Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Ryan Gorman Show podcast presented by Vera and Farah
accident attorneys from Tampa.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Now, let's get to another top story recovering this morning
yesterday's mass shooting at a San Diego mosque. Five people
are dead, three victims and the two suspected shooters, who
were seventeen and eighteen years old. This is what San
Diego Police Chief Scott Wall had to say about how
the suspects died.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
So the suspects at this point appear to have died
from self inflicted gunshot wounds. There were no officers involved
in firing their weapons.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
A mom Taha has seen from the Islamic center of
San Diego, spoke to reporters following the shooting.
Speaker 4 (00:45):
We have never experienced a tragedy like this before, and
at this moment, all what I can say is sending
our prayers and standing in solidarity with all the families
in our community.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
Here.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Authorities are considering it a hate crime. Anti Islamic writings
were found inside the suspects vehicle, and the suicide note
was left behind that included writings about racial pride. Police
had apparently already been searching for them before the shooting.
The two suspects after one suspect's mother reported her son
was missing, suicidal, and in possession of firearms. One of
(01:26):
the victims was a mosque security guard the law enforcement
believe saved lives by keeping the gunmen from progressing beyond
the front area of the mosque. We're going to have
more on this throughout the morning, including what FBI Director
Cash Ptel had to say about it, and we'll check
in with a retired FBI Special Agent in charts, Rich Frankel,
for some analysis in the eight o'clock hour. Of course,
(01:47):
you can listen live all morning long, no matter where
you are or what you're doing. Pull up WFLA if
you're in the Tampa Bay area or wiod appear in
South Florida on your iHeartRadio app. Make them a pre set,
and I'm telling you it's the best way to listen
throughout the morning. Let's bring in former FBI Special Agent
in charge Rich Frankel now for some analysis of the
(02:07):
San Diego mosque shooting that left three victims dead and
the two suspects dead as well. Rich, thanks so much
for joining us this morning. What stands out to you
based on all the information that we've gathered since the
sincident took place yesterday.
Speaker 5 (02:22):
Yeah, so we don't know a lot about the two youths.
I guess you'd call him the seventeen and eighteen year
old who committed the crime. We do know that it
appears that the mother of one of them called into
police to see that the son had left the house,
(02:42):
possibly wearing came count fatigues and also with three weapons.
But we don't know specifically what they were going there for.
There is a further indications there was hate hate type
(03:03):
messages in the in the car, whether it was written
on the car or down in the car, but not
a lot more about like how they got to this point.
We also found out that they may have been involved
in the shooting just immediately before this, where a groundskeeper
or a landscaper was was shot. And so all this was,
(03:27):
you know, swirls around the fact that these two individuals
did kill three innocent victims at the at the mosque.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
Yeah, it certainly looks like they went to that mosque
for a specific reason, likely tied to very hateful ideology
and wanted to commit mass murder. One thing that that
stood out to me is the fact that this time
and it's not like we haven't seen this before, but
it's rare. Usually we have one mass shooter. This time
(04:00):
time there were two.
Speaker 5 (04:02):
You're very very correct, you know, you go back to
Columbine there were two, a couple more here and there,
But you're right. Usually it's one person, it's a lone
wolf shooting. You know, this time we had the two shooters.
So how did they connect? Are they are they buddies?
Are they you know, from the same neighborhood, the same school.
(04:24):
Did they connect to ideology? Or is there something even
more sinister to it? Is this part of a group?
That they were part of a group? Are there others
that we need to be aware of that law enforcement
needs to be aware of, so that in case there's
a further threat, That's where I want the investigation kind
(04:45):
of looking towards. Do we have any further threats at
this time? You know, I know that San Diego police
said that there's no immediate threat, and I believe them
in that. It's just that going forward, is there a threat? Again,
we don't know how these guys got radicalized into the
hate crime. Also, I want to find out is it
(05:06):
hate crime? In other words, are these two individuals, just
two people who hated Muslims, you know, and somehow got
together or are they part of of a network of
a group, of a terror group that wants to do more?
Speaker 2 (05:20):
And final thing that I think, uh, everyone would like
to know is were their red flags? Because we see
time and time again in these cases that there were
often a lot of warning signs that people saw. Some
people might have missed, but there were indications that you know,
(05:44):
the person who is at the center of a horrific
crime like this, that that they were headed down this
road for.
Speaker 5 (05:50):
A while exactly. You know, that goes back that sees something,
say something campaign where you know, people around them if
they if they saw this, hopefully they would have noted
by police.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
So what did But but did she know anything before,
you know, further in advance of what unfolded yesterday?
Speaker 5 (06:09):
Exactly was there anything that led them to this? You know,
he had the uh, the fatigues or the you know,
the camoflage fatigues. Why did he have that? Is he hunter?
I mean there could be legitimate reasons why he had that.
He wanted to go into the army, you know there
you know there, you know he's seventeen or eighteen years
old he had from Halloween? Who who knows why he
had it? But are there other indicators you know that
(06:30):
he would espouse you know this hatred. You don't go
from zero to one hundred, right, you know that quickly
where you know you're not saying anything and then the
next day you're you're you have three weapons with your
buddy and you're you're shooting up you know. Uh, it's
Alanic Center that appears to have no connection to him.
It was so far.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
That's the thing.
Speaker 5 (06:51):
Is there anyone at that school that they knew and
that's why they went there. So there's a whole bunch
of investigation that you know at FBI San Diego Sheriff
Police they will have to they really still have to
dig into, all right.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
FBI Former FBI Special Agent Charge Rich Frankel with us
this morning. Rich, thanks so much, appreciate it.
Speaker 5 (07:09):
Thank you.
