Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Ryan Gorman Show podcast presented by Farah and Farah
Accident Attorney's Tampa.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
The IndyCar season kicks off this week in saying Peter
Firestone Grand Prix in one car is going to be
carrying a special message and mission Santino for entry from
aj Foyd Racing teaming up with Homes for our troops
and joining us this morning are Santino and the organization's
president retired. Bringing to your general Tom landwor Meyer, I
(00:28):
want to thank you about so much for coming on
the show and Santino before we get into the race itself.
You know this isn't just another cool looking paint job
on an IndyCar. What does it mean to you personally
to carry homes for our troops such a tremendous organization
helping severely injured veterans on your car to open the season.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Of course, I mean, I'm absolutely thrilled to be working
with some Shark troops, Tom our veterans. You know, my
grandfather was a veteran so and from the Marines, and
you know, just being able to to celebrate these guys,
you know, are severely injured post nine eleven veterans is
a big deal this year, especially with you know, America's
(01:09):
two hundred and fiftieth, the twenty five year date of
nine to eleven. You know, we're just trying to get
as much recognition for these veterans as we can, raise
as much money as we can, and really change the
lives of these guys who fought for our country and
our freedoms that we have today.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
Does racing for a cause like this change your mindset
at all when you're out there.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
I would say it definitely does. You know, there's always
a little bit of added pressure, so you know, the
funny thing is about it will be you know, I
generally tend to stand out from the crowd. Running a red,
white and blue American flag car definitely helps with that too.
So I think I'm prepared to take on that challenge
(01:54):
in that pask and you know, especially when we come
to races like Dnianapolis five hundred or you know, Saint
Petersburg or DC, you know, some of those big landmark
races for us to really put this thing out front
and try and get some victories and.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
Raise a lot of money and awareness.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
We're joined right now by Santino for Rucci IndyCar driver
for aj Foyd Racing is going to be participating in
the Firestone Grand Prix this week in Saint Pete. You know,
Saint Pete's a tight street course. What kinds of unique
challenges does it pose for drivers and how does it
set the tone for the rest of the season.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
Yeah, obviously we're starting off in Saint Pete street course.
We have four races almost back to back, so you know,
none of us have been in the IndyCar racing since September,
so everybody gets a little antsy. Saint Pete's a real
technical street course. Qualifying is rather important. What we're doing
this year with the strategy of tires is going to
(02:53):
be important. So you know, I'm just I think that
we've been good there in the past. I've got a
few time Thames there. I think we can turn it
up a notch and see if we can't start this
season off really strong with a little bit of hardware.
So and that'll set the tone for hopefully the rest
of the season.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
Well, obviously we're rooting for you to win the race,
especially carrying homes for our troops on your car. We're
also joined by retired Brigadier General Tom Land Or Meyer,
President and CEO of Homes for Our Troops. You can
learn more about this organization at HFOTUSA dot org. General
(03:31):
landword Meyer. For people just hearing about your organization, give
us a quick overview of the work you do.
Speaker 5 (03:39):
Sure I appreciate having us today. Homes for Troops is
a national charity. We've been around since two thousand and
four and we're located just outside of Boston, Massachusetts, where
our headquarters is. Our mission is to build especially adapted
custom homes across the country and then we donate them
to the most severely injured post on looking veterans to
(04:00):
belinan to rebuild their lives. To date, we built and
donated four hundred and thirty homes across forty six states.
We've got seventy one projects under way across the country
another one hundred plus veterans any application process of our program,
we put on the ground about twenty to twenty five
homes a year.
Speaker 4 (04:18):
We don't advertise much.
Speaker 5 (04:20):
Almost ninety cents of every dollar goes to our program,
so we need all the help we can get as
far as support and awareness, and we couldn't be happier
with the partnership that's been formed this year between aj
Foyd Racing, Hindred Commercial Properties and Homes for our troops.
We think it's phenomenal. Frankly, having been around Santino and
(04:42):
aj Foyd Racing for a few years now, we wouldn't
want any other driver or any other team to be
partnered with their top of the line.
Speaker 4 (04:50):
As you can listen to Santino, he knows all about us.
Speaker 5 (04:53):
But we're really looking forward to aj FOROD Racing, the
Santino running that car all year long and Hendrix's Commercial
Properties kind of footing the bill as the primary sponsor,
but turning the light onto us, shining it brightly.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
On us for our awareness.
Speaker 5 (05:08):
And we think it's going to be full of the
opportunities this year.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
And you were recently here in the Tampa Bay area
donating a home to a veteran.
Speaker 5 (05:18):
We've kicked one off very recently in Lithia just outside
of Tampa there, and we should be given that home
away in probably the mayor June time frame, and then
in a couple of weeks on the sixth of March,
we're going to be doing a dual kickoff ceremony for
two veterans up in San Antonio, Florida, just north of Tampa.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
And having your organization on an indy car like this,
having that logo seen by millions again, like you said,
all season long, how does a partnership like that translate
into real help to accomplish the mission you're on.
Speaker 5 (05:56):
Well, this started a few years back with our Platine
corporate partner at ABC Supply Company, and they had been
sponsoring an any car for many, many years, and they
decided about four years ago to make it all about us.
So they put that livery on the car and during
the month of May they would put a big matchup
(06:16):
for donations that we would get and they sponsored the
car during eighty five hundred and what we saw during
those months of May is increased donations, increase awareness, increased
visits to our website. All those kind of indicators went
up and it was a big help. But this year
we're talking about inter commercial property sponsoring this car for
(06:38):
eighteen races all year long, and this could be a
real game changer for US with national level awareness.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
Retired Brigadier General Tom Landermeier, President and CEO of Homes
for our Troops and Santino for Ruchie IndyCar driver with
AJ Foyt Racing, driving the Homes for our Troops car
this week at the Firestone Grand Prix of Saint Peene
and all IndyCar season long. You can learn more about
(07:06):
this organization at HFOTUSA dot org. General Landramier, I want
to thank you so much for the great work you're doing. Santino,
want to thank you for coming on the show and
best of luck driving the Red, White and Blue this
week in Saint Pete. We're going to be rooting for you.
Speaker 4 (07:22):
Thank you so much. I really appreciate it time this morning. Yeah,
thanks very much for the time. Week.
