Speaker 2 (00:07):
The House passed the Sunshine Protection Acts with a vote
of three to zero, eight to one seventeen, which would
make daylight saving time permanent while allowing states to opt out.
The bill still needs Senate approval before the changes can
go into effect. Tampa Bay Area Congressman Verne Buchannon, who

(00:28):
was a leader in pushing this bill forward, said permanent
daylight saving time could benefit Florida's economy by providing an
extra hour of evening sunlight now. Pennsylvania Congresswoman Madeline Dean
opposed the bill, citing safety concerns from a previous period
of year round daylight saving time when children traveled to

(00:49):
school in darkness. Florida Senator Rick Scott and Senator Ashley
Moody both said they support making daylight saving time permanent.
The Senate did prove a similar bill back in twenty
twenty two, but that legislation never made it through the House.
President Trump also in favor of this. I would have

(01:11):
liked to have seen one other thing attached to this bill,
to be quite honest, and I think the opt out
I think that's really what helped push this over the
top in the house. I would have liked them to
have changed it to daylight savings time, because that's what
everybody says.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Yeah, everybody says daylight savings time even though it's saving time.
So if they could have fixed that, that would have
been nice. I'm in favor of it, but look, I
don't have to worry about kids going to the bus.
I don't have kids, and we're in the studio early
in the morning, so it doesn't matter to me when
the sun comes up. I really don't care. I like
the daylight later in the evening. So I'm totally in

(01:51):
favor of this, but I understand there are some people
who are not.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
No, I don't think it's a good idea because of
the thing with the kids go on a s and
the dark. It's already kind of a madhouse getting kids
off to school in the morning and having it be
having it be dark. Get that and get that light
out of my face.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
You know, they do light on their phone. They could
light up the school buck Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
They do all have cell phones, so I guess they
could use that for light. No, and then the other
thing that I didn't think of until I was at
the Jelly roll concert the other night. Is that when
you go to a concert, they don't go on the
main performer doesn't go on stage like nine o'clock because
it's daylight and they want to perform when it gets dark,
so they wait. Really, yes, yeah, I really feel like
that was kind of a factor. The post malone didn't

(02:34):
come on stage till almost nine o'clock.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Yeah, it's not quite You're right about that. It's not quite.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
I mean, it's a minor thing, but it's just something
that kind of stuck in my head. The other night
is like Jelly Rolls performing and it's still broad daylight out.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
And I think going back to when we talked about
this the other day, when we were discussing how this
is going to be coming up for a vote, I
think a lot of it it's going to depend on
what states opt out, because that's just going to make
things really confusing. You know, if it's a state like
I think I said, Wyoming, Uh, you know, North Dakota,
Montana Uh cares you know, you're not having a lot

(03:10):
of content.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
With business and having zoom calls and appointments with them.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Yeah. Yeah, if you've got if you've got California opting out,
New York opting in, Texas opting out, and then you
got the time zones, and like, I won't know what
the hell time it is in those places.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
Yeah, it's already complicated enough, you know, juggling the time zone,
and we're trying to book interviews with somebody in another
part of the country, let alone this This in Live.
