Coco Gauff Addresses Tennis Gender Testing Policy

Ryan and Dana discuss Coco Gauff’s reaction to tennis’ new gender policy, after the star player shared her thoughts on the rules and said she partly agrees with the change.

American tennis player Coco Goff was put on the spot
on Wednesday when she was asked about the new gene
testing policy put in place by the Women's Tennis Association.
The new policy will require players to undergo a one
time test to prove their biological women. Here's what she said.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Yes, I guess kind of agree with trying to protect
the fairness and women's sports, but also do not like
the attack that it is creating people who don't really
care but just want to use this as a reason
to attack the trans community. So I'm not really a
big fan of that either. So I don't really know

(00:47):
how they answer really this question in a way that
people aren't gonna spend it. But as far as where
I stand, I definitely support the trans community, but I
also support the need of creating fairness and sport too.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
Yeah, so it sounds like she agrees with the policy
and knows it needs to be done, but she's afraid
to come right out and say that, almost like she
kind of danced around it. Oh well, I kind of
see it this way, Like I think there's just so
much pressure on women and on people to be very
careful about how they were at everything.

I actually thought that was a pretty good answer, because
she's right, there are some people who are using this
issue to just go after the trans community. But also
I think the trans community sometimes they're a little overly sensitive.
Like Sophie Cunningham. I don't think she said anything wrong,
and she's been attacked. It's been pretty You had that

(01:42):
coach in the WNBA wear that shirt. Did you see that? Yeah,
she wore a shirt like on the court. I support
the trans community, you know, after Sophie Cunningham, I mean,
give me a freaking break. So I thought, Coco Goff,
I thought that was a pretty good way to answer
that ques question. And I get it on her part,

she doesn't want to be answering that or making waves.
I think some people they just don't want to they
don't want to.

Be adulnamate and they're put on the spot. Yeah, and
she said she also said that there's nuance to it,
which a lot of people lose. You're either one side
or the other, and a lot of people have a
hard time with that middle ground exactly.
