We'll get your message. All right, let's get right into it, Mark,
(02:09):
because the NBA, you know, TNT is the one that
always says T and T it's got drama. Well, the
NBA is starting to cause a lot of drama. And
it starts with Ace Bailey For those that aren't aware,
Ace Bailey was.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
Drafted to the Utah Jazz.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
Ace Bailey is a player that sometimes mark you know
as well as I do, you can overplay your hand
and it can backfire on you. Ace Bailey didn't want
to work out for anybody told teams not to draft him. Now,
I get it. You sometimes you don't want to go
play in a certain place. It just so happens. But
(02:50):
there is a difference in being able and be coachable.
There's a difference in being able to go in have
conversations with people and let them know that, yeah, I
prefer not to play with your organization.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
It happens all the time.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
We talk about it in football, we talk about it in.
Speaker 3 (03:08):
Major League Baseball.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
The Major League Baseball Draft is coming up pretty soon,
so there's gonna be conversations about certain things. But Ace Bailey,
who is from Rutgers, one heck of a talented player.
But sometimes you overplay your hand and Danny Aingeen and
his son are not having it.
Speaker 4 (03:29):
John that I understand you have some news from Ace Bailey.
Speaker 5 (03:32):
What more can you tell.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
Us, Malika? Ace Bailey did not work out for a
single NBA team. Is the only US project that declined
to do so. This was not one of his preferred
destinations Utah. He was hoping to get to either Washington,
New Orleans, or Brooklyn. The Utah guys selected as Bailey
knowing that this is a little bit of a stunner,
(03:55):
but if you think about it, this is an outstanding
place for Ace Bailey. They have a wide open, wingless situation,
they have a huge.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
Needs for a star in his hole.
Speaker 4 (04:05):
They have an outstanding coaching staff. I think as Bailey's
going to recover from this very quickly and realized that
he landed it in an outstanding situation with the Utah Jacks.
It just shows you there's only so much an agent
can control on this process. If an NBA team decides
they're gonna take Ast Bailey, that's exactly what happened.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
And this is the first.
Speaker 4 (04:22):
One that Austin As made as a head decision maker
in the NBA, and it's.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
A big one.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
Got it So, Mark, as you sit here today understanding
that now you are a player that has an opportunity
to go to the NBA, where it is a privilege
to be able to play at the next level. Regardless
of the sport. They could have done anything. You could
(04:49):
have went undrafted. There are some great players that went undrafted,
and now you were sitting at the table and saying,
I'm not coming there.
Speaker 6 (04:58):
All right.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
This is a case of outstanding talent knowing that they're
an outstanding talent and trying to dictate the situation. It's
not the first or the last time that that's gonna happen.
I can't wait for his first contract negotiations to happen.
After this Ricky deal is over with, you might want
(05:21):
to trade him before. So it's somebody else's problem because
he's gonna be difficult. If this is the start, the
trajectory of where he's going is not going to be good.
Speaker 6 (05:33):
I'm just gonna let you know right now.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
If he didn't want to be in Utah on his
first contract, what do you think is going to happen
on this second contract?
Speaker 1 (05:43):
Well, the thing that bothers me Mark, and and again,
everybody has the right to do what they feel is
going to be best for their well being, so to speak.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
But again, this.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
Dude has created this fyerstorm around him that doesn't seem
to be positive. He's he he could very well be
the Rookie of the year next year, very well could
be it. Everybody's talked about his talent and how good
he is. But this goes back to the management. This
(06:20):
goes back to family members being involved in a situation
to try to bro you went to Rutgers.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
You went to Rutgers. That is not right.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
You created this. You had two guys from Rutgers going
the top five picks, two guys Dylan Harper and my
Man Bailey. He may be the rooker of the day,
but rookie of the year. But you start to look
at the haves and the have nots. And this is
where the stark contrast of a player who is trying
(07:00):
to dictate where he's gone versus a player like this
who was just thankful that he has an opportunity to
help his family.
Speaker 7 (07:12):
You said you saw the emotions on your mom's face.
Speaker 5 (07:15):
What were the moments you remember most about?
Speaker 7 (07:18):
Just the way your mom poured into you throughout your
life and your career.
Speaker 8 (07:22):
Man, the long nights, long nights, I'm telling you lived.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
I lived up a generator.
Speaker 6 (07:27):
I ain't had no electricity.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
I live with a generator for seven years.
Speaker 6 (07:31):
Man, See what she had to go through s fetus. Man,
it's crazy. It's crazy, but I don't even know.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
Man, I'm everywhere right now.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
Man, you see what I'm saying the appreciative.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
This dude is from a third world country where he
lived off a generator, came to Baylor and made himself
a top three pick, and now he's don't overcome and
thankful to be drafted by the Philadelphia seventy six ers.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
And you have a.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
Young man that is now saying, I'm not going to Utah,
I'm gonna dictate where I'm at.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
Harge last night, the car, the driver from where we
went to dinner. He's from here where I am. And
that's all just south of where I am. And that's
all called the place called Biboty and they and the
guy was like.
Speaker 6 (08:34):
You're from America, You're from the States.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
I said yeah, he said, he said, you've seen the
Biboty boy, see. And I was like, the Biboty boy,
he's like the basketball player from Baylor. I said, oh okay,
and he said yeah, he said he's.
Speaker 6 (08:47):
From here, like he's one of ours.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
That dude has a whole country that won him to succeed.
Speaker 6 (08:56):
Yep, like he is their kid. And I mean I
just for for Bailey too to have the attitude that
he has.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
Is it is just like it's telling yes, the people
around him, they're going to ruin him. And you you
see how this plays out, You see how it and
and you know, I told you today before yesterday, I
was right, and I told you yesterday that I was ranked.
Speaker 6 (09:35):
Wait until his contract comes up.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
And the hellstorm that's going to go on and you
talk right, you want, well, I think it's I think
it's it's starting right now.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
I mean, this is going to be something.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
Where if he sits out, Mark, if he were to
sit out in this particular moment, and his star power,
his star power is already being challenged right now.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
And I get it.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
Not everybody is going to love Utah, I get that,
but it's a it's an opportunity for you to go
out there, show your worth, build it into your point,
Mark trade, get traded, get traded. These opportunities. Man, there's
only two rounds of the NBA Draft two and you
(10:35):
were one of the few that was selected to be
at that level. And now you do not want anything
to do with it. I just think it's a it's
gonna set a bad precedent. It's gonna, like you said,
it's gonna look bad on him. But we'll see how
it plays out.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
What you got, I mean, you always want to be
in the best situation. And my grandmother used to say this,
and it used to make me laugh every time she said.
Speaker 6 (11:02):
She said, you can.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
Want in one hand and be in the other and
see which one feels up.
Speaker 6 (11:09):
Yeah, already do that.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
You're not always worried about what you want. You gotta
go with what you need. And that guy right does
missing the boat. I hope you don't hold out.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
Yeah, it's gonna be an interesting few months to see
what happens because they got the G League, I mean
not the G League, but the Summer League getting ready
to start in Las Vegas.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
Coming up, We're just getting.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
Started on a feel Good Friday edition of The Morning Kickoff.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
Next we will talk about the.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
NFL Lamar Jackson is happy that his best player is
gonna be there, and the Cowboys expectations by one ESPN analyst.
Feel Good Friday edition of The Morning Kickoff rolls on

Welcome back to a feel good Friday edition of The
(11:58):
Morning Kickoff right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
The Zone, Mike Harballhard's World Strongest Man in WWE Hall
of Famer v Mark Henry, and of course we've got
our guy Marcus on the boards.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
But I want to give it.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
Coming up in the next segment, we will talk about
the impactful rookies in the nf of L. But I
want to give a shout out to my boy Ike
as he decided to swing by Mark, and you picked
the wrong.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
Day to not be at the studio.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
To be on the road because I got this big
burrito right here for breakfast that you know, you always
like to talk about food. So my boy Ike brought
us some food. And you picked the wrong day to
be on the road.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
Bro. You mut it, You mut.
Speaker 6 (12:52):
It like Marvin's cousin.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
Hey, y'all go burritos and you're showing them.
Speaker 6 (13:02):
You know what, I see. What kind of friends y'all are?
Speaker 1 (13:06):
Hey, you know what kind of friends we are? Ones
that are gonna be full after we eat this.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
And you know what, I'm so glad that you got
to sit there and stare at it.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
Big. They big and delicious, nice.
Speaker 6 (13:21):
And Marcus, mute your mic.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
Yeah, he brought up some tacos from Dave's Tacos out
in Laga Vista. So it is, Ah, it's a monster
breakfast burrito dog. This is this is right up your alley.
Speaker 6 (13:39):
Though.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
This would have been something that you would have really devoured.
Speaker 6 (13:43):
Breakfast tacos and breakfast burritos.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
Yeah, yeah, so check this out.
Speaker 6 (13:47):
Man.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
We're gonna get into this conversation because I'm excited about
this because of what we have. Good morning to Jake,
Thanks for to tuning in. I wanted to get into
this conversation because there is so much going on in
the NFL and one of the biggest stories that we
have been able to cover over the last few seasons
(14:09):
is Lamar Jackson his journey MVP, still trying to get
over the hump he gets. He brings in Derrick Henry.
Derrick Henry is a huge part of the success, but
they still can't get there and last year there was
a playoff series where they didn't get to that point
because of the play of Mark Andrews. Mark Andrews has
(14:32):
been an integral part of the success that Lamar Jackson
had and Lamar Jackson they had practices, they had their
mini camps, and Lamar Jackson touched on how important Mark
Andrews is for the success of their football team.
Speaker 9 (14:50):
We had webs that year, but got the hop new
audition and now guys ready Man got eight with a
new country up, got Lizzy got likely got.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
Mark Man Drews.
Speaker 9 (14:59):
Can't forget my guy, Man, my guys. I gotta get
on mensors real quick. That guy is different man, you know,
because I've been seeing my guy be getting talked about
and I really, I really don't like that because he
you know, he's done so much for us. I'm off
topic right here, but he's done so much for us
and how people did him, you know, I just don't
like that.
Speaker 3 (15:14):
Camar still Mark. You know, Mendules, you mentioned this earlier.
Speaker 8 (15:18):
Going back to it, there was a time this offseason
where it looked like Mark wasn't certain to.
Speaker 6 (15:23):
Be back here.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
Did that?
Speaker 8 (15:24):
Is that the part that you said bothered you and
did you voice how important you know?
Speaker 2 (15:29):
Is?
Speaker 10 (15:29):
No?
Speaker 9 (15:29):
I just seen people like you know, trying to dog
him on comments and stuff. But it's like it's don't
get me wrong, it's a lot of people that wish
they could have been playing this game, you know, and
he's accompassed so much, you know, for us, you know himself.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
So I feel like just let things happen sometimes, you.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
Know, we we wish, we wish we'd.
Speaker 9 (15:46):
Have won the game. You know, I wish I didn't
throw that interception. I wish I didn't fumble. You know,
I wish the missap didn't happen, but it happened. You know,
It's just a lesson learn man, So next time we'll
do something better. That's all ya see.
Speaker 1 (15:57):
Gotta have your boys back at all times. And that
seems to be what Lamar Jackson. You hear people talking
about Mark Andrews, but then he put it on himself.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
I shouldn't have thrown the interception. I shouldn't have fumbled.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
There's other things that happened in the ballgame that played
a part.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
So it's a.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
Different different Lamar Jackson. And he just seems like a
more mature not saying he wasn't mature Mark, but he
seems to be more in control of his football team.
Speaker 2 (16:28):
Yeah, we talked about the tools that he had last
year as compared to what he has this year. You
look at the exposition the right side of his viewing
the guy that's right in his face is gonna be
a bigger, giant guy in d hot And now Bateman
(16:52):
and Flowers will be able to play the z N
in the slot hard. If they go with tight end
in that in that formation where they have basically have
four wide receivers like they're the Ravens, are gonna be
very difficult to stop. They don't normally run an ace
package where they have one back. They usually have a
(17:14):
full back or tight end in motion the lead block.
Speaker 6 (17:17):
But it's it's gonna be different this year.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
I mean, I'm just the addition of a possession wide
receiver as opposed to all of the small, quick wide
receivers that they had in years past. And they had
as much as I love Devin Dubna, Devin Duvin A,
Flowers and Bateman all pretty much the same guy, you know,
so they needed the contrast, and now they have that.
(17:44):
I think it's gonna be a little bit different to
defend Derek when you got no safeties and you gotta
have linebackers back up and cover.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
Yeah, it's a it's a kind of a strange but
entertaining offense that we look at and we say all right,
you got Dereck Henry back there. That is the ace
that you could always have. That's somebody that is you
get a we're gonna take We're gonna end this game
by handing him the football. But then you have a
(18:13):
DeAndre Hopkins, who I don't know how much he has
left in the tank, but his teaching ability is still
top level, so he's gonna get the most out of
those wide receivers. And of course you got the MVP
and Lamar Jackson. So things are looking up when you
start to break down and try to figure out who
can be a contender in the AFC. I think that
(18:37):
Baltimore is a team that continues to be at the.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
Top of everybody's list. Yes, you got my homes.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
Yes, everybody wants to talk about Joe Burrow and his crew.
But to me, and of course Josh Allen, but to me,
if I'm a wagering man and I will be in
Vegas next week, I may throw a little change down
on the Baltimore I think I might put a little
money on the battle. No you kidding, Yeah, man, I
(19:04):
mean that's what word on the street is. You know
what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
If you had to pick four teams to be the
final four of.
Speaker 6 (19:13):
The team that you think would be in the Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
Dallas Cowboys, Hey man, I.
Speaker 6 (19:24):
Love you like a face because but hey man, we
gotta do that.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
Don't don't do that.
Speaker 6 (19:31):
I'll give you mine and then you give me yours.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
I think that Buffalo, the Ravens, the Chiefs are gonna
make a big bounce back this year and last, but
not least. I feel like this is the year of
the Detroit line.
Speaker 6 (19:50):
They have everything that they need.
Speaker 2 (19:54):
They had a chance last year and they faltered because.
Speaker 6 (20:00):
The quarterback tried to do too much.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
Yeap when you when now, I think the experience of okay,
let me put the ball in the hands of the
people that need it.
Speaker 6 (20:12):
It is gonna help Detroit this year.
Speaker 1 (20:14):
Okay, So you you got Baltimore, you got Buffalo, you
got Kansas City, and you got Detroit. Those are the
teams that are coming in second, and they're tied. Baltimore
Buffalo are plus seven ten, Kansas City is plus seven fifty.
Detroit is plus nine to thirty. So the only team
that you left out of there was the Philadelphia Eagles.
(20:38):
The Philadelphia Eagles are the other team and they are
the favorite at plus six point eighty. But to answer
your question, I'm all in on Baltimore Kansas City until
you stopped them. They've got to be in the conversation.
I still have Buffalo as well. But the other team
that I keep looking at is gonna be the Washington Commanders.
(21:01):
The Washington Commanders are a team that continues to get
better and better every single year. Now people can talk
about a sophomore slump possibility, I don't see that happen
happening with Jaden Daniels because the way Jayden Daniels goes
about his business is.
Speaker 3 (21:18):
Second to none.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
I've talked to people that are close to Cliff Kingsbury
and he says sometimes Jaden is in the facility before
Cliff gets there, and Cliff is there all the time.
So there's a lot that is going on with the
Washington Commanders. So we will see how that plays out.
I like that, Mark, I like that. I'm gonna get
(21:40):
to the Dallas Cowboys conversation in just a minute because
I want you to hear what Dominique fox Worthy said
about the Cowboys. So we will see what's going to
happen there. Coming up next Arch Knox life, and it
will be about the nf of L a rookie impact,
and of course one of those rooks just happens to
(22:01):
be a former Longhorn. Right here on the Morning Kickoff
on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Welcome back
to the morning kickoff right here on a feel good
Friday edition of Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
Coming up at the top of the hour, we have
our guys Zach sim of Orange Bloods coming to you
talking all things Texas Longhorns transfer portal as Texas picked
(22:25):
up another big move, big fish, I guess you would say,
in the transfer portal for baseball yesterday. But right now
I want to get into the Dallas Cowboys and the
impactful rookies of the NFL. But I want you to
hear from Dominique Foxworthy. He was talking about the expectations
(22:46):
when it comes to the Dallas Cowboys and everything else
that goes with it, and a key person that has
to play well for them to have success.
Speaker 11 (22:56):
Dominique fox Worth, I've been asking this question about a
lot of teams this week, and I'll ask you here
about the Dallas Cowboys. In your opinion, what would constitute
a successful season for Dallas this year.
Speaker 7 (23:09):
I think it's the NFC Championship game at least. I
know that seems like a lofty expectations for a team
that only won seven games last year, but you have
to remember that Dak Prescott was injured for almost half
of the season and the defense kind of fell apart.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
With the addition of.
Speaker 7 (23:24):
Eva Flus as the defensive coordinator, they can really, I think,
maximize some of that talent and the receiving core with
Dak Prescott obviously can put up big numbers. He can
play MVP caliber football. So I think this team has
a chance if they put it all together, depending on
how well their new coaching staff Jels So I guess
it's kind of an old coaching staff with a little
bit of new leadership. We'll see how good this team does.
(23:45):
But I do think the expectations remain high in Dallas.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
They're going to always remain high.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
They're always going to be expected to play at a
high level. And this was the conversation I was happening
with somebody yesterday. If Dak Prescott is healthy, the season
is totally different.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
We know that.
Speaker 1 (24:04):
I mean, I know a lot of people want to
look at, well, he's never done this, he's never done that.
Every time Dak plays a full season, he's done an
unbelievable job.
Speaker 3 (24:14):
And Dallas is in the mix all the way through.
Speaker 2 (24:18):
Well, not only has he done a good job and
he's been able to keep Dallas steadily at the top
of the Eastern confer Eastern Division, they've they've not had
a season where they were able to put the offensive
success and the defensive together in the same season, right,
(24:38):
So you know, now everybody's you know, kind of raving
about the people that Dallas brought in to change things,
and you know, Solomon Thomas is one of those.
Speaker 6 (24:53):
The biggest problem.
Speaker 2 (24:54):
You know, you can go back to Dallas in New
Orleans last year when Dallas couldn't stop a cold there
was no play on their defensive game plan that can
stop with New Orleans and New Orleans was not a powerhouse.
So the defense was the weakness. And now they feel
(25:16):
like they've corrected it. We'll see what happens in the
preseason and this offseason. Football practices that start up here
pretty soon, but large that's where it's really gonna start.
They advanced with a wide receiver. They advanced in their
offensive schematics. With the running backs that they brought in.
(25:38):
They increased the run blocking in their offensive line. Like
every weakness that they had they attempted to fix. And
on defensive line is where the time MEAs to road.
Speaker 6 (25:53):
They brought in a cornerback.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
I mean, yeah, granted he had a serious injury the
year prior, but by the time the season starts and
they go through training camp, he should be healthy.
Speaker 6 (26:05):
Right, So they fixed the eels.
Speaker 2 (26:08):
Now it's all about going out there and doing it,
and that comes down to the coaching. That comes down
to the staff, and this has been the most optimistic
offseason with Dallas coaching in years.
Speaker 6 (26:26):
So yeah, I can see him making a big bounce back. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
I mean again, it starts at the quarterback position. Everything
else that you mentioned they did shure it up. But
if Dak is playing at all pro level again, if
he's playing at runner up to the MVP, this team
is in a different place. And we'll get into Jayden
Blue in the next hour, but the Cowboys are definitely
(26:53):
a team to watch. Now we were talking about the
odds and where certain teams and their money kind of sit.
The Cowboys are I was telling you Philadelphia is that
plus six point eighty. Detroit in the NFC is at
plus nine thirty forty nine, Ers at plus seventeen seventy five,
and the Commanders at plus eighteen fifty. The Cowboys are
(27:15):
at plus fifty two hundred, so they don't see them.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
But this was for the Super Bowl. These are Super
Bowl odds.
Speaker 1 (27:26):
So yeah, it's a different football team when you sit
back and you think about it, But the perspective is
always going to be the same when it comes to
the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (27:38):
Love them or hate them, they're going to attack them.
Speaker 1 (27:40):
But I wanted to talk about this too because CBS
put out a report yesterday or a couple of days
ago talking about the next man up. Who among the
rookies do you see as a top one hundred player
that could possibly become Rookie of the Year. Obviously, Travis
Hunter and Ashton Genty are at the top of the list,
(28:01):
but there's two Longhorns that are on there. One of
them is wide receiver Matthew Golden. He is number four
for Offensive Rookie of the Year. He's plus thirty three hundred.
He's expected to make a bunch of big plays. He's
somebody that you and I got a chance to watch
up close and personal.
Speaker 3 (28:18):
He is a special, special talent.
Speaker 1 (28:20):
Then he goes out there and runs a four to
three and everybody's looking at him like, okay, now this
is a little bit different. So he is coming in
at number four. At number five is Jaday Baron. Jaday
Barron is a odds to be defensive Rookie of the
year is plus twenty one hundred. And for him to
(28:43):
come in and be able to play the slot, probably
play the corner. We know how talented that young man is.
And you know he's gonna get challenged because Patrick certain
is on the other side of the field as well.
So jah Day's gonna get plenty of opportunities. It out
with Elite Starks at number six. He's the young man
(29:03):
from Georgia, the safety that will have a chance to
be defensive player of the year. What do you think
about the offensive and defensive Texas Longhorn players that have
a chance to be the Rookies of the Year.
Speaker 2 (29:15):
Yeah, I think that's great. I think that everything that
you said was very valid. But I think they also
are leaving out a defender in Macouba, who is, you know,
going to be an asset on defense and add extremely,
(29:37):
extremely good depth to that that Eagles defense.
Speaker 1 (29:43):
Yeah, he's been getting a lot of run in that
nickel position as well, but he also has been playing
at true safety. And all reports out of Philadelphia is
that mccooba is somebody that they're not going to be
able to keep off the field very long because he's
able to do so many different things at his position
and with his athleticism. You know, people tend to forget
(30:05):
about those types of players because they're not used to
seeing them. They hear the other names and they're like, oh,
but Macooba is somebody that is going to cause a
lot of problems in the NFC East. And I will yeah,
and I don't like him being on the Eagles, but
it is what it is.
Speaker 6 (30:23):
I don't need to.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
Coming up next, we're gonna finish out our number one.
Some news came out of Baltimore and it wasn't great,
and nor was it in the Dominican Republic. I will
explain right here on the morning kickoff on sports Radio
AM thirteen hundred the Zone. Coming up at the top
of the hour, we got Zack sim of Orange Bloods
(30:48):
to talk a lot about Texas Baseball and what they've
been able to get done so quickly when it comes
to that situation. But right now I wanted to get
into this because yesterday news was broke that Justin Tucker
of the NFL has been suspended for the first ten
(31:08):
games of the twenty twenty five to twenty sixth season.
And the one thing that in this particular moment mark
for him to be suspended obviously he got released by
the multiple of Ravens, and now they are sitting in
a position to try to replace him. They've already drafted
(31:31):
and they did the things that they need to do.
If you are a team, and I know we're both
close to this situation, but if you are a team,
do you make the move to sign Justin Tucker after
those ten games?
Speaker 2 (31:46):
I mean, I would improve my team. I'm not gonna lie.
I think that. You know, in sports, once you serve
your penance, then you know, hopefully the person got counseling,
had done some things to try to rectify the situation. Uh,
and it's not gonna be a reoccurring type of situation.
Speaker 3 (32:09):
Yep.
Speaker 6 (32:10):
Uh, yeah, I was signing.
Speaker 3 (32:13):
Okay, I think that there's gonna.
Speaker 2 (32:15):
Thought he got off light by the way, I thought
they were gonna stick him the season, right.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
Well, I just know that as a as a person
who saw him as the best kicker in the NFL
in its history. I know that it because if it
comes down to it, at the end of it all,
somebody will make a move and try to sign him.
In another case that has been ongoing, and it is
the Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco was found guilty
(32:46):
of sexual abuse of a minor and a Dominican Republic.
He will received and he received a suspended two year
prison sentence Thursday after he had sex with a minor
when he was twenty one years old. Now, the interesting
part of this story and all of this is disgusting,
by the way, the mother of the victim was trafficking
(33:11):
her daughter. And that is where it kind of gets
to a point of why this happened, how this happened,
and how his sentence was suspended because they find out
that the mother approved of the relationship by you know,
trafficking her daughter and extorted him.
Speaker 3 (33:32):
Right because he had just recently.
Speaker 1 (33:36):
Signed right at age twenty twenty one, he signed a
contract of an eleven year, one hundred and eighty two
million dollar contract. Now, you know, because he's on a
restricted list, he doesn't have his visa, he's not part
of the team. They're not liable for all of that
money now, But it goes back to the point of
(33:58):
what we were just talking about. Once all this is
settled as an organization, do you make the move to
sign a guy that has this type of history and
the fact that there will be so much especially in
the world of social media now, there will be so
(34:18):
much backlash for this organization, whichever one it might be,
Do you make a move for him because at the time,
at his time of playing, he was one of the
best baseball players at that.
Speaker 6 (34:32):
Moment, I mean made an All Star team.
Speaker 1 (34:35):
Yeah, oh, he was an absolute stack like not.
Speaker 6 (34:38):
An average player.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
And we both know that an average player might not
get a shot, but an extremely effective All Star caliber
player you're going to get a second.
Speaker 6 (34:52):
Or third chance. I mean, look at Antonio Brown.
Speaker 2 (34:55):
I mean, I mean you look at him right now,
because he's There's been dumpster virus before, but there's not
one being at this level of right now.
Speaker 1 (35:08):
He has fleed the country. Bro, think about that, right,
he ain't have a choice.
Speaker 2 (35:14):
Yeah, you know, whatever with Leonardo Dicamprige, like where are
but but but.
Speaker 6 (35:20):
This guy is going to get another shot hard.
Speaker 3 (35:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (35:24):
Yeah, And that's why, you know, certain things you start
to look at and you're like, wow, man, yeah, things
have changed quite a bit, and the thought process on
a lot of these moves puts you in a spot
to where it's like, wow, this is going to be tough.
Speaker 3 (35:41):
For a lot of folks when you start to break
it down.
Speaker 1 (35:43):
So I was just curious to your thoughts on that,
because this is both of those players.
Speaker 3 (35:50):
Are those players that have so much talent.
Speaker 1 (35:53):
That people will look at them a little bit different
in those particular moments.
Speaker 3 (35:58):
And that's why I wanted to ask you that.
Speaker 1 (36:00):
Because I mean, you've you've been in sports where there's
been some questionable thought processes on a lot of the superstars,
so to speak, and you've had to deal with that.
Because the biggest question for me is coming back into
those locker rooms, coming back into those locker rooms and
having to deal with a Mark Henry and Mike Harge
(36:23):
or or somebody that has young daughters that you're starting
to look at and you're like, wait, a minute, man,
I don't know if I want to be around that
type of person.
Speaker 6 (36:35):
Right, So trade me.
Speaker 3 (36:39):
Well, we know I.
Speaker 2 (36:40):
Don't want to be here. I don't want to be here, y'all.
Y'all gonna let this dude come in here, Like, come on, man,
but what do we do?
Speaker 1 (36:47):
But you normally are the one trying to trade people,
So this time it's trade yourself.
Speaker 3 (36:51):
You want to be traded?
Speaker 2 (36:52):
Yeah, man, I don't want to be like I know
you and we're sitting here being diplomatic on radio, but
off the air, we'd be like, Man, I can be
in a locker room.
Speaker 3 (37:05):
That dude, right right, And this is just real.
Speaker 2 (37:09):
You know I'm not I'm not gonna do it. Trade me,
I don't want to be here, that's what you're gonna do.
Then just know that there's gonna be a mass exodus
because I know a lot of other men in his
locker room feel the same way.
Speaker 3 (37:22):
Well, and that's where his leadership rules.
Speaker 2 (37:25):
Yeah, you can be a murderer, you can be an assassin,
you can be the worst of the worst, But when
you go to jail as a pedophile, that's the one
thing that universally everybody just cannot stand yeah.
Speaker 1 (37:41):
I agree with that one, and that's why some of
these things you gotta you gotta sit back and really
try to see what the organization, the direction of the organization,
how do you how do you look in the face
of this type of adversity. I heard some people talking
about the Michael Vick situation. You already know how that
went down, and that was for animals. So animal cruelty
(38:03):
is one thing, but when you start dealing with little kids,
it becomes bigger than just that.
Speaker 3 (38:10):
So we'll see.
Speaker 1 (38:12):
But coming up next, our number one is in the books.
Coming up next, we're gonna talk Texas baseball and what's
going on in the transfer portal.
Speaker 3 (38:20):
That's why we got our.
Speaker 1 (38:21):
Guys Zach sim joining us to talk all things Texas
baseball right here on a feel good Friday edition of
The Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
Welcome back to our number two of the Morning Kickoff
right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
Mike Harballhart's World Strongest Man, WWE Hall of Famer, the
(38:42):
Mark Henry our number one. We got an opportunity to
talk about the NBA and how life comes at you
fast for Ace Bailey. We also talked about the expectations
of the Dallas Cowboys and the Baltimore Ravens. We had
rookie impact players of John A. Barron and Matthew Go
and we just talked about the criminal cases and the
(39:04):
sentences that were handed down for suspended Justin Tucker and
Wander Franco. But right now I want to get right
into Texas baseball as we are joined by my guy
Zachary sim Zack Sim and Zach got the dish on
social media and Zach, let's get right into.
Speaker 3 (39:21):
A Texas baseball.
Speaker 1 (39:23):
The season was a little bit it ended too soon
for a lot of people, but now Texas is moving
into the off season and let's just say they are
moving fast in the transfer portal and getting some big
name guys.
Speaker 6 (39:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (39:38):
Absolutely, the staff did not take a break at all, man,
They got right to work. They were back in the
office the next day and going through the analytics and
looking at who was available and who might become available.
And yeah, they've landed some really great names. They've got
the number three transfer portal class according to sixty four Analytics,
so they're off to a hot start for sure.
Speaker 1 (39:57):
And one of the biggest areas that they went there
was pitching, and it looks like they decided that if
we're gonna go for pitching, we need to go for
left handed pitchers, and they have really rated the transfer
portal on the left handed pitching side of things.
Speaker 6 (40:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (40:15):
Absolutely.
Speaker 12 (40:15):
I think one of the things that Max really enjoyed
about the season was the guys that he had were
really good pitchers, right, they had good pitch ability. The
next step then is getting guys that have elite stuff.
You know, they can just come in and throw ninety
five ninety six because that's what you see from the
top of the echelon in the SEC. And so you
get a guy like Dots and you get a guy
like left Fuo who just committed yesterday Cal Higgins. Those
(40:39):
guys are going to come in and they're gonna throw hard,
and they're gonna put some elite stuff on you. And
so the bullpen, I don't think we've seen this god
have a bullpen in a very very long time at Texas.
Speaker 2 (40:50):
Mark Well, I'm a new fan to baseball, and I
mean no, it's no secret.
Speaker 6 (41:02):
I enjoy watching the grass and.
Speaker 2 (41:06):
To see this season and be introduced to the level
of understanding from Hard.
Speaker 10 (41:14):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (41:15):
He said to me, Texas is going to be a
good team, but they they have to jail early.
Speaker 4 (41:21):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (41:22):
Coach slas Niggle, you know, kind of had a late start,
and that now that somebody of his caliber, coach is
going to be able to put together a team next
season with all the preparation, that's going to be elite.
Speaker 6 (41:37):
Do you feel the same sentiment. Yeah.
Speaker 12 (41:40):
I mean it's always a different group of players, right,
There's always a different personality to each team, and I
think slas Niggle readily will acknowledge that that this year
they had some really what he calls elite human beings.
You know, you had the gal Vans, the flores Is,
the Kimball, Schustlers, the Max Blues, and that made a
big difference.
Speaker 5 (41:58):
And so now it's the next that's got to step up.
Speaker 12 (42:00):
The Mendoza's, all of a Rod's, all of those guys
have to come together and say, look, we know the standard.
We played to the standard. Now we got to take
the next step, and it's all about incorporating the new guys. Certainly,
that's you know, that's why you have fallball, as hard
as can speak to.
Speaker 5 (42:15):
I mean, that's where you learn a lot about each other.
Speaker 12 (42:17):
You spend a lot of time with each other, and
you're going to get to know very quickly. This is
what coach expects of me, this is what the other
players expect of me, and this is what we have
to do to come together. So yeah, I think you know,
if Texas was dangerous last year, and you know, basically
yesterday or two days ago was when Slawstengle got hired
last year, right, you know, now he's had an entire offseason.
Speaker 5 (42:40):
It's it's going to make a huge difference in the
end of the end of the day.
Speaker 3 (42:44):
We're talking to Zach sim of Orange Blood.
Speaker 1 (42:47):
You can follow them at Zach at the Dish on
social media. Is Zach You know, a lot of players
are being looked at for the MLB Draft.
Speaker 3 (42:58):
We talked about Galvon, you mentioned him.
Speaker 1 (43:00):
He was just in Omaha for the award ceremony for
the Buster Posey Award.
Speaker 3 (43:06):
And now another person that was there was Carson Tini.
Speaker 1 (43:10):
I mean somebody that Texas just got in the transfer portal.
You look at will Gasparino and Tommy Farmer jumping into
the transfer portal and then Texas goes out and get
some guys to replace them. This forever changing world of
college athletics, especially in baseball, has changed so much, but
(43:33):
Texas is right at the forefront when it comes out
to being able to go get elite talent to fill
in those voids.
Speaker 12 (43:40):
Yeah, I think you just have to take a look
at the D one Baseball All American list that came
out yesterday, and it wasn't just Dylan Valantis on the
first team. You got Caleb Freeman who's committed out of
the transfer portal. He was a first teamer. And Carson Tinni,
who you mentioned at catcher not just a buster Posey
semi final or finalist, but he's also a third team.
So the bill need to replace a buster sim Buster
(44:01):
Poseyo finalist with another one is just purely incredible.
Speaker 5 (44:06):
I mean that's a huge coup.
Speaker 12 (44:08):
And coaches anywhere, including slowst Angle, will tell you if
you're not solid up the middle, so catcher, shortstop, center field,
then you're gonna have issues, right And so they've went
out and got Timu from Sam Stanford. He's a senior guy,
got experience, has Omaha experience. In fact, played against Texas
in the Stanford Super regional. You got Carson Tinney, who's
(44:29):
again we just talked about, and then they have a
number of options that they can roll out to center field,
including our man Jonah, who's you know, going through go
football right now. So I think also Jonah, you look
at him and that the ability to integrate him into
the team so quickly last year, well technically this year
because he came into January, is massive, right.
Speaker 1 (44:49):
So, Yeah, it's an interesting look when you start to
break down everything that's going with this baseball team. We
talked about some of the guys and one of the
biggest things that I've noticed, These aren't little guys that
they're bringing in. These are guys that are like six
four six two six four, six' five six. THREE i,
(45:10):
mean he's going for some size when it comes to
these baseball.
Speaker 12 (45:14):
Players, yeah we you will no longer see A texas
team that rolls out there against The stanford of old
and it's like you got, this you, Know Mark henry
on the others dugout and then you've got me on
the other.
Speaker 5 (45:27):
Side and be, like what the heck is going on?
Speaker 12 (45:29):
HERE i, mean if they're going out and they're competing
in THE sec that's for, sure no.
Speaker 2 (45:34):
Doubt hard you let me know that how important it
is at third base and and all the things that
you have to do at third base and and also at.
Shortstop where where did where Did texas improve at third
base and short? Stop are what they have is already
(45:55):
what you need for next?
Speaker 12 (45:56):
Season, YEAH i think that's a really good, question AND
i think that's where they have to find out what
that looks like in the. Fall you, Know tiamu will
Replace Jalen. Flores jalen And flores was really really good.
Defensively he didn't have the year offensively that they wanted
him to, have, obviously so you may take a slight step,
back not very much, defensively but maybe improve on a
(46:19):
more consistent basis.
Speaker 5 (46:20):
Offensively and then at third.
Speaker 12 (46:22):
BASE i think we're going to be in for another
heck of a fall battle Between Adrian rodriguez And Casey.
Borba you, Know, borbis he's going into, Training he's spinning all,
summer getting his body, right getting that swing.
Speaker 5 (46:33):
Right Adrian, rodriguez he's not going. Anywhere he's doing the
exact same.
Speaker 12 (46:37):
Thing he's up in THE dfw working on his body
because he wants to, compete so you, know that might
be the battle of fall ball is to watch those
two guys go back and forth at, it AND i,
think if anything, else you're going to see improvement there,
regardless just because of how dedicated they are to their.
Speaker 1 (46:53):
Craft let me ask you, this because that was great
points that you made about the position. Battles but my
question for you is About adrian And Ethan. Mendoza how
are they health wise after a long season where they
were dealing with injuries and being banged up for the
second half of the.
Speaker 12 (47:12):
Season, Yeah ethan went immediately up to The. Cape he's
been playing for The Chatham anglers and he's hitting two sixty.
Two he's got six RBIs a home. Run you kind
of feel like he just like stepped right back into baseball.
Speaker 5 (47:24):
Immediately so he's doing. Well and then A.
Speaker 12 (47:27):
ROD i haven't talked to, him but from Everything i've,
heard everything's going really.
Speaker 5 (47:30):
Well his hands healing up nicely.
Speaker 12 (47:32):
Again he's he's working more on the body side of
things right now and just.
Speaker 6 (47:36):
Being able to move.
Speaker 5 (47:37):
Better so, yeah everything everything's trending.
Speaker 1 (47:40):
Correctly and what happens now for the, offseason, obviously you
know where in the. Summer you got guys all over
the place as far as teams and where they're working,
Playing but those that aren't playing for other, teams what
is the plan for them once they get back on.
Speaker 12 (47:57):
Campus, yeah you know that a lot of guys that
didn't go to summer ball this year are staying.
Speaker 5 (48:03):
Back they're working, out, they're you, know trying to improve their.
Speaker 12 (48:06):
Bodies i'm sure That Matt couch has them on a
regimented program because that guy is an animal when it
comes to strength and. Conditioning they'll they'll report back for
a mini session at the beginning Of august and then you,
know school starts and they'll be right back into the
swing of.
Speaker 5 (48:21):
Things so they're they're getting at. It and you, know you.
Speaker 12 (48:25):
Look at some of the guys that didn't maybe get
a lot of innings last, season Like Drew. Rehrick he's
got a one eight e r a out In california
and he's got four walks sixteen. Strikeouts so all the
guys are getting better and it's what you want to
see from from a production standpoint for.
Speaker 1 (48:39):
Sure And i'm gonna let you go with. This THE
Mlb draft is coming. Up texas has a lot of
guys that are, top top end high school players that
should hear their name called pretty soon in THE Mlb.
Draft what are you and your guys hearing about some
of these players and how far do they have to
(48:59):
fall in the draft before they decide if they're gonna
come To texas or go to THE Mlb.
Speaker 12 (49:05):
Draft, yeah as far as, signees the two biggest names
Are Casey cunningham out Of San Antonio johnson and Then
Gavin fine out of out Of. California you, know you
might see both of those guys in the top twenty.
Picks in order to get those kind of guys and,
talent and what they're looking for is on. Campus you,
know they'd certainly have to fall out of the first,
round BUT i just. DON'T i mean every literally every
(49:27):
TIME i talk to a, scout it's this guy continues
to just. Produce this guy is a beast on the,
field SO i would not expect him on. Campus although
you probably hear a massive eruption of cheers from the
from Dishfalk field if one of them did land.
Speaker 3 (49:40):
Right no doubt about.
Speaker 1 (49:42):
It we're gonna let you go Before peter comes in in.
Speaker 3 (49:45):
Bugs that's about all your things in the.

information about our baseball team at The university Of texas
and the expectations and what they've been able to do
so quickly in the.
Speaker 3 (51:18):
Offseason BUT i want to.
Speaker 1 (51:20):
Get into The Dallas cowboys And, mark you AND i
have had these conversations And Pro Football focus came out
and said that The Dallas cowboys have the worst running
back room in the NF. L that's even after the,
draft that's after the.
Speaker 3 (51:42):
Moves that they made this.
Speaker 1 (51:43):
Offseason we Heard Dominique foxworthy talk about The Dallas cowboys
and how he sees them getting. Better But, Mark Pro Football,
focus WHICH i don't always agree WITH i don't always
agree with, them said that The cowboys have the out
of the thirty two, teams The Dallas cowboys are number thirty.
Speaker 6 (52:03):
Two that's.
Speaker 2 (52:07):
Very. Disheartening BUT i think that your offensive line is
gonna really dictate what your running backs are going to
be able to. Do and The cowboys have unproven guys
in their, backfield so it's hard to evaluate how good
they are if they never. Played So Pro Football, focus you,
(52:33):
KNOW i take what they say with a grain of
salt because you can't evaluate something that's never been played.
Speaker 6 (52:40):
Before well they, were no.
Speaker 2 (52:43):
Wonder that they have them at a low rating because
there's nothing to judge it.
Speaker 1 (52:47):
By, well you still have you have your Guy Javonte,
williams you Have sanders who has, Played you have guys
that have have played in THE.
Speaker 6 (52:56):
Nfl have they played for The?
Speaker 2 (52:58):
Cowboys behind the Cowboy boys offensive line the.
Speaker 3 (53:01):
One that you have thought has been. SUSPECT i, mean,
well this is a new offensive.
Speaker 1 (53:07):
Line, correct, Correct but you still have to look at
the positional.
Speaker 3 (53:12):
Grades and, Again i'm not.
Speaker 1 (53:14):
Somebody that believes in every single one of pro football
focuses thought. Processes but if you look at how it breaks,
down you'll, say all, Right Baltimore ravens they have at number.
Speaker 3 (53:27):
One do you disagree or agree with? THAT i?
Speaker 6 (53:32):
Agree number.
Speaker 2 (53:33):
Two that's that's proven, commodities That's Lamar, Jackson Derrick, henry
a defense that's always in the top, five and skilled
position players at every.
Speaker 6 (53:45):
Position it's sometimes too deep at every.
Speaker 1 (53:48):
Position, well here's a commodity.
Speaker 6 (53:51):
That's not hard that they feel some.
Speaker 2 (53:56):
Spots The cowboys had one of the worst ratios in
THE nfl in third down and one and fourth down and.
One they went out and got the running back From Clemson,
MafA who's two.
Speaker 6 (54:10):
Hundred and thirty.
Speaker 2 (54:11):
Pounds if with that offensive line and a two hundred
and thirty five pound running, back you can't get one yard, now.
Speaker 6 (54:20):
Then strapped the whole offensive running Back.
Speaker 1 (54:23):
Roun which is why they have them at thirty. Two
because you look at what The raiders. Are they just
went out and got a first round pick In ashton
genty and they're at number. Thirteen so it can't always
be about they hadn't had this line or they hadn't had,
that Because Raheem moster is somebody that you look at
him and you're, Like, okay he's had, success but is
(54:45):
he really that? Good you got some sort McCormick N Zaire,
white two different styles of running, backs and they're ranked
at number. Thirteen and then you got The chargers who
are now with a new both backs are brand, new
and they're up bad number. Fifteen so you start to
look at some of these teams and you're, Like, okay
why is this team better than this?
Speaker 3 (55:07):
One? Nineteen you Got.
Speaker 1 (55:08):
Joe mixon now teamed up With Nick chubb and they're
at number.
Speaker 3 (55:12):
NINETEEN i think they should be.
Speaker 1 (55:14):
Hired when you look at how this team is being,
established but to your, point brand new offensive, line a
lot of, Changes so we'll see what ends up. Happening
but somebody that is going to be an integral part
of the success is going to Be Jaden blue and
our Guy Big Marcus spears Swag ooo spoke about What
(55:38):
Jaden blue is going to bring to The Dallas.
Speaker 8 (55:41):
Cowboys, swago, though do you maybe be right on somebody
in this rookie class do you think could have an?
Speaker 3 (55:46):
IMPACT i sure.
Speaker 10 (55:49):
Do jayden As blue as my shirt In, dallas and
because of speed and home, runability AND i know there
were some questions about fumbling coming out of. College he
was in a stack running back. Room one of the
fortunate THINGS i think for him is that he doesn't
have a lot of carries on his. Body but more,
importantly it's What nina alluded to at the end when
(56:11):
he was talking about. GENT i think The dallas offensive
line is going to be one of the more physical
and athletic offensive lines when it comes to zone scheme
as far as getting running backs in lanes and allowing
them to use. Speed they also brought Over javonte from
The Denver.
Speaker 6 (56:27):
Broncos But i'm.
Speaker 10 (56:28):
Looking forward to seeing this rookie maybe shock a lot of.
People it's a lot of good stuff coming out about
him when he was there For Rookie Minnie camp And
OTA's the speed jumps off the page at a four three.
Speaker 6 (56:38):
Eight he could be an unsung guy that.
Speaker 10 (56:41):
We end up talking about a lot as one of
these rookie running backs by the end of the.
Speaker 3 (56:45):
Season let's, Go let's, Go Jayden, Blue let's. Go AND
i love.
Speaker 6 (56:53):
IT i love.
Speaker 3 (56:53):
It swaggoo believes In Jaden.
Speaker 2 (56:56):
Blue, hey But, harden you look at what The cowboys
have done in years past with, speedbacks and they've always
been able to scheme for speedbacks and it's just unfortunate
that they didn't keep him in The cowboys.
Speaker 1 (57:14):
Organization, yeah, yeah but that's why they're trying to make this.
Speaker 2 (57:20):
Young developmental guy that can, develop not just this, year
but they have him for three.
Speaker 6 (57:27):
Years.
Speaker 1 (57:28):
Yeah and his money is not what it once, was right,
Like so with him being a later round, pick not that,
leg but late enough that to his money is not as,
high he's going to get a chance to.
Speaker 3 (57:42):
Develop and if.
Speaker 1 (57:44):
They can use him in this system, properly it changes
the whole perspective in the narrative of his ability to
be exciting as that type of player and.
Speaker 2 (57:56):
The running back, room the rating is going to go
about to do things that the combination of the young
backs are gonna be just as important as the.
Speaker 6 (58:08):
Veteran backs that they have and brought.
Speaker 3 (58:10):
In, yeah is there anybody? Else?
Speaker 1 (58:13):
Now obviously The cowboys aren't gonna be able to do
a lot of moves that because of the, offseason BUT
i mean because we're getting ready to get into the.
Season there's a lot of not a lot of players
that are, available but The cowboys continue to try to
upgrade in certain. Positions, now, HONESTLY i don't think that
they're gonna be able to make another move in THE.
(58:35):
NFL i mean in the running back. Department but is
there any other piece that you feel like The cowboys
need to go out and GET i.
Speaker 2 (58:44):
DON'T i think that they brought in and fixed all the.
Heels you always can need depth at, corner you always
need depth at defensive. End but they fixed those that
they drafted very well at defensive. End and to the
point of the fact that now they're saying that they're
(59:04):
gonna have to like think about putting the rookie on
the field as a, starter and how does that. Work
that Means Michael parson is going to be in on
the other, side and they're gonna have, to you, know
find out who can play linebacker or put him at linebacker.
Speaker 6 (59:23):
As well as Leaving Michael parsons where he.
Speaker 2 (59:27):
Is SO i, mean when you start thinking about how
we can adjust our superstar with a new, player that
means that he's pretty.
Speaker 1 (59:35):
Damn, good right, Right and so we will we will
see how this all. Goes but The cowboys are the
hot topic, today and the only reason why they are
the hot topic today is because of the expectations that
not only us as fans continue to put on as
we're Obviously cowboy, fans but you also look at what
(59:58):
THE nfl expect for. Them we talked about the cheerleaders
and how they're getting a pay. Bump we also talk
about How Jerry jones and his story will be played
out coming up In august with The Dallas cowboys story
about the man and his. Money but of, course the
highest paid player in the game is the starting. Quarterback
(01:00:19):
so heavy is the crown that is being bestowed upon?
Speaker 3 (01:00:23):
You isn't.
Speaker 2 (01:00:23):
IT i Think dak is going to handle everything very.
Well he always. DOES i, mean he's such a class.
Act and if he's healthy hard like you, said it changes, everything.
Speaker 3 (01:00:40):
Changes everything something that doesn't. Change that's eight.
Speaker 1 (01:00:43):
Thirty four and that means that the world strongest man
is about to bring you his world's strongest take right
here on the morning kickoff On Sports RADIO am thirteen
Hundred The zone coming. Up in the next, segment we
have our god Kept cardello trying to break down. Twelve
we're gonna get right into, it but we're gonna go
right down to the W We hall Of famer and
(01:01:05):
the World's Strongest Mandeve.
Speaker 3 (01:01:07):
Mark henry as he brings you his world's strongest.
Speaker 1 (01:01:10):
Take take it, away big, fella.
Speaker 6 (01:01:18):
Arch, yep you know what time it. Is it's time
for you to get on.
Speaker 2 (01:01:24):
Camera it's time for the world's strongest take by the
world's strongest, Man.
Speaker 6 (01:01:36):
Marcus back then they didn't know. Me Now i'm. Hot
they all on me.
Speaker 2 (01:01:42):
Today my take is my, team The Los angeles like
uh uh and what they are doing to further their championship.
Possibilities now we know that they during the end of the,
(01:02:02):
season they made a move and got had had a
trade For Anthony davis For Luca Luca, donnage and that
didn't really manifest itself the way everybody. Thought everybody thought With,
Lebron james And luca that they were going to make
a run for the.
Speaker 6 (01:02:22):
CHAMPIONSHIPS i was one of those.
Speaker 2 (01:02:24):
People they made a run at one, time a seventeen
games in a, row And i'm, like, wow this is
this is, exciting but they couldn't stop a running THOSE i,
mean it was the worst defense that The lakers have
had in.
Speaker 6 (01:02:42):
Years one of the things.
Speaker 2 (01:02:47):
That they thought that would fix The lakers after this
season was over was adding a. Center they tried to
add a center and the guy failed the physical. Hards
so The lakers this offseason said that they were actively
the number one thing that they were doing was actively
(01:03:09):
looking for who would be the senate that they can
bring in and give The lakers that extra. Step And
Nick claxton is the defensive presence that they they're. Targeting,
also as far as recent When Christaff porsingka's was, traded
(01:03:33):
now is being said that The lakers also.
Speaker 6 (01:03:37):
Looking into making that.
Speaker 2 (01:03:38):
Trade because what happened yesterday was they made an offer
To Austin, reeves And Austin reeves declined that, offer and
it's going to be a unrestricted free agent next, Year
so now The lakers either will have to convince him
to take a pay, cut which he wants around thirty
(01:04:00):
mill a.
Speaker 6 (01:04:01):
Year, right The lakers are not wanting to.
Speaker 2 (01:04:04):
Pay, that so they would rather trade and get trade
value so they could get A Nick, klaxon they could
get A Chris staff for.
Speaker 6 (01:04:12):
Singers they also reached.
Speaker 2 (01:04:15):
Out To miami About Andrew wiggins to play small forward power.
Forward who we know That Andrew wiggins is an awesome,
player AND i don't know If i'm being willing to
pay thirty million dollars For Andrew. Wiggins uh being at
his off the field issue or off the court issues
last year caused him to miss a bunch of games,
(01:04:39):
because uh mental. Health and that's that's the last thing
you want is to spend a lot of your lines
share money on a player and he just doesn't can't show.
Speaker 6 (01:04:52):
Up the other thing was this was not The lakers
don't have.
Speaker 2 (01:04:58):
Draft they traded away all their first round picks all
the way up.
Speaker 6 (01:05:02):
To twenty, nineteen twenty twenty, nine and they did make a. TRADE.
Uh in this.
Speaker 2 (01:05:12):
Draft they had the fifty fifth pick in THE Nba,
draft and they packaged this other second round picks so
they can move, up and they were able to make
that trade with The Brooklyn nets and they got guard.
Speaker 6 (01:05:29):
FORWARD i DO theo.
Speaker 2 (01:05:34):
And his was one of the top defensive players in college.
Basketball six,' six two hundred and twenty. Pounds guard that's
it's a. Big dude he's also played. Small forward and
they're also considering trying to do something. That hards, You
know i'm all for at nine, MILLION dollars i think it's.
(01:05:57):
A deal i would have had a couple of millions
for them the doubt For the lakers to make a
Deal With OKLAHOMA city uh to Bring in caruso and
bring him back home To the lakers to give them
another defensive presence, at guard because that's SOMETHING that i
(01:06:18):
feel like they really.
Speaker 6 (01:06:19):
Really need what, Say, you.
Speaker 1 (01:06:23):
Well, you know at WHAT point i was trying to
ride With, the lakers AND then i decided that wasn't
gonna be good for me or, my HOUSEHOLDS so i
decided to go back away. From that the one QUESTION
that i do have, for you what are you going
to Do With.
Speaker 3 (01:06:39):
Dalton connect what is the Plan?
Speaker 1 (01:06:42):
For connect because he is somebody that originally we thought
that he was going to be an integral part of
what was going. To happen they tried to. Trade him
his emotions got in the way when he came back
because he couldn't Go. To charlotte now he's. In limbo
he didn't even play. The time well he had the boo.
Boo phase you, outed yes and, now okay we're getting
(01:07:06):
ready to start The The.
Speaker 3 (01:07:08):
Vegas league is he.
Speaker 1 (01:07:10):
Gonna go out there and try to play to put
up some more tape because he has no tape, now.
Speaker 6 (01:07:15):
Right we got to see what's. Gonna happen but hard.
This is this is SOMETHING that i feel Like the
longhorned nation.
Speaker 2 (01:07:21):
Would love is the fact that Yesterday The Los angeles
lakers also signed On the columba From the University Of.
Texas longhorns this this And and columba is uh, a defensive,
small forward powerful type guy in the same Mold OF
vanderbilt Uh And Duran, finney smith Which During. Phinney smith
(01:07:46):
he may be in trade bay, now Too because uh
he wants to pay raise Just Like austin. Reeves does
so you trade away, THOSE, assets uh so you can acquire, more,
assets uh preferly a center that can help.
Speaker 6 (01:08:01):
You defensively and now.
Speaker 2 (01:08:04):
You have they brought in two other Guys in Kalomba
and theiro to play the Positions, Of Duran phinnis Smith.
And vanderbilt so they're going to. Get that, you know
the money will. Help them and you got To surround
luca with strong defensive players because he's not the best
(01:08:24):
defensive player in. The league EVEN though i love the
Fact that luca's lost sixteen pen so that's encouraging for
the advancement Of.
Speaker 1 (01:08:39):
The, lakers well Whatever The dallas mavericks did to get
Rid of luca and now putting him in a position
to where he needed to go to the next level
of getting, in shape it has motivated him to. That
point another great opportunity for us to have the world's
strongest man bringing us the world strong As take coming,
(01:09:01):
up next we're gonna find Out If texas state is
headed TO the pac twelve and, if so. How soon
Our Guy kep cardello is going to tell us immediately
and close out the show right here on the morning
Kickoff On SPORTS radio am thirteen hundred.
Speaker 6 (01:09:17):
The zone if.
Speaker 1 (01:09:18):
You missed any part of, the show all you gotta
do is get over to the podcast page wherever you get,
your podcasts preferably On the. iHeartRadio app but let's get right.
Into it and a lot of news is coming out
That The Texas state bobcaps are ready to make that
move TO the. Pac twelve let's get right. Into it
Our Man keV cardello is going to break.
Speaker 3 (01:09:40):
It down kef what's. The, latest, oh no. You're muted.
Speaker 8 (01:09:48):
There, we, Go i'muted sorry, about. That, fellas hey great
to be back on talking. About, this Yeah the bobcats bags.
Are packed they are going To the. West coast they
have the invitation. In hand they've Scheduled A border regents Meeting,
for monday and once everybody formally votes on it and
they officially, accept it they'll make the. Big announcement but it's.
(01:10:09):
Going down bobcats are going to be the eighth member
OF the. Pac twelve so.
Speaker 1 (01:10:12):
Let me ask, you this and this is the craziest part.
About it why do we have to have a board
meeting if we knew that this was going to, Be
happening why haven't they already cast? Their votes so it'll
be immediate and, everybody's like let's do.
Speaker 8 (01:10:24):
This right it seems like we've been talking about it.
Last summer i've been on here a few times to talk,
about this but it needed to have a formal invitation
FROM the pac twelve and now once everything shakes Down,
on monday we'll get all the answers From The texas.
State administrators but it really seems like it's just been
a game, of negotiation maybe a little bit of chicken
(01:10:45):
at the negotiation table going on BETWEEN the pac Twelve And.
Texas state seemed LIKE the pac twelve didn't want To
Give texas state a full share on that media. Rights
deal they wanted to give them maybe a. Three fours
it's unclear at this time what was, being offered but
it's like that was that was holding up the, two
Sides And texas state was motivated to get the deal
Done before july first Because on, july first their exit
(01:11:08):
feet From the sundalt conference where they currently are it
would double from five million to, Ten million so they
save about five million dollars if they can get this
deal Done, By MONDAY so i know they were. Motivated
there it'll be interesting to find Out on monday or
maybe even this weekend before it. All happens How Much
texas state Is getting are they getting that? Full share
are they getting a? Partial SHARE but i think that's
(01:11:28):
going to be a. Big factor but both sides were
motivated to get, it done and it's.
Speaker 6 (01:11:32):
Getting done so let.
Speaker 1 (01:11:33):
Me ask, you this because the deadlines are what. They
are the first is the day goes back to. Our
point why are we? Waiting on why can't we just do?
It today why didn't you just set a special, council
today have the meeting, be done get all the, paperwork
done and you're not waiting until that.
Speaker 3 (01:11:49):
Final, Hour hey i'm. WITH you i wish it was already.
DONE too i.
Speaker 8 (01:11:53):
Know it they had, the schools they have to go
up the chain of command and do all the formal
voting and make sure everyone's on the. Same page and
also whenever they call a board meeting and they have
to wait seventy TWO at sb seventy two hours in
advance before they can actually have, the meeting so that
would Be on monday from, this day and when they
didn't have any the deal wasn't officially, agreed upon and
the invitation wasn't fully given until seemingly, last night so
(01:12:16):
that's that's why we're seeing it pushed Back until monday to.
Be OFFICIAL but, i mean we're just waiting for the
word it's going it's going to go up against. THE
board a lot of people are assuming it's going to
be a unanimous vote to Have the bobcats go TO the.
Speaker 3 (01:12:28):
Pac, twelve okay and let me ask you this TOO.
Speaker 1 (01:12:30):
ABOUT utsa i saw some REPORTS that utsa might have
been into conversations, as well and you guys might be doing.
Speaker 8 (01:12:37):
This together what's the latest on. That, CONVERSATION, yeah utsa.
They haven't they haven't been given a. FORMAL offer i.
Know this TULANE and usf FROM the aac have been
given a, formal OFFER but utsa has been a team
that's talked about that they haven't quite received.
Speaker 3 (01:12:55):
One yet the exit fees FOR the aac are.
Speaker 8 (01:12:58):
Exuberant and, twenty million maybe twenty, five million, pretty high.
Pretty high exit Feed For texas state For the sunbelt's
only going to be, five million so it's a little
bit of an easier transition.
Speaker 6 (01:13:08):
To SCHOOL.
Speaker 8 (01:13:08):
Like utsa we've seen a lot, coach trailer the football.
Coach there they've made quite a bit in the media
about how they need to have more funding for their
facilities and they need, more money so it really seems
like that would block them. From there, ME personally i
think it would be great TO have Utsa And texas
state in the. Same conference there's no love lost between
those two fan bases and at the pretty big Market
(01:13:30):
With san antonio. As well SO the, pac twelve they're
definitely going to add a. Ninth member it seems like
a non just a. Football member the other sports they'll
remain in. Another conference some people Are, thinking memphis but.
Who knows it's going to be that ninth member should
come down really soon too in the next. Couple weeks
make sure You follow keV At.
Speaker 1 (01:13:49):
Caf underscore see he is the host and the creator
or Of win now or. Get bit he keeps you
up to date on everything that's. Going on with that
being said and every that is trying to get TO the.
Speaker 6 (01:14:03):
PAC.
Speaker 1 (01:14:03):
Twelve Gj, kenny obviously he's been a guy that everybody's
talking about and now you guys are going to, a major.
Major conference not saying anything Against. The sunbelt sunbelt is The.
Fun belt we've had a lot of good times, with
that but NOW. With, gj kenny his marketability is going
to be even, more expanded especially with THE new tv
(01:14:24):
deal that you guys are going to be a.
Speaker 3 (01:14:26):
Part of when it comes TO the, pac twelve oh.
Speaker 8 (01:14:29):
No doubt this elevates the Brand Of texas state And The.
Sun belt it's been a great conference For, the bobcats
especially as they TRANSITION to fbs around. Twenty twelve it's
Definitely been it's served. Its purpose but The Way, texas
state the way it's shaken out with realignment and the
Location Of san marcos right In between Austin And, san
antonio forty thousand Students At. Texas state they've recently upgraded
(01:14:50):
all their facilities from football to straight. Hand arena they
have a great baseball facility as well that they just
separated themse elves from some of these other these. G
fives even though they haven't quite had the success of
football at, some schools even LIKE, a utsa but. They
have they are just in the right place at the.
Right time, and yeah it's GONNA. Elevate gj. KENNEY absolutely
(01:15:13):
i mean a lot of people already know his name
around Here in texas and once you start reaching out
To The west coast. AND everything i think people are
really going to see what his offense. Is about he's a,
young coach he's thirty six, years old and he's done
quite a lot in his short Time At texas state
and move into a. Bigger, conference yeah it's just gonna
it's gonna get more eyes, on him which is a
good and a bad thing if You're A tech, state
(01:15:35):
fan because more eyes means more people are gonna recognize
what a good coach there Is In san marc's and
they might try to pay him more. To leave so
it's a it's a bit of a double, edged SWORD
but i think that's a that's a Risk all bobcats
are willing. To.
Speaker 2 (01:15:47):
Take well with more money and, MORE recognition i doubt
that they'll try to take him away because they'll they'll
be able to pay him, to stay but also he'll
have more money for recruiting and bringing in players under this.
Speaker 6 (01:16:03):
New regime do you think that.
Speaker 2 (01:16:08):
What they're going to acquire and funds is fair for
them or do you feel like that they're jumping at
the first.
Speaker 6 (01:16:16):
Big.
Speaker 8 (01:16:16):
BIKE no i think actually they're doing a great job of,
holding out even back during, the Season The mountain west.
Came calling, and now just to give it a layd
out a, little Bit The sun belt each team with
their media, rights deal they get just under two million
dollars a year if during. The season if the, last
season If the bobcats had jumped To The, mountain west
they would.
Speaker 3 (01:16:36):
Have doubled that to.
Speaker 8 (01:16:37):
Four million but they knew if they held out For
the pac twelve they could be looking at ten eleven
twelve million, a year which is quite a. Bit more
and so they could have jumped at the first one
that would have Been The mountain West around September. Or
october whenever that offer, went down they. Held out they
held out for a. LONG time, i mean these rumors
have been rumbling since, last summer started to pick up
(01:16:58):
speed during, the season is it a little bit during,
the spring and then they ramped up real Hard after,
june first when it SEEMED like unlv was no longer
the prime candidate.
Speaker 3 (01:17:08):
For them that's, All esoight oh, Go, ahead no, that's.
Speaker 1 (01:17:11):
Awesome man i'm glad that we got a chance to
get you on before this deadline was going. TO hit
i understand now the seventy two, hour deal but this
is something that should have been done a long, time
ago so you could have been popping Bottles on friday
instead of Waiting. Till monday, but nonetheless your bobcats are
headed TO the pac twelve and obviously we're gonna continue
(01:17:32):
our conversation.
Speaker 4 (01:17:33):
With.
