Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Ryan Gorman Show podcast presented by Verah and Farah
accident attorneys from Tampa.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
So when I was up in New York City last week,
the biggest topic of discussion, even more than the Taylor
Swift Travis Kelsey wedding at Madison Square Garden was the heat.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
It was so hot up there. I kept saying to people,
I'm like, I'm from Florida, and this is hot.

Speaker 4 (00:23):
It was hotter up there than it was here.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
It was.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
New York City Mayor Zora Mamdani asked residents to set
thermostats to seventy eight degrees, and god, that became controversial,
and he basically said, look, you know, we don't want
to break the power grid up here. So if you
can set your thermostat to seventy eight degrees, then what
do you set yours at?

Speaker 4 (00:46):
Mine has been at eighty, to be honest with you.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
Eighty degrees, yes, and short.

Speaker 5 (00:52):
Then I was, And then I was cleaning over the
weekend and got a little hot when I was running
around the house cleaning, and so I put it down
to seventy eight.

Speaker 4 (00:58):
But yes, I don't need it to be freezing cold
in my house.

Speaker 5 (01:02):
I like to be able to wear shorts and a
tag and top around the house and that's comfortable for me.
If it's any cooler than that, I have to wear
a sweatshirt and pants inside my house.

Speaker 4 (01:10):
And I'm like, why am I doing that?

Speaker 3 (01:12):
I do seventy six degrees.

Speaker 4 (01:14):
And so seventy eight isn't all that?

Speaker 2 (01:17):
No, no, no, not at all. I didn't think so
I didn't understand what the big controversy was. Honestly, I know,
you know Zoron Mamdani, so whatever he says is going
to be controversial. But asking people to set their thermostat
seventy eighth degrees, it wasn't like you were saying eighty
three or eighty four. And then there was this piece
in the Tampa Bay Times that laid out how best
to use your AC during Florida's summer, and it says

(01:41):
to change your air filter every month to help the
system run more efficiently.

Speaker 4 (01:45):
YEA, no, you are supposed to do that.

Speaker 5 (01:47):
I actually probably need to do it because since I
moved into my house in September.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
And then the second point was set your THERMOSTATUE at
seventy eight degrees. That's the recommendation. And then the Department
of Energy their recommendation seventy eight degrees.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
I had no.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Idea, honestly, because you hear a lot of people they
set it to like seventy two degrees, especially at night.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
Right.

Speaker 5 (02:10):
Can I go to their whole houses and I feel
like I need a blanket?

Speaker 3 (02:13):
Yeah? In my place, I keep them.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
And another tip was to keep the blinds closed during
the hottest I keep my blinds closed, like almost all
the time. I'm like a vampire in my place. I
like a very dark, cold apartment, and it keeps it
cooler throughout the day. One thing I did when I left,
and I rarely do this, is I did raise it
to like seventy nine degrees when I left.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
So I raised it. Yeah, I wasn't wasting energy. But
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
I don't know how much you saw about the whole
Zora on Mamdani seventy eight degrees thing. But you had
people they were like across the country they were setting
the thermostat to like sixty six degrees to stick it
to zoron Mamdani.

Speaker 4 (02:52):
Why you want to be that cold? They didn't have
that election.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
It's like, all right, you're owning Mumdani, but your electric
bill is going to be a fortune.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
