Speaker 1 (00:00):
Following takes place between one pm and two theater.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Now it's time to enter the Fletcher Zone Renumber two.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
Let's get it going.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
We got some Master Next Hoops tickets to give away
this hour, so keep listening if you want to win
a pair of tickets to San Diego State and UNLV
coming up next Friday night. I just saw a report
go across the TV up here, Samuel, is there rumors
that Aaron Rodgers maybe going to the Minnesota Vikings.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Is? I haven't seen that. That's what I just saw
pop up up.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
The first things first, we'll get to that in a
second if that's true. But there's rumors that Aaron Rodgers
maybe leaked to the Minnesota Vikings. Is he literally just
tried to follow the career of Brett Favre, because that
would be fascinating if that actually happens.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
If you are the Minnesota Vikings, what are you doing?

Speaker 2 (00:50):
I mean, seriously, again, this was just a bottom chiron
on the Fox TV broadcast that we're watching right now.
But are there rumors that Air Rogers gonna be go
to the Vikings.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
Let's just take that through. Let's take that through, whether
it's Aaron Rodgers or Kirk Cousins. If you're in the Minnesota Vikings,
you have sat there and watched a Kirk Cousins have
success the first time around with you, then you go
get Sam Darnold, you go watch him with win a
super Bowl with the Seahawks. You're stuck with JJ McCarthy.
And now, even though I'm not a JJ McCarthy believer,
you're not even giving him the opportunity to have a

(01:23):
second year breakout because you're gonna go get a Kirk
Cousins or Aaron Rodgers. Makes zero sense. The Vikings thinking
that they're a super Bowl contender is beyond me. You're
in a division with Caleb Williams, Jordan Love, and Jared Goff.
You are by far the fourth place finish uring that division.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
That would be fascinating if it happens. The jokes right
themselves about him and Brett Farv and we'll see if
it happens. But Sammy, why don't you look that up
and we can get into it a little bit if
there's any validity to it.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
But we'll start this hour here.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
And it's the fact that this is one of my
favorite times a year because every year around February twenty fifth.
February time twenty six is when the NFLPA releases their
anonymous survey of all the players who are in it
and they grade the teams. It's literally an abcd F
grading scale for all the teams and all the facilities
around the NFL. And historically there are certain teams who

(02:18):
rise to the top. Miami's always a very high finisher.
They were actually first. They got eight pluses across the board,
from treatment of families to head coach.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
What happens when you're living in South Beach.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
But it's also funny that their head coach got a
day plus and then got fired.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
But you know, things happen.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
And I think the Falcons actually had that too this year,
where the head coach got a day plus but got fired.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
Yeah, so it's.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
Players think one thing and ownership oftentimes thinks a different thing.
But across the board, Miami's always near the top. The
Vikings are always near the top. Who's another The commander
is actually six, New ownership is right near the top.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
Miami's won Minnesota two commanders.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Three commanders since new ownership. They used to be towards
the bottom when Snyder was rolling things. But now ever,
since the new Family took over all of a sudden,
the Washington Commanders have top notch everything.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
What do those three three teams have in common? Last
year not making the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
That's true, so players could be happy, but you're not winning.
Sometimes you need a little tough, a little grit, a
little grime. Speaking of which, the team at the very
bottom now for a couple of years. Actually, the Cleveland
Browns weren't dead last last year, but the team at
the very bottom this year Pittsburgh Steelers. Funny, we're talking
about Aaron Rodgers, but apparently the facilities out in Pittsburgh
are old and decrepit. Their quarterback was old and decrepit

(03:22):
a year ago. But Mike Tomlin's final season with the
Pittsburgh Steelers, they are the dead last team. And it's
funny because we always talk about Mike Tomlin and the
Steelers is a very player friendly organization.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
Gordon's a PA. People don't like it anymore.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
Pittsburgh feels a little lost to me because you go
from and they've always been considered an elite ownership group
kind of in the NFL. The Roinies have always been
kind of respected as as an ownership group that a
lot of pride, met organization, a lot, a lot of
winning in that city. Despite the fact that Steeler fans
are frustrated with not having a playoff wins in twenty sixteen, still,

(04:00):
I mean, they're they're perennially in the conversation, they're in
the picture, and they just they haven't had a quarterback.
This is a league where if you don't have a quarterback,
you're not gonna win. I mean, it's just that simple,
especially with the way offense, all the rules kind of
kind of bend offensively.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
But it is.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
It is funny people always overreact to this, and it
is I mean, what's today's date.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
It's the end of February right that.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
There's not a ton on the dock yet right now,
so everyone's kind of looking for stories.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
But funny Samy's kind of skirting around the fact that
his Chiefs were ranked twenty sixth in the league.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
I don't care as long as they win.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
The only a plus they got was Andy Reid.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
The Chiefs never ranked Hi up there. Listen, ownership with
the Chiefs gotta c minus.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
In San Francisco, they can have cushy couches and all
the all the cafe food they want. But again, you
care about winning. Getting to my point, these report cards
are kind of a joke. I mean you have to
they're they're getting ranked by players. I mean to the point,
I don't think in the Patriots dynasty people would have said, oh,

(05:01):
Bill Belichick was a fun guy, or the Patriots were
a superation.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
They love Bob Kraft because Bob Craft splurged. He was
one of the first owners to get private jets for
the whole team. Bob Craft spent. He always got an
A plus on these.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
Things, right, But they're not.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
The Patriots were in the business of winning, correct, They
weren't in the business of making sure everyone felt good.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
Now you are right, this is a bunch of hubbub,
but it's largely it's worth exactly zero. But the reason
we talk about it and it's kind of funny is
I've talked to Rich Ornberger about this and I was like,
how do they do this? Like, how exactly is this
graded by players? Does anyone actually care about stuff like this?
His answer was they would come through the locker room
with essentially posted notes. But you can check boxes and

(05:39):
stuff and ninety of his teammates throughout his entire career
looked at him and threw him in the track.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
Well that's the thing.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
So you you could have the players that are ranking,
that are filling taking the time to fill this out
are probably players that a have an issue with the organization.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
Or Mike McDaniels is saying give me an a plus.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
Yeah, Mikey Daniel's writing him out for the whole team.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
So I don't know what does this actually mean.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
Probably not much, But I do think the one that
the guys actually really care about are the treatment of families,
which is something that gets graded here. And there are
some teams that will provide full daycare if you have
kids in the NFL, and that's free. And then there
are some teams Arizona Cardinals who will make you, like
charge you for every meal you eat at the team cafeteria.
So it's a very different world in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
And I would say if I was the owner and
they started asking about daycare and food choices.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
Family doesn't come first. That's what Sammy says.

Speaker 4 (06:27):
A lot.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
How many touchdowns you catch last year? Oh, that's right,
A little bit more time on the drugs machine.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
In the NFL.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
Dude, I feel like my entire life should be taken
care of if I'm playing in the NFL. If you're good,
It's crazy to think anything else. These teams are making
so much money. There is a salary cap. There's literally
a designated amount that you are not allowed to spend over.
You know, there's extra money in these pockets. Start filling
up the freaking cafeteria with some cheerios. That's all I'm
asking for, all right, in honeynut cheios. I don't want

(06:54):
any of that bland again when the Cardinals don't really
win a whole lot.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
So maybe that's.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
Why maybe the Cardinals do have to go with the
one mindset change, all right?

Speaker 1 (07:03):
Coming up this hour, we have Kevin Acy at one thirty.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
We'll talk some padres ball with Tam. We'll get to
the Aztecs again here coming up in about ten minutes.
But it's time for the big three of our number
two where save me long rips through the top.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
Stories in the world of sports seven eight Smash your
lunch break is here.

Speaker 5 (07:18):
Ready to go back to the office and knock the
socks off your friends, I mean coworkers.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
Each time for the top stories, of the Day.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
Three three six one nine on the text line is
asking how do I bet spreads. I don't know what
you're talking about with that word bet. We do combinations
and uh. I use the Calshi app these.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
Days, Calshie Prize pigs.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
Which it's an investment app. It's not a underdog, it's
not a betting app. But there's best Yeah, you're trading.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
There's some other online sites that.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
Well, Calshie is one hundred percent legal and they spend
money with the station and that is what I've been using,
and I actually really enjoy.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
Cal She's great app. And it's not just sports.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
By the way, you could literally if there's a press
conference coming up later today with pretty much anyone, you
can bet or trade on what they're gonna say.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
It's pretty fun, man, DM Uncle Sammy.

Speaker 3 (08:05):
He gives some other sites as well that he can
get you some better cools.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
Sammy is maybe the creepiest thing that's ever left your mouth.

Speaker 1 (08:12):
How is that? How is that creepy?

Speaker 2 (08:13):
Sammy Claus is the way you said it, DM Uncle Sammy,
that is foul.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
Yeah, that is straight.

Speaker 4 (08:19):
You made it.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
You made it foul by talking about it.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
DM Uncle Sammy, those words just left your never mind.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
San Diego Patres one month away from opening day. Okay,
the NFL ranked all thirty lineups in Major League Baseball,
so the Potter's could check in at number ten. Number
one are the Dodgers. Number two are the Braves. Number
three are the Mets, Number four the Mariners, number five
or the Blue Jays. Six are the A's, the Oakland
Las Vegas As, seven, Chicago Cubs, eight Yankees, nine Phillies

(08:48):
ten Potteris. They ranked them on certain kinds of categories. Hit,
they got an A plus, patience, they got an F
power C minus, base running a D plus, durability a
B plus. I don't really agree with that death B minus.
And they ranked them as having two stars in the lineup.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
And it doesn't say who the two stars are, right,
it is not.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
It does not say that you start now.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
Okay, So the question is, for the rest of this hour,
we'll read your responses on the text line and YouTube.
Who are the two stars that ESPN is talking about?
Because I could hear a few different arguments. So seven
zero four to seven zero, start your message with team
ESPN is saying the Padres batting lineup has two stars
in it.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
Who are they Tatis? Obviously? Is it obvious? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (09:35):
If Tatis isn't a star, then I guess the Potters
have no stars on the team. Now, I'd argue Jackson
Merrill is a star over Fernando Tatis.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
See.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
If it was me, I would say there are three
stars in the Padres batting lineup, I would say Fernando
Tatis Junior.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
I would say Jackson Barrel. I would say many Machado.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
But if you're numbering that or you're taking that down
to two, I don't know who the two are.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
Well, Tatis has to be there. I think there's a
different converse station. Machado is the name. Machado is the
name that everyone in baseball knows, bounced around Baltimore Dodgers
than down in San Diego and Machado when he's on.
When Machado's on a heater, he's one of the best
players in baseball. The problem with Machado is every year,
I feel like we talk about there's weeks months during

(10:19):
the season where there are slumps.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
And he does every thing. Manny Machado hit a home
run today two.

Speaker 3 (10:24):
Oh nine career batting average in the postseason, Jackson Merrill.
If we're talking about franchise building stars, it's Tatis and
Meryl because Merril has the upside a affordable contract. His
rookie season was unbelievable last year, got off to that
great start first three weeks and then got injured. Kind
of was never the same. But Merrill is the key.

(10:45):
So I guess they have three stars. Boguard's not starting
more because if he plays, that's just the name Machado,
Tatis and Meryl. But if you ask me who's more
important for this team this year, I would say Meryl
is more important than to Machado because Merrill gives you
something that the pot it didn't have last year and
certainly could have got them over the hump.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
I would say it's probably probably ESPN is talking about
Machada and Tatis, but I think.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
There's an argument to you made them that might not
be the top two stars on this Padres offense.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
As of right now, we're replacing who Machado Machado, You
can't replace Tatis.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
I think you can.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
Man, the power isn't there anymore. Maybe it's back this year,
but I don't know.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
I'm but but when tatis is on he has an
ability and a level that no other guy on the
team can get.

Speaker 4 (11:31):
Sure.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
I would agree with that, and he is a superstar
right fielder at this point. But if he doesn't show
something big in his bath this year, I I don't
know what he is at this point. I really don't
all right, what's.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
Next, Sammy. The UFL just announced guideline. I saw this.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
So the UFL has new rules. They are looking to
go for college rules where you only need one foot
in to make a catch, not to and they all
start proposing that after touchdowns you can go for a
three point a three point try, so one two and
a three a three point try from the eight yard line?

Speaker 1 (12:06):
Why does this matter?

Speaker 3 (12:07):
Dean Blandino, who is the head official for the UFL,
kind of insinuate that the UFL and the NFL are
alike on rule changes, not saying it's gonna happen in
the NFL this year, but kind of insinuating maybe this
is a little bit of a trial run.

Speaker 1 (12:20):
What is your reaction to both of those rules?

Speaker 3 (12:22):
Would you like to see a three point at ten
from the eight yard line and or would you like
to see a go to college rules? Where you only
need one foot in for a catch.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
I'm fine with the one foot in for a catch,
I think in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
I don't love it, but I'm okay with it.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
I don't think you need to mess or incentivize more
kicking in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
I really don't.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
I also saw their toy in with adding a four
point line for a field goal if anything over sixty
yards is four points, and they're talking about punting less
within the fifty yard line like rules against it, so
you would have to kick field goals at that point.
I am not for incentivizing more kicking in the NFL.
I think that's a problem.

Speaker 1 (12:56):
I really do.

Speaker 2 (12:58):
I'm okay with the one foot can because like college
football does have some pretty damn exciting highlights when you
see dudes doing like a first baseman split almost to
get out of bounds, but it does take away a
little bit. I prefer the NFL to stay the same
as it is and get rid of the new kickoff rule.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
And get rid of the touch push.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
Other than that, I don't need any rule changes, but
I'm excited to see how it looks.

Speaker 1 (13:16):
Talking about the Birmingham Stallions, Sammy, this is cute for
the UFL. Oh my god, he said that it's a
big brother you.

Speaker 3 (13:24):
We don't need to see one foot in the NFL
because what have we talked about. I get what the
NFL is thinking. Offense is sexy. They want to sell it.
They want to sell touchdowns, they want to sell points,
they want to sell scoring. The ideal football game for
them is remember the Money Night game. If the Chiefs
beat the Ram or excuse me, the Rams beat the
Chiefs fifty four to fifty one a mini football years ago,

(13:46):
that is the ideal game the NFL wants for ratings.
The rules in the NFL already are so offensive heavy.
You cannot hit a guy coming over the middle anymore.
Anytime you you hit a guy who's trying to make
catch up the middle, it's almost always a penalty. There's
a lot of pass interference calls. You cannot spere a

(14:07):
guy anymore. You can't try to slap the ball out
from under the center, you can't spear them in the ground.
Everything favors the offense. The last thing the NFL needs
is now with receivers with the talent, they have one
foot to get down. Now, the entire field is open.
It's going to be impossible to play defense anymore. I
don't like this at all. I am completely against this.

(14:27):
The three point attempt from the eight yard line. Okay,
maybe I'm not saying I would probablyan No, I'm not
completely opposed to it.

Speaker 1 (14:37):
I'd be interesting to see it.

Speaker 3 (14:40):
But then so you're just devaluing field goals. I mean,
you're gonna bump up field goals. I don't get this.
I hate the one, the one foot down. I'm honestly
not really for the three point attempts. That one again,
I'm I guess I'd be more open to but I
just feel like college football is all offense. We can't
lose sight of the fact that we love defense NFL.

(15:00):
That can't be something that just completely goes away because
the NFL decides it wants keep boosting ratings, which is
going all offense.

Speaker 1 (15:07):
All right, I am going to hijack number three if
that's okay.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
Okay, because this Aaron Rodgers thing actually does have a
little bit of juice to it, I guess so. Adam
Schefter was asked about it this morning, and he said,
the belief around the league, and let's preface this by saying,
it's Aaron Rodgers and so there are never any absolutes
and things can change like that. But the belief around
the league is that he's supposed to give an answer
by mid March about his retirement, and the belief.

Speaker 1 (15:29):
Is that he would go back to the Steelers.

Speaker 2 (15:31):
But Vikings is the interesting one to me because I
guess he wanted to sign with the Vikings back before
last season, but the.

Speaker 1 (15:38):
Vikings didn't give any credence. Why do the Vikings won him.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
I don't think they didn't last year, at least because
JJ McCarthy was bad. But Adam Schefter is talking about it,
which makes me think that maybe in some circles they're.

Speaker 1 (15:49):
Talking about it again, Aaron Rodgers to.

Speaker 3 (15:50):
The Vikings again. I am not a JJ McCarthy fan
coming out of Michigan. I know he won a national championship.
That team was built on the running game and the
defense for over three hundred yards one time that entire season,
the final seven games of the year, he did not
have more than one passing touchdown.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
Well, that would be the reason to go after a
different quarterback.

Speaker 3 (16:09):
Right, But I would have never drafted him. You spent
all this collateral to get him. You let Sam Donald go,
who just won a super Bowl, and you at least
got to give him a look. You gotta give him
a second year to try to get his sea legs
on him, because, to be fair of ja J McCarthy,
he was hurt for a portion of last year, was
coming off to ACL the year before, he missed his
entire rookie season. To go, Even if you don't like

(16:31):
JAJ McCarty going to a forty two year old quarterback,
this is not a super Bowl contending team. This doesn't
make any sense to me whatsoever.

Speaker 2 (16:38):
But you went from Sam Donald, who I don't know
that any of us would put in any sort of
top five conversation in the NFL as a quarterback to
JJ McCarthy, and your team went from being a super
Bowl contender to nothing this last year to not even
being close to a playoff conversation?

Speaker 5 (16:54):
Right?

Speaker 3 (16:54):
But is Aaron Rodgers that much better than JAJ McCarty
at this point in his career.

Speaker 2 (16:58):
I would say he's a lot closer to Sam Donald
is to JJ McCarthy.

Speaker 1 (17:01):
What do you, I don't know. If I go that Finn, absolutely,
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (17:04):
I mean, Aaron Rodgers is fine, it's not like their
offense was good last year in Pittsburgh. It was better
than it was with Mason Rudolph and can't pick it,
and it would be far better than it was with J. J.
McCarthy in Minnesota. But again, you are so so then
you're just you're done with JJ McCarthy.

Speaker 1 (17:18):
I think that's that's why. Else are we hearing about
Kirk Cousins. Why are we hearing about Aaron Rodgers? I
think they are done?

Speaker 2 (17:23):
Why did they fire their GM the guy who fought
for JJ.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
In an elite quarterback class? Next year, Donte More, Leonoris Sellers,
arch Manning, Jade Maaba. Wouldn't she be more likely? Because
to your point, Aaron Rodgers will win you.

Speaker 2 (17:33):
Some games, and you have Justin Jefferson on your team,
and you have a good defense, so why would you
not try to win?

Speaker 1 (17:38):
Right now, here's the thing.

Speaker 3 (17:40):
If you suck for a year McCarthy's McCarthy's terrible, you're
picking Dontein Mordecks year, you're picking arch Manning. You have
a whole Minnesota might become the most exciting offense in
the league one year from today, having getting Aaron Rodgers
and having the Pittsburgh Steeler disease, where you win eight
nine games every year and yet you're not going to
be able to pick a top er quarterback next year
feels like a massive mistake to me. A five eight

(18:02):
says the NFL can't define what a catch is and
now they want to possibly make it one foot hard
pass fellas. I agree, That's exactly how I feel. I
feel like this is unneeded, and again, we can't just
outlaw defense in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (18:15):
IF five made also say JJ McCarthy's national championship team
was built around cheating.

Speaker 1 (18:19):
Yeah. Also, Fama all right.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
In San Diego Sports seven sixty, we got some mass
text basketball tickets for you. On the other side, Wall
also talk about that big win they had last night
over Utah State.

Speaker 1 (18:27):
That's next, San Diego Sports seven to sixty. You're listening
live on myheartradio app.

Speaker 2 (18:31):
If you would have asked me yesterday heading into the
Utah State game, I probably would have said, even with
a win tonight, the at large chances are tiny. They're
minuscule because of the two straight losses you took to
Grand Canyon in Colorado State. Today, I feel very differently,
not from looking around at any of the bracketology stuff,
I think they jump one spot in chempon one spot net. However,
you can see the future now, right. If San Diego

(18:52):
State's able to get a win this weekend against New Mexico,
that's another quad one win, and it's a quad one
road win against a team who's currently in the last
four a when you come to bracketology. So for San
Diego State, who was in the last four out, first
four out, excuse me coming into this week, there's a
real chance they could just flip flop with New Mexico
with a win this weekend.

Speaker 3 (19:12):
Right, and this goes back to the Aztecs have a
signature and win to point two. I'm not gonna sit
here and act like, oh they're they're one hundred percent
in the tournament right now or not everything has changed,
because right they're not. But at the very least, get
you go in the next three games and put in
the committee's hands and at least you can. But you know,
put your head on your pillow at night and going

(19:34):
we gave it our all the last two weeks of
the season, and you finish the right way heading into
the Mountain West Conference tournament. Let's just say they're out
of an at large bit, I don't think they necessarily
are a huge win over. You know, this weekend over
to Mexico is going to be a big deal for
them quad one win. As you mentioned, they're currently the
last team in I believe right now on a lot
of bracketologies. But even if it isn't and let's just

(19:57):
say this game ends up not mattering in the sense
that they have to go whin the Mount West Conference Tournament.
Last night, you felt like the Aztecs remembered who they
can be and who they are. I'm not trying to
be dramatic, but really they felt lost against Grand Canyon.
They felt lost against Colorado State. You and I were
talking off air and on air. It was kind of
hard to break down because it doesn't it didn't make
a lot of sense why this team was struggling to

(20:19):
put the ball in the hoop and kind of having
these long scoring droughts, because there's so much talent on
the floor at times with this team. There's a reason
why McGoo gwath was getting offered gazillions of dollars to
go to Kentucky and Michigan. Last night was a signature
win again, we'll see if that what ends up happening
over the next couple weeks. But even if you're not

(20:40):
at large bit, I think you feel much more confident
heading into the Mount West Conference tournament because of how
they played last night versus had they lost last night,
and I think you're still feeling a little lost about
what is our identity as a team.

Speaker 2 (20:51):
Winning my seventeen over Utah State is no small feat man,
and Utah State's a very very good team. In San
Diego State was that much better than them last night?
Utah State looked over mats, which for San Diego State
had to be a great feeling for the Aztecs, who
remember yesterday when we were talking about him, I made
the point that Brian Dutcher led teams almost never get
worse as the season goes on, and it felt like

(21:12):
this team was getting worse as the season was going on.
Yesterday flipped that on its head because yesterday was the
best forty minutes I've watched them play all year, and
it's not even close if I'm being honest, this was
the most complete game they've played all season long against
a high quality opponent.

Speaker 3 (21:26):
It's huge and to your point, We've seen them play
like that in Spurts, but that was the only game
this year that against elite level competition that you looked
at was like they put a real forty minutes together
that you look on tape and feel good about.

Speaker 1 (21:39):
From STORRT to finish.

Speaker 2 (21:40):
The only reason the game was close for the first
five or six minutes was because Utah State hit some
tough threes in the beginning of the game.

Speaker 1 (21:45):
But everything was contested.

Speaker 3 (21:47):
Nothing was easy for Utah State last night, and that's
what we're used to seeing with you know, Brian Dutcher
as one of the best defensive game plans in the
entire country.

Speaker 1 (21:54):
It was. It was a great win for the Aztecs
last night.

Speaker 2 (21:56):
Now to make it mean something, you need to go
do the same thing to New Mexico. And beating New
Mexs go twice in the same year is tough, especially
when you had the home game first. So for San
Diego State going on the road this weekend, it doesn't
get bigger than this. This is huge for them and
I can't wait for it. Man National TV game, San
Diego State on the Spotlight. It's gonna be huge this weekend.
New Mexico eleven o'clock on Saturday. Pregame gets going to ten.

(22:16):
Hope you will be here with us. All right, We're
gonna get Kevin Acy on the other side. Before we
do that, we got a pair of tickets for you
to go see San Diego State in their regular season
finale next Friday at Via has Arena. Call eight seven
seven seven six seven four seven sixty, Samy, what number you.

Speaker 1 (22:30):
Want to get these two? So call it number ten.

Speaker 2 (22:32):
Call it number ten. You're going to Va Hoas next
Friday night. It's San Diego Sports seven sixty. You're listening
live on iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
Hi, Kevin, How are you excellent?

Speaker 2 (22:41):
Did you make the trip out the good Year for
today's game?

Speaker 5 (22:44):
I did not. I stayed behind and I watched Jill
Musgrove pitch and then I got to work on some
other things Padres related, and Jeff Sanders went out to
good Year.

Speaker 2 (22:57):
Well you missed Mandy Machado's first home run of the
season this spring home.

Speaker 5 (23:01):
It's good to see him, you know, get hit, get connected.
Many looks terrible, But I say that mainly to point
out that many usually looks terrible in spring training, which
just is one of those examples of why you know
spring training is just a tricky time.

Speaker 2 (23:16):
Well, speaking of a tricky time, how did Joe Musgrove look?
You said you got to watch him pitch today.

Speaker 5 (23:21):
Pitching always looks better than hitting. Pitching it is really hard.
Joe looks good, I mean really, like at the beginning,
like oh, and then like two three pitches and he's
just hitting everywhere, at least in the first inning. Look,
he got a little tired. The guy didn't pitch all
last year, so the first inning was like super sharp,
and then the whole purpose of the thing was to

(23:44):
get into the third inning, and he actually ended up
completing twelve hours I'm sorry, nine outs facebook batters, and
so it had to be considered a success, especially since
afterward he said that he thinks that he'll at least
be scheduled to go on in the Cactus League start
his next outing. Now with Joe, they're sort of taking

(24:06):
it as it comes because he didn't pitch last year,
and they'll be cautious and if you know, he doesn't
feel fully up to it, then it's not a bad
thing necessari It's not like a setback if he doesn't
pitch next time. In an actual spring training game. But
the fact that that's the plan as of now is
good news.

Speaker 3 (24:22):
Kevin JP Sears kind of roughed up in an outing
last week. I'm not going to get into the whole
Matt Waldron Craig Sammon situation. But if Matt Waldron is
out for spring training and then JP Sears is not
looking great, are we to assume this is Walker Bueller's
job to lose as the fifth starter?

Speaker 1 (24:38):
Or am I wrong?

Speaker 5 (24:41):
I don't think that you're wrong, and I would have
almost said that before. I feel like it maybe was
Matt Waldron's to lose, but that them signing Walker Buehller was,
you know, a real sign of where they felt they
were at. There also signing here Mon Marquez and Griffin Canny,
who won't be ready for the start of the season.
But you know, based on what I have heard and

(25:04):
seen of his progress, like Walker Bueller.

Speaker 4 (25:08):
Is, yeah, yeah, i'd say he's the front runner at
this point.

Speaker 5 (25:12):
But again, I mean, got a month ago, he hasn't
pitched in a spring training game, he's faced hitters once.

Speaker 6 (25:19):
I don't think he had alive today, so but.

Speaker 5 (25:23):
You know, we'll see. But I think they're really hoping
that the early progress they've seen is is indicative of
what he could continue to do and that he could
be a starter for them at the beginning of the season.

Speaker 2 (25:38):
Kevin Acr Padres insider joining us today. Sammy said he
didn't want to get into the craigstam In Matt Waldron thing.
I kind of do because Kevin, You've been a part
of some weird press conferences. You've had some personalities over
the years between Chargers and then Padres, like Ron Fowler
press conferences or something special Philip Rivers press conferences. You
never reallynew what you were going to get. A j
Preller press conferences. He says a lot of words, but

(26:00):
don't really know if there's context in.

Speaker 1 (26:01):
Any of them.

Speaker 2 (26:02):
And then Craig Stalmmon, have you ever heard a manager
say in in his rear end before like Craig Stammon
said in his rear end And how'd you feel about
writing those words?

Speaker 4 (26:15):
Well, it was interesting.

Speaker 5 (26:17):
For about an hour, I'd been mulling, how was I
going to, you know, describe this because I found out
about it. I didn't know Craig was going to come
out and say it, and so I'm just like I'm
gonna say lower body, that doesn't affect his arm.

Speaker 4 (26:31):
Or that how do I let people how do I.

Speaker 5 (26:33):
Be discreet and not and but also let people know
this doesn't have to do with a ligament or something right,
And then Craig took care of that, But then he
also forced me to then say what it was, because
I felt like him saying an infection in the rear
end opened up like all sorts of possibilities that people
were going to be wanting about, and so then I
had to be specific about what it was. Let me

(26:56):
say that I am never going to complain about getting
information from a manager, especially after what all of us
on the beat went through the last two years, and
that Craig is doing a fantastic job of being as
candid as he can and handling all sorts of questions,
something he's never done before, and to do that deakly

(27:19):
without giving up too much information because you you are
the protector of your team uh and your players.

Speaker 4 (27:24):
I thought he's.

Speaker 5 (27:25):
Done a remarkable job.

Speaker 4 (27:27):
And I have no.

Speaker 5 (27:28):
Idea because for my sanity, I really try to not
pay attention. But if Craig is being ripped for this,
I I get it. But like, come on.

Speaker 3 (27:41):
Here.

Speaker 1 (27:42):
I think people just kind of think it's funny. That
was the choice of words.

Speaker 5 (27:46):
He was trying to be discreet and in the process
probably you know, right like this said something like it's
like he could have just said what it was or
or they could have said they could have figured out
how to say that, you know, Matt Walton had an infection.
This does not have to do with his arm or
anything that is long term, but he will be sidelined

(28:09):
for a couple of weeks. They could have said that,
and then it would have been put on me as
to whether I was going to just leave it at that,
and I probably would have, because you know, we don't
need to get in everybody's business.

Speaker 4 (28:19):
You know, we don't need to get up everybody behind literally, But.

Speaker 5 (28:23):
Like then the bottom line is we're all grown up.
This happens like people get hemorrhoid surgery.

Speaker 4 (28:30):
Okay, I mean, but yes, it was.

Speaker 5 (28:33):
Yes, I don't mean it all to take away from
your initial opening question there, It certainly was an all
timer to be standing there.

Speaker 4 (28:44):
And have the manager say an infection in his rear end.

Speaker 3 (28:48):
Well, shout out to you, Kevin ac As San Diego's
preeminent honesty broker keeping us all well informed out here.
I the WBC. So I'm curious of your thoughts. You're
like around these guys every day, you know, Machadogart's Tatis
on their way here in a couple of weeks to
go play. Do you think that the WBC helps players
before the season, like this, Is this a positive thing

(29:09):
that they're gonna be out of camp and give some
other guys opportunities? Or do the patres view it as
they just don't want them to get hurt?

Speaker 5 (29:16):
There it is they would they just don't want them
to get hurt. There's really no way to tell, right
if the player uses it constructively. You're in the pool
like stay the Dominican is, or you're in the pool
like where the United States is. Let's say then you
get into the quarterfinals, semi finals, finals, and you're playing
some really good competition, you're getting geeked up as a hitter.
I mean, there's debatable, like what the effect is for

(29:38):
pitchers to be ramped up this early, but you know
your Manna Machado's Andrew Bogot franch hotis junior, Like, yeah,
that could be a real positive. They just don't want
these guys getting hurt. That's really all it is, all.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
Right, keV, before we let you go here, who's standing out?
Who is the Gavin Sheets so far of this year?
Who is someone that we all need to be keeping
our own?

Speaker 5 (30:01):
There is no Gavin Sheets, but there wasn't a Gavin
Sheets at this point last year. I don't even think
he hit the first of his six home runs in
five days or whatever it was, right, But I will say,
Jose Miranda, I really like the outfielder Samad Taylor. I
think it's I think it's Bryce Johnson's job to lose

(30:21):
that that kind of last bench spot. But like there
are Jay's starn It can't remember, Uh, there's a there's
a kid is that. There's quite a few guys like
Samadd Taylor and the kid who's Jase who I can't
remember his last names that have been in the majors
have been really productive in the miners. There's a lot
of guys competing and they've looked good. But it's like

(30:44):
ad spring training and they're not facing Yoshinobo Yaba Moda.
I mean, like, I don't know what to make of it.
I'm not a scout or a coach. The Padres don't
know what to make of it. It's whatever. I think
that really your only spot that's open is that thirteenth spot.
It's not even like, you know, hey, maybe Gavin Chess
could be our DH or.

Speaker 4 (31:04):
Or something like that.

Speaker 5 (31:05):
I don't think we knew what Gavin Sheets was going
to become last year, but right now there's not a
Gavin Sheets. There's a bunch of guys where it's like
you're kind of rooting for them, like.

Speaker 6 (31:14):
Oh man, because it's cool, right, Like like these guys
that are busting their butt every day in spring training,
they're the guys like those spring training games are major.

Speaker 5 (31:24):
League Baseball games to them. They're trying to make the team.
And it's kind of cool if you allow yourself to
get into that, because I think the temptation is like
I'm covering like a team that's supposed to go to
the playoffs here, like I'm kind of worried about the
big guys, the guys that are you know, really gonna
matter day to day or start to start, or Mason
Miller and those type of guys. Jason Adam, what's his process?

(31:46):
But I think it's like it's really cool to watch
the Samad Taylors and and the Bryce Johnson's and and
you know, kind of monitor their chances of making the team.

Speaker 1 (31:56):
Anything new on ownership front before we get out of here.

Speaker 5 (31:59):
Yeah, other speed stuff, Like it's moving pretty quick. I mean,
it's it's a matter of time here before we have
a better timeline. Let's say that, like, it's a pretty
it's happening.

Speaker 1 (32:12):
Bids hitting the table yet or is that a week away?
Two weeks away?

Speaker 2 (32:15):
I'm sorry, are the bids hitting the table yet?

Speaker 6 (32:20):
There's a there's word. I mean, I can't say for sure,
but there's word.

Speaker 5 (32:24):
There's a it's listen. Regardless of whether bids have hit
the table or not, what I will tell you is
you could have a new owner by opening day, and
you probably will have a new owner by the end
of May.

Speaker 4 (32:41):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (32:41):
All right, keV, you got any insight on who you
would rather be?

Speaker 5 (32:47):
Someone with a lot of money, because that's what's best
for the fans and all of us who watch the Padres.
So they have a lot of money and they want
to invest it. Let's remember that anyone who buys this
team is going to be richer than and the Sidlers.

Speaker 4 (33:02):
And the current ownership group.

Speaker 5 (33:03):
That doesn't guarantee they're going to spend the money. But
that's that's that is something I think I have sensed
from people both inside the organization and out, that there
there will be someone who has a greater capability of
spending to a level that no one's going to spend
like the Dodgers. That's a ridiculous argument, but spending to

(33:25):
a level that you know could really help AJ Prowler.

Speaker 1 (33:28):
All right, well, we'll see.

Speaker 2 (33:29):
I will say this, Kevin dan Fried can can fly
fly really old planes, and he was actually he did
a stunt in the movie Dunkirk. I don't know if
you know about that, but he has a collection of
a bunch of like old warplanes.

Speaker 5 (33:42):
So he'd be a lot of fun. Because he also
has like ten billion dollars.

Speaker 1 (33:45):
Too, and a bunch of Toyota deailers, so that's I.

Speaker 5 (33:48):
Can't say that he has ten billion dollars in the bank,
supposedly that's his net worth.

Speaker 2 (33:51):
I'm kind of down for dan friedkin. I don't know
about you, but I like his name. I like the
fact that he's in movies. I like the fact that
he could probably do a flyover at his own stadium.

Speaker 1 (34:00):
All those things sound pretty cool to me.

Speaker 5 (34:03):
That would be amazing to have a character I don't
know that he is, but that would be That would
be amazing.

Speaker 2 (34:09):
And you could have a new like daily or every
week podcast called the Freaking Weekend.

Speaker 5 (34:16):
You are are? You never let me down?

Speaker 1 (34:18):
Do you? No? I'm always here to help keV. Don't
you worry about that.

Speaker 2 (34:21):
We'll talk to you next week. Kevin ACR. Padres Insider
will have him every week throughout the Padre season. Interesting
things from Kevin. There new ownership by opening day and
everyone else.

Speaker 3 (34:32):
Hear that sounds like reading between the tea leaves. They
have probably sold it to someone.

Speaker 2 (34:37):
Also, when Kevin goes like up in octave, he knows
something more than he's telling us.

Speaker 3 (34:41):
Yeah, he would uh in rounders, you would have spotted
his tail immediately.

Speaker 1 (34:47):
So bids hit the table, That's what I said.

Speaker 3 (34:49):
First off, one hundred percent of hit the table because
they met with Laco what was just three weeks ago,
a month ago?

Speaker 1 (34:54):
Yeah, they met with lacub I.

Speaker 2 (34:56):
I But again, like you could say one thing, but
bids hitting the table is a little bit more of
an open like we would have heard more.

Speaker 1 (35:04):
Dennis Lynn had an article this morning. I don't know
if everyone.

Speaker 2 (35:06):
Saw that that says he's expecting a couple of rounds
of bids.

Speaker 1 (35:10):
For the point, I'm sure.

Speaker 2 (35:12):
And more names have entered the chat by the way,
the SDFC owner has entered the chat. Well, I think
the four names that we know about right now, and
there's supposedly a couple more names that we don't know
about right now.

Speaker 3 (35:22):
So I mean, but if you met with lake Of
a month ago, you gotta think, remember they when all
that happened. In that article, there was a lot, like
Kevin just said on our show before opening day, it's
a real possibility. This is so if that's the time,
we're a month out so bids, you would think would
already you've already probably had a first round of bids,
and how you're starting to narrow it down into the

(35:44):
real serious offers.

Speaker 2 (35:45):
How bad do the Sidlers want to just get rid
of this thing? Well, goodness great.

Speaker 3 (35:49):
I mean, it's listen, it's it's again. John Sidler is
not Peter Siler. Peter Siler had a vision for this city.
John Siler can say whatever he once. He hasn't said
a lot with his act. He's showing he does not
want to be in the business of running a Major
League Baseball franchise.

Speaker 1 (36:04):
So I'm happy for them to sell to someone.

Speaker 2 (36:06):
Man, I thought we had Kevin for a second there.
I think he thought the interview was over. I think
he thought we were done and then just threw that
one at him.

Speaker 1 (36:13):
Just long asleep exactly.

Speaker 2 (36:15):
I was like, Oh, Joe Musgrove, how's he doing. Oh yeah, Kevin,
that's crazy, he said in his rear edge.

Speaker 3 (36:20):
That's nuts. Yeah, Kevin, ownership boom he is. He thought,
He's like, question samyar can't ask me the hard hitting questions.

Speaker 1 (36:26):
But we did. But we did.

Speaker 2 (36:27):
All right, we'll finish this thing up coming up next
in San Diego Sports seven sixty live on iHeart Radio app.
Things are happening when it comes to the ownership situation.
If you kind of mix what Kevin was telling us
with Dennis Lynn's article from this morning, the timetable is pushing, man,
the timetable is moving, and Kevin said, there's a potential
we see a new owner for the San Diego Padres
by opening day. We'll see if bids are hitting the

(36:48):
table as of right now, as we speak, potentially. I
always imagine it, by the way, Sammy, is like a
scene out of an eighties crime movie where they just
slide a piece of paper across the table, like Scarface.
That's how I like to think of it. But I
don't know if that's actually how it happens. It's probably
much more official than that. But I like to imagine
like Joe Lacup, Dan Friedkin, Jose Feliciano and everybody who's

(37:08):
throwing bids in for the padres, all just sitting around
a big table just sliding pieces of paper over.

Speaker 1 (37:14):
I don't know if that's actually how it works, but
I like to think of it working like that.

Speaker 3 (37:17):
If I was spending that much money on something, I
one hundred percent it would be sliding Hell yeah, I
think across the table.

Speaker 1 (37:24):
I'm not just saying that out loud.

Speaker 2 (37:26):
Never Also, from Dennis Lynn's article this morning, we're finding
out that the padres are going to sell for a
lot more than they're worth. So the sidlers are getting
this done at a good time, and there's no shortage
of buyers interested. Which you can think about that any
way you want to think about it. The one thing
that sticks out to me is the Padres still have
a little bit of debt that needs to be paid off.
Not that a Dan Friedkin who's worth ten billion dollars

(37:46):
would care about a couple hundred mil here or there.
But also major League Baseball's yes, it has juice right now,
and it's fun and people are talking about it more,
and the ab s system is great, and the pitch
count clock is great.

Speaker 1 (38:01):
There might not be a baseball season next year, but that's.

Speaker 3 (38:03):
That might be why you have so many interested buyers
because and if you're for both sides, the sidlers are going, wait,
we do get out. We want to get out because
we don't want to try to sell this thing with
a lockout. Even let's say you miss next season to
baseball and then the following year you sell the team,
you're still trying to kind of rebuild up baseball's value

(38:24):
that's really gained the last couple of years, especially with
younger fans, because missing a season is certainly gonna gonna
cause a hit in the amount of the popularity of
Major League Baseball. So the silers want to sell this
thing as fast as possible. And then if you're one
of the if you're freaking if you're like, whoever it
is the owner, SDFC has already kind of thrown his

(38:44):
name in there, kind of you buy something on the
on the kind of down low before you have the lockout,
knowing the market value is probably gonna be a little
bit depressed because the buyers are gonna go, well, I
don't want to pay top dollar because there might be
a lot out next year. So you have all these
interested buyers, but also with knowing the silers are trying

(39:05):
to sell this thing as fast as possible, the lockout
could be the best thing that ever happened to the
potres and that they're gonna get out from under this ownership.

Speaker 1 (39:11):
I would also argue, potentially.

Speaker 2 (39:13):
With a lockout looming, that maybe more teams might be
up for sale and this might just be the first one. Yeah,
And I don't know if that's going to be the case.
I'm just trying to read the tea leaves like everybody else.

Speaker 1 (39:21):
But we'll see.

Speaker 2 (39:22):
According to Kevin in a very high pitched voice, things
are moving when it comes to the ownership situation. If
you missed that interview, you can find it on the podcast.
SAMU will have it up in a little bit. Just
search the fletched zone on the iHeartRadio app, adds to
your presets and you can listen to the pod there.

Speaker 3 (39:36):
Always asks the presets. It's a nice little way out
of the show. Six to one nine want to text
in Sammy playing Mace and p Diddy songs on the radio.

Speaker 1 (39:46):
Sus and Michael Jackson today.

Speaker 3 (39:48):
Oh that's what you were saying. I was like, what it,
Mace do listen Music's music. I just want to throw
that out there for everybody.

Speaker 1 (39:58):
Had a boy Sammy by the way, to finish a
great Thursday show. Baby by the way, by the way,
we didn't.

Speaker 2 (40:03):
Tell everyone why Sammy had the worst night in the
history of mankind yesterday.

Speaker 1 (40:06):
His power went out for a little bit.

Speaker 3 (40:08):
So he had to watch that night screen the Acid
game on my phone through a hot spot. It was
it was hard to sit and talk to people, get
to know them on a deeper level. Couldn't just sit
there tune out and tapping at the TV.

Speaker 2 (40:21):
He was this close, this close everybody. It's having a
starting game of Monopoly with his family. Oh my god,
Oh my god.

Speaker 1 (40:27):
I would have run that.

Speaker 2 (40:29):
Wow wow, wow wow. No one has it tougher than
Sammy Long, let me tell you what. We'll see you tomorrow.
John Shaffer up next.

Betrayal Season 5

Betrayal Season 5

Saskia Inwood woke up one morning, knowing her life would never be the same. The night before, she learned the unimaginable – that the husband she knew in the light of day was a different person after dark. This season unpacks Saskia’s discovery of her husband’s secret life and her fight to bring him to justice. Along the way, we expose a crime that is just coming to light. This is also a story about the myth of the “perfect victim:” who gets believed, who gets doubted, and why. We follow Saskia as she works to reclaim her body, her voice, and her life.
