Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Ryan Gorman Show podcast presented by Farah and Farah,
accident attorneys from Tampa.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
So Florida's chief financial officer Blaze and Golia found himself
on the defensive after he had been going around the
state pointing out wasteful and excessive spending with local governments.
And the defense was from other Republicans who are asking
questions about questionable financial practices at the state. So we're

(00:30):
talking about the situation in Tampa with the state giveaway
of state owned land at Hillsborough College. So twenty two
acres of non conservation land is being given to the
Ray's ownership so that they can build a Major League
ballpark in that location. And the Hillsborough County Property Appraiser's

(00:53):
office assessed the value of those twenty two acres of
twenty one million dollars, with the buildings and investment around
the area twenty six and a half million.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
So at the Tiger Bay Club.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
In Tampa, held of the Cuban Club at Ebor City,
the conservative activist Jim Davison asked Angolia.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
Why are you giving away this land?

Speaker 2 (01:15):
I mean, you're not even selling it to the team,
You're just handing it to them like a gift, and
in Golia, I didn't really have a good answer. He
said that, well, you know, the assessment of the property
is is a final and that you know they want
to continue reviewing these kinds of transit actually need to
break the land is worth something.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
I mean, come on, it's only five million dollars. Still
giving it away. I'll I'll tell you exactly what this is.

Speaker 4 (01:37):
This is the governor wanted to give it to somebody
who donated to his presidential campaign, and Patrick Saloopski, the
new owner of the race.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
That's exactly what happened here.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
I mean, yeah, there's no no, it's clear as day.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
You could see how this all played out.

Speaker 4 (01:53):
And this isn't the only time the DeSantis administration has
just gifted land. We saw that with uh the Donald
Trump Presidential Library in Miami, where they could have gotten
a lot more for that land.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Yeah, same kind of situation at Miami Dade School there.
And this is Hillsborough College. So they're basically saying, you
know what, forget the schools, let's just give this to
private interests.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
Right.

Speaker 4 (02:17):
And look, the problem here is that you've got politicians
like Blazingolia, like Governor DeSantis saying that they are not
in favor of taxpayer subsidies for professional sports stadiums. What
the hell do you think this is when you're just
gifting the land like that, You're using what could be

(02:41):
taxpayer money if you had told them, you're just you're
just giving that to these rich owners.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
So just own it.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
Just say well, we are in favor of taxpayer subsidies
in certain ways.

Speaker 3 (02:53):
You know, well give them the land. We're not going
to give them the cast.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Right make an argument. I mean this undercuts Blaze and
Golia going around and making really harsh criticisms of local
government and how they do spending. Whenever there's any like
microscope on the state, there's never any answer for the
waste that goes on up there, and the level of
waste is so much higher than anything that goes on
at the local level because they have a much bigger budget.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
Yeah, and the last thing I'll say on this, you
also have blazoning Goliat governor of Santus they're not in
favor of taxpayer subsidies for professional sports stadiums. But I
have not heard either one of them speak out and say, well,
the city in the county they should not be forking
over almost a billion dollars that at all. No. In fact,

(03:37):
the governor basically said the opposite. He wanted to see
this whole thing go through. So this is just you know, politics,
and it's what I find so phiotocracy. Yeah, so is
the Sunshine Series this weekend in Tampa, and the Tampa
Bay Rays came out winners overall against the Miami Marlins,
winning two out of the three games in the series,

(04:00):
including the one yesterday they beat the Marlins six to three.
And the Rays are on a roll.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
I mean, they're the American League in first place in
their division thirty and fifteen. They've won eighteen out of
their last twenty two games. Of the Marlins meanwhile in
fourth place in the National League East at twenty one
and twenty six.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
But it's always cool.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
I think that's one of the best things about interleague play,
getting to see these like either Cross City or Fross
State rivals play because you know, for the longest time,
it just never happened unless it was in the World Series.
So these are the games that I think a lot
of people enjoy rather than you know, an odd game
against you know, the Rays versus you know, Cincinnati or something. Yeah,
this is a lot more of an interesting matchup. It's

(04:42):
like a regional rivalry, although honestly, I don't know how
much the Rays and Marlins have been.

Speaker 4 (04:48):
A big rival or it's not like the Mets and
Yankees or the Cups in White Sox.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
You know, same city rivals are going to be more intense. Yeah. Yeah,
but the Rays are off too. I mean, nobody saw
this start happening this year. Amazing.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
They're just on an incredible run. You've got Junior Camonaro
playing really really well. That the top of lineup with
Simpson and Caminaro and Ronda and Diez, they've been really good.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
Three game lead over the Yankees.

Speaker 4 (05:13):
Now they got three at home against Baltimore before they
go play the Yankees in New York. That'll be a
really interesting series. The Marlins five gavens under five hundred.
Not a particularly tough schedule to start the season. I
think it's been a disappointing start for the Marlins after
you know, finishing off the season pretty strong last year.
They got a tough four game stretch against the Braves
coming up. I wouldn't be surprised if they were in

(05:34):
last place by midweek in the division. So you've just
got both those organizations kind of in different places right now.
The Rays always seem to figure out a way though.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
It is incredible, but there's, as they say in baseball,
there's a long way to go.

Speaker 4 (05:51):
It turns out all right. Chris Chrankman with today's SOP Stories. Chris,
thanks so much.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
Thank you.
