Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's get to today's top stories with Natalie Rodriguez. Good morning, Natalie,
Good morning.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Well, the polls are open till seven o'clock tonight, at
least in South Florida. This as voters will decide on
their Miami mayor runoff. Barry University's doctor Sean Foreman says
that these types of runoff elections don't usually get a
lot of attention, but the turnout is expected to be
a little higher than normal. Since this particular race is
(00:25):
seen by many as a test of the nation's political
mood ahead of the midterms next year, a lot of.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
People are putting a lot of stock into this race
to give them a glimpse into how politics is going
to look in twenty twenty six.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
The race itself is non partisan, partisan, partisan.
Speaker 4 (00:43):
All the way.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Gonzalez, he's writing, he's the Republican who's backed by President
Trump and Governor DeSantis, to name a few. But if
Eileen Higgins wins, she would turn to be the first
Democratic Miami mayor in over thirty years. Are just about
thirty years. There are no nonpartisan races anymore.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
Even people running for dogcatcher have their ideological views. Yeah,
Evan Power the share of the Republican Party of Floridato
political a couple of days ago.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
Quote, it's a tough district.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
My expectation is it probably doesn't perform for Republicans, but
we have to do what we have to do, fight
in every place. And about twenty three thousand ballots have
been cast between early and mail in voting, that breaks
down to about forty two percent Democrat thirty four percent Republican.
And that's with Republicans improving in early voting. They actually
(01:37):
did a lot better with early voting in this runoff
compared to the November election. Now it comes down to
day of voting, both parties getting out there November voters
and then trying to build on that. But I do
think Democrats have an edge here. And of course, if
you've been following any of the national coverage of this race,
like Natalie said, a lot of people watching this to see.
Speaker 4 (01:59):
What it could mean for twenty twenty six.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
And I'll tell you right now, whoever wins this election,
that's exactly how it's going to go in the midterm.
So they don't even need to have those elections in
twenty twenty six. We could just do one big takeaway
from this local election in Miami and determine what's going
to happen next year. But polymarket, I think it was
like ninety four percent were the odds that Eileen Higgins
(02:24):
wins the election. I think in Florida you should always
be a little cautious because Republicans are just better at
winning in this state than Democrats. But with the momentum
that Democrats have right now, they're the party out of power,
They've got a lot of energy. I wouldn't be surprised if,
in fact, I would say, if I were putting money
on it, I probably bet on Eileen.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
Higgins winning this.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
There's also a special election for Senate District eleven today
that covers the villages.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
Now, if that seat goes Democrats.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
Then Republicans have a big problem because that's a Trump
plus forty seat.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
Oh if that's the.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
One where Democrats pull it out in the villages, then
I say, all right, if I'm.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
Republicans, I'm a little concerned. What else is going on?
Recaun recount? Yeah yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
A Cinnamon employee in Wisconsin was fired after being caught
on video calling a Somali couple the N word.
Speaker 4 (03:19):
Here's some of that exchange. Are you recording I'm gonna
record you. Yes, I am racist.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
I'm racist, and I'll say that to the whole entire world.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
Don't beat you ruin your life.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
By the way, talking about you're talking about suck one.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Look how what's song with you?
Speaker 1 (03:44):
So that gives you a sense of what was going
on there. We've got the video for you to see.
If you want to check all of it out, just
follow us on x at Ryan Gorman Show.
Speaker 4 (03:53):
The woman's been identified as.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
Forty three year old Crystal Willsley, who has criminal history
spanning twenty five years. The dispute reportedly started when the
customer asked for more caramel on a cinnamon roll, and
Wilsey's attitude escalated into a full verbal attack. Now I
don't know if that was because perhaps the customer said
(04:16):
caramel instead of caramel. I can kind of understand getting
pretty angry over that it's caramel. Cinnabon released a statement
saying the behavior was unacceptable and confirmed Wilsey was immediately
terminated by the franchise owner. A Give Send Go fundraiser
supporting Wilsey popped up after the clip went viral and
(04:38):
raised more than twenty thousand dollars within two days.
Speaker 5 (04:41):
What the hell was wrong with people? Why are they
giving her money?
Speaker 1 (04:44):
I have no idea. She got a criminal history that
goes back decades. She I mean, she said on the video, Eh,
I'm racist. I know, no problem with it. Yeah, thrown
out of the endword and all of that and twenty
thousand dollars raised on her behalf. Supporters on the page
claim that customers provoked her. And look, if you're in
customer service, there are times where you're gonna have customers
(05:07):
who are gonna push it and provoke you.
Speaker 4 (05:09):
But you can't do that.
Speaker 5 (05:12):
Yeah, I mean, it's one thing if you want to
be rude to customers, but don't be racist.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
Right, and now, Willseye is denying being racist, saying she
has a quote colored sun, although she also claimed his
darker skin was due to a medical condition.
Speaker 4 (05:28):
So if I were her, I would just I would
just stop talk talking.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Yeah, put in your mouth, shut off.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
Right, Let's go back to the highline, and we're going
to our White House correspondent John Decker. Now, so John,
President Trump traveling to Pennsylvania to talk affordability. And let's
start with where he's going to be speaking. I thought
that was interesting. A casino resort.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
Yeah, the president, not a Trump casino resort, Ryan, The
President will be talking the issue of affordability and out
Pocono Pennsylvania. That's in the Pocono's northeast Pennsylvania. And the President,
I think his team recognizes this is going to be
perhaps the most important issue in the midterm elections next year,
(06:13):
and that's based upon what's happened in these elections that
we've seen over the course of the past few weeks.
And the President doesn't like the word affordability, but it's
essentially another word for talking about the economy and how
it's impacting families and voters. And look, you know, if
you want to hang onto the House and hang on
to the Senate, which Republicans certainly want to do, you
(06:33):
have to talk about the number one issue that voters
care about.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
Yeah. I'm not trying to be like overly critical or anything,
but I'm just wondering what was his team thinking. Why
are you doing an affordability event at a casino in
the poconont right.
Speaker 5 (06:50):
Yeah, where it's just all about money to gamble away.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
Yeah, Yeah, I don't quite understand that but Okay, the president,
I guess in a new interview, so he rated the
economy as a plus plus plus plus plus and and
this is I think the issue here, John, and you
covered Trump for quite some time. You know, his branding
(07:13):
is all about making everything sound amazing, you know that
he's involved in. But at the same time, like you've
got a new ABC News poll that says seven to
ten Americans say they're spending more on groceries now compared
to last year, six and ten more on utilities than
last year. So there's kind of like a conflict here
where there's the reality of what people are experiencing, but
(07:37):
then there's there's Trump's natural inclination to you know, brand
things as great, tremendous right now.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
Yeah, He's a very positive person. This is that's his nature.
So we always sees the glasses half full. The issue
and problem is I've seen this with so many presidents,
not just with President Trump. Sometimes you know, what you
say and although you're trying to talk up the economy,
it may be at odds with how people feel about
(08:07):
the economy. There's anxiety out there, and rightly so, you know,
for many people living paycheck to paycheck, and the president
sometimes has to recognize all presidents have to recognize that
not everybody feels as upbeat, you know, based upon how
they're four oh when Kay is doing that may not
be indicative of how the rest of the country feels
about the US economy.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
And that was an issue that Biden faced when he
was in office, where he and Esteem they were trying
to make it sound like, you know, the economy is good.
They're pointing to different metrics, but people weren't feeling it,
and that ultimately cost Democrats.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
It did absolutely. You know, he's the most recent example
of that. You can go back much further than that,
George H. W. Bush when he was running for reelection
in nineteen ninety two. You know, it's nothing new, but
the president has to recognize this, and perhaps he does,
perhaps team does recognize us. Remember, I mean, we're ten
(09:03):
months away from the midterms, eleven months away from the midterms,
so lots of time, you know, to focus your attention
on the issue that vote most voters. Right now. Anyway,
Ryan cares so much about.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
Our White House correspondent John Decker with US this morning. John,
really appreciate the update, Thanks so much, Thank you and again.
You can listen to John Decker's White House Briefing Room
podcast on your iHeartRadio app. It wasn't Trump that picked
the location here in Pennsylvania. You know, He's not dealing
with that kind of stuff. He's just going where his
team tells him he's going to go. But they couldn't
(09:35):
find like a small business or something, I mean, a
casino and the Poconots to talk about affordability.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
I'm just the contrast.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
Yeah, he's going to get hammered by Democrats in the
media for that, and it just seems like an unforced era.
Pennsylvania's got plenty of places to go.
Speaker 5 (09:52):
And if he's saying that the economy has an a
plus plus plus plus but then he's doing a conference
on the affordability crisis, like that doesn't sense either.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
Yeah, I think, and this is probably part of what
I'll say. You know, Biden ruined the economy. We're working
on fixing it. I think if you're trying to you
at least have to acknowledge like some people are experiencing
a tough time right now and we're working on it,
as opposed to everything's perfect right right right. Representative Jasmine
Crockett officially filed to run for the US Senate seat
(10:21):
in Texas, filing our paperwork yesterday, then later speaking to
supporters in Dallas, Texas, this moment we're in.
Speaker 4 (10:29):
Now is life or death. So no pressure. Oh my gosh,
so dramatic.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
And I mean, you know, with moments like this, why
wouldn't you think it's time to level up from the
House to the Senate.
Speaker 5 (10:46):
We are not going to sit around, well, you go
ahead and desecrate our constitution.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
Instead, we are gonna be in your face.
Speaker 5 (10:55):
We are gonna be on your asss.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
If someone on this committee then star talking about somebody's
bleach blonde, bad built bush body that would not be
engaged in personalities? Correct, what now.
Speaker 4 (11:10):
You said, calm no, no, no no, because this is
what you're not recognized.
Speaker 5 (11:17):
You don't want mom down, No, please call downll me
to calm down, town.
Speaker 2 (11:21):
How's y'all top down? And then you were out of controls.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
I mean, she's a perfect fifth of the essential wake
Mitch McConnell, right up, Yes she will.
Speaker 4 (11:33):
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
Her entry comes just hours after Colin Allread, the twenty
twenty four Democratic nominee, dropped out of the race and
switched to a run for a House seat. That leaves
Crockett facing State Representative James tell Rico, progressive Loston lawmaker
with his own kind of grassroots following. And look, she's
got a lot of money, five million dollars in campaign cash,
(11:57):
and she's going to raise a ton I can guarantee
you that, Oh.
Speaker 5 (12:01):
She absolutely is, because even though she doesn't really seem
to ever talk about how she's going to make things better,
like does she have any plans? But she focuses on
just being angry, being outraged at Trump and ral going viral.
She's got all those social media fans. So yeah, I
think she's gonna raise a ton of money.
Speaker 4 (12:19):
Yeah, and then she'll lose.
Speaker 1 (12:21):
So she's blaming redistricting in Texas for her decision to
run for this Senate seat, saying, you know, Republicans they
redrew her Dallas district, so it just made sense for
her to level up. And she claims her internal numbers
show that she can win a general election to public
poll though, has shown her beating any of the Republican candidates.
(12:44):
You've got John Cornyn, you've got Ken Paxton, all running
for that that Senate seat. So look, Republicans, they couldn't
have asked for a better set.
Speaker 4 (12:55):
She's a gift. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
Now, if Republicans and going forward with Ken Paxton, I
think that's going to be the most interesting grace in
the country.
Speaker 4 (13:05):
He's got so much baggage.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
She's got so much baggage, I mean, and the two
of them honestly a lot of drama. Yeah, just like,
have cameras following them around twenty four to seven and
run it on some network because the content is going
to be unbelievable. Now what that means for the country,
that's a whole different story.
Speaker 4 (13:27):
We'll see.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
If it's Cornyn I think he beats her handily in
a general election, but he's got to get past that
Republican primary race first.
