Speaker 1 (00:00):
We start with today's top stories and Chris Trenkman, Good morning, Chris.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Good morning.

Speaker 3 (00:04):
A heated political forum for the Tampa Bay City Council
District five runoff turned chaotic on Thursday when former City
council candidate Elvis Piggott pulled out a gun during an argument.
The incident happened after a forum for the District five
special runoff election between Thomas Scott and no Ya Young.
The runoff was the result of the election where multiple

(00:28):
candidates were involved, and he did not advance in that runoff,
so he was there and he was confronted after the
event by member of Young's family because of his support
for Scott. So in a deleted Facebook stream, Piggott recounted
saying that he pulled out the gun in self defense
because he said somebody put their hands on him, and

(00:51):
he said, if somebody's going to do that, they're taking
their life into their own hands.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (00:55):
I guess Piggott had been very critical of the one
candidate in this city council race. Yeah, and then there's
this confrontation outside of this forum.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
He's with his little kid.

Speaker 4 (01:10):
He claims that, you know, he felt threatened, so he
pulls out the gun.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
Now there's an investigation.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Yeah, council race.

Speaker 5 (01:17):
It sounds like he just got a little crazy, like
you got a little overreacting.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
Yeah, possibly, I don't know.

Speaker 4 (01:23):
I mean, according to him, he's saying that, you know,
he had all these people coming up to him and
they were angry and he's worried about his son, and
I don't know, but that escalated.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
Really really quickly. Well, the thing about these races is
that while turnout's not high, that means every vote counsel.
Oh yeah, and if this guy's going to throw his
support behind another candidate, and this is an interesting race
because you have Scott, the former city council member, who's
older and has been around politics a long time.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Then you have this upstart. This could be the difference.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
You could have one of the other candidates who got
some votes yep, and is throwing his support behind the
veteran and this apparently set off the other side.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
And yeah, it got heated.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
Now, whether that warrant's pulling out a gun over a
city council seat is questionable, and that's what police are investigating.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
Yeah, you know, they're investigating whether or not it was
self defense or he was, you know, just looking to
threaten the other parties involved. But boy, I tell you what,
I almost want to go to the next when's the
next forum?

Speaker 1 (02:23):
See what goes down there? I know I'm disappointed they
pulled it off the face of the God. Awefully cooler
heads prevail in that race.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
Yeah, the rough and tumble world of Tampa City Council
District five, right, that's so. Penelas County has responded to
the statement by Governor De Santas on social media from
the states so called Department of Government Efficiency, the task
force that's led by Blazing Golia, the chief financial officer,
claims that some local governments have been engaging in uncovered

(02:53):
instances of reckless spending and woke initiatives, and among those
claims of irresponsible spending included one from Penellis County where
they allegedly spent seventy five thousand dollars to sponsor the
annual Pride Festival and then two hundred and fifty eight
thousand dollars from utilities and emergency service funds to support
those events. So Panella's County responded saying that that's just

(03:17):
not true, that that's a completely false statement the Pride
event was part of the county's elite event funding program
that uses Tourism Development tax funds.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
Yeah, bedtax, that's right, and.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
Those are paid by visitors to Penella's County who stay overnight.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
Had nothing to do with property taxes.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
And then the other claim is that you know they
were these things were not drawn from property taxes because
state statute requires that the Tourism Development tax be used
for these kinds of events to promote the county and
to promote events that are that are taking place within
the county limits.

Speaker 4 (03:51):
And there were also some questions about how DOGE arrived
at those numbers. So far, all of these these headlines
that I've seen from CFO blazing go and this doze work.
When the counties and local governments have responded, there are
serious questions about what the hell Doese is alleging. And
if you're going to try to say that Penell's County

(04:12):
shouldn't be spending some of their bed tax dollars on
the Pride event, well, I mean, I think you need
to come down here and see how much that stirs
up economic development during the course of that week.

Speaker 5 (04:25):
Yeah, people come from all over hundreds of thousands here
for it.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
Yeah, I mean that's a big event.

Speaker 4 (04:31):
So yeah, putting some money towards putting that on, there's
a greater community benefit. Even you know, if for whatever
reason you're anti Pride or something like that, that is
a week that really sets Saint Pete apart. And I
would find it hard to agree with an argument that
would say that some of those bed tax dollars going

(04:53):
towards putting that event on, bringing all of those people
in and creating all of that economic activity isn't worth it.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
You know, the counties and cities are essentially alleging that
Blaze and Goalie and his campaign is a fraud and
that his claims are true basically fly out lies, and
that it's going to be interesting to see because he
said that during some of his news conferences that he's
going to be around for eight years, like he's going
to be guaranteed this job. It'll be interesting to see
if any Republicans have run against him in the actual race,

(05:20):
because he's an appointed guy.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
He was out elected.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
Now whether they bring up the fact that he's actually
out there putting out questionable claims using his office and
alleging these things against cities, which which obviously in this
case in Panela's County, are true.

Speaker 4 (05:35):
No, it just makes the whole thing look political, which
I think it is. But now, if you're going to
do it, and you want to make sure that local
governments are spending their tax dollars and being efficient, then
gather all the information you know they gathered tens of
thousands of documents, go through it all, do an actual audit,
get with the city governments, make sure all of this

(05:57):
stuff is cleared up before releasing one final r not
this let's go around the state through these headlines, and
really all of this is focused in on trying to
promote lowering property taxes and setting up the disantis agenda
for twenty twenty six.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
That's really what this is.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
Yeah, it's almost like it's about messaging. Yeah, and they
figure if they can get these headlines out early, people
may not follow the following right right.

Speaker 5 (06:22):
Which is frustrating that Joge did on the national level
where they had all these big headlines about all this
waste and then when you took a deeper look at
it and it wasn't what they were.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
Saying it was.

Speaker 4 (06:30):
Yeah, and it's frustrating because I do think it's good
to go in and make sure everything's being done efficiently,
but this politics that's involved in it, it's hurting the costs.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
Yeah, yeah, that's right.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
So Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers are alone atop the
NFC South after a thirty to nineteen win over these
shorthanded forty nine ers in Tampa. It also came at
a price for the Bucks. A Mayfield had a good
game seventeen to twenty three two hundred and fifty six yards,
screw essential touchdowns as the Bucks are now five and
one with their second straight win and an important hole win.

(07:02):
Rashad White had eighty six total yards and a score
in the victory, but the rookie Sensation and maka Igbuka
got injured. He had a hamstring injury and had to
leave the game. And that is another loss in the
receiving corps for the Bucks.

Speaker 4 (07:16):
They keep losing players every single game. Now they were
playing against a team that's even more banged up than them,
and they lost one of their stars the forty nine
Ers for the rest of the season. Baker Mayfield's playing
like an MVP. There's no question about it. I think
he's the front runner right now.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
They were channing it. Yeah, it was great.

Speaker 4 (07:31):
And it's not just the throws that he's making, but
he made that one scramble that run for a first down.
He's all fired up. And then there was another play
where he had a throw and I mean he just
got leveled, gets right back up. He's in the defender's face.
I mean, just that fiery attitude that he has. It's

(07:51):
really it's getting the team going. He's quite a leader
he's become for this Bucks team. And now they get
an extra day of rest before they face the Lions,
who lost last night to the Kent City Chiefs. But
that's going to be another tough test. That's going to
be in Detroit, but they need that extra day. It's
going to be a Monday night football game because, like
you said, they're banged up. God went out, Evans out Buca.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
We don't know what the deal is with him.

Speaker 4 (08:17):
You've got guys on defense who are banged up, and
they've got a tough stretch. They've got this Lions game,
which you know might be featuring the two best teams
in the NFC, and then you've got even with the
Lions lost last night. Then you've got the Saints, but
then after that Patriots Bills Rams. I mean, it's just
it's a pretty difficult stretch, but they're weathering it. They
got a two game lead in the division and they're

(08:38):
playing really well right now.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
Yeah, I mean, they had a little bit of an
issue having struggled earlier. They made the comeback, but at
least it wasn't in the final seconds. Yeah, I mean,
now they won the game. It was kind of weird watching.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
The end of the game.

Speaker 4 (08:52):
There was no drama, because every game has been drama
for the Bucks up to this point.

Speaker 3 (08:55):
It was drama though, in the sense that you just
had to rewind the clock about ten minutes. Yeah, you know,
and then this same sort of thing. But you know what,
they got it done and it was an excellent win
at home. And like you said, next week's really a
signature game for the UNFL because it's you know, those
two teams with the best records.

Speaker 4 (09:09):
Yeah, it's good football times here. I know you're gonna
get to the next story USF, that's right, Yeah, how
about USF. The Bulls national approval rating has continued to
go up after Friday night sixty three to thirty six
road triumph against previously unbeaten North Texas. So USF's now
five and one, two to zero in the American Conference,
and they moved up five spots in the AP poll,

(09:32):
number nineteen in the country, and so they're still half
the season remaining, but they are the favorite to win
the birth for that conference, you assuming they continue to
play well.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
Now, they do have some challenging games coming up.

Speaker 3 (09:46):
They're gonna have to play number twenty two Memphis on
October twenty fifth, and Navy is currently undefeated. They'll play
them in November. So those are tough games. But USF
is proving that they can win.

Speaker 4 (09:57):
I watched that game, very very sloppy first half, a
lot of turnovers, but then second half, man, did they
turn it on and to blow out North Texas team
that was undefeated up to that point. That was an
impressive victory. So number nineteen in the country and again
at the college level, at the pro level, things are

(10:18):
all good on the football front here in Tampa Bay Area.
Chris Strangman with today's Stop Stories. Chris, thanks so much,
thank you. Now let's get to today's Stop Stories with
Natalie Rodriguez.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
Good morning, Natalie, Good morning.

Speaker 6 (10:28):
Busy morning on the heels of that announcement, and we
are watching President Trump sitting there at the Canesse, so
he should be speaking. They're doing all the pleasantries, everyone's
applauding for each other. Secretary of State Mark Rubio is
in attendance, as is the President's daughter and her husband,
So that's a big one.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
Also.

Speaker 6 (10:48):
The shutdown, it continues dragging into another week, both sides
of the aisle continuing to point fingers at one another.
Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson telling Fox News yesterday that
Democratic lawmakers are heard the American people. With each passing day, they're.

Speaker 7 (11:03):
Eating up the clock. They're doing this for political cover.
Chuck Schumer, when he voted for the exact same measure
back in March, took a lot of heat from the
left of his party, and he doesn't want to sustain
that any longer. So he's doing this and inflicting pain
for his own selfish reasons.

Speaker 6 (11:17):
And of course, all of this comes after court filing
showed that Trump administration has started laying off thousands of
federal workers. Layoffs include employees from seven agencies, with over
half coming from the Treasury Department and the Department of
Health and Human Services. Now that again the Senate is
not voting again this week until tomorrow. They took all

(11:38):
of these days off.

Speaker 4 (11:39):
Yeah, and I wouldn't expect much to happen today. You
get the president in Israel, the release of the hostages.
That's going to be dominating the news, as it should.
Wednesday's the first day that service members would miss a paycheck. Now,
the President did put on truth social the other day
that he was authorizing War Secretary Pete Hegseth to find
a way to make sure the troops get paid, but
there are some questions about how exactly he'd be able

(12:01):
to do that without Congressional approval. That's why you had
that idea being floated in Congress of a standalone bill
to pay our service members. So we'll see where that goes.
Obviously a lot of stress though right now for service
members and their families, But there was really nothing that
unfolded over the course of the past couple of days
that would indicate any kind of progress in terms of

(12:23):
ending this government shutdown anytime soon.

Speaker 6 (12:26):
Right. Hag Seth did send out a letter to troops
to troop member service members offering them loan options in
the time, Dean if they needed to know to carry
a float or to say a float during this shutdown. Well,
we've got a woman on trial for the murder of
her husband. Her name is Daisy Link. She's accused of
killing Pedro Jimenez three years ago. In the city of Homestead.

(12:48):
Police found the gun that was used in Bush's near
the scene. Sorry, you guys do have a con tree
and then at the bottom you have the trunk, and then.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
It had branches and bush it was inside of it. Now,
it wasn't visibly you couldn't be visible city.

Speaker 3 (13:03):
You had to kind of move out the practice in
order to see the firearm.

Speaker 6 (13:07):
There were talks of this being a case of domestic
violence to extremes her lawyer's claiming it was self defense. Now,
while in jail, this part is unbelievable. In jail, she
got pregnant by inseminating herself with the sperm of another inmate.

(13:27):
She did give birth to a little girl who is
now in the custody or being taken care of by
her family.

Speaker 4 (13:33):
So I guess she started chatting with this other inmate
through the jail's air vents and then, according to court records,
over a two month period, the other inmate, the man
was able to send it's not enclosed in plastic wrap
to her through the ventilation system. Then she used a

(13:59):
makeshift fishing line using plastic pins, some I guess, meal labels,
and string from her mattress in order to I guess.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (14:13):
But when you first hear that she got pregnant in jail,
you think, oh God, who was.

Speaker 2 (14:18):
She hooking up?

Speaker 1 (14:19):
Right right?

Speaker 5 (14:20):
Like how was this happening?

Speaker 2 (14:21):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (14:22):
Yeah, yeah, Or how did she get with an inmate,
you know, get alone with an inmate like that? No, no, no, no,
this was the whole thing they concocted and it worked.

Speaker 1 (14:33):
It's crazy. It's one of the craziest stories i'd see.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
It is totally insane. Actually.

Speaker 5 (14:38):
I think when you were out a while back when
she first got pregnant, read and I covered this story
because I remember talking about it before, and when I
saw it, I was like, wait a minute, this didn't
happen again.

Speaker 2 (14:50):
Is the same woman?

Speaker 1 (14:52):
Yeah, unbelievable.

Speaker 5 (14:54):
She was determined to have a baby, was able to
take care of because.

Speaker 6 (14:57):
She's in trouble for murder and those swimmers are pretty
strong to have survived all that.

Speaker 5 (15:02):
I mean, well, and you think about how much trouble
people go through when they have to get fertility treatments
and they have doctors and everything is very meticulously done to.

Speaker 1 (15:11):
Picture all that. You don't need that.

Speaker 4 (15:13):
You just need plastic wrap, a fishing line and meal labels,
I guess.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
And a guy hit another sell Yeah, that's all.

Speaker 1 (15:19):
She's going to come out with her own suit channel.
All right, what else is going on?

Speaker 6 (15:25):
Natalie Public's brawl caught on camera and this one landing
twenty year old at Clement Man behind bars. He's facing
a felony charge. He wielded a metal shelf in this fight. Now,
this all happened in the Colonial Plaza shopping center of
Palmeto Bay Estates, Miami. Day Sheriff's Office put out the
release of this brawl at Publics that was caught on camera. Again,

(15:49):
I have to reiterate because the scene is wild. It
starts with two women fighting on the floor near the
store's greeting card display.

Speaker 2 (15:59):
One of the wigs flies off.

Speaker 6 (16:01):
Of course, a shirtless man comes up and starts slamming
a shelf on the wigless woman while the other woman
is still pounding on her WWE style on the ground.

Speaker 4 (16:14):
Now.

Speaker 6 (16:14):
The report doesn't state what the fight was about, or
what their relationship was, if he even knew the women.
He lives close by to that store, why he was shirtless,
We don't know why he got involved.

Speaker 1 (16:25):
We don't know why the women were fighting.

Speaker 6 (16:27):
We still don't know. But that wig flying off and
that shelf slamming down, Yeah, I guess the shelf came down.

Speaker 5 (16:36):
Really kind messages. Yeah, they just knocked her right down.
I don't think Calmer has a message for this.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
So each other is a hair.

Speaker 4 (16:43):
The shelf comes down, he starts hitting the women with it,
and then I guess. A deputy who responded to the
scene said that he witnessed two large parties of people
in front of the store throwing plates and other items
at each other. I mean, this was a whole fraccue.
This was a giant brawl in publics.

Speaker 5 (17:02):
At publics, I just won't expect that in public well, I.

Speaker 4 (17:05):
Mean, if they run out of chicken tender subs or
something and you know, the person in front of you
gets the last one, I can understand things getting a
little heated. But other than that, I just I wonder
what this whole thing started over.

Speaker 5 (17:15):
But I'm going to put it on our Facebook page
at Ryan Gorman Show if anybody wants to see this,
because it's pretty entertaining.

Speaker 4 (17:21):
It's a scene. It is a scene at publics, all right.
