Let's bring in ABC News correspondent Jordana Miller coming to
us live from Israel this morning. So, Jordana, it looks
like if everything goes according to plan, the naval blockade
will be back in effect at four pm today. Tell
us what has unfolded over the past twenty four hours.

Iran firing on more ships, more US strikes on Iran,
and then that announcement from President Trump.

We've seen more exchanges of intense fire between the US
and Iran over the last twenty four hours. Sancom says
it hit again dozens of targets in southern Iran. It
looks like the United States is trying to target Iranian
(00:58):
launching pads, drones, radar systems really all along Iran's coast
that lines the Strait of Hormus, And that would make
sense since the United States has said the aim is
to degrade Iran's ability to actually fire on vessels in
(01:21):
the strait. But despite those intense attacks, Iran was still
able to hit two huge tankers that belonged to the
Emirates in the southern part of the Strait of Hormus
that is along the Omani route, hugging the Omani coast.
The one Indian national was killed, several others were injured.
(01:45):
Huge fires broke out, they were brought under control, and
thankfully there's not any major oil leaks right in the strait.
But it just goes to show that Iran still has
the ability and the will to strike, and they continue
doing that in the early hours of the morning, firing
(02:06):
on Bahrain, firing on Jordan, and you know, this again
shows that Iran is willing to it looks like reignite
this war over the issue of the Straight.

Of hor Moves.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
Iran wants to have full control over the Straight of
Hor Moves and it's clear that President Trump does not
want that to happen, will not let that happen, and
that's why he has reimposed the US naval blockade, which
will begin at four pm Eastern. You know, there was
a lag between the President's announcement and when it will
(02:45):
start because it's a complicated issue. It's a legal issue.
Insurance companies and shippers have to have a certain amount
of warning before the blockade begins. And then we heard
the President say that the United States will control the
straight and even charge twenty percent on the cargo that
goes through as a kind of tax. Now that position,
(03:10):
that position goes against everything we've heard, for you know,
previously from the President and from his advisors and the
Secutor of State Rubia, who said that no country will
be allowed to charge tolls. So we'll see if the
President follows through with that threat. But everyone here again
on pins and needles, Ryan wondering, you know how many
(03:31):
days this is going to go on? How long is
this escalation? Will Israel enter the fray in some in
one way or another, which we'll bring it into another
level of intensity. A lot of anxiety again here.

There was another big development I want to get to.
I think it's a big development. We're joined by ABC
News correspondent or Dana Miller, come into his life from
the Middle East. Reports that Saudi Arabia looking to go
after Houthi rebels in Yemen. There's been a little bit
of a back and forth between the Jutis and Saudi
(04:07):
Arabia recently. Tell us what you know about that and
if that were to open up as another front in
this broader war, what that could mean.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
Right, So this is a very significant development, even though
it kind of has fallen under the radar of the
headlines for the region. Remember, Yemen is in the middle
of a civil war. Iran is backing the Houties and
the Saudis, and the western world right are backing a Saudi,
(04:44):
a Saudi, the Yemeny, the Yemenite government and the Houtis
control the Sana International Airport. And you know, in a
very kind of bold step, the Saudis decided that they
were going to to bomb the airport yesterday and prevent
Iran from landing aircraft there because the Iranians support and
(05:11):
armed the Huties, and this was Saudi Arabia's first strike
against the Hutis, and Aran's really Iran's involvement in Yemen.
The Jutis fired back on riod On Jetta, back and forth,
and there are reports that the president, President Trump was
(05:33):
looped in to what the Saudis wanted to do, that
he gave his approval for the fight. And I think,
you know, it's an important step against the Jutis who
have been threatening the region. They also used to fire
on cargo vessels, so I think the fear is at
number one, they could restart their attacks on shipping vessels
(05:58):
in the Strait of Hormuz. Also that they could restart
their attacks on Israel. But perhaps the most important things
that they if they would close their own Straight there,
that they control the Manda Balbaba Street, which would further
choke the gas and oil markets and disrupt them and
(06:24):
drive oil prices up again. And that's the real danger here,
that perhaps they would announce the closure of that port.
So far they haven't done it.

That's what I'm going to be watching for. I think
it's important to pay attention to the aspect, Like you said,
kind of flying under the radar a bit. ABC News

to Aroan. There's so much to talk about. What I
thought was interesting yesterday you had President Trump saying that
he wants to put a twenty percent tax basically on
ships passing through the Strait to compensate us for keeping
the Straight safe, although I don't know how safe it
is at the moment, and then Iran responded and they said, yeah,
(07:16):
whoever keeps the straight secure should get compensated, and we'll
do it for less than twenty percent.
Speaker 4 (07:21):
So yeah, that's the back and forth going on.
Speaker 5 (07:24):
Now, we've saw another night of military strikes by the
US really targeting a lot of that port infrastructure that
Iran has. As limited as it may be, but we've
got the Usavy launching that blockade again today and these
strikes have really taken out Iran's capabilities to import or
export anything.
Speaker 4 (07:44):
You know, they've been so badly damaged these past couple months.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
Yeah, when you look at at gas prices, because obviously
with the blockade going back into effect and just what
we're seeing with the strait, that's what comes to mind,
I think for most Americans when you look at gas prices,
they actual have gone down over the past couple of
days here in Florida. That's not going to last. Oil
prices haven't skyrocketed. They're trading between like eighty dollars and

eighty six dollars a barrel. One thing that's different, though,
if this starts to get really dicey, is that you
have and this is something that hasn't gotten a lot
of attention, but it's really important. You've had these big
attacks by Ukraine on Russian oil infrastructure, which is impacting
(08:31):
the global oil market, and if you combine that with
the situation in this straight deteriorating even more so than
where it is right now, you could see oil prices
really start to go up quickly again and gas prices
will will follow.
Speaker 6 (08:50):
Well, because then you're really getting into a supply issue,
right because the capacity to refine is being taken out
in Russia by Ukraine. Because that capacity is being taken offline,
you actually don't have the oil and gas to sell.
I mean, it's sort of different from these shipping challenges
and it's not in the right place or whatever like
(09:11):
that can cause these little spikes in distribution disruptions, but
when you actually just don't have it, that's a different problem.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
Yeah, And so that's I think keeping a close eye
on that over the next few days, and we'll work
on getting Patrick Dahn from Gas Buddy back on with
us to give us some insight. But that's something that
I think another component to all of this, the could
factor in that wasn't as big of an issue back
when this war first started and oil prices spiked and
(09:43):
gas prices went up. Really, Ukraine has made some big
moves more recently with their attacks on Russia. The could
factor in here. And then earlier in the show, we
talked to Jordana Miller who came to his life on
the Middle East and talked about the situation between Saudi
and ra and the hoo Thy's and Yemen and the
possibility the hoo th these this time around, they could

close that waterway which has been a threat this entire time.
