Speaker 3 (00:09):
The attorney for the suspect accused of killing two Universities
of South Florida doctoral students, entered a plea of not
guilty on his behalf on Monday, Ishamabuabre facing two capital
murder charges for the deaths of Nahda Bristi and Zamiel Lamone.
In mid April, the state attorney Susie Lopez showed up
to the arrangement. She says the state will seek the
(00:30):
death penalty for the suspect. Albugarby not present in the
courtroom and trial not expected until late twenty twenty seven.
Speaker 4 (00:38):
Yea, how about that. We're in May of twenty twenty
six now, I guess. State attorney Susie Lopez said, both
sides are working through a couple of terabytes worth of
discovery as they prepare for the case. And so I
know a gigabyte is a lot, So a terabyte that
must be just a lot of documents in.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
It, a lot of high rise images.
Speaker 4 (00:59):
Yeah, and they take up a lot of data, right right,
So it's going to be a while before this trial
gets started. But going for the death penalty is interesting
because we just talked yesterday about the outcome in the
Julio Fulio murder case, where it was clearly a premeditated murder.
They got the suspects dead to rights in that case,
(01:19):
but they couldn't get the necessary votes to get the
death penalty. Yeah, gang on gang violence probably a weaker
part of the case this one. You've got good DNA evidence,
You've got right, you've got they've got some.
Speaker 5 (01:33):
DNA, they have a lot of evidence like that.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
Yeah, you've got location data, you've got damning chat GPT conversations,
you've got suspicious purchases, you've got a history of anger
and violence. The two things that you don't have here,
which would really make it a slam dunk is you
don't have any witnesses and you don't have a confession.
But I do think this probably has a better chance
(01:57):
of successfully getting the death penalty for with this suspect
and what we saw in the Julio Fulio murder case.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
Yeah, I mean it's definitely a different kind of case
than what we just saw with the you know, rapper.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
Murder and gruesome too. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
Absolutely, I think what they're going to have to show though,
is that you know, the motive was such that it
was something that you know, was premeditated and clearly out
of some kind of malice rather than a mental problem, right,
because that obviously complicates the matter for the prosecution.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
Oh, and that's what the defense is going to use.
There's no question they're going to bring up mental issues.
Speaker 4 (02:28):
We saw it in the Julio Fulia murder case where
they were saying, this person's got an intellectual disability and
this person's got PTSD.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
Right.
Speaker 5 (02:35):
Well, and we don't know really what the motive was
in this case, Like we haven't heard of any type
of dispute between the roommate and him or any like
real reason why he would have wanted to kill them
other then he was just a nut.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
It does seem well planned though, So Yeah, he wanted
to do this for a while. Yeah. I think they're
going to nail him on that.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
Yeah, still need a motive though, Yeah, And Dana brings
up a good point exactly what was the reason for that? Yeah,
and that you know, horrific nature of the crime.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
