Speaker 1 (00:01):
From the theme park capital of the World, Orlando, Florida.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
This is the Theme Park Podcast. Wait podcast?
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Is this a radio? Why does everything gotta be so
messy on this station?
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Anyway?
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Here's your host, Dickerman, Jimmy d and Scott Harris.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
Hey therein Welcome to the Theme Park Podcast Dickerman.
Speaker 4 (00:24):
Here there is Jimmy Dean Dickerman. I am so glad
that the rhinoplasty did not change your voice.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
I know it didn't change it at all. It did
change my face though, So there you go. And mister Scott.
Speaker 5 (00:36):
Harris, I'll see you in the fog.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
Uh so you will. Uh You're supposed to say something
about spooky season because I just did. No, I didn't
do it. I did. Oh, I know, I know, but
I need a little bit more.
Speaker 5 (00:48):
On the nose, there was literally that's literally on the nose.
It's literally the tagline that they.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Used at the tagline for this year, not this year.
Speaker 5 (00:57):
But it's like what they sell merchandise that has on it.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
No, I was not familiar with that, So, you know,
I don't pay attention to most things in the world,
that being one of them. A lot of things I
don't catch a lot of things. See anyhow, Yes, so
big news this week as we were in attended at
(01:24):
a mega con. Sorry I know, I got spooky season
in my head now at MegaCon and big surprise announcement,
big details on Halloween Hornites. What a partnership that was.
Speaker 5 (01:36):
Yeah, they announced I was there on Saturday morning. There
was a Halloween Horrorites panel ten to thirty in the
morning on Saturday and they unveiled the first house.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
Yes, so tell us, tell us what it was. For
those of us that have attention deficit disorder.
Speaker 5 (01:54):
My nemesis is back Jack the Clown.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
Yes, yes, Jack the Clown. This is the Conic Jack
the Clown. He is an original ip straight to Universal,
which is awesome that they've built this, this this thing themselves.
It is so big. Yeah. So it's not just Jack though.
Speaker 5 (02:10):
No, it is as they announced, it is Jack and Oddfellow.
So two icons are our back teaming up at a house.
Speaker 4 (02:22):
Do we know when Odd Fellow originally debuted three? How
did I miss him? I missed him too, Yeah, because
he's kind of got like this whole Cajun kind of
thing to him.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
I do remember, like maybe we did get to go
that year Jimmy. Maybe that was year we didn't get
him fined.
Speaker 5 (02:39):
Doctor Oddfellow was largely a secondary character, playing a role
in Jack the Clown's backstory until twenty twenty three, when
he was brought into the spotlight as the icon of
Halloween Horrorites thirty two. He is portrayed as a sinister
ring master who manipulates events.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
Oh okay, well now he's gonna partner up with Jack.
Speaker 5 (03:01):
Yes, they will have a house, uh, the Infernal Carnival
of Nightmares.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
Do we expect this? Do you think it's gonna be
like a mega house, like one of their bigger ones
or a standard house.
Speaker 5 (03:14):
This will be one of their bigger original houses. I
mean that's just kind of how you know, the icon
always gets a big house and Jack being the icon.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
Yes, yeah, when you have an original ip, you can
just dream bigger. You're not beholden to any you know.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
Those are always some of the best houses too. I yes,
you know, because they they really can just go wild.
They have they can paint outside the lines as much
as they like.
Speaker 5 (03:42):
Yeah, they're not beholden to anyone. No, you know, corporate
overlord kind of in that regard. So, and there's you know,
they talked about this at the panel, about how excited
they were they'd started working on this, you know last year. Really,
you know, we've talked about this window rolls around. They've
already started on the next year's houses.
Speaker 4 (04:05):
They're announcing this year's icons. You got to believe somebody's
got a file on their hard drive with next year's
with twenty twenty seven Halloween season already starting in you know,
in progress.
Speaker 5 (04:18):
And the thing is, uh, you can already buy merchandise
for this house at Islands of Aventure already. Yep, you know,
no that that afternoon they started selling it like online
and in the store in in Universal in Islands, two
stores were already selling merchandise for that. What's goes so
far as to say that, as of recording today, tickets
(04:43):
are on sale for Halloween rnites.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
Isn't this crazy? It is? It is not even eight
months away. Uh, it'll sell out? How quick do we
think it's going to sell out? Do we think? I
mean not? Not like like when's the first night? Sellout?
How soon? Well?
Speaker 5 (05:00):
The first night is August twenty eighth.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
Mm hmm. I meant I didn't mean like the first
night of the event. I just mean, like, well, that
will that will be what that might be, That will
be October first, yeah or whatever.
Speaker 5 (05:11):
The first night will be the first night that sells out.
Just the inherent because we've talked about this, that's the
first they do a big ceremony before the before the
big event, like before the gates open. That is when
they you know, do it up.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
Okay, yeah, so that's gonna be the first one to
sell out. So we are in March right now. Do
we think we have sellout status by June or July?
Speaker 5 (05:35):
I think we will have sellout status by April May.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
Wow, that's wild. I mean it continues to get bigger
every year.
Speaker 5 (05:45):
Single single night tickets range from eighty eight two hundred
and thirty dollars depending on when you go. Express passes
start at one hundred and seventy and go up to
two hundred and eighty on peak nights. Multi nights in
frequent fear passes are not currently available yet.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
It's wild that the express passes are more than the
tickets to the event.
Speaker 5 (06:08):
But we've talked about this. If you have the means
to do it and you are only going one time, yes,
do it. You do it because it means you can
do everything. You can do everything.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
That just means your ticket's three hundred dollars, not really
one hundred if we're being real, that just means your
tickets three hundred dollars whatever.
Speaker 4 (06:25):
No, I think what did you say the bottom end
of the tickets was eighty eight dollars?
Speaker 5 (06:29):
Eighty eight dollars and.
Speaker 4 (06:31):
Then what was the bottom end of the express Like, oh,
so yeah, you're like a two fifty nearbyd But.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
That's the thing. If you go the cheapest done both
that you can exactly if you can, if you can
like it.
Speaker 5 (06:43):
It only gets busier as the season goes on. And
you know, the thing is the ticket website makes it
very easy to see how much it is on that
specific night.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Yeah, that's good. I mean that's you know, you see
going to pay and you're going to pay less if
you go on a Thursday. Whatever. What what nights do
they run? It's not slipping in my mind right now.
Do they do more than Friday, Saturday, Sesday?
Speaker 5 (07:07):
Once you get later on in the month, they'll do
like Wednesdays and Thursdays and some Sundays. Okay, all right,
and how about this? How about this new this year.
The seventy dollars Scream Early ticket includes access to three
houses starting at two in the afternoon.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
So is this like an add on to like your
Universal ticket? Is that what it is? Or do You're
only going for the three houses?
Speaker 5 (07:34):
So you get admission to access to three houses starting
at two o'clock, plus daytime admission to Universal before the
event starts. Okay, but a separate Horror Night ticket is required.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
Oh okay, so you gotcha. Yeah, So okay, staying Scream.
Speaker 5 (07:56):
But the thing is, because a lot of people have
been saying it's on social media, it's like the flash
of walking out of a house. Didn't you broad daylight?
Speaker 3 (08:03):
Yeah? Because you you did it right during COVID, right
when like it first came back.
Speaker 5 (08:08):
Didn't you go during the day because it was because
they had the houses, They had two houses that were
just the were going the entire time.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
Right, Yeah, So you did get to experience that.
Speaker 5 (08:19):
And then right before Halloween they had the Beatle Juice House.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
Oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:24):
I did go to a passholder event for Halloween Harnites
one time, and essentially you got in like an hour
before everybody else and you had like free run in
the park. We got through like three or four houses
before in that like one hour span, but a couple
of them were outdoor houses and it was still daylight. Yeah,
so it was like like we had to go do
(08:45):
them again. It was a it was the year when
they had uh Freddy Jason and I think leather.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
Face h Okay and Jimry icons Yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:54):
Yeah, and Jason's uh Haunted house was through the queue
of jaws, like the uh overflow jaw us.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
Yeah, those are There are some good times through the
various Halloween Hornites. And I know our buddy Derek is
heading to Vegas because he's got a convention this week,
but he's gonna go get to see the permanent installation
of the Hornite situation out there.
Speaker 5 (09:15):
Yes, Halloween Unleashed.
Speaker 3 (09:17):
Yes, Halloween Unleashed. I don't know how. I wonder how
it's doing, Like are they still in a lot of
tickets for that?
Speaker 5 (09:23):
I don't know. I don't That's the That's the thing,
Like Vegas is such like an anomaly to me. I've
been one time.
Speaker 4 (09:29):
Yeah, they're they're probably doing how Vegas is doing, like
like whatever the percentages of like you know capacity or
you know, room uh, you know, vacancies and things of
that nature.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
It's all going to affect everything. So that's uh, that's it,
the beginning of spooky season. It's uh, it's it's here
very early, and tickets around Salef. You want to get
your Halloween ornit tickets, go for it. It's a good
time tax refund season.
Speaker 5 (09:55):
The thing is, nobody ever listens to me that it's
always spooky season. I've been saying this four years, but
nobody didn't ever listens to me.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
You're willing it into the universe. At some point. These
tickets are going to go on sale in January.
Speaker 5 (10:07):
Well, I mean here's the thing, twenty eight years later.
In Primate came out in January. Last month this point, yeah,
last month. Allegedly a scream movie came out this month,
ready or not to hear I come has come out?
Oh sorry, horror, Yeah, a horror movie. One Best picture
(10:30):
like two weeks ago in the did not win Best Picture,
one Best Rigural Screenplay, and I'm a best actor Best actor.
One battle after another one Best Picture, I mean Sinners
was one of the probably the other.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
Figure it was nominated for Best Picture.
Speaker 5 (10:47):
I mean well actually I actually the other thing is
weapons one best supporting actress for Amy Madigan.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
Yeah, that's true. It's spooky season, all right. You want
to get into some MEGAICN coverage.
Speaker 5 (11:02):
Yes, I was there all four days.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
I got to go some I didn't go it go
as much as you. I didn't get to experience the
full gamut. But I know you did go the entire time,
So you want to talk about some of your experience
out there.
Speaker 5 (11:16):
So I went all four days. As everyone knows, this
is my As much as I love Halloween, I don't
make that a secret about myself. I love horror movies,
but Mega con is the thing I look forward to
every single every year. It is the thing that really
gets me out of the house. It gets me to
dress up, get out of my comfort zone.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
Oh yeah, people were asking, that's right. I was talking
because my wife was taking photos and people were messaging us,
going where are Scott's costume? What is Scott ware this year?
What did you go with?
Speaker 5 (11:48):
I went with, Well, as everyone knows, I spent a
lot of money on a Spider Man costume a few
years back, which means I have to keep wearing that.
Speaker 3 (11:56):
And I you have to stay in shape, and I
have to stay in.
Speaker 5 (11:59):
Shape, and I have to stay in shape. The problem
with wearing that is and it's like it's not really
a problem, it's just it's nothing against the people that
my my brethren, my spider my Spidery friends.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
M h.
Speaker 5 (12:14):
They've become the dead pools at conventions.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
There's a lot of Spider Man out there.
Speaker 5 (12:20):
And there they have taken on the dead Bowl personality.
I don't know if you've seen them at conventions.
Speaker 3 (12:26):
I have not. I saw one of the really posted
in them rowing. They were a rowing at one point. Yep, yep.
Spider Punk was in there. Yep.
Speaker 5 (12:34):
Don't really know where the rowing come came from. I
see that at Emo Knights as well. I did not
join in on that. I was not dressed up as
Spider Man that day.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
Okay, all right, I don't know. I don't know the
rowing thing, but maybe I'm too old for.
Speaker 5 (12:47):
I've tried to, like, I've tried to figure out what
the origin of it is. Have I joined in at
an Emo night after having some claws? Yes, yes, but no, no,
I mean, I mean, anyone knows me. I'm gonna go
with a Spider Man. I'm gonna go with a Marty
(13:08):
McFly and because we're a few weeks away from a
new Super Mario Brothers movie, I have a Wallauigi costume.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
Oh Wallaigi. Yep, wait wait wait when did this happen?
Speaker 5 (13:21):
This started last year?
Speaker 3 (13:23):
Are there a pictures somewhere.
Speaker 5 (13:25):
I can send you from last year?
Speaker 3 (13:27):
Please?
Speaker 5 (13:30):
It's you know, it's it's It's one of my favorite
things to look forward to. I had a lot of
ideas for costumes this year. They did not come to
fruition this year. But I have a stock pile of
costumes that I can that I can run through.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
There you go.
Speaker 5 (13:46):
But I've talked about this. My wall space is a premium,
so that kind of limits a lot of the purchasing
that I do now. So it shifted into stickers. Jimmy
saw one of the purchases I I did make last
week of dumpster Fire, which is indicative of life.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
I took a picture of that too and said it
to someone.
Speaker 5 (14:07):
Sure, yeah, I've always wanted one of those, so that
I me getting a chance to buy one. I relished
at that, but it.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
Was set up. They had their own like whole thing
they did.
Speaker 4 (14:17):
Yes, Scott, does it do anything or is it just
like an action trigger or action figure.
Speaker 5 (14:23):
It's in action figure. They had ones that did that
did things. They had some that glowed. They had string
lights that you could get.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
Yeah, they did have a lineup one. I didn't. I
didn't catch the price on it, and I didn't want
to ask. I figured I to ask. I couldn't afford it.
Speaker 5 (14:37):
I think it was fifty bucks.
Speaker 4 (14:38):
I want to say, I kind of want one where
you put the quarter on top and then like the glows,
the dumpster lid will open up and like a little
flaming ham will come out, grab the quarter and pull
it in.
Speaker 5 (14:49):
Oh, like my Godzilla, My Godzilla one.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
Yes, that's fun. Do they make that?
Speaker 5 (14:54):
I have the Godzilla one? I don't know.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
Like the Zilla one though too.
Speaker 5 (14:57):
I think Jimmy's willing something into existence that should exist.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
He wants it to happen.
Speaker 5 (15:03):
But I I have a I have a John carp
I have a poster for the thing that is signed
by legendary artist Drew Strusan. So I was able to
get John Carpenter to now sign it.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
Nice spot for that.
Speaker 5 (15:17):
Well, the thing is that it was already on the
wall to begin with.
Speaker 4 (15:20):
Okay, so so did when you when you transported it,
did you transport it in the frame or did you
roll it up and put it in the tube?
Speaker 5 (15:27):
I have a tube. I have a couple of tubes
left over from previous purchases, so I was able to
safely carry it around. And my favorite part of it
was is he was kind of taken aback when he
realized who the other signature was.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
Oh that's nice. So John Carpenter's old, right, You're not
going to have another.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
Don't say it that way.
Speaker 3 (15:49):
Well, I mean very old right, like like like he's
out there doing cons this is this is like a
one once in a lifetime opportunity.
Speaker 5 (15:58):
I think he's a very young seventy eight. The thing is,
that's not that you can do it again. I saw
him at the table. I saw him at the table.
I went to one of the panels that he was
a part of, and he is as sharp as a whip.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
Like.
Speaker 5 (16:13):
I have recently gone back and rewatched a couple of
his movies with the commentary on, and I want to say,
these were recorded in the early two thousands, and he
is as funny then as he is now.
Speaker 3 (16:28):
That's great. Scott's great. Remind me who's the other signature
on Your Your Thing.
Speaker 5 (16:32):
Drew Streusan the okay, yeah, the Legendarya, who did a
couple like he did the Goonies, he did the Star
Wars prequels. He's had multiple John Carpenter movies, the Indiana
Jones movies. He recently passed away a few years ago,
so it's even that much more iconic now.
Speaker 3 (16:51):
Yeah, that's that's what you just said that.
Speaker 5 (16:53):
He also did the Mall Rats poster, which Kevin Smith
always jokes about.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
That's fun. It's a good post post is awesome.
Speaker 5 (17:00):
Yeah, yeah, but I went to that. I went to
it was a Halloween panel. I also went to a
Mummy panel with like Brennan Fraser and John Hannah and
of Alaskz and Oh Dead Fair. So really timely because
Brendan Fraser is very funny. And also they announced recently
that they're making a fourth slash third of the Mummy movie.
Speaker 3 (17:24):
So yeah, that's true.
Speaker 4 (17:26):
Oh are we are we gonna pull the We're just
going to ignore number three.
Speaker 5 (17:30):
Yes, because Rachel Weiss is not in it.
Speaker 3 (17:33):
Oh okay, three.
Speaker 5 (17:36):
Three is the tumb of Dragon Emperor. She was not
a part of it. They're recast her with Maria Bello.
So we're gonna kind of forget that that one happened.
Speaker 3 (17:44):
Okay, all right, just knock it off. It's not fair.
It's not fair to Jently.
Speaker 5 (17:48):
The thing is, he's actually barely in that movie as well,
Like I recently rewatched that movie. Yeah, weirdly also has
two Academy Award winners in that movie because Michelle Yo
was in that movie along with Brendan Fraser. But it
was a great convention. I know people that went to
the K Pop Demon Hunters panels and I mean that
(18:09):
was like the biggest thing at Mega Con.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
I mean right, yeah, it's weird. Like my wife tried
to get into Lost panel, which I'm bummed I didn't
get to see, but they couldn't get in that it
was too crowded. It was it was just packed with people.
Speaker 5 (18:20):
Yeah, and they did a lot of panels, like they
had large rooms for so many of them, Like you know,
they had the chap in theater for like the big
big ones, but then they had a lot of the
other rooms. Like I couldn't get into a Jody Whittaker,
who's one of the recent doctors from Doctor Who. It
just I wasn't able to make it into it.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
I couldn't get into the pro wrestling. We were wondering.
We found the pro wrestling thing, but it was like
people were lined up out the door. Yeah. I don't
know who was putting on wrestling, but I was amazed.
I look inside, there's a wrestling ring in this like room.
They squasted it in there somehow.
Speaker 5 (18:56):
Yeah, but it was. It was good.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
It was.
Speaker 5 (18:58):
It was a lot of fun. I look forward to it.
My bank account doesn't, but it.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
Is what it is. I wonder what the attendance was
this year, because I remember seeing on Saturday, at one
point every parking lot and satellite parking lot was sold out,
with the exception of like Lake Buena Vista High School
and another high school that I think was a great distance. Wait,
I'm talking like they filled up the Aquatica parking lot
as well as you know, everything else around that area.
Speaker 5 (19:22):
You know what that means. People didn't listen to us and.
Speaker 3 (19:25):
Didn't park in the in the dirt lot, the dirt lot. Well,
we shouldn't tell him about the dirt lot. I got
in the dirt lot, no problem. But it was forty
freaking bucks man, I know. But what dollars. It's easy
in the dirt.
Speaker 5 (19:36):
It was easy to get in and out of.
Speaker 3 (19:38):
You know. You know how much that stings me to
pay forty dollars to park my car?
Speaker 5 (19:44):
You know which said hello, I went four days.
Speaker 3 (19:47):
Oh yeah, parking the dirt lot every day. Yes, I
did take out a loan for parking.
Speaker 5 (19:54):
The thing is it's easy to get in and out of.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
You know. Yeah, that's uh okay, but it rough, but
it was good.
Speaker 5 (20:01):
It was a lot of fun. And plan accordingly because
may through the twenty third next year.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
Yes, by your parking now, by your parking in advantage.
Speaker 5 (20:11):
I don't think the parking is unsille yet, but.
Speaker 3 (20:13):
Ah, man, book your hotels then the prices has have
jumped yet.
Speaker 5 (20:17):
Book your hotels now.
Speaker 3 (20:19):
Yeah, just do it. Get a hotel next to it
if the prices aren't outrageous and you'll be set.
Speaker 5 (20:24):
Lock it in now.
Speaker 4 (20:26):
Can I tell you guys about something that's coming up
soon this week? Actually yeah, Artemis two supposed to go
up on before we speak again on April first, so third, six,
twenty four pm.
Speaker 3 (20:39):
You should us on an April fool's joke.
Speaker 4 (20:40):
And they're not going to do it like a you
came out here now because the launch window is the
first through the sixth, and it's like every day that
passes you push the launch time back an hour. So
this August second, it'll be at seven to twenty two.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
Well, catching that launch when you're when you're going out
there for it, it's it's tricky because you never know
if it's really going to go. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (21:03):
I mean there was one time that Laura and I
were like deathly ill. We were pulling up to a
launch we were on we had made it through the
security checkpoint and they had scrubbed a launch. So we
immediately made a U turn and drove home with like fevers.
Speaker 3 (21:21):
Couldn't yeah because.
Speaker 4 (21:22):
You can't like you can't call him sick because the
launch is gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
So yeah, that's true. All right. Is there any other
news we want to touch on before we we have
to wrap up here?
Speaker 1 (21:32):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (21:33):
Yeah, we do have a couple of things. Start us
racers back open It's back.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
Oh my gosh. I had a friend one of my
coworkers went this weekend. They're like, yeah, I was bummed
it wasn't open and then they reopen it now.
Speaker 5 (21:44):
Yep, it was listed as closed through April fifth, but
it's officially reopened.
Speaker 3 (21:49):
Now, good, good to hear. Maybe I'll maybe I'll end
up going at some point. Uh huh, now that's back open.
Speaker 5 (21:56):
Uh uh. Disney Cruise Line Japan is being established.
Speaker 3 (22:03):
Oh okay, all right, that sounds like a good thing.
You guys love Japan and Disney sonight.
Speaker 5 (22:08):
