Today is "Turn the Page Tuesday," as the Texas Longhorns turn the page from the Arkansas Razorbacks and move on to Friday's rivalry game to play the #3-ranked Texas A&M Aggies at Darrell K Royal Memorial Stadium. Texas Head Coach Steve Sarkisian discussed Arch Manning's development and keying on third downs. The Longhorns' Men's Basketball team went down to the Arizona State Sun Devils in Maui last night, 87-86, after a late three-point shot by the Sun Devils. They are going to play the Chaminade Silverswords tonight. Should the NFL be more adamant about player field antics? We share our thoughts. The Texas Volleyball team moves on to the SEC championship after beating the Aggies 3 sets to 1, and now moves on to play the Kentucky Wildcats. "The World's Strongest Take!" Plus, we have Joe Cook of Inside Texas to talk Longhorns' football, Billy Lucci of Texas Ags to talk about the Aggies, and The Voice of the Houston Texans, Marc Vandermeer, after the Texans' victory over the Buffalo Bills and the upcoming battle against the Indianapolis Colts. You can hear it all here on "The Morning Kickoff Show!"

this is a big week for Texas football and coach
Shark met with the media. A couple of players did
as well, and they're not holding any punches about what

(02:30):
the expectations are for this team, and we've seen some
growth in a lot of positions.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
But coach Shark started it off with this.

Speaker 4 (02:39):
It's obviously great to be back at DKR this week
Thanksgiving week, and we'll get into that ball game in
a minute. Just a couple of things to recap last
week's ball game to kind of highlight. I really thought
that your situationally, we did some nice things in the
game from a complimentary football standpoint. You think about, you know, defensively,

(03:01):
we've been harping on red zone defense and those first
two drives getting stops after a couple explosive plays, I
thought was big, and that created a fourteen to six
lead for us. I thought collectively as a team, you know,
we got to stop at the end of the second quarter.
We got a good rush on the punt, We forced
a kind of a shank punt, the offense got the ball.

(03:24):
We were able to get three points at the end
of the first half. Knowing we were going to get
the ball to start the second half, we're able to
lap them there and really those ten points were really
pretty critical in the game when you think about momentum.
I love the way we started offensively in the first half.
I love the way we came out and started again
there in the third quarter. So a lot of things
we've been trying to harp on and work on as

(03:45):
a team, I thought really showed up. And then naturally
the turnovers and I think we're plus ten on the
year now and our ability to create two more turnovers
and get fourteen points off of those things. And again,
not having a ballgame where you don't have any is
always a great sign for us, and so we're continuing

(04:06):
to do a good job of protecting it. We're gonna
to do that again this week. As far as our
fans go. What an awesome turnout, and we haven't had
many ops and so Longhorn Nation was fantastic over one
hundred and two thousand Saturday at two thirty, and you
could feel the energy in the stadium. It was loud
as exciting, and I know we're looking forward to them

(04:28):
again here Friday night for Senior Day as well as
obviously you know, hosting Texas A and M, and this
should be a great ballgame. You know, when you think
about this as one hundred and twentieth meeting between Texas
and Texas A and M and the Cotton Holdings Low
Star Showdown, and it's awesome. You know, it was great
to it was great to play them last year and

(04:49):
renewing the rivalry and going to Kyle Field, and now
to have A and M back here in DKR for
the first time since twenty ten, you know, fifteen years
ago was the last time they were here. I think
it's great for the right. I know our fans are
excited about it. I know I'm sure their fans are
excited about it, but I know our players are too.
It's a heck of a challenge. Just a really good
football team.

Speaker 5 (05:09):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (05:09):
And they're really good in all three phases.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
You know.

Speaker 4 (05:12):
Defensively that the numbers are are pretty startling. When you
look at the third down defense, the sacks, the tackles
for loss, you look at the the explosive playability that
they have on offense with Marcel Reid, the variety of runners,
and then obviously the receiving corps with Conceptsio and Craver
leading the way. But then they got a lot of

(05:32):
really good. You know, receivers that are making plays, the
tight ends are making plays. And then on special teams,
you know, they got electric return game with Busty and
CONCEPTSI on and kickoff and punt return. So a ton
of credit to A and M and the job they've
done to be undefeated up to this point.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
I think.

Speaker 4 (05:46):
I think coach Elko has done a fantastic job. Got
a ton of respect for him and the way he's
built that program. So but that creates opportunity for us,
and it would wouldn't want it any other way. Uh,
then to have this ball game at home, Like I said,
Friday night after Thanksgiving, I can remember being a kid
in California watching this game. You know, it was the

(06:09):
only game on on Thanksgiving, and to be part of
it is pretty special.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
And it was.

Speaker 4 (06:14):
Special a year ago, especially again this year. I don't
I don't take games like this lightly. So, like I said,
we got some work to do. Obviously a little bit
more of a challenging week with it being a short week.
So we've got to be really efficient with our preparation
and our time, uh not only in the meetia room,
but on the practice field to make sure that we're

(06:35):
mentally and physically ready to play to put our best
foot forward against you know, a time.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
And one of the things about this Texas, Yeah, no doubt,
it's a tough opponent the way that they've been playing
all season, along the way that they're what they have
on the line. Being a perfect season for Texas A
and M never happened. Coach Sark said it'd be tough
for a team to go undefeated with SEC play the

(07:03):
way that things were shaped up, and here they are
on the cusp of that. And like I said yesterday,
both of these teams are playing or playing for a
lot of not just positioning. But if Texas can win
this game, that'll be three top three, top ten victories,
and the committee will have to make a tough decision.

Speaker 3 (07:26):
On Texas, very tough decision.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
If Texas A and M wins the game, then there's
no decision to be made. But if Texas A and
M were to win, it'll put a lot to their
case as well of where they think they should be
ranked going into this deal.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
You think that if they beat Texas that they should
go to number one over Ohio State.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
I'm not saying they should go to number one, but
when you look at the body of work of what
they've done and the teams that they have beaten, there's
a case for it.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
Not only that.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
You can look at Marcel Reid depending on how he
plays as a true Heisman Trophy candidate.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
I mean, there's a lot on this game for both teams.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
Right Texas wins, Texas goes in the top twelve, like
they have to. Like, it's not only the three top
ten wins, but the fact that they were able to
back to back bet two tough NCC teams that people
hold that high regard.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
Yeah, it's going to be something to behold because of
both of these teams. But one thing Texas has to
continue to do is play well and be key on
third down. And that's what Texas has done the last
couple of weeks. They've been moving the ball both offensively
but also stopping people and making them get off the
field on third down.

Speaker 3 (08:47):
They they've been giving up a few busts that plays. Though. Yeah, Like.

Speaker 4 (08:52):
As far as third down, Hey, there's a couple of
real factors that are that are problems. One, they got
a great ski team and coach Elko notorious for his
third down packages. You know, we've we've gone against each
other a few times now over the years, and every
year it's kinways the same scout and report of they're
really good on third down and and but to go

(09:15):
along with that, they've got really good players. You know,
they've got some elite pass rushers, they've got very instinctive
football smart players, so their presser pressure packages are good.
But then they've got people and players that can win
one on one matchups. And so the key to the drill. One,
we need to be sound in our schemes, but then two,
we're gonna have to win one on one battles and

(09:36):
and and that's you know when you when you get
into games like this, that's that's what they require.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
And what were you saying about them being able to
stop some people?

Speaker 2 (09:46):
Yeah, Texas, if if they can limit the big explosive
plays like they did against Arkansas early in the game,
they they broke away a big run, they break away
along past and granted the defense was able to hold,
but it's better to have them third and four, third

(10:08):
and eight. You know then that let let these big, giant.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
Long explosive plays happen. No doubt, no doubt.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
In Texas is you know, they're trying to minimize them.
You have that big play against Arkansas, they end up
shutting them down, so they they they understand what the
task is this week. But one of the things that
coach Sark talked about as well is Archer's development. When
you can see what a true dual threat guy is.
You know, I think it just varies.

Speaker 4 (10:38):
I don't I hate to throw a blanket over guys,
you know, I just think that, you know, it's whenever
the game starts to slow down a little bit for you,
whenever you get a little bit more comfortable getting your shirt,
your second, third, fourth reads in your progression when you
you know, when you when you start to really see
coverages and understand, wait a minute, I might have an

(11:00):
opportunity to run here predicated, and so your legs become
kind of that second or third option because of the coverage,
and then you tie that together with the down and
distance or where you're out on the field. I just
think the game slows down, and so when that happens
for anybody, I just think that's that varies by the player.
But I think it has for him, and he's you know,

(11:22):
I think he's done a really good job of even
his decision making. You know, he had a couple scrambles
the other night or the other day where I think
Arch early in the year puts his head down and
starts barreling forward and maybe gets two or three more yards.
And I thought he made some really good decisions on
first down plays where he ran out of bounce and
it was a one yard game, but he didn't take

(11:43):
that hit right. And so I just think it's growing up.
It's maturing and playing the position.

Speaker 1 (11:48):
And that's exactly what he's shown all year long, maturity
and growth. And now he gets a chance to do
it again against the Texas A and m fighting Aggie's.
We got a bit big, big day for you today.
Joe Cook of Inside Texas joins us at seven thirty four.

Speaker 3 (12:06):
Billy Luch of Texts Aggs.

Speaker 1 (12:09):
Talks about the Aggie's and Mark Vandermeir, the voice of
the Houston Texas. It's a big week around here, and
we'll continue those conversations right here on the morning kickoff
on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Welcome back
to the morning kickoff right here on Sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred The Zone. Coming up in the next segment,

(12:29):
we'll talk to our guy Joe Cook of Inside Texas
and on three dot com. Make sure that you check
that out because he'll give his thoughts on what he
heard yesterday. And of course previewing the Texas Texas A
and M game Billy Lucci of Textags at eight o'clock
and of course we will have the Voice of the
Houston Texans, Mark Vandermir one hour from now. But today

(12:54):
is your opportunity to get over to the Dell Diamond.
That's right, If you can get to the dal Diamond today,
you can have a public viewing from eight to six
pm of the world renowned Budweiser Clydesdale's As they're making
their way into town this week. They'll be here all
week long. They will be at the Deal Diamond today

(13:15):
from eight to six. Tomorrow they will be at the
HEB Center at Cedar Park, full hit show, you get
to see everything from four to seven. Then on Thursday
they're back at the Dell Diamond from eight to six,
and Friday they are at DKR Texas Memorial Stadium, full
hit show and parade starting at one o'clock right before

(13:38):
the UT and Texas A and M game, and if
you don't get a chance to see them by then
by Saturday you can go to the HB in Leander
off of Ronald Reagan Boulevard from two to four. The
Clydesdales are in town. Budweiser and Heuser Busch and of
course Brown Distributing Company with it all. And if you've

(13:59):
never seen Thesdale's, you are definitely missing out. Those are
some beautiful, beautiful animals for sure. All right, I want
to get into the rivalries of this week mark because
this is the time that everybody from whatever state you're in,
whatever your state is, you are at that point where

(14:19):
you are ready to fight, ready to get after it
because you do not do not like anybody anybody with
everything on the line. It's your spit cup week, your
Earl Campbell's spit cup. This is Texas, A and M
coming to Austin.

Speaker 3 (14:36):
You don't know the.

Speaker 1 (14:37):
Many hate and it starts on Friday.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
That's right.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
All the games you looking for will start on Friday.
As far as hate Week, now, obviously we got some
games tonight. You got Western Michigan versus Eastern Michigan. They
don't know, hey, they hate each other. They hate each other.
We don't know it because we don't live in Michigan.

Speaker 3 (15:04):
We don't know nothing about that, So that might be
what is going on.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
But you got number six Old miss going up against
Mississippi State, Old missus six and a half point favorite,
the Old miss they're dealing with the turmoil of their coach.

Speaker 3 (15:19):
Some people are reporting.

Speaker 1 (15:21):
He's already took the job at LSU and they're gonna
announce it after the Egg Bowl. They're gonna find out
all this stuff.

Speaker 3 (15:28):
Gowne.

Speaker 1 (15:29):
That game has a lot of bearing on it because
Old Missus number six rank. We'll find out more tonight
when a college football ranking show comes out and let
you know where everybody is.

Speaker 3 (15:40):
But that is a big time match up.

Speaker 1 (15:42):
You also got Georgia, the number fourteen, taking on Georgia Tech.
Georgia Tech upset, not happy about what's going on. They
took that l and Georgia is playing for a chance
to be in the SEC Championship game. Plus they're ranking
in the college football playoffs, so you have that. Obviously,

(16:03):
you got the Texas and Texas A and M matchup
that will be at six point thirty Texas A and
M A two and a half point favorite Texas coming
off their big win against Arkansas and Texas A and
M blowing out sam Port, not fred g Samford, Samford,

(16:24):
so they are out of there. Then you have on Saturday,
You've got Ohio State Michigan eleven am kickoff. Ohio State
number one team in the land, Michigan trying to punch
through it.

Speaker 3 (16:36):
Michigan has owned.

Speaker 1 (16:38):
Ohio State over the last four years, so this is
something that Ryan Day needs this game.

Speaker 3 (16:44):
He needs it.

Speaker 1 (16:44):
They're the number one team in the land. They're gonna
be there, but they need this game. And Ohio State
is a nine and a half point favorite. You've got
Kentucky in Louisville, the Battle of the Bluegrass State. These
are two teams that I guess they hate each other,
but that would be underachieving a little bit for both

(17:05):
of these teams. I would say Kentucky didn't have the
year that they wanted. Louisville was in the hunt, but
now they're not. They're not even ranked at this point,
so yes, they do hate each other.

Speaker 3 (17:17):
Clemson South Carolina, you have that matchup.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
Dia bol Swaining and Ken Beemer get a victory because
he has been struggling, especially after that debacle against Texas
A and M. You have Colorado and k State. Don't
see that one as much of a rivalry. Colorado's just
trying to find a way to get a win. You
got Iowa State and Oklahoma State. Noah, I don't consider

(17:42):
that one either. You got UCF and b YU. Nope,
don't consider that one either. But there are other games.
Boston College at Syracuse, Syracuse. I don't know what they
need to do. Let me tell you this.

Speaker 3 (17:55):
Did they just give up? They ain't got injuries like
what happened?

Speaker 1 (17:59):
They got beat down. That's all you can say about that.
Got to be we gotta take it to the woodshed.
There's nothing we can say about it. They were hitting
on all cylinders, is what he said. So he has
to deal with that. I did see this. Tickets at
this game, Boston College at Syracuse three dollars you could

(18:26):
get into the game.

Speaker 3 (18:28):
You did not just say three dollars.

Speaker 1 (18:30):
I went to a basketball game yesterday and the student
entry was four dollars. Wow, so you gotta figure that out.
My daughter got in the game yesterday for four dollars.
You could go to a college game for three dollars.
The end of season, because you know why they're playing
Boston College. Boston College with Bill O'Brien. This is where

(18:54):
did you call those games? What do you call them?
The trumpor the ones that don't even the BISMO records
or whatever they are. Yeah, that's what they are dealing
with there. You also got Oklahoma hosting LSU. I believe
you're gonna be at that ballgame, correct, Yeah, I'll be
at the game.

Speaker 6 (19:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
LSU comes to Norman to take on the number eight
ranked team, the Oklahoma So you can.

Speaker 3 (19:20):
Get into that game for twenty nine dollars.

Speaker 1 (19:22):
So still a bargain to get into Norman Vanderbilt number fourteen,
Tennessee number twenty the Battle of Tennessee Nashville versus Knoxville.

Speaker 3 (19:35):
We'll see how that ends. Missouri at Arkansas.

Speaker 1 (19:39):
Can Arkansas win the final game of the season. If
you want to see that game, all you need is
eight dollars to get into that one.

Speaker 2 (19:47):
Well, they lost their quarterback, but that young quarterback that
came in the feeling was pretty good.

Speaker 1 (19:53):
Yeah, pretty good. I saw a lot of the future
in m Virginia Tech with their new coach. He's not
to be coaching, but they did get their new coach,
James Franklin is their new coach. They will be taking
on Virginia. That game is in Charlottesville, so that will
be a big time battle. As you start to look there,

(20:13):
you have number ten Alabama at Auburn. Big matchup for
the Alabama Crimson Tide as they have to get this victory.
Ucla travels to USC about a ten minute drive. Travels
to USC number fifteenth ranked USC number twenty four ranked Charlotte.

(20:35):
I mean, Tulane has to go to Charlotte. And the
other big time matchup the Battle of Illinois Northwestern at
number twenty one, the Illinois fighting a lion on big
time matchups all weekend and then one game that just
I don't understand how these two schools continue to play

(20:56):
each other every year, Notre Dame in Stanford.

Speaker 3 (20:59):
I just don't don't understand what. I don't understand their matchup.

Speaker 5 (21:02):
I don't.

Speaker 3 (21:03):
I don't get it.

Speaker 2 (21:03):
Where they both independence at one time and that's kind
of the time. What's the time I think they have academics.
Maybe maybe that's what it is.

Speaker 1 (21:13):
I'm curious to what their history is that they have
to play each other every year. I just don't get it.
No Dame is going out there. They're at thirty two
and a half point favor.

Speaker 2 (21:25):
Out of all of those games that you just mentioned
as rivalry games, there's only one of importance. Yeah, and
that's Texas in Texas, A and.

Speaker 1 (21:34):
M one hundred percent if you're in the state, and
Auburn Alabama. If you're in the state of Texas, Auburn
and Alabama, it's just a fight.

Speaker 3 (21:43):
Oh miss and Mississippi State.

Speaker 1 (21:45):
Those are I mean it on where you live, depending
on where you live, but universally.

Speaker 3 (21:49):
It's all about Texas and Texas, A and M.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
Coming up next, we'll talk to our guy from Inside Texas.
Our got Joe Cook of Inside Texas and all three.
He joins us at seven point thirty four. Coming up
next on the Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred The Zone. Welcome back to the Morning Kickoff on
Sports Radio AM thirteen hundredth The Zone. It is Tuesday,

(22:13):
so we always go to our guy, Joe Cook of
Inside Texas. You can follow him at Joseph Cook eighty nine. Joe,
Texas comes off that big victory. The defense played okay,
it wasn't their best effort. But enough to get the victory,
and they did it without Anthony Hill Junior. What was

(22:34):
your takeaways from the Texas versus Arkansas matchup?

Speaker 7 (22:40):
Yeah, you know, Arkansas was a team we knew had
good offense heading into this game. We knew that they
were going to put up some yards. The question was
whether they would put up points, and they did. But Texas,
and oddly enough, Bobby Petrino elected to, you know, go
for some three pointers instead us some six pointers. So
that put them a little bit in an odd spot.

(23:01):
And then the times that Texas made stops they were critical.
It was, you know, the punt block attempt that rushed
the Arkansas punter gets that bad punt gets you three
points before the half. You come out on the other side,
you score a touchdown. That's ten points right there. You go,
and you get an interception with with Jelani McDonald, you

(23:22):
go and swore a touchdown. There you go, and you
know you have Leongola foul recover a fumble force by
Colin Simmons. So Texas they the ball was moved on them,
but the ball when it wasn't, when it was stopped,
Texas turned that into points and that was critical, and
it also got to a point I thought where you know,
you look at it and it's fifty two twenty three

(23:43):
in the you know, in the fourth quarter, and Steve
Sarkson even said like, yeah, you know what, we cycled
some guys out for the short week, and that's why
Bo Barnes was playing. That's why they saw a few
more other backups. And yeah, you know, Arkansas got some yards,
got some points, but you.

Speaker 3 (23:58):
Know they the threat to lose that game wasn't ever there.

Speaker 7 (24:01):
So good job by Texas defense and being opportunistic.

Speaker 3 (24:06):
They need to be more steady.

Speaker 7 (24:09):
But if they're going to be opportunistic and Texas offense
rewards them, He'll live with that too.

Speaker 2 (24:14):
Colin Simmons showed up in a big way and hopefully
we'll be able to see him shine in this game
with the lights on him the most. Doesn't it pay
for a guy that is on the fringe of being
a guy that could be drafted in the top ten
in the NFL to show up on games like this?

Speaker 7 (24:34):
Yeah, this is especially against big time players. A and
M has a really good offensive line. I know Trey
Zone has been someone they've moved in and out between
center and left tackle based on a few different things.

Speaker 3 (24:46):
But this is this is a good team.

Speaker 7 (24:50):
This is a good blocking team, and it's it's not
only you know the scheme, but it's the players. So
if Colin Simmons shows up and starts making some plays
and doesn't met some flags, that's gonna be huge for him,
especially as you know, he goes into what's probably going
to be his last year in college next year, and
as even more teams start to pay attention to him.

Speaker 3 (25:12):
You know, you think that he would be a you know.

Speaker 7 (25:14):
Priority number one when you're starting your opposing game plan
if you're an offensive coordinator, and he probably is.

Speaker 3 (25:21):
And yet here we are.

Speaker 7 (25:22):
Still talking about a double jit digit SAT guy and
someone who just you know, greeks havoc every time he's
on the field.

Speaker 1 (25:28):
We're talking to Joe Cooko of Inside Texas make sure
you follow him at Joseph cook eighty nine and Joe
going back to the offensive side of the ball, Texas
ran the ball decent, didn't get you know, we didn't
never see those big wow plays, but they were effective.
They gave Arch time as well. That offensive line has
proven to get better and better as the weeks have

(25:51):
gone on with this new adjustment outlining the Georgia game.

Speaker 7 (25:57):
Yeah, it's it's been a pretty good past blocking line.
And you know, if Texas is just gonna lean into
the pass game like it has in various forms, whether
it's a deep passing game like we saw, or whether
it's a few different things with with screens and intermediate routes,
then they have to be good at pass blocking, and
that's been the case for the most part.

Speaker 3 (26:19):
You know, the jury is still out on the run game.

Speaker 7 (26:21):
You know, we saw it against Oklahoma and that's it,
and that was a spirited effort. You don't see teams
running on Oklahoma all that much this year, but that's
still again, like you mentioned, proves to be an outlier.
So you know, this this could be a defense where
you kind of go with another pass happy game plan again,
just because the run defense has just the A and

(26:44):
M run defense has been kind of up and down,
but it's been better of late. And texas best offense
so far has been with whatever arch Manning does with
his arms. So I wouldn't be surprised if you see
Texas really try to test a lot of these A
and M defensive backs and you know, try to get
the ball out, hopefully before any of those aggie pass
rushers catch the towel makes it to the quarterback.

Speaker 2 (27:06):
Joe, I'm gonna go back to the defense again. I
played at Kylein Simmons was responsible for. But the guy
ended up benefiting was Leono Lafou.

Speaker 3 (27:17):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (27:18):
He decided to take a little gift package to Beivo.

Speaker 3 (27:21):
Uh what did you think about that? No, I thought
that was funny.

Speaker 7 (27:25):
And you know, you if you've ever talked to or
heard from Leonga, he's he maybe from Hawaii, but man,
he's from a country.

Speaker 3 (27:32):
Part of Hawaii. Y know, I'm kind of curious if
if that's not maybe the first.

Speaker 7 (27:38):
Football he's he's tossed at a at a cow or
steer before, and I think Vivo took it in stride,
you know he uh, he's been prodded before, so I'm
sure that's not the worst thing, but it's probably a
little startling, like WHOA, I didn't I didn't expect for
this football to be here. Uh, but you know, he's
he's had an up and down past few games.

Speaker 3 (27:57):
He was really reliable last year.

Speaker 7 (28:00):
And you know, I think opponents started to figure that
if they were going to find a weak spot and
the defense would be him, and he's been picked on
at times.

Speaker 3 (28:08):
But for him to be in the right place to make.

Speaker 7 (28:09):
That play and then also to you know, go make
that have the opportunity to toss it up to Bevo,
I thought was pretty cool. As he's you know, he's
going to take on a big role whether Anthony Hill
plays or not.

Speaker 1 (28:20):
This Saturday, Joe, We've talked a lot this season about
Arch Manning and what he has become. He did something
that no other Texas quarterback has done in the history
of this university catch throw and receive a touchdown. You
just start to see that this young man is having
more fun and he seems to understand what this is

(28:44):
all about. It's been cool watching him grow right.

Speaker 7 (28:47):
Yeah, absolutely to where you know this this is a
weird year at the quarterback position. And I remember, I
think I talked about this with you guys or maybe
even on Inside Texas. Just when you think of all
the different quarterbacks that's started at the beginning of this
year and who the big time guys were. It was Arch,
it was Kate Klubnick, it was Lenora Sellers, DJ Lagway,

(29:08):
Garrett nuss Meyer. You know, there's still hype around Pavia,
but you know, of all those guys, arch is really
the one that's remained. Pavia has obviously say insurged, Marcel
Reid has done great things. But you know, of all
the players who were pretty hyped up this year as
part of a pretty a strong quarterback crop, Manning's been

(29:31):
the best and he was the one under the most
scrutiny and he may have gotten the most hype. You know,
it's a very he He's in an odd situation being
who he is, and yet he's delivered each time. And
I always go back to when you know, at the
beginning of the year, after that UTEP game, he was
so I don't want to say down on himself, but
he kept repeating himself.

Speaker 3 (29:51):
He's like, I have to get better. I have to
get better, because you know, he's a Manning.

Speaker 7 (29:55):
His family business is throwing the football, and he wasn't
doing it all that well. He did get better, and
he's gotten to a point where he's doing winning games
for Texas, not only with his arm now but with
his legs and even with his hands. So the maturation
he's had this year has been phenomenal to see and
Texas needs needs more of it to be the top

(30:16):
three team like Texas.

Speaker 3 (30:18):
A and M.

Speaker 1 (30:18):
Yeah, this is going to be one of the most
watched football games of the week just because of the
rivalry being what it is, Texas A and M coming
in undefeated and the number three ranked team in the
land in all not just the bragging rights, the potential
of what could happen if Texas wins and Texas A

(30:40):
and M loses.

Speaker 3 (30:41):
It's going to be straight chaos. I cannot wait for it.

Speaker 1 (30:45):
And as always, brother, we appreciate you taking the time.
Hope you and your family enjoyed Thanksgiving and get ready
for that big time matchup this Friday night.

Speaker 3 (30:55):
Appreciate you. Joe absolutely, guys, thanks Giving me all.

Speaker 1 (30:59):
Thank There is our guy Joe Cook of Inside Texas.
Make sure you follow him at Joseph Cook eighty nine.
Coming up next, Texas men's basketball tipped off in Maui
but came up a little bit short. We'll talk about
it right here on the morning kickoff on Sports Radio
AM thirteen hundred.

Speaker 8 (31:18):
The Zoe Dylan Swain will inbound for Texas eight point
six to go Longbonge Trail.

Speaker 3 (31:23):
Eighty seven eighty six.

Speaker 8 (31:24):
Inbound of the Pope, Jordan up the floor six seconds
five Pope bounce past Tremi Mark down the three, down
the two.

Speaker 3 (31:31):
He's gotta shoot yet the game's over.

Speaker 8 (31:37):
Arizonta State wins at eighty seven eighty six of Larbers's
took too long to get in the set first post
and then Tramo Mark spun around and lost his balance.
Tough way to lose it, Texas fall's eighty seven eighty six.
What is tough about losing this game is a chance

(31:59):
to make it a two possession game, couldn't converge. Then
a chance to make it a two possession game, miss
two free froze, Arizona State hits the free and then
the Longhorns have it get away. So with the loss,
the Long Orange Paul the four to two, and they

(32:20):
will play in the consolation bracket starting tomorrow night at
nine thirty Texas time. They'll take on the Silver Swords
of Shamanad. We'll be on the air at nine o'clock
with a tip off at nine thirty. Final story Here
to night from Maui. The Arizona State Sun Devils eighty

(32:41):
seven The Texas Long Horns eighty six.

Speaker 1 (32:44):
Tough loss go to Texas Longhorse. As you heard the
voice Craig Way, the voice of the Texas Longhorns, and
Eddie Orn Eddie Orson, and the fact too that you know,
Texas had plenty of opportunities to win that game, but
you can't let Maurice Odam of Arizona State go for

(33:05):
thirty six points and big time points in the matchup.

Speaker 3 (33:09):
Was everybody out of foul?

Speaker 1 (33:11):
He was well, he was sixteen of eighteen from the
free throw line, so possibly because they shot thirty six
free throws and Texas shot twenty seven free throws. Mark,
you talked about watching the beginning of this game and
watching a little bit of how the ball was being moved.
What was your takeaway?

Speaker 2 (33:29):
Well, I mean the beginning they did a good job
of screening and doing the dribble handoff game and making cuts.
But usually the big guys have been able to the
ones that have fought for position, and they didn't do
that well this game. When at the beginning of the
first quarter and a half that I watched before the

(33:50):
TV was watching me, yep, I woke up at one
point and Texas had like an eight point lead, and
I'm like, oh man, this game is over. It was
like three minutes left of four minutes, and a well
coached team like coach Miller's is rarely going to give

(34:14):
up a lead like that. But after watching the replay
this morning of that last quarter, just like Craig said
they had, Texas had two other opportunities to win the game.
All they had to do was hit two free throws
and then even if the even if they hit a three,
they still would be down by two. They still be

(34:37):
down by one. And now that you have to play
the foul game. They didn't get the opportunity to do
that because they were able to go down hit a
big shot and take a lead and force Texas to
have to go and score just two. Just draw foul,
get to the basket, whatever you need to do, and

(34:58):
they turn the ball up, the ball over in that situation,
and Craig said it best.

Speaker 3 (35:02):
You can't take too long getting into your set.

Speaker 1 (35:05):
I mean, Texas turned the ball over nineteen times and
only had ten assists, so that you can't that's not
winning formula for basketball. And they still should have won
the game because of some of the things that happened
but here's coach Sean Miller with his postgame talking about
Maurice Odam and how he went and got thirty six
on him.

Speaker 9 (35:24):
Well, I'd like to credit Arizona State. You know, I
think around that eight minute mark might have even been less.
We created an advantage eight ten points, maybe twelve points,
where you know, a lot of times you get into
the mid second half and you're down ten, you know,
it's easy to lose confidence, lose fight, get out of

(35:47):
maybe what they do well, and.

Speaker 3 (35:50):
They did just the opposite.

Speaker 9 (35:53):
They kept fighting, they made plays, They may plays on defense.
Some of our turnovers probably had as much to do
with it us as them, But I credit them for
fighting and making the game back to one possession. And
we also knew coming in the game that mo Owedam
is a terrific point guard. And I think there are

(36:14):
times in the game where we did a good job
on them. But look when a guy gets thirty six
on you and goes six to twelve from three, sixteen
of eighteen from the free throw line and it hits
the game winner, sometimes you got to tip your cap.
And he was terrific, too much for us to overcome.
And again I thought the key to the game is

(36:34):
that establishing the lead that we did, and I credit
Arizona State for fighting in getting a great win.

Speaker 1 (36:43):
All right, any question, as you heard from Craig Way,
that game tonight will be against Shamanad. Shamanad loses to
Washington State. Pregame will start at nine a clock, nine
o'clock pre game, and tip off will be at nine thirty.
I know it's a disappointing loss because now he said

(37:05):
you have to look at it and go into the
loser's bracket and the consolation Excuse me, it's.

Speaker 3 (37:11):
Not even I was about to say a.

Speaker 1 (37:13):
Straight consolation bracket, and now you have to go through that.
So Texas has their work cut out for them. It's
you know, sometimes when you lose games like that, you
would much rather be blown out than having to lose
a game that close and try to come back from that,
because you don't there's no rest for the weary.

Speaker 3 (37:34):
I don't know about that. I don't know about the
blowing out part.

Speaker 2 (37:37):
I think that you would rather not make the critical
mistakes that you that's what's going to hang on.

Speaker 3 (37:42):
Guys.

Speaker 1 (37:43):
They were up by ten, Yeah, they were up about ten.
So that's why I say, getting beat like that. You
know that you should have won that ball game. You
were up by ten.

Speaker 2 (37:53):
There were guys that didn't make shots because they didn't
stick to the formula. And that's what coach just gonna
really beat on them about, is the fact that, look,
we have a lead, let's play our game. Let's not
you know, go in the Steph caurry cross of the
mode and take two jump shots that because you want

(38:15):
to be the star, to be the closer. There's still
hero ball being played. There's a couple of guys. I
ain't pointing nobody out. I'm not, but I'm just saying,
you know who you are, like, stick to the formula
of your team and quit trying.

Speaker 3 (38:30):
To be the star.

Speaker 1 (38:32):
When we come back, we'll go to Texas and then
we'll make college station and talk to our guy, Billy
Lucci of textsags dot com. He'll break down what the
Agis have done all season long. Right here on the
morning Kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
Welcome back to our number two of the morning kickoff

(38:54):
right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone
and our number one.

Speaker 3 (38:58):
We got a chance to hear from coach sark As.

Speaker 1 (39:00):
He recapped the victory against Arkansas and previewed the Cotton
Holdings Long Stars showdown that will take place this Friday
at six point thirty. Big time matchup means we gotta
go big time, and we decide to go to college
station and go behind enemy lines with our guy, Billy
Lucci of TexAgs dot com. Billy, let's get right into it.

(39:25):
This is going to be the most watched college football game,
I believe of the weekend. There's so much that is
on the line for both of these teams. But Texas
A and M is riding high with a perfect record
as they head to DKR Texas Memorial Stadium this weekend.

Speaker 5 (39:45):
Yeah, this is there's so much on the line, guys, Like,
when you think about it, you've got undefeated record for
A and m undefeated regular season. I keep trying to
tell people around here to kind of dive into their
memory bank and try to remind themselves the last time
that happened. I think I was in college and that

(40:08):
was towards the end of the Southwest Conference. It didn't
feel quite as challenging as it does today.

Speaker 3 (40:13):
So there's that. There's the SEC.

Speaker 5 (40:16):
Title game, birth, and there's not been there. There's a
chance to win that thing. There's a chance at a
playoffs by potentially as high as I think if they
went out there, the two seeds in the playoffs and
you know, probably playing in New Orleans on New Year's
So there's so much out in front of him, and

(40:37):
there's a Heisman opportunity for Marcel Reid. I think his
path to get in there certainly has to involve beating
Texas in Austin and probably Alabama in Atlanta, and then
all of a sudden, you've got a QB that's beaten LSU, Texas,
Alabama and Notre Dame all in the same year. But again,

(40:58):
he's only halfway there towards that, towards having those skins
on the wall. So it's going to be there's a
ton to gain. And then, oh, by the way, there's
the whole rivalry aspects of it, and there's losing to
Texas last year. I don't think Texas did anything disrespectful.
Don't take this as soft because you guys, we all

(41:19):
come from the same era. I remember the Aggies dancing
on the logo at midfield at DKR back in like
ninety four, but Texas went and celebrated on A and
M's logo last year. If you're an athlete, you remember that.
So there's that whole revenge thing you want to get.
There's a lot of reasons you want to win this game.

(41:40):
I think the biggest one though, is, like you said, Mike,
this can to be one of the most watched rivalry,
the most watched game this weekend, and getting this rivalry back,
I think the whole country seeing what it's about because
both these games.

Speaker 6 (41:55):
Have carried a lot at stake in the last two years.

Speaker 3 (41:58):
The first two years.

Speaker 2 (42:00):
We got to share space in Atlanta for SEC media days.
Do you think, and I know you don't want to
think this way, but when Texas, when Texas beats A
and M, do you think that don't do it? Do
you think that the committee will have to put Texas

(42:23):
in the twelve even with three losses?

Speaker 5 (42:26):
Hmmm, that's a You know what's funny is I do
that the podcast with with my Longhorned sidekick Amanda, and
I picked A and M to get to the playoffs,
and she laughed out loud when I said it, but
she literally laughed because I picked him at nine and
three but that was my Actually, my preseason prediction was

(42:47):
Texas getting in.

Speaker 3 (42:48):
Obviously they had you.

Speaker 5 (42:50):
Preseason number one. I had A and M as the
fifth SEC team getting in at ninety three. I do
think there's a legit chance. I don't think they personally,
I don't think they will. You could make a strong.

Speaker 3 (43:06):
Taste that they should.

Speaker 5 (43:09):
Because of the wins if they win that game, because
of the wins, because OU's going They're not going to
lose to that l s U team right now. That
team looks like it's quit and and M's going that
you know that'd be Vandy. I don't see in that
case they may have to go over Vandy, right Yeah,

(43:31):
so I would I don't What I don't get would
be putting them in. The interesting one would be like
what about Notre Dame at ten and two? See, that's
where it gets trigger because you got the Miami Notre
Dame argument. But I'm sitting here going watching You know,

(43:52):
if you're watching the games, Notre Dame looks like one
of the best teams in the country right now.

Speaker 2 (43:56):
Yeah, good games. They look like that. They also played
Charman University.

Speaker 5 (44:04):
I'm with you on that. And that's the other thing
is like what about see Like, how do you go
a two loss BYU? How on earth could that stay
ahead of Texas. My other thing is this it along
those same lines, Mark, This is my problem with these
committee members. They don't seem to have the sense to

(44:28):
apply it. And that's why I don't think Texas would
get in. And I think they should if they beat
Ain't M. But the problem is like if A them
goes to the SEC title game at twelve and ho
and it's beaten Texas LSU on the road. When everyone
when they were number fifteen, everyone told me, Ain't the

(44:49):
one's going to win. They go be the top twenty
five Missouri team on the road, they go beat a
Notre Dame team on the road that's in the top ten,
and they don't play canns this, they don't play Kansas State,
they don't play Baylor, you know, they don't play UCF
or West Virginia. And if they lose the SEC title

(45:10):
game and Tech beats by U, there's a real chance
that A and M would drop from two or three
to five at twelve and one, and Texas Tech would
be at four, and the committee will say, well, we
value confort when your conference championship.

Speaker 6 (45:27):
It's just stupid.

Speaker 5 (45:28):
It makes no sense. And I think the people on
that committee, I just don't understand why they put a
bunch of athletic directors on there. I've been around them
my whole life. A lot of them I wouldn't trust,
you know, to do that. I wouldn't have any faith
in their ability to get that right.

Speaker 3 (45:48):
Some of them, they they're not watching the game.

Speaker 1 (45:53):
I wanted to get into this because I wanted to
talk about the football team.

Speaker 3 (45:58):
Marshall Reid. You brought him up about the highest.

Speaker 1 (46:00):
But the one thing that I've noticed about the squad
at Texas A and M is those wide receivers are dynamic.
Casey Conception, Home, Ashton Bethel Roman, Terry Bussey's been making
some plays here recently, and they're electric when they get
the ball in their hands.

Speaker 5 (46:21):
Yeah, no question. And look when they went out and
got there was so much you guys, you know he's
Central Texas guys. There was so much amongst the fans
because of the name that was associated with Michah Hudson,
because he was a five star recruit and when he
ended up going back to tack, everybody freaked out. When

(46:43):
they lost Nick Anderson to LSU, everybody freaked out. The
oft injured Nick Anderson, everybody freaked out. I kept saying
all summer, people weren't focusing enough on Casey Conceptcy Owned.

Speaker 3 (46:58):
And Mario Craver.

Speaker 5 (47:00):
I'm sitting there, going go watch the tape, and then
as soon as they got here this spring, it's all
anyone would talk about. And then you mentioned Ashton Bethel Roman.
He was another guy. He got off to a slower
start this year because it was kind of his first
year in that role. But those three guys are fast,
they're playmakers. I mean, Craver's been banged up the last

(47:21):
couple of weeks, so he'll be back healthy. They said
him last week he suited up and was trying to
go in the game, so he's ready to go. Those
three guys, you don't know which one it's going to be.
Oftentimes lately it's Bethel Roman because you know a lot
of times the focus of the of the coverage is
on number one and number seven. But I think Casey

(47:43):
Concepcion is as good a receiver as I've seen at
A and M outside of Mike Evans. Now he's not
going to go down. You know, you have Ryan Swope,
you have Christian Kirk, You've got you know, there's been
a ton of them in the last fifteen years alone.
But Casey. Had he come in as a freshman and

(48:05):
been like a three year guy, I think he would
have been mentioned up there top three at A and M.
He's so, he's so both he and Craver are so
explosive after the catch, those crossers, those crossers, and they'll
catch one at five yards, eight ten yards and turn
it into thirty five forty yards before you know.

Speaker 3 (48:27):
What hits you.

Speaker 5 (48:28):
And their competitive as hell too. That's the other thing,
whether it's going up and getting the ball, getting behind
the defense, or just they don't want to get tackled.
They fight for for every yard and I think they've
kind of set a tone for the entire offense to
do that.

Speaker 3 (48:43):
Billy, I want to let you go with this.

Speaker 1 (48:44):
That defense is going to be challenged by the Texas
offense playmakers all over the place, kind of like what
A and M has. Arch Manning's playing really well right now,
but Tori and York, this is a statement game for
him as well. He's been a guy that's been with
that program. For quite some times been making plays. This
could be one of those games like we talk about

(49:06):
for Colin Simmons. This could be one of those games
for Tory and Lord York.

Speaker 5 (49:11):
Excuse me, Yeah, well, it's funny you mentioned Colin Simmons too,
because I was about to say too, Cassius Howell. Ye,
they're in a battle for the sack lead in the SEC.
I think there are two of the three or four
best pass rushers in college football, and I'm not sure
who the.

Speaker 3 (49:26):
Other two are.

Speaker 5 (49:27):
Probably the guy in them saw last week Dylan Stewart,
but he hasn't been as productive as these two. So
Simmons Howell should be really fun to watch.

Speaker 3 (49:37):
Obviously.

Speaker 5 (49:37):
Arch marcel I said this week I see too many
Texas fans comparing him to the Heisman contenders and kind
of joking that he should. They're not joking, They're serious.
Arch is the most improved player one of He's one
of the most improved players in college football from start
of season till now, thank you. And as much as

(50:01):
I will not be rooting for him Friday, he's very
easy to root for. But what I said was, let's
just everyone went crazy when he was you know, well,
they get put too much hype on him. They put
too much hype on him. I felt like as much
of it was coming from Austin as the national media.
It's like, let him develop. What I think Friday is.

(50:25):
I think Friday is a preview of two and next
year's Heisman front runners, and I think that is fair,
Like now he's got the season of work under his
belt and you can see how good he's going to be,
and he's already you know, he's taking some huge strides
towards getting there. He's very dangerous on Friday. But I
think there's a preview in too and next year's Heisman favorites.

(50:48):
I think they'll both be and everybody's top five going
into next year, so it should be really fun. As
for Torrian, I don't know what the stats were, guys,
but I seem to remember Trey Wison and running for
about two hundred at Kyle Field last year and Texas
going up around or just over three hundred yards rushing.

Speaker 3 (51:10):
So I think probably.

Speaker 5 (51:12):
There's very few that would take this one as personally
as him and really that defensive front. To say, last
year we played these guys, they ran up and down
the field on us, So, yeah, I think Torrey and
York it's no secret that he has a little chip
on his shoulder, giant chip on his shoulder because Texas

(51:32):
I didn't offer him out of high school. But I
think the bigger chip should be just to pop in
that tape from last year and say, man, we can't
let that happen again, because I do think this game
is going to be one. At the line of scrimmage,
how does Texas O line play? How does A and
M's O line handle that Texas defensive front and ken

(51:54):
the Aggies continue to get after the quarterback and they're
like one to two in the entry and tackles for
lowsome sacks. Obviously, if you don't get to arch Manning,
it will be a long day. If you do, you
can take away, you know, out of those weapons. And
I think I make him look a little more like
early season Arch Manning rather than what he's been doing lately.

Speaker 1 (52:16):
As always, brother, we appreciate you taking the time. I
know it is a busy, busy week. We look forward
to seeing you this weekend and safe travels man, Happy Thanksgiving.

Speaker 5 (52:25):
All right, let me know where.

Speaker 6 (52:27):
That tailgates at.

Speaker 3 (52:28):
I'll see y'all.

Speaker 1 (52:29):
All right, man, Happy Thanksgiving brother, Hi, Happy see you guys.

Speaker 3 (52:33):
Appreciate you.

Speaker 1 (52:34):
There he is Billy Lucy of text ads dot Com.
Coming up next, we're going to transition to the NFL.
The Voice of the Texans, Mark VanderMeer, joins us, and
let's just say this is gonna be the week I've
been waiting for it right here on the morning kickoff
on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred the Zone. Well, you

(52:55):
know what day it is, this Tuesday, and we call
it a Texans Tuesday, as we are joined by the
Voice of the Houston Texans, our good friend Mark Van
Damer and Mark.

Speaker 3 (53:08):
On Thursday of last.

Speaker 1 (53:10):
Week, the Texans went out and handled their business against
the Buffalo Bills, who had a ton of fans in
the stands, but they ended up leaving with that.

Speaker 10 (53:22):
Al Yeah, beautiful Bill's mafia going home disappointed.

Speaker 3 (53:28):
I love it.

Speaker 10 (53:28):
And they circled this one on the calendar because you know,
it's warm in Houston relatively compared to Buffalo, of course,
and they don't have too many warm weather road trips,
so this is good to.

Speaker 6 (53:39):
See them go home disappointed.

Speaker 10 (53:40):
Always love that, and you know that's just a phenomena.
I see a lot in the NFL now because it's
so easy to trampper tickets digitally, so you're gonna get
a lot more.

Speaker 6 (53:48):
And you know, Cowboys have that.

Speaker 10 (53:50):
Every team has some of that going on. Some teams
travel real well. But they went home unhappy because the
Texans got eight sacks, beat the daylights out of Josh
Allen and went to six and five. It was a
real welcome site.

Speaker 3 (54:01):
Guys, Mark the kirk here us talking about him or something.

Speaker 6 (54:08):
Yeah, I know, I was thinking about that.

Speaker 10 (54:10):
He had a good game. He had an early drop
that we thought, oh my gosh, what's gonna happen tonight?
And then he starts going off and.

Speaker 6 (54:16):
Has his best game as a Texan and in the.

Speaker 10 (54:19):
Nick of time too, because it was all hands on
deck Offensively. Defensively they were outstanding, obviously, and in the
second half offensively they couldn't do anything. But in the
first half they did enough. You know, when they allowed
the kickoff return for a touchdown, you.

Speaker 6 (54:33):
Just thought, oh, is it going to be that kind
of night?

Speaker 10 (54:36):
But the offense bounced back in a two minute situation,
scoring a touchdown, not just the equalizing field goal, but
getting to go ahead touchdown. I thought that was huge
at the time, and they held on for the wins.

Speaker 1 (54:46):
So I wanted to ask you this because we need
to give a huge round of applause for what Davis
Mills has been able to do since he stepped in
for CJ.

Speaker 3 (54:54):
Stroud.

Speaker 1 (54:55):
I know he started a bunch of games in the league,
but CJ is the quarterback of this team. But being
able to step in and kind of right the ship,
so to speak.

Speaker 3 (55:05):
So until CJ.

Speaker 1 (55:07):
Is going to be able to go, I think Davis
Mill earns a huge round of applause.

Speaker 10 (55:13):
Well, there's no question, because look how many teams play
their backup quarterbacks they disappear. I know San Francisco did
a good job with Mac Jones. He's a former first
round draft choice in the same quarterback class twenty twenty
one as Davis Mills.

Speaker 3 (55:26):
Look what happen of the Ravens. They imploded.

Speaker 10 (55:28):
Now they're digging out of it very nicely with Lamar
Jackson back and the other guys who were hurt. But
I think Davis does deserve a lot of praise for this,
and so does Nick Cassario and Denico Ryans extending him
twice to make sure they had that insurance policy ready,
and now you get CJ coming back. Now was still
the protocol technically, but I believe they'll play on Sunday
against Indianapolis, and I think we all agree you reach

(55:50):
a higher ceiling offensively with CJ. Stroud, but he's got
to get the rust off if there is any very
quickly against the tough Colts team.

Speaker 1 (55:59):
Let me ask you this because I've been waiting for
this week to come around. You've talked about it, you
just mentioned it. The Colts are next on the hit list.
This is rivalry week in college football, but this is
rivalry Reek for you. In this matchup, the Texans going
to the Indianapolis Colts, who end up losing a hard
fought battle against the Kansas City Chiefs, so they are

(56:22):
going to be wired, as will the Houston Texans.

Speaker 6 (56:27):
Yeah, this is a.

Speaker 10 (56:28):
Team that makes my blood boil. I despise the Colts
in a healthy sports way, guys. I mean hate belongs
in sports, So it's okay, it's fun. I hate the
Horseshoe so much. Peyton Manning tormented us for years. He's
sixteen to two as a Colt against Houston. Robert Mathis
and Dwight Brainy on that carpet at the RCA Dome

(56:48):
just terrorizing the Texans.

Speaker 6 (56:50):
It was awful to watch for so long.

Speaker 3 (56:52):
And then you couldn't beat him.

Speaker 10 (56:53):
Dan Orrolaski has a win as a starting quarterback with
the Colts against a good Texans team in twenty eleven.
Matt Hasselbck beat the Texans in twenty fifteen on a
Thursday night when he had Montezuma's revenge. He couldn't even
get out of bed, but he got out of bed
long enough to beat the Texans.

Speaker 3 (57:09):
We have weird wins like that.

Speaker 10 (57:10):
Jacobin Prissett has done really well against the Texans as
a cult. I hate them. I will not rest until
they are completely buried by the Houston Texans in the
season series. And it's not even close right now. You
still have a lot of catching up to do. It's
been a lot better lately. Tamiko Ryans is three and
one against the Colts, and you got to hang out
of that winning record or improve on it rather and

(57:32):
go to four and one Sunday.

Speaker 3 (57:34):
Well, tell us how you really feel. Well. At least
we know the Calvary's coming. Pe Drew will be back
this week.

Speaker 6 (57:43):
Yeah, he should be back as well.

Speaker 10 (57:44):
Look, you know I can't make these medical declarations, but
he was practicing, so unless there's a setback, you would
expect them to be back.

Speaker 6 (57:51):
And I thought it was huge that he missed a
Buffalo game and they.

Speaker 10 (57:55):
Still play defense the way they do because I think
he would have been really handy in that game though
out Well, in this game, you gotta have Petrie because
you got to get after Jonathan Taylor.

Speaker 6 (58:04):
You face the second leading rusher in the league last.

Speaker 10 (58:07):
Week in James Cook. Now you have number one and
Jonathan Taylor, and it's time to get after him. You
did well against Derrick Henry, you did well against Christian McCaffrey.

Speaker 3 (58:15):
JK. Dobbins.

Speaker 10 (58:16):
You got to do well against Jonathan Taylor because I
think we all agreed that if you can slow him
down or hold him eighty or under, you can.

Speaker 3 (58:24):
Get after Daniel Jones. You can make Daniel.

Speaker 10 (58:26):
Jones supper with this front four and whoever else they
want to send after him.

Speaker 3 (58:30):
So you better get him.

Speaker 10 (58:31):
In second and third and long and get after the
quarterback because he looks more like the old Daniel Jones
when you get a lot of pressure on him.

Speaker 1 (58:39):
Yeah, and that's one of the things too that I
was thinking as well. So you're looking at your division.
You got the Indianapolis Colts sitting at eight and three,
Jacksonville Jaguars sitting at seven and four, in the Houston Texans,
winner of three straight, sitting at six and five.

Speaker 3 (58:54):
This game has more than just the.

Speaker 1 (58:58):
Hatred against the Colts, says a lot of bearing in
the AFC South.

Speaker 10 (59:03):
Well, there's no question the Colts were the darlings of
the league a few weeks ago. Now they've sort of
come down to earth a bit and they're two games
up on you. So that was a huge win to
get over Buffalo. And yes, I was rooting for the Chiefs,
as painful as that is for me on Sunday, because
it's all about the division. You got to aim for
the division if you can possibly get it.

Speaker 6 (59:24):
Well, you're two back and you play them twice.

Speaker 10 (59:26):
Now, the Jags are the fly in the ointment because
you split with them and they're a game up on you.
But you got to worry about them later. They will
play the Colts twice down the stretch, and you just
need all these AFC teams to lose for instance, I'll
be rooting and this is very rare for the Dallas
Cowboys on Thursday because they're playing the Chiefs and I
want the Chiefs to get dinged up before the Texans

(59:47):
take them on a week from Sunday. So there's gonna
be a lot of that kind of thing going on
in the stretch here. But that's what it is. You've
dug yourself a hole. Now you need help plus playing well,
and let's see if they can get it.

Speaker 3 (59:59):
That's what it's all.

Speaker 1 (01:00:00):
As always, we enjoyed the conversation. I knew I was
gonna get money from you today because I was looking
at the schedule and I said, oh, he's gonna be
fired up this week.

Speaker 3 (01:00:11):
So good.

Speaker 1 (01:00:11):
So I bet I wish the best this week as
you travel to Indianapolis, get some good food, get yourself ready,
and hopefully your Texans come back with that victory.

Speaker 6 (01:00:23):
Uh, it is on, guys, I can't wait.

Speaker 10 (01:00:25):
Happy thanks Giving to you guys and your family.

Speaker 1 (01:00:28):
Happy Thanksgiving to you as well. Enjoy the trip, appreciate
you all right.

Speaker 6 (01:00:33):
Thanks guys.

Speaker 1 (01:00:33):
There he is Mark vandermir the Voice of the Houston Texans.

Speaker 3 (01:00:37):
I knew it was gonna be live I didn't know
it was gonna be that live, but I definitely appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (01:00:43):
When we come back, we'll hear from the world's strongest man.
Is he gives you his world's strongest take. Right here
on the morning kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
the Zunk Shout out to Billy Lucy and shout out
to Mark Vandermer, the voice of the Houston Texans.

Speaker 3 (01:01:00):
But right now, you know what time it is.

Speaker 1 (01:01:01):
When you hear that beat drop, it can only mean
one thing. W w W Hall of Famer and World's
Strongest Man, Dean Mark Henry brings you his world's strongest take.

Speaker 3 (01:01:10):
Take it away, big fellow. Right, yes, you know what
I'm timing it. What time is it?

Speaker 2 (01:01:15):
It's time for the world's strongest take by the world's
strongest man.

Speaker 3 (01:01:22):
My guess back then they didn't know me. Now I'm hot,
they are all on me.

Speaker 2 (01:01:30):
I never thought it would come to this, guys, I
really never thought that it.

Speaker 3 (01:01:36):
Would come to this.

Speaker 2 (01:01:39):
Where I would agree with someone that I have a
love hate relationship with, that I love to hate them relationship,
and that's Stephen A.

Speaker 3 (01:01:54):
Smith.

Speaker 11 (01:01:55):
I thought it should have been a minimum of two
games minimum two games, and partially because of what happened
with Jalen Carter. You already saw what happened to the
season opener. You gave the punishment, and Jamar Chase did
what he did.

Speaker 3 (01:02:08):
Number one.

Speaker 11 (01:02:09):
Number two, he flat out lined on camera cameras rolling,
I never opened my mouth. I never did anything with
a straight face. So now where he has to realize
that anything you say is going to be questionable from
now on because you know, the cameras caught you and
you were telling a bold faced lie to the media
with the cameras roller. I never opened my mouth, and

(01:02:30):
clearly you spit right on him.

Speaker 3 (01:02:33):
It was clear and it was clearly.

Speaker 11 (01:02:35):
Intentional, and we all know that's one of the most
egregious things you could do to another human being. There's
no doubt about that. But the fact that he did
it was bad enough.

Speaker 3 (01:02:43):
The fact that he did it where there was President
said when you knew.

Speaker 11 (01:02:46):
Okay, there was a punishment that come down because you
can't be doing stuff like that.

Speaker 3 (01:02:49):
That's number two. Number three, you lied through your face.
You lied through your face.

Speaker 11 (01:02:53):
Then he give faced about five hundred and seven thousand
dollars a game.

Speaker 3 (01:02:56):
You should double that up. It should be a cool
million plugs exactly. That ain't much.

Speaker 11 (01:03:02):
That ain't much, But you know what, they'll tell you
some million dollars a miny'll find it should have been
at least a million dollars. He should be suspended for
two games. And to me, I think the NFL dropped
the ball. Well, the NFL is doing a lot more
than that.

Speaker 2 (01:03:15):
They they're establishing the fact that they're not being tough
on situations.

Speaker 3 (01:03:22):
And there are a lot.

Speaker 2 (01:03:23):
Of pearents that see all of the stuff that's going
on and they're gonna not let their kids watch. And
the sponsors are not gonna like that very much because
they pay millions they'f not billions of dollars to have
their company.

Speaker 3 (01:03:41):
Marketed by the NFL brand.

Speaker 2 (01:03:44):
And you can start with Jalen Carter with him and
his spitting incident on Dak Prescott at the beginning of
the season, and you can.

Speaker 3 (01:03:54):
Get to the fact that we had that issue with.

Speaker 2 (01:04:01):
Jamar Chase lying saying he didn't do something when he did.

Speaker 3 (01:04:06):
And then last night in the San Francisco U.

Speaker 2 (01:04:11):
Carolina game at the end of the game, you saw
the squirmish Juan Jennings, the wide receiver for the San
Francisco for the nine Ers, got a low blow by
Trayvon Morrick. I mean just punched him. And these are

(01:04:31):
gregious things.

Speaker 3 (01:04:32):
You have to you know that.

Speaker 2 (01:04:36):
The low blow is not just look down upon it.
Wrestling is look down with period. Dirty pool, mister dirty pool.
And to spit on another man just just go slap
his mama.

Speaker 3 (01:04:52):
Why don't you the league is My take is this.

Speaker 2 (01:04:56):
The league has got to crack down and say, listen
and agree you just penalty. Disrespect will not be tolerated.
It's an automatic million dollar fine in two games suspension.
People will stop punching people, people will stop spitting on people.

Speaker 3 (01:05:13):
They'll stop with the low blows.

Speaker 2 (01:05:16):
The Domo Kong su back in the day, I mean
how many times we see him stomp on hands, stomp
on feet, kick people in the crotch while they were
on the ground.

Speaker 3 (01:05:26):
Aw but Hainsworth, I would hang another one.

Speaker 2 (01:05:28):
Like there were guys that did stuff that was so
horrible that it made you turn the channel. You know
how hardest it's gotta be for me to turn the
channel away from football. It's happened before. The League has
got to come down on these guys hard to what say.

Speaker 1 (01:05:46):
You, Well, I mean the people that are policing them
are former players, so it kind of it's kind of
needs to be taken out of Let's put it like this,
how about we start policing ourselves.

Speaker 3 (01:06:03):
Oh so you mean the team does it? Yeah? Why not?

Speaker 2 (01:06:07):
Listen, man, this is the NFL. I just want my
guy to play next week. I'm not gonna suspend them
two weeks and pay it get fine him a million dollars?

Speaker 3 (01:06:16):
Why why not? It's your team.

Speaker 4 (01:06:19):
I want to win.

Speaker 1 (01:06:20):
But okay, the league should do it. But why why
are you? Why are you making it on the league?
Why can't you clean up your own house. That's your player,
he's representing your team. You just talked about the sponsors.
Forget about the NFL sponsors. What about your sponsors? You
know what, that's a good point. So if you go
do that, if the NFL is not gonna take it.

Speaker 3 (01:06:40):
He didn't play Malcolm Butler in the game for something
in the Super Bowl. We still don't know. We still
don't know what he did. He did not play them.
So yeah, yeah, how about let's not put it on
the on them, Put.

Speaker 1 (01:06:55):
It on your team, Put it on your leadership to
at least your own thing, and if you don't. If
you don't, that's on you because those same sponsors you
talking about, they sponsor your team too. That's all I'm saying.
I'm not taking but I'm just saying I was just.

Speaker 3 (01:07:15):
Looking at it from a league perspective. But you know what,
You're right, You're right.

Speaker 2 (01:07:20):
I mean it should be that it should be you
can't carry your own house, and then nobody else has.

Speaker 1 (01:07:26):
To exactly exactly. So if you put it on a perspective,
you put it to the point of a market, you
don't have to hit me with your power. I'm just saying,
stop from don't you come back start policing your own
locker room and the things that are happening, because it
is happening because now everybody's being affected. It's like when

(01:07:48):
you have to go and you don't touch the line,
everybody go back and touch the line.

Speaker 3 (01:07:53):
Yep, that's right, that's in your house problem.

Speaker 1 (01:07:55):
So yes, I'm penalizing my team. We may lose the game,
but if the end of I'm still gonna lose the
game because he's gonna be fine and suspended.

Speaker 3 (01:08:04):
So why not do it yourself?

Speaker 1 (01:08:05):
And beat the team to it and say we've taken
care of it. The league is not going to add
anything else to it. The league's in agreeance with what
we're doing, and we move on from there, because, yeah,
it is embarrassing.

Speaker 3 (01:08:18):
It's a terrible situation. It's not cool for the sport.

Speaker 1 (01:08:21):
It's like if something were to happened last weekend with
Coach Shark and those guys, Coach Shark would have suspended them.

Speaker 3 (01:08:26):
Coach Shark would have held them out. I mean, there
are times.

Speaker 1 (01:08:30):
Where we have to take it out of the league's
hands and do it ourselves because people love their money,
people love their teammates, and now you're losing your money
and you're affecting your team by not being available for it.

Speaker 3 (01:08:46):
Wow, that's a good point. I like it. So I
think we solved all the world's problems.

Speaker 2 (01:08:52):
I don't know about it, at least the NFL league problem.

Speaker 3 (01:08:55):
I don't know about all that.

Speaker 1 (01:08:56):
But we're gonna see what we could get done while
we close out the show and you to Dan Patrick.
But before we go, Texas Volleyball they did a little
something something that advanced themselves to the championship rally in
the SEC Volleyball Championships, and they beat a team that

(01:09:18):
we're hopeful that the Texas football team can beat as well.
When we come back, we'll close out the show right
here on the Morning Kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred The Zone. What a great, great Tuesday edition of
the Morning Kickoff we had right here on Sports Radio
AM thirteen hundred The Zone. And now it's your chance

(01:09:38):
to continue this great Tuesday. You get a chance to
win a pair of tickets to go see NASCAR at
the Circuit of the Americas February the twenty six I mean, excuse.

Speaker 3 (01:09:48):
Me, twenty seventh through March.

Speaker 1 (01:09:49):
The first all you got to do is get over
to that iHeartRadio app, search that rig microphone, look at
AM thirteen hundred The Zone, and leave the keyword.

Speaker 3 (01:09:59):
Of the speedway.

Speaker 1 (01:10:01):
Speedway is your chance to win a pair of tickets
to go see NASCAR at the Circuit of the Americas.
Make sure you tuned in to the station all day long.
The Craig Way Show kicks off at two o'clock. Our
guy Jake Herman is filling in for Craig, which you
heard earlier, as he is in Hawaii broadcasting the Big Games.

(01:10:24):
Between the Texas Longhorns basketball team and now they will
take on Shamana in the consolation bracket. Pregame show starts
at nine. Tip off is at nine to thirty. And
make sure you're locked in all day long. I want
to make sure I give you the right station to

(01:10:46):
listen to the game tonight on sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred to Zone or it may be on the ninety
eight point one KVET. I'll give that to you in
just a moment when I make sure I get to
the right page to get it to you. How to
get to the right page. But yesterday Texas volleyball had

(01:11:08):
a big time matchup against guess who, the Texas A
and M fighting Aggie's and this was the semi final
Texas number three, Texas A and M number two in
the nation. And now they are sitting excuse me, now
they are headed to the finals. I believe to take

(01:11:29):
on Kentucky. Kentucky another one of those top teams in
the country. They will face Kentucky, the number one seed
in the championship today six o'clock on the SEC network
and then they'll roll you right into Texas and Shamanad
on SE's on excuse me, ESPN two. So Texas women

(01:11:52):
continue to have big time season. They're continuing their run.
They've been so effective. They got down early, but they
ended up winning three sets to one. Freshman Carrie Spears
surpassed three hundred kills on the season and she is
really unbelievable and she'll get a chance to break the record.

(01:12:15):
Spears has registered three hundred and seven kills on the season.
She surpassed Logan Eggleston. Eggleston had three hundred and twelve
and twenty eight matches in one hundred sets, so she'll
have an opportunity to pass that to set the all
time freshman record.

Speaker 2 (01:12:32):
It's always good to see sports doing well at Texas,
but I think it's just a better world when the
women's sports are doing well because that was a long
time where Texans had greatness, but there was always droughts,
and now there's no drought in any sport, all the
female sports. And speaking of famous female sports figures, myself

(01:12:56):
and friend Harris will be hosting the Austin Sports Awards,
which The Morning Kickoffs is nominated as the best sports
show in Austin. Phil that want to get information, go
to Austin Sports Awards dot Com.

Speaker 3 (01:13:15):
Also Sports Awards dot Com.

Speaker 2 (01:13:18):
Yeah, and vote for the morn Kickoff as a bit
sports show.

Speaker 1 (01:13:23):
Also shout out to guess who Fran Harris as she
was recognized this week as one of the most distinguished
Texas ex'es alums. I saw that come across yesterday, So
shout out to Fran Harris. You've heard her on the
show with us and everyone else that has been involved.

Speaker 3 (01:13:43):
Fran has done a great job.

Speaker 1 (01:13:45):
She's been trying to bring the w n b A
to this area and she is full of knowledge. You
can also hear her on some of the women's games
on ESPN and LHN. Yeah, they're still a la chen.
You got to use it on the ESPN app. So
shout out to Fran for all of her greatness in

(01:14:06):
what she does.

Speaker 3 (01:14:07):
As well.

Speaker 1 (01:14:09):
Tonight the Texas men, as we said, they will be
in the matchup against excuse me against Shamanad and listen, man,
I just need them to go out and play a
complete basketball game.

Speaker 3 (01:14:25):
They were so close, they were right there.

Speaker 1 (01:14:28):
They had that opportunity to win it all and just
came up a little bit short.

Speaker 2 (01:14:34):
But sometimes people want to be the hero and let
everybody be the hero at the same time win the game.
I mean, play with structure. You believe that, I believe
you believe that. I believe in stars being stars and
stepping up. But you got to earn the right of

(01:14:55):
being called the star and have the green light.

Speaker 1 (01:14:59):
I don't think coaches taking the green light away from
a lot of these guys, Okay, I mean what what
what gives you that thought process? That's I guess that's
the bigger question for me. What makes you believe that
that is what they are thinking?

Speaker 3 (01:15:14):
Perception?

Speaker 2 (01:15:15):
