Speaker 1 (00:00):
Right now, we have co hosts of the Pat and
Aaron Show on ninety five to three WDAE. Aaron Jacobson
is with us to talk about bad Bucks loss yesterday.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
What is going on with this team? I don't know.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
I can't explain it. That is a game against the Saints,
a team you're way better than. Yeah, and I don't
think it was a case of overlooking the Saints. They
didn't execute. The Buccaneers are not executing right now on
both sides of the balls, especially on defense, but on offense.
They looked loss at times yesterday too. You can blame
it on the weather, you can blame it on the refs,
but ultimately you got to look at yourselves and say,

(00:35):
we didn't do it against a team that we should
have annihilated yesterday at home.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
The fourth down failures were just brutal to watch, and
some of the play calling. I don't know. Look, this
is probably bound to happen. They lost offensive coordinators two
years in a row. Because of how good they were,
they get head coaching jobs. But it feels like that
side of the ball is taking a step back, And

(01:00):
to me, it's really troubling when your head coach's specialty,
which is defense isn't performing. Like there's one side of
the ball that that should be consistent.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
It should be that side.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
Yeah, And a lot of people are saying, oh, well,
they'll get pieces back on offense and.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
The offense about injuries, I mean, look around the NFL.
There are a lot of teams that are performing real
like the forty nine ers have a lot of injuries
and somehow they're right in the middle of the playoff back.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
Yeah, and a lot of the injuries and I agree
with you, but a lot of the injuries they talk
about are on the offensive side of the football. The
problems are on defense and special teams right now. So
we can talk about getting those guys back on offense
all we want. Your defense isn't doing their job. Special
teams is awful for this team. Recipe for disaster. And
now you find yourself where the division is in jeopardy
for you.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
It is so a couple questions, big picture questions. And
this is no question. It's twenty twenty hindsight, it's it's
Monday morning quarterbacking. Did the Bucks make a mistake by
letting Liam Cohane go not making him the head coach?

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Last year and replacing Tom Bowles.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
It's an interesting question that I didn't find myself asking
until the end of the season. Last year we asked it,
and then I didn't find myself asking him again until
yesterday with a couple of people was talking.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
But Jaguars are looking good and he's got them rolling,
and it feels like.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
Maybe they let a good one go and they coached
so differently and you can make the same mark now
not so much. Dave Knalis, who was previously the offensive
coordinator before Liam Cohen, he went to Carolina to get
head coaching gig.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Yeah, Liam Cohen.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Was last year and that offense was humman last year
Liam Cohen, and a lot of people thought young upcoming
guy Liam Cohen.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Small guys step coach too.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
I look, I just tend to think in today's NFL,
offensive head coaches are better. You look at what's happening
with Chicago and Ben Johnson. You've got Matt Laflor in
Green Bay offensive coach, Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVay, Andy. I mean,
you can go down the list. Generally they tend to
do better, and it's because the offensive sided the ball.

(03:00):
That's what the NFL is emphasizing.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
Defense used to win in the NFL. Yeah, No offense
wins in the NFL, So I completely agree with you.
It's kind of like, hey, go out there and dominate
on offense and just let your defense be adequate right
to win a game, enough to win a game, and
that the Bucks aren't even close to adequate and their
coach is defensive minded, so double negative there. Yeah, how
could you not ask yourself when you see Liam Cohen
going into the locker room yesterday after a big Jaguars win,

(03:22):
dominant win, and he is pumped up. Yeah, and then
you have to listen to Todd Bowles at the end
of the game talk about, hey, we didn't execute and
we weren't ready, and that's just that message is becoming.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
It's very stale.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
We're joined by Aaron Jacobs and co host of The
Pat Aaron Show and ninety five three Doubleudae. If they
don't make the playoffs, Todd Bowles still the coach next year.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
Name the seat is very hot if they don't make
the playoffs. It depends on who's out there. You know,
sometimes you fire a coach because you have to, and
then you got to look and go, well, what's next
If we fire him, he's out there, Liam Cohen, you
let him go, He's not there anymore. So you missed
the boat on that one. But this seat is as
hot as I've ever felt it for Todd Bowles.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
And they've got, you know, this Thursday night game coming
up against the Falcons.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
It's the Falcons. It's a game they should win.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
But these Thursday night games sometimes on a short week,
they're a little dicey.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
I feel like.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
It's in Tampa Bay. It's a game they should wait.
There's a lot of those.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
And then they've got the two against Carolina, which obviously
are going to be really important, and the Dolphins they're
playing really well. That's not going to be an easy
game in South Florida. Bucks are in trouble right now.
They're in trouble.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
If they don't fix it, if they don't figure out
on defense, especially, they are very much in trouble, they'll
look like Notre Dame on the on the outside.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
All right, let's talk about that real quick. How to
do it?

Speaker 1 (04:31):
What do you make of this college football playoffs setup?
I mean, this is a freaking joke.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
And you know what.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
To me, it all starts with the ACC and their tiebreaker,
because Dukes should never been in that game, even though
they won it, I don't care. They should have never
been in that game. Miami should be the ACC champion,
which would have opened up a spot for Notre Dame
and it would have knocked out one of these group
of five teams. I mean too Lane, James mad freaking
break Ticnic Garage.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
They're gonna get killed it and listen, USF two No
in the USF. I think USF would have struggled and
of those games against one of those top teams, and
they were on.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
This so they did against Miami. Yeah, and you saw them.
They had the path to do it at some point.
But I'm with you. Something has to change.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
James Madison, great season, but they're gonna get trounced in
this playoff.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
There's no chance they're gonna win a national championship. There
would have been a chance Notre Dame could have won.
Not only there's a chance James Madison wins a game
the national championship. We'll see, but yeah, no, they got
to change it. Head to head matters though, is what
we learned yesterday. Had to head matt like Miami getting
in isn't the problem to me. To me, it's James
Madison and Tulane and even Alabama to a certain extent.
What about What have you been hearing from listeners about

(05:37):
USF's new head coach?

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Hardline?

Speaker 3 (05:41):
I love them, they love them. Home run higher, home
run higher. For this for Rob Higgins, his first hire
in his new role at us.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
Getting rave reviews. I will caution he's a coordinator. You
just never know how they're gonna do as they take
over as head coach. And the point that I know
you made that Rob Higgins directly responded to it was
the same point that I made when it first happened.
I hope he keeps that list handy of potential head coaches.
Probably gonna need it if this guy has a lot
of success in two or three years.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
I put a tweet out how many years until Brian
Hartlett leaves USF and I have been getting crush. It's
a good point, though it's legit. It is USF fans
are brutal.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
Until USF gets in the power for and becomes, you know,
one of those kinds of programs, and even then, you know,
if they have a lot of success.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
Look what happened. You had old miss that one loss
and Lane Kiffin jump to LSU.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
Is always a better program, Yeah, always a better program.
But one thing I did learn is USF fans are brutal.
They were taking my picture on Twitter and they were
blowing it up and they were tweeting it out a
little idiot.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
What do they say to me? They call me a carpetbagger?
Really wow?

Speaker 3 (06:50):
Yeah, and they said shot yeah, and they said this
guy needs testosterone.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
They were brutal. Wait, I look pretty young in this ficture.
All right, funny, all right.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Aaron Jacobs and cost of the Batan Aaron Show in
ninety five three WDAE. That's why you want to listen
to him for hot takes like that. They do a
lot of controversy in the area. All right, Aaron, thanks
so much.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
Thanks V.
