Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, killing Ash, Good morning, Good morning. It's tomorrow show today,
Good Morning's Monday. Today's Monday the eighteenth. Tomorrow will be Tuesday,
the nineteenth. We wait ten days away from Thanksgiving Day.
That means you're a month and a week away from Christmas.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
You know, And as the years fly by. Yeah, I
on Friday, I saw that it was the thirty eighth
anniversary on Friday of the release of the Beastie Boys
record Oh My Gosh. And I was like, I remember
exactly where I was eight years ago then listening to
that for the first time, And now I see we're
now on the fortieth anniversary of Band Aids. Do they
(00:44):
know it's Christmas forty years ago? And you know it's interesting?
Is that is the reason I think a whole new
generation of people love that song is not because of
the reissues of it. It's more because Mark Wahlberg says
that's his favorite song in Daddy Dearest, Oh Gotcha? And
(01:06):
then John Cena loves it too. Yeah, remember him and
John were singing it in the movie Theater and Daddy's
Home two or whatever it was. That's right. But anyway,
they're apparently they're releasing an AI video. Now this is
going to be I guess pretty amazing. So they recorded
(01:26):
it originally in what eighty four, They did another version
of it in like two thousand and four, so like
twenty years later. Then they did another one in twenty fourteen,
and now they got a new one in twenty twenty four.
But the twenty twenty four edition will have every voice
that was on it, so they've somehow mixed like the
(01:46):
nineteen eighty four version with the two thousand and four version,
with the twenty fourteen version and the new voices whoever
they're adding to it in twenty twenty four. So they
just keep adding voices to it. Yeah, and I guess
they're harmonizing or something.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
And go back and listen to the difference between the
first and the last. And now we get another one
coming out.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
Yees, so this will be the fourth version of Do
they Know It's Christmas? But when you watch like the
original video, gosh, those people look so young. Oh sure,
George Michael looked like a like a baby. Right now
he's dead. Goodness, gracious, kids. One of the guys from
Duran Duran is wearing a sweater that says Duran Duran
that's the first time I've ever seen anybody like wearing
(02:25):
their own merch, So that was interesting. So we'll celebrate
getting old together other things that we can talk. Well,
of course, we're gonna have to do what you're talking
about and what you're talking about tomorrow. I have not
yet gotten the proper pronunciation, so I might be saying
it wrong. I will listen to our little where's that
(02:46):
guy from France? Somewhere in Europe? For sure? In the is,
my friends, we are learning the proper pronunciation today for
and I'm going to take a guess at it. Equant equanimity.
Equanimity is what I'm gonna.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
Equanimity, equanimity e q U A N I M I
T y. Equanimity is how I'm gonna guess it's pronounced.
The answer is calmness or composure in a difficult situation.
So like tomorrow, when you're on the phone with us,
you need to display some equanimity because it's a difficult situation.
(03:22):
That's right, A lot riding on it. Two tickets they
go see Kelsey Ballerini.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
Don't want to screw this up. You want to speak clearly.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Annunciation matters, Yes, yes, read it concisely. It's always good
to give Kelly's words directly back to wim you want
to win.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
That's right. The tics for clicks continues. That's it.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
So we got Kelsey Batterley tickets tickets tomorrow morning. What
you're talking about that?
Speaker 2 (03:47):
And now the folks at Delish is that how you said?
Speaker 1 (03:50):
There?
Speaker 2 (03:51):
Is it dlish? I'm gonna go with dlish. I'm gonna
go with you're gonna go with delish. I would go
with delish?
Speaker 1 (03:57):
All right, Well, rarely do you have the you know,
let's see the accent of the first syllable like that.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
I just think it sounds cool er dlish.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
Like I don't know, down south, it's like research in sement,
semen or delish maybe down south? Maybe down south. You're right,
it will be first syllable accent.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
Makes the word funner. It's with a splash, isn't it. Yeah,
semen cement, research not research or cement. Well, they've come
out with their guide for the best and worst times
for your holiday shopping and they're talking first off about
Thanksgiving Day, So when are you going to go grocery shopping?
(04:43):
So the Monday before Thanksgiving is their best day for
grocery shopping, and the best time is eight am Monday morning.
That's when it'll be the least packed. Uh an hour
before the closes, whatever time the store closes on that Monday,
(05:05):
an hour before they close. If the store closes at nine,
get there at eight, If they close at ten, get
there at nine. That is when there'll be the least
amount of people in the store. And also they said,
so this Saturday, I guess because they're saying the Saturday
before Thanksgiving is a great time as well. This Saturday
is Saturday before thanksgiven. Right, Obviously, the worst time to
(05:28):
go is anytime on Wednesday. If you go on Wednesday,
expect them to have half the stuff missing and lines
out the door. And Tuesday is like last resort time.
So if you miss Tuesday Wednesday, Thanksgiving's ruined. And most
are not open on Thursday, so you got to plan
(05:48):
ahead for Thanksgiving. And then when he starts shopping for Christmas,
they talk about obviously the worst times would be anytime
on Black Friday. That day is going to suck. The
Sunday before Christmas is the second worst, the Monday before
Christmas is the third worst, and the Saturday December fourteenth
(06:10):
and even Saturday November thirtieth are usually tied for worst days.
If you're trying to go Christmas shopping. The best time,
according to them, is any Monday around three pm, except
December twenty third. That don't go on December eighth, don't
If you wait till the week of Christmas, you're done anyway.
So how are you doing on your Christmas shopping? Angela
(06:32):
tells me that I believe we're pretty much all buttoned
down now. I think she's got it all handled.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
That's about to have this conversation with Sally today about
how we gonna do, what we're gonna do, who's gonna
get what? So we're planning it all out.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
This is the time. I mean, it's like as a
single guy, I don't think I ever really planned it out. No,
I think there was a lot of gift cards given.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
We didn't have a whole lot of people to buy
for either as single guys. Yeah, you bought for your
immediate family, if you have brothers or sisters, any mom
and dad, pretty much it.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
I got you a Burger King gift card.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
Yeah, we didn't give We didn't give gifts to people
that we worked with.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
It was just like wherever I happened to be, Oh, crap,
Christmas is in like three days. Can I get a
gift card? Here? You want a gift card with your fries? Yeah,
I gotta get it for somebody.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
And what was some of the some of the best
gift cards to buy? You were showing me a list
last week.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
Ye y yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
You can get the kickback. So if you bought the
fifty dollars gift card, you get a ten dollar car
for yourself.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
Yeah, or you can get to the discount or you
get a big discount. So it's like you can buy
a fifty dollars gift card for like forty five dollars
or something. But I think that they do that because
how many times do we hear about the people didn't
you the gift cards? Oh, it's like a multi billion
dollar industry or something. You're throwing money in a hole.
So they're like, well, yeah, we'll give you a fifty
dollars gift card for forty five dollars. Because it's forty
(08:08):
five dollars for nothing. Nobody's going to use it. Yes,
So I'm trying to see best gift cards. Seemed like
it was a lot of restaurants out there. Let's see.
Now this is okay, So this is wallet Hub. That's
probably where we got it from. And according to them,
the best one is the Amazon gift card. I guess
this is like what is it the most likely to
be used or whatever? Amazon's number one targets, number two, Sephora, Walmart, Starbucks.
(08:35):
That's like your top five or whatever. But where's the
ones for the ones that, like you were saying, like
where you it was like.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
Fandango? I say, the thing with Fandango is that you
try to apply it and it won't apply it. That's
why it's such a great buy.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
So when it says average buyer discount, I don't know.
I'm not I'm not sure if I'm interpreting it right,
but I I think it's I'm interpreting right meaning that
if you spent one hundred dollars on a gift card,
you could buy it for ninety five dollars. Is that right?
Five percent off would be ninety five dollars. I'm assuming
that's what they mean. So Amazon, they're saying five percent
discount is the others discount, which is great target gives
(09:14):
you a two point five to nine percent discount. So
Fouras is almost six percent, Walmart's about four percent, Starbucks
is a little over five percent, Disney is two percent.
Orei is seven percent. That's a bit sonic. Are you
kidding me? Sonic? I don't even really eat there that much.
I might have to go. Sixteen point three percent discount. Wow,
(09:39):
that's incredible. Buy the card and take yourself. That's right. Yeah,
that's the only one that I see in double digits.
Olive Garden is almost eight percent. I know.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
There are a lot of different ways, and you see
them advertising. There's the there's a couple of mice to
buy because they would give you a ten dollar card
if you bought a fifty dollar card.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
They just throw it in as a bonus. Yeah, you
get a ten dollar card for yourself. Like, who could
beat this? That would be a twenty percent, right thing?
So wow, I'd buy.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
I'd buy the card and then I get the discount car
for my I get the freebie card for myself.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
Yeah. Fandango is eight point three percent. So if you're like,
if you've got a movie lover. Speaking of the movies,
we were talking about The Rock Oo. The Rocks movie
is out and it looks horrific. I couldn't.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
I couldn't believe after we watched the trailer last week,
Katter he was going to go see this and they
still made thirty four million dollars at the box office.
I guess it's because it's a Christmas movie and people
want to go see a Christmas movie.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
But he's like, and he's so popular. I mean, so,
I'm looking at this thing right now. Dwayne Johnson's two
hundred and fifty million dollars bomb. So it opens with
thirty four million, thirty four point one million dollars. It
cost almost two hundred and fifty million dollars to make,
and they're saying that basically, when you make a movie,
(11:03):
you got to get ninety percent of it back that
first weekend. So he needed to open it over two
hundred million dollars. Wow, is what they needed. He got
thirty four million, So now they're thinking it's going to
max out at like fifty to sixty million, and they're
going to eat two hundred million dollars. I didn't see
him doing interviews to promote this or anything, did you?
And I saw a little bit Red One opens that's
(11:26):
the name of it. Red one. I guess opening four thousand,
thirty two screens, including IMAX and other large formats. It
was a quiet weekend for major releases, so they really
thought it was going to do well well.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
It's really importantly you start stacking up all the other
things going on to the world when you pick an
opening night. If you're supposed to make ninety percent of
your total expenditures on any movie.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
On opening night, opening weekend, we opening weekend, Yeah, you
got to get most of it back that weekend because
that's everybody's going to the movies to see that. And
then there's apparently no demand for this movie because, like
you said, the dang trailers looked terrific. It did not
look like any funny. There's no funny here. You got
to come with your A material in these trailers. And
(12:09):
if that's your A material, what is the other two
hours going to be? Like? This is making good? This
is going to be horrible, And apparently, according to the reviews,
it is horrible. The premise sucked. And the premise was
what's his name Kidnapped Santa Claus and and and the
Rock was supposed to be Santa Claus's body guard or something.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
It was too stupid to even commit to memory. I
remember thinking, I'll never go see this. I won't even
say I don't even watch this five years from now
my home.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
And the other guy is a big star too. It's uh,
Chris Evans. So Chris Evans and Dwayne the Rock Johnson.
They should have just made it in America. They should
have made like a car movie, like like another one
of those like we're racing cars type of thing with
stealing money or stopping people from stealing money. Give Americans
what they want, not something stupid. I wonder why why
(13:00):
was it so expensive? Are there incredible stunts in this movie?
There's an explosions? What they put it in an Imax theater?
Why would you like? Imax? To me means incredible graphics
and the pnography. Yeah, something here specials happening. And I
guess we've got Santa Claus flying maybe, And who's the
guy playing Santa Claus? The guy from the commercials right,
(13:22):
the Farmers insurance. Yeah, we are farmers.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
And that guy plays Santa Claus. And he's been in
a lot of really good movies, has he? Oh yeah,
that guy's been a lot of really good movies.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
It's funny. I just know him as the farmers guy.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
It is amazing that's what you're seeing most. But he's
been a lot of good movies, all right, So anyway
we can deal with some of that. Hey, what's going
on in your neighorhood? We should be talking about. You
got a better Crystal movie coming out? Give us a
heads up on that. I think you could write a
better Christmas movie between now and then.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
To be honest with you, is there a Are the
Hallmark movies better than the new Juayne Johnson movie? The
writing is more.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
Sally was watching one of those Hallwark movies, Not Walked
in the Deal, and I'm like, I.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
Was like that little baby in the mole. You just
kinda spun around run. Also like Homer Simpson when he
kind of walks out of the bush and he walks
right back into it. Hey, you can reach out to
