Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, Dragon, We're able to find a really good substitute
host this.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Morning, or is it going to be more of the same, old,
same old.

Speaker 3 (00:06):
Oh we got the best in studio right now. No
more Brian Schuestring.

Speaker 4 (00:14):
I think Dragon's just sucking up because he's got to
spend the next four hours with Jimmy Sangenberger here with
you today on this Independence Day, Eve and Dragon, Good morning, brother,
It is wonderful.

Speaker 5 (00:29):
It is to see you, dude, it is, seriously, it
really is the.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
First thing when I saw you coming out letting you
into the building this morning.

Speaker 5 (00:35):
I love that T shirt, man, that's a great shirt.

Speaker 4 (00:38):
I am wearing a T shirt version of Captain Kirk's
shirt from the original Star Trek series. We'll get to
Kirk and fin ex Bo Denver and my interview alongside
Mandy Connell the other day over on her sister station
of KOA here in just a little bit, and we're
gonna have some fun with that. But I have some

(01:00):
news that we got to get right into this morning,
and of course we do welcome your participation. Three three
one zero three is the text line Goober's text Mike
or Michael to make sure yours truly, Jimmy Sangenberger sees
what you text in. So are you familiar with Wanda James,

(01:23):
the su University of Colorado regent for Denver representing the
first Congressional district. Well, if you are not, you're probably
better off for it. But I'm gonna make you introduced
to Wanda James. Nonetheless, because she is not just a
CU regent, she is also a pioneer in legalized pot.

(01:50):
She owns a dispensary called Simply Pure. She is a
self described pothead who gets elevated daily, and she has
been waging war on the Colorado School of Public Health
and in particular since late January.

Speaker 5 (02:11):
It's t on THHC.

Speaker 4 (02:15):
Campaign that is a public health campaign THCHC, of course,
being that well high potency ingredient in marijuana that has
only gotten higher and hire in potency and poses risks
to children and to pregnant mothers. There are risks, of

(02:39):
course to anybody, but in particular those two groups, and
those are the groups that are particularly targeted by this
awareness campaign that draws from sixty six thousand scientific articles.

Speaker 5 (02:54):
It is award winning.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
It was created by the legislature and funded by marijuana
taxes and the campaign designed by Public Benefit Corporation in
nishim Health. Now, Wanda James, who is black, had demanded
that t on thc dot org be taken down immediately

(03:17):
for including racist illustrations of black children in utero and older,
even though identical images of white children appeared in the campaign. Now,
this is an important aspect that Wanda James never talks about.
The images are exactly the same except different races, because
they're trying to target different groups in the marketing campaign,

(03:40):
which is understandable in fact, and this is something I've
written about. I'm a twice weekly columnist for the Denver Gazette,
and I've written about a growing body of medical literature,
including among black and brown medical providers and experts in

(04:00):
the field, that supports the approach of including imagery that
will relate to black and brown communities over whitewashing medical
illustrations because the whole idea is representation, so people will
connect with the imagery. More Moreover, other key figures involved

(04:25):
in this campaign, including a film producer for It, Brynmore Williams,
and former Broncos player Brandon Lloyd, are also black, but
none of that mattered. Because Wandad James threw a fit,
the images were taken down. The school issued an apology.
The School of Public Health was predominantly the University of Colorado,

(04:45):
but also includes a couple of other university campuses. Now James,
Wanda James had helped Governors John hick and Looper and
Jared Polis, whose campaign she ran in two thousand and
six when he ran for Congress the first time, shape
marijuana regulations governing businesses like hers. So she took credit

(05:06):
eagerly for the removal of the images, but she didn't
stop targeting the campaign that raised the ire and the well,
we'll really raised the scrutiny of the CU Board of Regents.
Chairman Chairwoman Cali Renaisson, a Boulder Democrat, and Vice chair

(05:28):
Ken Montera, a Colorado Springs Republican, paired up to say, look,
we're gonna dig into this because Wanda James had been
pushing and saying. She reached out to the Governor's office
to get all of the funding stripped from this program,
from this campaign to educate the public on the potential

(05:54):
harms and impacts of high potency THC and pot. She
wanted that fund to completely cut the Governor's office in fact,
dutifully sent a letter to the Joint Budget Committee and
the end of January, I think January thirty first, saying hey,
we want to get rid of this, please join budget
committee and funding for the program all together. Not only

(06:19):
did she claim that the images were racist, but as
he continued to push on this again the images were
taken down, she continued to push on this and attacked
the science of it. She accused the awareness campaign again
based on sixty six thousand academic articles, scientific articles, and

(06:44):
the science was put together by cu Scientists School of
Public Health Scientists, but she accused them of peddling debunked
claims and quote weaponizing black babies, black boys, and black
men to promote a quote false and dangerous narrative that
cannabis use stunts brain development. Now, what's the news last night, well,

(07:12):
yesterday afternoon. Rather, in a vote of seven to one
to one, that is to say, with only one regent
voting no and Wanda James abstaining, a bipartisan solid majority
of the nine member Board of Regents voted to censure
in sanction Wanda James. But before the vote happened, Of course,

(07:36):
there were a number of different comments made, remarks from
different members, including Wanda James herself.

Speaker 6 (07:44):
Today is not about a censure, It is about censorship
and retaliation.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
I was elected by the people of Colorado.

Speaker 6 (07:53):
I was not hired by this board, and I will
not be silenced by its.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
Traditions or afraid of this vote.

Speaker 6 (08:00):
I am being targeted for raising my voice against a
campaign that demeaned, dehumanized, and harmed the black community.

Speaker 4 (08:08):
Ah. Yes, so you continue to push, push, push to
defund a program of the university that you were on
the board of Regents to oversee, and you are a
victim of racism. In fact, she accused her colleagues of
simply saying it was her speaking out against racism that

(08:28):
is getting her in trouble.

Speaker 6 (08:29):
We are here today because my fellow regents and these
political law firms they hired think that I violated my
duties as a.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
Regent by speaking out against racism. Let me say that again.

Speaker 6 (08:43):
They think I violated my duties by speaking out against racism.

Speaker 4 (08:50):
Is that really the case or is there something more
to it?

Speaker 5 (08:54):
Here? Is Regent Speagel on this a Democrat.

Speaker 7 (08:58):
When she first brought insensitive images to my attention.

Speaker 5 (09:02):
I offered support.

Speaker 7 (09:03):
Regent James thanked me and said it was being taken
care of. I want to take a minute to thank
President Solomon and Chancellor Elleman for addressing those concerns swiftly
and thoughtfully by removing the images, making amends publicly, and
putting additional oversight in place.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
That is what responsible leadership looks like.

Speaker 4 (09:24):
They responded, they handled it, and got the images taken down.

Speaker 5 (09:31):
That is Elana Spiegel.

Speaker 4 (09:33):
She is a member of the Board of Regents, one
of Wanda james colleagues. Well here's another colleague of hers,
Elliot Hood, another Democrat, dismantling some of Wanda's key claims.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
I am glad that the university was so quick to
respond to your concerns and that the program and the
marketing company took responsibility for the images and the harm
they caused. But you chose to go further. You were
angry about the images, and you believed, based on your
experience in the cannabis industry, that the program was spreading

(10:06):
inaccurate information about cannabis. So in the days and weeks
after the images had been removed, and after the programs
had taken full responsibility for those images. You continued to
publicly attack the program and to discredit the integrity of
its research. In a public statement, you called the program
scientifically dishonest, claimed that it is pushing dangerous misinformation and

(10:30):
had a shocking lack of scientific integrity. In news articles,
you implied that the campaign was based on faulty research
and that its findings are not based on science and
are objectively wrong. None of these statements were accompanied by
citations to competing sourcess research contradicting the program's findings, or
any other evidence that would substantiate your actuations about either

(10:55):
the methodology or the findings of this research. You also
publicly advocated for the state to cut the program's entire
two million dollar budget.

Speaker 5 (11:03):
And there it is.

Speaker 4 (11:04):
She didn't present any science, but in the meeting yesterday,
and she spoke first before her colleagues, she doubled down
on junk science.

Speaker 6 (11:13):
This was a two million dollar state funded campaign with
CU's name all over it, targeting the black community with
tire tropes recycled drunk junk science.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
Of course I spoke as a regent. I had a
duty to do so.

Speaker 6 (11:29):
And what did CU's leadership do They stalled, they debated,
and not one of you regents responded to my text
when I asked for your help.

Speaker 5 (11:40):
Wow, what a victim Wanda James is. Poor Wanda.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
I'm playing the world's smallest harmonica right now for Wanda James.
Look if look again. She is an executive in the
space of marijuana. She's a nationally known pot shop owner,
loves to tell the history that she has made and

(12:05):
being the first owning the first black owned legal pot shop.
Imagine if an executive from the oil industry was on
the Board of Regents and talked about junk science on
climate change from SEU scientists. Imagine what would happen then

(12:26):
and what Wanda James would probably say.

Speaker 5 (12:30):
Now, what is striking.

Speaker 4 (12:33):
Is how she would dispute as well, that she was
engaged in a backdoor, back room lobbying campaign. Here is
something that Wanda James said to dismiss the idea that
she had any sort of conflicts or any sort of problems.

Speaker 6 (12:48):
This board and the political firms they hired believe I
conducted some secret backroom lobbying campaign to pull these funds
one percent faults. The governor proposed cutting the funds t
on THHG campaign three months before I'd even seen the campaign.

Speaker 2 (13:08):
Don't believe me. Just read the statement that the governor
put out today. The narrative that I.

Speaker 6 (13:14):
Used in my influence, the narrative that I used my
influence to defund the program is once again flat out faults.

Speaker 2 (13:22):
The decision had already been made.

Speaker 4 (13:25):
Interesting and interesting how she talks about political law firms.
Stan Garnett is one of the named partners for one
of the law firms. He's a former Boulder District attorney.
And then you have a law firm that includes at
least one noted Republican lawyer. That's bipartisan and that's not political.
That is looking at it from the lens of we

(13:46):
want to make sure that there is fairness here. And
we put two law firms together and they did an investigation.
I read it last night, thirty three pages, very extensive. Well,
let's look at Wanda contradiction herself. What you just heard
right there courtesy of again Democrats.

Speaker 5 (14:05):
See you reagent Elliot Hood.

Speaker 1 (14:07):
As part of this effort, you told the press and
a group of Black su leaders that you were working
directly with the governor's office to pull the program's funding.
Implying that you had a special access and influence in
the state's budgeting process. You now admit that you did not,
in fact work with the Governor's office to reduce the funding,
because you allege that the decision to pull the funding

(14:30):
had already been made. This means that you either were
working with that office to pull the funding, you misrepresented
the actions you were taking, or you were trying to
take credit for something that you knew was already happening.
Whichever conclusion is true, none of them reflect a regent
acting with Duke care in the interest of or with
loyalty to see you.

Speaker 5 (14:50):
Game set match.

Speaker 8 (14:52):
Now.

Speaker 4 (14:52):
Wanda James, who of course has business interests at stake
from her industry being impacted potentially by this campaign, though
insisted sheeez, well, you'll have to hear for herself.

Speaker 6 (15:04):
I came into this role unbought, unbossed, and unafraid, and
I remain I remain exactly that, because that's what this
university actually needs, not your constant silence.

Speaker 5 (15:21):
Fearless wy Did James. Here's elliot hood again.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
The bottom line is, regardless of your personal feelings or interests,
there was simply no justifiable reason to publicly and continuously
smear this research program, attempt to discredit the research of
our scientists, and advocate to pull their funding. That is
especially true today when university research programs face significant funding uncertainty,

(15:46):
and overt hostility from certain corners of the government. Our
scientists need our support now more than ever. They do
not need their elected leaders casting unfounded doubt on the
integrity of their will.

Speaker 4 (15:58):
Oh no, no, no, Elliott Hood see you, Regent at
Large for the entire state of Colorado, Democrat, You should
be listening to your fellow Democrats. The one who needs
allies is Wanda James.

Speaker 6 (16:10):
Because I had nearly no anti racist allies on this board,
with the exception of Nolbert Chavez, I had to use
my voice elsewhere.

Speaker 2 (16:20):
On my personal LinkedIn accounts, with my private email.

Speaker 6 (16:24):
Judging by the silent faces of my fellow regent staring
back at me right now, it looks like I am
still largely.

Speaker 2 (16:30):
On my own.

Speaker 4 (16:31):
Apparently you were largely on your own, and with good reason.
You deserve to be censured and also sanctioned. So, for example,
she's been stripped of her committee assignments.

Speaker 5 (16:42):
She has also.

Speaker 4 (16:45):
Been removed or disinvited from different events. As I understand it,
she's no longer going to be an honored guest at
see you football games. The Buffs are probably going to
have a better season as a.

Speaker 5 (16:57):
Result of that.

Speaker 4 (16:59):
But seriously, the way in which Wander James is acted
and with this sense of self righteous indignation is astonishing
to colleagues, and a bipartisan basis resoundingly vote to center her.
But what does she do that morning of yesterday before

(17:20):
the center vote four months the investigators tried to get
comments from the governor Polis her buddy, and it finally
came at seven point thirty two am yesterday when there
was a statement emailed from the governor's chief legal counsel
trying to say, oh, look, you know, the governor doesn't

(17:44):
have any recollection of speaking with Wanda James. He was
aware of insensitive images, this and that. He put in
his budget requests so on and so forth, and saying
we originally were trying to cut funding for the program
back in November, which is true.

Speaker 5 (18:01):
They wanted to cut it in half.

Speaker 4 (18:03):
It was four million dollars cut in half. But then
here timing with Wanda James, they want to cut it
all together. And Wanda's talking publicly about how she wants
the money to go to pop businesses like hers that
are owned by a minority pot shop owners. I mean,
at the very least, that gives the great appearance of impropriety,

(18:26):
conflict of interest, self interest, not following through on.

Speaker 5 (18:29):
The duties of a region.

Speaker 4 (18:31):
Kudos for the by part is in majority seven members
on the Board of Regents voting to center and sanction
Wanda James well deserved.

Speaker 7 (18:43):
Jimmy, I think it's trust the science.

Speaker 2 (18:46):
Trust the science, Trust the science. Hun tell it doesn't
fit your narrative.

Speaker 5 (18:52):
Ain't that the truth?

Speaker 4 (18:53):
Jimmy sang in Berger in for Michael Brown right here
on this situation room, And yeah, we were talking about
Wanda James cu regent censured on a bipartisan basis by
her colleagues, and she did.

Speaker 5 (19:08):
Not trust the science, trust the science.

Speaker 4 (19:10):
She dismissed the science as junk science, the science of.

Speaker 5 (19:14):
Her own institution.

Speaker 4 (19:15):
And she is getting consequences for it, not just as
she was dismissing the science, but also attacking the program
and trying to get a public education effort, an awareness
campaign on high potency THC and pot intended for youth
and pregnant mothers in particular to get that funding cut

(19:38):
because she said images were racist. Dragon, we live in
a crazy topsy turvy world, do we not.

Speaker 5 (19:47):
It's entertaining for sure. Yes, I would just say she
has some sanctions again.

Speaker 4 (19:54):
For example, she's lost her committee assignments, any chairman ships,
anything like that. No more, she's not getting those committee slots.
And she also is Let's see how the language says
in the resolution, they're is sending any invitations previously extended

(20:18):
to Regent James to any internal or external university events
that regents attend in their official representational capacity, and to
preclude any such future invitations. As I understand that this
includes sports games. You can't go to the well. I
don't know if that means you can't go of your

(20:38):
own you know, fruition. I think you can go yourself
buy a ticket. But the special region box or whatever
they had, I don't know that they have a box.
I don't know what it's like. But you're not going
to be there in your official region capacity.

Speaker 8 (20:51):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (20:53):
Now, this is a consequence that is well deserved, and
I only wish that her mentee, the former disgraced former
school board member in Denver Tay Anderson. Yes, indeed, Wanda
James is a mentor of Tay Anderson, and clearly they're
cut from the same cloth in a number of ways
in terms of how they defend themselves and play the

(21:16):
victim card and the race card and all of that.
But I only wish that when Tay Anderson was censured
almost four years ago, that he had some sanctions too.

Speaker 5 (21:28):
Unfortunately, it was just a slap on the wrist.

Speaker 4 (21:30):
Oh, we don't like that you did this, and his
stuff was even more egregious.

Speaker 5 (21:35):
But I digress.

Speaker 4 (21:36):
Because you heard the opening, you heard a little bit
of the show open to the original Star Trek series
ts the original series, as they say, next year marks
fifty years, sixty years rather of the show of Star Trek.

(22:05):
I am James T. Sangenberger, your host for the program.
Am I going overboard right now?

Speaker 5 (22:11):
Dragon? Nope, it's absolutely perfect.

Speaker 3 (22:13):
Probably took a couple of people second to what you
what you were doing, but nope.

Speaker 4 (22:18):
Yeah, but my real middle initial is not Tea, but
for today it is Tea. I had the incredible opportunity
I worked on this. I paired up with Mandy Connell
on our Sister Station at KOA on Monday to interview
none other than William Shatner himself, which was incredible for me.

(22:40):
I love Star Trek if you couldn't tell, and Star Wars.
Of course, I'm one of those fans. I think you
are too.

Speaker 8 (22:47):
Yeah, of course.

Speaker 4 (22:48):
I mean if you don't like both, there are a
lot of people who don't.

Speaker 5 (22:54):
Mandy's never hardly ever watched Star Wars, so I mean,
that's what I don't know.

Speaker 3 (22:58):
I mean, just to like hate one and love the other.

Speaker 5 (23:01):
I don't quite get that. I don't either.

Speaker 3 (23:03):
But wow, it's like having chocolate, the Napoleon ice CREAMI
or whatever it is, the chocolate strawberry vanilla. It's okay,
you can have all three.

Speaker 5 (23:13):
There's nothing wrong with no.

Speaker 4 (23:14):
There certainly is nothing wrong with that. And both are
near and dear to my heart. William Shatner Today and
tomorrow will be downtown at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.

Speaker 5 (23:27):
He'll be doing pictures.

Speaker 4 (23:28):
Tomorrow he will be speaking and taking Q and A
and all of that. This is the Comic con Convention
of Fan Expo Denver. I'll be down there all four days.
I'm actually covering it as well. For the Denver Gazette,
and so that led to this interview.

Speaker 5 (23:44):
And I want to play the portion.

Speaker 4 (23:47):
Where I asked my couple of questions, which I had
to narrow down, as you will hear from many, many more.
And as a consequence of the conversation of narrowing down
the work, scolded Jimmy Sangenberg, what in the world, oh,
William Shatner, it is? It is exciting to have you on.

(24:08):
It is the very difficult challenge to figure out how
to narrow down the many millions of questions swirling through
my head.

Speaker 8 (24:15):
But since you're coming, narrow them down, Jimmy, don't narrow
them down, just say them all off rapidly. I'll pick one.

Speaker 5 (24:23):
Okay, Well I'll start with this one.

Speaker 4 (24:25):
How about that you're coming to Fan Expo Denver. I've
been there the last few years, very excited to have you.
When you go to a convention like this, what does
that mean to you personally and professionally and in particular
as well, What role have they really had over the
last coming up next year sixty years and helping to
keep Star Trek not just alive but thriving.

Speaker 8 (24:49):
Okay, so you know what that's called that's called a
compound question.

Speaker 2 (24:53):
It is.

Speaker 5 (24:53):
See, I'm trying to narrow a couple of a million questions.

Speaker 8 (24:57):
I don't know where to start. I don't know, Jimmy,
let me talk. That's part of the interview. I don't
know where to start to answer that question. What does
it mean to me? I did these comic cons because
I meet the fans and I've just come off. For example,
this weekend, I was in Taekwonderoga, upstate New York, which

(25:18):
holding chit talk was this Indian term for like a conversation,
and I'd be in front of and I did this
seven or eight times this weekend, be in front of
an audience of fifty sixty seventy people and start a
conversation like what do you do and why do you
do that? And so many incredible things happened between the
fans and myself. It's gotten to the point where the

(25:40):
fans in Taekwonderoga come to Taekwonderoga because they've heard but
an extraordinary time. That hour an hour and a half
that we have between me and the fans of the
audience is an extraordinary eye opening time in terms of revelation.
And that's what I just did this weekend. I will

(26:01):
do that this coming weekend in on a limited dasis.
I think once on Thursday, for I'm not sure where.
I'll stand in front of the audience and tell stories
or take questions and provoke and invoke the audience's response,
and I mean, we have a great time. And then

(26:22):
I'll sign autographs, and while I'm songing signing, I'll talk,
and then there's pictures, and then there's all these other people,
not me but addressed in costumes walking around and it's
just joyful time. So I urge your audience come down
to the comic on Thursday and Friday and Friday, and

(26:42):
I'll be there and I'd love to see y'all.

Speaker 4 (26:44):
Yes, Ben Expo Denver coming to the Denver Colorado Convention
Center in Denver Thursday through Sunday. And William Shatner our
guest here on Thursday and Friday. Let's ask one question
as we wrap up with you, sir, about Captain Kirk.
How much would you say that being Kirk on television

(27:07):
and in film was you? And how much of you
became Captain Kirk over the decades.

Speaker 8 (27:16):
Well, I'm sure it doesn't come as a surprise to
you that I'm Shatner, and I said the words that
were supposed to be Captain Kirk's words, but they were
written for me. Yes, So I said the words, and
I said them as best I could, and memorized them
as best I could, and did what little I could

(27:39):
to be a character. It's called a mask and my
new album I Love Tomorrow will be out in a while,
and one of the songs is called Masks. How actors
and people all in every way of life wear masks.

(28:00):
So we're different people to different we're different we are
different people to different people. And so I Shatner appeared
to be Captain Kirk. And because it's ten pages a
day in shooting a series, there's no time to ub
the skate or plan. So I would say a great

(28:20):
deal of me is it was what you see as
Captain Kirk.

Speaker 4 (28:24):
I gotta say dragon first of all. William Shatner just
recently turned ninety four. Yeah, and he is as sharp
as anybody could be still, And I mean it was
embodied in the fact that he took me to task
a little bit. I felt like you remember the trouble
with Tribble's episode, Who could forget that and Scotty and

(28:47):
Chekhov get into I think it's Chekhov, who's the other officer.
They get into a fight with Klingons and along with others,
and there's this lineup of all the different officers who
got involved in the fight, and Kirk's going down the
line trying to find who was responsible for the fight.
And I felt like I was one of those guys.
And it was delightful, absolutely delightful. But also the segue,

(29:12):
this man at ninety four has another album because he
loves his musical albums.

Speaker 5 (29:16):
He is a rocket man, and.

Speaker 4 (29:21):
He segued perfectly to that, all right, go ahead, dragging
your thoughts.

Speaker 3 (29:25):
I didn't even know he had I knew he was
a famous singer and he has a whole bunch of
albums out there, but I didn't know he was working
on something new.

Speaker 5 (29:31):
At ninety four.

Speaker 3 (29:33):
He's not just collecting a check and doing all these
comic con type stuff.

Speaker 5 (29:36):
He's actually out there working.

Speaker 4 (29:37):
And he turned an answer to a question about Kirk
into a promotional opportunity for.

Speaker 5 (29:43):
His album, Just the Masterstroke.

Speaker 3 (29:47):
I mean, it was a little awkward there because I
don't think he could exactly remember where he was going
to be this weekend because he was talking about sure
to come see you, I'll see you all this this
weekend of thing, rather than in Denver. So it seems like,
you know, traveling artists like that. I can understand not
always knowing where you are, where you're going.

Speaker 4 (30:07):
The important thing is he got the name Jimmy right
multiple times.

Speaker 3 (30:10):
But I mean turning everything around, and you know he's
still all there at ninety four.

Speaker 5 (30:16):
There's there's no question about that. It is remarkable.

Speaker 4 (30:19):
And yes, today tomorrow he will be at Fan Expo Denver.
I think we're going to get a picture with him
tonight paying for it. It's not like I'm getting something
special in that regard.

Speaker 5 (30:29):
It'd be great. I'd love that, but.

Speaker 4 (30:31):
I don't know after that little scolding that that I
would get any sort of special treatment from mister Shatner. Yea, oh,
you gotta love it. I'm Jimmy Segendberger filling in for
Michael Brown. Lots more up ahead, keep please, the talkback's coming.
I haven't heard Kamalas cackle in a long time. I
don't need it again. Don't go anywhere six thirty k out.

Speaker 9 (30:54):
According to add to Better Denver, DNVR, even though the
traffic control for the Denver Police has been understaff for
a long time, all of the sun. Mayor Mikey says,
we need to be concerned about safety, and they are
asking twenty officers to move to the traffic patrol. I'm

(31:14):
sure this has nothing to do with adding revenue for
the city. And if they really cared about safety, why
don't they arrest for low level offense.

Speaker 4 (31:26):
I think that's Alexa right, Jimmy Sangenberger in for Michael Brown,
Absolutely right, Alexa. I have nothing to add. It's it's
a revenue place. It's gotta be at this point for
the good old mayor of Denver. Yeah, my crime by
cant he come on down this Saturday from seven to

(31:53):
eleven pm in the Zone and Golden I mean Junior
Blues Band will play. You're gonna enjoy it. Yes, indeed
we are performing. The Jimmy Junior Blues Band has a
gig at in the Zone in Golden out on the patio.
Going to be a beautiful day for July fifth, this

(32:16):
Independence Day weekend.

Speaker 5 (32:18):
I'm excited.

Speaker 3 (32:19):
Was that a little bit of harmonica for for forty
three forty four? Dragon please don't let the harmonica guy
cut loose today on the air again.

Speaker 4 (32:26):
Whenever, God, whenever, it's kind of like the opposite of
a cackle, whenever a goober complains about the prospect of
having harmonica on the show. When Jimmy Sangenberger's filling in,
I have no choice but to play harmonica on the air,
of course, and there's no choice.

Speaker 5 (32:43):
Plus Dragon wants it. You want all the harp you
can get, course, that's for sure.

Speaker 4 (32:47):
Now My Crime is one of the tunes that we
will perform, and yes, here's truly with much better vocals
than I just it's too early in the morning.

Speaker 5 (32:55):
Sings that too, and it's going to be a blast.

Speaker 4 (32:58):
It's also going to be a blast coming up eight o'clock,
top of the eight o'clock hour. I will be continuing
the tradition I did this last year when I filled
in for Michael, of reading the Declaration of Independence in
full live on the air and doing a rendition as

(33:18):
it is meant to be. And I will encourage each
and every one of you to pull up your own
copy and read along. If you have kids, wake them up,
don't let them sleep in today. They expected to do
So because it's summer now, it's Independence Day Eve. We're
gonna read the Declaration of Independence and I want all

(33:40):
hands on deck because this is our nation's founding document
and such a pivotal, pivotal really the pivotal document for
human freedom to launch government and society and more into
a new fan and a new set of ideals. Speaking

(34:04):
of ideals of the founding of this country, we will
talk on the other side with Professor Lucas Morell, who
is an expert on the great late abolitionist Frederick Douglas
and President Abraham Lincoln. This is a conversation you will
not want to miss as we talk about what to
the slave is the fourth of July. Powerful speech by

(34:26):
Frederick Douglas and more. Jimmy and Formichael stay tuned.
