only Mike McDaniels. I thought it was his vaate pan.
Apparently it's not. It's in the water there. No, it's
in He's been concussed for quite some time. Don't forget
(53:59):
Tua is king of concussions right now.
Speaker 1 (54:03):
He did not want to wear that. He did not
want to wear that bubble helmet. But the Kazoo one
he didn't want to. Marvin the Martian he needs.
Speaker 3 (54:12):
That, he needs that, he needs that. But it's not over.
You still got Mike McDaniel who had to.
Speaker 4 (54:18):
Talk after the game, and they are one and six.
Speaker 11 (54:22):
Mike McDaniel, I gotta do a better job of uh,
uh of saying that clearly because it you know, in
game we we have to find it a composure.
Speaker 3 (54:34):
But realistically, uh, you know, you do hard truth in
this league.
Speaker 12 (54:39):
You are always held accountable for your ultimate performance, and
you coach through tape. So I have had nor will
have no problem, you know, telling the truth of the
of the tape, and and you have to.
Speaker 9 (54:58):
Either you.
Speaker 3 (55:00):
You accept it and.
Speaker 12 (55:03):
And rise to the challenge and correct those things, or
you're subject to the same exact types of failures that
I know that the guys are tying they didn't do it.
Speaker 3 (55:20):
Uh, and it's all of them. He was not he
was not happy.
Speaker 1 (55:25):
I'm happy wow, And I still am incoherent what he
thinks that he is saying.
Speaker 2 (55:33):
You know what, I'm gonna translate for him. I know
stupid when I hear it. I'm a stupid translator.
Speaker 10 (55:39):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (55:40):
He said that he is aware that he has to
live up to the standards of reading.
Speaker 2 (55:49):
The tape, but he hasn't done it. He has not
told Tua listen, I'm looking at the film, is you.
Speaker 7 (56:01):
He is?
Speaker 2 (56:02):
He's refusing to self incriminate. He's the one that lobby Patua.
He's the one that got we need him.
Speaker 3 (56:13):
He is our offense.
Speaker 1 (56:15):
You remember, Yeah, that self incrimination is now maximized.
Speaker 3 (56:20):
Yeah, because he's seen it. Everybody knows.
Speaker 1 (56:22):
Everybody's seen it for a while now. So him not
evaluating is why he is going to be looking You.
Speaker 3 (56:29):
Get circle, gets the square. He refuses to self incriminate.
Speaker 1 (56:34):
He is going to be working as an offensive coordinator
somewhere else because his time as.
Speaker 3 (56:40):
A head coach just on.
Speaker 1 (56:43):
Because people always talk about the presence, right, you have
to be able to present well, he's not presenting well. No,
And just like being the president of the United States,
if you're a head coach and your team is not winning.
Speaker 3 (57:00):
You age back, you age and you look terrible.
Speaker 1 (57:04):
He looked like a homeless person, the drug lord that
knows that his time is almost up.
Speaker 3 (57:10):
Like people, he can't go nowhere.
Speaker 1 (57:12):
People watching him, He's like, I'm undercover, did not, You're
you're narked.
Speaker 2 (57:18):
He he's trying to hide behind those Tony Stark glasses
and a hoodie, and everybody's.
Speaker 3 (57:24):
Like, hey, ain't that Josh mcdan. Well, they won't take us,
Josh will take us all. Mike, Yeah, he wished he
was Josh. Wish he was Josh McDade, he wish he was.
Speaker 2 (57:35):
Oh it's horrible, man, Yeah, to see him in capri
pants and gosh, like, come.
Speaker 3 (57:41):
On man, you don't do that as a head coach.
Speaker 1 (57:43):
Speaking of those capri pants, I saw another person wearing
them yesterday and the coach Raheem Morris, Oh come on man,
that's why. That's why they lost to the forty nine
ers last night. It wasn't be John's fault. It was
the coach's fault because he decided he wanted to wear
capri pants on the sideline and brothers don't look good
and capreci.
Speaker 3 (58:03):
Nobody, nobody except women look good.
Speaker 1 (58:06):
And thank you, thank you, and he tried to make
that happen. But yeah, Mike McDaniel to Attackablelow. I feel
bad for Quinn. Quinn got in the game last to get.
Speaker 2 (58:18):
Outs off on him. Well, I think it's contagious.
Speaker 7 (58:22):
It might be.
Speaker 1 (58:23):
It might be they've been coughing a lot around there,
so I don't know what's going on. But yeah, it's
a bad, bad look when you start, Quinn, it's uh,
it's got to make some changes, got to make some changes.
Speaker 4 (58:40):
It's a wreck.
Speaker 3 (58:40):
It's like a soap opera.
Speaker 1 (58:42):
It definitely is well breaking news to us being benched
Quinn yours was no that was last night, just kidding.
Coming up next, we got the world's strongest man bringing
you his World's Strongest take right here on the morning
kickoff Victory Monday. Addition on Sport It's Radio Am thirteen
hundred is all that be drop.
Speaker 3 (59:03):
It can only mean one thing. W W Hall of
Famer and World's Strongest Men.
Speaker 1 (59:08):
Deep Mark Henry brings you his World's Strongest tape.
Speaker 3 (59:13):
Take it away, big fellow Harns. What's up man?
Speaker 2 (59:16):
You know the time and there it's time for the
World's Strongest tape by the World's Strongest Man.
Speaker 3 (59:24):
My guess back then they didn't know me, but now
I'm hot they are. Well, it's Victory Monday and the Texas.
Speaker 2 (59:37):
Longhorns escaped pain, hurt and torment and the season being
put on ice.
Speaker 3 (59:49):
But we got to win. So why am I.
Speaker 2 (59:55):
Here with the cure when apparently we're not seen? Well, guys,
I want to start with our quarterback position. Everybody is
down on our quarterback. Young arch.
Speaker 3 (01:00:17):
Arch Manning's numbers are better than Cop McCoy's first six starts.
Speaker 2 (01:00:25):
They're better than Vince Young's first six starts, but really
who Arch could be? And the cure is this, He
needs to be more Cam Newton. He needs to be
similar to Vince Young in his second year. He needs
(01:00:48):
to be like Tim Tebow. And in order for that
to happen, they're gonna have to run a little bit
more pistol. They're gonna have to run three tight ends.
Sometimes they're gonna have to make misdirection plays with the intent.
Speaker 3 (01:01:08):
On running the ball first, running the ball with Arch.
Speaker 2 (01:01:14):
To free up the run for Quintavian Watson and the
other backs in that room.
Speaker 3 (01:01:24):
And you say, Mark, but.
Speaker 2 (01:01:26):
If you put Arch in a situation where he's running
the ball, you're gonna put him in harm's way.
Speaker 3 (01:01:33):
Yeah, yeah, I am. Because it's team big boy football.
Speaker 2 (01:01:38):
If you don't want to play team sports, then be
an Olympian and go find an individual sport and then
you play that well. Tim Tebow put it on the line,
Vince Young put it on the line. Cam Newton put
it on the line. Y'all want to know something about
all three of those quarterbacks. They all want championships. You
(01:02:03):
have got to use the talent.
Speaker 3 (01:02:06):
I would be.
Speaker 2 (01:02:07):
I think I'm correct when I say that Arch is
just as fast as Vince cam and definitely t bow
maybe faster.
Speaker 3 (01:02:19):
He's tough. You see him get hit in the face
last week and this week.
Speaker 2 (01:02:25):
He got hit, got right back up, dust himself off
and looked at the defense.
Speaker 3 (01:02:30):
He's tough.
Speaker 2 (01:02:34):
Three tight ends punch of people in the face is
gonna wear the opposing defense down. When you get him
worn down, you know what happens in the second half
explosive plays.
Speaker 3 (01:02:47):
What say you?
Speaker 1 (01:02:50):
I don't know how I feel about that. To be
quite honest with you, I believe that this team needs
to establish it up front before anything else. You know,
we can always point at Arch and say that this,
that and the other. But if he doesn't have time,
and he doesn't have protection, and there's no resemblance of
(01:03:10):
a running game, it is tough for anybody to drop
back every single play to try to make something happen.
The problem is you can't miss open guys.
Speaker 3 (01:03:22):
That was the problem.
Speaker 1 (01:03:24):
If he hits those guys in stride, it's a totally
different conversation. It's a totally different mindset that the extend
drives that keeps the ball in the Texas Longhorns hands
and we're not losing it. It's those wide open, nobody
around you throws that has people frustrated because you can't
(01:03:46):
miss those.
Speaker 3 (01:03:47):
Can he build to that later on.
Speaker 2 (01:03:49):
He's a young quarterback, and when you're in a pistol,
you don't have to drop back. You're already back and
you're attacking the offensive line.
Speaker 3 (01:03:57):
You're forcing your offensive line, and hey, you.
Speaker 2 (01:04:00):
Have a job to do, and that's go straight. Yep,
you know who you're blocking. You're blocked. If I say right,
you shaved right. If I say left, you shaved left.
The misdirection comes when you fake the run and then
you roll out. You got draggers coming across to draw linebackers.
(01:04:22):
In safeties, it puts you one on one with one
guy to beat. A lot of times you leave the
guy on the end, don't block him. It's your job
to beat that first guy. How many times we see
arts just just beat the first guy? He almost every
time because this offensive line is not great and he
(01:04:45):
has to get away and people are not giving him
credit for his athletic abilities.
Speaker 3 (01:04:52):
I watch a guy that's playing in the spread, playing
in a pass.
Speaker 2 (01:05:00):
I've seen offense that should be running the ball, running
waggle passes and sprint options and RPOs.
Speaker 3 (01:05:07):
He don't call the plays though.
Speaker 2 (01:05:08):
Man, I'm talking to you, and I'm talking to everybody listening,
because they listen. We number one, I dig it. So
that's what the point is, Harde. They're not doing what's
good for the team. Because they're not doing what's good
(01:05:29):
for Arch. Arch wouldn't be in a situation where he
had to throw a twelve yard crosser if he was
running the ball, or if he was handing the ball
to a running back that has a host of guys
in front of him as a convoy, run the ball.
Speaker 1 (01:05:50):
I mean, as I said, it's easier said than done.
If they don't have that line being able to do
those types of things, it creates us being behind the
chains and can't run the ball third and fifteen. Can't
run the ball second and fifteen. You're behind the change.
You got to be able to get the ball out.
The one thing that I have continued to say, and
(01:06:12):
it looks like we went away from that is get
the ball out of his hands. Quicker quick game. That
was a successful move against Oklahoma. Then all of a
sudden we go back and he's trying to drop back
and get in sacked. I mean the model of consistency.
And coach Sark put this on himself as well. He said,
I've got to be able to call better plays to
put us in the right position. And you can't get
(01:06:35):
can't get false starts, can't get holding plays on first
play of overtime or in those particular moments. But you
do have to find a way to get things done
to position yourself. And if that means getting the ball
out of your hands quicker, then you have.
Speaker 10 (01:06:51):
To do it.
Speaker 2 (01:06:52):
If you're if Archer's running and he rolls out and
people come up to tackle him, and you have a
six six six seven tight end running across the line
of scrimmage in front of him, just dump it over,
just throwing near his face. It's still above everybody else's heads.
They gotta be able to make some things happen. Somebody's
(01:07:13):
got to make a play.
Speaker 1 (01:07:14):
So we'll end up seeing what happens this week Texas
taking off Mississippi State. Can all be heard right here
here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred's for you to say.
Coming up next, we'll close out the show, send you
to Dan Patrick and let you know what's on tap
for the rest of the day right here on Sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Victory Monday edition of
(01:07:36):
the Morning Kickoff was heard right here on Sports Radio
AM thirteen hundred The Zone. You can also make sure
you're tuned in all morning long. Starting at eleven o'clock, myself,
Craig Way, and Cam Parker will be at.
Speaker 3 (01:07:50):
The University of Texas getting.
Speaker 1 (01:07:52):
Ready for Coach Sarks media availability, which we'll start at
eleven thirty. We will start at a Evan AM. Also
stay tuned here all day as the voice of the
Texas Longhorns, Craig Way host to Craig Wayshell from two
to five this after noon. Shout out to Tommy Yarsh
(01:08:14):
of Dallas Cowboys dot com as he joined us today
to talk all things Dallas Cowboys after their forty four
to twenty two victory over the Washington Commanders. And NFL
continues tonight as we have a doubleheader again, guys, everybody's
favorite doubleheader, Mark Henry's favorite doubleheader tonight of the NFL,
(01:08:36):
and we also have Major League Baseball Game seven as
the Toronto Blue Jays and the Seattle Mariners tried to
end it to see who will face the La Dodgers
in the World Series. As the Dodgers swept last playoff
series against the Brewers. Show Hail Tany did something that's
(01:08:58):
like Haley's comment and you only see it once in
a lifetime, and that's exactly what he was able to do. Also,
there are some job openings in college football, and number
one job opening right now is Florida. As Billy Napier
was relieved of his duties after the win against Mississippi
State on Saturday, they decided to go into another direction.
(01:09:23):
So Florida is open, Penn State is open, Arkansas, Oklahoma State,
Virginia Tech, UCLA who has made a change to new
heidel Jerry Neuheisel, and all he's done is win, win, win,
no matter what. They're three and zero since that change
has been made. Stanford job is open. Looks like Auburn
(01:09:45):
in LSU might come open. That'd be crazy if LSU
comes open. To be quite honest, well, I think it's
too soon for LSU one season. No, what's his name's
been there for a while. Brian Kelly's been there for yeah,
but he hadn't failed.
Speaker 3 (01:09:59):
I agree with that.
Speaker 1 (01:10:00):
But nowadays that you see they they given buyouts already.
I mean the buyouts right now is almost one hundred
million dollar wins is not enough? One hundred million dollars
have been paid two coaches in buyouts. It's hit a
one hundred and sixteen million dollars with the buyouts of
(01:10:21):
all these coaches that have been fired.
Speaker 3 (01:10:23):
And there's some coaches at homegoing, hey, buy me out.
Speaker 1 (01:10:26):
Yes, yes, j Norvale just got let go from Colorado State.
Speaker 3 (01:10:31):
No, he out of there, two and five out there,
out of there, got to go. He's up out of there.
This is yeah, Penn State, James Franklin.
Speaker 1 (01:10:40):
That's forty nine point seven million, Billy Napier gets twenty
one point two, Mike Gundy fifteen, Arkansas, Sam Pittman gets
nine point eight. Deshaun Foster had six point six point
forty three with UCLA.
Speaker 3 (01:10:57):
How long before Belichick get the acts? Oh that that's coming.
That is one man. Get up out of here like dumb. Sorry,
I'm not laughing at him, I'm laughing at you. The
way you just said that. That is terrible for him.
Speaker 1 (01:11:12):
That that was an awful decision by North Carolina. Should
have kept mac Brown. You should have kept mac Brown.
If that's the direction that you wanted to go. At
least Mac had experience in college. He knew the landscape
of college football. He's a heck of a recruiter. All
(01:11:34):
he needed to do was have the support of the
university to get more money into the universe. And you know,
Mac gonna raise some money. So now you're thinking, oh,
let's go get Bill Belichick, who has never coached college.
When he when he was drafting people, his drafts were failing.
He was failing in the draft when he decided he
(01:11:55):
was going to do it all.
Speaker 2 (01:11:57):
It's bad about bad mojo around the university with all
of that his girlfriend stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:12:06):
Yes, conversations for no reason. So it's just bad you do. Yes,
it's just a bad, bad, bad, bad, bad look.
Speaker 2 (01:12:17):
For all of them. It's a horrible year for the coaches.
And I say this for all the coaches that are
on the bubble right now. Right Take it as a
change in philosophy, just like there's a change in philosophy
and recruiting, and the NIL has come in and changed things.
(01:12:40):
People are gonna have to have thicker skins and be
more consistent and take less chances.
Speaker 3 (01:12:45):
You know what.
Speaker 2 (01:12:46):
The one thing that you can say about the University
of Texas team offensively, they have not been taking a
lot of chances. Right, They've played consistent football and they
played the odds. We're not gonna give up explosive plays offensively.
(01:13:06):
I mean, they're not gonna throw the ball deep across
the middle. They're throwing crossers and outs and stuff that's
manageable to where you don't get a return if you
in accept the ball. They're playing really, really smart football,
which I have to give that to start. I just
believe in a more aggressive running style for what the
(01:13:30):
talent that he has, and these guys cannot block for
Arch the way that Arch needs a ligne in front
of him for the offense that he's running currently, unless
he does a quick game.
Speaker 1 (01:13:45):
Like you said, there's so many different ways that you
can be a part of the success of this football team.
There's chances that can be taken to your point, but
there's also the fact that you need to understand.
Speaker 3 (01:14:02):
That this.
Speaker 1 (01:14:07):
This is becoming more of an issue because it's so glaring.
If Texas, you see what happened in the game against Oklahoma,
they played a complete football game all three levels.
Speaker 3 (01:14:18):
The ball was being passed all over the field.
Speaker 1 (01:14:20):
He had time to stand in the pocket, and when
he wanted to run, he ran, and he had positive outcomes.
You saw what ended up happening when he was able
to do play action because your running game was effective.
Now you're looking at this football team and for the offense,
one hundred and seventy nine total yards of offense on
(01:14:45):
the Steve Sarkisian led offense. That is where the trials
and tribulations of where folks are looking at this team
is saying, well, they're not gonna beat this team now,
They're not gonna beat this team now because of the
inconsistency in which we have seen this.
Speaker 3 (01:15:03):
That is why people are like, what's next? How does
this go?
Speaker 1 (01:15:07):
Where are they gonna end up? What is the next
step for this offense? And I'm sure coach sark is
gonna be asked that today at his media availability because
there's so many questions that have been left unanswered, especially
coming into the season. If you'd have told me that
Texas would have had one hundred and seventy nine yards
of total offense and they.
Speaker 2 (01:15:28):
Won, you would have doubted, right right, the nixt five
games is gonna be a true They need this, They
need to have some real offense.
Speaker 1 (01:15:36):
Then it's gonna be a true test starting this weekend
at Mississippi State.
Speaker 3 (01:15:41):
But as we said before, make sure you tune in
all day long.
Speaker 9 (01:15:45):
Coming up next, we got Dan Patrick, followed by Colin
cal Hurd, and of course in between all of that,
it's myself, Craig Way and Camp Parker from the stadium
as Sark has his weekly press conference.
Speaker 3 (01:15:58):
And then you finish off your day with the Craig
Waves Show.
Speaker 1 (01:16:02):
From two to five for your home of Texas Athletics
right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred and so.
For Mark Henry from Marcus, I'm hardball hars and just
remember this, don't believe everything.
Speaker 3 (01:16:15):
You see, because even salt looks like sugar. Peace,
